Such Associates …

As noted previously, I live in SC. And my state representative is none other than James Clyburn. Yes, that James Clyburn – the turncoat who stabbed the Clintons – both of them – repeatedly in the back. His traitorous behavior began shortly before the SC primary when he jumped on the “Bill Clinton is a racist” bandwagon for highlighting that Obama’s claims regarding the Iraq War were simply a “fairy tale.”

Clyburn, rather than getting the back of the president titled America’s first black president by none other than Toni Morrison, suggested he “chill out,” never ONCE acknowledging that what Bill Clinton said was TRUE!! And he just went down from there as the primary season continued, concluding with throwing his superdelegate support to Obama (now THERE was a surprise – it doesn’t take a genius to see that was where he was heading. His “neutral” stance was JUST as “neutral” as Donna Brazile’s, and we ALL know how THAT went…).

Clyburn’s support of Obama is considered quite the big deal since Clyburn is the Chair of the Black Caucus, the House Majority Whip, and is quite influential in the Congress. Hence what made his comments about Clinton all the worse, in my opinion (how DO the Clintons sleep at night with all the knives sticking out of their backs?!).

So why am I bringing up Jim Clyburn (besides the opportunity to say HE will never get my vote again, either)? Because our local paper, the Post and Courier, just had a VERY interesting story about him on Monday. Here’s the title, and this should give you a big ol’ clue: “Rep. Clyburn Draws Fire For Earmarks.”

Now, I will say that I often look at these pieces with a critical eye because FAR too often, Democrats have gotten more scrutiny on their budgetary requests than Republicans. But when I read it, I could see that maybe, just maybe, they have a point. The research was done by the Myrtle Beach Sun Times (and I’ll go ahead and spare you the suspense – Clyburn’s office would NOT return their calls on these matters).

All statistics below come from the above-referenced Post and Courier article. For starters, Clyburn had $38.8 million in earmarks budgeted, compared to the $45.5 million in earmarks of ALL other SC elected officials COMBINED.

But wait- it gets BETTER!!! Guess who were some of the beneficiaries of his budgetary largesse? Just guess! Did you guess CLOSE FAMILY MEMBERS??? If so, you WIN!! That’s right!! Here we go: Clyburn got $784,000 for the design and planning of the African American Museum in Charleston. And one of the lead architects WAS? His NEPHEW!!! But, of COURSE!!!! The same one for whom he had $145,000 set aside for a community center in 2005. Yep! This one is good, and another two-fer: Clyburn set aside $990,000 for a Wellness Center in 2003, and has appropriated $229,000 for this year.

Coincidentally (cough, choke), his daughter is the Marketing and Membership Director there! Next up, the South Sumter Resource Center. This year, it got $282,000. That is in addition to the $670,000 it has gotten in the past.

His sister-in-law is the Housing Coordinator for the Community Development Division. How CONVENIENT!!!!

Wowie zowie, no WONDER Citizens Against Government Waste once named him “Porker of the Month!” Know WHY he got that “distinction”? Because he earmarked $3 million, that is $3 MILLION, from MILITARY spending for a golf course named for him! Yes, he did. His “logic”? Military people would get good use of it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Isn’t that a RIOT?!?! Military people would be using the GOLF course so instead of appropriating the money for, oh, I dunno, BULLET PROOF VESTS or something, he puts it into a GOLF course named for him!!!! Holy freakin’ COW!!!

So, this is the man, the backstabbing turncoat, who is one of Obama’s BIG supporters!! Hmmm – seems like much of the other company Obama keeps to me.

Oh, one last thing about all of these earmarks. SC has one of the WORST educational systems in the COUNTRY. (Hey, don’t look at me – I grew up in NC when public schools were still really, really good!)

So, it makes PERFECT sense that money should be going to all of these family-related projects rather than toward the HORRIBLE educational system here. Right? Yeah. Sure. Right. So proud of my representative – not hardly. (OK, ok, I am sure these projects help some people OTHER than his immediate family, but really…)

Blitzer: When will Bill Clinton back Obama?
      Posted: 02:51 PM ET

      From CNN Anchor Wolf Blitzer

Blitzer: How active will Bill Clinton be on the trail for Obama?
WASHINGTON (CNN) – Bill and Hillary Clinton attended the memorial service for Tim Russert at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington on Thursday. That was the first time I have seen them since Senator Clinton dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Barack Obama. She was very enthusiastic that day. It dawned on me yesterday that we still haven’t heard the former President formally endorse Senator Obama. I am sure he will be on the Obama bandwagon openly and energetically fairly soon. But I wonder what’s taking so long. Then again, is it really all that long?

PLS PLS blog there –bill does not need to support this liar -asshole–waffles who blamed him for race card right before south carolina primary just to get black votes —

What the hell is wrong with you Obama supporters?! Is there some secret bible/koran that says Obama is god/allah and must become president at ANY cost? Exactly – and that SC was NOT punished was quite telling. ALl along the DNC wanted to see how Obama was going to play here. It was not at ALL surprising when the Obama people started the race-baiting with Bill prior to the primary. I was disgusted THEN by Clyburn and Obama, and could not BELIEVE what they were doing to our only two term Dem prez in 4 decades. What the HECK?!?!

  • WestPalm4Hillary

A handy dandy guide to Obama camp race card playing during the nomination, or, as I like to call it: Why I don’t trust or believe Obama is a sorry SOB who is NOT a post-racial candidate who will be unable to bring the Democratic party together, let alone the country:

    * Michelle Obama telling black people to WAKE UP
    * Obama stating he would increase the black vote by 30%
    * Jesse Jackson Jr. saying Hillary “Had no tears for Katrina” (despite the fact that Bill has done more for Katrina victims with his Katrina Relief Fund than Barack “I’m 1/4 black so black people should vote for me” Obama).
    * His campaign circulating a memo in South Carolina to the press with the express intention of taking innocuous Clinton statements and making them sound racial out of context
    * Trouncing out the Farakkkhan/Malcolm X reminiscent “THEY’RE trying to hoodwink, Okie-doke, Bamboozle YOU” speech when in front of black audiences.
    * His campaign blaming his losses in New Hampshire on the “Bradley Effect”
    * Throwing poor grandma under the bus as a “typical white person” who is oh so scared of black men.
    * Going to a racist church based on black liberation theology which is SOOOO cliche and for all the wannabe revolutionaries.
    * Going after Geraldine Ferraro for saying THE SAME THING Barack Obama had previously said, and which remains on his website to this day.
    * Writing all sorts of goodies about his inner struggles and distrust for whites in his narcissistic autobiographies (TWO by the time he’s 50? I mean, honestly. Get the man a mirror to admire himself), and revealing a deeply conflicted, identity confused man with daddy issues very reminiscent of George Dubya.
    * Father Pfleger, speaking in front of Obama’s “I can never disown my church but I’m going to do it when it starts causing a problem for my electability” first church of God Damn America saying HIllary was an “entitled white woman” mad about the upstart black guy.
    * Donna Brazille getting pissed when Hillary stated that Obama couldn’t get the blue collar vote and correcting her that he gets “blue collar blacks”…. and THEN, when Hillary changes “blue collar” in general to “blue collar whites,” she’s a RACIST.

    Anyone got any others?

    • WestPalm4Hillary

Think about it, though. This is all good, because most white folks aint NEVER gonna vote for a black candidate who engenders so much victimhood of blacks and blame of whites!

    • destardi

Don’t forget Obama’s twisting of Hillary’s comments on MLK and LBJ.

Don’t forget Obama’s twisting of Bill Clinton’s praise of Hillary Clinton, supposedly over Nelson Mandela.

Don’t forget this blatant racial comment by Sen Bill Perkins:
New York State Senator Bill Perkins used quite explicit racial stereotyping in a speech aimed at discouraging his constituents from voting for Clinton by saying, Harlem “is not Bill Clinton’s backyard or his plantation. Underscore, plantation.”

Don’t forget Obama’s use of “typical white person”.

Don’t forget the Koskids trying to accuse Hillary of darkening Obama’s skin on Youtube
      http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/did_clinton_darken_obamas_skin.html

I’m sure there’s more, but that’s my contribution to the list.

    • Dave_Not_For_Obama

You know what’s so frick’ed up about Obambi, the way he PLAYS the blacks for HIS own gain. If Obambi gets ANY criticism he cries RACISM and his followers jump in line with the same crap. caveat emptor

In spite of the zealousness the black community has shown to elect someone like them , Obama shows that this is just another demographic of voters he needs but does not wish to represent.

There is no American above his reproach..how presidential!

        • Hope Floats

That was a good link. Thank you for sharing. It’s not that I wanted to hear Obama-bashing from black Americans. I wanted to hear what of Obama’s speech addressed their needs outside of coded references and political pandering. The establishment picked him, because he seemed removed from America’s racial legacy. It seems like he got the worst of both races to me, though. Obama is cold. As we say in the South, “butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth.” He’s colder than Rezko’s tenement buildings.

I live near Detroit and I see the same thing with people like Kwame Kilpatrick and John Conyers, they always talk about helping folks but the only folks they ever help are their relatives, helping them get taxpayer money to line their pockets. No matter how crooked these people are their community keeps re-electing them, they are all just bloodsuckers.

      • Urban Hillbilly

Sounds like an extension of city government – school boards and city councils.

        • Rob in Chicago

Absolutely!! I hope (starting to really hate using that word) that this country is ready for “where’s mine ?” (I forgot the latin translation of the Chicago City Motto) Chicago politics writ LARGE, and on a plundering national scale. Don’t get me wrong, I really admire some of what Daley has accomplished, and his chutzpah in ripping up the runways at the downtown airstrip, Meigs Field, in the middle of the night was politically brilliant, even if you loved the airport. Daley understands that a certain amount of autocracy is necessary for a city to operate. Unless you have the majority of aldermen in your pocket and beholdin’ to you, nothing will ever get done. I also understand that until the U.S. Attorney can drain the “combine” swamp, nothing will change. Bringing this level of dictatorship to the national level is a different story. At the local level, things often need to get done quickly, and centralizing power in a strong mayor may work. At a national level, the stakes are so much greater, and greater deliberation and consideration of allavailable options is essential. We have just witnessed almost 8 years of Daley style politics in Washington, and it looks like the Obama camp wants to install the real deal.

Maxine Waters should be the Chair of the Black Caucus. She is one of the few who had the vaginal fortitude to call for the impeachment of Bush.

Tubbs (and Boxer, by the way) were the ones who challenged Ohio’s votes for Bush in 2004 GE. They as well as Clinton would be fully behind Waters.

Yes and funny you should mention the need for schools in South Carolina! Remember it was in SC where Mr. Obama mentioned that VERY THING…about the kids he had seen learning in schools that were built in the pleistocene era.

So it would seem that this money that Clyborn has been bilking off of you and I would have been better spent.

Mr. Clyborn did not route that money into any funds for the poor, black communities, he is hurried to mention everytime a microphone comes near him, for education, for food or shelters for the homeless….NO…NO…NO…he built a museum, he built a golf course, a community center…and everytime his OWN FAMILY benefited from it.

He needs to be voted out of office.

Don’t click on any of those power2obama links, unless you want to see a painfully bad forgery. It’s either freepers trying to be clever or some kind of satire.

  • Urban Hillbilly

The morning of the South Carolina primary, Clyburn was on MSNBC accusing the Clinton campaign of being racist. Mika and David Shuster said they did not see it and asked Clyburn to help them understand what the Clinton campaign had said or done that was racist. Clyburn could not think of one thing.

Finally, an outraged Joe Scarborough said the Clinton campaign was racist because they accused Obama of being “inexperienced”. Clyburn readily agreed, then Scarborough and Clyburn fumbled toward explaining how this was racist. Their explanation was that it inferred something racist.

Clyburn lost all crediblity as an honorable man right then and there. And I hope Karma exists.

Off topic. Everyone knows Obama voted at least 130 times “present” rather than yes or no as a legislator in Illinois. But there was one bill he thought important enough to vote YES on. It was a bill he co-sponsored:
Bill 750 (note the date) in 2001, creating the “Halal Food Act”. Providing for state inspection to insure that all food labeled Halal is prepared according to Islamic law so that each animal is slaughtered by a Muslim after an Islamic prayer is said.

I think it’s kind of ironic that in many ways this election is about change. It’s about the change that all of us that are paying attention are not conscious of and sick of.

This is a democracy and WE voted all these people into office. Talk about job security!

Tell me, how many of you when you go into vote just vote for the people that you recognize?

How much homework do we really do on these folks that have so much authority and control to use our hard earned tax dollars?

This is about change – for now we are awake! We know now all the corruption, ear marks, favors and lies these people do as a matter of politics.

Well, if I were a member of any political office, I would take heed. The people are awake now!

The likes of Rep. Clyburn, Sen. Kerry should be forewarned. This election is about CHANGE!

You will be held accountable when it’s time to vote for your re-election!

We do hold the power folks – keep records of these fools and when the time comes, select someone else!

That is the beauty of a democracy!

    • uhh somehow this notion that I am qualified to be president is uhh uhh ridiculous

      Very well said.
It IS time for Change. Change these crooks into honest, hardworking Americans with your votes!!!!!!!!

    • ginaswo still says no to Uhhbama

maybe we can suggest to the great DC suggestion box they call Congress on November 4th that they need a dept of accountants, not Arthur Anderson Accountants, actual accountants, CPAs “low level” pencil pushers we all know and love, real working Americans, THEY and THEY ALONE could have the check authority to sign over contracts and take bids

CONGRESS should be able to draft the legislation but have ZERO control over how it is awarded or to appoint specific bids and direct the dough..

you know like the GAO with some actual POWER and CONTROL…

    • It’s Not Me

They all act so cocky and so sure of themselves that I’m beginning to think they have figured out a way to steal the election. There is a reason the Democrats didn’t want election reform…now I think I know why.

They can’t all think we’re stupid enough to vote for them, can they? I’m not voting for Dick Durbin. He’s responsible for talking BO into running for Prez. Durbin is the idiot who arranged BO’s speech at the 2004 Dem Convention. HE WILL NEVER GET MY VOTE AGAIN.

      • BJinChicago

I’m not voting for Durbin again either. Guess what, we’re not the only two to feel that way.

        • http://home.comcast.net/~vincep312 Vince P

BJ: I’m in Chicago too. I’m voting for the unknown doctor that is running against Durbin.

  • SONIA

DAILYKOS idiots really have a JEDI EFFECT ON THEM —
THIS IS ONE OF THIER DIARIES

Barack Obama saves the Federal Government $80m and John McCain loses $80m

Barack Obama rejects federal aid of $80,000,000 in his first major move as a presidential candidate. And what does John McCain do: he squanders away $80,000,000 on what will more than likely be a futile attempt to become President. John McCain, why not join Barack Obama in saving the federal treasury this much needed cash. Together they save the government $160,000,000: just do the math. $80,000,000 + $80,000,000 = $160,000,000.

    ***SUGGESTION ****

Why did not obama just donate 270 million to some charity that he raised –oh he could not b/c he was spending 5 times more than hillary just to beat her —-

    • uhh somehow this notion that I am qualified to be president is uhh uhh ridiculous

He lost to her in reality, even after his spending wasting millions that could have benefited many.

    • WestPalm4Hillary

And remember, he only “beat” her because of the fuzzy maths.

If you broke down the amount of money he spent PER VOTE in comparison to Hillary, who ended up with more votes, he’s not made good investments.

      Hillary did more with less.

    KHARMA

Politico has a story on Obama winning votes but losing the election to McCain.

I hope so. That would be the best Kharma I’ve seen.

Hillary won the People’s Votes and BO had his thugs go in the caucuses and use threats, force, theft, and fraud to win the caucus delegates.

Everybody I know is voting for McCain. It’s better to have 4 years of McCain with a Democratic Congress to control him, than 4 years of a corrupt punk trainee.

Then, in 2012 we get a real president with experience, knowledge, maturity, and who won the People’s Votes.

I think it is time for people to realize it isn’t over until it’s over. Fact is the nominee isn’t officially chosen until Denver/August. Sure Barack Obama has a large enough amoutn of delegates to win the nomination – but only if he includes the super delegates and he did include them in his tally. Fact again is the super delegates votes don’t count until the convention in August in Denver.

So until Denver in August at the Convention – Hillary has 18 million popular votes and Barack Obama still does not have enough delegates officially to win the nomination.

It is still up in the air until the Convention. And 18 million people voted for Hillary – more than Obama by far. You cannot exclude that fact – now or forever.

  • sleepy

Would your feelings about Clyburn’s nepotism be any different if he had supported Clinton?

Are there similar porkers who supported Clinton/

Why would anyone be surprised that a congressman is crooked. I’m certainly not.

    • eurogirl70

      Here is the thing Sleepy.

When minorities set up a narrative in which only whites are racist, back-stabing hypocrites, then yes it is an issue.

See getting screwed is getting screwed, regardless of your own color or the color of the person screwing you over. But, if you are like Rep. Clyburn and you want to hold whites to one level of scrutiny, even if merely for political gain, then members of your own AA community should be able to expect more from you. They should be able to expect that you will pass legislation and send monies back home that will be used for schools, and community programs that benefit a wide swath of the AA community and not just a select few; like only your extended family!!

This is where the naiveté of some members of the AA community come into play. All racial and ethnic groups want to see people like themselves in positions of power, in order to make a difference and hopely change the political dynamic for the better. The belief being that if someone looks like you, and comes from the same background as you, they will have your best interest at heart and do right by you. By now there have been enough crocked AA politicians, just like white politicians, that any AA voting for Obama thinking that he is going to be better is simply fooling themselves. Look at Kwame Fitzpatrick in Detroit or Deval Patrick in Massachuttes, to name only two. The only color that really matters is green; who has it and who doesn’t. Those of us that don’t are in the same boat and these false SOB’s are merely playing us for fools!!

      • eurogirl70

        Fine.

But nothing what you said relates to my point, which was to question the diarist’s motives in attacking Clyburn’s nepotism.

I stand by my statement that Clyburn’s nepotism was attacked (as it should be) solely because he supported Obama (as it shouldn’t be).

speaking of Clyburn… Blacks are the one race that has not yet evolved. I know that the culture of blacks in this country is slightly more advanced, but considering the drugs, the rap, the gangs, the crime, the sexual immorality, they have only evolved a little higher because they have been living with White people for many years now. If left alone, if uneducated like their African bretheren, there would be no difference.

Mr.Clyburn has a new problem. There’s an investigation of Alphonso Jackson at HUD. It seems that Alphonso and Clyburn have a mutual friend, William Hairston, a S.C. contractor who got HUD work. Unfortunately for Clyburn, Hairston says that Clyburn recommended him to Alphonso at HUD. Mr. Clyburn says he didn’t, that he only recommended that HUD use more minority contractors, not naming anyone in particular. Meanwhile Mr. Hairston got $485K over 18 months from HUD. And you, Rev., will be delighted to know that the three of them play golf together.
