Even if her remarks feel a day late and a dollar short to some of us, it still takes courage to speak out and offer any criticism. It is not viewed constructively but through the prism of narcissism, which means anything less than adulation is not ok. I wish we could get past this. There is no one in that office who would perform perfectly and giving an open hearing to one’s detractors could prove helpful.

Unfortunately the attitude of “Party before country” has become so prevalent on both sides, it is the American people who are losing out. I agree that Paglia’s comments, no matter how angry she is, are really meant as a bracer to wake the Administration and slap them back into line. She has not given up on them.

I still do not understand the cognitive dissonance that led her to ignore all the warning signs last year.

But, for her, it is still about the “Team” – Can the “Team” still win, can they get re-elected, will they ruin Obama’s chances of getting re-elected…? can they beat the other “Team.”

It isn’t about what’s good for the people. Just what’s good for the “Team.” She’s getting closer, but it’s attitudes like hers that are still part of the problem.

Some things are right and some things are wrong. NO matter what party you belong to. You should see a real mix of votes, if representatives were really thinking of the PEOPLE and not the PARTY. And in this case I am talking about the Democrats (mostly).

NO one, except the partisan hacks would agree that it is a good idea to vote in massive spending bills at all, much less without reading them, without vetting them. NO one in their right mind would agree to be pushed into a phony crisis by a one time junior colleague with questionable work habits. No elected representative worth the ink on the ballot would set aside his or her statesmanship and act as a lackey for a Pelosi.

Once elected, you represent the people. ALL of them, regardless of party. You represent the Country. You have NO right to make partisan votes.

While at this time I HOPE the Republicans hold the line against these massive spending debacles – because it is the right thing to do – in general, party line votes are a bad thing. And yet that is all we have been seeing, as any watcher of C-Span can tell you, for decades. It’s gotten worse, culminating in the horrific “Stimulus” bill.

As long as we see votes going down party lines, we don’t need to be paying those guys their salaries, and they don’t need to bother to go to the office. Let them stay home and watch Soap Operas, we can fill in their votes by Party, YES, or NO. Maybe then we would get to find out who is making these decisions.

Or, we could fix things by enacting legislations forbidding all Party affiliations once elected. No caucus meetings, no fundraisers (except within a narrow window around election time), no partisan designation whatsoever.

It won’t happen – but anyone who votes with an eye on whether or not they will get elected does not deserve to stay in office. You do the right thing for the right reasons – and if it means you don’t get re-elected, so be it.

Our system of checks and balances depends on these people. And they are betraying us on a daily basis. Maybe some of them, like Paglia, will wake up in time.
