Barack’s Bullshit Healthcare Bamboozlement

What garbage!!! Oh, it was smooth. It had some soaring rhetoric. But we’ve seen this tap dance before. The most egregious is his utter nonsense about “working with Republicans.” Sorry, Barry, but if you meant what you said then you would not have convened a Democrats only meeting at the White House yesterday.

If you meant what you said you would not have allowed your Administration officials to go out and savage Americans who dared speak up at town halls.

If you meant what you said you would have invited John McCain to the White House last week or last month to make a genuine push for bipartisan reform. But you did not. You sat on your hands as the various monster plans were exposed for the chicanery they contained.

And then you promise to pay for this mess by producing gold out of cow dung. You promise to pay for this program but fail to make clear how. Oh, you are going to clean up “waste, fraud and abuse?” Hell, you couldn’t even properly vet the radical past of Van Jones or the tax cheating of Timmy Geithner. Clean up your own damn act first before you dare tell us that you are going to magically clean up “waste, fraud and abuse.” Look in the mirror!

All you did tonight was repackage the vacuous promises you made on the campaign trail. And we know how you honor your promises and commitments. All we have to do is ask Jeremiah Wright and Van Jones.

Good for Joe Wilson who yelled, “You lie!”

Watch out because Michelle is really p*ssed as she shook her head back and forth with the outburst!

    I’m scared ……………….

    CAROL HAKA

Good for Joe Wilson. This should tell everyone that at last the pixie dust has cleared. Now reality can be reestablished. I honestly did not have the stamina to listen.

      • lark

Then only one person spoke the truth, that was Joe Wilson.

        • baldwin

I have to agree with the President on this one. His plan will not cover illegals. By the time the plan kicks in (in 2013) they will all be legal.

          • Docelder

You know that isn’t that far off from being right. There may be no such thing as borders in North America in the future.

          • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

He thinks that he’ll get amnesty next year if he gets health care through. I’ve got news for him…not only will he not get his plan but his pandering to Mexicans for amnesty/votes is going to be all out war.

            • tek

Martha: I’m stocking up on popcorn for that battle. These people are so obtuse. They have no idea the reaction that push is going to encounter.

Social engineering. It’s social engineering–trading citizenship for votes,

Unconstitutional as hell. If he condones it and pushes for it, he should be impeached.

          • Jack

            Very funny.

The only way the speech would have worked is if at the end he said, “and pursuant to what I have said, tomorrow you will get my 500 page bill detailing my vision.”

The reason he needs to “work with republicans”, Mr. Johnson, because there was never going to be a public portion, it was always hot air to keep his base hopey and unbalanced.

            • elizabethrc

Obama’s talks about bipartisanship are easy to disprove. Republicans have not been invited to the WH to talk about health care since April. When Republicans sent a letter to him asking for such a meeting, the letter they got back was basically “we have the health care issue well in hand”. That’s a butt out message if I ever heard one.
Obama thinks that people don’t remember. Not only do we remember, but each one of these lies or half truths or obfuscations, or whatever you want to call them, adds to our determination to expose him for what he is…a charlatan.

          • elizabethrc

You’re right! Notice that he now says there are 30 million uninsured. Before he’d been saying 47million. They’ve obviously tried to remove the illegals they were trying to get covered! How duplicitous this little man is.
Lies covered with brown sugar still have the taste of lies.
Expect an uptick in his approval ratings, but as Frank Luntz said last night, in a couple of weeks they’ll be down again. This is just an example of the short attention span we Americans have and of how much we are impressed by a Hollywood moment. I thought his speech was embarrassing for him and was quite corny at times. The lowering of the voice for effect was something straight out of a high school dramatics class! For those of us who are not ‘on his payroll’ or one of his insider friends, none of what happened last night cuts it.

            • owllwoman

Or straight out of Rev. Wrights Church. Perhaps he was listening after all.

          • morris1030

The plan may not cover illegals, but when an illegal shows up in the Emergency Room, they are treated, and we are paying for this. Hence Wilson’s outburst.

Wilson is probably right, but interrupting POTUS isn’t a great thing to do. Presidents speak to theose that voted for them and those that didn’t and the whole world watches. This was not a smart thing for the GOP to shoulder.

There are many forums for calling out the president and/or his policies, but while he is in the middle of a speech it’s er….not a winner.

        • TeakWoodKite

Why is it people named Joe Wilson call it what it is?

          A BIG FAT &*(_

          • J_Gocht

            It’s Addison Graves Wilson Sr.

        • FranSC

If Michelle looked p*ssed, Nancy Pelosi looked thunder struck! I would hate to be Joe Wilson – he may be water-boarded by this time tomorrow.

          • maryann

No waterboarding is torture, instead they will inject him with toxic saline and jab a huge needle in his head to suck his brains out like they do to infants in late term abortions, THAT is acceptable.

    • graywolf

But later Wilson pussied out and apologized.
      Typical Republican weakling.

      • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

He may have apologized but the truth he spoke will bounce around in cyberspace forever!

        • FranSC

Yes, Joe Wilson’s outburst was history-making since no one has ever had the guts to do anything like this before, regardless of the consequences.

George Stephanopolus just said on ‘Nightline’, “That probably did more to unite democrats than anything so far.” Well……lets hope not! While I want what is best for the people of this country, this arrogant radical needs to be brought down 30 or 40 notches. And so does Nancy Pelosi and Rham Emanuel.

          • beebop

If denying the truth of Rep Wilson’s statement is what it takes to unite the Democrats then they are in much worse shape than any of us would have thought.

I am impressed that having been disparaged and marginalized and lied about as non-contributors and the “party of ‘no,’” Wilson found his voice. I for one am grateful. How many of us were doing the same thing in our living rooms? Joe Wilson was our voice in Washington at that moment.

      • Murray

According to this morning’s AOL, Joe Wilson TRIED to apologize, but ended up speaking with Rahm Emmanuel.

Then, “thousands of dollars unexpectedly appeared” in the campaign to oppose him in the upcoming election.

        • FranSC

Murray, this is what Rahm Emmanuel and Nancy Pelosi have been doing since 2004 at least – recruiting democrats to run against republicans, and in many cases, well-entrenched republicans. This is how the democratic majority in both the house and senate was achieved. Democrats and republicans trying to defeat the other is fundamental to our democracy. But, these campaigns have been run Emmanuel’s Chicago way.

There has been an endless supply of money that was raised by a venture capitalist firm in Nancy Pelosi’s CA congressional district. In addition, this is the same firm that Pelosi introduced Barack 0bama to before 2007 after these two played a huge role in helping recruit 0bama to run for president. This firm, Hummer Winblad, was the mastermind, NOT Barack 0bama, behind the $750 Million dollars raised on 0′s behalf.

One example of the dirty work Pelosi and Emmanuel have done to accomplish the take-over by the dems is Minnesota’s 6th District Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann during her 2008 re-election campaign. Bachmann herself said Pelosi came to her district and told her constituents, “Michele Bachmann is a disgrace to the congress.” Pelosi then presented Bachmann’s male opponent with a $100,000 check for his campaign. Thankfully, Bachmann overcame Pelosi’s dirty tricks, narrowly winning re-election.

As a life-long democrat, I was and am incensed by this kind of dirty politics. So much so that I am now an independent.

      • tek

graywolf: No, it’s a tactic. Of course you have to apologize, but he said what he wanted to say. He’ll be a hero to people who oppose this healthcare and oppose amnesty.

    • Prime Obot

How funny. The rest of the world — including the Republican world — considers Wilson’s outburst a shocking breach of Congressional decorum and deeply disrespectful of the office of the presidency. But here, it’s great. Okay.

Just so you all know, Obama’s speech did great, just as I predicted:

      http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

See those numbers? Those are the numbers that will pass health care legislation this fall, and that, along with a recovering economy, will ensure Obama’s reelection. Enjoy.

      • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

CNN? Yeah, whatever keeps you from peeing or to use Obama’s word -wee-wee – ing your pants

        aol disagrees.

        Obama=epic fail

        Wilson=the truth

        Here’s a taste from aol

Did Obama’s speech change your mind?

        No 80% Yes 20%

        http://news.aol.com/obama-health-care-speech/66037

        • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte
        • Prime Obot

Yeah, and of the 20% whose mind was changed, how many do you think changed to our side (by which I mean, the side of health care sanity)? If reactions to most presidential addresses of this type hold (they are usually popular, and Obama’s especially are), I’d guess 3 out of 4. Which would account for the instant burst of 15% more approval of his health care legislation in a few hours.

I wouldn’t read nearly so much into such numbers; as I said, it’s a fairly common approval burst. But he really did move the needle, and believe me, everyone in Washington D.C. knows it. Health care is going to pass this fall, and it is going to be extremely popular once it does. Millions and millions of people are going to suddenly realize that they and their loved ones can get affordable health insurance. People in the lower middle class — you know, all those Hillary voters in Pennsylvania — are suddenly going to realize that they and their families have guaranteed insurance and health care. These plans will have rolled out across the country in the year or two that Obama is running for reelection.

And you guys think he isn’t good politically. LOL. News flash: he is the best any of us will see in our lifetimes. And he is going to dramatically change this country for the better.

              • tzada

If his speech was so great and all is right with your obama world, then why are you here? What is the hurry to rahm thru something that won’t take effect until 2013? The porkulous was a resonding flop as is the master and mistress behind the death care. You see the window of the destruction of America closing, and I will do my part to slam it shut and nail it closed. Count on it bucko.

                • Prime Obot

I’m here because I find this site entertaining. We have to get this bill passed because it will never pass in an Congressional election year (’10) or a presidential cycle (’11-’12). And you can assert that the stimulus was a resounding flop, but in the real world, economies all over the Earth are now at or near recovery, in large part (according to most economists) because of the U.S. stimulus and similar government activities all over the world.

As for your eagerness to “nail shut” the window of America’s doom, I have no response for that.

                  • Onofre’s arm

Cite one noted economist that states without reservation that the stimulus is responsible for a recovery. And you’ll have to provide irrefutable evidence that there actually IS a recovery. Do you understand that only a small percentage of the porkulus funds have been injected into the economy? Are you aware that similar policies were practiced by Roosevelt, and that the result was an EXTENSION of the great depression? Ever heard the expression “Throwing good money after bad”?

Obama claiming credit for halting the economic collapse is only evidence of his monumental arrogance. He might just as well have taken credit for the sun rising this morning.

The man/child is quite simply a hyperinflated, blame shifting, Narcissistic, lying noxious gasbag. This is obvious to all but the most dense and brainwashed co-dependents.

          • Karma

You have pretty low standards if you think Obama is the best.

Personally, I don’t like politicians that can’t speak without a teleprompter, lie continuously, steal other people’s work product and claim credit for it, or steal from citizens while using their plight as the excuse for the earmark.

And as far as changing the country for the better. Do you mean like he changed Chicago? Letting all those kids freeze in Chicago winters for one of his pay to play buddies? Geez…and that discount on his house couldn’t possibly be tainted with those shivering children could it? Naw…that was other money that Rezko used I am sure.

            http://wthrockmorton.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/kids-shivering-in-cold.jpg

Or when his wife got a raise at her non-profit hospital for bumping the poor folks out of emergency rooms? No tainted cash there either? Naw…I am sure it was out of the remodeling budget that boosted her take home pay.

Sorry your standards are so low….but clearly it helps keep the kool aid hangover away for another day.

Hmmm. Not a good night for the man who famously said about the American People: “I can make them believe anything I want them to believe”.

            This leaves only three posssibilities:

            1. he did not really want them to believe it, or

            2. his get up and go got up and went, or

            3. the statement is a just a touch delusional

If you look at it statistically, the statement was true with 7% of the people and not true with 92%. The reason is people are waking up to the fact that what you see is not what you get.

Apparently, Prime Obot, you don’t know how to read. Clearly stated is the fact that the majority of speech watchers last night were Democrats. Of course, under that circumstance, it would be idiotic to not think that his approvals would go up. And then again, this IS a CNN poll.
Luntz expects an uptick for a short period of a few weeks but then also expect his approval numbers to dive again.
Do you want ice in that koolaid?

        • wbboei

I think that is true. A blip and then another dive. Like in a world war II pig boat: dive, dive, dive, etc.

As previously noted, it was a strategic mistake of the first magnitude to make this his signature issue, rather than jobs.

          • jwrjr

After all, unemployed people are not known for their ability to afford overpriced health insurance (the only type sold by the insurance companies).

No, it just means that most Americans have already tuned out because of the grotesqueries of Obama’s administration. When you know every word out of his mouth is a LIE, why watch . . .

        My prediction: EPIC FAIL!

        • wbboei

Correct. The issue is, has always been, trust. And it does get back to that birth certificate issue. Why will he not trust us with the truth. Why does he spend 2 million dollars to fight a disclosure which should be provided voluntarily? And if you take a real close look at his Chicago roots and continuing ties you find good and sufficient cause to distrust him. Trust is a two way street.

      • Dan

The audience for the speech appears to be more Democratic than the U.S. population as a whole. Because of this, the results may favor Obama simply because more Democrats than Republicans tune into the speech. The poll surveyed the opinions of people who watched Wednesday night’s speech, and does not reflect the views of all Americans.

      • candymarl

Screw decorum. The House of Commons is about as raucous a place as you’ll ever see. Yet the Brits are known for their manners. I don’t want a polite Congress. I want one that listens to the people.

George Washington was burned in effigy. His supporters wanted the people involved arrested. What was Washington’s reply? A flat out NO. Because, unlike some our more contemporary leaders, Washington understood that democracy thrives on dissent. He also understood that it’s okay for dissent to be impolite. Or even downright rude.

Oh – and our primary counted 100%, even though we were early, too – location, location, location…

          • FranSC

RRRAmy, you are being kind about Clyburn. He did much more than just stab the Clintons in the back. While there was race-baiting beginning in Iowa, SC was the first time I saw it.

Clyburn couldn’t wait to get to the first microphone after Bill Clinton used the ‘fairy tale’ analogy to describe B0′s characterization of his war votes – NOT to describe his campaign (although that would not have been too far off-base.) After Clyburn’s race-baiting and threats to Bill, Donna Brazile rushed to the microphones to do the same. The 0bama race team was in full swing.

The SC primary was a week-long celebration of MLK’s birthday with one of the national debates ALSO secured by Clyburn. He controlled the tickets as well. SC and Clyburn were a huge, carefully thought out beginning for B0′s ultimate success.

Spent yesterday there and I’m still stunned what I saw.

Lots of hate and lies spewed towards Palin….no probelms with that…..but Obama deserves respect?

      Geez…lol

    • Jim S

The MSM and progressive blogs are all atwitter about Joe Wilson’s calling Øbama a liar. No-one’s talking about Øbama and his speech. Say what you will about Rove, but if calling Øbama a liar was his idea, it was a stroke of genius.

As for the speech, it was typical Øbama lots of words, nothing to back him up, reminds you of the guy that walks into a crowded bar and orders drinks for everybody and sneaks out, leaving others to pay the bill.

LIAR! fits Øbama to a tee. Thanks Joe! (He apologized and that costs him points, but he gets a passing grade just for saying aloud what most of us think to ourselves.)

    • wbboei

Mary Ellen I have a good friend on another blog who was with Patton in world war ii, landed at Omaha beach and made it all the way to Berlin. He came into contact with many members of the German Army, and if I recall correctly, a few Waffen SS. One of the things that struck him was their continuing loyalty to Hitler, despite what he had done to their nation.

Now I am not saying there is a moral equivalent here. There is no credible proof of that. I am merely suggesting that when young impressionable people get caught up in a messiah who is an orator, and promises them the sun moon and stars the effect can be hypnotic.

In that case, it requires strong will power, like quitting smoking or weaning oneself off dangerous drugs to pull away. The addiction is centered in the pleasure centers of the human brain. And when peer group pressure also conspires to seduce the individual, it is hard to bring them back to a sense of reality.

      • b mathews

      CAROL HAKA

    • wbboei

Helen, I am with you. If I could believe him I would watch because the issue is important to the nation.

The seeds of failure were sewn in the first hundred days of this administration. I said so at the time.

The biggest issue facing this administation was not health care but jobs.

If he had made jobs rather than health care his signature issue, the wind would be at his back.

There are a number of reasons he failed to do so.

First, they misjudged the recession. If they had listened to Wall Street they would have known.

Second, they assumed a recovery would bring jobs. They failed to anticipate a jobless recovery.

Third, they did not want to confront Pelosi and Reid who preferred pork to job creation.

Fourth, they saw back room deals as a way to make whoopie with Republican health care donors.

As a result, he took the country and his administation down the wrong path.

The public reaction to this was also foreseeable.

But when the press fails to vet a candidate, he operates in a gravity free zone, and it is only when he presumes to govern that reality pushes back.

  • http://me414.wordpress.com/ Mary Ellen (Nunly)

Looks like I did not miss anything but an added 45 mins of hot air.
This money Bret Baier gave out some trivia on Obama’s speeches.

Since taking over office Obama has given 29 speeches specifically on Health Care Reform.

Since taking over office Obama has given 121 speeches that referenced Health Care reform

Since taking over office Obama has give a total of 264 speeches.

Obama has been in office 232 days. It looks like Obama has given more than one speech a day.

Ouch how many presidents have gone that far.

Tonight my family and I invited a young woman for dinner and watched Glee. This gal is from New Orleans and moved here for a new start. She waits tables at a place we frequent and we got to talkin’.She shared that all she did was work and wasn’t even making her bills. She missed her family. She got treated to a big ‘ole meal , put her feet up and told us she’s heading home to her people.Today was her day off and she’d been homesick but she told us we felt like family. To have him intrude on something that felt real and connected I wouldn’t dream of it. She told us she knew we wouldn’t put that speech on.

Try going over to another left site called:

      http://www.democraticunderground.com

You might enjoy what you read there better. They aren’t exactly happy campers tonight.

I don’t think Obama hit a home run. Most comments left at D. U. are a little defensive and the commenters are not exactly elated … certainly not cocky.

so I think the entire speech was a waste of time — and may prove to hurt him in the end.

There was little of substance…and at times, it seemed like he was just trying to hawk a bill — any bill – so that he can say he won.

Doesn’t look like a game-changer to me. Although he could get a small bounce, i doubt that it will last. most “informed” folks aren’t going to be swayed — and non-news-junkies probably aren’t going to understand or even have watched this speech.

  • hokma

Aside from the specifics you pretty much captured the reaction by most Americans.

I am so tired of Obama’s pompous pontifications and his disingenuous rhetoric.

Obama said that the government will not force anyone into a public option. He’s right because it will be the employers who will force people into the so-called public option which will result in the collapse of all private health insurance in favor of socialized medicine.

Obama never once met with Republicans to hear their ideas so his claim about working together with the GOP is a lie.

Obama did lie about giving health care coverage to illegal aliens. He continously referred to 45 million uninsured that deserved coverage. Among those 45 million there are about 9 million who are illegal aliens. So either the President lied or is ignorant about who makes up those 45 million and why.

The one thing that needed to get done was never mentioned and that is forcing states to drop restrictions on allowing health insurance companies from other states used by their citizens. The Federal government can override states because of interstate commerce reasons.

    • Benjamin

It’s a fact that an amendment was submitted by Republicans in committee to exclude illegals, and it was voted down on a straight party line. It’s also a fact that HR 3200 provides several billion dollars for “interpreters” to be used at emergency rooms.

      • leslie

I work in a hospital. It is a mandate that we provide interpreters for patients, and their families. There are many reasons interpreters are needed and serving illegal immigrants is not one of them. Have you ever tried to communicate with a deaf person? How ’bout a foreign-speaking grandparent of an injured dependent? Foreign speaking people are not illegals.
When my daughter was in a serious accident while traveling in Germany, the only way for her to communicate was through an interpreter.
Stop sounding so prejudice and think about what actually happens when people need hospital care. There are enough actual reasons to oppose this “health care plan”. Let’s not lose sight of what is and is not needed. Please.

        • Clara

I will add that requiring and providing interpreters is not new. Hospitals have used telephone services for several years for anyone not proficient in English.

        • FrenchNail

Yes translating services are necessary in emergency care situations, but such are expensive and much could be avoid if illegals were not overloading the system.

Let’s not forget that just by being in America, they are BREAKING AMERICAN LAW. That’s not prejudice, it’s a fact.

        • Benjamin

My comment was not a statement about illegal immigrants one way or the other. I’m saying that Obama and the Democrats are lying when they say they won’t be covered by this bill.

        • lorac

But we do serve illegals – they come in to the emergency room, and if they need further treatment, they’re sent up to a room.

Doctor’s offices generally won’t treat them (because how will they pay?), but the hospital always does, and then they’re out the money. You can grab a spanish speaking hospital employee to drop what s/he’s doing in order to come help translate, or the family may have some English speaking younger members, or else turn to the translation phone.

      • lark

Illegals cannot be prevented from purchasing something that is for sale. What they may exclude could be on giving them a subsidy or credits in their tax returns. Illegals would laugh at that.

        • kgirl1028

stupid question but why don’t we force the mexican government to pay us for their people are here illegally’s health care. I bet if we stuck it to them enough they would enforce the boarders themselves. Also force companies and busnesses that hire illegals make them pay more money towards government health programs that they end up using.

          • NoBamaNoWay

the american job situation is really the problem; employers want to pay crap wages that americans won’t work for, then they go and hire illegals.

            • kgirl1028

yes but if you make the illegals just as expensive they will be less likely to use them. while they ma not hav to pay the workers more, if they forced them to pay more in taxes maybe to the state if they have them employed to cover things like the free medical care and education we give their kids then maybe they won’t hire them. It’s either that or we pass this mess and they are going to tax the crap out of us. Why do i want to pay money for a regular soda tax when i can just get a business who has known illegals working for them to pay hefty tax for hiring them and i mean make it hurt. If they can tax the hell out of AIG’s bounuses or set executive pay. Why give buisnesses who hire illegals and help contribute to another strain on our economy who are helping to contribute to these problems a free pass.

    • sowsear

I’m sure that the 10M illegal aliens will be legal as soon as Congress can get to Immigration Reform. BO covers some of his lies with omisions.

      • TeakWoodKite

See Katie Coruic’s interview with BO. sowsear is correct as BO said it himself.

    • guido8

“…the so-called public option which will result in the collapse of all private health insurance”
      LOL
Why, they can’t compete with a lousy government-run program? Remember, ‘the guvermint can’t do anything right!’
Remember the government-run Post Office is always having problems while UPS and Federal Express are doing just fine, -think about the bloddsuckers insurance companies as FedEx!!

      • Benjamin

Private companies will NOT be able to compete with a public option that doesn’t need to make a profit. Plus, Obama said that it will be law that they will have to cover pre-existing conditions, and so forth. This will drive up costs and premiums. Employers will dump people onto the public option when it becomes cheaper to just pay the tax to the government. HR 3200 also provides that after 3 years, private companies can sign up no new customers. That pretty much legislates them out of business – eventually – and that’s what they want. Single-payer is – and always has been – the goal, and the public option is the way to get there.

        • palf88

People dumped into a public option, instead of not being able to find coverage. That surely sounds horrible…

          • hokma

Wrong. Every employer will dump their employees into the public option to save money. Yes, it would be horrible which is why only a minority want it.

      • hokma

Do you know what “not-for-profit” public option means? It means that NO ONE can compete based on price. But based on service, anything run by the government, other than the military fails. Period. Have a problem with your public option health insurance? Let’s see how easily you can speak to someone.

  • Benjamin

The most outrageous thing he said was about the public option. He said it would be a non-profit option that could compete with private insurance as long as it was NOT subsidized by the government. What the HELL is he talking about? How can you have a non-profit public option that is not subsidized by government funds? Ridiculous.

    • hokma

He also said that the government would not force anyone into the public option. He’s right. Employers will be the ones forcing people into the public option.

I counted close to a dozen lies throughout Obama’s speech. His entire administration has been a series of smoke-and-mirrors.

      • NoBamaNoWay

you two sound very concerned that people might like the government option better than the current insurance system.

    • fif

      He’s talking about co-ops there.

      • Benjamin

No, he was talking about the public option.

    • felizarte

a public option will be non-profit, by definition. But did he promise a no-loss/no deicit public option?

      • Benjamin

He said that it would be a non-profit public option that is NOT subsidized by the government. Of course a public option will be subsidized. It was an outrageous statement.

    • eleana

Maybe not the most outrageous, but is his Marxism showing? ..last paragraph of speech “We did not come to fear the future. “We came here to shape it.” To quote Karl Marx “The philosphers have only interpreted the world, in various ways, the point is to change it.
      Any similarity?

I don’t get it… Are you angry at Obama for hiring Van Jones or for cutting him loose? If you’re pissed about one, how can you be pissed about the other?

I heard he is still working with the Administration under the radar. I’m pissed that he hired him and I’m pissed he’s still there. He’s a crazy nut radical.

Your question is typical, entitled one. Van Jones has thrown the entire white race under the bus with no remorse or care. That you aren’t ashamed speaks volumes about you, buster. • Diana L. C.

The hiring of Van Jones in the first place was such an egregious act of pointing the finger at the general American public that full-on crazed attack mode is appropriate here. I was totally surprised it didn’t come sooner.

    • http://www.lesstalkmoreactivism.blogspot.com whoframedrudy

I’m pissed that Obama put an avowed Communist in the upper echelon of power. I’m dismayed that he did not anticipate the reaction. I’m not surprised that he threw the guy under the bus.

But getting rid of the guy he should never have appointed in the first place is not a plus.

Case in point: Pat Buchanan says his favorite Democrat is Dennis Kucinich. He agrees with Kucinich on absolutely nothing — except anti-war — but he respects that Kuchinich stands by his far left convictions.

    • TeakWoodKite

Hey UBM where ya been hiding?

BO did not “cut him loose”. He should not have hired him in the first place, which goes to Judgment and he did not fire him, which goes to character.

      He is lacking in both.

you know we could have it all wrong. Van Jones is a good looking man. Valerie Jarret did hire him, not Obama . Michelle and Valerie just might have wanted him around for eye candy for Queen Michelle and her 20 some odd ladies in waiting. Barack might have been totally clueless. When a man looks like that who cares aobut his politics.

Larry: Garbage is a good word for it but a tad euphemistic–I’d call it unadulterated trash.

The question I want answered is who wrote this steaming pile of cattle flop. What person(s) were responsible for this overflowing crock of odoriferous manure. Who let the herd out?

This was such a stupid, unnecessary, superfluous speech that I’m stunned even That One would agree to even doing it. His need for adoration must know no bounds.

    • Clara

Fred, I read somewhere today that Obama wrote his own draft over the weekend at Camp David. He sent 10-12 handwritten pages to his speechwriters for “tweaking”. So blame this pile of dung on The One.

Garbage in, garbage out, as they say.

Where were the specifics? Cutting waste will cover this gargantuan program? Please. The nitty-gritty is in the details–God, the Devil, whatever. And I haven’t seen any clean up on the fraudulant banks that are sucking the economy dry.

Stop with the choir singing. Until this man and Congress can talk specifics, no one is buying. Why? Because Obama and the Dem controlled Congress have lost the public trust. This is the Big Lie with a pretty bow on it. But in the final analysis? It’s still the Big Lie.

Larry called it: just more BS bamboozling.

    • beebop

Other than specifics, facts and honesty, one more thing was missing from the 0′boring lecture: any recognition that we have the largest collection of medical institutions whose break throughs have served mankind. He really doesn’t think anything of contributions made by the medical profession. No discussion of how much suffering has been eliminated by the medical profession here in this country. He is a real bad piece of work. If any part of him is proud of this country, he keeps it really well hidden.

  • Helen with a T.

I am really sorry to read the above comments in terms of the thoughtlessly expressed disrespect. I think it is reprehensible that a congressman shouted out the word liar instead of remaining quiet and listen to the speech. I did not vote for the president (first time in my life not to vote Democratic). Nonetheless, I very much want to see health and insurance reform go through. I am on Medicare so I am not affected with the problems that private insurance cause. I do pay $96 per month for Medicare and $230 per month for medigap insurance. Now I will wait to see what the outcome is but for tonight I feel some hope in Obama for the very first time.

    • Donna Brazile

      Helen baby:

You keep that hope cause OBush has never fought for anything in his life. Obama ain’t my daddy and I’m tired of him speaking down to the American people. I think it’s funny he’s going to call out others on their lies when he’s the biggest LIAR of them all. If you paid attention, you’d see it for yourself. But, hey, don’t let us take your joy.

      • wbboei

Donna–I have read some of some of the 2000 complaints which were filed for voter fraud and intimidation in the caucus states during the 2008 primary. They were meticulously recorded by Dr. Lynette Long in case you are interested. They were filed by Hillary supporters and in some cases by neutral observers (Pacific John). According to my information, those complaints were sent to your office by Hillary’s counsel and you did not investigate them or report them out. Can you tell me different? I also understand that during that same time frame you met with Karl Rove on more that one occasion and worked jointly on a strategy to defeat Hillary. Is there any truth to that Donna? The source was City Edition. Just curious.

    • lark

first of all the man is a pathological liar, so the liar exploitative was needed and it is admirable that someone has the guts to call him out for what he is.

Sedond, you don’t seem to understand one thing about what is happening. This is all about chaos and how to take control of our country and the people in it. When you see Charlie Rangel in the middle standing up applauding proudly in the middle of the whole group of Democrat representatives you know this is all about chaos and taking control of the people who make this country what it is.

It is obvious to me that the poor performance of the President in this speech to Congress demonstrates that they are not only unconcerned about the chaos that this health care bill will bring to the country but that he and all who are with him are pursuing relentlessly.

The problem is that the losses that will ensue from the creation and production of this Health Care bill will add to trillions and millions of jobs losses and great amount of suffering. We are in our way to complete devastation of our industries and service sector economy. The end is approaching fast and the President is glad he is presiding over it.

    • Katmoon

Well, he could have not called how we felt right wing lies..considering most of the people angry at the town hall meetings, were seniors, possibly ex-dems, likely independents. Remember he is a person, not a monarch. He got what was long overdue.

OMG Helen. I have Medicare. O said Medicare reform (read cutbacks in payments to Drs and hospitals) will be a major source for funding this reform. That means one thing for us—medicare will be paying less for our health care. We will be paying more. Our supplementary insurance will be more expensive because tonight we learned THERE WILL BE NO CAP ON INSURANCE COMPANY PREMIUMS AND THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC OPTION TO FORCE MORE COMPETITIVENESS.

    • Peggy Sue

Helen, I would like to see “real” health reform, too. But I simply have no confidence that President Obama and this particular Congress can or will deliver.

You ask us to respect the POTUS. How about this Administration respecting the American people and tell the truth. Just for once. Do you honesty believe that the economy has turned the corner or that green shoots are sprouting up everywhere? Do you really believe that we are safer with feet on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan? Do you really believe that Ben Bernake [who the President just renamed to head the Fed] is working in our interest? Or any of the continued policy decisions that are so like the last administration, none of which are in the American people’s interest?

Why the disrespect? Because many, many people no longer trust the government. That’s not simply disrespectful but dangerous.

But it is what it is. Being polite isn’t going to convince our representatives to change their headlong course into absolute disaster.

And that’s why the comments are what they are.

Btw, I’m a recovering Democrat. But before that? I’m an American.

      • Don

“a recovering democrat”??? What is that? Unlike AA, here it almost sounds like a democrat getting well. Think I know what you mean but made me stop a think for a moment. I was a registered democrat from 1964 through May 31, 2008 and I can assure everyone that I will not recover; I never again will automatically vote a straight party ticket and certainly will never again donate to the DNC or democratic congressional committees, etc.; maybe an individual democrat here and there but that also may be questionable seeing how they can so easily vote in favor of a stimulus bill that they did not read or try ramming through a health care bill that most people (per the polls) are against.

    • Jillie

if this crap goes through, expect to pay more and receive less…you just don’t get it. someone has to PAY for this.

    • fif

If you knew what you were talking about, you’d know that he has already cut big deals with the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries–and then he demonizes them in his speeches so he can look good to his base. He has capitulated on almost every promised issues: the public option, repealing the conscience clause, insurance premium caps. He stole Hillary’s idea (that he blasted her for last year) re: mandates (but no caps in premiums, so pay up!) & McCain’s idea for tax credits (that he blasted him for last year). It’s more double-talk so he can slap his name on something–anything–and claim triumph.

      • lorac

The final bill will only cover the little field mice causing a problem in Nancy Pelosi’s district, but Obama will claim a huge victory, and all the bots will dance, so thankful they can still live a life removed from reality.

      http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/29988909/sick_and_wrong

      • Peggy Sue

A devastating article, Karma. This about sums it up:

“All that’s left of health care reform is a collection of piece-of-shit, weakling proposals that are preposterously expensive and contain almost nothing meaningful — and that set of proposals, meanwhile, is being negotiated down even further by the endlessly negating Group of Six. It is a fight to the finish now between Really Bad and Even Worse. And it’s virtually guaranteed to sour the public on reform efforts for years to come.

“They’ll pass some weak, mediocre plan that breaks the bank and even in the best analysis leaves 37 million people uninsured,” says Mokhiber, one of the single-payer activists arrested by Baucus. “It’s going to give universal health care a bad name.”‘”

And this is why I’m a “recovering Democrat.” But that doesn’t make me a Republican. Because they’re just as bad.

        • Karma

I agree it is a devastating article. Taibbi tracked the horror show better than any other article I’ve read. It will stand almost as a time capsule for what happened and how real solutions were tossed immediately.

          And same here…recovering Democrat.

At least Republicans like Larry let us know there are lots of Reps disgusted with that side too.

      • wbboei

        Tabbi is an idiot. Idiot.

Only an idiot does not connect the dots.

Tabbi writes about the evils of Goldman Sachs.

        Yet Tabbi supports Obama.

And that makes Tabbi an idiot.

    • Tammy

Um, Helen, one of the ways that Obama plans to pay for health care is to CUT MEDICARE.

Did you miss that part, dear?

Of course, he only wants to cut it a teeny teeny bit, like, oh, a HALF A TRILLION.

      Wake up or die.
Obama doesn’t give a shit about you.

    • steel magnolia

Obama wants to pattern us after England and have healthcare akin to theirs. We should also have Congressional (Parliamentary) meetings like theirs with people standing up and yelling out things and shouting at each other, too. Why not that, as well?? Have you ever seen their polite little governmental get togethers they have across the pond? Don’t think Obama could handle it. Maybe it’s time our Congressional reps stopped being so politically PC and just started brawling.

    • http://www.lesstalkmoreactivism.blogspot.com whoframedrudy

Helen, you’re not concerned about the Medicare cuts?

When Hillary was driving the health care debate, ‘runaway costs’ meant uninsured people showing up in emergency rooms with advanced diseases.

Obama started this thing about ‘runaway costs’ coming from the elderly. Right there, he undid all the progress Hillary made in building support for universal health care.

Complete lives? I think Obama comes from the Twilight Zone. I honestly would not be surprised if he tried to put the elderly on reservations.

  • AdrianS

Points of interest regarding Obama’s speech:

    1. If that’s the best he has, the Obamacare “reform” plan is dead.

    2. Obama has, no doubt, been practicing his lying skills. Those who know the truth and have read the various drafts of health care bills know that Obama is lying or at the very least obfuscating.

    3. When Obama began to speak about malpractice, I and many in the audience were expecting Obama’s “new” ideas; I was expecting him to say that he would now consider tort reform to curb excessive waste in malpractice suits. But, during a lengthy pause, which I am sure he rehearsed, he mumbled and then said he would work for “safety features” for doctors in their practices. What a FOOL! We know that lawyers have contributed massive amounts of money to his campaigning and Obama is protecting them instead of protecting the public; the voters. So much for his sincerity and “heart-touching” Teddy moments. For Obama this issue had to be the lose-lose moment.

    4. Why did Hillary Clinton, Barbara Feinstein and others stand up when Obama criticized the “wasteful” spending on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars? These people voted for the spending on several occasions. The hypocrisy of it was very telling.

    5. This one is as odd as they come. Obama said his door was open for those who wished to come to him to negotiate. If this is anything like his promise to be transparent, forget it. He’s lying through his teeth. This is the guy who has blocked any access to his birth certificate and other relevant information on his qualifications to be president. And, on several occasions has had to be sued using the Freedom of Information Act to pry information from him. And, Obama has then the gall to say he serves up the information voluntarily. Lies. Nothing but lies.

    6. Obama also said he would not sign a bill that added one singe dime to taxes or the deficit. This is wordplay because he would add millions of dimes to the deficit and taxes.

    7. Also, Obama mentioned the historical passage of Medicate and stated a) that there were areas where the government could save by enforcing some kind of efficiency. What I say is why hasn’t he started already; and b) Medicare is more of a subsidy than a wholesale government takeover of an entire system. We don’t need another AmTrak or Post Office with billions of dollars in losses. (see GROVER NORQUIST: We Don’t Need Another Post Office
    http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2009/09/09/grover-norquist-obama-health-care-817970110/).

    8. After saying that the conservatives were using deplorable tactics in the healthcare debate, including scare tactics: Obama himself, when he said “if we don’t do anything”, began to try to scare with a string of lies and threats on what would happen if we did nothing.

Obama’s speech was a dodging of the main issues, lying. If you want to read about what Obama and his ultimate plans are, consider reading this article:

The Blogger Who Nailed Van Jones.
http://www.aim.org/aim-column/the-blogger-who-nailed-van-jones/. Van Jones, much like Obama, has an inherently malignant view of what our govenment should be – a socialist government.

Obama is NOT fooling anyone. If this is the best Obama has to offer, Obama is lost and the Obamacare “reform” is dead.

    • Ferd Berfle

      4. Why did Hillary Clinton, Barbara Feinstein and others stand up when Obama criticized the “wasteful” spending on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars? These people voted for the spending on several occasions. The hypocrisy of it was very telling.

It was very telling that you used HRC, first, as an example.

The others have no reason to do so, but HRC did since she works for That One, as repulsive as that sounds, but is in keeping with precedent (Powell under Shrub, for example). HRC is a real patriot from a family of patriots. She is working for us through this administration. I’m glad she’s there and you would be, too, if you *really* cared at all about this country as she is the only adult in his cabinet and the only one with both her eye on the ball and our interests at heart. From the tone of your remarks, you sound as though you’d rather have someone like John Kerry or some other lackey in her position so you could bray a bit louder. It speaks volumes about you.

Nice try, neoconbot, but I will call out not only the obamabots with the derision they so deserve but the bushbots like you, as well.

What is wrong with all of you? I follow No Quarter every day since the election — I’m an ardent Hillary supporter — but you’ve gone to far and lost all objectivity. Tonight’s speech was not about President Obama — or Barry as you disrespectfully like to call him — it was about HEALTH CARE REFORM — – which we all know is necessary NOW. All President Obama did tonight is what he is supposed to do – act like a leader. A genuine, civil debate about reform is needed, and the man stood up tonight and tried to begin it. I for one, who did not vote for Obama (I wrote in Hillary’s name here in California where she won by 10% — that can never be taken away from her), respected him immensely tonight for having the courage to say what needed to be said – that no matter how you feel health care should be delivered in this country, who should be covered, who should pay for it, etc., he called out the liars and the scare tactics, which is inexcusable and an embarassment to our country. I am really, really disappointed to see my No Quarters website simply rehashing the same old bullshit.

    • Diana L. C.

But as much as I want health care reform, I do not want this type of reform. Some of us are worried that if this passes, we will never really get the reform that is necessary.

This man and his shoulder brush off of Hillary, his 99 problems and a b#%&h aint one deserves no respect. He is a brand developed by the commissars of the DNC. I can not think of him as my president, never will.

We’ve had long conversations about health care reform on this website, so if you come her every day, you should know that. And you should be able to see that BO’s speeches are all the same, so none of us expected any thing amazing now.

      You said this:

A genuine, civil debate about reform is needed, and the man stood up tonight and tried to begin it.

Why didn’t you expect that of him before he sent out Pelosi to call Americans Nazis? Why didn’t you expect that before he alluded to “silly season”? A genuine leader would have opened the debate long ago by actually knowing what he was going to propose in the first place, by actually knowing the details of it and being able to back them up, and by not sending out the Congressional lackeys first to take the heat.

As was clear from the “sillies,” the “astro-turfers,” the “mobs” at the town hall meetings, they had actually read the monstrous proposal more than had the people trying to defend it.

Some leader he is. As I said, he is just a supposedly smooth-talking front man for the DNC. He has no clothes.

    • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

That’s because he only gave us the same old BS to discuss. He was anything but a leader. He insulted, never really spoke to the people, and then yapped over and over about bipartisanship?

    • DaddysDarlin

When is Obama supposed to start leading? When is it OK to lie to the American people time and time again, without so much as a whimper from the citizens of this country?
When we do speak up we are called a fringe group of disgruntled voters. Bullshit!
When do you think Obama will have the health care debates covered by C-Span like he promised? When?
We are tired of waiting, tired of Obama period, and you expect us to keep our mouths shut and go with the flow? WTF?
I still have my right to free speech, just like everyone here, and including Mr. Wilson who called Obama a liar because Obama was lying. Simple as that, we need to start calling Obama on his unkept promises, on his lies, or he will think he can just continue to do it.
I will raise my voice each and every time this man lies or fails to follow through on his promises, every American should. If we don’t work we don’t get paid, enough vacations, enough speeches, get to work already and work for the American people not against them.
It still wont change the fact that Obama is a socialist, and some of his good friends on Capitol Hill communists!
I suppose you think Van Jones was the only one right?

    • fif

Your lack of understanding regarding the many Obama failed promises and lies is obvious. Have you read anything about his back door deals with big pharma and the insurance industry at the beginning of all this? He has dropped every major provision of the original “reform,” and it’s so watered down and indecipherable at this point, it will inevitably deliver poor care AND escalate costs. Do your research before you come here scolding people who are informed.

    • Dawn

This site is re-hashing? Please Obama has spewed the same crap about health care that he’s been trying to feed us for months. No details, no real plan, just his same old bullshit. This guy has an ego problem. Apparently, he can’t go a day without hearing applause. Where’s the leadership? And yes that might mean actually working with Repubs to get things done. More than ego, he’s got a credibility problem.

    • beebop

If you can look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that there is enough waste in Medicare and Medicaid to fund this misbegotten overhaul without adding “ten cents” to the deficit and that it will actually come in at $ 900 Billion, my suggestion is that you run out FIRST THING to your personal care physician tomorrow morning and schedule a very comprehensive battery of tests. Something has happened to your ability to reason. Let’s hope it’s not too late for effective treatment and that you can be saved. :)

    • lorac

We need details, and details that are TRUE. Haven’t you learned that with Obama, you have to ignore the words (written by the 26-year old, Hillary cut-out grabbing kid), and wait to see the action. These speeches mean nothing to me. Heck, he’s not even involved in the process, and doesn’t even know what’s going on. Why should I listen to him?

When there is a bill – ONE bill, a final bill, that is simple and clear – if it is a good bill, then I’ll pay attention. He continually says one thing, then you look at the text of the bill online, and you see what he said was a lie. Again and again. Now, tell me again why I should listen and trust him????? I’ll wait until the reality emerges. All the rest is just obfuscation.

    • TeakWoodKite

      act like a leader. ???

You bet it an act. The plot sucks too.

    • Karma

Obama isn’t interested in real reform. It is Halliburton for health care by forcing people into the system while protecting their profits.

Don’t stop your critical thinking just because he is talking about a subject that is near and dear to everyone’s heart.

Read up love….and see who is lying about what. This is just a small part of the lies too. Why do the rest of us have to subsidize the union’s insurance plan with this bill but they are exempt from having to take this ‘fix’ forced on us? Lots of questions and lots of lies offered as answers.

the problem is it’s all lies.

46 million without health care is a lie
not going to cover illegals is a lie
not going to have board of beuracrats that ration based on things like age and diagnosis is a lie
will increase numbers of people covered, increases quality of care and reduces cost is a damn lie (my god it violates laws mathematics)
wont add to the deficit is a lie
wont cause people to lose their current plan is a lie
that providing preventative screening will lower costs is a lie
that to get our economy back on track we need this 1 trillion dollar boondoggle is a lie

It’s all lies and the american people know it. if the left sold this as what it is they wouldnt be able to get more then 30% of the US public to support it.

      • Onofre’s arm

Also, he claimed several times that the young and healthy would be required to purchase coverage, but then he said they would be free to choose what they wanted. Being required to do something isn’t exactly freedom of choice.

The whole speech was filled with glaring contradictions.

But the whole debate over the merits, content, and delivery of the speech is moot when you realize that Obama is a demonstrable pathological liar.

Everyone should constantly be reminding themselves to ignore what he says, watch what he does.

    • Peggy Sue

Try reading Matt Tailbi’s article at Rolling Stone. Or better yet read the summary of the Baucus Bill from the “gang of six,” and tell me that this was what you or any of us had in mind for “reform.”

And the President is acting like a leader? No, he’s acting like he’s still in campaign mode. Salesman-in-Chief. For a program that’s been gutted by the weasels in Congress, most of whom are getting kickbacks from Big Pharm or the healthcare industry itself.

Reform? You don’t have reform by making backroom deals with the very people who created the problem. And the Baucus plan? That went to K Street before it was officially unveiled.

And if President Obama is a true leader? Where is his plan, where are the details, the facts, the figures? Forget the soaring rhetoric. Doesn’t work anymore.

      Nada.

And you think we should buy this idea of reform on faith? Sorry. That “faith” was spent carelessly, long ago.

Fool me once. But not any more!

      • Peggy Sue

Btw, this post was a reply to BruinTwin2. Not sure how it ended up here.

      Calling out the liars?

OBAMA is the liar, and attempted to cram through an unvetted bill in less than two weeks.

Americans are waking up to it, so what happened to you?

Go home and drink your koolaid, you bot!

    • wbboei

Think back to the number of times Mr. Obama has broken his word, and perhaps you will understand the reaction, not only here but on the progressive sites as well. The issue is trust, and this man is simply not trusted. Period. And when that is true, you cannot believe what he is saying about health care. Not when he makes secret deals with big pharma, etc.

    • http://www.lesstalkmoreactivism.blogspot.com whoframedrudy

“All President Obama did tonight is what he is supposed to do – act like a leader.”

All Obama did tonight was try to cover his ass.

Remember the surge? Bush had lost the Congress. The Iraq War was unpopular. The anti-war movement had gone ballistic. Even losing Republican support, POTUS still had the power to push through the surge — over all the outrage and protests.

Obama could do the same on healthcare. This whole mess is not about passing reform, it’s about covering his ass from the political fallout — i.e, staying in power.

Civil debate–hah! Lies and scare tactics. Baloney! You give Hillary supermajorities in both houses, she’d ram universal right up the Republicans’ ass. And if she lost the Congress in 2010, so be it. That is leadership. This was politics.

  • DaddysDarlin

I think we have a representative in Washington!!! One who speaks the words we wish to speak, like LIAR!!!
Obama can take that to the bank! More than 18 million Americans agree with Mr. Wilson and I am one!
What kind of effect do you think this will have for Mr. Wilson? Do you think Michelle wants to hand him his ass along with his walking papers? Too bad it is ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ who elected this man isn’t it Michelle?
Some will call Mr. Wilson disrespectful, I totally disagree, he is ONE BRAVE MAN WHO CALLS IT LIKE HE SEES IT.
We have been screaming at town halls across the country, yet it has fallen upon deaf ears–we don’t want Obamacare…
Apparently Gibbs view of the town halls was that most people want Obamacare, WTF? What meeting was he watching?
Now we have dealt with some crazy people in this administration, bye Van Jones, bye Cass Sunstein, goodbye Obama. One by one, we will take these fuckers out, I will relish it.
The word is getting out, Obama is a fraud, even his kool aid drinking buddies are having their doubts, bliss~~~~~~~
Keep up the pressure Republicans, although I am unaffiliated I appreciate your efforts on my behalf.
    Again, Bravo Mr. Wilson!!!!!

    • Onofre’s arm

Is Cass Sunstein out? Great news if true, but I haven’t heard that.

      • Chicago Joe

Isn’t he married to Monster Sam Powers?

        • Chicago Joe

Last Friday, incoming law professor Cass R. Sunstein ’75 and Kennedy School scholar Samantha Power were married in the seaside town of Waterville in Kerry, Ireland.

According to The Independent of Ireland, Power arrived at the evening ceremony in a champagne-colored Lexus covered in flowers. The 38-year-old author and foreign policy expert walked down the aisle in a cream, lace gown.

Reports surfaced online in May that the 54-year-old Sunstein, the nation’s most-cited legal scholar, and Power were engaged, and that the relationship played a role in Sunstein accepting Harvard Law School Dean Elena Kagan’s perennial offer to leave his longtime home at the University of Chicago Law School.

Especially: if Obama is so interested in bi-partisan solutions, why did he have the DEM-ONLY White House meeting yesterday?

    Yep, great points…thanks…

  • cathnealon

Mr. Wilson-you don’t need to apologize for being passionate enough to shout out the truth. This guy is like a robot–every speech sounds the same, same inflection, same emphasis–God–where did he come from? I don’t think his followers are really believing this trash anymore–they just don’t know how to say “I don’t love you anymore, it’s not you Mr. President, it’s me.”

    • Just Me

Joe Wilson went over the top and should be sacked for what he did.

You are not real big on freedom of speech are you? Consider the possibility that Obama is the one who should be sacked. Put that one in your bot pipe and smoke it. Somebody in the opposition party needs to call the game on him, and in that one brief shining moment someone did. You should open your mind to the truth, rather than standing on protocol.

      • beebop

uh … buddy? It is up to his constituents to determine whether he is “sacked” or not. It is called an “election.” I know, I know, we haven’t had a real “free” one here in so long that you haven’t got a good grasp on the concept, but try looking it up in the dictionary. Sorry for this OT item:

I read on Hillbuzz that HRC will quit her SOS job and run for NY GOV, according to The Weekly Standard who claims it has two sources for the rumor.

    • http://me414.wordpress.com/ Mary Ellen (Nunly)

Hmmm…if that’s true, she may run against Obama in 2012.

In a way I hope it’s true, but then again, Hillary is the only one in that administration who knows what the hell she’s doing.

      • ~~JustMe~~

        ~~ Rise Hillary Rise ~~

    • Peggy Sue

What caught my eye at Hillbuzz was a reported [presumably] foiled assasination plot against Hillary in Kenya. I’m not sure whether that’s true or merely rumor. But it’s scary stuff.

As far as HRC stepping down in 2010 as SOS, it’s almost a tease. For me, she’s the one bright spot in a miserable administration. On the other hand, I’d have no problem if she divorced herself from this flailing and incompetent WH. Run for Governor in NY in 2010? Maybe, and why not?

      Interesting stories floating around!

    • getfitnow

Hillbuzz did not say that! They are “wondering” if she will.

There was only one bright spot in tonight’s speech. He promised to immediately launch a program testing tort reform on a small scale. If he actually follows through on that, it will show it is one of the largest contributing factors to rising health care costs. All the rest was the same old song and dance. I want to see differences in writing! Not have him say uh it’s different….when nothing has changed at all!

    • proud mobster

112 Times Obama has spoken about Healthcare. There is nothing new here. It would seem that a President calls a joint session of Congress so that he could speak to the entire Govt and be above partisan politics. However, Obama instead has decided to lower the prestige of the Presidency as he opts for Community Organizer rather than leader of this great nation.

    • Tammy

It’s already being tested, in a little country called CALIFORNIA.

      And guess what?
      It’s working.

      • rw

Q.A lot of people seem to have taken up the cause of tort reform. Why isn’t it included in the health care legislation pending on Capitol Hill?

A.Because it’s a red herring. It’s become a talking point for those who want to obstruct change. But [tort reform] doesn’t accomplish the goal of bringing down costs.

        Q.Why not?

A.As the cost of health care goes up, the medical liability component of it has stayed fairly constant. That means it’s part of the medical price inflation system, but it’s not driving it. The number of claims is small relative to actual cases of medical malpractice.

Q.But critics of the current system say that 10 to 15 percent of medical costs are due to medical malpractice.

A.That’s wildly exaggerated. According to the actuarial consulting firm … NYTimes today

        • beebop

What it fails to address is the multiple DEFENSIVE tests that a doctor/hospital puts a patient through that is not necessary for the health/treatment of the patient but is necessary for the paper trail in the event of a law suit. Your naivitee would be charming if it wasn’t so dangerous to the discourse.

          • rw

Right, and you believe that a money driven profession will automatically end defensive testing (unnecessary) if tort reform takes place. Become a doctor or marry one and move in their circles, maybe, just maybe, a light bulb might go on.

    • rw

      http://prescriptions.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/31/would-tort-reform-lower-health-care-costs/

tort reform seems not the answer, won’t benefit patients or general public.

      • beebop

Oh yeah. The NYTimes. Sure. I’m jumping all over their opinions. Seriously. There are multiple ads EVERY NIGHT inviting me to join a class action against doctors or drug companies from lawyers not authorized to practice law in my state. How come Axelrod has no problem with that but was all about defending me from the snarky insurance companies who might come into my state who aren’t authorized? Please. I worked as a paralegal in a law firm. Just do some research on how many OB/GYN’s no longer deliver babies. All because of malpractice. When I start using the NYTimes for my sole source of information, I’ll slash my wrists.

        • rw

“There are multiple ads EVERY NIGHT inviting me to join a class action against doctors or drug companies from lawyers not authorized to practice law in my state.”

You must have one eye, one ear and one side of your brain non-operational. You haven’t noticed the ads ad naueseam targeting people directly by pharmaceuticals, have you. Even lawmakers are trying to get stop the legal drug pushing.

Really, what was I thinking in quoting the NYT when the world has in you the voice of authority, a paralegal from some very nice office out of the hundreds of thousands of law offices, in one state out of 50 (or 57) states in a country of 300 million.

OB/GYN…let me give you one of many conversation overheard, this one between two doctors at a very decent hospital’s eatery….”one more hystec and I get my dreamboat.” Wonder how many out there have $$$ on their minds as they practice the noble profession.

    • wbboei

I would agree–if and only if we can believe him. Do you believe him? Remember the trial lawyers are among his biggest contributors and they were not real keen on tort reform last time I checked. But you can get the headline like he did, get people to think he is working on it like he did and then bury the proposal in so much red tape that it never sees the light of day. That is what is going on here. If I believed in him, and thought I could trust him, my reaction would be different. The way this guy operates, there would be a supplemental malpractice fund paid for with public coffers, which his trial lawyer buddies could tap into when insurance limits were exceeded, which would provide yet another excuse for the expansion of government–which is what all this is really about.

So far besides all personal attacks and bull-sheet-rock being thrown around there are very few facts to really chew on. I’ll wait until the dust settles and see what actually goes to conference OR mark up or onto the floor before I make any decisions on whether or not i will support the legislation. In the meantime I will stand on guard and watch.

Thanks, Larry for your blog. I watched the President’s speech and have to admit I temporarily fell under his sway until I started listening to analysis of his speech and reading your blog. Sean Hannity (bless him) talked about Obama seeming to talk out of both sides of his mouth. I thought about this and thought that’s literally true, i. e. Obama talking out of both sides of his mouth. He’s a ventriloquist! No, on second thought, maybe Obama is the “dummie”.

He’d a been called more than a liar there LOL :)

      Yes he would!

    • TeakWoodKite

      Fantastic point!

  • tango

Two points – if there is really so much fraud and inefficiency in Medicare/Medicaid that substantial savings can be found, someone better get their ass in gear finding the savings. Why is ok to eliminate fraud and inefficiency when looking to reform medical insurance but not ok to do so as a regular part of maintaining the programs? Duh! It’s like owning a retail business, knowing you loose thousands of dollars a month in theft & inefficiency but deciding not to do anything serious about it until you need the money to open another 10 stores.

Secondly, how in the world does Obama plan to pay for a $900 billion program without costing Americans one extra penny? As Nicole Wallace says “Obama sounds like a late night infomercial promising that you can sit on the couch and eat all you want and still loose weight”. It’s a scam people.

Likewise, at least 57 liberal Members of the Democrat Caucus have gone on the record saying they will vote against a health care bill without a strong public option.

With luck Obama could turn off both the moderate and liberal Democrats in his quest for the Govt takeover of Healthcare.

  • http://! stodgie

on fox the other night they were saying that obama had to give a real blockbuster of a speech to save his administration. i’d say he failed and i am dxxx glad. now get out out the way barack and let the adults clean up the mess.

  • connie

proud mobster, wouldn’t that be something to get in hot water on both sides of the party. Well so much for a 2nd term.

  • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

    YOU LIE!!!

    That’s hilarious!

And the thing is, I didn’t bother to watch the speech. I’m sure a lot of people skipped it. All that will be remembered are those big headlines: “YOU LIE!!”

Really brilliant…even if Obama wasn’t lying or fudging or obfuscating, “YOU LIE” just puts that question into people’s minds…is he lying? If so, is he lying about everything? What can I trust him about?

PS I do want health care reform, BTW…I don’t buy into this health insurance “reform” being put forward though. If Obama wins on this, we the people lose. I’m not hoping for any true reform while the Pelosi Democrats are still on their power kick….

    • wbboei

I agree. He teed up the issue. It is like the cross examination of Frau Helm (Marlene Detrich) by Sir Winfred (Charles Laughton) in Witness For The Prosecution, towit:

Were you lying then, are you lying now or are you not in fact a chronic and habitual liar?

Insurance for all does not equal Care for all! Did you notice how that uninsured figure of 48 mil dropped to 30 mil in the speech?

  • glennmcgahee

Everybody wil have health insurance. Insurance companies will see their profits soar. You’re sick already? You will be covered. You’re old? You will be covered. You’re poor? You will be covered. All any of you will need is lots and lots of money. No caps on premiums for this coverage and your tax dollars to subsidize the savings. I’d say bonuses for the insurance execs who worked with this administration to come up with this plan are in order.

I tried to send this as an email to Mr Wilson. His site has been overwhelmed with emails and is down. I can only hope the majority of emails were of encouragement not of hate. I would like to express how I feel and maybe someway he will get my message.

    Dear Mr Wilson,

Last night you became our Joe in Washington, and our hero. Americans are aware of what is going on in Washington. We are afraid, but stronger than fear is our anger. We need the Republican party and the Democratic party to stand up for America. The window of opportunity is closing fast. The perfect storm for bringing the United States of America to its knees is fast approaching.

Foreign troops are poised on both our borders, Russian is arming Chavez. Our currency is being devalued and our country mortgaged to China. On the 20th of this month the Chinese flag will rise at the White House. People from countries that “don’t much like us “ are coming in in vast numbers. How soon will Obama bring in troops from the UN? To quell us to quell Honduras, to give freedom away? Or does he plan on his National Civilian Army to do that?

The NEA is being brought into the creating propaganda at tax payers expense. Highly illegal I think. Obama calls clergymen at taxpayers expense. Whats with that? Is only separation of church and state for Republicans?

The unvetted czars are bought and kept, arms of and armed by the Chicago political machine. Radicals all. Most if not all of Obama’s appointments have these same values. The bully pulpit has now set about marginalizing or demonetization of police and the CIA, all the while embracing radical environmentalists, and dictators.

Why are not the Washington tax evaders, cheats in jail? The AG let free a man who on a social network called for killing krakkers, this man also intimidated voters in Philly with a billy club. He was and still is a poll worker. ACORN will be involved with the census, the same ACORN who has been charged with voter fraud. Why are they getting taxpayers money? It gives no cheer to know that some of our electronic voting machines come from Venezuela……

Will the Republicans and Democrats stand up for America? Is there another just like you and another? We will stand by you, take your hand and guard your back, will you do the same for us?

    • Tammy

      GREAT letter, Tzada!
Be sure to send it today.

      Joe Wilson for President! LOL.

    • b mathews

when acorn comes knocking on my door to take the census, i plan on slamming the door in their face and hope everyone does the same. do you really want to give that organization any of your personal information? i sure as hell dont!!

      • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

Don’t slam the door in their face. I believe congressional districts are affected by the count. Maybe you should claim 6 more residents and by all means, feel free to give them any bogus information you want…the Acorn way. LOL. But of course, if they ask your political affiliation and you say anything other than Dimocrat, you probably won’t be counted anyway. Maybe you could claim to be an illegal.

  • TexasMirth

Rep. Joe Wilson is like the little boy who announced, “The emperor is naked!” Thank you, Joe Wilson. You spoke for millions of us.

    • wbboei

Yes. And Barack had to pause and think about it.

  • wbboei

In his declining years, Hemingway used to talk about something he called his bullshit detector. When you are around Barack it would come in handy. But if there was ever a lesson all people should learn in life, the earlier the better it is to be careful to not confuse style with substance. And that means you have to always ask the right questions, and weigh the answers with skepticism.

    • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

I am offended by his style and his substance (what there was of it). My mother always told me to watch what a man says but then watch what he does and according to the gap between the two, you can decide whether he is trustworthy or not.

Barack Obama constantly says one thing and does another. He talks bipartisanship but in action is confrontational and attacks the opposition. He talks open door but slams it in the face of the other party. He says no more games but is the biggest game player on the block. Obama speaks with forked tongue. My mother’s advise: Run the other way as fast as you can. And, I am. He’s a blatant liar, cheat and thief…or as he said about Bill…he’s a bald-faced liar.

  • drmilak

larry, removing my comment just shows that you are afraid of dissenting opinions.

    • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

You probably just got caught in the filter as my last comment was…not dissenting. Why so paranoid?

  • Zoom

A windfall for the insurance companies, that’s what we’re talking about: 30 million more people will fall in their laps, mandated by the gov. to get private insurance from the same bloodsuckers who have been driving up costs and premiums, and we’ll subsidize those who can not afford to pay the premiums.
Talk about socialism, yeah, Socialism for the Corporations, another bailout for the big players, there’s a pattern here of rewarding those who cause the problems.
The insurance companies and Big Pharma are the real winners here, and the American people gets screwed again.

  • Alex

We are in REVOLUTIONARY times and this was a REVOLUTIONARY move. The apology was probably a result of a threat to Joe’s family/career. That is how O-ineligible gets EVERYTHING done, and how he got installed in office in the first place. This is documented!

    You’re going down, BO.

  • Margaret

I love you Larry and I love No Quarter. Title of this piece says it all. I had it on mute for a few minutes and that’s all I could bear.
I still have my Hillary sticker on my car, just to remind those who voted for Obama what might have been..

    • wbboei

      so do I Margaret

  • ford

Should Joe have let it rip last night?
    No.
That said, it is all the American People will remember…Wilson planted the idea that the POTUS is lying..It cannot be dug back out of the voters mind…= win for Wilson.

    • wbboei

ford, I agree they cannot un-ring the bell, but I aint so sure he should not have done it. If big media was doing its job, and confronting him with his broken promises then I would agree with you. But in the absence of a credible watchdog, the responsibility falls on on the Republicans, and I believe they have been far too civil. I would rather see an outburst like that than have the truth hidden by the media, and people fail to connect the dots.

    • ~~JustMe~~

It was better than asshole like Van Jones shouted out & called the Republicans!

  • wbboei

All of us have said at one time or another that it is tough to grow up in this society now. I supported Hillary because I believed she was the only one who cared about young people enough to provide them with a future, and as I traveled to a number of states my commitment became more pronounced. I knew from the beginning and I mean the very beginning who Obama was, and who he was not. I knew he would appeal to young minds who are more impressed with form rather that substance. That is history now, and we are dealing with the consequences. One of the smartest people I know has a daughter who is biracial just like Barack. He can do no wrong in her eyes, and she becomes enraged when her mother tells her the truth. Same with her peer group. The sense of identification they have to him is like what my friend saw in Germany a life time ago. But to me the single greatest failure is big media. The temptation they have to rule this country as a bevy of platonic guardians is so strong that if Obama did not exist they would have to invent him.

    • TexasMirth

The sense of identification they have to him is like what my friend saw in Germany a life time ago.

      THAT IS SCARY!

But to me the single greatest failure is big media. The temptation they have to rule this country as a bevy of platonic guardians is so strong that if Obama did not exist they would have to invent him.

I think they did invent him.

    • pm317

Very well said, wbboei, invent him they will and they have.

    • b mathews

actually they did invent him since he has no record of his own on anything..even where he was born. he said himself he is just a blank slate. well that is the most honest thing he has said so far. he reminds me of that guy that stands on a street corner wearing an overcoat with lots of watches in the inside pockets. “oh..you dont like that one..then how about this one?” no? well i have lots more” in the end he is just a hackneyed salesman ..and not even an honest one.

Sometime I would swear most of the politicians we see on TV now have been trained somewhere underground in some subliminal NLP workshop. Watching these characters emulate each others mannerisms, speech pacing and hand gestures is unnerving.

  • http://www.madinthemiddle.blogspot.com churl

Ah, yes. I remember the good old days when George Bush invited Democrats to the White House to hammer out support for those GOP tax cuts. Yessir, we need to be bipartisan with those “reality makers” from yesteryear. But on a more positive note, Obama is still full of it.

  • EWard

Cong. Joe Wilson spoke the truth. BO lies!!!!!

I am sick of Obama and his cyberbullies on the Internet. Now, there is an orchestrated campaign to villify this man by his brainless supporters. This happened during the primaries and general election when they would thrash Palin, Joe the Plumber, Hillary, and so on. Obama leads through fear.

Memo to Obama – You cannot hide behind a campaign mode. Now, the country is expecting you to perform. What to we get? An incompetent TOTUS that wants absolute power and lies to get your way. The country is on to you and hopefully you will be impeached!!!!

  • Surfered

The Principal Insurance Company has informed us that when the secretary of our small office turns 60 next month, the premium for her coverage will rise from $1,500 to $2,000 per month. Her mistake was getting breast cancer 8 years ago. She had a lumpectomy, radiation and has had no recurrence.

I know this site offers a lot of advice on health care and we’re looking for some constructive suggestions.

    Thanks.

    • HC123

To keep her premiums stable, get her a policy with a much higher copayment and deductible.

Then make her a medical savings account to cover the out of pocket expenses of doctors office visits and copays.

In fact, you will probably save money if you move everyone in your company to such a plan.

And it allows them greater choice in what primary care doctors they see when.

      • Surfered

But isn’t there a time limit on coverage because of the pre-existing condition? What if something “pops up” during that interim period?

        • tango

Well does your health insurance company offer a choice of plans? So if everyone has the $500 deductible, $25 copay plan with ABC insurance company, can’t you just ask ABC company if they have plans that have higher deductibles and copays? And if so, just change plans, not providers. It would seem if it’s the same insurance company without a lapse in coverage, then a pre-existing condition clause shouldn’t apply. But I could be wrong. And if your insurance company doesn’t offer a different plan you can participate in, then yes you would have to worry about pre-existing conditions if changing to a brand new insurance company.

          Info on Health Savings plans:

What Is a “High Deductible Health Plan” (HDHP)?

You must have an HDHP if you want to open an HSA. Sometimes referred to as a “catastrophic” health insurance plan, an HDHP is an inexpensive health insurance plan that generally doesn’t pay for the first several thousand dollars of health care expenses (i.e., your “deductible”) but will generally cover you after that. Of course, your HSA is available to help you pay for the expenses your plan does not cover.

For 2008, in order to qualify to open an HSA, your HDHP minimum deductible must be at least $1,100 (self-only coverage) or $2,200 (family coverage). The annual out-of-pocket (including deductibles and co-pays) for 2008 cannot exceed $5,600 (self-only coverage) or $11,200 (family coverage). HDHPs can have first dollar coverage (no deductible) for preventive care and apply higher out-of-pocket limits (and copays & coinsurance) for non-network services.

Obama should be ashamed of himself. The comparison to Medicare is a cheap shot. People can opt-out of Medicare at any time; and they can do so without being hit with a heavy fine for doing so.

If there is waste in the administration of Medicare, I’m call Obama out! Get out now and reduce the waste in Medicate don’t just talk about it. You don’t need a 1.5 Trillion dollars and an unnecessary new bureaucracy as an excuse to start.

It just goes to show that Obama is a rank amateur politician with no experience and only a running mouth that when it’s open, Obama is telling lies or telling damn lies.

    My diagnosis:
    The country is terminal.
It is being devoured from the inside.
Civil discourse is dead, and every issue from A to Z is now a missile to hurl at the other side.
I lived through the turbulence of the Vietnam War and also the Civil Rights movement. The country still offered islands of sanity.
The people at the Town Halls look a lot like me…older, grayer and reaching their final curtain call.
Being disruptive is not their usual nature, but many of them share my views, as stated above.
