“Tens of Thousands”

Yes, more numbers to report to you you today. “Tens of Thousands” is the phrase the Washington Post and The New York Times used to describe the numbers of people marching on Washington yesterday, voicing their concerns over the rampant spending by Congress. “Tens of thousands” has apparently become a euphemism for 1.2 - 2 MILLION, since that’s how many showed up on 9/12/09 in Washington. Too bad the Washington Post couldn’t get the “official estimate” – it was available, but hey – why bother with the facts when it is so much easier to just guess and minimize?

No need to take my word for it. Watch this short video (from a traffic camera) to get an idea of just how many people were there (and again, thanks to Logistics Monster, who was THERE, for this video link):

The thing that bugged me about the MSM reporting is that they consistently copied each other – oh, no wait – it just LOOKED that way (check out their opening lines in the articles above and you’ll see what I mean). No, it is that they consistently claimed the marchers were all Conservatives. Apparently, this was their way to dismiss the real anger and frustration people have toward this Congress, whose approval rating is LOW, something else these writers could have looked up easily, and this President, whose ratings continue to decline. They just write them off as some right-wing whackos (1.5 million or so of them), and pay no attention to their actual concerns.

And they have plenty of them. You know, concerns like the fact that the US Government now owning 61% of GM (hey, anyone want to buy a Cadillac?); or that the Obama Administration is adding $3 MILLION to the National Debt EVERY MINUTE; or maybe it’s the 32 czars – oops, make that 31 czars (see ya, Van) Obama is appointing left and right; or the Health Care Bill; or I could go on and on and on. These aren’t just Conservative concerns – these are AMERICAN concerns. But they won’t report it that way, because it doesn’t suit the meme they have created. Had they bothered to talk to some more people on the ground, they would have found out they were Democrats, Independents, and Republicans, all coming together to protest the out of control spending of this Congress and this Administration. To put it in perspective, we are $1 TRILLION more in debt since Obama took office. $ONE TRILLION. Once again, that’s not just an issue for Conservatives. That is an issue for ALL Americans.

Here are some photos of signs at the march – they came via Barbara Espinosa who sent them to Pajamas Media at THIS site. You can see more there:

This video from – of all places – MSNBC – is a fairly good synopsis (though they still couldn’t refrain from painting this as a wholly conservative movement – until the very, very end, when the reporter actually spoke the truth). I saw it at Michelle Malkin’s site while looking for an awesome photo I saw last night, which I have not been able to find again. The sign said, “We Are Not Wee Weed Up: We are PISSED!” If I find it, I’ll add it. Here’s the video:

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

This is but a snapshot of the day. There is so, so much more to the events of the day, the numbers of people, the calls for accountability in our government.

For those people who aren’t upset about the added $Trillion to our deficit, the takeover of GM, the unvetted czars, the $Trillion Health Care Plan, etc., etc., those people who are downplaying the size of this march, who blow it off as just some group of conservatives going off half cocked, my question is, Why the hell are you NOT upset at what our government is doing??? Bill Clinton downsized our government tremendously, Bush increased it, and now Obama is bankrupting it. Why AREN’T they upset??

  • Sassy

    Why aren’t they upset?
My best guess is that many of them are waiting for their cut from the pot of gold.
The rest have their gold stashed offshore!

    • Ladydawnelle

of course it takes a 2nd tier Woman to TELL THE TRUTH on MSNBO!! I’m so shocked they even reported this? What time was it aired? 2am? lol

where are all the protest cheerleaders from MSNBO? they LOVE protests!! don’t they?

    • http://sarainitalyblog.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

      CHECK OUT THESE PICTURES!!!

WOW< JUST WOW! I don’t care WHAT the total is, this is a HUGE crowd. Especially for a group of people that are unhappy with their government. This wasn’t an historical inauguration, this was a protest! This is HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE.

And for every person there, you can be sure there were MANY more at home, or at rallies around the country.

      http://www.stealthfusion.com/forum/fusion-research/4910-amazing-photos-9-12-march-washington-vs-usa-today-national-mall-schematic.html

(make sure to go all the way to the last photo… note the difference between the inauguration, and this protest…)

      • Ferd Berfle

        Excellent link, Sara.

I’d say the 70K number our resident squatter obamabots keep posting is just a tad shy–by about an order of magnitude.

I don’t know if this is what you mean, but what I noticed more than anything else was that they left the areas clean, which indicates to me that they *care*, unlike those who left the wretched mess after inauguration.

        • http://sarainitalyblog.blogspot.com/ American Girl in Italy

yes i was talking about the garbage! Can you believe the difference?!

      • Lily

Thanks for the photos. For some reason, my computer was refusing at multiple websites to link to the 1.5 to 2.0 million marcher video (although it was easily linking to other videos). Hmmm. Anyway, these photos are impressive. Among the more direct impacts of the march, it will be interesting to see if there is now an explosion of H1N1 flu. Seems to me that this sea of people would constitute a good transmission zone for the virus. I only mention that because like many other stories being fed to us by the mainstream media, the reporting about the H1N1 virus leaves me highly skeptical.

Oh, and to any Obamabots reading this, I didn’t know about this march until after it happened. Although, I wouldn’t have been able to go, I certainly would have been there in spirit….like many, many more.

        • tzada

Lily I couldn’t go either but I was watching Beck. Here is an article with estimates.

          9/12 was a transformative event

Sometimes an event occurs which is transformative in a way that everyone who sees it or participates in it instantly is aware of. Yesterday’s demonstration in Washington DC is one of those rare happenings in my opinion.

The Daily Mail said 2 million Americans participated. My friend Charlie Martin extrapolated from the pictures an attendance figure of 2.3 million. Here is a time lapse of the parade portion of the event so you can get a feel for yourself of the size of the crowd. Whatever the actual number it is sure to be seriously underestimated by the Obama-besotted members of the press corps who are also likely to misrepresent the participants and their views.

But as a participant, I want you to know the attendees were wonderful people, civil and polite. They showed their respect for the Capitol and the event by leaving no mess behind when they were through, in marked contrast to the inauguration and the usual left wing demonstrations here.

      • avwrobel

Nice link Sara! Thanks a bunch

  • Tricia Spiegel

I was listening to the BBC yesterday, and they reported the march so much more accurately in terms of what it was all about! Geesh! It’s a damn shame when we have to go to the foreign media for the facts about yout own country.

Good post Amy. That traffic video is amazing.

    • Ani

      Great job, Amy.

Congress and Obama may pretend ignorance or that they are ignoring these protests, they are not. The hallways of Congress will be buzzing.

For every American citizen, regardless of political affiliation, who traveled on their own dime to go to one of these protests yesterday, that number increases exponentially when you consider those who feel just as angry but for whatever reason were unable to attend.

Congress ignores this at its peril. By Pres. Obama minimizing and insulting protesters with legitimate gripes, they only become angrier and louder. No one wants to be told their concerns are meaningless or worse, that they don’t exist.

I agree, Tricia. It is frightening that the bulk of the American press is acting like Pravda. I thought it was bad during Pres. Bush’s first term. This biased coverage outdoes that by a factor of ten.

      • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Excellent point, Ani. I was thinking abt that just this morning – all those of us who could NOT go to DC this weekend (myself included) for a number of reasons. How many of us does each one of the Marchers represent? 1? 5? 10?

And of course, Obama had to skip town for it. No way will HE be faced with anyone protesting his Administration. “Nope, Not gonna do it. Wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture…” (Dana Carvey doing GHWB) Uh, yeah.

I hope you are right, though – I hope our Congresspeople ARE paying attention. The next elections are just around the corner, so they BETTER be, right?

        • AngryMobberinDC

I was there for you, on your behalf, along with approximately 1.5 MILLION of my closest American patriotic friends.
The MOST IMPORTANT fact about this protest was that it cut across all political stripes and all ethnic backgrounds. This protest was an AMERICAN protest. Liberals and Conservatives, black, white, hispanic and “others” were ALL there. WE Americans hold tightly to our right to free speech among the other basic rights which allows us the RIGHT to disagree on policy while still revering this great country.
As a result of this fanatastic, unparalleled, gut-inspiring march against communism, I suggest shed our contentious labels, and re-brand ourselves CONCERNED AMERICANS.
On the way to and from the protest march, I was honored to be seated next to older Cubans who remember well the demise of their dear country into communism and tyranny. They each said to me that time is short. The damage this crew can do is beyond what we can imagine. They saw it, they know. Communism can not stand.
Together, we Concerned Americans must yank our country back. There is little time to waste, put away the D’s and the R’s, and unite to save this country from the hands of those who would destroy her.
If we dont act together now, we may learn to despise the defacto symbol imposed upon us.

I am not an activist. I am not a racist. I am not a mobster. I am not a right-wing extremist.

          I am you.

Join us in making them listen. The enemy is within, and while we are still busy attacking each other, HE is busy forwarding a communist agenda that none of us want. Resist this now; we can argue about it later… hopefully.

          • devildog666

I just got back. It was unbelievable. Those pictures don’t even show the filled mall clear over to the Washington monument.
One big difference between this crowd ant the mob at the Inaugural – we cleaned up after ourselves. No trash was left littering the area.

We had over 2 million people there, my new best friends, and we aren’t going to stop just because the media and government are lying about our numbers. We’re growing and we are going to fire all those prima donnas in congress if they refuse to hear the people.

          • MBC

Thank you for attending and representing us! I am sorry I could not make it, but please know for everyone of you there, there were at least 20 here at home that could not get there! Thank you very, very much!

            • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Absolutely – thank you so much for being there! I think it would be great if those of you were actually present wrote up something, or allowed us to re-post your comments. Amazing. You are true Americans.

          • tzada

            From the National Review

Another interesting detail about the march — it was filled with immigrants. I’m pretty sure every Cuban in a thousand mile radius was there, helpfully explaining to everyone who would listen that Cuba’s vaunted free health-care system involves shoddily trained doctors and bringing your own linen to the hospital. I also spoke to angry immigrants from England and Ireland, appalled the country was slouching toward socialized medicine.

          • jeffC

Did you hear about the new party forming that was unveiled at the march? It is called The United Patriots Party. Go to http://www.birthofparty.com

  • Diana L. C.

And just like a coward, Obambi made sure he was not in town. I wonder where Pelosi, Reid, Frank, and the gang were?

    • Ladydawnelle

they used to make a BIG DANG DEAL when W would cut out of town almost every weekend (it seemed)

I think Obummer has more than made UP for it. They can never use that one again. Hell they can’t use ANY of the old stand by lines. It’s too little toooooo late.

      Bambi wins
he’s absolutely the WORST PRETZELDENT EVERRRRR!

Laura and W should have a party. “We’re no LONGER on the bottom” yippee? (snicker)

      • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

        LOL – you’re right – O’gummah wins…

Tricia, it is VERY sad that other countries cover our news better than we do. And for the Big Three to engage in propaganda – on OUR airwaves is egregious.

cOmmunista was horrified at the millions of people. You know meanshelle was digging a spider hole on the South Lawn… just a few feet where on September 20, 2009, the CHINESE flag will fly. cOmrade take down that flag. cOmrade we are not all commies now.

  • kgirl1028

yester day while watching the march I noticed something strange and it wasn’t until i saw a report on one of the pro obama boards mocking the reports of 1-2 million tally.

People say believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear for a reason. Yesterday I kept noticing, people were constantly being asked to move around. They were not allowed on “mall” supposidly becuse a private company had rented it. I think this was purpostly done. TO make the crowds look thinner in photos. Sorry but after last year and most of this one, i don’t trust MSM in the least. When you cut and past a black man with an automatic rifle to the point of where no one knows what color the man is and accuse people of being racists I know i can’t trust you. The Media of this country is warped and will say do anything to help Obama even to the point of where they will make things up or completely ignore information.

    • tek

kgirl: That has been the case since Dubya. Did you not notice it when the MSM totally lied and framed everything to benefit Bush? That’s where the Obama supporters are completely stupid. Why would the MSM support him unless he’s another corporate shill like Dubya?

      • trixta

Bingo, tek! BO is Phase II of the corporatist takeover of this country (GWB, Phase I).

      • Thinker

        exactly.

The types of voters that denied voting for Dubya when they actually did are going to be the SAME people that deny voting for Obama.

So many of us that didn’t support him caught so much hell this past campaign season, not comfortable speaking out against Obama because so many people in this country were in the tank with him.

        Now the blinders are off.

It’s just so amazing how the majority of us on this site saw right through him from day one.

      • kgirl1028

True but those same people like with all past presidents would cut Bush’s throat as soon they would kiss it. But with OBama their is chillingly new departure from the truth. Mean while he is actively distroying this country where as Bush was simply giving us a bad reputation. It as almost as if they are making up a whole new reality to suit Obama. Dialy amail in the UK stated there were 1.5 to 2 million people there. And yet the Americans news papers quote tens of thousands. I hate to say it but some of these News outlet’s are boarding on treason. and it’s not not the government they are selling out, but the every day average american citizen who stands to loose everything because they want to advance Obama’s agenda. I propose same group of two million along with the rest of us, need to take a little trip to these these propaganda mills. Just like our government needs to be fearful of the people, it seems press needs to have a healthy dose of it as well. They need to know that they are answerable to us as well. you don’t make shit up to suit a president at the expense of your fello citizen. And I think Maureen Dowd would be a hell of alot less snarky if she thought we might show up at we show up out side of the New York times building looking particular peaved . What use is it to have a free press if they won’t tell the damn truth.

  • EWard

    Rev. Amy

Thank you so much for the real count…1.2 – 1.5 million. Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee….

No matter how much Obama, the Dems, and the MSM dismiss or demean us, we speak for the majority in the country now. Did anyone catch the TOTUS at a rally on Saturday? He was in campaign mode. Obama addresses nothing about the concerns of the Americans questioning his judgment and plan. It is all, we will succeed. This is total manipulation and incompetence.

Memo to Obama – you are right, we will succeed in impeaching you…..

  • jbjd

I posted this on the Boston Globe site.

You don’t get it. You can attempt to marginalize this ‘movement’ by under-reporting the numbers, or describing the protesters as “mostly white” – read the U.S. Census lately? – or, Conservative but, you are missing the point. Here is a comment that was posted about me, on what could be described as a ‘right wing’ blog:

You may be interested in reading jbjd’s site if you want information. I am not sure if the author is male or female, but they are a juris doctor and a liberal democrat. They worked for Hillary Clinton and became disillusioned with Obama and Pelosi when they witnessed how the Democratic National Committee stole the ballot from their candidate and gave it to Obama (they outline this quite well on their ). Anyway, I have spent the last few days reading over jbjd’s entire site and I really think they siteneed more publicity, as they have handled the subject in a very intelligent and forthright manner. As you know I have read everything I come across on the subject and I can’t find anything on jbjd’s site that is false or misleading. They make every effort to cut through the BS and determine the truth.

But, having been ‘warned’ of my liberal credentials, guess what happened? Readers of that blog flocked to mine in droves, and read my articles, and have returned. Because to us patriots, the issues resulting from this past election cycle and the imposition of BO into the Oval Office transcend party, and profession, and race. (FYI, this white liberal former D would have attended the ‘tea party’ in DC with my black son if we could have.) http://jbjd.wordpress.com

R3A, I saw that sign, too; I will look for it.

    • Ani

      :)

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Well said, jbjd, well said. It is just more convenient for them to discount and dismiss us, then they don’t have to really look at what we are saying.

They remind me of the 25% (or so) of the people who supported Bush no matter what. Unfortunately, they also happen to control our media, for the most part.

That is why the work people like you do is so important. And everyone else here who stands up against these manipulations and lies.

    • AngryMobberinDC

I saw that sign too. It was/is a classic.

I got all wee wee’d up… then saw a sign of the jOker and got all pissed off.

I was about a 50 feet from the monitor in the front of the capitol. Looking back to the Washington Monument, more than a million American faces looked over my head to the dome. OUR Dome.

O may think this is a joke, but congress and the czars better get all wee wee’d up … cause they are going WEEEEEE WEEEEEEEEEEEE WEEEEEEEEEEEE all the way home…

I’m looking for that pic too.

  • Cahil

Of course the MSM can’t show or tell the truth. Once that happens, their cesspool of lies and cover-ups for this bunch of thieves becomes fact, and that’s the last type of journalism they want to print.

If you look in the Longman Dictionary of American Enlish under “fail”, one example states: “The President failed in his effort to establish a national health care system.”

Look for this book to be banned or rewritten if the Obumblites find out.

  • don tufts

hey amy ,sarahs doing great in the new school.on to business there are several ways to estimate crowd size that the media did not take the time to .one is to use the park service graphic in usa todays 1/20/09 edition, you come up with just shy of a million[the pools were full unlike the inagaration]or use simple math and the time release photos and you come up with close to the same number.so when i see abc quote 60 to 70 estimate from the dc fire department my reaction is wtf .of course a department controlled by a city government that is left wing bots wouldnt lie now would they?

  • Diana L. C.

The numbers should be even higher. Think of the numbers of the people who made up the crowds in their states because they couldn’t make it to D.C. We had two large groups of protestors at our state Capitol.

    • jbjd

      Excellent point.

  • barry bums a ciggie

I saw a video on Drudge yesterday showing a reporter from CNN getting boo’ed and drowned out by chants of “no more lies!” It was refreshing to watch :) CNN has lost all credibility with me. With MSNBO we know what we’re getting but CNN tries to pretend that they didn’t drink that kool-aid.

Van Jones forced resignation happened without a peep from the MSM, so did the severing of ties with ACORN from the Census after those videos went viral revealing that the msm are indeed irrelevant. I’m thinking they got rotten eggs on their faces so they HAD to at least show a few clips of the rally in DC.

maybe it’s the 32 czars – oops, make that 31 czars (see ya, Van)

Great post RRRA, you always make me laugh with the snark in your writing.

    • http://www.sonicninjakitty.wordpress.com Sonic Ninja Kitty

Why should CNN loose credibility–just because they completely make stuff up like the Friday DC coast guard fiasco? HAH!!!!!

This would all be comical if it weren’t so disgusting!

      • barry bums a ciggie

they are hitting bottom. Andersen Cooper’s rating last Thurs. was around 600K viewers, now that’s pathetic. Wonder if he still thinks it’s funny calling these “tens of thousands” who showed up in DC this weekend tea-baggers.

  • Tammy

Joe Klein said that these are “working class white people” who are protesting because Obama is black…

The race card ain’t working anymore, folks. I’m getting sick of these MSM stooges. The more they lie and cover for Obama, the more they look like the fools that they are.

I watched the DC march and was in AWE.

And Obama was in Minneapolis(my town) yesterday and only got 15,000. That’s NOTHING in the Target center.
Nobody cares what you have to say, Obama! STFU!

    People are awake.
And they will fight this Marxist government.

I’m just sick of having ahole MEN in charge of this country.
The last two have run the place into the ground.

Not saying all men are aholes. Clearly they are NOT. But that title fits men better than women and we’ve suffered the last decade with two of the biggest I”VE ever witnessed!

There’s just one thing that worries me about this argument and I can sum up my concern in one word: MICHELLE. Or, perhaps: NANCY. I just want a good, honest, non-arrogant person of high character who is proud to be an American: don’t care what gender, race, religion, ethnic background, political party, or taste in clothes.

          • Ferd Berfle

The only other adjective I would add is competent. Other than that, you’re spot on, rr.

    • candymarl

Agreed Tammy. WTH is up with this “working class white people” meme? What, now that’s a bad thing?
They’re still trying to divide us by group and color while ignoring that fact that everyone at these protests aren’t white.

They need to get over themselves.

      • Ani

That is code for racist redneck.

        • Ani

And Klein should be ashamed of himself — this is the same crap they pulled on Hillary’s voters — as if there was something wrong with being working class. We were called low information, Archie Bunkers, bitter, hags, dried up, and of course racists.

The truth is any Hilary voters was ten times better educated to the issues than any comparable Obama supporter I ever talked to — not one could name an accomplishment or any concrete policy proposal beyond “he’s for change.”

These accusations ring more and more hollow.

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I can’t even begin to say how offensive that it. First of all, there is nothing wrong with being working class. Second of all, because one disagrees with someone else for POLICY reasons does NOT make one a racist.

People like Klein have cheapened the word, and minimized the real effects of racism (like the Boy Who Cried Wolf, when there ARE issues of racism, people will discount them because the word has been so overused…

      • b mathews

since AA’s make up only 14% of the population, doesnt that mean it was the whites who actually got him elected? so stop calling us racists. enough already. it beginning to ring hollow.

If they were unable to denounce us as “racists” they would have nothing at all to say.

  • candymarl

I wish the media would just report and stop editorializing. Leave that to the pundits and the Op-Ed pages.

They still don’t get it. They’re still trying to make it black v. white, left v. right, young v. old, etc.
People are frightened and angry and rightfully so. The whole idea of voting out the Repubs and putting the Dems in charge was positive change.

Now it seems that this administration isn’t listening anymore than the last. They’re continuing many of the same policies and expanding the same wars. That’s what’s pissing people off.

    • HARP

And they will suffer the same fate.

    • Ferd Berfle

They still don’t get it. They’re still trying to make it black v. white, left v. right, young v. old, etc.

You hit the nail on the head, candymarl. That One divided black from white, young from old, democrat from democrat, the haves from the have-nots, and the educated from the less educated among many others.

Why is this not being covered by the MSM. Oh, because we’re only just a bunch of hicks and racists.

Ferd, Every time I read an article in which some black person says “I feel like an American for the first time.” I think to myself: “How bizarre. Where have you been? I always knew you were.”

I read this comment again in an article in the Marin Independent Journal quoting an former political ally of mine. This guy has been on the dole for decades and works through the left wing of the Dims for “the poor and needy”. He gets a lot of press and a lot of attention for his agenda and he never felt like an American? How pitiful can it get? Next we’ll be hearing this from Donna.

Did you guys see any of the speakers in the DC March? I recorded the whole thing.

There was a black speaker(male) who said, “Oh, and I am NOT an AFRICAN American, I am an AMERICAN”.

The crowd went nuts. He made the point that you are making, Martha

        • kenoshamarge

Then perhaps I/we shouldn’t feel like real Americans until a woman is in the White House.

I want to see a woman in the White House before I die but double that will happen.

But because it hasn’t happened doesn’t make me any less of an American in my own eyes.

Hell our boys in government gave us girls the vote via the 19th Amendment and it was ratified on August 18, 1920. The 15th Amendment gave black men the right to vote in 1870. Now who should be feeling less like citizens? Women IMHO. And that means black women too!

      Candymarl,

I think a lot of hate speech is being gotten away with. I saw a post today mapping the United States, into red and blue with only the Southern States being drawn as red. It is more than ignorant when the media is allowed to perpetuate hate. I posted yesterday about some of the very sick comments I read about the protesters, which I will not repeat again, save the fact a common theme was that we in the southern states are in need of being put down. It isn’t a responsible group that suggests such things; considering our history in this country. The assumption about any race, living specifically in one area, and being a person born and raised there is also quite ignorant. We all in our moments of honesty know we have our prejudices, they can be anything from race, to religion, with many, many variables in between, however there seems to be what I would call a “payback” push by our new supporters of this administration for imagined wrongs by this older generation, as if we were involved in anything to do with our troubled past prior to the civil rights movement. Historically, (my) this generation which is now older are the boomers, many of which lived and learned the civil rights we all wanted. It’s nonsensical to be labeling and dividing people to the core; what is the expectation of this is what I want to know. What will be gained? Diversion of attention to continue to raid the coffers and trade away everyone’s rights. In the end it won’t matter which party anyone belonged to. They are all “takers”.
I don’t know where and why this turning on others is so important, to be supportive of an administration. It gets uglier by the day.

      • candymarl

Katmoon the worst part is I believe it’s deliberate. For all of his flaws Bill Clinton went out of his way to include everyone. He even tried to include the folks that vilified him.

What happened to now that we have a President that looks like us (although he’s not one of us not being a descendant of slaves and all) we can begin to heal? Why is race now being used as a stick to beat people with?

Obama uses the race stick, or allows his surrogates to do so, like a cudgel. He knows what he’s doing and it’s hurting the country. To me that’s unforgivable.

        • Katmoon

I agree Candymarl, I think it is deliberate also, this will make the races at the very least wary and distrustful of each other or as we are already seeing, vilifying each other assume there is hatred for each other, further if either is from one party or the other, more assumptions are made; that pot will hit a boiling point and we may see violence increase, I pray we do not. O said it himself in reference to how his grandmother felt when she saw someone who was AA-which is from a generation older than myself.
What I do not understand is how younger people can fall for this? (this I admit must be one my prejudices). Are they so in need of having a part of history to claim for themselves this it to be it, under the guise of being part of electing an AA president? Maybe that is what O sees, he can give those hungry for a mark in history no matter how crappy of a president he is-his automatic assumptions about the white police officer, his partisan speech, particularly on health care, where it will effect everyone. Neither Clinton would have or ever has behaved in such a manner.

        • Tammy

          candymarl:

Not only does Obama use the race card, but he ONLY talks to Democrats.

I thought he was the President of the whole country, not just his voters.
          Bush never talked like that.
          Clinton never talked like that.
          Carter never talked like that.

I think it’s despicable. Read the transcript of his speech here in Minnesota yesterday, and you’ll know what I mean.

He’s in constant campaign mode, and anyone who disagrees with him is seen as the enemy.
What kind of a President is that?

  • Ferd Berfle

For those people who aren’t upset about the added $Trillion to our deficit, the takeover of GM, the unvetted czars, the $Trillion Health Care Plan, etc., etc., those people who are downplaying the size of this march, who blow it off as just some group of conservatives going off half cocked, my question is, Why the hell are you NOT upset at what our government is doing???

Because they are the beneficiaries of this administration’s ill-conceived policies and wanton spending. They aren’t contributing anything of value, monetarily or intellectually, so why should they care? Of course, they have forgotten the fable of The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs.

    • propertius

Ferd, in case you haven’t noticed the only beneficiaries of this administration’s policies are the shareholders and executives of the major banks and insurance companies. Those of us who’d like real healthcare reform, for example, were thrown under the bus long ago, along with GLBTs, civil libertarians, feminists, and working people in general.

      • Ferd Berfle

shareholders and executives of the major banks and insurance companies.

Propertius, you are correct and, in addition, my point is actually made–his supporters are all takers, from greedy corporate welfare queens to shiftless ACORN slackers and crooks.

        • trixta

Let’s add to that list, Ferd, BO’s Wall Street and corporatist cronies.

Say goodbye to TV, “news” and print. Paper of record is just landfill.

Love it! Great post. We had a GREAT Tea Party. I saw nothing like it here in Santa Fe. Our small little city….when we drove up and so many were all over the streets and corners holding up signs. It was the most I’ve seen, including the stop the war one I attend.

And sadly, that “news” and “print” pertains to local, too. Our tiny, non existent, in Richardson’s hands, Santa Fe New Mexican didn’t even mention it. But they sure covered the “pet parade”.

    People power!

    • I’m a Linda too

      AND RRRA, an excellent ending.

That’s what makes the poster of “Put a Democrat in the White House, impeach Obama” perfect.

Apparently people don’t seem to remember that the Clinton/Gore presidency decreased waste, reduced spending, saw the best economic times and created 22 million jobs, while reversing the defict giving us a surplus. HELLOOOOO you ignorant idiots who want to rely on empty words by a hustler!!!

      • Ani

And yet Obama was able to make people believe the Clinton President was a failure. I guess he needed to spit on something he would never be able to achieve.

        • I’m a Linda too

I guess, and clearly as we see. Oh, I just loved his “I’ll create or save 3 million jobs in 3 years”. How embarrassing. And his drinkers bought that. Showing they have absolutely no idea about reality.

        • trixta

Yes, Ani. Obama’s identity as a person and politician depends on having a foil of some kind. That is to say, his existential being rests on a ground of pure negativity.

I love hearing abt the marches elsewhere, too, even if your media picks the pet parade over one to take back our country…It dos my heart good that people are standing up, and speaking out.

Oh, Ani – you are so right. He did not want his administration compared to Bill’s at ALL – so he did what we see happening now – trashing everything positive Bill did, telling us what’s up is down, just like Bush, and that Obama’s way is the way back/forward/whatever…

Hello, all! I was in Washington D.C. yesterday, in the thick of it, and it was awesome!!!! I can tell you that it was well over a million! I’ve never seen anything like it-ever! and, the police officers smiled and enjoyed it- they said it was the most genuine and respectful crowd they can ever remember protesting in D.C. Wonderful! We were right up close to the Capitol where the speakers were and it blew me away when the crowd chanted, U.S.A, U.S.A. and sang, etc. It raised goosebumps on my neck- My husband wanted to storm the capitol and take it over, but I told him it would be better to wait until it was occupied! Laugh!!! Everyone there was ready for another protest- we stood next to folks from Texas and Virginia, then later ran into a couple vacationing from Austria- they walked up to us and asked what was going on- we explained and they said that they have national healthcare in Austria, and private insurance…the national care costs them 14% of their income each year- it provided good services, but they both ardently agreed that their sort of service couldn’t possibly work for a country as large as the U.S. They wished us luck, and we implored them to enjoy their 18 day trip in the U.S. What a day- I am tired today, and taking it easy, putting together something to email to friends about the event.

I do wish people would march without painting Hitler mustaches on the president or other pubic officials. This is a valid cause, but when marchers resort to such juvenile tactics, it makes them look like a case of sour grapes, no more.

Huge deficits and public healthcare have nothing to do with Hitler. That’s just Republicans who don’t like having a Democrat in the WH. Bush raised debt and deficits higher than any other president in our history, but these same people did not get out and march against him.

If we continue to behave out of stark partisanship, there’s no hope for this country.

    • Katmoon

I hope people who are with a party are able to let those in the middle just be for right now. All of us need to respect we are all hurting and let the success of many coming together be good enough without trying to gain more members for either party. There are many of us here in the middle having left a party or never having a party to begin with. Big Government comes from both sides, and I want to say I fully respect those who are just on the same side as everyone else protesting, the “us”.

If we continue to behave out of stark partisanship, there’s no hope for this country.

      I agree tek.

    • Ferd Berfle

I agree, tek. The cause is big government and wasteful spending on the part of BOTH parties. Making this yet another right/left, Democrat/Republican, guns/butter false dilemma misses at least half of the problem, that being the truth that no one forced these bozoz in Congress or the WH to raid the treasury during the past nine years. This is the doing of both parties and unless both parties are held accountable, nothing will ever change. I don’t care who is raiding my wallet for whatever reason–it is wrong-period–end of discussion.

      • trixta

We had lots of homemade signs and many flying Old Glory and “Don’t Tread on Me” flags. I didn’t see any Hitler signs but there was someone handing out Lyndon LaRoche sheets with Obama/Hitler pictures. They have been pretty active around Monterey…tables outside Trader Joes’, etc., which surprised me.

    • candymarl

There were pictures of Bush as Hitler all over the net. GWB seems to have survived that just fine. Bill Clinton was called a rapist and murderer. If you can’t stand the heat…. BTW caricatures of American politicians as villains from other eras or countries is a long standing tradition.

I lived in Europe. Over there people would just laugh, shake their heads and say well they’re exercising their free speech.

I’ve been directed by elderly Germans to spots where people were lined up and shot by Nazis. I inspected the bullet holes. A poster? Not that big a deal.

And by the way, I think that if this ever happened (taking God out of the equation, I mean), it might be the tipping point for even more Americans than showed up to the 1.5 million American Tea Party march in D.C. yesterday. Fox interviewed a pastor (and as I have said before, oh so many times this last year, thank God [see?] he happened to be black)at the Texas tea party yesterday and he emphasized the all-inclusiveness of America while underscoring its Judeo-Christian roots. With apologies to those out there who don’t believe in some kind of God (my very Catholic father used to say that God is the creative force of energy in the universe – and that was before the touchy-feely ’70s), I think perhaps that given the current climate of way too much unfamiliar change, getting rid of God as an acceptable symbol may cause more Americans to rally.

The people at the protest I attended were sincerely concerned about our entire country. I am certain that yesterday’s crowds were also!
We must continue on! We will be heard and counted!

  • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

We had our Monterey Tea Party yesterday. We had around 300 with lots of flags and signs. This was probably triple the number we had from the campaign for McCain/Palin just before the election. We had great rock & roll band that really kept the mood upbeat. Lots of cars honking in support and only around 6 or 7 middle fingers…which I have been calling “The Obama Salute” but others have named “The Rahm Emanuel Howdy”. You have to remember that I’m in the midst of the Land of Liberal New Age Woo Woos…so 300 was pretty good.

When we were out for the election, Obama’s team got to the park first and took over the spot by the stop light where we were supposed to be according to our permit. However, they kept coming down to our group to harass and were extremely confrontational. We had no Prop 8 signs but I guess we were tarred with that brush anyway as two gays…one male and one female got so in-your-face, we had to call the police. Yesterday, no confrontations (oh, one guy shouted “Nazi” as soon as the stop light turned green and he sped off) and on the whole it was a happy high energy day.

My Georgia cousin sent me a picture of one of the signs from their demonstration: “Shove this down our throats in 2009 and we’ll shove it up your A** in 2010″ with the note that rednecks know how to get their point across!

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

BTW, this morning’s Monterey Herald had the “tens of thousands” article at the bottom of the front page but not a thing about the local demonstration. I thought maybe it would be on the front of the “B” section but guess what? In the center of the page was a big article about a Mexican festival in Salinas with Mexican flags the center piece of the large picture. I am canceling my subscription tomorrow. Disgusting.

We were told at our demonstration yesterday that the DC crowd was 1.5 million.

    • Ferd Berfle

There is some dink on huffypoo who said the crowd was about “75,000″.

ABC definitely did report the 1.5 million figure on its broadcast news report. I think they had even attributed it to a Park Service estimate (which may have been conflated with the number of total visitors??). CNN then gave in with a 2 million figure, and FOX is the one still reporting tens of thousands ??

      • Slim Tyranny

        From Washington Monthly:

At no time did ABC News, or its affiliates, report a number anywhere near as large. ABCNews.com reported an approximate figure of 60,000 to 70,000 protesters, attributed to the Washington, D.C., fire department. In its reports, ABC News Radio described the crowd as “tens of thousands.”

  • Portia Elizabeth

Maria — thank you for getting a more accurate report from a foreign press! Maybe we should all just subscribe to British newspapers if we want accuracy.

Rev. Amy, thank you for this excellent and humorous post!

Oh gosh – what an irony. During the Bush administration, one of my Republican friends accused me of reading only the foreign press (like the BBC) because I was critical of Bush. She was furious with me for that. Now it looks as if she is going to have to turn to the foreign press herself in order to get any real un-doctored information. This is craziness. Obama is going to get kicked out of office one day, and guess who people will want to clean up the mess??

  • wyntre

I found this great crowd guesstimate at another site.

Over at my website I provided a quick analysis:
Route as shown in the timelapse – 1.1 miles
Width of Pennsylvania Avenue – 90 feet (8 lanes wide)
Accepted density of people in such a crowd – 4 for every 10 square feet
Time to traverse the route – 22 minutes (at a stroll)
Number of people it takes to FILL the entire route – ~150,000 to 210,000 (depending on density)
Number of times that many people traverse it in the Traffic Cam – 4 or 5 times, minimum.

The estimates of 1.2 million for the ENTIRE day seem pretty accurate. That’s why the D.C. police is using that.

Justrand on September 13, 2009 at 1:42 PM
2.5 square feet per person is a *very* tight ground. Mosh pit style

Don’t get mad at me but I covered up my Hillary sticker yesterday with one that says ” America is a Republic and not a Democracy”. I’m not sure what the real agreement was for the primaries between her and obum but since I saw her say to the CFR group that she was ready to take instructions and orders from them, I lost my support of her. • Slim Tyranny

Sorry, the protest was not that large — don’t get me wrong, it was big, but the DC fire department estimate was 60,000 to 70,000. Not 1.5 million.

              Awesome.

So on the one hand, we have actual estimates from organizations who work these events and have experience at estimating crowd size (i.e. the DC fire department), and they put the number at 60,000 to 70,000…

And on the other hand, we have random internet person “Ferd” who has “an ability” to look at crowds and come up with estimates.

              Suuuuuuure.

Look, you’re an angry, name-caller, I get that. Try to raise the discussion level a little, though? Just try it, it won’t hurt you to engage like an intelligent adult with people who disagree with you. Your current approach is plain counterproductive.

              • Donna Brazile

Slimmy when you see an intelligent Obot adult, let us know.

                Stop the lickitfest!

                • Slim Tyranny

hahaha Seriously, awesome work swooping in with insults designed by a four year old.

You should be so proud of yourself ;)

                  • Donna Brazile

Slimmy I am! I’m insulting my five year old brother! Did I say lickfest? My bad, I meant lapfest!

                    Stop the lapitupfest!

                    • Ferd Berfle

                      You go, Donna!

                    • Donna Brazile

Ferd keep it up and give’em h_ ll.

                      Don’t stop the slayerfest!

                    • jwrjr

Insults on a 5-yr old level will be over Slimy O’Tyranny’s head.

                    • Donna Brazile

                      ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!

                • TeakWoodKite

So I look at the poster list and its not even a choice.

Slim, you should have gotten off at 59th street, this is the express.

Donna and Ferd, Slim does a great impression of “Are you my Mother?”, doen’t he?

It is the story about a mother bird who knows her egg will be in her nest where she left it(until BO showed up), so she leaves him (Slim)alone to go and get something for him to eat(food stamps in hand). The baby bird hatches. He doesn’t understand where his mother is so he goes to look for her.

                  .

Slim, go ask BO, I am sure he will say “Yes”.

                  • Ferd Berfle

LMAO. He does do a great impersonation, teak.

Slim, you should have gotten off at 59th street, this is the express.

                    Hahahaha

              • Ferd Berfle

Got links to these incredible estimates, dink? If the number was 70,000, then That One’s inauguration drew only a handful more. Can’t have it both ways, chester.

              • Dave

“Just try it, it won’t hurt you to engage like an intelligent adult with people who disagree with you.”

I was agreeing with everything you said up to this point…fantasy=reality with these people when it suits their projections.

        • Postulate

As usual, no facts, no real rebuttal, just nonsense from you. I hope you;re retired because you sure do waste a lot of time on here massaging your ego.

          • Ferd Berfle

As usual you bots come here, take a beating and then lash out at us for calling you on your own stupidity.

See upthread, posthole. The numbers were far in excess of the 70,000. If you are unable to see that, then there is no point in further entertainment of your obviously lousy ability to judge crowd size.

You must be a glutton for punishment, pothole.

            • Postulate

Trust me, your puerile nonsense is not “a beating.” I never claimed 70k, but it’s not 1.2-2 million. Period.

              • Ferd Berfle

I never said it was 1.2-2 M, either, now did I, pothole?

You better learn to read prior to putting in your application at ACORN.

                • Postulate

Your comment, as expected, has nothing to do with anything.

                  • Ferd Berfle

It does as it concerns your inability to read. Did I ever post such numbers, troll? Answer the question or shut the f- up.

You won’t because I caught another troll parading around its invincible ignorance. Quit while you’re ahead, chump.

                    • Postulate

You do realize that the original post states 1.2 to 2 million, right? Are you aware that every comment made on this site is not directed specifically at you? Sit down and think for a minute before responding next time, you won’t make a fool of yourself.

                    • Ferd Berfle

Did I say it, stupid? Oh you so terminally dense as to be the subject of an astronomer’s life work?

A simple yes or no will suffice, you invincibly ignorant and dogmatic hammerhead.

But I’m sure you’ll continue with your flights of diversion, as directed by the voices in your head.

                    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Evidently, having actual cites and sources for the numbers is not sufficient for you. Oh well! And it’s your choice to ignore those numbers, including ones that came from the Parks and Recreation Department (1.2 Million). My experience has been that the “official” counts are often far less than the actual numbers, but still, even if they are right on the money, 1.2 million is a whole lot of people speaking out for their country. (And I’m not sure what all the agitation is abt anyway, except to annoy people. That is the standard MO, is it not? Rather than deal with facts, just hijack threads with total nonsense? At least here, people generally see through that trick.)

                    • Postulate

Here’s the simple part you don’t understand. I never attributed the 1.2-2 million number to you, as you did the 70k to me. So I am refuting the actual post, not your poorly thought out insults.

                    • Ferd Berfle

Not only are you a glutton for punishment, you can’t even keep your stories straight. Now unless you are Slum Tyranny, I never attributed the 1.2-2M to you personally. Gee, I must have caught you posting under two names. Who ever thought a bot would do that?

                      LMAO

I mean, really, are you the very best bot money can buy? I think Obamabot HQ got ripped off when they hired you. Can you tell your botmaster that we’d all like another bot, please, pustule? You are quite up to the task.

                    • Ferd Berfle

That should be, “I never attributed the 70,000 to you personally. ”

It is hard to keep the multiple-personality bots separate. Slim-this, pus-that.

                    • Postulate

Again, stop and think. I never claimed you attributed the 1.2-2 million number to me. You make no sense, and you have nothing to say.

                    • Ferd Berfle

You make no sense, and you have nothing to say

This coming from a wet-behind-the-ears troll with a penchant for punishment. There’s a basement somewhere on skid-row missing its troll and I do believe it is you. The next time you want to stir up trouble, dickweed, try staying in your own neighborhood.

                    • TeakWoodKite

                      ignore those numbers,

@Rev. Amy- What’s with the numbers thing of late?

@Ferd- I have been in a crowd of 400k and what I see is more than that. A crowd of that size is an AWESOME thing and scared the crap out of me due to the shear numbers of humans in one place. All one had to do was yell “FIRE” and the stampede would have left a path of destruction wider than a buffalo heard on a South Dakota plain.

I would like to give credit and a shout out to the DC law enforcement, as I have not heard of any violence we have witnessed that accompany BO events.

“If they bring a knife we bring a gun” Obama was out of town.

            • Slim Tyranny

I like how Ferd can conveniently sidestep the DC fire department estimate over and over again and ignore the debunked “ABC News reported 1.5 million” claim.

I also like how Ferd uses bizarre, angry insults at anyone who disagrees with him. Awesome.

              • Ferd Berfle

I sidestepped nothing, ShortSkanky. I called YOU on YOUR ability to discern crowd size.

You bots believe your Master when he says his healthcare plan will be “paid” without increasing the debt, so I am really skeptical about your ability with numbers.

And the same goes for you, pothole.

Wow, name trolling. I have been waiting for this one. The shallow-end-of-the-gene-pool trolls (right or left) are now name trolling to “prove” their point: that they are really only locusts that destroy anything and everything of value, particularly when it isn’t theirs and then move on to the next target.

Thanks, whoever you are for proving my point without me having to type a word.

      • Tammy

        Excuse me? 70,000?

Oh, yeah, THAT’S why D.C. was completely shut down.
        Highways closed.
        Train station closed.
Because the same number of people that would attend a rock concert were on the Mall.
        Uh huh. Riiiiight.

You can lie about the numbers all you want. I’ll stick with the truth.

        You can’t handle the truth.

        • Postulate

Let’s see the reports of highways and train stations shut down.

        • Slim Tyranny

What “truth” are you supposedly referencing? The DC fire department estimated 60,000-70,000. LINK:

          http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/tea-party-protesters-march-washington/story?id=8557120

There’s actual numbers, referencing the DC fire department. That link also debunks the LIE above that ABC estimated 1.5M-2M.

You’re not allowed to create your own truth, sorry.

Wrong again, Postulate pustule. It goes thusly:

                1. Pustule needs some Night Train
                2. Pustule gets marching orders from obamabot HQ to post at NQ for $0.05 per post
                3. Posts 20 times
                4. Gets Night Train
                5. Kills bottle
                6. Sleeps it off.

The truth is frequently predictable. But then “truth” is something you show no evidence of familiarity with.

                  • Ferd Berfle

but some of us can see right through you.

Oh, you mean like you saw through That One? Keep on coming here where you’re not wanted, displaying your lack of intelligence, discernment, and consideration of the rights of others to not have to listen to your rubbish. I dare you. No, actually, I double-dare you.

You can’t see through anything because, unlike the regulars here who actually read, digest, and then ponder the news, you and your fellow travelers get your briefing every morning from huffpoo or one of the other thousands of web presences devoted to the unthinking, unexamined adoration of That One; then you go about your daily business of making half-hearted, half-witted attempts at converting those of us who haven’t succumbed to the mindless, monotonous droning of BOTUS. And you and your mindless pals keep doing it day after day (after day), expecting a different result even though you get the same every time. I’d say you’re insane, but then I’m not a physician just as you’re not the subject matter expert on crowd counting.

Now just who is the adolescent, troll? I’d say YOU are, so take your sophomoric drivel with you; dig a hole; put said drivel in the hole and jump in behind it.

Capital Police estimate: 1.2-2 million fool.

          • don tufts

hey bot do you know how to do math?well i do and if you take and combine the time lapse photos with the width of penn ave and then the lenght of the march route and use as controld that 1.8 people take up 1 sq meter then you figure that it took 20 min to walk the route you come up with at least 350,000.then as long as your brain hasnt melted from the stress you take the USA Today /park service map from dr utopia’s inag. and look at the pictures from the capital steps you can figure about 750,000 plus. so all abc did was ask a political hack from dc fire who only had emt’s on site and not the cops who have to do crowd control to give a estimate.which im sure they were happy to do as seeing as dc government are from the left of the party they were glad to downplay.

        • tzada

There were at least 4500 buses let in to the area to drop off 55 people per bus. This was bus travel. Many came by car, train, air. Do the math on buses alone. There were people backed up into side streets as well.

      • http://in Elizabeth

I thought the Park Service was the official arbiter of such things, and they put the estimate between 1.2-2 million ??

        According to a January 1, 2009 USA Today’s article

“If the National Mall is densely packed from Third Street to the Washington Monument, and if the area from the monument to the Lincoln Memorial has an average density, the space could contain 1.5 million people, Barna said. Average density is one person per 5 square feet. A tightly packed crowd has a density of one person per 2.5 square feet, an area slightly larger than this newspaper.”

        http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2009-01-19-crowd_N.htm

Wonder if the Metro Police had a statistical projection ? From all the estimates I’ve been reading, and it was as packed as the witnesses will attest, it certainly looks like there were over 1 million.

  • ConfusedAmerican

I can’t even believe some of the arguments on the numbers. One Crazy person said “the videos and pictures are all doctored”

Ok that actually scares me that they don’t have the brains to see that this is what happened these pictures are not wrong or wrong.

This does not say anything good for the Obama people, at least not for their brains.

    • Katmoon

Well, when you have the head of ACORN saying both videos of the organization instructing on importing and prostituting minors is doctored… they are professionals at regurgitation, original thought, not their strong suit. These are the same people that usually get eaten by the monster, when they trip and fall right in front of them screaming “where did it come from”? I am always happy the monster eats them.

  • Tammy

Does this look like thousands to you guys?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sjvc6baor8

    • Postulate

Yes. More accurately, it looks like hundreds of thousands, which is what the actual estimates are. Not 1.2 million. Not 2 million.

      • HC123

Whose actual estimates? DC cops and TV stations guess at counts, just like you and me. The Park Service wont say a peep, and neither would I given the political quagmire that breaks out every time they do put a number on an event.

Tens of thousands my ass. I have eyes. I can see, even if MSNBC and the NYT cannot. That was not 10k, or even 100k “working class whites” (aka racist rednecks).

It was somewhere around a million Americans. And they behaved very respectfully before, during and after the event (unlike a certain Inauguration, which left the place a complete mess.)

Good on ya, million racist rednecks, thanks for cleaning up.

        • Postulate

“It was somewhere around a million Americans.”

That’s what we call an opinion. You’re welcome to your opinion.

          • Ferd Berfle

And you’re welcome to leave, fratboy.

          • HC123

I judge stuff downtown by “interruption to my business” – I run a service biz in DC, I have lots of guys driving around DC each and every day.

Now of course Obamapalooza has no comparison, they shut down the entire city for that event. So call that “a zillion” people if you like. I would have no way to know because Der Leader wouldn’t allow us peons near him, it was worshippers only, pretty much all week. And they trashed the joint.

All day on 9/12 my guys were calling me asking “Hey, whats this gigantic thing going on downtown?”. And “I can’t make my 2PM appointment, I am stuck”. I loved it because I was down with a horrible headcold, and it was a nightmare of rescheduling and logistics.

So, thats what I base my “opinion” on.

The mall dwarfs 70K people, its just not even a factor. There are routinely “tens of thousands” of tourists eating icecream down there. So for the news to use “tens of thousands” is just laughable. 700K, maybe. 600, mighta been, a million, sure, Ill buy that. 2 million, seems a bit high.

            70K, not even close.

So maybe now you want to share where you get your “opinion”.

            • Ferd Berfle

I’d certainly trust your judgment before I’d trust anything coming from the city of Washington, DC, the WH, or the bot squatters who have taken up residence here. Their numbers don’t match what I saw in the traffic camera.

              • HC123

I was curious because there are always a ton of tourists on the mall. But how many are there really?

                So I googled:

15 million people visit Washington, DC annually, generating $ 5.24 billion dollar in revenues. Source: Washington, DC Convention & Tourism Center website, http://www.washington.org

15,000,000 people per year/365 days per year = 41095 tourist per day.

So yeah, “tens of thousands” of people running around on the mall is not even something one would notice. Its a big place, come see it sometime.

So the number “70k” is yet another lie, and not even a good one.

I really have nothing invested in the exact number – it was a big event and everyone knows it.

But the fact that the media and powers that be cannot even come up with good lies is starting to bother me.

                • Onofre’s arm

Saint Peter’s square at the Vatican is a little under 7 acres (300,000 square ft) and has a capacity of 400,000 people, and is filled to capacity on a regular basis.

The mall in DC is over 300 acres, 43.56 times the size of St. Pete’s. Using these figures, it is not inconceivable that 17.4 million people could fit in the mall. This is not likely, but even if only 1/10th of the mall were filled, that would indicate about 1.7 million people. Looking at some of the pictures of the tea party, I think it would be safe to say that the mall was at LEAST 1/10th full, if not more.

              • Ferd Berfle

Excellent breakdown, HRC123 and thanks for the information.

                • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Well said, HC123. It’s the media’s attempt to downplay the number of people who are upset at the direction our government is taking that bothers me. And the insistence that it’s ONLY Conservatives. What a load of hooey. They don’t want to admit that not everyone, liberals included, are not enamored with “The One.”

You know, they are SUPPOSED to be objective – that’s what really gets me. Those days, sadly, are long gone…

        • ConfusedAmerican

Look at the pictures of Obama’s inauguration.
          Looks almost the same…????
          Strange

          • Ferd Berfle

For sure. So either That One only had about 70000 or the numbers yesterday were far greater. That’s the thing about obamabots–they don’t have the savvy to actually think about what they’re posting. No, like all good paid stooges, they repeat the same lines until they get their next briefing and PowerPoint presentation from the bot of the day. I do hope they continue to come here and weaken their master every time they post. It’s a good thing. Now if we could only get a few with an IQ that is actually measured in more than single digits.

Am I the only one that feels that is a bit on the spooky side.

Rev. Amy…when was the last time a gathering of this size occurred in DC?

I am thinking when the “Immigration Reform” bill came up?

I keep getting the thought that after the 8 years of compression of the middle class and the subsequent release last november, the middle class pendulium is swing back to the center with a vengence. The big difference is that the parties are in their twilight and unless they re-tool they will be part of history.

As to the numbers, it was apparent that prior to yesterday the MSM was downplaying hard and fast if it even was up for disscusion. Nothing like pereverted MSM getting caught with thier pants down.

Just remember Bo SAID “he won’t wate his time” on 1.2 million people (+ or -)

Love the music…reminded of the scene from band of brothers String Quartet in C-Sharp Minor Op. 131

    • Ferd Berfle

As to the numbers, it was apparent that prior to yesterday the MSM was downplaying hard and fast if it even was up for disscusion.

Yeah, Teak, that’s why the drones left the hive in droves to play down the numbers. Too bad that by so doing they’re going to have to revise That One’s numbers for the inauguration to have any credibility whatsoever. What am I saying? Bots don’t care about such trifles as credibility. Mea culpa.

      • TeakWoodKite

What I puzzle after is at what point does this growing dis-content become immune to being co-op’ed?

The density of mass at which the Alinsky in BO is made to understand, Americans are not a waste of time, regardless of contrary belief.

Over a million people show up to let thier views be known and BO is SOOO un-invited by his own hand. There is only one thing that says.

Even when I utterly disagree and view him in contempt of his own words, I would have liked to see him speak to those people present. Instead he mistakes us for Auqalung.
This is a very subtle message to those who could not attend, but watched, when it is contrasted with BO’s “Get out of Dodge” speech in the great state of Min. (the 53rd state, not to be confused with Minnesota, the 32nd)

        POTUS is AWOL.

        • Ferd Berfle

I’m not entirely sure but it must have something to do with the fact that they are in denial. This can’t be happening to us since we’re the ones we’ve been waiting for and other such hogwash. They believed it then, believe it now, and will continue to believe. Such is the power of myth.

  • ConfusedAmerican

Will we ever know the true number, I have a feeling not.
Does it really matter to me. NO!
To me it was the fact that many showed up to voice an opinion that has been needed. To me this means that many Americans have woken up to government corruption.
To me it means that people are tired enough to want to get rid of government corruption.

I’m not worried anymore. Yesterdays’ rally and the media’s reaction has shown me that we proved a lot more than most realize.

For all the people that did go I THANK YOU.

  • kgirl1028

Stupid question, but why would the UKdaily mail quote the 1.5 to 2 million number if it wasn’t true? What do they have to gain? On the other hand you have NBC who’s parent company is trying to get it’s grubby little hands on more of our cash for green job and healthy magination. THen there’s MSNBC who has tingles running up it’s leg and cut and splices black people cariyng guns and then calling them racistABC who has anchors and journalist who burst in tears because they were cool enough to elect an “african American president. CNN who even Robert Gibs Slammed for misreporting a coast guard drill as an attack against the US and is Obama safe, oh dear., and then there’s CBS who likes to cut and sliice interviews to make people look dumb. I won’t e ven bothered to bring up the Huff Po or Kos, but let’s just say I wouldn’t be leave a group of elitest who belives that Obama craps gold just because he graducated from harvard. I don’t know how many people were there but what i know for sure is that i would not believe a damn anything an Obama supporter says. Right now if an obamacrat told me the mid day sky was blue I would look for my damn self, cause it might just be magenta. One day obots yo uare going to need me to believe you, and i won’t. And hell I might know you are telling the truth, but i am spiteful enough to relish in your distruction, cause incase you haven’t noticed. Obama is about power, and the more crap you let him get away with the bolder he becomes. It reminds me of parents who think it’s cute when their children slap you and laugh, only to have that same child beat the crap out of them. Keep enabling a tyrant and when you look up their will be no one to help you when you scream, because i plan on enjoying it when Obama turns on you. Obmaa is only eight months into a four year term and i’m getting to the place where i can’t wait to see what he does next, because deep in my heart, I know majoirty of his diehard supporters are going to be some of the first ones to get screwed. Even in the dead of a mild southern winter with no heat, because ican’t afford it. I will feel a warm glow becuse i will knowing that Slim Tyranny is some where freezing his ass off as well. Oh happy day.

You are right. He uses then tosses and goes on to the next favorite shade. He will use the black panther and union thugs first. Then he will turn lose the thousands he is bringing in from Africa. Types like the Somalia pirates and the “Black Hawk Down”. And the type or maybe even Ordinga supporters from Kenya. And the Hutu who murded the Tutsis in Rwanda’s genocide.

Another Marxist who has been given the power to heavily influence Obama’s FCC is Diversity chief (he appears to be tasked with getting rid of conservative talk radio) and ObamaCzar Mark Lloyd. This is the same Lloyd who talked–just short of glowingly–about the Hutu’s use of Rwanda’s State-run media to affect genocide of the Tutsis!

I was there. It was impossible to see all the people at once, so no ONE camera position would work. People were as close as possible to the Capitol, but bulged down side streets. I marched from Freedom Square, but when we got to the Capitol it was already full with people. That was at 10 am. More showed up as starting times of 11 am and 1pm were quoted to me. Many rode buses overnight and were going back the same day. On Friday touring the Mall, it was impossible to be out of site of folks wearing patriotic-9/12 type of T-shirts.

The mall itself from 7th Street West was being used by the “Black Family Reunion” It is a great place to stage your next family reunion. The 9/12 organizers had tried to get the mall but these folks already had it.

On the DC Fire Dept twitter account (http://twitter.com/dcfireems), they have a number you can call that serves as an interface with the dept and the media. That number (202 673 3700) goes to a recorded message that is updated throughout the day with info regarding the various incidents the dept dealt with that day.

At the end of the message, however, another number (240 372 3749) is given to contact someone if there are further questions and you want to talk to someone.

After all on the contradictory reports on this matter, a call was made directly to the number to talk to someone in person. (With the way the media is these days, at some point, you just have to start looking for information yourself). The public information officer answered, the same guy whose voice is heard on the general recorded line.

An inquiry was made about the numbers being reported in the media and being attributed to his fire department,

They are saying that their numbers are unofficial, and that by no means can they say for sure how many people were there. In fact, for many years they would not even give estimates and only recently has the dept started to do such things. Further, when they made their estimate, it was caveated as unofficial (this much you can see on the twitter account also), but for some reason, there is no mention of that when it is repeated by the media. Additionally, the number reported was not intended to be a precise count, instead, it was from where he was at and what he could see, at a particular time of the day.

In this particular instance, the numbers that the media is circulating was around 12 o clock, and was of the area visible to where he was at the time, near Freedom Plaza (IIRC, it was Freedom something, that part was hard to hear on the phone). Also, later in the day, it seemed that there was likely well more than the 75,000 estimate from where he was at during midday.

The thought occurred to record the conversation and put it on youtube, thus allowing people to hear the source material, but the officer was told a citizen was calling, and it might not have been polite to record a conversation and then put it on blast in such a manner. There is a time and a place for forcing a crucible for the truth, but generally better to play honestly and by the up and up, IMHO.

Still, the guy does talk to the media as that is his role as the media contact person for the department. Apparently, as it was understood, only the WSJ bothered to call later and inquire whether the unofficial numbers would even be updated to official.

This information however remains omitted, and instead unofficial statistics are used for the purposes of zeitgeist manipulation.

What we need I think is for media outlets to double check on what others in the media is reporting, and if there are inconsistencies, then put the correct information out there and let people judge for themselves.

Oh, wait – I know – they were just creating jobs – that’s the ticket! Ahem.

  • Testing

So who’s got an ‘official’ link showing the estimates at 1.2-2 million?

  • checkagain charlie

wow. even fox news won’t propagate the 2million lie and reports “tens of thousands”. is this wnd or noquarter? i guess everything’s a mouthpiece now. is it at all helpufl to check one’s own facts before writing a lenghty piece of propaganda like this? let’s hold ourselves and the blogs we read to the same standards we’d like to hold the msm.

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I appreciate your concern, but the use of the phrase, “tens of thousands,” is clearly intended to minimize the number of people who attended. Fox News pointed out this attempt – so yes, they may have used the phrase “tens of thousands” in their article the other day, but this morning, they made it quite clear that the numbers were very high indeed.

If you have ever been in a sports stadium, like, say, Yankee stadium, and have seen it full to capacity, it is evident from all of the photos that there were way more people than the MSM are indicating. Like I said, both the Times and the Post are almost IDENTICAL in how they open their stories – using the “tens of thousands” meme. Ridiculous.

Or you could just read some of the eyewitness accounts above.

Btw, I most definitely check my sources – that’s why there are at least FOUR of them cited above. But thanks for the gratuitous insult. A propagandist I am not. Perhaps you’re thinking of DailyKos or Huffpo?

The point, and I did have one, is the minimization of the numbers by the MSM. With sources to back up that contention, I might add. But thanks for playing.

      • Ferd Berfle

I, too, have been to large stadia. The number 70K referenced by the MSM is laughable. Do they actually think anyone following any sporting event wouldn’t know the difference between 70K and 700K?

The MSM urinates on our legs, all the while insisting that it’s raining.

        • Postulate

The number 70k referenced by the media is from the DC FIRE DEPARTMENT. They are accurately reporting an estimate put out by the DC FIRE DEPARTMENT. Is the DC FIRE DEPARMTNET pissing on your leg? Or are you so deperate for a lame “liberal MSM” talking point that you’re willing to totally ignore facts? Wait, I know the answer to this one already.

          • Fifth Dimension

I noted the number to call the DC fire dept and ask them yourself regarding the 75,000 number. They themselves are saying that later in the day it was well over that, but that the news media didn’t bother to check in with them after the initial estimate, which was of from where the person could see at the time.

Feel free to call them, moron.

Pustule, are you still here bothering people? No one cares about what the voices in your head are saying.

      • Real American Patriot

        Dear Ferd Berfle-

        Fitting.

“Name calling is both a logical fallacy and cognitive bias, and a technique to promote propaganda. Propagandists use the name-calling technique to incite fears and arouse prejudices with the intent that invoked fear based on fearmongering tactics will encourage those that read, see or hear propaganda to construct a negative opinion about a person, group, or set of beliefs or ideas that the propagandist would wish the recipients to denounce. The method is intended to provoke conclusions and actions about a matter apart from an impartial examinations of the facts of the matter. When employed, name-calling is thus a substitute for rational, fact-based arguments against an idea or belief, based upon its own merits.”

    • Real American Patriot

“Too bad the Washington Post couldn’t get the “official estimate” – it was available, but hey – why bother with the facts when it is so much easier to just guess and minimize?”

The irony that your “the facts”, as it turns out, came from the event organizer who got it from twitter and erroneously attributed it to ABC is not lost on those of us who are sane.

Just because information becomes available doesn’t make them facts.

I live near DC and had a relative traveling there that day (for other reasons) who had no trouble getting a last minute hotel reservation, traveled on the metro with no problems or waiting, and said the city certainly didn’t seem like a BIG rally was going on — say like an inauguration day or an anti-war protest.

  • Fifth Dimension

Will the Obots in this thread actually read my post about the DC Fire Dept before making an ass of themselves? Don’t believe us here? Fine. The phone number to call and ask them directly about the numbers is noted right there.

One wonders if even a single of them still has enough integrity and guts left to look for the truth themselves.

  • Jabiba

Freedom Works just came out and cut it’s estimate in half from 1+ million to 600,000 – 800,000.

However, living in maryland and working in DC, I have to tell you that the numbers were much, much lower than that. I was here for the immigration rally a few years ago, and it was much smaller than that. I have also been here for the Race for the Cure every year, and the numbers were much, much smaller than that.

I am not belittling the size of the crowd — it was substantial (I went down there to see it all, because I had to work that day and on my out went down to the mall on foot).

But for people to say it was 1.2 – 1.5 million, or even 500,000+, well, it’s just silly.

    GO HILLARY!!!
