It Is Hard Out There For A (ACORN) Pimp…**UPDATED**

Surprise, surprise – the Senate has FINALLY grown a backbone, and voted 83-7 (and this is not a big surprise – both senators from IL voted against this measure, as well as Hillary Clinton’s replacement – a disappointment) to cut off Housing funds to ACORN. It took the exposure of how ACORN works by two young people who posed as a pimp and a prostitute, two people who took it upon themselves to be true investigative journalists, who demonstrated just how ACORN truly operates. Thus far, they have released three different videos of their undercover work in DC, Baltimore, and Brooklyn (and there may be another video forthcoming). Since their exposes, at long last, the organization which has received $53 million of our tax dollars, and which stands to get billions in the current stimulus bill, is getting some comeuppance:

The House still has to vote on cutting housing Funds to ACORN.

Fox News has a poll HERE asking if ACORN’s funds should be frozen.

And, as a result of these videos referenced above, the Census Bureau will NOT be using ACORN in 2010. That is huge – given the number of investigations and guilty pleas regarding voter fraud, it is shocking that they were ever even going to be a part of the 2010 Census in the first place, but that’s politics, apparently.

Stay tuned for the House vote on freezing HUD funds to ACORN. We’ll see if they do what’s right, or what’s political.

UPDATE: American Girl in Italy gave me a heads up on this article, “House GOP To Call For Total Cutoff Of Federal Funds To ACORN,” which states:

Today House Republicans will introduce a bill that would end all federal funding to ACORN and its affiliates. Republicans are also sending a letter to President Obama on the same subject.

The action comes after the release, on the website BigGovernment, of three undercover videos showing ACORN employees in Baltimore, Washington DC, and New York City offering advice on how to evade taxes, cover up prostitution activity, and abet the use of minors in prostitution. In the wake of those disclosures, the U.S. Census cut its ties with ACORN, and yesterday the Senate voted 83-7 to cut off housing funds for the organization.

House Republicans point out that they have long pushed for a cutoff in government funding for ACORN. Republican leader John Boehner last year sent a letter to President Bush asking for the defunding of ACORN. There is already Republican legislation calling for the total cutoff of Housing and Urban Development Department funds to ACORN, and Rep. Darrell Issa, the ranking Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, took a leading role in pushing for the Census Bureau decision.

Wow. Should be an interesting time in the House! Stay tuned!

Stay tuned for the House vote on freezing HUD funds to ACORN. We’ll see if they do what’s right, or what’s political.

Frau Nancy will be all over making sure they don’t do anything for the wrong reasons… i.e. the right reason. Then again trying to keep a coalition between the two parties… new democrat and democrat may turn out to be her Eastern front. The battle may ultimately be lost to attrition. We can only hope pray.

  • Aaron Kramer

Beck said a fourth video from California is coming out tonight, this should be interesting. I am blown away by the fact that the MSM has yet to cover any of this. WTF!

  • foxx

    A great start.

Acorn also gets stimulus funds, and there may be other sources of government funding.

WE’ve a ways to go, house must pass bill. Bill must be signed AND implemented. WE’ll see how it shakes out in the end.

  • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

Considering it is ACORN that is responsible for the caucus fraud that took the rightful nomination away from Hillary…can I just say…HURRAH!!!!

THE LAW OF KARMA IN ACTION!

So good to see these bad people going down!

  • Kim

I know that it’s probably a pipe dream, but I hope to see the total destruction of ACORN.

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Right there with ya. This is such a corrupt organization, that it easily negates the good work it does.

  • Katmoon

We are trying and that is part of it; the public being aware, and screaming about it. One would think with all the news of young woman and children being abducted and either murdered, held in sexual slavery or abused and lost into the ugly world of prostitution, this would really matter to those on Capitol Hill; they better get this done or we may have cause to issue an “ACORN” alert,(meaning no disrespect to the name of the current system in place- the “Amber” Alert). Rather a very real jab at those who would condone this behavior by silence or complicity.

  • Docelder

The good works are just a trojan horse to carry the water for the rest of the activities. The Red Cross they aren’t.

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Excellent question, Aaron. Where are they indeed?

And Hillary or Bust, you said it!

  • elizabethrc

Will Obama issue an Executive Order nullifying a congressional vote to cut off funds for Acorn?
    Can he do that?
What would be the repercussions if he tried it?
Does this Congress have the backbone to overide a veto?
What can the American people do if he tries this stunt?
I think we need to be prepared against the possibility of the above.

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

True that, Docelder. As I have said, the problems with ACORN are systemic – no doubt abt it. There may be some people who think they are doing good work, and who are unaware of the more unsavory side of ACORN. At least I sure hope so…

  • Docelder

    Can he do that?

He could ask ACORN’s lawyer… wait, he was ACORN’s lawyer. ;)

  • carolhaka

No one needs to be paid to go out and register voters. There is a post office in every neighborhood. If you are too stupid or lazy to go sign up, then, too bad.

Additionally, any realtor or banker can assist someone looking for assistance with housing. No need for paid personnel and overhead.

I used to work in the tobbacco area in a drug store while going to college. I was in a poor part of town. People came in to buy their prescriptions and some food items with food stamps. Then, some would proceed to the caged area to purchase alcohol with cash. Next stop, my area for cigars, cigarettes, poker chips, dice, playing cards and sometimes, candy bars for the kids all paid for with cash.

If you can navigate your way through these mazed areas in the store, you can find the post office and a realtor.

Enough with the wasted money for thieves.

Spend the money to improve the schools and neighborhoods. Open a grocery store, bowling alley, skating rink, movie theatres ………………. things that open the opportunity for work and appropriate behavior.

The good work is just a smoke screen and a way to rally well meaning individuals. The heart of ACORN is, and always has been, a corrupt cash cow for the Rathkes and their buddies, and they in turn supply strong arm influence in the political realm to ensure the elections of radical leftists.

For instance, Dale Rathke (brother of Wade Rathke, founder of ACORN) embezzeled one million dollars from the ACORN coffers. Drummond Pike, the wealthy leftist activist that is the founder and president of the Tides foundation, (a money laundering outfit for all sorts of extremely leftist groups) repaid the money to ACORN so that Rathke was never charged with the crime, and Rathke essentially kept the money. Sweet! It is quite simply a way for a wealthy man to indirectly put $1,000,000 in his buddy’s pocket and write it off as a donation to ACORN.

  • helenk

I wrote this yesterday on another site.
Isn’t funny how when this was made public Congress finally got a spine.

Isn’t one of the Radthke brothers connected to SEIU? I’m pretty sure I heard Glenn Beck say that the other day when these videos surfaced. That would explain a lot, too, wouldn’t it? (You may recall that SEIU held CA over a barrel when they were trying to deal with their deficit recently. SEIU refused to have their funds cut at ALL, and got Obama to say CA wouldn’t get federal funds if SEIU had to pay anything. Good to have a friend in the WH, I guess!)

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

No to answer my own question or anything, but Wade Rathke FOUNDED SEIU. Wowie zowie. That makes so much sense to me now…

  • susan h

I would be very surprised if Obama did that. I wonder if ACORN will soon be thrown under the bus by Obama. “He really didn’t know them that well when he was in their employ as a community organizer”….I just emailed my two IL senators, Durbin and Burris, to let them know they work for the people of Illinois and the American people, and not directly for Obama, as they voted against stopping funding to ACORN. I am sure I will not hear from either one of them very soon.

  • Docelder

In an odd twist, if Maryland tries to prosecute the two undercover filmmakers, then the media will have to cover it. But maybe after today, they will have to cover it anyway.

  • tango

I know. Did you hear the silence after Barnicle made his comment (paraphrasing) that if some reporters were good, they’d do some research and see how many home foreclosures occured that had home loans handled/originated by ACORN. He thought the number would be pretty high.

Wow, Mike Barnicle made a point that wasn’t complimentary to ACORN and pretty much reinforced that they were giving loans to people who weren’t qualified and ultimately defaulated! Joe, Mika, Arianna Huffington (gag) just sat in stunned silence for about 2 seconds it seemed before moving on.

  • tango

Oh geez, this is what BigGovernment is reporting:

“Last week, we saw some pretty disturbing activities revealed in the undercover footage from ACORN Housing’s Baltimore office. By any measure of conduct, the actions of ACORN’s employees should never have happened. It turns out the actions shouldn’t have happened for another, very simple, reason: ACORN can’t legally operate in the state of Maryland.

According to the following documents, ACORN, Inc.–the parent organization of all things ACORN–forfeited its corporate charter in Maryland in 2006. ACORN Housing forfeited its corporate charter in 2008. Any ACORN office in the state of Maryland is potentially operating illegally.

The Maryland Attorney General has made noise about prosecuting the intrepid journalists who undercovered the misdeeds of ACORN employees. Perhaps he should focus instead on how ACORN was able to operate without a license in his state.”

You sound surprised! I’m not, I’ve been aware for some time of the huge web of graft and corruption that links ALL of the players, from Obama to the ladies in the Baltimore ACORN office, to a broad criminal network that is operating just below the surface. If you are curious why the MSM hasn’t been more vigorous in exposing it, it’s because THEY’RE PART OF IT!

James O’Keefe and Hanna Giles (American heroes of the first order)just knocked a small chip off the tip of the iceberg. They have single handedly exposed a story that the MSM has intentionally turned a blind eye toward. Until now, anyone attempting to explain this permeating nightmare, and anyone sounding the alarm bell, have been classified as conspiracy kooks, or worse; the reality of this situation is so unbelievable, it’s been difficult to explain with credibility. But as millions of people stared at these ACORN videos with jaw dropping, stunned amazement and outrage, the door has been opened to let the rest of the truth in.

    Worst Acorn video yet

If you didn’t think ACORN could get any worse after several of their employees (in multiple locations) tried to help a prostitute buy a house, lie to the IRS and run a brothel with underage hookers from El Salvador…you were wrong. It gets much worse. In today’s tapes, this ACORN employee gives away the farm — she names names of politicians she talks to each day, plus what bills they are lobbying heavily for (with taxpayer money). Oh, this Acorn employee is also a former hooker herself, who (in this audio tape) admits to killing her abusive husband. Your tax dollars hard at work!

I`m betting Boxer is one of them.

You are correct, OA – Big Government should know that. Perhaps it was just a typo. And yes, she was threatening the two who exposed ACORN in MD. I just meant that if they are operating illegally, that adds a whole other level to all of this. AND, if they are not properly licensed, how are they receiving fed. funds?

  • hokma

I find it astonishing that two young people who are not professional journalists did this while the mainstream journalists ignored the story.

If there was ever any proof that journalism – particularly Jack Anderson type investigative reporting – is dead, this is it.

Dan Rather-not is fretting over the death of newspapers. If he wants to know why people are not inclined to buy newspapers (and therefore advertisers not buy ad space there) then this story is the answer.

This ACORN story is much larger than what these two kids uncovered and goes right to the Oval Office.

She not only admits to killing her husband, she admits to setting up the premise that she shot him in self defense. She claims to have intentionally gone to abused women shelters and called 911 to establish that her husband was abusive. She claimed to have shot him dead, not because he was abusing her at the time, but because she KNEW he was GOING to, after she said “F you” to the guy. I was saddened to hear about the abrupt ending to their marriage, they seemed to deserve each other.

As bad as abusive men can be, they can be helped, unless they’ve been shot dead. Jeez, just get a divorce lady. But, planning, setting up, and carrying out a justifiable homicide might just be a nice example of self-motivation, and it might look good on a resume submitted to ACORN.

Onofre. What is so exasperating to me is that these Acorn people with their schemes to get houses for any and everyone whether they could pay or not are the prime reason for the tanking of the economy. They perpetuated mortgage fraud in which they earned money for themselves. We had to pay for the bailouts of the financial institutions. We will still have to pay more in the future . NO ONE SEEMS TO MAKE THE CONNECTION. THE “PIMP” AND “PROSTITUTE” CAME TO THEM TO GET A MORTGAGE FOR A HOUSE!!!!!!!!WAKE UP PEOPLE AND GET THE CONNECTION BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

  • Wisewoman

As I have said no one seems to get the connection that these are the people who were most responsible for the bottom falling out of the economy and people losing more than half of their 401Ks and other financial value. They caused this by the housing crisis through false lending to any and everyone whether they could pay or not. they got a cut of the action. WAKE UP. THE REASON THE “PIMP & PROSTITUTE CAME TO THEM WAS FOR THEM TO FRAUDENTLY HELP THEM GET FINANCING FOR A HOUSE!!

Oregon NOW has a statement about ACORN on its web page. http://www.oregonnow.org

  • Onofre’s arm

Actually Wisewoman, I made that very point several ACORN threads back. Our abyssmal economy is intricately linked to the kind of mischief conducted by corrupt entities like ACORN. I also wondered how much the defaulting of the countless houses that were illegally acquired with ACORN help, contributed to the collapse of Fannie, Freddie, and AIG. The collapse that was started in these entities dragged the rest of our economy down in a cascading effect. Institutional deceit, fraud, and corruption can have a powerful impact when magnified through a nationwide network like ACORN.
