yep….words, just words

Flopping Aces had a great post up this week about Obama’s empty words and dare I say, lies. It really points out how empty Obama’s promises were/are when it comes to bipartisanship, and the truth about what is going on in Washington.

Congressmen Took Obama At His Word Over Invite to Review Health Bill “Line by Line”

Yet calls and letters go unanswered!

President Obama issued the following invitation at a Town Hall meeting he held in July in Raleigh, NC (White House transcript):

So I just want everybody to know, Congress will have time to read the bill. They will have time to debate the bill. They will have all of August to review the various legislative proposals. When we come back in September, I will be available to answer any question that members of Congress have. If they want to come over to the White House and go over line by line what’s going on, I will be happy to do that.

The next day Congressman Phil Roe (R-TN) wrote the President accepting his invitation. His letter is here. No word came back from the White House so Roe sent a second letter in early September. Two weeks after that second letter, still no response from the President who claimed he would be “happy” to sit down and go over the bill.

Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-Texas), chair of the Congressional Health Care Caucus. has also written twice noting in his second letter that the President stated in his speech before Congress last week that “My door is always open.”

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) has also written multiple times with no response. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) also indicated his willingness to review the health bills “line by line” with the President.

Continue reading the post, and the funny finish here.

Here are a few quips pulled from Obama’s speech to Congress last week:

“But what we have also seen in these last months is the same partisan spectacle that only hardens the disdain many Americans have toward their own government. Instead of honest debate, we have seen scare tactics. Some have dug into unyielding ideological camps that offer no hope of compromise. Too many have used this as an opportunity to score short-term political points, even if it robs the country of our opportunity to solve a long-term challenge. And out of this blizzard of charges and counter-charges, confusion has reigned.

Well the time for bickering is over. The time for games has passed. Now is the season for action. Now is when we must bring the best ideas of both parties together, and show the American people that we can still do what we were sent here to do. Now is the time to deliver on health care….

This is the plan I’m proposing. It’s a plan that incorporates ideas from many of the people in this room tonight – Democrats and Republicans. And I will continue to seek common ground in the weeks ahead. If you come to me with a serious set of proposals, I will be there to listen. My door is always open.”

Then we have this gem from Hot Air:

In this clip from Naked Emperor News and Breitbart TV, Obama explains that any health-care overhaul will require $100 billion a year in new spending, for which Obama would push new taxes as a funding mechanism. Cutting red tape and “profits” out of the existing system would not be enough to fund a transition to a new system. Medicare and Medicaid, he warns, get used by politicians to manipulate budgets at the expense of health-care providers.

Do you all remember when the media and Obama supporters POUNCED on Hillary for telling the story of Trina Bachtel? They accused her of lying, even though she wasn’t?

Well, looks like Obama has been telling a big fib, himself. I wonder when he is going to get called out by the MSM as a liar?

From HotAir: It’s not the only myth that Obama’s been spreading lately, either:

Obama’s Real-Person Health Care Story Not That Real

After I raised questions about its accuracy, President Obama has dropped from his last two health care speeches an inaccurate reference he made about the health care travails of an Illinois man, whom Obama claimed had died after his insurance company declined to pay for his cancer treatments.

When Obama spoke to Congress about health care reform on Sept. 9, he attempted to put a human face on his push for a provision barring insurance companies from dropping patients with pre-existing medical conditions.

While not citing the person’s name, the president said: “One man from Illinois lost his coverage in the middle of chemotherapy because his insurer found that he hadn’t reported gallstones that he didn’t even know about. They delayed his treatment, and he died because of it.”

It’s just not true, which I pointed out in my Chicago Sun-Times column. I confirmed with the White House that the man Obama was referring to was Otto Raddatz, from a Chicago suburb. His insurance company did indeed yank his coverage in April 2005. But after a fight led by his sister, Peggy, an attorney and the Illinois attorney general, Raddatz got his coverage reinstated in a few weeks and never missed any needed treatments. And he did not die until Jan. 6, 2009.

How did Obama research this anecdote? He read it in Slate, and no one on his staff checked to see if the story was accurate. It’s precisely this kind of expertise that Obama wants to put in charge of your health care.

And is he really misrepresenting a story about his own daughter, for political purposes?

Can you blame Joe Wilson?

Words…just words.

Sorry, AGiI, I just got too excited when I answered your question. Great Post!

        good answer!

I just saw a video of Wilson getting choked up talking about this. It is very damaging to call someone a racist, and he is very upset. I feel bad for him.

  • Hank

And this is supposed to surprise us. Fox needs to call him out on his lies.

Wilson made a mistake calling out the President at a joint Congressional session. It was bad form, period. But he apologized and the Administration “presumably” accepted that apology, graciously, according to Wilson. But, of course, the Pelosi House couldn’t let it go and insisted on a formal rebuke and all matter of race-baiting for good measure.

It wasn’t what Wilson said. The “you lie” callout was not so different from what many of us here feel as each day, week and month go by. If the progs were honest with themselves, even they are realizing what they thought the “blank slate” was turned out to be a figment of their imaginations.

I don’t know what sort of man Wilson is in private but he lost his cool, he apologized and it should be over.

But of course, it isn’t. The charge of racism against him is now being applied to each and every one of us for our doubts, our criticism and our plain disagreement with Obama’s faltering, ever-changing policies.

And to call that racism? It’s UnAmerican, no different than when McCarthy was labeling people communists back in the day.

I hate what the Democratic Party is doing. I’ve been a Dem all my life, but if the party destroys itself, I will not weep. In fact, I had it with both parties!

    • http://sarainitalyblog.blogspot.com/ American Girl in Italy

What I find stunning (/snark) are all the letters Republicans have written to Obama, accepting his invitation to go thru the bill line by line, and he has ignored them all!

Also, his getting his daughters health story wrong…

And after the way people attacked Hillary over that health story she told, but Obama gets a free pass apparently on his made up health scare stories.

      *sigh*

      • PainkillerJayne

Barry exaggerates on a lot of stories……and has never really been called on any of them.

  • http://noquarter foxyladi14

    thats a lot of amendments.

  • lizzy

Along with many others, I can’t watch or listen to Obama. Everything he says is manipulation and lies. I thought that there should have been no one left in the chamber by the end of his disembling speech. As for the charge of racism; I have embraced it. I refuse to be manipulated by constant unfounded allegations of racism. Call me a racist, lose my support.

  • lizzy

I just made a comment that seems to have been eaten. Could someone check for it?

    Nice work American Girl!
Phil Roe is my representative, and is a retired OB-GYN physician.
He has been quoted many times about his willingness to meet with Obama, and I believe he is very sincere!
I saw one report concerning Rep. Clyburn’s grudge against Rep. Wilson.
One of Clyburn’s grievances was that Wilson held a town hall in the high school that Clyburn’s children had attended. How damned petty can grown men be? So territorial!
There may have been a few republicans(racists) who had questions! Not on Clyburn’s turf though!

  • snowhite

Clyburn is a racist.I remember him ordering Hillary to drop out of the presidential campaign and getting ugly mean about it when she did not jump to his orders.I also read today where he voted to keep funding the Acorns—-how obvious he is.

Found this on Wikipedia under Big Lie:

Big Lie is a propaganda technique in which the lie is so complex that the public will either dismiss it as impossible or choose not to believe it out of willful ignorance. It was defined by Adolf Hitler in his 1925 autobiography Mein Kampf as a lie so “colossal” that no one would believe that someone “could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously”.

    Used in Hitler’s psychological profile

The phrase was also used in a report prepared during the war by the United States Office of Strategic Services in describing Hitler’s psychological profile:[2]

His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.[3]

Wonder who has a similar profile and is mastering the art of the Big Lie(which, incidentally, has been used by Nazi Germany)?

Your guess is as good as mine.
