Less than one second. That’s how long it took Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to answer, “Of course not,” to Steve Kroft’s question on 60 Minutes about whether she thought Sen. Barack Obama was a Muslim. You can time it yourself by watching the clip at YouTube.

Still, that didn’t stop MSNBC’s Chris Matthews from complaining on-air last week that it took Clinton “the longest time” to answer Kroft’s question.

Lots of eager, tsk-tsking pundits and reporters agreed. They said Clinton was guilty of “hemming and hawing” in response to Kroft’s peculiar, repeated insistence that she make some sort of declarative statement about her opponents religious beliefs. And then when she did, Kroft asked that she do it again. That’s when Clinton, looking befuddled by the multiple requests, added some qualifiers to her response, including “as far as I know.” What stood out in the exchange was not Clinton’s responses, but Kroft’s weird persistence in asking a question that Clinton addressed unequivocally the first time, as though he was trying to draw out something she was not saying. Even more peculiar was Kroft’s obsession with the Muslim question amid a 60 Minutes report that was about Ohio’s shrinking working class and what Clinton and Obama were going to do to try stop of the overseas flow of U.S. manufacturing jobs. (Note to Kroft and the rest of the media: Obama is not a Muslim; Clinton knows Obama is not a Muslim; Clinton does not believe Obama is a Muslim. Clinton made this very clear.)

Before our state’s primary, Hillary for President yard signs were stolen and/or mutilated on a regular basis. The local campaign chairman finally gave up and stopped replacing them. A few years ago a number of cars (including mine) in my neighborhood were spray-painted with messages about Blacks, Jews, sexual preference, sexual functions, excretory functions, and others. The kids were eventually caught and they were required to pay for the damage. It didn’t even make the local news. But it makes national news if one can somehow twist it to bash the Clintons or their supporters.

The problem with Tawana was that that fiasco did more to harm the credibility of women than is did black people using the race card to harm others. Al Sharpton, where is the apology or at least a sense of shame? I will never understand how Al gained any credibility from that horror. By the way, Brawley later converted to Islam and changed her name to Maryam Muhammad. Let’s hope that she’s found some peace.

This election year has really opened my eyes. We still have so far to go as a nation to heal.

We can start by stopping all this racism. I suggest that we cancel any planned debates and the campaign itself, and amend the Constitution to allow Senator Obama to take office tomorrow. In 1924 Mayor James Michael Curley of Boston was vying to become the first Catholic Governor of Massachusetts. A few weeks before the election- in which he was expected to lose, what with favorite son President Coolidge running for re-election on the top of the ticket- people began to report seeing crosses burning on hillsides in Western Mass. but seriously, my small town had vandalism incidents a few times: spray paint and tombstone tipping etc. each time it was a group of teen-age kids who were just out to be bad boyz in their drab and dreary boring lives.

They got caught each time by the local investigators. The police traced the type of spray paint and checked potential purchase point store videos. There were witnesses who saw them just driving around and gave a description of a car, etc. Hopefully they will be caught and taught that vandalism is not the least bit kewl.

Thanks for the Monty Python Grannies Gang video, I needed a good laugh. Yes, that about shows how silly they are in thinking we “older Hillary supporters” are responsible for such NUTTER acts.

And yet I saw the report on television, which said that 60 cars had been vandalized with anti-Obama messages. The inference that it was white trash HRC supporters, aka as the menopausal mafia, was clear. Kind of story that makes everyone go “Huh?” but gets their attention. The message is still received.

Over the weekend I saw McCain giving a speech carried live on CNN. The sound of his voice was thin and crackly. Now maybe CNN just isn’t professional enough to be able to provide better coverage. I happened to switch to CSpan and McCain’s voice was full and strong. This is in keeping with a tactic they’ve long used: If you can’t stop the message, i.e., we have to carry McCain once in awhile, then make sure it carries a negative connotation. They aired McCain while helping Obama by making McCain sound too old and weak to be president.
