Political Ticker: Abbi Tanton — PUMA Party Unity My Ass

CNN’s Abbi Tanton reveals the justsaynodeal coalition of PUMA voters (June 27, 2008).

  • Scully

    Eeeexcellent, Smithers.

    • Hope Floats

Could a Democrat really hate Obama that much? This must be some wicked Republican trick!

      • jwrjr

Isn’t that rather like asking if lampposts can really hate dogs that much?

        • standard

It’s a good sign when K.O. starts blasting Obama, as he did tonight.

          • Annie Oakley

It’s the end of June, 2008. If KO got around to criticizing Obama now, it’s a CYA move so that he can claim he’s Edward R Murrow. Same as when Chris Matthews decided he’d been against the war all along. Just airbrushing history.

            • Charles

Ummmm… Chris Matthews *has* been against the IRAQ war since before it began. Actually he used to make some attempts at appearing objective, but once the War was starting to come down, he gave up any pretentions of being a centrist and started coming down hard left on everything.

      • NoToDisenfranchisement

        “hope” floats:

        YES and NO.

      • Keyser

Doesn’t matter. Donna Brazile doesn’t need them anyway.

      • Dora Ratquila

Lemme rephrase that same question: How could a genuine Democrat say all those vile things about Hillary?

        B.O.W.L.+ BIG TIME IN NOVEMBER
        +Barack Obama Will Lose

        HRC – 45th POTUS (2012)

    • s. hall

Party Unity My Arse — I love that lady’s accent and I love this story.

      • Keyser

Accent? I don’t hear it. To me she’s only speaking English.

      • cc

awesome!!! cnn finally acknowledges that we exist!!! i’m a PROUD PUMA member from kcmo and we are growing nationwide!

  • Hope Floats

Ha ha. “Very creative.” I still love Wolf Blitzer.

    • Keyser

Wolf’s a dog. He’s like a dog. But with a thoughtless annoying intonation to his voice. Not much upstairs either I fear. You can pet dogs and give them treats and train them to do tricks for you.

      • beebop

Now wait a minute. As someone with a dog companion I need to step in and object to the dog bashing. It really does need to come to a halt. All of the nonsense about HOUND does not justify damning an entire specie. Dogs are wonderful creatures and certainly deserving of our love and respect. I would put my standard poodle up against most of the trolls any day of the week.

  • missE

    Say it again Abbi!

I was watching that day, just after that Cafferty said party unity my ass.

    • cc

      cafferty is an ASS

  • http://www.lezident.com Lezident

At least it doesn’t have one of the wimpy PUMA spokesmen on the report.

I’m all for Hillary and I detest Obama…BUT…

This PUMA thing is a chuckle to me but I think it’s a mistake to have used this name in public. It makes those of us who were Democrats and support Hillary and don’t like Obama look like fringe wackos. When you come up with a name like “Party Unity My Ass” as the name of the group, you look like flakes. I agree with the sentiment, but the name choice, however catchy, makes us look like those legendary Japanese soldiers from WWII who were still out in the jungles refusing to accept that the war was over for years.

    • Hope Floats

Whatever. I prefer the PC version for TV, but I think the newsmen enjoy the excuse to say “ass” on air. They are obviously jealous of Jon Stewart and his F bombs.

      • Mary Kay

I agree. I think they all just like to say ASS on TV and she sure said it really cute with her accent. ;.)))) AAASSSS

        • joeysky

Her accent made it so classy. hehehe

    • memyself&i

I thought this was a play on the symbol for the Democratic Party, the donkey. A synonym for “donkey” is “ass”.

Really doesn’t matter to me which definition people choose for the word.

    • audacity

protest and polite does not work

the PC version is annoying, expected and does not have punch ….like the owner of the blog. sounds more like some community organization that will do something in 20-40 years. or never.

with the “ass” version, the movement will get more milage, nobody is shy to say it and the audience pays attention.

and actually represents how people really feel

People united Means action …. sounds like a definition or explainetion

      and is

      SELF CENSORSHIP

      • Charles

That is a bacronym… look it up on Wikipedia!

    • flyingsongster

So now you are deciding we need to congeal with the jello people?

    • CJ

I’m in marketing and I can tell you that by using the term Party Unity My Ass, it caught the attention of the media. That title means business, it flamed a curiousity. Anything else would have taken longer to get noticed.

    • s. hall

Lezident — I love the name Party Unity My Ass. Unlike the phoney Obama and the equally phoney Democratic Party, the PUMA name shows how real Hillary Democrats feel about this campaign. I want to see the media say this over and over because the more they do — the more people will join the cause. We need to part the curtain on their bogus Unity and show the Democratic Party we are not stupid and we know that by giving the Party to Obama they have destroyed their credibility. Just saying Unity doesn’t make it so.

    • jerzyernie

PUMA ALSO STANDS FOR “PEOPLE UNITED MEANS ACTION”! BUT IT SEEM’S THE MEDIA FINDS THE OTHER PHRASE MORE CATCHY! DOESN’T MATTER TO ME THE COALITION IS GROWING EVERY DAY AND COMPARED TO MAY 31RST AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY ACTION’S AND SO MANY OBAMA LIES THE WORD ASS IS NOT THAT BAD! NO DEAL/ NOBAMA/ GO PUMA!

    • Keyser

The war isn’t over. Was the war over after Pearl Harbor? It depends what side you’re on. PUMA is a great name – people are flocking to the movement. Even Obama and MoveOn didn’t ever rack up that kind of support that fast.

    • AnninCA

The PC version just doesn’t capture the spirit. And I think the PUMA spokespeople are great.

    • Indyvoter

Except that we do count, and there is an election this year.

Bo is asking for our votes and we’re saying “no” emphatically to him and his cult. We’re not in the jungle, we’re here and we are voters.

  • uhh somehow this notion that I am qualified to be president is uhh uhh ridiculous

The name has created controversy and the cause has gained some exposure because of it.
The message needs to be heard.

    • audacity

the PC version is like ummm, ummmm, uhh, uhh …. no punch

  • Aidyn

Great Van Susteren wants to know why we are PUMAs. Please go comment on her website.
    http://gretawire.foxnews.com/2008/06/30/puma-party-unity-my-a/#comment-1302356

    • //Yahoo ALforHill

I’ve commented twice today on greta’s sight about being a PUMA member. Neither time did it get posted. Don’t know what’s up with that. Some stupid little jerk calling themselves “GIVE ME A BREAK” had no trouble posting numerous times. An OBOTOMY TROLL.

      • Aidyn

That is very weird, I had no problem posting.

    • Keyser

Greta needs to visit the Clue-O-Mat in her office corridor.

    • karen for Clinton

Just posted my response to Gretawire:

I watched the early campaigns from a distance but it wasn’t until January when I got around to finding out more about Obama for myself since there wasn’t much “meat” to his resume.

I searched the Chicago news archives, watched the early debates and did my own research on his past. Although there were plenty of rumors that were unfounded it soon became clear there were way to many REAL things that were highly disturbing about his past and I slowly developed a strong opinion that the Hope was all Hype.

He never improved, the more I learned the more I was appalled by how un-Presidential he is.

I had known Hillary all these years (as a NY’er I voted for her twice) and she not only won my vote time and time again – she blew me out of the water and made me a die-hard supporter.

So my personal combination was as Anti-Ob as it was Pro-Hill.

Although I WAS a life-long Dem since ’71 (mailed my unaffiliated form in on May 31st) who never voted Republican, I will certainly chose JS McCain over his opponent this November.

And if things continue as they have been for Ob, I will even campaign strongly for Mac.

PUMA has been a God-send in all this. Harriett Christian and I share a great deal of demographic history and her outrage was my catharsis. I watched the RBC at home, unable to do anything but rant at my TV set, when she let loose – she spoke for ME.

PUMA. McCain ’08, Hillary 2012 Country before party.

  • bart

I like it. The very “uncouthness” of the word “ass” lends some edge to the group. In other words, it shows a little of the anger. That’s not a bad thing, IMHO.

    • audacity

      indeed.

      stop self-censorship

  • pw

I think its catchy, easy to remember, and it will get much attention. I’ve introduced it to the stockhouse web site, sent it to a few of my friends, and told them to pass it on. I suggest others do the same. You need to pass the message on to where the population is, and thats the stock rooms.

  • joeysky

It got this much attention because of its name. Good!

  • http://thehorizontalworld.blogspot.com/ Medusa

    Go Pumas!
    Just Say No Deal!

The so-called Democratic party has failed at democracy.
BO is unqualified, inexperienced and a fraud.

I will vote for cock roach before I vote for BO and I’ve been a Dem for almost 40 years.

    • Keyser

Medusa’s cool and very very right.

  • fran

Today is PUMA’s one month birthday.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY PUMAS!

    • Juju

      Happy Birthday, PUMAS!

  • BIG D. PUMA

    Party. Unity. My. Ass!”

“We’re going all the way to WASHINGTON DC”

    YYYEEEAAAGGGHHH!!!

Give them the truth puma’s and they’ll just think it’s hell. and the truth is Obama wasn’t selected he arm twisted his way into the nomination and then to save face, the DNC called it a selection. The Democrats are screwed now! Bummer. And because they scewed my candidate I’m going to give them ASS. Party unity against the status quo of the DNC and rules and bylaws committee run by the corporate “amerika”!

    • CJ

Oh brother…now KO has become one of Obama’s advisors?

      • Keyser

It keeps him busy and out of the insane asylum.

    • trist

Now that’s just pitiful! I hope the Messiah is compensating Keithy for all this “free” advice. He might as well quit that day job and go to work for him full time!

Of course my advice to the Messiah on how to handle his vote is much better.
Option 1: vote for it, then come back 5min later and say you pushed the wrong button.

Option 2: Push BOTH buttons and let “them” figure it out.

Option 3: Fake menstrual cramps and stay home that day to avoid voting at all.

      Easy peasy!

  • J in MN

I know Keitho is a jerk but yeah lol.

  • elizinsandi

    my ass, means business…boo yah!

  • weltec2

“poty unity my ooss” I believe it was. But beyond that… it was good free advertisement, don’t you think?

  • Thomas

When LJB heard Walter Conkrite comment that the Vietnam War was not winnable, he remarked “If I have lost Conkrite, then I have lost the American people”.

Perhaps, somewhere tonight, BHO is looking upon ice cubes swirling around a single malt Scotch thinking, ” if I lost KO, then I have lost the Obots”.

In the next few days, we can expect Obama to announce that he will not seek the nomination of his party and if elected he will not run.

    Beautiful.

  • Kerri

It’s only a shame they didn’t site member numbers. Do we HAVE that information?

  • PumaG
  • AnninCA

    *woohoo……..Go PUMA!

  • DancingOpossum

I can’t believe KO’s arrogance. He sets himself up as BO’s special advisor and blames everything on the mean ole Republicans. And how did you like his gratuitous insulting slap at GOP voters? Trust me, I don’t think anyone who voted for Dubya is the sharpest knife in the drawer but then again, I feel the same way about anyone who would vote for BO. It’s just par for his smartass, condescending, self-aggrandizing self (I mean KO not BO, although the shoe certainly fits either one.) That smarmy, self-important “special comment” was a real joke.

  • Mirlo

so, an Obama spokesman thinks unity is important?

Ignoring 2’000’000 people who mistrust Sen. Obama and don’t agree with the DNC’s strongarming will not generate unity.

Right now it’s over 2 Million people, Baby, and the group is growing fast. What are you going to do about this, Sen. Obama? Ignore, ignore, ignore? Run, run, run? Lie, lie, lie? Flip flop, flip flop, flip flop? Get a bigger bus? Swiftboat your oponent?

Where then is the great UNITER??? How will you transcend?

Surely you must have read about building trust? You know: 1st step: acknowledge mistakes and wrongdoings, correct, if possible. 2nd step: listen, listen, listen. 3rd step: ….. you know, I’m sure

NOBAMA SAID HE WAS A COMMUNITY ACTIVIST. IN 1976 THE STEEL MILLS WENT DOWN BO WAS PROBABLY 13. SO WHEN EXACTLY DID HE HELP PEOPLE IN CHICAGO DEAL WITH THEIR PROBLEM. LIAR!!!!!!! GO PUMA ITS ABOUT TIME

  • ISAIAH

    lol, funny with her accent!

I’m asking you not to cast the wrong vote out of spite for a party or because hillary is a democrat, but to instead write in Hillary’s name if so many of you feel that she was cheated in any way.
Your votes don’t belong to any party, but to the candidate of your choice, YOUR TRUE CHOICE!
“oh, i’m not gonna write in because think she can’t win…” I dont wanna hear that BS, vote for Hillary regardless! 18,000,000 + new obama and mccain defectors acting in unity would allow for her to gain victory and still become the president of these United States! spread the word, WRITE IN CLINTON, YOUR TRUE CHOICE!!!

  • Mat

I saw an interview today from a Fox News broadcast with one of P.U.M.A’s members – I’m just shocked – you’re clearly free to have your opinion, and your belief and if that really is that this country, our lives, the future of our children will be better off in the hands of John McCain and his administration than with Barack Obama I can’t help but ask why? The person being interviewed said several times that he was a Demo’ that he has liberal beliefs and dismissed the argument that if John McCain wins, after he votes for him, that the fight will be over?! Do you hold that much bitterness through media spin, from all networks, towards the Obama campaign that you would give this election to the Republicans for another 4 years of reverse progress in our economy, healthcare and support from other nations. I would be the first to admit that when someone, or a group of people, try to strongly pressure you into a decision the natural human reaction is to turn the other way and argue. However, with such an important decision to switch your vote from Dem’ to Rep’ because Hillary is not the nominee out of spite. When John McCain’s policies and standards are as polar opposite to Hillary’s as you can get and Obama’s are as close to Hillary’s, it makes no sense.

Your vote, and every person in this country’s vote, is theirs and theirs alone that is what makes this country great. Just think, how will you feel in January if John McCain wins and you and others you motivated voted for him out of spite and anger? I hope you can put anger and bitterness aside and hold judgment until you listen to both candidates and read, independent reviews of their contrasting policies and not base a decision on emotional bitterness and anger.

  • Joann

To the founder of PUMA; I saw you on Fox this morning and they asked you if after you heard Hillary speak last night if you would now vote for Obama and you said no. I totally agree with your take on the Democratic party. The Party elders selected Obama on day one and treated Hillary like a 2nd class citizen ever since. On television every night months before it was over telling her to “just get out already” “you’re breaking up the party”. The media has been so disgraceful too. The latest travisty is now suddenly it’s ok to count Florida and Michigan’s full deligates – what’s with that. Hillary begged every day to seat fully and they said “cannot do it”. Now because their boy Obama is the nominee, they said “ok, now it’s ok to break all the rules for Obama”. This particular group of Democrats no longer represents us or our interest. They want to give the house away anyway and we are all going to pay. Thank you so much for your honesty.

  • MsMcKenzie

All this PUMA crap needs to come to a stop. This nation needs unity in times like this and it is bad enough that we are divided into Democrats and Republicans. Now we are dividing the Democrats? Please give it a break….I really feel that this all boils down to a racial issue. People cannot STAND to see an African American become president, even if he is qualified. If Obama and Hilary represent many of the same interests/issues, what is the problem with electing Obama as president? Oh like I said, he is BLACK!
    OBAMA/Biden ’08

    • An American

Exactly. P.U.M.A. should change its name to C.R.A.P. Clearly Racist Ass People!!!!!!!!!!!

      • No Mo, Bo or Stumblin Jo

Obama is a chameleon by taking positions to pander to his immediate audience. Clearly your using racism to buttress support for him is contradictory to Martin Luther Kings “I have a Dream” speech (which he failed to recognize when he gave his acceptance speech). The dream is to base a man on the content of his CHARACTER and NOT the color of his skin. Obama lacks character and is therefore an unacceptable candidate.

McCain has character, Obama does not. Easy choice.

  • An American

Wow…some character. Exploiting the volunteer efforts of Gustav for political gain. Nice photo op! Great character… he OPPOSED the legislation to recognize Martin Luther King’s birthday as a national holiday!

If that’s the “excuse” you want to use to lie to yourself then go ahead. The ONLY reason you won’t vote for him is because he’s black. Face it, the only reason you are voting for McCain is because he has a running he’s white and he has a running mate with ovaries. NO SUBSTANCE!

As for his speech (Obama), those of us who KNOW and are familiar with the I Have A Dream Speech heard MANY references to Dr. King. Barack doesn’t have to “flaunt” the fact that he is an example of the dream Dr. King talked about. However, whenever given the chance, John McCain will “flaunt” the fact that he was a POW. Again, playing on the emotions of America for political gain.

    • No Mo, Bo or Stumblin Jo

I see, honor MLK by not openly honoring him? Yes, I can see how that would be very beneficial for people of color (who all are not convinced he’s for them!)

At least those in the presidential races have given credit to the sisters who have paved the way for them. Unlike your buddy who is afraid to give credit to the AA’s who came before. (Maybe he did in a super-secret AA session where his words were not be heard by a redneck crowd he was also courting.)

      PUMA!

  • An American

You proved my point. PUMA= CRAP!!!

    Thanks!

  • S Arapahoe Peak

Hello ALL Concerned & Thoughtful Democrats:

I ask that we all rally around Sens. Obama & Biden by donating canvassing time, money & ensure that EVERYONE you know gets a mail-in ballot & elect a STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET, starting with the junior senator from Illinois & make the greatest splash in Democratic Party & national electoral history since 1932!!!!

    GOBAMA!!!

  • darrell Williams

MLK never would have supported nobama, because african americans are voting the color of this mans skin and not the content of his charecter. Obama and Biden need to win or lose this on their own, Neither man has a record of helping the black community. They enjoy the support of the poor but they have not earned it. I am the poor and I aint buying it. If not the Clintons then its John Macain. This guy is white but he has a record of service to his country we have already sacraficed the experence of the best in the democratic party for this what else do you want. GO PUMA!!!!!!!
