Krauthammer: Race is last the refuge of liberal scoundrals

We’ve all heard this famous condemnation: “Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.” Now, Charles Krauthammer (syndicated columnist and Fox News analyst), along with others, have adopted a critically important new variation on this old saying. Watch the video (h/t to Reverand Amy!):

The Special Report with Bret Baier is the smartest and most informative hour of news reporting on ALL of cable news. Baier has a true gift for concisely packing in so much news that you’ll never hear elsewhere.

Then there are the last 20 minutes of his Monday through Friday show: The expert panel.

Baier invariably gets some of the sharpest and most independent minds in D.C. for that enthralling segment. But I confess that I’m always disappointed when Krauthammer isn’t on the panel, although thankfully, more often than not, he is. Whether I agree with him or not is unimportant: I love to see how his mind works and how beautifully he articulates his analyses of the day’s most important stories.

  • Objective Analysis

Agree – the snide about “patients in mental hospitals” was genius.

He is right and is not even racist about it. Obama and his liberal supporters are loosing the healthcare argument badly.

I remember Tuskeegee experiment with syphillis. There is no way in hell I would support anything government run in healthcare and I don’t care if it has a black face to it.

    • maryann

But Reid still says he’s going to go nuclear (reconciliation). They don’t care what we want.

His “patients” line literally had me LOL. Perfect. And well deserved For Dowd.

      • Lana

Me, too. LOL is so watered down–I laughed out loud! ;)

If They Talk Long Enough, A Truth Slips Out

I just love it when New York Times columnists accidently tell the truth. Especially when they expose themselves in the process. Take Bob Herbert’s column today, for example.

First he explains that Jimmy Carter spoke one of the 10 great truths in America when he charged anyone disagreeing with the Obama Doctrine with racism. He even describes Carter’s statement as a Homer Simpson “doh!” moment: if you don’t see racism in the emotional agitation against the President, you, sir, are an idiot and a liar. Then he turns around to remind us that St. Jimmy himself:

(… During his presidential campaign in 1976, … blithely let it be known that he had no problem with residents “trying to maintain the ethnic purity of their neighborhoods,” and he tossed around ugly terms like “black intrusion” and “alien groups.” He later apologized.)

Hmmm. Can apologizing make you not a racist? He maybe needs to apologize some more if that’s the case, as he’s the only one I’ve ever heard call Obama a “black boy.” And it just seems to roll off his tongue.

Herbert has inadvertently exposed the truth that non-racists everywhere have always suspected: those who scream “racist” loudest and most frequently, who see racism no matter where they turn, are usually the biggest racists in the room. I reach this conclusion because pretty much everything else in Herbert’s column appears to be angry accusations of racism hurled in the direction of the other party.

But hey, read Herbert’s column yourself and tell me who you think is stirring up racism for their own purposes.

    • elizabethrc

Wouldn’t it be a great day when black columnists/journalists begin to write about something other than race and how the white man has put down the black man?!!
I stopped reading Herbert and I stopped listening to Juan Williams, Eugene Robinson, et al, because they are one theme ponies. They’re still fighting a civil war that whites have moved on from. They will be locked in this dead space until they actually deal with their own problems of racism….toward whites.
      Credibility? Shrinking by the day!

  • cookiegramma

I also agree. CK’s opinion is the only part of the editorial page I normally read. The man is a brilliant commentator and seems not to fear the wrath of those in political power.

‘They Haven’t Been Able to Govern’ – Paterson Slams Prez!

“Well, this is going to make David Paterson a lot of friends in the White House, as he tries to put himself in the president’s shoes:”

“If you look at it from their perspective, they haven’t exactly been able to govern in the first year of their administration in the way that other administrations have, where you would have, theoretically, a period in which the new administration is allowed to pass the needed pieces of legislation.”

Obama & company don’t know how to run a government. Obama’s White House is so bad that even a blind man can see it. God help us!

    • westexan

Somebody said somebody has fucked up first base so bad that nobody can’t play it. That seems a fitting description of the obama presidency (or lack thereof of a presidency) of the US of A. And I don’t mean the Union of Socialist America either. We haven’t got there yet and hopefully we never will. Maybe D. Paterson would be better off holding on to his governorship of his state and seceeding from the rest. I think Gov. Perry of Texas has the same idea.

I agree that the Baier Hour and particularly the round-up panel is very informative and excellent discussion. I’m usually cooking dinner while it’s on and try to catch it nightly.

As for the Krauthammer clip, I caught this one and laughed at the Dowd dig–”the patient.” I thought that column of hers was dispicable and utterly ridiculous, as ridiculous as the Carter statement. Apparently, there are Democratic heart and mind readers out there, who feel perfectly within their rights to make proclamations about American attitudes. I read even a Dave Matthews jumped into the fray–racism is “everywhere.”

Well, that’s certainly the prism through which the Far Left views everything.

I disagreed with Juan Williams on this one–that the WH and Pelosi were not looking to inflame the controversy. Silence and/or near silence speaks volumes. And in Pelosi’s case, she had no problem calling the American public a bunch of Nazis, astroturfing crazies because they have had the audacity to disagree with Obama policies.

Krauthammer is very impressive, even on those occasions when I vehemently disagree with him. This is not one of those times.

  • ECONSMED

I absolutely love listening to Charles – I make the Special Report part of my evening (love my dvr) and when I can catch the wed eve online show it’s an extra plus..

I don’t get Juan’s view on this though, I think the White House completely wanted this racial dust up to quiet debate – same crap they pulled in the primaries.

  • westexan

“Race is the last refuge of the liberal scoundrel”. I still hold out hope that the race that made this nation great will come to their senses and prevail again. Obama talks about how great this nation is and then refutes himself by saying we need a change.

    • maryann

Isn’t that what he said during the campaign? It went something like: “The United States is the greatest country on Earth. I hope you’ll work with me to change that.”

      • westexan

Yeah, I will surely work with obama to try and that, to prevent any other of his kind from ever occupying the oval office again. Amen!

      • westexan

Yeah, I will surely work with obama to try and do that, to prevent any other of his kind from ever occupying the oval office again. Amen!

        • beachnan

I am going to assume that you mean by “his kind”, that you mean an empty suit that doesn’t know what he is doing.

    • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

As he did early in the campaign when he was quoted (obviously without TOTUS) “America is the greatest country in the world. Join me in changing it.”

Glenn Beck is great today…all the connections between Soros, 0zer0, ACORN, etc., out on the blackboard!

  • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

Could you pull me out of SPAM?

  • getfitnow

The WH could have nipped this in the bud right away. But they didn’t. Carter made a second comment. BO has a way of letting comments float and fester in the msm and then, later, comes in as the so-called reconciler. I don’t buy it. He did it during the primaries too. It’s a tactic–an ugly, vile one that I lay at the feet of POTUS.

    OK, I’ll try once more…

OK, Spamilator, I give up. I’ll stuff it and will go elsewhere. How f*****g frustrating.

    • westexan

Okay Martha. Hope is the substance of things not seen. Oh, I see the spam monster ate your rant. Thats okay, do it again, its better with aging. My wife has been putting my words into the spaminater for years! LOL! And she says I am better as I age. LOL!

      • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

Looks like they cleaned out the catch…the post is now UP. I will agree with you about aging…a whole lot better than I was at 35:>)

  • Sassy

    Bronwyn, I agree with you!
Bret Baier and panel are the best news of the day. They are always concise and current.
What a change from the mush-mouthed White House pooper-scoopers!

  • tek

And faith is the last refuge of conservative scoundrels.

    • Peggy Sue

      So true, tek!

  • Rif

I think Juan used to be a more reliable pundit…..I think he is now buying into the propaganda of the white house and their operators and doesn’t even know it. Too bad we lost him as an objective reporter. He believes the president at his word……did he forget the primary and the campaign? da! I think that Krauthammer is great in articulating his observations. He is no fool and I love hearing how he puts his thoughts together in almost a poetic form. I too tune into Bret and look forward to hearing what Charles has to say on the day’s political happenings. I am disappointed when he is not articulating his views. It’s good to know that perfect strangers share my view.

    • Shina Tawana

Here, here! look forward every night to Krauthammer but unfortunately Juan Williams sees everything in black and white and makes no sense half the time.

      It happens….Colin Powell’s for example.

      Race is thicker than politics.

  • tillthen

I love Krauthammer. Too bad we can’t replicate him and flood DC with his wisdom. I never knew he was paralyzed.

There’s a great entry on him at Wikipedia:

  • Beez_Waxing

FYI: Krauthammer is a lawyer and a medical doctor (psychiatrist). He’s also a conservative. You know, one of those realllllly stupid people you Democrats keep on runnin’ your yaps about.
