Hey, I’m not gonna try to convert any of you to the poker religion … but this online gambling regulation is about way more than making it nice for some pathetic degens to throw away their last pennies. It’s a multibillion-dollar industry that Europe is profiting off of greatly while providing a safe way for their citizens to play some recreational poker or bet on a few games, while better able to treat those who have a real problem.

Again, I know I don’t have much to stand on by saying, “I know … online gambling! That will solve the nation’s problems!”

But this issue is a matter of sensible government. Option 1 (the status quo) is to spend a lot of money to ineffectively enforce a ban … leaving citizens unprotected from nefarious operators, no protections to prevent minors from gambling etc.

Option 2 (the stuff Barney Frank and Ron Paul are pushing) is to provide consumer protections, treatment for addicts, and provisions to keep out minors in a way that actually makes money for the country.

So, the underground market is gobbling up all those revenues and the Government wants a piece of the action [or in this case they want the whole enchilada].

Anybody else think the US government is sounding like the new mob in town?

As for gambling? Who the hell has the money to gamble, online or otherwise? Atlantic City and Las Vegas have had steady declines since the financial tailspin. People are unemployed and losing their homes and this is the best that Congress can suggest?

And Barney Frank, no less, the man who said Freddie and Fannie were in swell shape right before they fell into the abyss. That Barney Frank, the Prophet of Financial Soundness?

This is beyond sad. What’s next? Taxing prostitution? I’m sure ACORN could help the cause.

And this is all for Health Care? Pardon me while I retch.

First Virginia and then Tennesse started lotteries to fund education. Tuition costs still sky-rocketed.
I saw a report about a small Canadian town that held lottery drawings for a doctor’s visit.
Could be coming to a casino near you!

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it “Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold.”

The note was a follow-up to Ensign’s questioning at the markup.

The idea is for the corporate-fascists to take over health care; it is approximately 20% of our economy. They don’t give a flip about your health care; they crave control over it. An aspirin or euthanasia is OK for you, as long as the corporate-governmnent schemers control all health records, recommend treatment, and keep practically all of the money for the corporate bankers and government officials on-the-take. Remember that is how Michelle
Obama got started, turning away low income people from the hospital in Chicago.
