Headline of the Day!

“CBS 2 Mike Flannery reports that the Chicago defeated leaves Obama politically wounded by taking on a fight that he really didn’t have to take.” – CBS2 Chicago‘s story on Chicago’s elimination in the FIRST round of IOC voting. If there are similar results from Obama’s efforts with Afghanistan and health care, god help us all!

Now for the “Headline of the Day,” from the Drudge Report:

ego-drudge

Now, check out the HOT chatter in more news articles:

FIRST, FYI, to see that headline in its full glory — it’s huge! (maybe 10 inches wide?) — go to Drudge.

___________________

From our friends at Flopping Aces, on the taxpayer money wasted on this vanity exercise by the Obamas:

Three 747’s, one 757, a fleet of C-17 cargo planes carrying limos and support vehicles. Hundreds of military, Secret Service and staff as well as countless hours of senior staff time that could have addressed issues like Afghanistan or Iran.

All to ferry the Obama’s over for this failed effort. …

From BBC Sports:

{…]

BBC News’ Adam Brookes in Chicago: “The shock of Chicago’s elimination was greater for the fact that it came in the first round. And greater for the fact that President Obama had taken valuable hours from his packed and tense political schedule to travel to Copenhagen. His legendary powers of persuasion will be said to have failed him, though in reality it will be Chicago’s bid that failed him. Nonetheless, this is a moment which allows the president’s detractors to allege waning prestige on the part of his presidency. And it will raise questions about the political advice that he is receiving.”

There’s much morei at Memeorandum.

And, just in case you missed it, here’s Obama speaking for his beloved Chicago — KEEP A BUCKET HANDY!

Now that the “American Idol” portion of the broadcast is over, I would like to respectfully suggest that President Obama plant his feet behind the desk and get to work on pressing matters, both military and economic, that are facing this country. No more Letterman, no more campaign b.s., no more expensive dates on the taxpayer dime.

I was glad to hear that he just met with McChrystal face to face in Copenhagen today and hope the General gave him in earful. It is time to stop playing to his cronies or his base, time to stop winning popularity contests and do what is best for the country.

It would help if he would get the Jarretts and the Axelrods out and get advice from people not busy lining their pockets. It is the biggest longshot to think that could happen however.

  • ~~JustMe~~

    Good post Ani

    however

I am sure McChrystal deserves longer than 25 minites he gave him. Our service men and women are dying! They deserve the service they show to our Country. O now needs to get on with it we as a country need it.

Very amusing to see how all the Obama haters have no problem at all rooting against America here. Note also that the heads of state for all the finalist countries were on hand to pitch the Olympic Committee. Note, further, that South America has never hosted an Olympics so Rio was clearly an ideal choice.

But no matter — it’s an Obama fail, America lost, and NQ is rejoicing.

  • 1138

I was involved in the bid for NYC 2012 and it’s an arduous process, and had Chicago been selected everyone would be singing President Obama’s praises… so this could very easily have gone a different way.

But in my opinion it was in tremendously bad taste for a President who currently has enough on his place both in terms of domestic and foreign affairs… for a President who based his entire campaign on triangulation… for a candidate who espoused how much he was “above” the petty and divisive squabbles of traditional politics… to fly around the world and waste a tremendous amount of money in a pretty transparent bid to “win one for Chicago”

What continues to sadden me is that Presidents and politicians should really at the end of the day only be judged by their actions, not their intentions, not their words, not their speeches.

Unfortunately, I think that voters in the United States and perhaps the people of the world are slowly waking up to the fact that President Obama is very good at talking the talk, but not very good at walking the walk

If America is going to truly represent the “shining city on the hill” and TRULY gain credibility in the world… then it’s time that as voters we held our elected officials responsible for their actions not their speeches

There has been a growing narrative taking hold about Barack Obama’s presidency in recent weeks: that he is loved by many, but feared by none; that he is full of lofty vision, but is actually achieving nothing with his grandiloquence.

Chicago’s dismal showing today, after Mr Obama’s personal, impassioned last-minute pitch, is a stunning humiliation for this President. It cannot be emphasised enough how this will feed the perception that on the world stage he looks good — but carries no heft. …

…Mr Obama was greeted — as usual — like a rock star by the IOC delegates in Copenhagen — then humiliated by them. Perception is reality. A narrow defeat for Chicago would have been acceptable — but the sheer scale of the defeat was a bombshell, and is a major blow for Mr Obama at a time when questions are being asked about his style of governance…

Ah, schadenfreude! “The ego has landed”, beautiful.

  • http://me414.wordpress.com/ Mary Ellen (Nunly)

I’m one of those native Chicagoans who was against this idea from the start and I couldn’t be happier that it won’t be here.

Daley should worry about spending money on the crime, schools, and transportation in the city.

I love Chicago, I was born here, I grew up here, and I still love it here….that’s why I didn’t want this. Maybe we can finally dump Daley and break that machine of his. I’ll bet he’s whining his way all the way home.

I can’t wait to read John Kass’s next column. heh heh heh.

  • Prime Obot

Right, PUMAs, right. Obama and Chicago are soooo evil and corrupt that America won by losing the Olympics. You keep telling yourselves that.

  • mkm125

    Gotta love this quote:

[At a rally in Daley Plaza five months before the election, Obama drummed up enthusiasm for the bid. He said: "In 2016, I'll be wrapping up my second term as president, so I can't think of a better way than to be marching into Washington Park alongside Mayor Daley, alongside Rahm Emanuel, alongside Dick Durbin, alongside Valerie Jarrett as President of the United States, and announcing to the world, 'Let the games begin!'" ]

  • Susanne

Well I guess the deflates his ego. Thanks Mr. Pres for spending all that tax payer money to go over there and fizzle out. Bravo for Brazil

  • sjc-tx

Well said 1138… and I doubt ANYONE here would disagree. Problem is the misinformed voters and propogandized crap fed to us by the ignorant media make this virtually impossible in a real world.

  • Hank

Post the clip where Obama says he is bringing the 2016 Olympics.

Gibbs: Obama not sorry he took the trip.
Of course it was taxpayer money, time to start taking care of our domestic problems.

  • avwrobel

That’s about it Ani! In Obambi’s defense (though I’m loathe to give him anything) he was doing a little promoting of his ‘hometown’ and paying Richard Daley a favor. I read about these bids in depth and Chicago’s was a weak one. Madrid’s was very strong, but with London hosting in 2012 they gave the nod to Rio. As far as Obambi getting to work now, I’m not holding my breath. I’m wondering who will step up and lead in this time of great uncertainty and stress.

  • Docelder

I see Obama finally met with McChrystal. I guess if Chicago had won, he would have snubbed him for some press conference live from Chicago. Let the rationalizations begin. Now the trip was never just about the Olympics. The mighty Casey has struck out.

  • mkm125

Mary Ellen me too! I want to see what Kass has to say. As for the Obot comment—yes–some of us are happy that Obama got a “reality check” and Chicago did not get the Olympics. I am of the opinion that it was not a fiscally good idea—–which has nothing to do with my distaste for Obama. One can speculate on how much money “it could bring in” and also how much money in cost overruns it could produce.

  • Hank

25 minutes with the General, sounds more like a photo op.

  • Karma

Most people in Chicago didn’t want to host the games because they know first hand about the corruption.

So why would normal Americans be happy about handing billions over to ‘pay to play’ politicians, who have run low income housing into the ground, in order to profit even more by stealing/building on that same land for the Olympics?

Do you have no soul? How long did the residents in those buildings have to suffer for that Olympic greed?

    Rio deserved the games.

And really. How many times are you going to complain about people who see the whole picture while on your knees looking through a keyhole?

Sorry, but I won’t root for slumlords who profit off of other’s misery as a viable or honorable Olympic plan.

Do some research on how much the Olympics actually benefit a city that hosts them. Then, wake up, Prime Obot. You’re whining for all the wrong reasons.

    Chump.

  • hokma

I read that they did not even have enough money budgeted to build an Olympic Village. With a city government that needs to shut down at least one day a week and unprecendented levels of gang crime and killings, why would any rational Olympic Committee person vote for Chicago in the first place.

There is a shocking dichotomy in Chicago and among African Americans that was apparent in this Olympic pitch. There are the elitists like the Obamas, Oprah and Valerie Jarrett juxtaposed to the majority of average African Americans who grew up and live in Chicago.

The elitists see Chicago as a perfect city with no problems in their presentation to the Olympic Committee.

The there are the average African Americans in Chicago who see it differently. They see their lives in danger every day as a result of the epidemic of gang crime. They see unprecendented numbers of school kids being killed each year. And they do not understand why the city is more concerned about superficial facelifts to get the Olympics and not devoted to providing better crime fighting and safety for them.

The odds of a Republican defeating Obama in 2012 are very low. If the economy completely collapses, then maybe. Otherwise you can forget it. The GOP is not offering any kind of a vision that America can or will support. Obama is. Have you noticed yet that his approval ratings are rising again, and are still comfortably over 50? Have you noticed that a solid two-thirds of Americans support the emerging general outlines of the Democrats’ health care plan, including a strong public option?

Of course you don’t. In PUMA-land, America has rejected Obama and doesn’t support a public health care option. LOL. Here is the reality:

    1. Most Americans still like Obama.
    2. Most Americans support the Democrats’ health care plans.
    3. A good health care bill will pass this year.
    4. Once tens of millions of Americans who live with tremendous economic uncertainty and stress today because of health care realize that this bill actually guarantees them lifelong access to affordable health insurance that cannot be taken away if they get fired or get sick, the Democratic Party will dominate American electoral politics for another generation.
    5. And yes, Obama will be resoundingly reelected.

I thought this was so great I called my husband just to brag.

    There is so many possibilities:

Chicago was never really in the running but the IOC loved being able to lure Obama to Copenhagen with false stories of his importance to the selection.

Chicago was seriously considered but Obama, Michelle and Oprah did more harm then good with their insipid speeches.

Chicago was in the top two but the IOC actually paid attention to the 50% disaproval rate by Chicago residents. Add in the annual murder rate and school kid violence of the past week and Chicago lost favor.

The Obamas were told Chicago was the front runner, waltzed in with an attitude of entitlement and superiority and the IOC decided to put them in their place.

Chicago was seriously considered but the revelations of fraud, etc, that have come out the past week in regards to Daley and Obama administration officals/cronies made them unwilling to choose the city since the IOC didn’t want to be under that much possible scrutiny.

  • jwrjr

And since the violence isn’t being covered anywhere else, the bashing and killing must not be happening.

Do you think these people would sit still while hoards with money in their pockets enter that Shithole. The IOC knew what it was doing.

  • Ani

This has nothing to do with America losing — many nations that host the Olympics wind up losing money and the taxpayers have to foot the bill — we do not need this right now.

We need the President to focus on our pressing problems, not to help his cronies line their pockets. Anyone happy here is happy we will not have more cronyism.

I personally hope he will use this opportunity to realize the cult of personality is over and hit the books and make an attempt to get down to work. He neds to take a good long look in the mirror and realize he cannot get his way on the power of his smile. People are dying in two wars as we speack — our troops! He also wants to ram through a health care bill that will not take effect for 3-1/2 years — without even reading it — what’s the rush?

His priorities are clearly screwy. But please let’s not take that into account. Let’s just look at the surface and make accusations.

  • Naomi

this is beyond disgusting. for any of you to cheer and gloat over a US city NOT being given the olympics is beyond me. he went there to make a push just like the other heads of countries did for the remaining candidates – obviously the voting committee felt Rio was the better choice. it is not a rejection of Obama. Why are you such haters of this country???? is your hatred for him so deep that you will make him responsible for every thing that ever happens? seems so and you enjoy it. that is sick and beyond unpatriotic. look at your self in the mirror – you must see your ugliness. all of you.

  • kgirl1028

What is the make up of the IOC? Because Obama pissed off quite a few of our allies over the last month, and this smack down might have been their way of getting him back. Merkle in Germany is veryyunimpressed with Obama, and let’s not for get the way he added insult to injury with how he treated Poland, he’s insulted the Brits with his return of the Churchill Bust and his Ghettofabulous gifts to the Browns, Nicolas Sarkozy thinks he’s an arrogent fool, do the Obama and MSM really thing Obama’s arrogent insulting behaviors occurs in a vaccum? I know the Bots do. One of my top ten reasons for not voting for obama had to do with the unhinged behavior of obamatown residents so I really and truly don’t think its a far stretch to believe that the IOC would kick him in the head and cut him down to size. Obama’s a narcissist with antisocial tendencies, and rejection is something they loath. This is a perfect slap down for this fool. I also think out democratic leaders who don’t like Obama’s agenda, that it’s ok to tell Obama no. The world is not going to end just because you don’t give him what he wants.

Naomi, I’m glad the country was spared the potential graft and corruption, Chicago style, had the city been awarded the games. None of the Olympic games showed even close to being a wash in expense and revenue. Half of the people of Chicago don’t even want it. And what benefit is there for the rest of the country? And Obama has no business wasting time for one city when the whole country is facing economic hardship; millions without a job and millions losing their homes. Obama is the one who should be ashamed.

  • Peggy Sue

You progs have the unmitigated gall to call us America haters?? I’ve read your prog pages, babe, all the spleen and apologies and excuses for anything and everything American. We’re racist, we’re dirty capitalists, we’re imperialists, yada, yada, yada.

We cannot, cannot spend ourselves into prosperity with money we do not have, not on the backs of Chicago taxpayers or taxpayers from any other US State.

President Obama went on a fool’s errand. He lost the bid, did not convince, and thank God for that. Unless, of course, you’ve had so much koolaide you can’t see the future.

Of course you don’t. In PUMA-land, America has rejected Obama and doesn’t support a public health care option. LOL. Here is the reality:

    1. Most Americans still like Obama.

Prove it without the use of lies, damned lies, and statistics.

    2. Most Americans support the Democrats’ health care plans.

Prove it without the use of lies, damned lies, and statistics.

    3. A good health care bill will pass this year.

Define good, healthcare, and plan and then apply those definitions to what you just wrote. It doesn’t match up, half-pint. It is also a patently absurd prediction from one who is a known commodity, i.e., a left-wing nutbag.

    4. Once tens of millions of Americans who live with tremendous economic uncertainty and stress today because of health care realize that this bill actually guarantees them lifelong access to affordable health insurance that cannot be taken away if they get fired or get sick, the Democratic Party will dominate American electoral politics for another generation.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy, dipstick. The economic stress is more than likely caused by lack of work and a worsening economy more than healthcare issues. But your tinhorn in the WH would rather play beggar in Copenhagen. You’re too simple-minded for words.

    5. And yes, Obama will be resoundingly reelected.

And here you jump from the frying pan into more intimate contact with the fire.

Why do you insist on wearing your abject ignorance on your shirtsleeve for everyone to comment on and recoil in horror from? Oh, you’re a bot. never mind.

  • Peggy Sue

Good Ferd! Let Bot and the Naomi creature have it. You notice they only come out of the woodwork when the heat has been turned up.

The majority of Americans “love” Obama?

Nine months and he’s dropped to the 50th percentile.

The majority of Americans support the Dems Health care proposals?

56% object to the current Democratic health care plan.

A good health care plan will pass this year?

Guess it depends on your definition of “good.” But excuse me, a bill that will not be offered to public to read [Obama's 72 hour promise] and won’t afford time for the God damn Congress to read or the CBO to mark before a vote is. . . well, let’s say, highly suspicious.

But please, go for that “nuclear option.”

Number 4? Dream on fool. Unless, of course, you believe that the majority of the American public truly believes that the “government” has our best interest at heart [did you believe that of the Bush&Co years?]. No? Didn’t think so. Or is this the Obama spin that we are suppose to follow blindly?” Big Pharma anyone??? Lobbyists up where the sun don’t shine?

And number 5? So glad you Bots have precognition. Touched by the Messiah, perhaps? Give you a clue–if Obama&Co. can’t get the economy up and running, really running [not the happy talk spin], they’re toast. Because it’s always, always about the wallet. Ask Jimmy Carter! And right now, the moths have come home to roost in middle and working America [you know all those "bitter" people].

You can only spin the numbers so long before they come back and bite you in the rearend.

Btw, I’m not a Republican. Just a recovering Democrat.

And please, check out the numbers of the Independents. They are jumping ship like crazy.

  • Peggy Sue

Btw, this is totally off topic, but I’m listening to Juan Williams right now seriously questioning why Barack Obama, the first AA POTUS, has not questioned and/or remarked on the hideous black on black violence that we’ve witness this last week in Chicago.

It’s an important question. And I give kudos to Williams. He’s a really fine, extrordinary and gifted writer/commentator, who speaks the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Obama was shilling in Copenhagen, trying to sell the Chicago brand, when Derrion Albert, an honor student, was senselessly murdered, beaten to death on the Chicago streets [and who knows how many more].

Where is the President’s voice for the city he loves so much? Of course, these kids don’t have clout or any money to add to the coffers. But if Juan Williams is asking the question, why can’t I?

Where are you Mr. President? Where are you on matters that count, in blood and lives? Not just money. Chicago streets, Afghanistan and/or Iraq.

Where are you, Barack Obama? Where do you stand? Not with a God damn speech. Where are you, really?

  • Lyn

A great many people did not want Chicago to have the Olympics. Many people from Chicago felt it would be terrible for the city and they couldn’t afford it. They also felt it was a way Daley/Obama and their slumlord friends like Jarret would make a lot of money and bring even MORE corruption to their city and State. I am HAPPY they succeeded in stopping them.

  • Lyn

OH no don’t forget he managed to squeeze 25 min in for the General today. Of course the General had to go to Copenhagen and meet Obama on his plane to actually speak with him…

Today’s selection was so what he needed but I fear it will end up causing that “wounder animal in the corner” reaction. He’s going to have to strut his stuff harder than ever now.

You know, what has been lost in the reporting and recounting of this decision is not just that Chicago lost in the first round, they were soundly dismissed, with only 18 out of a possible 90 something. That should be seen as a message.

  • Onofre’s arm

    P. Obot always uses subjective words like “good” when he describes the healthcare nonsense. But what’s good for the botfly, isn’t so good for it’s host.

    P. Obot also frequently posts his conjectures as though they are facts, and then challenges us to refute them. It has become tedious to read or respond to his posts. On several occasions he emphatically told me that I would be unable to refute his claims. When I did, and when I challenged him to provide evidence for his outrageous claims…………crickets. Then he’ll show up here a week later and crank up a new line of bullshit.

Perhaps if we give him some candy, or change his diaper, he will stop being so fussy.

  • Ferd Berfle

Laugh away but the IOCC pissed in our backyard.. This is not about Obama its about us as a Nation.

  • jbjd

I can remember when BO first went on Oprah. I hadn’t investigated his candidacy yet, and learned his foreign relations adviser was Samantha Power, who advocated unilaterally invading Israel to establish a Palestinian state; so I had an open mind. Oprah told a story that the 2 (two) of them were taking a trip to Africa (I think it was Africa) and she said, she asked him if he wanted to fly on her plane, but he said, ‘No.’ She urged him to tell the audience why. Finally, seemingly reluctantly, he explained. ‘Well, I am sure Oprah wouldn’t expect any favors from me but, if I am doing the people’s business, I want to avoid even the appearance of impropriety.’ I was impressed enough to look him up; and immediately, I realized, he was a fraud. Now, he takes this flight with Oprah and could not care less about impressions.

  • lovemycountry

When it first came over the news Chicago struck out, it reminded me of that old tune: “Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen…” I’ve been humming it all day. What got me laughing though, was when Rush L. started saying Oprah, in her depression, had just eaten Denmark, then interjected throughout the show she had just started on the Fiords, and kept adding other countries to the menu throughout his talk today..it just got more and more hilarious.

“Those big bullies took my five-ring rattle, and I wore make-up, and Michelle wore a gold dress, and I like my helicopter, sort-a, and the jet is okay, but that short guy in Iran is on my back, and everyone expects me to fuss at those Taliban people, and they are scary, and all I hear is jobs, and people don’t like the way I spend their money, and I need to get organized, and I don’t really like dogs much, I just want to read a speech, and have a good cry!”

  • Ferd Berfle

oowawa is not and never has been a supporter of That One. Further, the reference to Dogpatch (as with the entire comment) was done tongue-firmly-in-cheek, especially considering that the commenter to which he referred used Daisy Mae intentionally. We have enough bots around here without resorting to calling one of the regulars a bot. I stand with oowawa.

    You ARE Sassy!

LMAO. Another dear diary entry from Obimbo.

Rahm Emanuel was mocking critics of the Chicago 2016 bid. How’s that crow taste, Rahmie?

This story details the deals made behind the scenes.

    Good one, Martha!

Well, thanks for the defense, Katmoon & Ferd. It’s just one of the hazards of being sarcastic 24-7. Cheers, elizabethrc: sometimes I gag on my own snark. As for Dogpatch: I love the city, and its inhabitants–particularly Stupefyin’ Jones.

I don’t consider Chicago to be America when it’s politicians, including the Dumbo himself, have snubbed the Constitution, nor do I consider our sentiments to be against the country, but rather a strong cry against those usurping it’s intrinsic values. Shall I list them? You can find dozens of examples in the ACORN puss pit, and virtually everywhere in the Primaries, not to mention failure to prove citizenship. Still waiting for your Caddy?

God save America from Obama and his elitist thugs.

  • tillthen

Have they blamed it on the Bossa Nova yet?

    Ha, ha! Love it.

If I misread Oowawa’s meaning I do apologize. It’s just that I get so heated up at times that, as here, I obviously am in the wrong.
Oowawa, I will read you more carefully and more respectfully.

umm that black on black violence was happening when Obama was in the Illnois State Senate and he didn’t say much then. If Juan had done a little research about Obama he wouldn’t be on tv asking stupid questions.

  • tek

I’ll be watching closely. I’m afraid that’s what they’ll do with amnesty. They know Obama–nor any of them–can get in office without the La Raza votes.

  • tek

Yah, I can’t wait til the amnesty debate opens. That’s the end of Obie One.

  • tek

    Obama is not America.

The other “heads” of countries DIDN’T go. Their underlings went.

Only are dumb president decided to show his face in an unprecedented move that made him look like a sap.

Are we supposed to cry about it?

How many people cried when Bush Jr. got that shoe thrown at his head? I know I didn’t.

And I’m not going to cry now.

I’m sorry, but in rooting against the Olympics here, we are rooting for America.

The countries that have hosted Olympic games before some are STILL paying off their debts.

Does this country need to saddle itself with yet another sinking pit, for us to throw money down?

In case you apologists haven’t realized…there are bigger fish to fry.

Now save your moral outrage, for what is going on in Afghanistan.

Trust, I won’t hold my breath waiting for it.

Yes, tek, the anti-amnesty organizations are getting super organized and geared up for war with the open borders, anti-America crowd.

They know that the HC crap and amnesty are joined at the hip, and are the Dims best hope for re-election…They must be stopped.
