If you’re referring to Clinton firing all the Federal Attorneys when he took office, that’s standard practice. They serve at the pleasure of the president and when the White House changes hands that’s one of the spoils that go to the victor.

It is NOT equivalent to sacking, what?, eight attorneys in the middle of your term because they are not destroying the opposition fast enough.

Not for one moment would I claim the Clintons are more honest than any other politician. The difference lies in their ability recognize what needs to be done and then do it.

sara, I think you’re right. I think they told him the bid was in trouble but he could rescue it with his personal charm. Believing all his press, Obama went off to Copenhagen to make sure right was done and the Olympics went to Chicago.

But I think when the Obamas arrived in Copenhagen it was instantly clear to them that they would not prevail. That, IMO, is why Obama did not stick around for the awarding ceremony, as Brazil’s President da Silva did. Barack Obama has NEVER missed an opportunity to celebrate himself. I’m sure he would have stayed in Copenhagen if he’d thought there was a chance Chicago would win.

You have to wonder if in the end the Obamas did more harm than good.
