Olympic Bid Dud

I know, I’m a little late to the party writing about Rio winning the 2016 Olympics, but it isn’t for lack of interest. Not at all – rather, I have been amused by some stories I have seen on the IOC decision. To say it took some people by surprise (that is, the Obamas, Oprah, and the Daley Machine) is probably the understatement of the decade.

As to the actual decision to have the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro,I say Good for them. Brazil has worked very hard as a nation to achieve energy independence, no small feat, among other advances. And the Olympics have never been held in South American before, so this is historic.

What else was historic was for a US President to go lobby to get the Olympics. And that turned out to be a big waste of his time and our money. We were paying not just for the President to take Air Force One, but his wife to take Air Force Two, with Oprah in tow, all on a failed mission. Perhaps they though the new Olympic Rings were going to look like this if they did:

Ahem. Hey, you know you wouldn’t have been surprised by that, and neither would I.

Let’s just look at the cost of this little misadventure. You may not be aware that when the President travels, it isn’t JUST Air Force One that goes places. Nope. It also involves C-17s carrying limos, equipment, staff, all of that. It is a VERY expensive enterprise:

President Barack Obama’s failed bid to bring the 2016 Olympic Games to Chicago cost more than a bruised ego.

Taxpayers shelled out probably $1 million or more for the president, his wife and others to fly to Copenhagen and back to woo members of the International Olympic Committee.

A 2006 congressional study pegged the cost of flying Air Force One at $56,518 an hour. The Pentagon recently said it cost $100,219 an hour to fly the huge, reconfigured Boeing 747 without Obama aboard. The Pentagon estimate included more costs for support needs, such as maintenance.

At those rates, the president’s 14-hour trip to Copenhagen and back cost about $790,000 to $1.4 million.

However, presidential travel requires additional spending, especially for security personnel and equipment. Also, first lady Michelle Obama and some administration officials traveled to Copenhagen at public expense ahead of the president.

Uh, yeah. In other words, a gazillion dollars.

Second while there, Obama managed to fit in a BRIEF meeting with General McChrystal, he who has been charged with oversight of Afghanistan:

The Copenhagen trip was not devoted entirely to the Olympics bid. Obama spent 25 minutes conferring with Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, his top Afghan war commander. McChrystal had been in London for a speech, and he made the relatively short trip to Denmark to meet with Obama.

WOW – 25 whole minutes?!?! Holy schmoley, where DID he find the time?!?! Freakin’ spare me. He still hasn’t made up his mind what the hell he is going to do in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, our soldiers continue to die there, 5 of them today, while Obama hems and haws on what to do.

Way to get your priorities in order, President Obama.

And finally, a point made by Larry Johnson in his post, “Barack Obama, Surrender Monkey?” That is this: you do NOT send someone like the president into a situation expending his credibility capital when you do not know for certain what the outcome will be. It is, in Larry’s words, “clueless and feckless.” Amen, brother. You got that right. But clueless they are.

As an aside, I might add so is Michelle. This is in the “You Gotta Be Frikkin Kidding Me” camp. Michelle, in her plea to the IOC, spoke of her youth, watching the Olympics with her dad, sitting on his lap as they watched all of these great athletes win their gold medals. Okay, nothing wrong with that. Until she included Carl Lewis. Just think about that for a moment. That would have made her 20, hardly a little girl. Perhaps the IOC is better at math than she gave them credit for being. Just a thought.

And now, in recognition of Rio de Janeiro winning the 2016 Olympics, I leave you with this:

And don’t blame me when it gets stuck in your head for days!

  • Freedom Fighter

It’s obvious the IOC is staffed by a bunch of racists. Did anyone actually see the moving, impassioned, and inspiring speech given by President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama? It was by far the best speech President Obama has delivered to date. And Mrs. Obama? Well, she certainly lives up to her reputation as the most graceful, elegant, and fashionable first lady this nation has ever had. Watching the retelling of her Olympic dreams for Chicago was even more emotional than watching the “yes we can” video. Any non-racist person would have voted for Chicago.

  • elizabethrc

The astounding thing in all of this is that the Obamas and their team will have learned nothing from this experience, not a single new insight, not a glimmer of the reality of their limits, and will, instead, blame the defeat on some uncontrollable, external cause (Bush, racism, yada yada).
These (this includes his Administration and various czarist henchpersons) folks are so limited in their thinking and so insular in their vision that they simply will be incapable of ever growing and learning from anything. This seems to be true for the Obama supporters, as well. The world will move beyond Obama, but they won’t.
    Sad for the country, really.

  • Diana L. C.

Well, don’t you know that the obots are so darned more intelligent than we are and that the Obamas are the most intelligent first couple we’ve ever had, so if others don’t understand, we’re just too darned dumb, I guess. It must be hard trying to lead all of us morons, I think.

    :-)

  • SoCalDem

This right here is a joke, right???

  • Sandy

You have got to be kidding me! Chicago did’nt get it. That is straight up racism, to quote Jeanine Garofalo. Their answer to everything. I would have loved to have been behind closed doors to see and hear their meltdown over this rejection. Gotta love it!

  • Ferd Berfle

    Excellent wrap-up, RRRA.

We should send this enormous bill to the USOC and Obumble and his bots. Perhaps Soros could be dunned for it. All I know is that this was an example of waste, fraud, and abuse and should be the subject of further investigation.

  • Diana L. C.

    And RRRA,

I just came home last night from a twelve-and-a-half-hour car trip last night at midnight. I’d been away a week and a half. The greeting I got from my two BIG dogs and the way I felt when they greeted me is the same feeling expressed in that song. I’ve nver seen that before. Marvelous! Thank you!

  • jwrjr

The post isn’t a joke. The poster, however, is.

  • Ferd Berfle

Well, don’t you know that the obots are so darned more intelligent than we are and that the Obamas are the most intelligent first couple we’ve ever had, so if others don’t understand, we’re just too darned dumb, I guess. It must be hard trying to lead all of us morons, I think.

LMAO. Yeah, poor Prime Obot with his thankless task of teaching us all about rainbows, unicorns, and manna from on high that comprise Obamaland and how we are fools not to want to join in this mass brain-washing.

  • Ferd Berfle

Free-dumb: You were a marginal obamatron a year ago; you’ve gone decidedly downhill since then. Does that Kool-Aide have some sort of cumulative effect?

    Just askin’.

  • jwrjr

How dare the IOC deny the Imperial magnificence that is his Majesty Barack the First(tm)? Obama probably met with McChrystal ro plan the attack on Copenhagen.
Back in the real world, anybody who thinks that Obama has any “credibility capital” hasn’t been paying attention.

  • Texas Playwright

Thanks, R3Amy, for your coolheaded response–I knew we’d be hearing from ya. Keep on writing, citizen journalists–you’re our sanity.

  • Donna Brazile

It’s the same tired post Freedom Ferry posted yesterday. You betcha, mmm…mmm good.

  • elizabethrc

Isn’t it about time for Obama to throw Valerie Jarrett under the bus? From all I’ve read, she has been the driving force for grabbing the Olympics for Chicago. She is the one who pushed him to go to Copenhagen. She helped make him look really, really bad, so where will she hide now?
Guess she’ll just have to be satisfied with all of her millions from her existing slumlord holdings. She and the rest of the Chicago ‘in’ crowd were counting the dollars to be looted from having the games in Chi town.

  • Donna Brazile

    just sayin”

    Stop the CNNfest:-)

  • DAB

Both Obama’s presentations were so personal and too much “all about them” that they became just plain boorish. I really don’t believe that the world community cares a hoot about their life stories and how the Olympics brings us all together (an overused and mawkish cliche).

The IOC just might have been more interested in the wonders of the city itself — don’t ya think?

I certainly hope that Freedom Fighter is just being ironic. In any event, that is how I will take it.

  • SHV

That is straight up racism, to quote Jeanine Garofalo.

  • Ferd Berfle

Yeah she’s the next one under. Oprah can’t be too far behind, either.

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I’m still trying to figure out that whole Bush thing. Just a BIT of a stretch…

I’m guessing Obama opening up the first White House Office of the Olympics didn’t help, either. But you hit it, Elizabeth – they will NEVER learn anything from this, and why they didn’t get it. The same way they showed absolutely no sense of decorum in other areas of diplomatic relations (remember the “gifts” they gave to the Browns of US Dvds – to a man losing his eyesight that he couldn’t play anyway – and two $10 helicopters from the WH Gift Shop when the Browns gave them thoughtful, historical, and considerate gifts?). They believe their own crafted hype, and it shows.

  • Ferd Berfle

    LMAO

  • Tricia Spiegel

Stupid is as stupid does. When I think of what that money coulod have done to help some struggling American families, it makes me sick!

  • Ferd Berfle

Stop the hope that Freedom Ferry will change fest!

Indeed, Donna. It’s akin to hey-moon-is-made-of-green-cheese fest.

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Well, and not for nothing, but the fact that Michelle’s speech included such factual inaccuracies designed for one thing – to pull at their heartstrings. Clearly, the IOC saw through that.

Maybe the IOC have been watching the news, too, and seeing the levels of violence in Chicago. Not to rag on Chicago, but I lived there, and one of my responsibilities was working on the Gang Task Force. It doesn’t seem like that has gotten much better. And the youth with whom I worked were very clear that there were parts of Chicago into which they absolutely would NOT go out of fear because of the color of their skin (they were largely of Hispanic origin).

But the fact that so many people who live there now didn’t want it speaks volumes…

  • http://www.sonicninjakitty.wordpress.com Sonic Ninja Kitty

Rio to Egobama: We won. Get over it. Bwahahaha!

Love the Obalympic rings, Amy! Thanks goodness we can trash those now :)

  • ImaLlindatoo

    roflmao

Only the koolaid drinkers could POSsibly think that. The reality world uh, reality, with the Obama’s singing “Me Me Me Me Me ME!” SO embarrassing.

Oh, you know they already had signs made up with those!! Thank HEAVENS we don’t have to see them, well, except to make fun of them!! :-D

  • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

Everyone ignored soup-for-brains yesterday when he/she posted this, obviously thinking it was a not even funny joke. This is an example of what happens when the weak minded hang out at Daily Kos or Huff&Puff.

Sad, really that one could be so deluded. Many of the bots have come closer to the light in the past few months…but there are always a few who come out from under the rock from time to time. Slither on, 0bot.

  • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

They’re gonna need a really big bus for Ophrey…maybe one just for her.

  • ImaLlindatoo

But, I AM shocked that they haven’t played the Race Card yet, as their normal modus operandi. Does that mean they have realized they’ve played the card too much and the false accusations have been worn thin?

  • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

But the committee members were all white, right? Obviously racism directed at the two black Americans giving the “presentation”. LOL.

  • ImaLlindatoo

And too, did someone clue in MEchelle when she chose to use the “sympathy card” with a tale of woe of her Dad, thinking that should synch the support, not realizing she wasn’t speaking about the challenges of the Special Olympics (that her husband chose to mock) and that many more have suffered than her tale which really had nothing to do with the argument for Olympics in Chicago?

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

But, but, but – Oprah’s the one who ANOINTED him as The One! He can’t possibly throw HER under the bus! That’d be like throwing his own grandmother under the bus! Oh, wait…

  • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

The dastardly duo looked pretty sulky and mopey last night for the anniversary date night. Must have shocked the hell out of them and now they have to try to save face. Not a good start…looking at the ground, sad and depressed. I’m surprised MEshill didn’t wear the black veil.

  • felizarte

I was thinking the same thing MWC. You beat me to it. About Ophrah, she was doing so well being a “post-racial” TV host but she regressed. Her mask is off; and so is her diet program. Now it shows in her ratings. I bet Glen Beck would beat her on a tow-to-toe time slot now.

I love that video, thank you for the smiles.

  • ImaLlindatoo

Excellent RRRA. LOVE that song and it is so fitting.

Oh, Barry’s smugness was shining bright, showing the world how shallow he is and that he truly has only the “symbol” to market and that he has bought his own marketing hype that he just needs to stand there for all to grant him his wish.

Can we just fly a statue of Obama around the world instead? It’s much cheaper and at least you won’t get his sarcasm thrown back atcha?

  • Peggy Sue

Nooooo. Freedom Fighter must be joshing us. No one could write that post and keep a straight face. This sounds like every lame excuse we’ve ever heard–the best speech evah, the FLOTUS the epitome of grace and elegance [don't believe your lying eyes] and the catch-all, last accusation of scoundrels: only racists would have done the dirty deed.

Fess up, FF. You’re kidding, right?

And if not? You need to check yourself into detox [those koolaide levels are dangerously high].

  • Susanne

    Stop with the RACE crap

  • felizarte

And I can’t believe they would have a night out to celebrate their anniversary a day after announcement of the unemployment rate, Chicago defeat, US lives lost in Afghanistan! Couldn’t they be just a little bit more sensitive to the feelings of 15 million unemployed Americans; the bereaved families? The victims of the natural disasters in the world?

Couldn’t they have found a private, romantic, quality dinner by candlelight at Camp David or the White House without mobilizing the security detail and that much more expense? Such juveniles! These two certainly exhibit spiritual or humane poverty. I am outraged.

APSA article on a one year study done by 20 political scientists, discontent with US not really lessened worldwide since arrival of Obama. The confidence in him does not arrest the distrust of US foreign policy.

Might there be a disconnect between Obama and the US in the minds of the world’s public? Wonder why.

Also, in foreign news, Anita Defranz, US Olympic committee member, stated the Obamas were the most popular, but the Olympic selection is not about popularity. mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm.

  • jangles

BTW—Valerie Jarrett is Beck’s latest Obama admin. target. Interesting that he has targeted ACORN, Van Jones and now Jarrett—all targets that the O team seems to be happy to throw under the bus. And they are all linked into Os radical past. Could it be that Beck is the secret agent of the Axelrove machine assigned to get rid of embarrassing friends?

OMG it was not about bringing the Olympics to America it was expecting them cos it’s his adopted home where he can walk out with his kids and his wife and her dad etc etc.
We are The United States of America. Not the place the homecoming Queen smiles & rides around town on her families coattails.

Those speeches were like listening to a column in a Family Circle magazine.

  • IndayHill

Freedom Fighter, you must be half asleep watching the boring “me me me” presentation of the Obama couple.
They MUST STOP the wasteful spending for themselves. Obama thinks only for himself. His sales pitched for Chicago was so immature. His job is for the nation and not for the city that is known for its’ dirty politics. That is the reason why he is the tenant of the WH. Obama needs to WORK !

  • http://www.hillarynme.com sportsone234

The IOC got it right … RIO was the best choice. The Obamas did a “piss poor” of representing us.

As one who has been in sports marketing for many years I can tell you Chicago missed a bullet. The city should count itself fortunate that the Games will not be hosted in their city.

    http://www.hillarynme.com/2009/10/03/bypassing-team-obama-chicago-for-2016-olympics-the-ioc-got-it-right/

i liked “tow-to-toe” better, as it evoked a picture in my head of oprah being “towed” on to her tv set by a semi truck, and then lowered into place by a barrage of industrial strength cranes and forklifts…

  • Witzend

Rev. Amy, after relentlessly criticizing this country for almost three years, I can’t imagine what possessed our Apologist-in-Chief to believe that the IOC wouldn’t detect such a glaring semblance of patriotism beneath Team BOMO’s vapid concatenation of platitudes.

It was only slightly less mortifying than the gift exchange with the Browns… but, then again, so is having a fist-bumping First Couple.

Sometimes I wonder about that jangles. I love Glenn Beck and I’m glad someone is willing to put some of the negatives about Odrama, but as I watched him tying together the Jarrett, Rezko crap, I couldn’t help but wonder why I knew those things early in 2008, and it took Beck this long? I’m going to cut him some slack, though. He was on CNN back then and maybe not being allowed to go negative they just didn’t waste time on the research and once he went to FOX, he could get on it, finally. I hope Beck’s a good guy. White house will replace Hail to the Chief.

Carly Simon – You’re So Vain Lyrics

    You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
    Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror
    As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they’d be your partner
    They’d be your partner, and

    You’re so vain
You probably think this song is about you
    You’re so vain
I’ll bet you think this song is about you
    Don’t you? Don’t you?

You had me several years ago
When I was still quite naive
Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
    Clouds in my coffee, and

    You’re so vain
You probably think this song is about you
    You’re so vain
I’ll bet you think this song is about you
    Don’t you? Don’t you?

I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
    Clouds in my coffee, and

    You’re so vain
You probably think this song is about you
    You’re so vain
I’ll bet you think this song is about you
    Don’t you? Don’t you?

Well, I hear you went up to Saratoga
    And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you’re where you should be all the time
And when you’re not, you’re with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and

    You’re so vain
You probably think this song is about you
    You’re so vain
I’ll bet you think this song is about you
    Don’t you? Don’t you?

Don’t know, maybe popular as in Brad Pitt cheats on Jolie, Madonna adopts a 26 year old, Tom and Katie love each more now than ever….did Me-chelle wear a dress two sizes too small, was Baracko punch drunk….like, dumb-dumb popular, I guess.

  • Margaret

No, I have to admit, I didn’t see those speeches that you speak of. What I saw was groveling, self-aggrandizing, condescending, naive, immature begging, “Oh, please Daddy can I have the Olympics, I really want it, and I’ll be a good girl if you give it to me!”. It was especially touching how Meeshelle talked extra slow so everyone could drink in what she thought of as her fabulousness, but instead was her pitifulness.

Likewise, I did not see the elegant and fashionable first lady you saw. I saw a woman dressed in a tacky gold outfit, who seemed to have forgotten to wear upper undergarments, who had a wide bow high on her waist like a schoolgirl, and who overall looked like a young man in drag, only young men in drag dress MUCH better than her and have much more graceful comportment.

I saw two adults behave like idiots, embarrassing themselves and their country, of which they have only recently become proud – after all, an Olympics in Chicago would line their pockets with more corrupt cash – oh goody!

So yes, I agree, it was certainly racist of the IOC not to permit the Obamas to persuade them to allow Chicago to raze neighborhoods and force taxpayers to pay for it. It’s terrible how the IOC is refusing to increase the tax burden of blacks. I’m heartbroken.

  • Margaret

She has the arms of a drag queen.

  • Anee

they did play the race card, I was watching the espn channel covering the olympic announcement and they had Rev. Jesse Jackson on and he was saying that there may be some “underlying” reason Chicago was rejected. also,
i saw uberroth (sp) on another channel explaining why rio won and he was saying that rio had just come off hosting a very successful pan am games and that gave them the edge. Rio had proven, in the IOC’s eyes, that it could handle a world class sporting event.

  • Margaret

I’ve read the transcripts of the speeches BO and MO gave, and it was ALL about ME, ME, ME. And, what the IOC could do for THEM. I think the best comment I have seen on this is was along the lines of …their speeches were great, if they were still community organizers begging for a grant for their latest pet project.
Everyone knows you sell your product, not yourself. I’m with Bill Kristol, who this morning, it was “amusing”.

if he passes gas in the Oval Office, everyone in the developed world will hear about it by day’s end.

How can one tell the difference between his passing of gas and his off-gassing? Whether he’s talking through his exhaust pipe or his face seems to make no difference with respect to understandability.

Robert Reich spoke about O over-exposing himself in a deliberate effort to monopolize the media: “if there’s a lull, he knows his opponents will jump in.”

The Copenhagen fiasco may have been part of O’s ‘Flasher’ strategy to drown out death panels, you lie!, the Joker, ACORN, etc.

    Gee, it backfired, huh?

Can we just fly a statue of Obama around the world instead?

Great idea. We could send those wretched columns with the statue, too.

Well Valerie Jarrett was boasting that after Michelle spoke there wouldn’t be a dry eye in the room. Maybe the IOC doesn’t like being played. This play doesn’t work so well without the cover of “the card”. Fail.

“There won’t be a dry eye in the room,” said Valerie Jarrett, who plans to travel with the first lady to Copenhagen for the Oct. 2 International Olympic Committee vote.

“I’m sure that it will touch the hearts of each of the IOC members,” Jarrett, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, said today in an interview.

Maybe next time they want to touch hearts… they might use somebody who visibly has one themself.

I just read your post now and I thought “good” when you said “And don’t blame me when it gets stuck in your head for days!” cause the song that has been stuck in my head for days is “The wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald”. But darn your link didn’t work so I am still stuck with Edmond.

“And later that night when the lights went out of sight came the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald”

Don Surber posted the translation from the Danish website Berlingske:

“The fact that Barack Obama came, could not do it. I think he lacked emotion, it seemed too empty and business-like. When Tony Blair promoted London he was around three days to lobby and talk to people. You can not just come with the train one day and try to affect everything. People have felt that it was a lack of respect for the Olympics and sport in general. I think people felt it was too business-like to get into the way we have now seen it many times, and you would have feelings back.”

Hans Bonde, professor of sport history at the University of Copenhagen, told the newspaper: “Here come the media favorite Obama just before the deadline and made showoff. He clearly won the battle in the media, but it turned out indeed to be indifferent. IOC members did not feel important, and they were indeed reduced to spectators and not players.”
    Danish News Ekstra Bladet agreed.
    Obama showed too much arrogance.

I don’t think she has any fashion sense at all. I believe she is being dressed by someone who thinks they can get her up in what they consider “fashionable” outfits without any regard for her body type. There’s definitely a way to draw attention away from the big butt and hips without making her look silly in the sleeveless dresses every time she appears. Her legs are looking heavier too; skirts need to cover just below the knee…not a good feature either.

If she weren’t so full of herself and arrogant for no reason, I would feel sorry for her. Can you remember any other POTUS and FLOTUS being so egotistical? Most are humble when they move into the WH.

I don’t know if they will throw Val under the bus. She has been with them since she hired Michelle to work for Daleys office (after of course her fiancee Barky met with Val to make sure it was ok for Michelle to work for). She probably knows all the secrets the Obamas are trying to hide.

That’s so funny you did that; I was just about to post those exact lyrics!

No; the Olympians and the spectators missed the bullet. Even Mayor Daley could not fudge those crime statistics so close to the day of the decision.

The IOC are just a bunch of spoiled horses asses and Obama was damned if he did and damned if he did not go.

As far as I am concerned Obama did the right thing, and did not spend more than a few hours in Copenhagen unlike some of the other World leaders who spend a few days there…

  • http://www.tomdegan.blogspot.com Tom Degan

The right wing is positively giddy that the United States will not be hosting the Olympics. Seriously, has it dawned on you yet how utterly despicable these people are? I was just wonderin’.

The main goal of the GOP these days is to insure that President Obama’s administration is a complete and utter failure. They want to see as many Americans as possible suffer in the next three years, thus, ensuring that they will be able to seize control of the executive branch in 2013. If the president succeeds in making life better for his countrymen and women, they fail. It’s as simple as that. Mitch McConnell, to his credit, always looks quite uncomfortable when he is forced to justify policies as atrocious as those being put forward these days by that hideous party. But Cantor always has a serene, angelic smile on his face whenever he is forced to defend the morally indefensible – sort of like last week, at a Town Hall meeting when he told a woman whose mortally ill relative had been left bankrupt by her medical bills that she should rely on charity. He seemed so content with himself. Quite strange really.

    Tom Degan:
“The main goal of the GOP these days is to insure that President Obama’s administration is a complete and utter failure”.
Obama needs absolutely no help in succeeding with the above goal. He is failing quite on his own. He has majorities in both house and senate, and just what has he accomplished? As SNL said: jack-squat!
Obama and his administration (and wife) are colossal natural disasters who can’t seem to do anything right. I question their motives. I for one will not forgive his apologizing to the world for us. He is America’s Neville Chamberlain!
The GOP is right in not going along with Obama’s poorly thought out schemes. He is costing us money, our children’s money and our grandchildren’s money and the GOP will not be a party to further damaging the future of this country.
You betcha we are going to work hard to take back the White House in 2012. Even if we don’t succeed in that, we can neuter Obama by having majorities in both house and senate.
    Out, out damned spot.

Which oddly enough brings us back to the election and the abandonment of McCain by the hard right. They would rather have Obama and his failures than for a more moderate McCain to win. Politics is our main problem right now. The system is broken, because the system is completely self serving and self perpetuating. It is past the tail wagging the dog, in fact the dog can no longer support the tail and at best can drag the tail behind it as it struggles to survive with such a grand tail. I agree with the other reply in that Obama owns his own failure. That failure is his alone. I take issue with the far right, but compared to the far left they appear messianic right now. That is our hell. That is what our politics as given us. That is where we are.

    Thanks, ImaLindatoo! Great comment!

  • Ferd Berfle

I agree, elizabethrc. That One needs no assistance in making his Administration a complete and utter failure any more than Bush needed assistance.

The current POTUS, his plethora of Czars, his foul-tempered wife, and his fawning bots are making a mockery of themselves without the need of the loyal opposition.

Cooler heads tried to warn the supporters of That One (all 69,000,000 of them) but they insisted on having him as POTUS–so they’re going to have to own him, all his failures, current and to come, and the really bumpy ride ahead for all of us. When the dust settles, I’ll be more than happy to tell the lot of them, “I told you so”.

  • Ferd Berfle

Which oddly enough brings us back to the election and the abandonment of McCain by the hard right. They would rather have Obama and his failures than for a more moderate McCain to win.

You’re so right on this, docelder. I was dumbfounded at the lack of support of McCain. I voted for McCain because I believed he was best for the country–I didn’t care what his position on every single issue was. Apparently the hard-right wanted all or none…

and we all got none as a consequence.

  • elizabethrc

Is it possible they know that they will not have all of these advantages of the Presidency very long? It’s possible they’re trying to take as much as they can get while it’s there for the taking. They seem like grubby little children left loose in a candy store.

  • http://www.vitabits.fr/mincir/ recettes minceur

For whatever reason I usually equate the Olympics with tourism. Chicago is a nice city, but Rio seems more exotic than the other 3 cities combined. I didn’t think they’d win because of their corruption and high crime rate, but then again the Olympics made a point by going into China and the World Cup made a point by going into South Africa. Maybe this group wanted to put their own stamp on the selection process.

On the other hand the selection process is still probably pretty corrupt. I remember a quote from one of the Salt Lake City guys saying they had to spend at least as much as the Japanese did. He wasn’t talking about facilities, he was talking about brides…heh.
