When, in the course of U. S. Presidential Elections, it becomes necessary for one portion of a political party to assume among the people of the nation a position different from that which they have previously occupied, but one to which the laws of nature and of their Constitution entitle them, a decent respect for the opinions of fellow citizens requires that they should declare the causes that impel them to such a course.

In agreement with generations who have gone before us, we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal; that they are endowed at birth with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these rights governments are instituted, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of those who suffer from it to refuse allegiance to it, and to insist upon the institution of a new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form as to seem most likely to affect their safety and happiness.

Prudence will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for transient causes; and accordingly experience has shown that citizens are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the political structures to which they are accustomed. But political parties are not governments, and when a long train of abuses and usurpations evinces a design to reduce them under authoritarianism, it is their duty to throw off such a political party, and to provide different representation for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of many in the Democratic Party, and it is this suffering which compels them to now demand the representation to which they are entitled. The recent history of both parties is a history of repeated injuries on the part of elected officials against the electors, having in direct object the establishment of authoritarian power over them, for the purpose of profit. This has rendered the Democratic Party unrecognizable to ordinary citizens. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.

Objections

The members of the Democratic National Committee’s Rules and By-Laws Committee violated The DNC charter on May 31, 2008 by meeting in private, in direct violation of the Sunshine Rules Provision of said Charter.

On that same day, the Democratic Party grossly violated ethical standards when it awarded four delegates to candidate Barack Obama based on actual votes for candidate Hillary Clinton, and in addition, awarded him delegates based on votes for “Uncommitted.”

Earlier in the campaign season, the Democratic Party violated its own Delegate Selection Rules by applying penalties to only two states who broke Section 11 calendar rules, even though five states broke those rules. In addition, Florida and Michigan were originally stripped of 100% of their delegates, even though the rules stipulated a 50% penalty.

The decisions of the RBC meeting mentioned above are evidence of sexism and authoritarianism within the ranks of the Democratic Party.

Caucuses area violation of the one-person, one-vote and secret ballot principles that have been cornerstone Democratic values for more than a century. They produced a skewed and unfair result this primary season. Caucus states are also over-represented in the pledged delegate count, in violation of the one-person, one-vote principle.

Sexism was allowed to flourish as never before not only because of the behavior of the mainstream media, but also by the actions of many in the progressive online community, the stark silence of the Democratic Leadership and because ordinary Americans, male and female, engaged in it as long as it advanced their favored candidate.

Barack Obama and his campaign exploited racial issues in the primary campaign, which risks setting back the Civil Rights movement, and cynical Democratic leaders, as well as some ordinary Democrats, approved of this campaign tactic.

The voices of 18 million voters who supported Hillary Clinton have been illegitimately silenced, ridiculed, and subjected to outright fabrications on the part of the mainstream press and the Internet press.

The evidence is present, for anyone who wants to see it, that authoritarian tendencies fueled by greed are on the rise in the Democratic Party.

Now, in view of the dismissal of one-half the Democratic voters of this primary season, their social degradation, in view of the unjust actions above mentioned, and in view of the disenfranchisement of the voters in two states, and because we do feel ourselves aggrieved, oppressed, and fraudulently deprived of a free and fair primary election, we insist that the Democratic Party address our objections, or risk the loss of our votes come November.

In entering upon the work before us, we anticipate no small amount of misconception, misrepresentation, and ridicule; but we will use every instrumental within our power to affect our objectives. We will employ agents, circulate tracts and flyers, blog, advertise in all media, petition state and national Democratic leadership, and endeavor to enlist the press in our behalf.

Resolutions

Resolved, that the Democratic Party must seat the full Michigan and Florida delegation in adherence to the thoroughly Democratic principle of one-person, one-vote.

Resolved, that Michigan delegates must be awarded according to the actual votes cast, specifically that Hillary Clinton must be given 73 delegates and Barack Obama must be given 0 (zero).

Resolved, that Hillary Clinton’s name must be offered on the first roll call at the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August of 2008, in accordance with tradition for 16 of the last 18 Democratic National Conventions.

Resolved, that caucuses should be abolished, and the Democratic Primary system in its entirety must be reformed to better reflect the one-person, one-vote principle, as well as the equal representation principle enshrined in the Constitution.

Resolved, that millions of women and men alike no longer think of the Democratic Party as the party for women’s issues, or for equality and fairness, or for the protection of abortion rights, and will no longer vote for them based on such criteria.

Resolved, that the cynical exploitation of cultural issues will not be rewarded with votes, and that it is part of the PUMA mission to educate the electorate about such abuses.

Resolved, that the PUMA movement is comprised of traditional and loyal Democrats who have carefully watched and recorded the events of the 2008 Primary campaign season.

Resolved, that 18 million Americans voted for Hillary Clinton, more than any other presidential primary candidate in history, and they have a right to help shape the agenda and processes of the Democratic Party.

Call to Action

Like The Declaration of Independence and The Declaration of Sentiments, this document was originally authored by one author, and modified by others in agreement. The final document then is one of the community, and not the original author. When this document is posted tonight, it will be available for use without attribution. Claim it as your own, because it belongs to you, and you had a hand in shaping it.

And like the Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of Sentiments, change doesn’t just happen in the presence of text. It’s what people do with that text, the life they give it, how it changes them, and the facts on the ground that creates lasting change. So take this document, copy and paste it to as many places online as you can find. Print it out and mail it to your local congressional critters. Mail or e-mail copies to the DNC and the Obama campaign. Somebody, for goodness sakes, please e-mail a copy to Hillary Clinton.

And late Sunday night, after the sun has gone down, take a page from Martin Luther’s play book and print it out, take it down to your local Democratic Party Headquarters or your local Obama Campaign Headquarters and TAPE IT TO THEIR DOOR. Make sure it is there for them as a wake up call when they arrive for work on Monday morning. Make your voices heard by getting out and getting involved. It’s your movement. How are you going to move it?

Make his Words Ring Loud and Clear! Let’s prove him right!

Let “HIS” words come to Life in the 21st Century!

Mark your Calendars for the summer evening when Hillary comes to the podium in Denver to speak and to say: I accept the nomination of my Party and will be honored to lead you back to a path of peace and prosperity.

    Right On! Hillary 2008!

Thank you Dr. King! We hear you still. Loud and Clear, Sir!

  • thetownecrier

Outstanding, just outstanding. This Declaration of PUMA objections sums up so well.

Thank you Pagan Power and ALL who contributed and will push it full steam ahead!

  • Happy Independence Day!

That phrase has more importance today than any time in recent history.

Especially for those who were formerly Democrats: who either were thrown under the bus by the Chicago Combine, or those who voluntarily declared they were no longer Democrats on May 31, 2008 (or before or later) because the Democratic Party no longer represented the ideals on which it was founded.

For all those who are either no longer Democrats or those who are hanging on to the shredded remnants of what was once the Democratic Party in hopes that they may realize in Denver the reconstitution of the party, one thing you have in common is your Independence.

You have your Independence from the Tyranny of Oppression by the Will of the Party Elites.

You have your Independence of Thought, Word and Deed.

You have your Independence from Undemocratic Processes.

You have your Independence to declare a New Union.

No matter how you arrived at the point where you declared your Independence from the oppression of Donation Without Representation (a voluntary form of taxation) and Election Without Representation (called Voter Suppression), you are now part of a New Union.

A New Union formed of Independent Thinkers who oppose the Party Elites in their call for Party Unity.

This New Union recognizes that this so-called Party Unity is nothing more than a guise for; a Winning at all Costs Coalition that will therein destroy the once Noble Democratic Party.

This New Union understands that real Unity is the shared idea that placing Country before Party is the truest and most noble voice of Independence and Democracy!

I salute you all today, you New Union of true American Independents.

Today is truly your and our Independence Day.

AS someone who worked as a DFA activist in Oklahoma, let me tell you that when the state precinct elections are held again I strongly suggest that PUMAs submit all of the above resolutions for inclusion in their state platforms.

Every 2 years every state elects their local Democratic hierarchy. It is important to “get involved” because in doing that, actual hands on, you have a voice. If you don’t, DFA and HDs corruption will continue. It WILL NEVER STOP unless there are enough people to argue the more democratic position.

further, if you don’t get involved…if HD wants the chairmanship, it will be his. I suggest you find out when the next election cycle is in your state, stand for precinct chair and SHOW UP TO YOUR COUNTY AND STATE monthly meetings. This is how DFA managed to manipulate B.O. into this “anointment”. P.U.M.A. needs to organize and show up on the ground if it wants to take this party back from the idiots who are destroying it.

  • C.S.

THIS is what Democracy is about.

During Bush’s reign his loyal followers said the Constitution was “just a piece of paper” and not relevant today’s world but this document just proves that the “paperwork” our Founding Fathers left us is living, adaptable documents that can easily be used to addresses any grievance. Ben Franklin would be proud.

Those that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

We’ve given up far too much of both this past decade.

  • Jacklyn Flynn

Thank you for the very clear objections and very pro-active resolutions! I am printing several copies to send to the DNC elite and to take to my local office on Sunday evening.

I believe that the numbers are underestimated also. I wouldn’t rely on any of the MSM for fair and accurate reporting of anything at this point…especially CNN which is an embarrassment to the ideal of unbiased reporting.

It appears to be up to the blogosphere to get PUMAs message out to all of us who support the cause. Thank you noquarter for your part in advacing the cause!

    • sjc-tx

Problem is that ALOT of folks just don’t GO ONLINE. They haven’t a clue all this is out there. We need to do more traditional things. Ya know… the old fashioned way!

      • Zee

That’s why we’ll be posting this on the street….handing out fliers….posting on bulletin boards at libraries, grocery stores and coffee shops.

  • robert

There is not much to add here except that I read this in solemn silence and acknowledge as all PUMAS do that this Internet movement means a radical change in the way we do politics in America. The movement has touched ground now and is spreading throughout the nation to average citizens who like us have been inspired to rise up, throw their heads back and say, No I Won’t!

  • Oh crap, you printed that part. Sorry to be redundant….

    • Susaninbosque

Nothing you have said is redundant in the least!!! I need to post a huge thank you for all of this work and the correct statements which could not have been better IMHO.

I am a disabled 60 yr old with a PhD who is unemployed and am currently in so much pain that this thank you will be so much shorter than what is in my mind and heart. And whomever said – upthread – that They. Don’t. Get. It. is so correct. I am far more angry than I have ever been in my life and I lived through great personal pain with the Vietnam war. But there is nothng to compare to this anger. It is an anger that gets hotter all the time.

We have been living in a slow motion political coup since the election of 2006 made everything we had hoped for empty and vacant. So many people believed they were voting for Dems and got Repubs disguised as Dems (Pelosi and gang). Or even worse, corporate allegiance disguised as Dems. They believe everyone and everything can be purchased. But I can’t and won’t be. Too angry and too afraid of losing the country I hold dear.

But even my deep cynicism could could not have predicted this… and yet it is no surprise, like we had seen it coming in slow motion now hadn’t we???

But now we really must stand up to the idea that we can remain stupid and be bought off.

      • While I am moved by the response to all of this, I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to you. Your message meant a lot to me. I’m sorry you had to endure pain to communicate it. And I thank you for your anger, because that is what gave birth to this movement. Your anger, my anger, the collective anger of, near as I can tell, over 8 million people (46% of 18 million). These are people paying attention, the watchful PUMAs in the Democratic party. Thank you, thank you, thank you all for paying that attention.

    CNN’s Bill Schneider today stated
Clinton supporters are in the 3rd stage
of the 5 stages of grief.

“But the question remains whether Obama can win enough Democrats without Clinton as his No. 2.
“If he doesn’t pick her, a later stage of grief is depression and then acceptance,” Schneider said. “In the end I expect Clinton supporters will accept Obama, because they will listen to Sen. Clinton, who has said the stakes are too high for Democrats to sulk.”

Excellent……if Hillary were to get the nomination(one can always hope) that would be great. But to stay home does not accomplish keeping Obama out of the White House. If Hillary is to run again in 2012…vote McCain, more likely than not, he would be a one-term president thereby opening the door! Please don’t sit this one out!

And may I suggest that a copy of this Declaration be tucked into the self addressed, prepaid mailers that we indvidually receive from the DNC and/or Obama campaign requesting contributions? The Declaration is a fitting reply.

The CNN survey doesn’t state how many dems will vote for McCain. They must be afraid to show that number!

    Great job PUMA!

It is my view we must elect McCain if Hillary is not the nominee. I will be urging the stay at home people to not stay home and vote for McCain for the good of our country. I still believe Hillary has a chance if we keep up the pressure. So great job PUMAs! We can’t afford another 8 years of Bush (Obama).

yeah, BOBO’s pledge to expand the chimps faith program handouts hasn’t gone over all that well.

Quite simply it was because it showed that the PUMA was nothing but a rabid kitten.

I am an American First before placing my loyalty to any one Politcal Party. I voted for Hillary Clinton in the Primary in the State of Ohio. I have been waiting 8 years for her to run for President. I have never been passionate about politics until now. I researched Obama and found him lacking in the qualities I want in my President. Hillary Clinton did not even begin to touch on enough or deeply enough on these issues to even blame her or President Clinton for BO’s problems. He did it to himself when he made foolish remarks about Americans being of lower class clinging to their religion and guns. WE didn’t know the man until he said those offensive words. Then we have Rev. Wright saying God Damn America and BO’s race speech that was lacking in what needed to be addressed. More at:
