My Letter to the Editor re a Democratic Superdelegate’s Threats

Dear Mr. Moore:

I have recently submitted a letter to the editor concerning a Sacramento-area Democratic superdelegate. I quoted his exact remarks where he threatened voters with a concentration camp stay if they did not vote for Obama.

I was so disturbed by his remarks that I called him, and received an earful of profanities, insults and threats. This is very disturbing to be greeted by this kind of profanity when a simple question was asked of him.

I felt it my duty to report this in his local newspaper, and I have reported him to the Democratic National Committee.

I wanted you to know about this and to feel comfortable in calling me if there is any problem with this letter. I have all the backup documentation you need.

Here is my letter:

Editor:

Recently democratic superdelegate Steven J. Ybarra, of Sacramento, California, threatened voters with a concentration camp stay if they did not vote for Obama.

Here is what this lawyer said when asked by a number of people to consider new information about Obama that may make him unqualified to be the President of the United States:

“Good for you, when the fascists come in the middle of the night to take you to a concentration camp, remember how you voted. Take me off your whiner list.”

I called this individual to express my concern and received the same, threatening response from him, marked by yelling, threats, and profanities.

Is this the kind of superdelegate the democrats are relying on? Is this the way to get a vote for Obama, threaten voters with a concentration camp stay?

This man does not represent what I know to be the Democratic party. He should be ashamed of himself, sanctioned, and should know better, as a lawyer, to make threats against voters. It is undemocratic and represents conduct unbecoming of a super delegate.

With a threat like this from Mr. Ybarra, you can be sure my vote will not be for Barack Obama.

        Now Obama is threatening to have 75,000 of his thugs in Denver at a football stadium during the Dem Convention – just to adore him and sing his praises.

        How much of a threat do you think this is for any wavering Clinton supporter delegates to know there is a football stadium full of angry, profane and vicious Obama fanatics?

        I swear Obama threatened the DNC with a Chicago convention style mess if he was not handed the nomination and the Dems were scared out of their chickenliver minds to think they could again blow an election that should be theirs in a walk.

        I am sure that is why the powers that be made their Obama decision so early in the game that no matter what Clinton did, no matter how many important states she later won, no matter what her popular vote or red state advantage, the threat of angry Obamaniacs disrupting the DNC convention was more than they could handle.

        Hillary fans, see you all in Denver to show we still care about democracy with a small D and democrats with a big D.

              Based on her family and scouring those numbers she decided that the religious right was the wealth of voters to tap.

              It seems that is why she has been so insulting to anyone who doesn’t speak that language in those emails.

              She wrote off blue collar workers last election and considered them too racist to vote for Obama anyway, but those southern religious racists…let’s tap that well.

        Though I certainly agree that Mr. Ybarra’s profanity over the phone is unprofessional, (we should expect no better from these assholes) this specific quote seems misunderstood. If Ybarra said exactly what he said, it seems to me that his conclusion regarding “the fascists” is more along the lines of his expectation that Obama will lose, thus freeing the fascists to come and get US in the middle of the night.
        When they fear something, it is usually because it is what they would do if they could, thus causing them to believe that their opponents would do it to them.
        It never dawns on them that decent people don’t think that way.

          This point is right on the money. Psychologicaly people have a hard time seeing that others’ behavior’s to be anymore upstanding than their own, a defense mechanism.
          It is like when you see an overtly jealous lover being constanly suspicous of their partner, the one who is suspicous is the odds on favorite to be the adulterer.

          yes, no matter how I interpreted it, he will still have to explain it. So:

          –if he’s calling republicans fascists (no argument there),then how is that a ‘new kind of politics’ aka obambi? how is that going to help obamba?

          –if he means it as a threat it still is inappropriate.

          either way the guy is on record…in a public way.

        Did anyone see Obama’s 12 second ad in Texas during the primary? He talked about rounding up of Muslim’s in the middle of the night, by the US Gov.

        Obama and his tribe are fear mongers among their many other atrocious behaviors. After all in college he was looking for a tribe, looks like he has found it.

      I want a new party. The Republicans were taken over by the right wing of the party, and the Democrats by Obama and his supporters, not the left. I’ve been a member of the left and I believe in stopping the FISA overhaul, in getting out of Iraq ASAP and the separation of church and state. Obama does not represent the left but himself and a group of people that don’t believe in democracy.

      This man seems to suffer from sociopathic structures, if not a disorder, if the email I am refering to is not an isolated glitch. Of course, as with many of these personality disorders, the environment suffers more than the person himself.

      To be active for the Obama camp gives people like this a ideal playfield and nurtures their agressive behaviour. Obama seems to foment it??? That is dangerous in many ways!

    I am a person who despises Obama. However that may be, the superdelegate meant that if you do not vote for Obama, you will see fascists coming to your door – meaning the right-wing types, not the left-wing ones run by Obama. It is a commonly held belief that fascists have taken over this country since Bush got into office. Even though I agree with much of what you say and would find it grievous to have Obama for POTUS, I am having a hard time with your interpretation of this idiot superdelegate’s quote.

    You are right in penning your letter to the Editor and I applaud you for that, but I think you are misinterpreting the profligate’s intent.

      My recollection of the original concern was that Ybarra was evoking an image that would intimidate people connected with migrants.

      On another note, he certainly fits the profile of the Obama supporters we encounter.

        As far as voting is concerned: I’m afraid that I’ll have to sit this one out folks. I cannot stomach voting for Obama and I can’t in good conscience vote for McCain as he doesn’t conform with my ideas on health care and other pertinent issues.

              I think, no matter how we all actually vote on Nov 4th, we should all SAY we’re voting McCain. I think the DNC and blah blah are more worried about cross over votes than 3rd party or saying home. That’s what all the intimidation tactics do IMO.               Racism is the only reason offered not to vote for Obama, nevermind his spineless record or associates.

              While McKinney has a record of not being a coward in office, so it points out his deficiencies and negates their racism accusations.

              With everything so insane….people are being threatened at work if they don’t go along or issues with family and friends. It is a suggestion that many people probably haven’t considered.

              Most of my family seems to be voting for Obama. But I am leaning towards McCain, just to block him and his associates.

              However, I could see stating or voting McKinney if people needed cover from friends, family and work. Some people don’t have the strength to stand up in the middle of such a river and say no. It isn’t insane it is the sad reality that Obama has created.

I have called the DNC and told them to quit sending me stuff. They will not get a dime from me but of course, as always, my great “leaders” are not listening.             It doesn’t matter what you call it. Those of the fringe will in the end behave like all others on the fringe. Fascist and socialist/communist are just names. The only difference that could be made between the two in the twentieth century was their economic models. But even these are no longer true. The commies has shed the state owned model and adopted the fascist model of capitalism controlled by a one party state. We get lost in the linear political model of left and right when for all practical reality left and right no longer exist. It’s become the center vs. the extreme. The US constitution is the center point to any political model in this country and it is the thing we must preserve or we will ultimately end up as an entity of the new fringe left/fringe right merger.

It was with a woman whose son had just deployed and when the interviewer asked her about her son she said, “he’s over there so I won’t have to wear a burka.”Where do people come up with this stuff?                 The problem is each “party” be it Dem, Repub or Socialist, gives the party a bad name because they argue platforms to the extreme and feel that consensus-building is for the weak. Almost any idea is workable if you can sit down and work out the most objectionable parts. That is what the Clintons excel at and why Bill’s approval rating at the end of his 2nd term was 69%. This is also why however that the FRINGE of both Dems and Repubs HATE them. We PUMAs however have had this epiphany that has driven us to separate ourselves from the FRINGE. We may very well be initiating a historical political paradigm shift. …or at least I can hope so.

Plenty of proof he did it right on the internet. The 9th district ruled you can swap your votes, it was part of your constitutional right. It didn’t say you could sell them.

According to my memory of the article, Obama paid super delegate Ted Kennedy $18,000, Byrd about $10,000 and many others ranging from $15,000 to 2,000 for their votes.       There was a story on FOX news this weekend about a very young voter trying to sell his vote on ebay. Apparently he is being charged or theatened with a charge in doing this by the feds. The young man’s lawyer was interviewed for the piece. It appears that Ybarra is doing the same thing here. So why no flap (yet) over his sale? 20MM is a lot more than the other guy’s price. I think his bid started at 10.00. He didn’t have any takers.

There seems to be a more militant or aggressive attitude and approach this primary season. People are unhappy with the war, the economy, with congress. I don’t know, such hate, misogyny.           There is more aggression and less respect. It’s hard to believe the misogyny was not there to begin with, but the media, the DNC and the Obama camp. have made it acceptable. People like Rush Limbaugh began with the insulting comments about feminism. I don’t remember any member of msn objecting to the femi nazi word or statements about women who support equal rights being lesbians. It’s seems it’s ok with the media and the DNC.         You can put JD behind your name if you graduated from a law school and Calif has plenty of night law schools not accredited by the American Bar Association.

        These schools often have a very poor pass rate for the California Bar Exam, so one wonders if just being granted a JD (Juris Doctorate) is really enough if you can’t pass the CA Bar Exam too.

        So Ybarra is not incorrect to add the JD if this is what he actually earned. But to call himself a “lawyer” without passing the CA bar exam is a bit disingenuous. Though 50% of all law grads do not ever practice law.

    After the first term of “Slick Willy”, I found myself asking similar questions but stuck it out as a democrat, even to the point of supporting Al Gore for President (mostly because he is the ONLY major Presidential candidate with an A+ rating with the Americans for Better Immigration). But when that TRAITOR, John Kerry was put on the ticket, it was the last straw. I hoped parties and watched as the concerns I had with the democrats multiplied ten….no, a hundred fold.

    Did I agree with everything Bush did? No. But, let me tell you, I never regretted switching affiliations. And I don’t think anyone else would either. Not unless MAJOR reform happens in the party. And I don’t see that happening.

    43 Percent of registered Democrats polled still say they would prefer Clinton to be the party’s presidential nominee. That number is significantly higher than it was in early June, when 35 percent of Democrats polled said they preferred Clinton to lead the party’s presidential ticket.

    Obama won 59 percent of support from registered Democrats polled in June; now he garners 54 percent.

    It won’t get any better, only worse.

    The fix is in but not for Obama to win, but for McCain to win. Look up George Soros’ donations. They are all to Democrats except for one Republican, John McCain. George Soros wants his friend McCain in the White House that’s why they needed the weaker candidate to run against him. It was never about getting Obama elected but rather making sure Hillary didn’t.         He could have just as easily said he was giving it to Fiengold. He was also part of the program. Soro’s donated to the project. He also donated to help fund the legal defense against trying to defeat it. It was a liberal project, many liberals and conservatives donated to it. He hasn’t donated anything to him for his campaign. I believe the Kerry’s also donated to it. Here you go, I knew I’d read something on it.

    Clinton supporters (and others) who feel that the democratic election process has been grossly violated by members of either the Democratic or Republican party have several options available including the ones I have listed below…

    People may be tired of being held hostage to a two party system in this country.

    People may decide to support/create reputable, principled third party candidate system…

    while they still can legally do this in our country…

    Nader/Gonzalez ticket looking better to many each day) in an effort to try and expand the two party system in US;

    Dem party voters may also choose to look at McCain more closely-and study HIS background-noting the fact that MANY Republicans can’t stand the guy because he does think on his own and doesn’t always blindly follow Republican ideology- he is guided by his values and principles when making choices. The voters may not agree with McCain’s choices BUT they trust McCain’s sense of values and principles.

    When people have to make a choice between a rock and a hard place, they may boil down their decision to which place will provide more security and safety for them.

    Who do they trust more based upon his past actions and decisions- even though they may not agree with that person all the time.

    The voters won’t just stay home this November and not vote…They have choices…and they will vote.

    It is frightening as to how little many of the Obama supporters really knew about Sen Obama when they cast their support for him. Who…or what…did they think they were supporting?

    I also received a nasty email reply from my SD mailing back in March. Was shocked that someone in such a position would resort to name calling and insults. Could tell he had not even read my thoughful, polite letter.

    Then, at Larry Sinclair site, a month later, I found a copy of the same email reply posted – from the same SD – to another voter who wrote an entirely different letter.

    Researched and found, to dismay, that email went out apparently as reply to all Hillary supporters! Searched and identified that SD is also a prestigious attorney!!! However, since it even had poor sentence structure and a misspelling, I figured he turned over his computer to an obamanot, just couldn’t be bothered with we, piddly voters.

    I wrote the DNC – and sent a copy – got no reply. Big surprise. Glad to hear this one sounds like it will go more public.

    My husband who is a financial planner/CPA has been reading a lot about George Soros and his PPPs. If you Google the public/private partnerships and Soros you’ll be educated about. My husband’s theory as to why Soros is backing Obama (sorry it’s long):

    Obama is backed by people whose interests are more closely aligned with revitalizing America through public/private partnerships which will allow Soros, cronies and customers to benefit from the privitization of America’s public assets.

    For example, our crumbling infrastructure will become the poster child for what public/private partnerships can fix. Don’t worry about Obamites and their concentration camp threats against Clinton supporters but worry more about why zillionaires are backing such a vacuous candidate as Barack Obama.

    Once Obama has the push of the “people” behind him, he will pick up the baton for rebuilding America and make himself look like an individual hero while he sells the future rights to our bridges and highways that will increasingly become tollways in the hands of private corporations who will suck away the capital needed to build the next round of infrastructure. This will effectively make us all “renters” of that which we once owned and our inept government officials at all levels will sit greedily at this table of plenty.

    Just realize that in the long run we’re not paying ourselves for these improvements, we’re paying someone else. Soros will not be building concentration camps but will be bringing you steel and asphalt for the next 75 years and after that we’ll be lucky to have a country to call our own whether or not we vote about it. We’ll be stuck to the tit of private equity and government will become its whore.

    This is not as scary or Orwellian as concentration camps and thought police but it is a far more practical and plausible outcome of this campaign, if it succeeds. Big money capitalists (Soros & company) are backing Obama because he has something they want. He looks like the people’s man and he can sell their stuff because he has their confidence. Just listen to him talk about pulling back from space.

    The average voter that he is pulling in appears to be young, relatively naive, and usually a property-less urban liberal who thinks that the only evil is war for resources being fought by the neocons. It is hard for Obamites to imagine that their leader could really be a shill for those who want to capitalize the U.S. for private profits and they need a REAL non-patriot to let them in the door.

    Obamites really have a problem seeing America as we do, as a sacred place that should be defended from foreign interests. They’ll be willing to sell out in a heartbeat if Obama says “yes, we can” and points at your local bridges and highways.

    The bottom line is that it will divert attention to America and it will look like a positive change so it will be really easy to rally the public around the concept.

    Don’t be worried about punk Obamites coming to your door. Be concerned instead about Barack and his backers fixing America for you on his watch with magic capital from private sources.

      I don’t have the facts in front of me right now, but wasn’t there a recent vote in PA to put down the sale of one of their highways to a foreign buyer who would have maintained that stretch of roadway but turn it into a toll road? I am probably wrong about the details, but I think the overall story is right.

      I’m surprised no one else here has replied to this comment. This is the same sort of corporate idea behind ownership/naming/advertising for our civic sports arenas all around the country. For example, our football stadium in Seattle used to be the “King Dome” named after King county. Now it’s “Qwest Field” named after a telecom company. It was during these corporate buyups of all sports venues that the buzz in newspapers across the country was whether or not corporations would try to do the same thing to national parks and other placed owned by the people. They also worried about moon advertising.

      This is not only not out of the realm of possibility, but in fact extremely possible. We’ve already seen the purchase of US mineral rights being bought for pennies on the dollar by foreign nationals. These are things we didn’t even think our government had the right to sell.

      More work needs to be done on this information to get it into the MSM.

    Ybarra was a teacher of mine a long time ago at Sac city college. Honestly, he was the WORST teacher I have EVER had!!! I complained to the Sac dean about him because he locked his students out of the classroom if they were late. He was soooo awful, he didn’t teach at all. He’s a big fat pig.

    Ybarra made news on FOX not too long ago because he wanted to “sell his vote to the highest bidder.” Remember? He wanted 20 million or something like that, from either BO or Hillary.

    As soon as I saw that a superdelegate was being a tool, I thought it was going to be him again! I wrote FOX a when they wrote about him trying to sell his vote. Of course, there isn’t much I can say, except that I knew him, and he is a huge phony.

    I don’t recall him ever saying he was a lawyer. I find that claim doubtful.

    Although now is the perfect time for a viable 3rd party, there isn’t a candidate that would have a chance. It would only siphon votes and allow an Obama Presidency. John McCain does NOT have the support of the evangelical base. There’s a reason for that. Obama is courting them. As long as the evangelicals don’t support McCain, I can vote for him. So unless Clinton becomes the Democratic nominee, I will vote for John McCain, my very first Republican vote in my 50 years. I now realize why the Republicans have been screaming about voter fraud the last few years. I had thought they were crazy. Notice how the Democratic Congress never addressed the voting machine problem and when we in Florida did and insisted on a paper trail of all votes cast, we were disenfranchised by the Democratic Party.

    All of my family in Northern California were interned for being Japanese Americans during WWII. They were proud citizens of the US, whose children fought bravely during WWII, many of whom lost their lives. They came home to find that their land and businesses were gone and faced horrible prejudice. They couldn’t get jobs and they couldn’t get loans, even though many of them were awarded medals for bravery during the war. It took many years of hard work to prove their patriotism and I am proud to say that they are upstanding members of their community.

    I can’t believe that Ybarra, knowing full well the extent of the large, close-knit Japanese American community in the Sacramento area, would make a statement about being hauled off to concentration camps in the middle of the night. As someone else mentioned earlier, he must be going insane.

    I also had a personal experience with Mr. Ybarra. I emailed him after he publicly switched his endorsement from Senator Clinton to Senator Obama. His response was that he did so because Patti Solis-Doyle was let go and he took it as a personal insult to all Hispanics. As a Hispanic woman I could not disagree with him more. My response to Mr. Ybarra was that in my estimation Ms. Solis-Doyle did not reasonably perform in her duties as campaign manager to Senator Clinton. Politics is of course not always pleasant business, and matters of great magnitude like a presidential election, the bigger picture is what we must not lose sight of. As he should know very well, politics as in life, business is business. We know for a fact now that after Ms. Solis-Doyle was let go, Senator Clinton continued with greater success in election victories. Yet, Mr. Ybarra continued with his endorsement for Senator Obama.
