obama wins nobel peace prize for wanting world peace

100909_onobel3_20091009_075950The Nobel Committee awarded Obama the Nobel Peace Prize to encourage his initiatives in calling for world peace and cooperation.

Rather than recognizing concrete achievement, the 2009 prize appeared intended to support initiatives that have yet to bear fruit: reducing the world stock of nuclear arms, easing American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthening the U.S. role in combating climate change.

Other candidates for consideration include:

Miss Teen South Carolina – For her desire to provide the US Americans, South Africans and The Iraq with maps.

Coca Cola – For their desire to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony. And to buy the world a Coke.

Rodney King – For his plea that we all just get along.

pic022

The New Jersey Obama Kids – Because they are just mmm mmm mmmmmm good.

Miss World 2008 Russia – Because she wants to help people.

ABBA – Because they had a dream.

Indonesian Baby – Because he weighed 19.2 pounds when he was born. Dang!

Congratulations, Obama. What an accomplishment…I guess.
And better luck next time to the other candidates.

**MSNBC did a little clean up on aisle one:

Original paragraph on msnbc:

Rather than recognizing concrete achievement, the 2009 prize appeared intended to support initiatives that have yet to bear fruit: reducing the world stock of nuclear arms, easing American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthening the U.S. role in combating climate change.

Revised:

The Nobel Committee lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama’s calls for peace and cooperation but recognized initiatives that have yet to bear fruit: reducing the world stock of nuclear arms, easing American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthening the U.S. role in combating climate change.

  • Diana L. C.

Yep, we are all participating in theater of the absurd.

  • Prime Obot

As one of this site’s few resident Obama fans, let me enjoy a rare moment of agreeing with all my dear friends here. ;)

Awarding Obama the Peace Prize at this dawning stage of his presidency is utterly ridiculous; we can only say “Oh, those wacky Europeans” and hope that Obama’s achievements during his time in office eventually live up to this award.

Very funny diary, too. Aspirational choices, all.

  • Peggy Sue

That’s a stunning and very telling revision from the folks at MSNBC. Is that for real? Because if real it’s a prime example at how the press is no more than a propaganda machine.

Loved your examples, AGI. Made me laugh although this “award” is a sad, sorry chapter in confusing the meaning of things. In this case, “accomplishment” with empty promises, eloquent words to actual deeds, true from false.

  • Mandelay

Brilliant posting, AGI. Brilliant comment, Diana L.C.

  • Obamastolemycounty

The Miss America contestant connection occurred to me and I commented on the previous thread! LOL!

It’s so stupidly sad and funny and insane all at the same friggin’ time, I don’t really know what to do other than joke. Otherwise I’ll cray and never be able to stop!

  • lightacandle

“reducing the world stock of nuclear arms” ???

Yeah, Obama will reduce OUR “stock of nuclear arms” but call me when he gets the world’s bad characters to reduce their “stock of nuclear arms.”

  • Katmoon

I can appreciate the humor and irony AGI, completely.
I think the staff at Websters better start now on the new definition of “role model”.

  • Prime Obot

    Astonishing. Those wacky Europeans!

For the record, and speaking as one of this site’s rare Obama supporters, I think this award is ridiculous. One of the people on my political thread at work points out that nominations for the award were due right around the time that Obama was elected. This award is an embarrassment, not for Obama or Democrats or progressives, but for the Nobel committee. I can only hope that our president lives up to the award’s ideals by the time his term of office is over.

  • Judy

    Infanticide = Nobel Peace Prize

    WTF

  • Dbb

Busy bee Sara has been all day working on this post, you can just tell. Sort of like Lord Windershmere and Boomer gripping the farting post and grimacing to vent forth their point winning freeps and flutters. It’s tough being a PUMA.

  • Freedom Fighter

Haha! I predicted Obama was going to win the Nobel Prize last year, but you guys pooh pooh’d the thought. I have to admit, I thought he was going to win the Nobel Prize in Literature for his two much lauded literary works.

I am glad in the sense that this is the only way that the young generation of today will be able to reason to themselves and others those things that attempt against their freedom and their liberty. It is news like this one that ultimately affect the dialogue and conversation of most if not all students in our country and throughout the world. Actions such as the intervention in history that the Nobel Prize committee is perpetrating is what will change the minds and enlighten the young generation to vigilance and protection of their individual rights as persons and against people trying to take them away from them. This is a great day of exposure of the Obama travesty and the travesty the Left is perpetrating on everyone.

Bill Ayers has admitted to writing “Dreams of My Father”.

Bummer, I really thought Coca-Cola had it in the bag.

I would have voted for the Baby because it offered us the best example of dogged determination and concrete accomplishment.

This circumstance reminds me of the TLC show

  • Katmoon

I read the original article on this and there was a line where Ayers said if it could be proven he would split the royalties. The Library of Congress shows Obama as the author; so it would be difficult to prove unless someone has the contract regarding how the authorship played out, per royalties/publication rights.

  • Peggy Sue

FF, we’re all so glad you think the Nobel Peace prize being awarded to non-accomplishment is such a victory.

Pretty much proves how empty you Obamatrons are. But please keep the spin up and you might be able to convince yourself that the overlooked nominees were of lesser value to the Obamathon. Here’s two for you think ponder:

“Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence.”

    and,

Sima Samar, women’s rights activist in Afghanistan: “With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women’s Affairs.”

That should make you feel shame, not joy.

  • AMERICAN SAWBUCK

I assume he has already been named Time Magazine’s ……….
MAN OF THE YEAR…so I guess I can just shoot myself now and not miss anything!

In the picture of Thee One on top of the page: to whom is he waving up in the sky? His Father Whom Art in Heaven? Now we know the Prince of Peace has finally arrived; it’s about time!

But I have to say, Miss World Russia 2008 must have been a close contender; I love the way she slinks across the stage like Jessica Rabbit–and I’ll even forgive all that eye makeup; I’m just so grateful she wants to help people.

And Abba! What wonderful schlock! In short–this is an absolutely hilarious gallery of pop silliness, American Girl. Thanks!

  • AMERICAN SAWBUCK

    He won’t…

  • Elizabeth

I’d bet even Obama didn’t want this right now. It emboldens his critics for sure, but certainly raises the bar for what he must work to achieve as well.

  • rosa

amazing, just amazing, but then a lot of things have become very suspicious in the way they are playing out.
In a way it kind of goes along with the thought police if you think it, you must be guilty or in the case of Obama his empty words are proof enough!

I guess I am becoming a real conspiracy thinking person, maybe this is to undermine anything that may be done in Afgansitan because we know how some people’s decisions are swaying in the wind of the person who whispers in his ear last.

  • Katmoon

Somehow rosa, that doesn’t sound so conspiracy-like anymore.

  • wbboei

Is it too much to hope that this last piece of hyperbole will be the tipping point, and that people of sound and disposing mind will confront the reality that this whole thing is smoke and mirrors, and as Gertrude Stein famously said about Oakland, when it comes to Mr. Obama there is no there there? If not, then this country is headed for disaster. This is the real world, the world of cause and effect, the world of consequences. Hot air and gut wind will not do it.

  • Natasha

I hear the Vatican has already started the Beautification process.

  • N. Lee

I’m beginning to think anyone with power is dishonest. Who knows the real reason Mr. O won the prize. I’m losing any faith I had left in this world. My eyes are moving to the heavens 100% at this point. Anything down here seems to be one big illusion.

  • Natasha

I also heard he has been declared the winner of Dancing with the Stars and he will be the next American Idol.

  • Judy L. NC

It’s clear to me that the Nobel committee wanted to prove they’re not racists. There is simply no other explanation.

  • oowawa

Is it too much to hope that this last piece of hyperbole will be the tipping point?

Yes. It is too much to hope. Now that we see that major awards honoring accomplishment no longer require any actual accomplishments, we can look forward to the day when Thee One presents himself with the ultimate award: The Congressional Medal of Honor.

How solemn and dignified he will look as he somberly presents himself with the medal. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.

  • Johnny at Work

The Nobel Committee has been a joke ever since they gave Yasser Arafat a Peace Prize.

But in Obama’s case the committee meant to give Obama the Nobel Appeaser Prize.

  • DAB

Huffington Post has a “Does he deserve it” poll if you want to venture there. Considering that they are so pro-Obama, it’s not a runaway.

Also, MSNBC’s Morning Joe gang were not particularly thrilled with the Obama Win:

“The upside is the Nobel Prize committee that has had suspect selections in the past has just befuddled a lot of people across the world,” said host Joe Scarborough.

“I predict right now that he will find a way to basically turn it down,” Time’s Mark Halperin added . “I think he is going to say, I share this with the world or whatever. I don’t think he’ll embrace this. Because there is no upside.”

“The damage is done,” Brzezinski responded.

  • Katmoon

As a matter of fact, I am thinking he may have already been nominated for an Oscar, in the “Best Actor” category for playing the role of a president

OOps never mind-Totus should get the award.

    RULE SIX
SPECIAL RULES FOR THE ACTING AWARDS

A performance by an actor or actress in any role shall be eligible for nomination either for the leading

  • trixta

Actually, I think the powers that be gave him this award to counter the slap down he received from the International Olympic Committee. There is no other explanation. Are they punking us?

For some time now, the apparent ideals of the Nobel committee have clearly been anything that diminishes the standing of the U.S.A., if not it’s outright destruction. In that regard, Obama may very well live up to the “award’s ideals” by the time he is tossed out of office.

Prime Obot — I am impressed that you would come here and acknowledge the sheer absurdity of this Nobel choice. Did you see this? The good old DNC, honestly THEY are an embarrasment http://hotair.com/headlines/?p=55317

    Politico
DNC: GOP is siding with terrorists in criticizing Obama’s Nobel
“The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists – the Taliban and Hamas this morning – in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize,” DNC communications director Brad Woodhouse told POLITICO. “Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize – an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride – unless of course you are the Republican Party.
“The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It’s no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore – it’s an embarrassing label to claim,” Woodhouse said.

  • wbboei

Do you think this was an attempt by the bleeding hearts to stretch the prize criteria from actual accomplishments to mere words in order to offset the international embarrassment he suffered at the hands of another committee namely the International Olympics Committee. I think that is more probable than not. The problem is they have rendered the award superfluous and raised the bar on what he is now expected to achieve. This is a crowd of thorns.

“What do you get for the man who has everything? A Nobel Peace Prize! Our Supreme Leader Barack Obama shockingly won the 2009 award for peace, having been nominated for the prize no more than 11 days after his inauguration. What else will Obama win in the coming months? The World Series? A Grammy? The Heisman Trophy? The next round of Survivor? Tune in today for a full analysis of the stunning decision.”

  • Lark

I am not mad because the President was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize but because he does not have the character within him to reject it and “put our country first.” What the Nobel committee has done is to meddle into our country’s affairs and try to influence the way we conduct foreign policy. They have violated all ethical standards for their charter. They need to apologize to the U.S. for interfering with our way of life.

  • Docelder

Interesting idea… that the committee by giving the award for future work wants to influence policy. Another idea is that this administration is actually a party to this. I am not sure which, but from what Obama has said it could be either.

But, he said, “I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations to confront the challenges of the 21st century.”

I am not sure which to me is worse… that Obama is on on this, or that he is not and is plastic enough to fall for it. Either way, doesn’t it work out the same for us?

  • Lark

That can be done next year. For now they are happy they can invade our policy development by trying to influence the way a standing president makes decisions. Bad form. Not only they need to be censured by Congress but by anyone with any sense of dignity for the office he represents.

I am certainly glad that all this socialist crap keeps getting exposed for what it is: a diminishing of personal freedom and the abrogation of responsibility. It is the crap that people and specially educators want to instill in the children and to build the world upon. And it seems they are succeeding. But crap like this allows children and parents to interact and allows children to discuss the merit of religion: fairness. I am so glad the Nobel Peace Prize went to Obama in that it exposes to the light of day what is unfair about the “New World Order.” People will have to decide if they will like to adapt and live in a world of ‘deception’ 100 percent of the time.

Here is a letter I have drafted to the Nobel Prize Committee. I would appreciate your comments. Peggy Sue, I used some of your wording about the other candidates. Who should I give credit to?

I write to you as one of the many Americans who are shocked that our president, Barack Obama, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. While he has made many speeches on the subject of peace, he has yet to accomplish anything in that area. In fact, he had been in office only 12 days before the deadline for the prize applications. This leads us to believe you have awarded a prize based on campaign speeches. Obama may deserve the award in the future, but he certainly does not now.

Further disturbing are the reports of nominees who did not win: Dr. Denis Mukwege, doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence; Sima Samar, women’s rights activist in Afghanistan who with dogged persistence and at great personal risk, kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight; and Greg Mortensen who risked his life to build schools in Pakistan and Afganistan, coming up against drug kings and Tribal War Lords who did not want the schools built. All of these people have dedicated (and risked) their lives to helping women and chidren. Why weren’t any of these people chosen?

American polls right now show that 70% of Americans do not believe Obama has done enough to earn this honor. In fact, we believe the Nobel Peace Prize has been tarnished with this selection.

  • Lark

I think the Chinese are laughing their heads off. But not without concern for the Muslims will take advantage of such an absurdity and make their case that the West is without redemption void of all godly traits. We in this country and in the West have simply given up on values and adopted corruption as our standard banner. Can our children build a future from travesties of such magnitude? We’ll see. I hope they take this simple to understand deception as an opportunity to demand change and seek the freedom that a clear conscience brings about.

A cheater…..it would have been must better for the puppet if he would have said, thanks….”But judge me on my merits, allow me the opportunity to prove you right?…….. This will backfire on Berry Soetoro. This is soooooooooo funny, the reality, it is soooooooo very sad!

And I really love the way he got this for talking about world peace, while Hillary is actually working for it. Perhaps this will help her decide to run for Gov. of NY. It is the ultimate in having someone else take credit for your work, so maybe she’ll decide to slip away & leave the “genius” to it. What kind of world is this getting to be? And I wonder how much this cost G.S.

Everyone who has ever been desperate and hungry for attention, admiration, fame and acclaim ultimately has to admit that none of it made them happy because…

the emptiness inside can never be satisfied by the outer world. And that’s what sets off the craving to begin with…inner emptiness, puffed up ego rather than sense of self, pride and boasting rather than quiet accomplishment.

Newsflash: Jakarta, Indonesia; Humongous baby doubles his weight in two days. Scientists speculate that if the baby’s weight continues at this exponential rate, he will have by necessity devoured the entire planet in less than a year. The only good news is that President Obama and the U.S. Congress will have been devoured with it.

Little is known about the gravitational effects that a kicking, screaming, planet sized baby will have upon the solar system, but Stephen Hawking warns that if the the immensely corpulent child, in a fit of indigestion, were to burp up Michelle O., her dark, almost anti-matter like personality, could extinguish the Sun, plunging this small corner of the Galaxy into eternal darkness.

Pollsters have determined that a majority of Earthlings consider the loss of the Obamas, and Congress, to be an even trade for the destruction of planet Earth.

totally real. I copy/pasted the paragraph in email to the NQ writers when I first read the article because I was shocked they allowed that slam. After I decided to do this funny (i hope) post, I went back to get the link to credit the source and it was changed!

I copy pasted the quote back in google, and USATOday had the story as is still. Just msnbc changed it…

The thing that kills me is he was nominated not even TWO WEEKS after taking office… Surely you we call all agree that at two weeks in all he had done was win the election. Apparently whoever nominated him felt that was Nobel worthy.

  • http://sarainitalyblog.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

I agree… it doesn’t look well on him, in my opinion. Especially following SNL last Saturday. haha

But seriously, half the country doesn’t think he deserved the nomination and Presidency – wasn’t experienced enough, and hadn’t accomplished anything to justify the position.

Now he gets the Nobel prize and he hasn’t done anything to justify winning it.

It’s like…what? Is he just handed everything?

  • http://sarainitalyblog.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

I agree Prime Bot – this is the second post we have seen almost eye to eye…. there may be help for you yet. hehe ;O)

    I just read this:

The spectacle of Mr Obama mounting the podium in Oslo to accept a prize that once went to Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi and Mother Theresa would be all the more absurd if it follows a White House decision to send up to 40,000 more US troops to Afghanistan.
    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article6867711.ece

Someone commented above about how this was a manipulation in USA politics and depending on Obama’s decision to send the requested additional troops to Afghanistan, they may be right…

“Go over there and vote”, is that what the ACORN said as it sent “Nobel Peace Committee members” on a field trip to Norway??

  • trixta

Yes, at first I thought the same too, AGI, but the guy does laugh again upon hearing Obama’s name uttered by the announcer of the award. It may be a response to the gasps from the audience, but it could also be a response to the absurdity of it all. I wish someone would interview him to explain his curious reaction and to explain who he is, in any case.

  • trixta

Absolutely! This award was foisted upon us to prop up BO yet again in the face of an humiliating defeat by the IOC. To whit, all this is very reminiscent of the primaries when BO would trot out an endorsement whenever things weren’t going his way. It would certainly change the narrative — except this time it may very well backfire since thus far at least 70% of the public is not buying the rational for the award.

  • http://www.vacationrentalsad.com/ Lisa

I think the Nobel Prize is an honor for the President, he was very gracious about accepting it.

  • TeakWoodKite

HA American Girl in Italia. Can’t imagine how this playing in your nrek of the woods.

I live in Baltimore where 92% of people voted for Obama. Even here, in academic, pro-Obama circles, this award was a total shock and the people were initially disappointed with Oslo’s decision. “Obama did not deserve it”. Well, it took a Nobel to open their eyes. For several hours.

  • ACPD

I have to agree with all Americans who realize that the credibility of the Nobel Prize has just been completely undermined. Even in the very heavily pro-Obama city in which I live, the local surveys indicate that people don’t think BO deserved this award. It is embarrassing and demonstrates the power of “packing,” even outside this country….I’m very sad for the actual cause of peace and the many hard-working people and just causes that have been over been overlooked for this TV moment….

  • Ferd Berfle

This question is directed towards our resident squatter obamabots: When will your pretend President EVER live up to his hype? Give me specifics about what he has actually done during any point in his miserable existence for which he deserves all the unthinking adoration that you give him. Don’t give me links to speeches or to websites of his adoring slack-jawed mouth-breathers, either. You bots need to actually answer this question in your own tortured English using your own fractured logic. You can’t and won’t, though, because even as addled as your are and even though you bought it all hook, line, and sinker, you really know deep, deep down that you were had and you’re just too embarrassed to admit it.

I say he’s all stilted, gobbledegook talk and no action at all. He is inert in every sense of the word.

  • Lyn

I guess that even HuffPo is a bit squeamish about bestowing all that glory on someone who has yet to prove himself, so they have to justify it in some way. Since I didn’t vote for BO, I probably can’t claim my share of the $1.4M booty.

Also, wondering how the Dalai Lama (a previous DESERVING laureate) feels about being recently snubbed by the new man on the block.

  • Scranton4Hillary

Remember Jiminy Cricket in Pinnochio singing–
When you wish upon a star? Well, I guess that star is none other than Emperor Ego O-bla-bla. It’s one thing for the Nobel Prize committee to grant the award to MaoBama–it’s quite another for the Big 0 to accept it. He must realize he hasn’t done ANYTHING to merit this honor. There is no end to his arrogance.
But after witnessing this, I now have hope that one of my first grade students can win the award. They all want people to stop fighting and be nice to each other too. If wishes were horses then beggars would ride. Just another chapter in the Obama Fairytale presidency. Nothing is real—Strawberry Fields forever.
