Obama’s High-Water Mark

Last week marked the 145th anniversary of Pickett’s Charge during the battle at Gettysburg, a watershed moment in the Civil War. It also may be remembered in the future as the week the Barack Obama campaign launched its version of Pickett’s Charge. Like General Pickett, he failed to take the center and ruined his Army in the process. For those of you not familiar with the major engagement of the civil war:

Pickett’s Charge was an infantry assault ordered by Confederate General Robert E. Lee against Maj. Gen. George G. Meade’s Union positions on Cemetery Ridge on July 3, 1863. . . . Its futility was predicted by the charge’s commander, Lt. Gen. James Longstreet, and it was arguably an avoidable mistake from which the Southern war effort never fully recovered psychologically. The farthest point reached by the attack has been nicknamed the high-water mark of the Confederacy.

Barack’s flip-floppery of the past two weeks–FISA, Partial Birth Abortion, NAFTA, Expanded support for Faith Based initiatives, and Iraq–might not generate much heat for a run-of-the-mill politician who was just doing business as usual. But Barack convinced many in America that he was different. The hagiography that substituted for normal reporting during the last year on Barack simply confirms his status as a mythological religious icon. While Barack is not the first politico to make a mad dash for the center, he is the first to do it so far in advance of a political convention that will be decided by unelected super delegates.

Barack up to now has enjoyed the luxury of being portrayed as a NEW KIND OF POLITICIAN.
He was not like those old guys and gals. He is shiny new and sparkling clean. He means what he says and says what he means. Believe in HIM and there is hope for a new tomorrow.

Well, that was the bullshit line he sold many progressives and Democratic party stalwarts. But in a series of moves that resembled a helicopter rotor spinning before lift off, Barack became just one more old-style, political panderer.

When you preach against whoremongers and adulterers then you better be sure you are not caught in bed with Hollywood Madam, Heidi Fleiss. And you damn sure better not do it during the dog days of July and August when reporters, who are bored and worrying about upcoming (or recently concluded) vacations, are looking for easy stories. (Remember that reporters, by and large, are lazy bastards and reflect a herd mentality that makes lemmings envious.) Well, Barack has given them a Christmas in July holiday–albeit an unsavory, steaming pile of hypocrisy that will keep the media picking thru it for the next month.

Of course this would not be newsworthy if Barack was just some cynical, crusty pol. But when you are the incarnation of a new age Messiah–a chocolate skinned Jesus preaching hope and change–you cannot pretend to walk on water. You better stay on top and not get wet. Because once you jump into the cess pool of politics as usual then you get that stink all over you. This is the week Barack got the stink.

I was going to start linking up all of the articles touching on this transformation, but realized it would more than fill a page. (Here are a couple of representative samples, Obama’s Chicago Boys and The Honeymoon is Over. Obama, for whatever reason, decided to try to take the center. But like General Pickett’s futile, bloody charge 145 years ago, Obama’s effort came up short and he did enormous harm to his army of starry-eyed disciples. Whether of not this will set in motion the forces that re-energizes the candidacy of Hillary remains to be seen, but this much is sure–this is the week Barack became just one more political hack from Chicago.

It is one thing to think you have found the golden calf. But it is a damn rough awakening when you find green tarnish covering your gold. You then realize it ain’t gold, just cheap brass. This is the week Barack lost his shine. So much for the Golden child.

  • Babe

He always looked like a political hack to me. I have good intuition. I never trusted him. Wake up fools!

    • JAY in Los Angeles

      Here as well, Babe.

I knew from the first time I heard him speak that he was a sham.

      • missE

Obama’s own close friends Rev. Wright and Rashid Khalidi told everyone Obama was just a politician.

      • BernieO

Too bad influential pundits like Bob Herbert are only now catching on. Read his column in today’s NYTimess. Also read the usually terrible Richared Cohen’s column in todays WPost. He actually criticizes Saint Reagan’s legacy. Watch for him to be burned at the stake. His analysis of our magical thinking is a MUST READ!!

What is it with Americans that we only learn after things get really bad?

      Where is the tape?

But, by May and early June of this year, Johnson had become much more hated on the left than he ever was on the right. He was instrumental in spreading the rumor that Republican operatives possessed a tape of Barack Obama’s wife Michelle railing against “whitey.” The affair has turned some of Johnson’s old friends and allies into raging, red-eyed enemies. “Smears of this type are unforgivable,” wrote blogger Booman, who said that his friendship with Johnson had ended over the matter. “You’re a sad and pathetic piece of shit,” wrote Brad Reed of Sadly, No! Daily Kos, the left-wing blogopolis where Johnson’s diaries once drew upward of 400 comments, became a carnival of Johnson-bashing. “You,” wrote Kos regular Bob Johnson (no relation), “and the denizens of your cesspool of hate have promoted and stoked every fringe-lunatic, right-wing smear of Obama.”

      • Zimeeisme

I thought that the comments area is supposed to be where one comments on the article.

This person obviously has a problem. Seems personal to me.

Just like the people here are saying…many of Obama’s supporters ARE thugs. Mummy is living proof.

Who the hell admits to liking a badly drawn European cartoon?

        • Mary

MummySmurf represents the type of Obama supporter who doesn’t actually READ the articles because they can’t UNDERSTAND the concepts in those articles.

Multi-syllabic words and compound sentences confuse them, so they just cut and paste something somebody ELSE has written.

They are exactly the type of voter Obama easily bamboozles.

      • http://liberalrapture.com scott in jupiter

Go to Walmart or your favorite big box hardware store and go to the paint isle and pick up a roll of high tack duct tape and tape your mouth shut so your friends and family don’t have to listen to your BS anymore. Then put some tape across the keys of your keyboard so we don’t have to read your BS either.

        • Dawnelle

          ((chuckle))

        • mummy smurf

Why Walmart? Because Hillary worked there to destroy the rights of Americans working for them?

          • StrawberrybitesBarky

You do know about Michelle’s ties as well…right?

          • tampagurl

I like Wally world, I get some good bargains there.

          • Ai1een

            Mummy –
From the article, “Obama’s Chicago Boys”,
“Demonstrating that this is no mere spring fling, he has appointed 37-year-old Jason Furman to head his economic policy team. Furman is one of Wal-Mart’s most prominent defenders, anointing the company a “progressive success story.” On the campaign trail, Obama blasted Clinton for sitting on the Wal-Mart board and pledged, “I won’t shop there.”

As everyone is saying – Obama = SCAM ARTIST.

          • NoBamaNoWay

when hi9llary worked for walmart it was an all-american made products company, or something like that. it was a lot different than it is now.

          • C.S.

I think you’ve confused Michelle Obama with Hillary Clinton. Senator Clinton never worked for the WalMart you know; she was on the board of Sam Walton’s WalMart.

Michelle Obama is the one who sets on the board of a close affiliate of the new WalMart company created from the old WalMart company purchased from Sam Walton’s heirs.

Sam Walton stated that the First Lady of Arkansas had made him aware of his discriminatory practice against women and that he promised her to change that and he did. I’m not aware of Mrs. Obama chiding the new WalMart for any of the discriminatory business practices that have landed it in court lately.

          Whitey Tape!

          • Lou

            LOL Hope

          • hank48188

Obama is going down WITHOUT the “Whitey” tape. just look at the tracking polls, 82% of the country thinks we on on the wrong track, Obama should have a 25% lead at this point but he doesn’t. People already see Obama to be a fraud, just wait till the ads come out about Obama connections to the WEATHERMEN TERRORIST, his PLO friends and his two preachers. The Republicans always run against the CHARACTER of the DEM, they will have a cakewalk this year if Obama is the pick. Maybe the DEMS will wake up and get rid of that cancer before it takes then all down.

      • Percy11

Awww…. mummy, an Obama supporter becoming fearful of what Obama really is. Is the convention over? is Obama the nominee? No…the convention is in August and Obama is merely the “presumptive” nominee for some. The “tape” was stated to arrive AFTER the convention IF Obama becomes the nominee.

Obama is doing enough to smear himself. It is all hard to keep up with and to bear for people like you.

      • btintaos

Poor, poor Obamabots. Their zealous cries of “hope” and “change” and their zombie-like chanting of “yes, we can” have been exchanged for the only retort at their disposal after the daily erosion of their messiah’s facade; “where’s the tape…where’s the tape…where’s the tape.”

        • Lou

          LOL

        • C.S.

But they’re constantly asking the wrong people for the tape. All they had to do was go to “the source”. Very ironic that Obama zealots ask about it every day but never have the courage to go searching for it on their own; I think they are afraid of what they might find if they peeked behind that Wizard-of-Oz curtain Obama is hiding behind.

      • HRocks

mummy smurf – you’ll have to be patient, the tape will come out in due time. I’ve seen you on this web site alot and I know you want to be a PUMA. It’s easy, walk into the light and your brain will return to normal. You will be able to think for yourself again. It’s difficult but you can do it.

        • wodiej

          LOL

      • Lou

        worried about the tape huh?

      • Grail Guardian

I don’t understand your question, mummy smurf. Barack’s Fight the Smears website says about the tape:

        Truth:

No such tape exists. Michelle Obama has not spoken from the pulpit at Trinity and has not used that word.

The tape that Rush and others are spreading rumors about doesn’t exist.

Why would you spread such vicious rumors? Should we report you to Fight the Smears?

    • Lucinda

The first one of his speeches that I heard (the infamous “bamboozle” speech in S.C.), he turned me off right then and there. To me, he sounded (spoke) like one of those T.V. preachers who fleeces old people out of their money by promising to heal their arthritis. Then, when Rev. Wright came on the scene, we found out where Obama had learned his speech-making skills. We don’t need this con man in the White House.

      • hank48188

Obama didn’t have the support of 90% of the blacks at that time, many blacks were saying he wasn’t “Black enough”. Obama had just lost in N.H. so he decided to play the race card to pump up his black vote in S.C. by using the favorite words of Louis Farrakhan and Malcolm X, BAMBOOZELED, HOODWINKED and OKIE-DOKE. He used them often to black crowds in S.C and again in Mississippi, he was telling them he knew about Malcolm and Farrakhan, he was “Black enough”, worked very well for him, then they complained about Hillary having the nerve to say LBJ passed Civil Rights, what a joke.

    • Patti

Betcha a dollar he is already in negotiations…no need for preconditions.

      http://theobamafile.com/ObamaIslam.htm

What was the meaning of the Bogus Presidential Seal, oh that’s right, it was just for one day — with US Governors…. yeah, okay, right…sure thing…

Acceptance speech in a stadium without even being nominated… still a little short on pledged delegates…oh, that’s right uncommitted super delegates endorsed him when the polls were still open and — oh yeah, Tim Russert said so. So there!

      Meglomaniac on the Rise?

      • Elizabeth Reilly

Obama holding his ‘acceptance’ speech in a huge stadium venue has a familiar ring to it…it puts me in mind of the film footage of the Hitler rallies, all staged, with triumphal trumpets blaring, drums rolling, etc. Scary stuff. I am not saying that Obama is Hitleresque, but the kind of megalomania I see in him and his people is very much of the same stuff.
Obama will further the downfall of this country if he succeeds to the Presidency.

        • Nicole

Yes, it does echo Triumph of the Will.
But who is his Leni Riefenstahl?

I think we will see some defectors very soon now that we have laid down the welcome mat for them. PUMAs please go easy on those sticking a few toes in the No Quarter waters.

        • Dawnelle

Ok so maybe it’s time for HILLARY to mention something about all of this?

She should NOT be agreeing to occupy stage craft with his minions.

She’s smarter than MOST Of us so I’m thinking she’s doing something under the radar already

(fingers crossed) while there is STILL TIME to remedy the dEmocratic Situation (we’ll call it) pffffffft!

Let’s rethink and reNAME our candidate (the one with true popular vote)

NOW before we spend all that money in Denver on props for the empty suit!

He can’t afford to pay enough people to fill that stadium! Their aren’t that many Obots in all of Colorado!

          • Lou

and now the minions have to pay 5 bucks to get into the convention football field. Obama must be broke. His cash cow got cut off and Hillary’s money raising machine has second thoughts.

      • DaveB

I always thought Victor Davis Hanson, whom SuzyQ favorably cited the other day, was the King of stupid military metaphors for polemical purposes but you give him a good run here, Larry. It must be snug and cozy back on the conservative Republican reservation from which you strayed to support Joe and Valerie (Where has Joe been by the way, he hasn’t posted for two months, maybe he doesn’t want McBush to win).,

    • mummy smurf

Pity for you lot that Obama is, as he said during the Primaries going after the religious that McWar has now lost.

      • Zimeeisme

Obama can go after them all he wants…the results will be the same as when he goes to campaign at Nascar events.

He is just wasting time and money, just like his buddy Dean. Geez…I could not believe how much money is being wasted on plush offices, convention parties and everything else that will be happening between now and November. This goes for both parties.

        Where are the fiscal conservatives??

        • Pink Panthers

Conservative Catholics and Evangelicals will not forget that Obama voted against requiring medical care for aborted fetuses who survived.

          • StrawberrybitesBarky

Um. The garlic nosed comment from Wright was more than enough to piss me off, but he just keeps piling it higher and deeper.

            • http://OTliesvideo Lyn

I can’t figure out why Obama wants anyone to think about his church. BUt I can’t figure out why he does most of the things he did, like record the audio of his book a couple years ago, knowing he would be running for POTUS and his words would sound worse coming from him, than seeing them written.

              • Nicole

I don’t believe Obama thought he’d be running for President when that book was written…Senator, maybe, but I doubt his ambitious fervour was reaching that high. (I do firmly believe that it was the Kennedys and Soros etc who annointed the Chicago State Senator, much to his surprise and delight…his ego and ambition didn’t take long, however, to catch up.)

          • Lou

He just let’s them be taken to the sink and hammered on the head until they die.
Or the closet until they suffocate.
He doesn’t want anyone punished with a baby now does he.

            • Patricia

Much like his own “greedy white” mother was?

Apparently his parents felt punished. They pushed him off to pursue their subversive politics in the 3rd world. All through the 60s and 70s…

              Where is Granny?
And why is he hiding her?

Anyone else would be travelling proudly with their Grandmother. He uses her when he needs her (proverbial bus) and when he needs to brag about her relatives. The people he truly distains.

A Granny alive with 2 great granddaughters that will presumably live in the White House? Can’t imagine why she is not bragging.

$26,000 a year to TUCC and the typical white one lives in the same apartment he was raised in?

When was the last time Mrs. Dunham laid eyes on our First Children to-be? Did she ever?

Would MO even let her step inside her Chicago home? Obamanoids, introduce us!! Please. So much for Unity.

        • stodghie

they’ve had to cut back on convention parties. the dnc rented very expensive office space and way more than needed. then some nitwit rented very expensive furniture all the while they still haven’t paid off the $11 million owed. sounds like the dnc and the obamadroids are fighting.

        • C.S.

If a political party wastes so much money celebrating themselves, and this includes Obama’s football stadium size celebration of himself, don’t expect fiscal responsibility from its members when they hit the Halls of Congress and move into Our White House.

If Obama is charging just to hear his “victory” speech just imagine what he will do with the key to the National Treasury.

      • tampagurl

Yeah like Obadboy could get the religious vote!
Wahahahahahah….Oh please stop my side is hurting Wahahahahahaha

I think ditching Bush’s freepers is the smartest thing John McCain could do. There are more moderates from the Dems than the Rapture Right. The Republican party could be more sanely rebuilt.

      • hank48188

That was the plan of the DNC, BRAZILE and DEAN thought Obama could get the votes of the Church folks, too bad they didn’t check Rev. Wright and Father Mike first. READ THIS, Written by DONNA BRAZILE “WHY AMERICANS HATE DEMOCRATS” How To Tap Into The Obama Factor, NOV. 5, 2004 http://www.slate.com/id/2109328

He’s BUYING them, Mummy, by declaring he supports Bush’s faith-based initiatives.

Most Americans are AGAINST those initiatives as Unconstitutional.

And most Americans CLEARLY understand that Rev. Wright and Father Pfleger will expect big $$$$ in return for their support.

“Going after the religious” by expanding faith-based initiatives will only get votes from people who want to be at the head of the line when the $$$$ get allocated.

        Not gonna help.

  • confused

I leaned Obama, but now I support Hillary Clinton.

    • d2d

BO never got to me. I didn’t see his famous convention speech but I heard a whole hell of a lot about it. And well, in some queer way, that hallaballoo served as my first red flag.

Of course, many other red flags were waved shortly thereafter, and I simply didn’t pay him any attention. Honestly, I could have cared less.

Hillary has always been my POTUS candidate. When I saw her speak in ’92 at a woman’s luncheon in Cincinnati I was immediately in awe. I knew she was the kind of female leader the country was yearning for. Watching her privately and gracefully deal with the republican smears, the impeachment hearings, the whitewater debacle, and so much more during the 90′s was tough, but then witnessing her lead as the good Senator from New York has simply been amazing. The way she embraced the people of her fair state and beyond following the 911 tragedy warmed me to her as a true leader even more.

But the thing that really did it for me, the thing that stands as the greatest testament to her is that beautiful daughter, Chelsea. The way she looks at her mother, admires her mother and encourages her mother is what does it for me.

So it’s always been an easy decision for me.

      Welcome

“The natural reminder here is O.J. [Simpson] — how does an African American candidate attack a white woman?”

          And Obama never denounced it.

          • Saul

Jesse Jackson once infamously referred to New York City as Hymie Town. A very dear friend of mine, African American, thinks Jessie Jackson is the absolutely worst thing to happen to blacks in America. BTW, Obama gets no love there either..

            • StrawberrybitesBarky

Ouch. Bad memories. I voted for Jackson then I heard that comment. Talk about buyer’s remorse. I swore after that I’d go over every future candidate with a microscope. Which is why I hate Barky.

            • jbjd

He was running for President at the time. He called Jews from NY “Hymies from Hymietown.” A pool reporter – a black man – reported the comments. You can imagine what happened to him.

Rather that, then vote for a liar who spoke about Selma as if he’s part of history. If BO has so much pride in Black America, why didn’t he know this date in history? They met in Selma and a year later, little barack jr. was born? He didn’t miss it by a year, he missed it by 4 years! I knew he was nothing but a down and dirty politician from day one. I read his books, reviewed his voting record (only took a second-quite thin as far as voting records go), and listened to his speeches. It all added up to one thing- an opportunistic politician.

    • C.S.

I knew it too. When you have a candidate without a “papertrail” in this day and age, you know he’s been newly minted and the more they try to hide the dirtier they are. Obama’s rapid rise made me think of Martin Luther King saying that all of us should be judged by the content of our character and not the color of our skin.

Dr. King’s standards of judgment should be applied to Mr. Obama and only the content of his character be considered and I doubt Dr. King would approve of him charging voters $5 a head to listen to his coronation speech; especially after all his hard work to make sure we didn’t have to purchase participation in our electoral process.

Here you go Larry more proof Obama’s house of cards is falling down:

Breaking news: Now, Jim Webb takes himself off Obama’s VP list

Jim Webb, the Virginia senator and former Republican who packs his own heat most places, has withdrawn himself from consideration as Barack Obama’s Democratic vice presidential running mate.

In a statement released moments ago, Webb said: “Last week I communicated to Senator Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and thVirginia Sen Jim Webb listens to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama at a June rally in Virginia. Webb takes himself out of VP consideration with Obama July 7, 2008is country.

“Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for Vice President.”

    • d2d

Sen. Webb is very much his own man and is building a solid record during his first term. Those of us who reside in the great Commonwealth of Virginia would lose a great deal if he were to leave the Senate so soon.

Kudos to Webb. Thanks for putting Virginia and her future first!

      • DeadEnder1

        Yeah.

We got much more than we voted for in 2006.

I have been very impressed by Webb.

Thankfully, he has experience enough to recognize a sinking landing craft when he sees it.

And I loved the Rat Boat comment, a little farther down thread.

      • Susan

Although I think Jim Webb is qualified to be VP (more qualified than Obama!), I thought it would be a mistake to put 2 first-termers on the same ticket. Plus, Jim Webb’s a Navy man – he knows a sinking ship when he sees one.

    • Dawnelle

      OHHHHHH PRAISE BE!!!

HE WAS STILL ON MY HEROES LIST!! (on myspace)

I had not seen him do much to promote BHO even after VA went for him. I’m sooooooo glad to read this! I pray it’s true. YESSSSSSSSS!

And he knows which way the wind blows!

          • beebop

And he has his own aspirations. Losing with Obama is not on his list of 100 things to do before I die ….

    • alee21

Unlike Obama, Webb actually wants to fulfill his job responsibilities as a United States Senator.
Also, Webb doesn’t want to attach himself to the sinking mother ship.

      • Dawnelle

        RAT BOAT!! LOL sinking!

    • Karma

      I found that interesting too.

The only people that really make sense for Obama is a military man for VP.

A business man doesn’t seem like they could pass the lobbyist/vetting test and is still high profile enough to actually add something to the ticket.

So, that leaves other politicians like Sen Sam Nunn. While he probably passes the ‘stagecraft’ of not outshining Obama with a physical presence. Does it add enough excitement? Or point out how badly Obama needs a resume to stand next to him?

      • Teakwood

I will have Nunn of Obama?

      • Hope Floats

Evil old Sam Nunn. Somebody will have to do it. It might as well be the new guy.

      • MaryPat

He’s almost the only option left. Rendell, Strickland, now Webb say “no thanks.” Sebelius, despite all the gushing, is a terrible choice. She doesn’t shore up his weaknesses at all–and any woman other than Hillary is a really bad idea. Not the way to “unite” the party, that’s for sure.

Biden says he would accept, but he has foot-in-mouth disease. And Nunn neutralizes the “old guy” ammo against McCain. If Barry is looking for a “wow” factor, Nunn doesn’t have it. Bor-ing. But I don’t see much “wow” in Richardson, either.

        • Hope Floats

Awwww, but Gordo hit the tanning bed and grew a beard. Latinos would vote for him.

    • HRocks

Is there anyone who wants to be in the sinking boat with Obama? Will Obama ever find/bribe/blackmail someone to be his vp?

Even Hillary said thanks, but no thanks during that ‘private meeting’ whe Barfy dropped everything and ran to ask her.

Any means to justify the end. That’s why so many of us are under the bus!!!!!

    • Lou

Strickland, whose Buckeye State will be crucial in determining the presidential winner Nov. 4, was equally unequivocal: “If drafted, I will not run; nominated, I will not accept; and if elected, I will not serve. So, I don’t know how more crystal clear I can be,” he said in early June.

  • d2d

Yep, the messiah had a putridly stinky week.

I raise my glass to him having even stinkier weeks ahead!

  • tampagurl

Larry, I don’t think his supporters care. I can tell by talking to them here. They think he is lying to us and not them so it’s OK if he lies just to get elected.

    • Pink Panthers

What does that tell you about the ethics and morals of his supporters? They are the mirror image of neo-cons.

    • MaryPat

Amazingly, a lot of the talking heads on TV are okay with the “move to the center” as well. Their argument is that he has to do it to get elected, and then he’ll be free to revert back to his “real” positions. Not that anyone has any idea what those real positions are now, or will be in the future.

So apparently it’s perfectly fine to lie to the voters–the ends justify the means. Meet the new politics. Same as the old politics.

      • NoBamaNoWay

correct; BushCo/Rove dirty tricks are perfectly acceptable, even commendable, when they are practiced by The Messiah. it’s scary what kind of tactics the Obamabots gleefully embrace.

      • Perry Logan

Politicians are just human — some learn how the system works and try make it work for good, mostly. Other politicians, like Obama, figure out how to make the system work for themselves.

BO lost me aobut March 07 when he endorsed Richar Daley II for mayor of Chicago. He is the most disengenous, lying politician I have seen in my 50 years on this earth.

Today I attended McCain’s town hall meeting in Denver. We were greeted warmly (with my 10you daughter wearing her Hillary t-shirt). Questions were not screened, and he did not stutter once in his speech or answering questions (from friend or foe). I am proud to support him against the empty suit, fork-tongued, phony BO.

I live in Denver!!! I didn’t know, DAMN! I would have gone, wearing my PUMA shirt. Where was it held at??

      • wcwf50

Hi Vinnie-I found out about it by accident, surfing the local papers on Sunday via the net. It wasn’t even on his campaign website. They held it at the performing arts center…in a ballroom in the venue across from the Buell Theater. My dd got quite an education..a few protesters, one dressed like a pea pod. I was interviewed by CNN Spain, and he filmed my my daughter’s Hillary t-shirt adorned with a McCain for President and Nobama pin. We saw bomb-sniffing dogs, the secret service, sat behind McCain’s podium (and Cindy McCain) facing the teleprompter. She went through her first security check.

CBS4Denver should have the entire thing up on video on their website (they had it last night). It’s broken up into 3 or 4 videos. I wish I would have had a PUMA shirt, but dd did say “PUMA” several times while we waited in line. It was standing room only so we were lucky we got there early.

    From Gallop:

“In 9 of the past 15 U.S. presidential elections, the candidate who was leading in Gallup polling roughly four months before the election ultimately won the popular vote for president. However, narrowing the set of races to the nine that were competitive, the early polling proved prescient in only three of those.”

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/108676/July-Leader-Lost-Last-Competitive-US-Elections.aspx

At this time of the year, Kerry and Dukakis had 6 and 7 point leads. Obama has a 4 point lead.

If Hillary was the nominee, I bet she would have a 10-15 point lead.

Obama is going to lose it.

    • http://www.despair.com/changewinds.html Smilin’ Jim

Today’s web site said 2% and that the month long average edge that Obama held is 3%.
      Considering Gallup’s +/-2% sampling accuracy, that’s a dead heat.

Now figure in the Bradley Effect.

Then figure the Wright commercials that will preview September 20. Toss in Johnson’s tape to boot.

You might as well include how drained Democrat donors are now as well.

Barry needs a BIG McCain stumble in October.

Its really beginning to feel like all of this can build enough momentum for a climactic dethroning of Obambi. We need progressives and any disaffected Obambi supporters on board with this. We’re going to need all the help possible to resist the race cards that’ll be coming back at us. Keep up the fight!!!!!!

This diary about Barakula was posted up at Orange Urinal.
I would LOVE for some of the gurus here to address it:

Here are just a few highlights from Barack Obama’s career as a US Senator: specific pieces of legislation, what they meant and how they were passed.

The Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act
Introduced by Sen. John McCain in May 2005, and cosponsored by Sen. Edward Kennedy. Barack Obama added three amendments to this bill.

While the bill was never voted on in the Senate, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Acts of 2006 and 2007, respectively, drew heavily upon the wording of this bill.

    The Lugar-Obama Cooperative Threat Reduction.
Introduced by Sen. Barack Obama, Sen. Dick Lugar and Sen. Tom Coburn.

First introduced in November 2005 and enacted in 2007, this bill expanded upon the successful Nunn-Lugar threat reduction, which helped secure weapons of mass destruction and related infrastructure in former Soviet Union states.

Lugar-Obama expanded this nonproliferation program to conventional weapons — including shoulder-fired rockets and land mines. When the bill received $48 million in funding, Obama said, “This funding will further strengthen our ability to detect and intercept illegal shipments of weapons and materials of mass destruction, enhancing efforts to prevent nuclear terrorism.”

Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006
This act of Congress, introduced by Senators Obama and Coburn, required the full disclosure of all entities or organizations receiving federal funds in FY2007.

Despite a “secret hold” on this bill by Senators Ted Stevens and Robert Byrd, the act passed into law and was signed by President Bush. The act had 43 cosponsors, including John McCain.

The act created this Web site, which provides citizens with valuable information about government-funded programs.

Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act

This law helped specify US policy toward the Congo, and states that the US should work with other donor nations to increase international contributions to the African nation.

The bill marked the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor. Following this legislation’s passage, Obama toured Africa, traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad. He spoke forcefully against ethnic rivalries and political corruption in Kenya.

Honest Leadership and Open Government Act
In the first month of the 110th Congress, Obama worked with Sen. Russ Feingold to pass this law, which amends and strengthens the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995.

Specificially, the changes made by Obama and Feingold requires public disclosure of lobbying activity and funding, places more restrictions on gifts for members of Congress and their staff, and provides for mandatory disclosure of earmarks in expenditure bills.

The House passed the bill, 411-8, on July 31. The Senate approved it, 83-14, on Aug. 2. At the time, Obama called it “the most sweeping ethics reform since Watergate.”

Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act

Following the Republican-sponsored voter intimidation tactics seen in mostly black counties in Maryland during the 2006 midterm elections, Obama worked with Sen. Chuck Schumer to introduce this bill.

The bill has been referred to the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary. Obama said of the bill, “This legislation would ensure that for the first time, these incidents are fully investigated and that those found guilty are punished.”

The Obama-McCain Climate Change Reduction Bill

The Obama-McCain bill, which is co-sponsored by Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., would cut emissions by two-thirds by 2050.

Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007

Introduced by Obama, this binding act would stop the planned troop increase of 21,500 in Iraq, and would also begin a phased redeployment of troops from Iraq with the goal of removing all combat forces by March 31, 2008.

Explaining the bill, Obama said it reflects his view that the problems in Iraq do not have a military solution. “Our troops have performed brilliantly in Iraq, but no amount of American soldiers can solve the political differences at the heart of somebody else’s civil war,” Obama said.

Amendments to the 2008 Defense Authorization Bill

Obama worked with Sen. Kit Bond to limit, through this bill, the Pentagon’s use of personality disorder discharges in the FY 2008 Defense Authorization bill.

This provision would add additional safeguards to discharge procedures and require a thorough review by the Government Accountability Office. This followed news reports that the Pentagon inappropriately used these procedures to discharge service members with service-connected psychological injuries.

“With thousands of American service members suffering day in and day out from the less visible wounds of war, reports that the Pentagon has improperly diagnosed and discharged service members with personality disorders are deeply disturbing,” said Senator Obama. “This provision will add additional safeguards to the Department of Defense’s use of this discharge and mandate a comprehensive review of these policies.”

The Comprehensive Nuclear Threat Reduction provision

Working with Sen. Hagel and Rep. Adam Schiff, Obama authored this provision, which would require the president to develop a comprehensive plan for ensuring that all nuclear weapons and weapons-usable material at vulnerable sites around the world are secure by 2012 from the threats that terrorists have shown they can pose.

A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.

“It is imperative that we build and sustain a truly global effort under an aggressive timeline to secure, consolidate, and reduce stockpiles of nuclear weapons and weapons-usable material to keep them out of the wrong hands. The comprehensive nuclear threat reduction plan required by this provision is an important step in that effort,” Obama said of the provision.

These are just a selection of the bills that Obama has introduced and co-sponsored. You owe it to yourself to be able to cite a few of these off the top of your heads so you can give people the gist of them when they challenge the Senator’s accomplishments.

At the end of the day, I will take Obama’s good judgment over McCain’s longevity in Washington any day of the week. It’s more important for a politician to learn from his or her mistakes than it is for them to present the same old failed ideas over and over and expecting a better result.

It’s true Obama is a relative newcomer on the politican scene, but he has already accomplished much in the areas of nuclear non-proliferation, government accountability, environmental responsibility and others.

So get out there and let some people know what our guy is capable of. Don’t be caught unaware when someone asks you for your candidate’s resume!

    This what I’m proud of:

That I’m not going to let the Democratic Party elite, Obama and his thugs tell me who I MUST vote for.

    This is not about Hillary!

This is about the coup that the Dem Party pulled off thinking that we loyalists would behave like sheeple and support their madness. This is about a man who is so short on experience, it’s got me thinking: Geez, maybe I should be running for President. I’ve certainly been more places in the world than Obama. He seems not to be able to recall the names of Heads of State, the captials of countries, the number of states in our Union, stuff that he should know in his sleep. If people just want a black person to be POTUS they can elect me. I know these things. I have an original Birth Certificate, both my parents are AA and I haven’t sat in a church for 20 years headed by a minister like Wright. There are no skeletons in my closet and I’m bilingual.

I’m just as qualified as he is except that I am not qualified to hold this office and neither is he.

You Obamanutjobs can carry on ad nauseum about Hilllary’s lack of credentials and I say this: how about Obama and Hilllary having an open debate on just the issues: the economy, foreign policy, the Iraq War, education, the environment and we’ll talk when it’s over.

Obama often doesn’t know where he is. The only thing he’s 100% certain of is that he wants to be POTUS.

Yeah, I’m voting for McCain. The only Republican that would make me vote for Obama if he was running would be George W. Bush.

I’ll tell you what I am not proud about. I am no longer proud to be a Democrat. After years of Party loyalty only to have them piss in my face and try to make me believe that it’s rain.

    Well, I ain’t stupid!

And I’m not staying home either!

Unlike the Democratic leadership Obamatons, I believe in a Document called the US Constitution. My faith in that document will get me through the next 4 years.

A President is NOT A KING!

But I at least want someone who this isn’t their first day at the rodeo.

I don’t know Barack Obama, where he came from and the little I do know I don’t like.

He’s not a Savior or a Messiah. Nor is he the fresh faced kid the Dems are trying to sell us. He’s a very studied politician who has mastered the art of dirty tricks to get elected. He has virtually NO RECORD. and what little he does have is an embarrassment.

I’m not even going to go into his shady alliances.

Of all the black politicians available, the Democratic Party had to throw in their lot with this biracial fraud.

I’m so insulted I can barely speak.

The whole thing has me breaking out in hives. I just want Barack Obama to go away. And if McCain is the only one who can make that happen, so be it.

It’s not my fault that these are the only choices. I voted for Hillary.

    • HRocks

IMO the DNC judgement was that Obama was so new, he didn’t have any trash. The DNC didn’t check him out and they believed what he told them. Now they are stuck, their egos won’t allow them to switch to the candidate that will win for the Democrats. It’s called biting your nose to spite your face. So sad.

    • mahaska

Boy, did they screw up. He’s all trash.

After much introspection I’ve realized my opposition to Obama is racist. I’m against the color of his resume: Green. I’m against the color of his ideas: Marxist Pink. I’m against the color of his political assocates like Rezko: Prison Orange.
After 30 years of pulling the lever for Democrats, this time I’m going for McCain.
No, I don’t agree with him on all the issues. But Obama simply does not meet the basic requirements for the job. Student Body President. Sure. POTUS? No way. If it’s McCain vs Obama, we have only one person qualified to lead the strongest nation on earth. The thought of an Obama presidency has caused many a sleepless night in recent weeks. If somehow, it were Hillary vs McCain, I’ll go to sleep early on election night knowing that the country will be in good hands, no matter who wins.

    • nickoury

I take it you meant “High School” Student Body President.

      • jwrjr

    • s. hall

sleepless call your State Democratic Party and tell them you will vote a Straight Republican ticket unless they open up this Convention and put Hills name in nomination. I had no idea until they called me today just how nervous they are about down ticket Democrats. If the Dems lose the House Ms. Pelosi won’t be Speaker anymore and there goes her power.

      • Seattle Moss

I had such high hopes for her in the beginning.
Pelosi has turned out to be the worst speaker in history.

      • Grail Guardian

s.hall you are entirely correct! Not voting for Obama is not enough. We need to make it eminently clear that down ticket Dems will suffer as well. That was Obama’s ammunition in garnering support, and it must be ours as well in getting it back for Clinton. Let every local, county, and state politician know that if Obama is the nominee you have no intention of voting for their sorry asses, either. Most importantly, follow through on it! If we allow the Democratic party to get away with hijacking the Constitution, the results will be much worse than a few years of discomfort by electing Republicans or others. At the very least, if you must vote for a down line Dem, select them on an alternate party if possible (ie: Liberal, Green, etc.). We need to send a powerful message to these power hungry people that we cannot be used in their money grabbing games!

strawberry — the one thing that Pelosi and Dean forgot to put in the equation is the Down Ticket Democrats. I gave my state party an earful when they called me today. They wanted to have a meeting with Hillary supporters because they are afraid of how Obama will effect down ticket Democrats. The state parties should contact the DNC and ask them what they are playing at–so many Democratic members of Congress are going to lose because of the unpopularity of Obama at the head of the ticket. The man I spoke to asked what would satisfy people like me — I told him we need an open convention and Hillary’s name should be put in Nomination. Just the way it would have in any other year — They have tried to make Hillary invisible and her supporters as well.

        • StrawberrybitesBarky

I need to think on this one, Hally. My plan (being from Washington State) was to (if they forced Hill off the ballot) vote for all the downticket democrats and McCain…Rossi as Gov makes me ill, see his history, he has caused a lot of pain. Did you see they are finally figuring out about obama’s over seas fund raiser on the internet? I could never figure out why no one reported about the British couple who’s cc was stolen in England and they only charges were 2 obama donations, that should have been a red flag
    http://groups.google.com/group/rec.martial-arts/msg/7e603b4929b2d98c

this is just part of the article
Obama’s internet campaign started out innocently enough with basic e-mail
networking , lists saved from previous party campaigns and from supporters
who visited any of the Obama campaign web sites.

Small contributions came in from these sources and the internet campaign
staff were more than pleased by the results.

Then, about two months into the campaign the daily contribution intake
multiplied. Where was it coming from? One of the web site security
monitors began to notice the bulk of the contributions were clearly coming
in from overseas internet service providers and at the rate and frequency of
transmission it was clear these donations were “programmed” by a very
    sophisticated user.

While the security people were not able to track most of the sources due
to firewalls and other blocking devices put on these contributions they were
able to collate the number of contributions that were coming in seemingly
from individuals but the funds were from only a few credit card accounts and
bank electronic funds transfers. The internet service providers (ISP) they
were able to trace were from Saudi Arabia, Iran, and other Middle Eastern
countries. One of the banks used for fund transfers was also located in
    Saudi Arabia.

Another concentrated group of donations was traced to a Chinese ISP with a
similar pattern of limited credit card charges.

NYT’s Bob Herbert turned on Obama. And look at the Letters to the Editor. Woohoo!

There has been a reluctance among blacks to openly criticize Senator Obama, the first black candidate with a real shot at the presidency. But behind the scenes, there is discontent among African-Americans, as well, over Mr. Obama’s move away from progressive issues, including his support of the Supreme Court’s decision affirming the constitutional right of individuals to bear arms.

    • Fred C. Dobbs

Contrary to the prejudices of white racists and the, “bros before ho’s” crowd, African Americans are NOT stupid or ill-informed.

Can we get that on the wire to Hope-a-Dope?

      • Hope Floats

92% of blacks seemed pretty stupid and ill-informed during the primaries. Sorry, but I will never forget the heartless slandering of the Clintons. My state I grew up in WV was called racist and scrutinized. So many articles came out about hillbillies, rednecks and white trash and how the Dems don’t need “them.” The bitter gun-toting bible thumpers. Oh. If Hillary were the presumptive nominee, you’d never hear the end of the outrage from blacks and the hard line left. Violence was threatened. People’s lives and jobs were threatened. Obama once said he could get Hillary’s voters, but she couldn’t get his. Blacks said they would sit home on election day, if Hillary the entitled “white woman” got the nomination. Well, I for one am one-upping “them.” I will vote McCain in a heartbeat. I support his policy and respect his career. Above all else, I know it’s a vote against Obama. The Dems would love me to sit this one out, but I won’t. I have lived in NY state for 12 years, and I hope it goes red this year. I know WV, KY, FL, MI and NH will. That’s a good start.

        • lute

Your opening comment could easily be
          construed as racist.
          You can’t generalize like that.

The Barakula campaign was clever about exploiting AAs by pumping propaganda over AA media outlets like radios.

          • wodiej

It isn’t generalizing when 92% of blacks voted for Obama. Stop w the racist crap-I’m sick of it and so is alot of other people. It is what it is. The Clintons have done alot for blacks. As soon as a “brotha” ran for office, they bailed on them. Why? Because they won’t get past the mentality that they are still “owed”. Despite Affirmative Action and a number of other incentives and laws to help them get a fair shake, it just isn’t enough for them. Unless they change their attitude and learn what is important (i.e. not the color of their skin), things will stay the same.

Obama isn’t remotely qualified and I could go on and on about his problems. Rev Wright’s church should have finished him immediately as far as I’m concerned. But no, the black community propped him up, and excused Obama sitting there listening to that racist, anti American crap for 20 years.

            • mummy smurf

Of courese with opinions like 92% of African Americans are dumb for supporting Obama you are not a bunch of racist bigots? Yeah right. Love to know why you moved from NC to WV.

African Americans supported the Clintons fully. When the first AA candidate has a chance of winning – the likes of you refuse to support him. So what does the African American population think of PUMA Democrats now?

BO did that? You mean “they” are under the bus but just don’t know it yet?

        • wodiej

Sadly 92% of blacks still live their lives and base decisions on their skin color. The only blame white people should get for that is making it so easy for them to do it.

        • Fred C. Dobbs

Doing stupid things and being inherently stupid are not (necessarily) linked. One could certainly empathized with, “One of US is running…let’s support him.”

The victory in Iraq leaves Obama with no justification for a candidacy. Turns out that he had terrible judgment and would have caused America’s defeat and retreat if he had been in office.
By not getting up and clapping the success like Hillary did at the state of Union
Obama showed that he wished defeat so that he could become president.

What the democrat elites are doing is retooling the party by creating a new power structure which includes the international elites, thugs from Chicago and certain super delegates.
What stood in their way was the Clinton wing.
They made their decision based on consolidating power and control of their selected nominee.
The New Democrats removed by force the FDR/Clinton moderates and have gambled on a new coalition which excludes us.
The republicans saw this coming and through a stroke of incredible luck and fate offered us McCain.

Seattle — The State Dem Parties are nervous about Obama now that the new polls numbers have come out showing that only 54% of Dems will support him in the GE. They have a right to be nervous. We are going to lose a lot of seats in Congress because of Obama and distaste Democrats have for what went down during the primaries. Pelosi and Dean showed us early on they wanted Obama to win. In pushing this candidate who is not qualified to be President against the will of the people they will destroy the Democratic Party and hand Congress to the Repubs.

              Hall
Fine with me! They need to be punished!

Basic issues such as equality, respect, fairness and a renewed emphasis on eliminating sexism by exposing the ones that created it.
McCain will nominate more women in history who will affect policy and mold those policies to help womens causes.
For me realism is the biggest issue.
McCain I know has the judgment and integrity to protect our country.

              • s. hall

Seattle — I totally agree. Its McCain’s turn. He has certainly earned the position. He is a good and decent man. I was watching O’Reilly today and he said McCain needs to be specific on what he do with regard auto manufacturers to make sure that our cars get better mileage. He mentioned a couple of other things too but what impressed me the most was that he said he cannot turn these things over to private industry. The US Government should make sure this gets done. I feel that the Republican Party is listening and the Democratic Party has become Animal House.

                • Seattle Moss

The republican party is being absorbed by the Clinton wing and adopting in stealth much of the moderate centrist philosophy which won two elections.
The McCain/Clinton party has been born. This new party is republican in name only.
The real revolution this year is at the center!

    Here’s GWB’s “High Water Mark”:

Calif. group proposes George W. Bush Sewage Plant

SAN FRANCISCO – A California group submitted a proposal Monday to rename a sewage treatment plant after President Bush, calling the initiative a fitting tribute to the outgoing chief executive and the “mess” he’ll leave behind.

    .

“In President Bush’s case, we think that we will be cleaning up a substantial mess for the next 10 or 20 years,” he said. “The sewage treatment facility’s job is to clean up a mess, so we think it’s a fitting tribute.”

The “mess,” as supporters of the plan see it, includes the aftermath of the Iraq war and what they see as a neglect of domestic economic issues.

“What we’re really doing is symbolizing the fact that as he leaves office, we’ll begin the process of basically repairing damage and rebuilding our country’s reputation,” he said.

Will somebody please tell me why Obama’s grandfather is said to have introduced him to communist party member Frank Marshall Davis when O. was a kid. What kind of family is this?

    • HARP

Sarah Obama, a devout Muslim, was quoted telling Obama Jr. “What your grandfather respected was strength. Discipline. This is also why he rejected the Christian religion, I think. For a brief time he converted [to Christianity], and even changed his name to Johnson. But he could not understand such ideas as mercy towards your enemies, or that this man Jesus could wash away a man’s sins. To your grandfather, this was a foolish sentiment, something to comfort women. And so he converted to Islam-he thought its practices conformed more closely to his beliefs.”

Obama Jr’s grandfather, for whom he was given the middle name, Hussein, was “fiercely devoted to Islam.” He had at least 3 wives: Helima, who had no children, Akuma who gave birth to Sarah Obama, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. and Auma Obama. The third wife was Sarah, who Obama Jr. refers to as his “grandmother.” Sarah became the primary care giver for Senior after his mother, Akuma, left the family when her children were still young.

At 18, Obama Jr’s father, Barack Obama Sr. (Senior), married a girl called Kezia from a local village.

Four years later (1957) Obama Sr., because of his father’s wealth and influence, was awarded an American sponsored scholarship in economics to the University of Hawaii. The presumption was that Obama Sr. would return to Africa and use his “Western-honed skills in a new Kenya.”

At the age of 23, Obama Sr. left behind his pregnant wife Kezia and their children to become the first African student enrolled at the University of Hawaii.

elizinsandi — what bothers me about Obama and Frank Marshall Davis is that he was also Obama’s mentor. A Communist was another of Obama’s mentors. Everybody is a daddy to Obama or I should say everything that is vile and hateful to the average American is what he is impressed with.

I was watching Fox today and they spoke about Obama and his cocaine abuse. In his spoken book Dreams of My Father he brags about how enthusiastic he was about using drugs and how he tried to avoid his school work. What a loser this guys is. When you think about the state this nation is in right now and no one at the Democratic Party vetted him. Amazing.

That’s the first thing that tipped me off to Obama’s problem in Denmark. His mother’s an atheist taking up with all these Muslims and Communists. Then Obama said he went to a Catholic school, but they listed him as Muslim. Then he just went to public school, but wasn’t ever a Muslim. I just thought, “Why bring Catholics into this mess? And how many “fathers” did you have?”

      • TeakWoodKite

And how many “fathers” did you have…just Dreams of them,.

  • Mr.Murder

The key to that fight was the high ground, where Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain(spell) did a textbook move to keep that under control for the Little Round Top.

The rocky hilltop dominated the flank, and when it seemed he was about to lose he used a swinging gate tactic. His men lined up a straight line and hinged at the center, cutting to a right angle. This kept the left side flank secure. It was a desperate move, one that normally could be used only with overhwelming numbers, he did it from desperation.

Because the flank held, it made the middle that much more important.

If you can’t anchor the flanks, no middle advance can carry forth. Anything else is setting you up for a crossfire.

Obama’s surrendered the most solid middle ground voters had to stand on(universal health care) and is trying stunts that lurch one direction to maintain some chance at high ground. Ground he already surrendered with how he campaigned against other Democrats. With the right wing panel of finance and economy hawks he has assembled, Obama is directing movement forward from their perspective, contrary to established classical norms for Democrats and even for greater populsim.

His idea of forward is actually a retreat from the longstanding pillars of policy and position for blue collar voters.

    • s. hall

Mr. Murder — the problem for Obama is that he is very unpopular among Democrats so now he has done a complete reversal and is a Defacto Republican. My question is now that Nancy and Howard know that Obama has thrown the Democratic Party under a bus will they still force him down our throats or will they quietly undermine him. Success has a 1,000 fathers failure is an orphan.

Here is an excellent site to hang on to. It is constantly updated ( check latest news ). Click on family and you should find your answer.

      http://www.theobamafile.com/

    • Lou

He was a neighbor to granddad and was a school mentor

  • elizinsandi

So was his white grandfather a convert to Islam?

    • HARP

No it sure dosen`t appear that way.

Stanley Ann (Anna) Dunham is born in Wichita, Kansas, on November 29th, 1942, to Stanley and Madelyn Dunham and would eventually live in 13 different places.

Stanley Dunham worked on oil rigs during the Depression. He enlisted for military service in World War II in June of 1942 and served in Patton’s 3rd Army. He saw no combat. Madelyn Dunham went to work on a bomber assembly line.

As an historical aside, Anna Dunham’s forebears were slaveholders, one of Obama’s great-great-great-great grandfathers, George Washington Overall, owned two slaves who were recorded in the 1850 Census in Nelson County, Ky. The same records show that one of Obama’s great-great-great-great-great-grandmothers, Mary Duvall, also owned two slaves.

  • elizinsandi

okay…I am getting a few impressions from the website. Thanks.

    • HARP

Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his “poetry” and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, “Dreams From My Father,” refers to him repeatedly as just “Frank.” Frank is the black communist writer now considered by some to be in the same category of prominence as Maya Angelou and Alice Walker

the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What’s more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations.

In his book, Obama writes about “a poet named Frank,” who visited his family in Hawaii, read poetry, and was full of “hard-earned knowledge” and advice. Who was Frank? Obama only says that he had “some modest notoriety once,” was “a contemporary of Richard Wright and Langston Hughes during his years in Chicago…” but was now “pushing eighty.” He writes about “Frank and his old Black Power dashiki self” giving him advice before he left for Occidental College in 1979 at the age of 18.

      • mahaska

I’ve taken to calling bo’s friends/mentors/whatever they are this week “fellow travellers”. An old term for communist sympathyzers (sp?).

      • Perry Logan

Right-wingers always say any Democrat running for President is a commie. But right-wingers are pathological liars.

By now, we can see that Obama has virtually no political views one way or the other.

      • TeakWoodKite

“Obama you be sure and look by dear friend Bill Ayers (sr) for me ok?”

        “Ok Frank”…

“He has connections and his kids can hook you up…”

The rest is a history with no paper trail.

    300 million dollars????

if the american people don’t want obama… where on earth is this mind blowing amount of cash money coming from???

we need a landslide victory for Mccain if we are to stop the theft of the election by obama and his thugs…

    a. hillary
    b. mccain

    america first!

  • Joe Smith

He has already spent the money. He is going broke on 300 million to run his campaign. Can you imagine what would happen if he was in change of the country. We would have a 15 trillion deficit before the 4 years would be over.

Excerpts from a July 4th Philadephia Inquirer editorial.

Is His Campaign Dishonest Or Disorganized?
    by Jonathan Last
    The Philadelphia Inquirer

There’s nothing wrong with a politician changing his mind. They all do it, and constancy in the face of error can be as harmful as flip-flopping.

Yet the month of June saw Barack Obama abandoning positions at a clip so brisk it should give even his most stalwart supporters pause.

In the wake of last week’s Supreme Court ruling overturning Washington’s handgun ban, for instance, the Obama campaign disavowed a 2007 statement it had made about the constitutionality of gun laws as “inartful.”

After claiming in May that he would debate John McCain “anytime, any place,” Obama declined to participate in a series of 10 town hall-style meetings, which the McCain campaign proposed.

In October, the Obama campaign promised that the senator would support a filibuster of any FISA bill that would grant retroactive immunity for telecom companies who helped the government with wiretapping. Last week, Obama announced that he would not filibuster the new FISA bill (which contains wiretapping immunity), and that instead he planned to vote for it.

At a dinner of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the pro-Israel lobby, Obama promised that “Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided.” Later, an Obama adviser clarified that Obama did not mean that Jerusalem should be literally “not divided.”

Here’s the campaign’s confusing explanation: “So [Obama] used a word to represent what he did not want to see again, and then realized afterwards that that word is a code word in the Middle East.” It remains unclear what situation Obama sees as preferable for Israel’s capital.

In 2004 he said that Iran was more dangerous than the Soviet Union had been because the radicals in Tehran could not be deterred by traditional strategic means. In late May, he changed his mind, saying that Iran doesn’t “pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us.” Faced with criticism, Obama then pivoted again, declaring Iran to be a “grave threat” to America.

Obama argued that America’s existing legal system is adequate for dealing with terrorists. In the first attack against the World Trade Center, he said “we were able to arrest those responsible, put them on trial. They are currently in U.S. prisons, incapacitated.” Which isn’t quite right: one of the terrorists involved in that attack, Abdul Rahman Yasin, fled afterwards to Iraq where he worked openly with Saddam Hussein’s regime.

Finally, there is the strange case of Obama’s phone call with Iraqi foreign minister Hoshay Zebari. After their discussion, Obama told reporters that Zebari never mentioned the candidate’s plan to withdraw American troops from Iraq. Zebari told a very different story: “My message [to Obama] … was very clear. … Really, we are making progress. I hope any actions you will take will not endanger this progress.” Zebari reported that Obama assured him he would “not take any irresponsible, reckless, sudden decisions or action to endanger your gains, your achievements, your stability or security.” It’s hard to square the differing accounts.

Obama’s very bad June suggests two possibilities: He may be one of the more unprincipled politicians we’ve seen recently – remember, Obama once mocked the Clintons for their prevarications, saying “They don’t tell you what they mean.” Or perhaps his mistakes are honest – which would make the Obama campaign one of the more intellectually disorganized enterprises in recent presidential history.

It’s unclear which prospect is greater cause for concern.

  • AJSHOPE

I wonder where the fundraising numbers from June are? If they were so amazing, there is no doubt that they would be plastered all over the place.

    • beebop

      I predict they SUCK!

  • DancingOpossum

The common element is to see to it that Obama not become POTUS.

In which case you HAVE to vote McCain. Voting third-party just dilutes the process and a write-in might go to Barack! If you really don’t want Obama to win you’ve already accepted that you’re OK with McCain winning, so it’s only logical to vote that way.

And vote downticket Dems. My local Dems didn’t ask to be saddled with the Obama albatross, and are mostly good guys/gals. They don’t deserve punishment. And a divided gov. will do McCain good.

Rob in Chicago, great post, and “Backtrack Obama” is priceless. I’ll have to borrow it (giving proper credit, of course; unlike BO I don’t steal credit, or votes, from others).

    • Grail Guardian

Sorry – I can’t vote for downline Dems. This is not about Obama, it’s about Democracy and what the party is doing to America. You wants to belong to a party that wishes to violate the Constitution and use Gestapo tactics against US citizens – you don’t get my vote. And they shouldn’t get yours either, if you truly wants to save this country from it’s would-be oppressors. This is not about Obama or Clinton anymore!

      • Grail Guardian

        Sorry – s/b you want

  • hootnannie

SENATOR OBAMA, WHERE IS YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE? The real one, the paper copy with an embossed seal! When will you call a press conference and show it to reporters? When you manage to have a bogus copy manufactured in some outpost of the third world? When?!

    • mummy smurf

Where is the birth certificate for McWar? He was not born in the US? Can he stand? Where is the birth certificate for Chelsea Clinton? McWar said she was fathered by Janet Reno?

  • anonymous

    Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!

There’s something interesting happening that, of course, the mainstream media is not reporting on. But, we here at HillBuzz have experienced this all throughout the Fourth of July long weekend: it’s something we didn’t expect, and weren’t quite prepared for, but something that bodes VERY badly for Obama in the fall.

  • http://mmb silverfox

to” chicago and proud”,”mummysmurf”, and all all bobobots that find their way here:

your obvious kool-aid addiction is glaring but also may be wearing a little thin on your fragile systems at this point. watch for signs of kool aid withdrawal. the symptoms can be quite subtle before they get really bad.. …

poor littles. can you say “brown shirt”?

Sen McCain’s life experience in and out of politics, his obvious and active respect for Sen Clinton, and his deeply held convictions and values regarding service to this country puts obobo to shame.

Obobo the Sham. crown prince of.. uh,…uh,… Nada.

    Hillary or John.

    no other choice.

  • BoboBolinsky

Please, all your jealousy of Obama is unbecoming. Can’t you think of the good of this country for a change? Yes CHANGE – all of you.

    • Dan R.

We ARE thinking of the good of the country, Bobo. That’s why we don’t want to see this consummate fraud as president. John McCain may not be as pretty or as exciting as Barack Obama, but he represents substance, not flash. And substance is what we need.

  • DancingOpossum

There are also big problems with Obama’s “centralizing” of all Democratic party functions. He’s turning local Dem chapters into extensions of his presidential campaign, and that is hurting downticket Dems in small races e.g. state legislatures. But Obama doesn’t care. It’s never been about the Democratic Party or Democratic principles with him. Never. It’s always me, me, me, me, me with Obama. That’s why I laugh when the ‘bots whine “but we haaaave to elect a Democrat!” Yes, we do. Unfortunately there isn’t one running in this race anymore.

  • http://www.despair.com/changewinds.html Smilin’ Jim

Johnson, I think you’re pissing against the win.

I too nearly flatlined with an overload of mainline Schadenfreude when Barry made his readjustments. Hallelujah, the host of the politically naive who bought his flim-flam were about to left bewildered, to twist dangling in the wind.

Then I entered the great orange cave after his blog entry in which all was made clear. Christ!! over 2500 “Gee, I wish I had thought of that Barry” and “Yup, you really made me think”. Cut to The Mummy where Brendan Frazier’s character is being pursued by the mob of the mesmerized chanting Imhotep, Imhotep, Imhotep.

You might try to find some old widdrer woman in a Virginia holler that could mix up a concoction to break that spell but I’m of the opinion that it is wasted effort. Liberal Democrats are dumber than retarded mule drool, that’s why I bailed after Mondale.

Exhibit B in my tale of woe is today’s Washington Post editorial. Barry’s been barracking all his opponents over Iraq and touting having the boys home a heartbeat after he places his hand on the Bible. Now it seems that he’s inching toward the McCain Hundred Year Club. Had Clinton done that the Post would report that it was PROOF POSITIVE that she was a CYNICAL POLITICO that would STOOP TO NOTHING to get ELECTED. So what sayith the Washington Post? Their editor doth sweetly croon.

    “Obama’s Sensible Retreat”

The Media will forever report that truly, beams of golden sunlight will forever emanate from that yuppie’s ass. Thank you, Winston Smith.

  • Dawnelle

not all PUMA’s a voting for McCain

it depends on which state most of us live in

so it’s as varied as people’s interests and the needs of their state (red or blue)

  • jwrjr

You brought race into this, not the PUMAs.

  • catherine

The difficulty is that with Hillary out of the race, what choice do mainstream Democrats have? It has been said that if we stay home as Democrats it will help Obama win. If we vote for McCain we can more likely keep Obama out. It is not an easy thing to do by any means but the DNC has given us little choice- something they knew would happen. I suspect many PUMAS do not want to vote for McCain but see he has more centrist views on at least some of the issues, such as immigration, compared to Bush and his cronies. Having said that, I think it is a very hard decision, and I suspect the PUMAS are divided in what they will do. The common element is to see to it that Obama not become POTUS. There is just too much at stake and it has nothing to do with the color of this candidate’s skin.

  • tampagurl

It’s the basic issue of character for me. Let’s face it, politicians are politicians. I would rather vote for a person (I don’t care what race he is) who have served and given to our country vs. someone who sits in a church for 20 years and listens to his Reverend sh*t on our country. And before you go and start to talk about 100 years of war…let me ask you something, do you honestly believe that Americans would allow 100 years of actual fighting? C’mon.

  • Diana

No to translate the quote: He was good enough to be called upon in ’04 to run as a Democrat, but now he’s not? Now he’s the evil that lurks in our dreams. Not buying it. Don’t think many of us haven’t heard it all before? Your wrong. Do you think they welcomed us with open arms when we voted for Reagan? Now let’s just look how that turned out, one of the top 10 presidents in history. Hmmmm. Looks like we didn’t do too bad then, and I don’t think any of us that will vote for McCain now are making a mistake.

Obama claims to support women’s rights…why are the women on his payroll paid less than the men? Why are most the votes concerning women and children present votes. Yet he votes for those that commit rape, stalking, crimes against children? In fact voted in favor of them more than once.

Not the same in the McCain camp, it’s the opposite and McCain isn’t the one pounding his chest on supporting women’s rights with a truckload of present votes.

In McCain’s camp he does pay women just as much and more than he pays the men. He’ll nominate more women to higher offices, giving us a much louder voice. Like I’ve said before I don’t see McCain running a second term. Which will open the doors once again in four years for Hillary. I also don’t see it being a mistake, just as I didn’t see voting for Reagan a mistake.

You offer up a horrible candidate I’m going to vote country over party. Nothing more, nothing less. So please quit trying to read between the lines. You allow your imagination to run wild and that’s not always a good thing. This isn’t a novel where if you don’t like what you’ve written you can change it. Or a piece of artwork on a canvas that can be fixed. Once you realize the mistake here. It’s too late, and he’s offered more than a glimpse of what he brings to the table. Or do I need to remind you of Nafta, Iraq, Fisa, etc…etc.

  • NoBamaNoWay

you can shove your lying race-baiting bullshit up your ass, your worthless piece of shit. YOU and your bullshit racism charges are at least 50% of the reason i won’t vote for your messiah.

  • Hope Floats

You haven’t been paying attention. McCain says troops should finish their mission in Iraq, and he’s right. The strategies he suggested, contradicting Bush and in some cases drawing admiration from Democrats, are all working. It’s Obama now who thinks we can win the War On Terror by pulling troops out or Iraq and sending them in to Afghanistan and Pakistan. McCain is opposed to this.

  • C.S.

Considering that Obama is worshiping at the feet of Ronald Reagan; who was president during what is considered the greatest crime in history, the demise of the Savings and Loan banking industry; I’d say you’re taking more of a chance with Obama than McCain. But I doubt you really care about whose best for the country or you’d be asking Mr. Obama more questions about his shady past and worry less about McCain’s public record.

Why fault anyone else who does the same?

    Same rules.

  • Brodie

Who the hell are you to demand to know why we all (a VERY diverse group) are considering voting for McCain and attack us for something which HASN’T EVEN HAPPENED YET? What HAS happened, though, is that the primary was hijacked by Nobama, his handlers & the DNC. That might be OK w/you- whatever- that’s your problem. My problem is that I cannot condone what has happened, or who has been forced down our throats by the whole illegal process. I cannot allow them to get over on all of us without a fight. I own my vote, and I don’t owe you or anyone else an explanation. If you want to discuss platform, policies, attitudes or past legislative accomplishments of any candidate- fine. I know why I support HIllary and why I DON’T support Nobama. In general, I prefer an honest enemy to a false friend any day of the week. I don’t trust Nobama as far as I can throw him. He rings my BS alarm. He has no accomplishments save running for office. He didn’t take advantage of the office by actually creating any change when he attained those positions, however. I have no reason to expect he would do any different if he were to become POTUS. So, if it becomes necessary, I will vote for McCain or the freakin’ cat over Nobama because I don’t want him anywhere near the White House. I hope that is clear enough for you. No- McCain is not my candidate of choice. But neither was Kerry and I voted for him- reluctantly. The DNC is determined to screw up this election, not us. Why don’t you start sending THEM emails & demanding to know why they did what they did? And if you think Nobama is just fine- then you’ve come to the wrong place- WE DON’T. Quit your bullying & go away. There is no “smokescreen”, there is only a pitifully unaccomplished “selectee” with no record, save that of changing his mind every other day who is surrounded by some backers whom I would rather not have in control of my country. Simple, really.

Obama has been in the United States Senate for less than 150 days, and he thinks he has the judgment to be president.
    Look at his associates…
Do you call that good judgment?
McCain spent over 1900 days as a POW and over 20 years in the Senate.

Voting 3rd party or staying home doesn’t have the same impact because 3rd party candidates have no chance of winning.

  • no waffles aka drkate

    race card. yawn.

  • helen

I am not voting for his white half either.
He is a racist – anti american – know nothing and this country deserve much better.

  • Karma

LOL…We don’t the corrupt Chicago machine in the White House….what part of that are you having probelms understanding?

That is reason enough to vote for McCain or any other Republican with a pulse.

Chicago and proud…what has the Illinois legislature ever done that should be brought to the national level?

The highest tax rate? The highest gas taxes?

Politicians that steal taxpayer’s money for the housing projects? Iron fences that collapse on children, or is it the garbage and rat infested housing?

Keep your sleazy politicians and those terrorist grifters away from the White House!

I am not interested in what they are selling!

  • tampagurl

    LMAO….strawberry!!

  • imustprotest

We OWE him an explanation?? I haven’t heard that since I was 15 and snuck out and took a little joy ride around the block in my dads VW..young lady you owe me an explanation!! LOL

  • imustprotest

It’s my party and I’ll vote how I want to.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

No it’s about country, as in, country above party. Something Bushbots and Obamabots both fail to see.

At least he/she didn’t mention Roe. Is that progress?

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

You don’t understand? Let me guess, you were left behind. Sylvan has reading comprehension classes all summer long, see if your parents will pick up the tab.

  • thetownecrier

    Like that!

  • MaryPat

He never “promised” a 100 year war. That is a total mischaracterization of what McCain said. YOU don’t make any sense.

Obama is pitifully short on experience. He has abysmal judgment. And he has NO integrity.

The clincher is that, at this point in time, I have no idea what his positions on the issues truly are, and what he might do if elected.

Why would I vote for someone like that?

  • Teakwood

When in the entire history of man has there not been war some where on the planet?

You are a real sucker if think MCcain is looking for 100 years of war. Doesn’t mean you can’t proud of it though.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

Barky wants the war to continue too, Powers said so.

  • Karma

Obama doesn’t have the political juice to buy his own children a house without the money men…and you think he can end a war!?

McCain stated it would be military presence in Iraq…..which Obama has also stated would be the case.

Twist it somewhere else….on the Iraq war….they are the same. Even Rachel Maddow filling in for Olbermann was carrying Obama’s water today showing all the quotes.

However, in place of answering what exactly has the Illinois legislature ever done worth exporting on a national level, you try and divert with lies.

    Typical Obama supporter…yawn.

  • Linda K

Howling about the war continuously will not garner your candidate any votes. “It is a tale told by an idiot. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
p.s. attemping to employ intellectual legerdemain doesn’t work here. You’re simply on a rant.

  • HARP
  • StrawberrybitesBarky

No douche, vote McCain and vote all down ticket Democrats to ensure gridlock until Hillary runs in 2012. Or vote Hillary if the SDs pull their heads out of their asses. God, you are thick.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

Would you shut up already. We will do what we please, who are you anyhow? Fucking Castro? Oh yeah, you and Barky love those types. Douche.

  • http://OTliesvideo Lyn

WE think Obama will be a nightmare for the Country, what part of that don’t you understand? Country before Party.

  • TeakWoodKite

You’re giving him hero status day and night on the MSM day and night!

Hero “status” is not given. It is accorded to the person that sacrificed or put their ass on the line to assist/aid others and this country.

BO has done none of this and the ONLY thing he has put on the line is a rolled up dollar bill.

  • methinks

“Obama has been in the United States Senate for less than 150 days, and he thinks he has the judgment to be president.”

    OUCH! Truth bites.

  • mahaska

Bo wasn’t even man enough to buy a house for his family without the help of crooks.

  • ritamary

BO is now saying that he will consult with the military to decide when to withdraw troops. Sounds more and more like Bush everyday.

Let the Democratic Congress do its job and control McCain. This is the constitutional obligation of Congress. Take leaderships roles away from Reid, Pelosi, Dean and Brazile.

  • tampagurl

This shit makes my head hurt!

  • methinks

And once again, is this legal?

  • beebop

So, foreigners are buying themselves a president? No wonder he objected to a stiff arm to the Chinese for the opening ceremoney ….

  • ritamary

Obama already is a nightmare for this country. Can anyone think of any politician who has caused more division in the Democratic Party? This is just another example of the Democratic Party seizing defeat from the jaws of victory.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

Really, you’ll get your sorry ass outta’ here, pigboy? Here let me hold the door for you. Weenie.

  • MaryPat

You’re done with me? I was voting Democratic–and working for Democratic politicians–before you were born, you sanctimonious twit. Who the hell do you think you are?

I am done with YOU. I don’t talk to people with IQ’s that fall short of double digits.

  • Rob in Chicago

And you probably like to pull out the line that Hillary voted for the war also. P.U.M.A.s appear to have much greater reading comprehension abilities and more appreciation of nuanced positions than Obamabots. I personally don’t care for most of McCains stated policy positions, but I’m from Chicago, I know what a sleazy politician looks, acts, and sound like; and I know that I can’t vote for Backtrack Obama. Illinois will likely vote for its favorite son candidate, so my vote for McCain would amount to a protest vote, nothing more, nothing less. McCain could be hamstrung by a solidly Democratic House & Senate, but only if they are able to locate their lost gonads in sufficient numbers to keep him in check. McCain will also likely be a one-term placeholder of the Presidency, which would leave the door open for Hillary to make another run at the office, if a loss in 2008 results in a return to sanity in the Democratic party, and unemployment for Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, and the other co-conspirators in the hijacking of the Democratic Party.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

Dems, did you just use the term “Dems”? You do know that Rove requested that republicans refer to us as “Dems” because it’s close to “Dims” another right wing term used by Republicans…you thicko pogue, rightwing bot.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

Good now leave, you twonk. I hate wimpy guys.

  • http://OTliesvideo Lyn

Obama said McCain would be a better president than Bush
and WHY do you think Obama will end the war? He flipped on every other promise so far and is revisiting his Iraq plans

  • tampagurl

oh god, I bet his another one of those nutty Ron Paul supporters.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

I’m sure you are quite used to females laughing at your weenie, pigboy.

  • Karma

Obama can’t buy his own children a house without money men…but you think he can end a war he has stated he won’t?

    LOL…

Sorry….I don’t lie to myself about the candidates.

Feel free to pretend that Obama will end the war, when he has stated the same case that Bush has since he actually started voting in the US Senate. It will be a humanitarian disaster if we leave.

It only took a matter of DAYS before Obama was supporting/voting to fund the war, those who lied to get us into war, or the war profiteers.

DAYS! Before the man who was against the war…finally had to vote for it and reveal what a spineless, lying, coward he really was.

Keep your sleaze…Chicago has produced nothing politically that needs to exported on the nation level. Absolutely nothing!

  • http://OTliesvideo Lyn

You seriously believe Obama will end the war? He keeps revisiting the idea and now says he isn’t sure when the withdrawl will start.

Getting U.S. combat troops out of Iraq is a key Obama goal, and one where he said he is misunderstood. His campaign materials say Obama would begin withdrawing combat troops from Iraq, one or two brigades a month, as soon as he takes office. But he added in the interview that the start of the withdrawal also depends on the security conditions on the ground

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Get off the 100 year war crap. We all know where that’s at.

It’s Obama who is iffy about what he will do about getting out of Iraq.

Actually I ran into a friend today just back from a year in Iraq (Army medical)and he confirms that the “surge” has made a big difference and within the past 3-4 months it has changed dramatically for the better. I doubt that McCain wants to be there one minute longer than necessary. I can’t even conceive of BHO in a leadership position working with the military. Frankly, today on the news he simply looked silly talking about military strategy.

  • Seattle Moss

I’m glad that McCain is concerned about America’s strategic interests in the world. I’m also glad that he wants to continue the job of building a Democratic Iraq which is allied with the United States against Islamic terrorism and Iran.

    Obamabots..

    We have won this war!
You have lost your main reason for existence.

  • Lou

He accuses others of being racist because he’s projecting his own racism..he and his Barfy Obummer.

  • Seattle Moss

I think McCain is looking like the best candidate for our times.

Betcha a dollar he is already in negotiations…no need for preconditions.

So there!

That is a surprising article for MaDo to write. Seems more likely she would be calling anyone looking into this a racist instead. I guess everyone gets tired of the stink up barkys ass every once and a while and needs to pull out.

We are happy to vote for the nominee who actually did win the primary.
    It is not Barack Obama.
