Hillary Watch: “Clinton leads high-drama cellphone diplomacy from black BMW”

This is our Hillary. She takes care of business, and she gets historic, difficult diplomatic feats completed.

Uh, I just have to ask: Can you imagine Barack Obama EVER doing something as complex and difficult?

From “Clinton leads high-drama cellphone diplomacy from black BMW at Breitbart.com:

In a black BMW outside a chalet-style hotel in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used high-drama cellphone diplomacy to clinch a historic Armenian-Turkish deal.

“There were several times when I said to all of the parties involved that ‘this is too important, this has to be seen through, you have come too far,’” the chief US diplomat recalled afterward on the plane from Zurich to London.

A last-minute hitch had raised doubts over whether Armenia and Turkey would follow through on two years of roller-coaster negotiations to finally sign documents in Zurich on Saturday to normalise ties and open their shared border.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday evening, everything seemed in place for the two sides to mark a first step to reconciliation after a century of hostility over World War I-era massacres.

With her traveling press corps in tow, Clinton’s motorcade arrived at the University of Zurich for the ceremony where foreign ministers Edouard Nalbandian and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu would sign the deal.

Suddenly, the motorcade turned tail and sped back up the hills to the Dolder Grand Hotel. Nalbandian had balked at signing the deal because he had concerns about a statement his Turkish counterpart would read, US officials said later.

It was the start of a three-hour mini diplomatic roller-coaster.

[...]

Clinton used different cellphones inside the car to speak to both the Turkish and Armenian foreign ministers, a senior State Department official told reporters on the condition of anonymity.

There were also calls to the Swiss mediators and other diplomatic players.

You’ll want to read the entire story about how Hillary pulled this off.

  • Gary

Hillary to the rescue. Thanks for the story Larry. You certainly weren’t going to hear about this in the lame stream media.

  • ~~JustMe~~

We all knew ~~She was the One~~

    Rise Hillary Rise.

  • ImaLlindatoo

Yep, that’s our Hillary answering the 3AM call. And no doubt DUFUS (dumbass under fascist united states) was thrilled she came to the rescue. But, will he acknowledge her efforts and action that gave the world this win?

  • MG

The media will never give her credit! If they did, they would have to admit that Hilary was the most experience of the two and pretty O was only an empty suit.
All O can do, is carry his TelePrompTer and read his speeches.

  • http://www.BullShit.com Osellingbullshit

Now, that’s how shit get done. And awards are given , they mean something. Respect===HILLARY!

    Hillary all the way!

I repeat.. The only thing good about the current administration is HILLARY R. CLINTON period.

  • Peggy Sue

I read this over the weekend, Bronwyn. Very impressive. Was I surprised? Hardly. Hillary is doing what she’s always done–working her ass off, whether she gets credit or not.

She is the bright spot in this Administration!

    http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/10/12/hillary-clinton-rules-out-white-house-bid-says-shes-totally-s/

In the middle of a diplomatic mission through Europe, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made headlines at home this morning when she closed the door on another bid for the presidency.

In an interview on the “Today” show, Ann Curry asked if Clinton ever wishes she, rather than Barack Obama, was setting U.S. policy as the commander-in-chief. “I have to tell you,” Clinton said, “it never crosses my mind.”

Curry followed up, “Will you ever run for president again?”

    “No,” Clinton said.

    “No?”

“No, no” Clinton insisted, laughing. “This is a great job. It is a 24-7 job. And I’m looking forward to retirement at some point.”

If this is final on Hillary’s part, it is truly heartbreaking.

  • felizarte

I hope that Hillary’s “No” when asked by Ann Curry of Today Show whether she is running again for the presidency is NOT ETCHED IN STONE. That would truly be heartbreaking and such a terrible waste of true talent; a great loss for the country and the world.

I hope that it is an answer as of today only, subject to change with special circumstances arising in the future.

  • barry bums a ciggie

C’mon y’all. He’s busy doing other stuff, like playing some B-ball.

Oct. 9 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama wanted to hold court with LeBron James. He made do yesterday with Cabinet officials and lawmakers.

In perhaps the most exclusive after-work, backyard basketball game ever, the president recruited players from the ranks of the executive branch and Congress to play on the converted tennis court on the White House’s South Lawn.

The group played 10 games over about two hours, with everyone switching teams throughout, said Representative Michael Arcuri, a New York Democrat and one of the participants. Arcuri, 50, was a forward on his high school team.

Thanks for making me cry about the “World’s Loss” again.

    CAROL HAKA

  • JMM

It’s politics. Nothing is ever etched in stone. I have to believe that in this case so I can make it through the day.

  • Clara

And she carried it off with no massive crowds at her feet and not a teleprompter in sight.

  • Obamastolemycountry

Yes, just me. It wasn’t just you!

Hillary was the one. We will all suffer greatly for this travesty of justice!

We can only hope that the truth will come out, as it always does. I pray that the wrong will someday be made right because the world seems to work that way, too. I still want to believe the good guys really do win eventually, and the bad guys like Dufus (see below)eventually get caught and go to jail or whatever karma they deserve!

  • FranSC

If he acknowledges her efforts, it will be the exception rather than the rule. I don’t ever hear him acknowledge anyone but, “my administration, my economic advisors, my this, my that, me, me, me, me, or Michelle and I, or Michelle, the girls, and I.”

I think he is constantly terrified that Hillary and/or Bill will upstage him, regardless of their graciousness and deference. He is determined to keep her on a short leash. He would never give her the so-called *freedom* he has given AG Eric Holder. Someone said today that foreign policy is not 0bama’s thing. He is no doubt impressed that Hillary has done as well as she has under his rule and made lemonade out of the lemons he tossed her.

Anyone who doubts this man’s serious case of narcissism is not listening.

I sooo hope you’re right. It breaks my heart to consider that Hillary might not run again. The thought that keeps me going is the image of Nixon saying, “You won’t have me to kick around anymore.” And then running and winning the Presidency. There must be a way to have HRC run again.

  • FranSC

Not to worry, felizarte. Anyone working in an administration could never give the slightest hint of a possible plan to run against their boss. That especially applies to Hillary. She can’t afford to voice an opinion that differs with his. So the “No” is not worth the air that it took for her to say it. Take heart!

  • Ferd Berfle

Amazing, isn’t it. She goes about her business doing the work of a diplomat, never telegraphing her next move, never showing her cards, and never yapping at every possible moment. She just works and works and works. From what I’ve seen of her in action as SoS, she is quite respected abroad–and not because she works for what’s-his-name who recently got that formerly-respected NPP.

  • hot librarian.

    This is very USA slanted.

In fact there were foreign ministers in attendance from the EU , France Russia & Britain .

In particular Serge Lavrov des not go to things that fail.

Wherever he is -the deal has been done if he is there.

  • Ferd Berfle

    This is very USA slanted

Ahem, this blog originates in the USA. And BTW: if Serge Lavrov does not go to things that fail, then he must stay at home a lot.

  • felizarte

Thank you guys for the comforting words.

  • snosandy

Hillary brokers peace and Obama gets the prize…..

  • sowsear

It wouldn’t make political sense for her to say that she intends to run. Think what would happen immediately.

  • sowsear

The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong…Obama wins and Hillary loses. It’s so unfair. That is what is etched in stone.

  • candymarl

So in other words Serge only shows up when it’s a done deal so that no failure can be attached to his name. That’s some good politicking there.

  • Lana

My first thought as I read this: which news stations covered this??

  • janice

oh wow-hillary to the rescue. your hero. and i thought the Obamabots had too much koolaid in their veins??? this is sickening – adore her much?? and, by the way, Obama DID call her immediately and thank her and gave her credit as did almost ALL the media – this is old news already.

  • FranSC

Janice, please supply us with the link to that “thank you” and credit he gave her and/or a link to the media credit given to Hillary. That’s what I thought – doesn’t exist.

  • btintaos

Yes, adore her LOADS. She does the real work while Obama fondles his ACORNS.

  • Jackarooty

That greasy fat drunken sot Christopher (not “Chris”) Hitchens complimented her Monday on Morning Joe for closing this deal.

Pigs are flying and hell has frozen over.

  • http://rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com Rabble Rouser Revrend Amy

    Amen to that…

She is such a treasure, and despite the Obots and right wingers who tried to take down, here she is doing the work that needs to be done…

  • Sassy

Someone in this country’s leadership still takes their responsiblity seriously?
Wow, you could have “knocked me over with a feather”!
Every success Hillary has must grate on the BO sycophants, and that’s a good thing!

  • rosa

Yes we do adore her even more since we got an inexperienced person as pres and he has NOT kept his promises on anything ,he cannot speak intelligently on every subject like she can and ALL without a telprompter !! Another thing is where have you seen all this about Hillary because i believe the Ob handlers minimize every thing she has done. Can’t let her abilities to do the job shine, while he gives the same teleprompter speeches over and over. guess the gays have finally had enough, now if the poor ,the ones he supposedly supported would pay attention. the unions that supported him are all losing jobs, so wheres their jobs and benifits going? rise up and speak out!!

  • makeji

Hillary just gave over our last bargaining chit to Russia. She’s drinking the kool-aid.

  • rosa

I think says it all and her point was made in many ways.”I find it absurd,” she said. “I find it beyond any realistic assessment of what I’m doing every day. I think there is such — you know, maybe there is some misunderstanding which needs to be clarified. . . . Now, maybe that is a woman thing. Maybe I’m totally secure and feel absolutely no need to go running around in order for people to see what I’m doing. It’s just the way I am.”

  • kc

At the end of her career, what prize will Hillary win, I wonder? Everyone’s respect, one would hope.

  • PoliticalWaif

A bit premature to label this “peace” and toss the confetti. This Swiss brokered deal, begun last year under Condi as SOS, still has to be ratified by both parliaments. Quite a bit of heat on both sides.

Suggest you keep your champagne bottle corked for a while yet.

  • morris1030

Watching Hillary in action emphasizes what a detached, inexperienced narcissist Obama is.

  • morris1030

It embarrasses the MSNBC crowd to compliment Hillary for any reason.

  • mark connette

rescue? She got zip from the russians…..nadda. nothing. thats hardly a rescue…jeeeeez

  • mary

I read this in the Turkish-Armenian correspondent’s story, I believe Harraet. In any event, Hillary’s last-minute efforts were the buzz in EUROPEAN newsstories as they thought the deal would NOT have been signed.

The Armenian Foreign Minister had to meet Hillary personally at the hotel prior to ensure all went smoothly and it did! THANKS TO HILLARY’S EFFORTS!
The morons up above below the blog don’t know what they are talking about! Everyone acknowledged — not so much the American media, but read AP’s–CBC and BBC as well.
On a different note, you surely cannot blame the Armenians for the GENOCIDE committed by the Muslim (Ottoman) Turks in WWI. The American Ambassador Monteghue wrote about the barbaric pillage and raping of children on the road by the hudnreds as they were about to be exterminated and most died starving along the railway where the bloody Turkish monsters left them. ONE MILLION RAPED, TORTURED AND MURDERED–the Turkish legacy.
The Turks were on the side of NAZIS in WWII and contributed to the Jews’ mass murders in the Baltic. Also exterminated thousands of Greeks in Smyrna in 1922. The Muslim Turks should never become part of the European Union!!!
They should ACKNOWLEDGE THE GENOCIDE first and then do reparation to the Armenian communities.
But thanks should go to HIllary because without HER help the Armenian minister would not have attended the signing of the HISTORIC ACCORD!

P.S. I did read that Obama did phone her (through telempropter?) to give her his “sincere thanks”. I believe CNN covered this. Not sure. It’s hard for me to believe the moron is capable of appreciation for his S o S–unless he needs her for further work.

I just saw on PBS that they are going to be showing

“THE WARNING” — A PBS documentary October 20.

All about the WOMAN HERO Brooksley Born (head of Commodity Futures Trading Commission) who, back in l996 warned the idiot Rubin and the Alan Greenspan and Larry Summers (the Unholy Triad) of the impending disaster to visit the Unregulated Markets if they didn’t clean up their act on the financial derivatives.
The men told her to shut up and we all know what happened 10 years later….It sort of reminds one of Hillary’s primary and her WARNING about the impending ‘disaster presidency’ of a half-baked, inexperienced, uncommitted Empty Suit…..eh?
