RRRAmy, Since the DNC approved of the SC Primary being frontloaded into the primary schedule, at least the DNC did not consider the rules had been violated. There was at least one other state that got DNC approval to change their date.

I just today ran into this little tidbit: On March 23, 2009, VA Gov Tim Kaine and 0bama appointed DNC Chairman, announced a 37 member Democratic Change Commission which will recommend changes to the Dem Party's rules for the 2012 presidential nominating and delegate selection process. Then the bombshell - Guess who Gov Kaine named as Co-Chairs of the Change Commission! SC REP. JAMES CLYBURN AND MISSOURI SENATOR CLAIRE MCCASKILL!!

This was horrifying news. That is like making a bank robber in charge of guarding the safe.

NO I think the Obama's are better of visiting one of the other states that we have...ya 51,52,53,54,55,56 and what was the 57th state?

I know the one state has a state motto of, "The Idea of Obama".

What I have always wondered about is how Clyburn became the whip. Nancy did this for some reason and it wasn't apparent at the time, prior to the primaries.

Perhaps she knew he would keep the Dems in line out of fear of being called racist. They even called the BlueDogs racists...

Go figure.

Fran, you raise a good point. Yes, Clyburn was more like Sir Guy of Gisborne to the Sheriff of Nottingham than a patsy, I suppose. That is, doing all the dirty work and laying the ground work for taking down the "good guy" with any nefarious means available.

Thank you so much for listing out all Clyburn did here in our state. Those of us who live here know it, but those who don't live here probably have no idea the lengths to which he went to discredit Hillary Clinton (and Bill), and to smooth the path for The One with all you listed.

Of particular interest is his moving up the Primary - and ALL of our delegates counted even though we were way early in violation of the rules. Funny how that happens, huh?

Read the piece again - it was the Richland County GOP chair, not the chair for the entire state. What he said was reprehensible, no doubt abt it. But he does not speak for the whole state. Hell, he doesn't speak for the State GOP. But nice try attempting to conflate the two.

Like most people here Clyburn lost me during the primaries when he went after the Clintons.

I have to admit I've been LMAO when I read this statement at the beginning of your article:

how can you vote on a bill that is not written down???

You know what I'm going to say...c'mon...how can you award the Nobel Peace Prize to a man that has done nothing to deserve it? Hahahaha!

Great article as always Amy!

ROTFLMAO - uh, yeah, you could say that! I lost all respect for him not only for his repeated backstabbing and race baiting of the Clintons, but the rampant nepotism he engages in here in the CHarleston area. Oh, his family has done QUITE well since he got into office. Sheesh.

And yes, AnonOMouse, it says a whole lot abt Clyburn that he would demean the very people who elected him. Both you and DocElder have it right...

Right after she gets back from visiting school children in Kentucky I guess... which is never. The Obama's don't do things for others... they do them for themselves. Nothing for the Obama's in visiting S.C. right now, but maybe something in feigning an inability to do so. Michelle is such the martyr, she should risk it all and go to S.C. just to show the little people how magnanimous she is. Not.

Well, am I safe in assuming he won't call you a campaign donor? LOL!

This is a bitter-hearted old man, who refuses to acknowledge that race has not stopped him from achieving a degree of success. He will carry his grievances to the grave, and then refuse to wear a white robe!

RRRAmy, As you probably have gathered, I get very riled up about Clyburn. Watchdog is spot on about Clyburn feeling snubbed by His and Her Highness and the reason for Clyburn's manipulative rhetoric about the dangers of either of them coming to her home state. That is absurd! But I can see why he is no doubt very upset by it and why he is using misplaced anger.

I'm not sure I understand your description of Clyburn as 0's "Patsy". Clyburn's role for the 2008 election cycle was far more than merely "Patsy" status for 0bama. He was a primary architect for 0's eventual success. The 0 campaign did not direct Clyburn. Clyburn did the directing. Without James Clyburn's dirty work, Hillary would be POTUS. There was NO ONE more sinister, more corrupt, more divisive than Clyburn. Every move he made was racially motivated:

1) He convinced the DNC to move SC's primary so that instead of being in the summer it would be the 3rd contest after Iowa, NH & NV in January. Remember Michigan & Florida? His reasoning was SC has a high AA voter registry - 50-60% of voters are AA. He said AA's needed to have an early voice in the nominating process. The DNC lapped this up and couldn't say yes fast enough.

Make no mistake about it, this had everything to do with 0bama's candidacy and Clyburn was determined to activate that base to the nth degree. He further convinced the DNC to hold the primary the week of January 21st - MLK's birthday week.

2) Clyburn also asked for and readily got one of the debates - booked for MLK's birthday, Mon.Jan. 21st. The day began with a march to the SC Capitol in Columbia in which the candidates participated - that is, all but The One it was all planned around. His Highness couldn't make it and those were the days that 0bama made it look like he was *post* racial. Hillary, John Edwards and others marched and made rousing MLK speeches, as if that would matter.

3) The debate was one of the more contentious ones. I tried to get tickets as soon as it was announced. None were available. Clyburn was in charge of the tickets. The audience was basically AA.

4) The race-baiting started in SC when Clyburn rushed to the first microphone available with the out-of-context fairy tale statement; then Clinton's Jesse Jackson remarks were twisted into racism. Donna Brazile picked up the race card for CNN's coverage that evening, appearing to be on the edge of tears, and expressing grave dismay over "President Clinton's remarks". Race had already been used in Iowa and NH. Clyburn piously said he was uncommitted, but if Bill Clinton did not stop his racial comments, he would endorse "a" candidate. He would say this several times that week.

5) Clyburn got Teddy Kennedy swept up as well. Kennedy called Clinton to warn him that he was going to announce for 0bama if Bill did not stop. The fix was already in, however, because that decision was made early on. Bill Clinton plead with Kennedy not to do it, but the Monday following the SC primary, the Kennedys and Oprah held a rally to announce their endorsement of 0bama which many considered a fatal blow to Hillary's campaign.

6) 0bama won the SC primary with 91% AA voter support. White voters hardly participated. All the activating was done in the AA communities. Although that vote was skewed and not representative, it was reported by the nat'l media as if it were representative. Just as Clyburn planned, AAs nationwide (conservatives, the well-educated, the professionals as well as the poor and uneducated) began to jump on the 0bama train, finally convinced he had a real chance while all of it had been carefully manipulated and racially contrived.

Clyburn has every right to be furious with the 0bamas, but instead he blames the citizens of SC calling them racist when he is the one. His feelings are more about not being rewarded for anything he did which was indeed significant. 0bama should be falling at his feet. Instead Clyburn is still the House Majority Whip, the highest ranking AA congress person and attends WH meetings as before. Nothing more. I think he is already under the bus. It serves him right!

Yeah, I can't imagine why Michelle Obama would be leery of South Carolina, after the GOP state party chair called her a monkey. What is her problem, anyway?

I'm just shocked that Clyburn would reveal that Michelle is AFRAID to visit South Carolina. First of all it demonstrates that Clyburn has no loyalty or respect for the people of his State in that he would even reveal that info, if it is indeed the truth.

And My GOD, Michelle has an army of secret service around her, every minute of every day, not to mention she travels in bullet/bomb proof limos and she's afraid of, WHAT, exactly? She has more guarantee of safety, no matter where she is, than any other woman on the planet. Buck up Michelle, go to South Carolina and press some flesh with the southern commoners.
