If You Control The Message, You Control It All

Thus proclaims the White House Communications Director, Anita Dunn. Of course, many of us actually knew this already, or strongly suspected that was the case. How nice to have someone in Obama’s administration, someone pretty high up,confirm it:

President Obama’s presidential campaign focused on “making” the news media cover certain issues while rarely communicating anything to the press unless it was “controlled,” White House Communications Director Anita Dunn disclosed to the Dominican government at a videotaped conference.

“Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn’t absolutely control,” said Dunn.

“One of the reasons we did so many of the David Plouffe videos was not just for our supporters, but also because it was a way for us to get our message out without having to actually talk to reporters,” said Dunn, referring to Plouffe, who was Obama’s chief campaign manager.

Here she is, telling the tale. You don’t have to wait long to hear her say it:

Doesn’t that make you feel all warm and “tingly” inside? Yeah, me too. I think it’s called high blood pressure:

Continued Dunn: “Whether it was a David Plouffe video or an Obama speech, a huge part of our press strategy was focused on making the media cover what Obama was actually saying as opposed to why the campaign was saying it, what the tactic was. … Making the press cover what we were saying.”

Dunn was speaking at a Jan. 12, 2009, event focusing on Obama’s media tactics and hosted by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, which seeks to promote collaboration between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic. The event was held in Santo Domingo and was attended by the country’s president.

Did you catch that? She said this over NINE months ago. NINE!! And this is just now coming out? Way to make the case, Ms. Dunn – the media is nothing but a bullhorn for whatever you tell them to say. Pathetic.

You may know Ms. Dunn for other reasons that have been in the news of late. The first would be her starting a war with Fox News:

Dunn has been facing some criticism since she led a White House campaign last week against Fox News, slamming the top-rated network as an “arm of the Republican Party” and “opinion journalism masquerading as news.”

From her own lips:

But you know, not everyone will role over for Ms. Dunn paving the way of The One:

Fox hit back this past Friday, releasing a video of Dunn speaking to high school students last June in which she lists her two “favorite political philosophers,” including Communist Chinese leader Mao Tse-tung, whose draconian policies are blamed for the deaths of tens of millions of people.

Oh, yeah – she said it. Not Mother Teresa and, say, Nelson Mandela. Or Martin Luther King, Jr. Or Ghandi. Or the Dalai Lama. Nope. Mao Tse-tung:

Holy smokes. In case you need a little refresher of who Mao is, you can click HERE.

So, that’s the White House Communications Director, Anita Dunn. She seems to fit right into the Obama crowd, doesn’t she? I’m sure she and Bill Ayers probably have a lot to talk about, or maybe she just hangs out with Obama’s old Socialist Party friends (remember that? Oh, yeah – card-carrying member of the New Party.). Hey, it could happen!!

I do know that this admission is mighty disturbing. To have confirmed by the White House Communications Director that they purposely controlled the media, thus the message, is telling. And scary as shit, I might add. As is the press ALLOWING itself to be manipulated in this way. Maybe now we really can stop calling them the “press,” and instead call them the Obama Propaganda Team? Or Orchestrated For America? What’s your take?

We knew what the Obama campaign was about but why did someone that was outside of the Hillary or McCain campaign not put these things out there? If it was fear of retaliation just think of where we are right now.

All us bitter old people knew what was going on but no one would hear us nor consider playing fair and balanced .. I guess that race thing trumped all but that just made us hostage to what we have right now. It would have been so much cleaner to address the lies in the beginning. What a democracy changing problem we have now. this woman is disgusting in her arrogance and stupidity and betrayal.

  • bayareavoter

Wow! How did you find this? And you’re right–it’s just coming out now? And she obviously is proud of what she’s done without any shame.

More evidence of our being completely duped — and 99.9% of the media has been complicit.

It’s like the so-called health care debate–they’ve very cleverly framed it as “you’re for it or against it” without actually having a real debate about what “it” is or could be!

When Bush was in office I yearned for a Karl Rove of our own–why couldn’t the Dems ever do the dirty work of controlling the voters and the message. What’s the old adage? Be careful what you wish for? With Axelrod, Dunn, Gibbs, Emmanuel and the rest we have been royally out-Roved!

  • hokma

Anita Dunn is one of many in the White House. Before Obama filled out his cabinet he already had a cadre of czars – all with radical left background and creds.

This is a President who is driven to upend out society and create a socialist state as quickly as possible and using smoke-and-mirrors to deceive Americans into a false impression until it is done.

We see with every left wing government run state that the media is vital in controlling the population. The media has surrendered to Obama and is acting as a propaganda tool even though Axelrod calls it “news.”

I think we are at the lowest point in our news media history where over 90% have dropped any pretense of professional journalism in order to support their hero. It has taken an Aussie in Rupert Murdoch to keep a credble news source open to counter this avalanche of false propaganda by an Administration.

I take some comfort in the fact that this information came out. Just like the Acorn video tapes, more and more people are waking up. Soon, some others in the media will be feeling punked. Well, I never wanted a Rove in the Democratic Party. I was appalled that we had one in Axelrod, and every one kept calling a genius–instead of, for instance, “an evil genius.”

Newspapers in the U.S. have gone through a strange history, often being nothing but rags where advertising/news/entertainment combined, and truth and objectivity had no home. But…..there did develop a clearn philosophy, with clear policies, of journalism to serve as the fourth estate in our society. I am appalled that these policies have been shredded so badly.

It has opened the door for things like O’s “fact checking” page, where idiots feel they are getting the “facts.”

The audience should have been walking out.

Great. The Bride of Voldemort – with that flicking tongue – is the communications director.

  • Lana

You’re right, Rosa. We were shouting from the rooftops that this man had such total control of the media that it was dangerous. Remember early on, he wouldn’t let the press on his bus. He wouldn’t take questions at his ‘press conferences.’ He established early on that it was out of bounds to ask about his past. And rather than digging in to find out what Obama was all about, they just followed him around like little a little puppy dog that desperately wanted its master to love it. It’s another slap in the face to brag about it now and to be reminded that this man probably would have been an early drop-out in the race if not for the media. They are why this man is president.

But I don’t believe anyone inside or outside of the campaigns of other candidates could call him out without the proof of a video like this. I believe many tried, but they were put in their place by the media and called whiners. The media not only actively worked to make this man electable, they actively worked to make the other candidates unelectable.

Could that be the reason why the message had to be so controlled?

Anita Dunn is clearly a psycho. And somehow this woman won the media war during the election? What is WRONG with this picture?

But I think her insanity is starting to hurt Obama. Her attacks on Fox News are only going to appeal to the hard-core liberal idiots who are emotionally imbalanced like she is. The rest of us NORMAL people will get tired of this Fox bashing soon enough.

In fact, I used to be one of those Democrats who never watched Fox News. I started watching them during the election because they were the only news network not slobbering over Obama 24/7. This was after watching CNN for years.

Lately, I have not had cable. But I would still go to CNN’s website to read news headlines. Well, once Chairman Anita started bashing Fox, I made a decision to send my web “business” to Fox instead of CNN. I am now taking time to actively stream Fox content, including Glenn Beck.

See, I’m one of those people, where, if some fascist idiots try to take away my right to choose my news sources, I will go out of my way to support the company under attack.

And really…if the Obama administration can turn a GenX liberal like myself into a Fox watching patriot, you can bet I am NOT the only one they are alienating.

As a retiree with satellite, I used to watch news on all the 24-7 channels. During the campaign season, I started dropping them one by one as they became blatently bias, including PBS. In the past, I rarely watched anything on Fox except Greta. Finally I stopped watching all the 24-7 channels. About 6 months ago I started watching some shows on Fox News again. I find it disgusting that the White House has attempted to describe Fox News as an arm of the Republican Party. As a registered Democrat (turning Independent or a Constitutionalist), I want the truth, unvarnished. Fox News is the only 24-7 channel that even comes close to presenting a fair and balanced view of the issues (in my opinion). I can’t stand O’Reilly and rarely watch him; however, the American People will be more informed about what is really going on in our country if they watch Fox News, read NoQuarter, and read a variety of online newspapers from other countries.

Remember how we (the Left) howled about the media being complicit in the scare tactics Bush used to get us into Iraq?

As I watched the attacks on Hillary and the adoration of BO during the campaign–I couldn’t help but remember that this is the same media that made fun of Gore in the debates with BushJr; that made war hero Kerry into a total wus (well, maybe he is…); and led us into the Iraq war without any push back.

So, BO’s mafia just figured out how to use the media to get what they wanted and they were embarrassingly eager to comply.

I just can’t believe this video wasn’t exposed before…. thank you RRR Amy!

  • Peggy Sue

So, I guess the War on Fox is the war that will replace Afghanistan. Forget the enemies overseas; we’ll concentrate on the enemies at home. That’s the ticket!

All energies will be turned to “controlling the message.” You have to give the WH credit, they’ve managed to get many, many news outlets to roll over and play the role of the propaganda machine. In fact, Chris [tingles] Matthews, who is clearly “not” a journalist but has a platform, said quite bluntly that it was “his” job to make sure that this president was successful.

Unfortunately, too many of the “real” journalists have taken the same vow: support the President, even when it makes no sense.

“Control the message and you control it all.”

I’m sure Chairman Mao would agree. And I’m sure Orwell is jumping around in the “world beyond,” screaming: you see, I had it right. I am the man!

Not so shocking, Rev, when you consider this is just one more message they controlled. Someone videotaped it, and lots of people chose to keep it under wraps. Message AND media controlled.

MediaMatters is spinning it like this: In fact, Dunn was discussing the Obama campaign’s strategy for controlling the campaign’s message, not the media; moreover, her comments were made before Obama had taken office and before she became communications director.

Really people. Just because Mao was responsible for the death of millions he had the right message.

Just because Mother Teresa tried to save millions, isn’t it the same thing?

Therefore I will now speechify on the subject:

    We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For as we control the message we control the masses.
They are not privy to our great plan.

The plan which will bring us to the land of great hope and change.

Mika behaved like a complete bot during the primary and was disrespectful to Hillary while she was on the show and to any of her surrogates.

Mika has a horrid habit of interjecting little sounds under them while they were speaking — “uh huh, yaah, right, hmmmf” and so on — it has the effect of undercutting the speaker and showed a total lack of regard or belief in what they were saying — she never comes out to refute anything, you understand. It was just a cheap way for her to get her two cents in.

The really sad thing, is that even wikopedia is glossing over some rather glaring facts from WW2. While Mao made several claims about fighting against the Japanese…There has never been any prove of his “major campaigns” against the Japanese. He is responsible for a lot more than 40-50 million deaths of his rivals later on. China is known to have suffered at least 20 millions deaths in WW2 and 4/5ths of those were civilians. Even with the US trying to supply China’s legal government at the time with weapons to resist the Japanese, it is rather hard to fight a war against an immoral invader while fighting a revolution against a maniacal despot like Mao! Only Russia suffered more deaths, and many of them were a direct result of the other commie moron Stalin sending men into battle without weapons! “When a comrade falls, retrieve his weapon and use it to fight” Was the order of the day!

  • Peggy Sue

I tend to like the orginal, candymarl:

    This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
    But we in it shall be remember’d;
    We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.

There are some words that should never be taken out of context. Shakespeare’s words are one of many. Grand, glorious words. Words to remind us who we are.

This just in from AARP CA.

Why does this make me feel paranoid? Maybe because MEshill and 0zer0 tout mandatory voluteerism? Trying the warm and fuzzy approach first?

    Unprecedented Television Event Encourages
    Nation to Give Back

The doctors on Grey’s Anatomy want you to do it. So do the special agents on NCIS, the neurotic women on Desperate Housewives, even the folks struggling with their weight on The Biggest Loser. They all want you to volunteer in your community. And to make sure you get the message, those shows and many others will launch an unprecedented week-long television promotion beginning TODAY.

Tune in October 19-25th when more than 100 of your favorite television programs on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and other broadcast networks will spotlight service and the idea of giving back. Celebrity public service announcements will run during shows such as ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, featuring stars such as mother-and-daughter actresses Blythe Danner and Gwyneth Paltrow, singer Faith Hill, and actors Morgan Freeman and Matthew McConaughey.

There also will be end-of-episode messages about volunteerism from casts and community service themes woven into the plots of many popular shows. On ABC, the doctors organize a blood drive on Grey’s Anatomy, and the women of Wisteria Lane organize a neighborhood watch program on Desperate Housewives. Two characters on CBS’s Numb3rs decide to participate in a Big Brothers Big Sisters-type program.

Viewers will be encouraged to find volunteer opportunities in their communities at the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s iParticipate website as well as the website for Create the Good, AARP’s community service program that is cross-promoting with iParticipate. AARP has more than 9 million volunteers, donors and activists, age 50 and older, involved in community service. The joint promotion is a way for the two organizations to pursue a common goal—showing Americans how easy it is to make a difference.

Well, why the hell not? No one’s working anyway. But why is it that I feel that iParticipate or Create the Good might have a database link straight to the WH? And while we’re at it, F**k AARP, the way they’ve F**ked us.

Me too. I wonder how many of us there are out there. I couldn’t stand FOX until spring 2008, when they really did start to be the most fair and balanced news source out there. Now it seems that FOX is the only news station not invested in a) yelling ideological platitudes, b) shamelessly lying, and c) pandering to The One. And only Obama could make me listen to Rush Limbaugh, who is starting to sound (can’t believe I’m writing this) like the voice of reason.

Gosh – Anita Dunn, another “brilliant Obama pick”! Wasn’t there a Jim Carey movie a number of years ago called “Dumb and Dumber”. Was there ever a sequel to this movie? If not, I think the antics of Obama and his cohorts, democratic leaders like Pelosi, Reid, etc. as well as most of the MSM could qualify for a “Dumb and Dumber – Part II”.

This would be hysterically funny, if was just another “reality show” on television instead of “real” real life. It is truly scary!

In 1981 I went to see Evita on Broadway. There’s a line in a song by Che which goes on about how Argentine govt. under Peronism controlled the media.

“And …the only newspaper that dared to print the truth has been silenced.”

Hmmm, I guess we know how that turned out. Coming Thursday: a decision about the internet. Will we NQ posters one day be among “The Disappeared”?

  • TeakWoodKite

Makes me wonder what pillow talk went on there that got her that job.

I saw one of those ads just a while ago..and the ending was interesting. Volunteerism has at least one corporate sponsor..Disney. If you volunteer at a participating place, you get a free ticket to one of their parks. It gave a bit of a creepy twist to the whole idea of volunteering.. like some volunteering is better because it gets you Disney tickets, whereas other volunteering is not because it just helps people.

Someone on a blog somewhere the other day wrote “It’s when you’re over the target that you get the most flak”. Fox is over the target, and finally we are seeing some of the promised “transparency” from the White House, albeit the pathetic attempts of the administration to stifle all negative commentary and dissent. Go Fox!

  • Scout

Joe liked Hillary so much that the other hosts teased him that she was his girlfriend, and he practically blush! She totally won him over, like she did with so many people.

  • proud mobster

I agree that the media has been complicit in deceiving us. I do believe however, that they never thought of themselves as being coerced into their idolatry. Now I read that the media is being forced by the White House to ignore any news stories which emanate from Fox News. Wonder how the media will feel about those in the White House bragging about their control over the media.

I have to think that this attack on fox just opened the doors that were shut during the primary and general, now the gag is off and hopefully more truths will come out .The administration is making huge blunders and once they directly attacked and tried to make fox its target on the other news it gave them full reason, to expose, to bring out everything. it has been really out there, just like the emperor with no clothes,no one would speak of it BUT now it will be revealed .

the only thing is, I am behind fox on this, but I do realize this is only for now for them ,they will back to bashing Clintons and everyone else when this is over. Fox is just lucky that the MSM and this admins. gave them the tools to rebuild the rep.party.I am looking for a strong third party next time.

I notice her Haldol or Thioridazine (viliform movement, dyskinesia) tongue, so indeed Anita may very well BE schizophrenic.

  • lorac

I’d like to know when BO or MO ever did any volunteer work.

Yes, he had a major crush on our Hillary!!

Ani, you are SO right abt Mika! And she was a total ‘bot. Still is from the very little I’ve seen in videos posted here…

Please, please, tell me you don’t mind if I borrow that! Hilarious!
And, when Helen Thomas tells the WH to back off, that is very telling.

  • Ferd Berfle

I agree. They are judgmental to the point of being anal-retentive control freaks. They can’t stand that anyone has an opposing opinion to theirs. You not only must like what they say but you must also think like them. Automatons all of them, i.e., bots. That’s why they spend so much time squatting here making horse’s arses of themselves, parading around their profound ignorance as though it is a badge of honor. LMAO.

beside her father, her Borther also worked for the Obama campaign, but they never mentioned it when she was praising Obama and criticizing and mumbling under her breath about Hillary

  • avwrobel

TJ paid reporters to print lies about John Adams during his campaign against him for POTUS, so he knows the character of the newspapers of his time well. Obambi’s ‘message controllers’ didn’t have any heavy lifting to do since the MSM was doing it for him. All THE ONE had to do was stand there, smile, and read the teleprompter. Anita Dunn is just another boot-licking hack. Better we keep giving more space for Hillary Clinton coverage. She gave an incredible speech I saw on c-span yesterday re: Iraq.

    >>> more fluff than substance.

A little more substance than, say, Katie Couric. About the same as GW Bush. Too harsh in appearance and combatice too be very fluffy. Probably more credible if she eschewed the hair coloring.

But, then, Jake, my tomcat, has more Substance than all those put together.
