But I don't think this bill's passage is the end of the world. There are some stronger protections in this bill than previously existed. Is it perfect? Far from it. Is it a capitulation as many have suggested? No. It's curious that such a furor has been circulated over this after the fact. How many of us were writing/calling/visiting our representatives as this bill was under consideration? I don't know (and whether or not you did you still have the right to state your piece, no?) Does this show that Sen. Obama is a politician? Well, yes, isn't that what he's currently doing for a living? We're talking about politics. Just like other words, 'politics' has gathered fungus over the years. 'Lobbyist' and 'lawyer' are two other examples that we choose to demean. So it goes. I'm certainly not going to argue for us to treat terms fairly because they might not deserve condemnation from us. But they're only words. Will Sen. Obama be a better president than G.W.Bush?
