Backtracking with Barack — Iran

Here is Barack Obama on Iran on May 18, 2008:

Here is Barack Obama on July 9, 2008:

“Iran is a great threat. We have to make sure we are working with our allies to apply tightened pressure on Iran,” the Illinois senator said.

Which one is it? A threat? Not a threat? Make up your mind.

You don’t just sound foolish, you don’t just look foolish, you are foolish. You don’t just sound weak, you don’t just look weak, you are weak. And foolishness and weakness are not qualities for a Commander in Chief. Consistency in foreign affairs is not just a nicety, it is a requirement for keeping the peace. Which of these messages are the Iranians going to believe when you have told them two very different things?

More from the UK Guardian.

From my blog, By The Fault.

They don’t call him OBOMBA for nothin.

Does being able to dodge bullets on the tarmac qualify one to be president?

      Or having 233 pant suits?

Or being the wife of a tarnished ex-president?

      Get over it people.

      • hank48188

I think Obama got his slogan correct, “Change you Can believe In”, it seems every position he used to have has changed, DEATH PENALTY for Child Molesters, now for the war, for NAFTA and against Public financing and even thinks he’s a Doctor and can made medical decisions for a woman and her Doctor. Bill Clinton was the ONLY SUCCESSFUL DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT in the last 40 years and the economy was the best I had ever seen in my 59 years.

        • Jack

          “Change you Can believe In”

Obama is correct when he says he isn’t flip-flopping. He isn’t. We can believe in the change because he did–change–just as his slogan always declared.

      • fif

Yea dimwit, that’s all Hillary has every done: wear pantsuits. If you want to have a real debate, read something first and then come back prepared. Your simple-minded ignorance makes our case for us. It’s easy to see why you fell for Obama’s emptiness. All image and no depth.

And thanks for the “get over it.” We love that–it helps a lot with PUMA fundraising and fuels our passion.

p.s. Bill & Hillary have done more in their lives for average people than you will every even think of in that dim little brain of yours.

  • Babe

What a Joke! Ugh, which way is the wind blowing? Wake up lemmings you have been duped.

    • JoseyJ

Obama’s numerous flip flops go straight to his credibility.
And worse – when he flip flops, he declares it’s not a flip flop, but rather the electorate hasn’t been listening.
Well, activists have been listening and know a flip flop when we see one!
Obama’s condescending remarks insult our intelligence. We’ve already had 8 years of Bush’s up is down, black is white, war is peace, etc.
And now Obama offers us another 4 years of craziness.
      No thanks!

          • Rob in Chicago

My recollection was that former Soviet boss, Nikita Kruschev said something to the effect of “we will bury you” at at UN or some other such gathering, and U.S. propagandists used that to stoke fear of a military action by the Russians. It was later revealed that Kruschev’s statement was, perhaps, taken a bit out of context, and that he was referring to the economic system of capitalism being buried or overcome by the Soviet Socialist economic system.

        • ginaswo still says no Uhhbama

          • tampagurl

Yeah, well he exaggerated to make an impact in his story and his bots and the MSM didn’t say a word but when Hillary did the same thing with her Bosnia story they chewed her up and spit her out!

            • believe

Hillary didn’t exaggerate. Exaggerating would have been saying that she got far more flowers from the little girl than she did. She told a story that had, well, no truth to it except that she landed in a plane.

                  Tampa,
What folks don’t realize is that we had a first lady willing enough to go to a combat zone where there reports of constant sniper fire.
I’m sure the sharp shooters kept them away but she probably thought that it could start at any time.

Obama on the other hand has not visited Iraq for 900 days and has stated that he would pull out troops within 16 months regardless of conditions on the ground.

Now that the war is won what is obama going to do now?
I know that he wished defeat for America.
Why else would he not stand and clap the president when he told us of the surges success.
Obama prayed for defeat and retreat so that he could be president.
                  That’s despicable behavior Obama!!!

                  • tampagurl

The thought of such a wimp as our president makes me ill, but I’m sure would make our adversaries very happy.

Obama is the favorite choice among dictators and enemies of the United States.
I’m sure dictators of the world view the democrat party and Obama as one of their own.
Maybe some of these groups gave him pointers on how to establish a totalitarian socialist country.

I think Obama was probably getting a pedicure with some of his Chicago political strategist that day…

This not only shows that the trip had its hazards but it also shows how — in one very vivid example — for over 16 years, she has been around the world, on front lines and in the most remote and bleak parts of the globe, as has been well-documented throughout this blog, and in her Wikipedia biography (which is an extraordinary reading experience, and cemented my OWN support for her candidacy). [The UPDATE is at the end of the story.]

****She also spoke about the fact that she had landed via BLACKHAWK HELICOPTER . AND some people have taken exception to that… especially Sinbad . well, she did arrive , initially, in Bosnia via C-17 transport plane (with the entertainers) and then flew to another part of the country via this helicoptor.. and Sinbad had not been invited along for this part of the trip… SOOOO, there were TWO landings in two different vehicles.. where is the tape from the B/H landing? THIS is the one I would like to see….

                FACTHUB, 3/25/08:

She accurately describes the trip in her book, Living History:

‘Due to reports of snipers in the hills around the airstrip, we were forced to cut short an event on the tarmac…’ “Security conditions were constantly changing in the former Yugoslavia, and they had recently deteriorated again. Due to reports of snipers in the hills around the airstrip, we were forced to cut short an event on the tarmac with local children, though we did have time to meet them and their teachers and to learn how hard they had worked during the war to continue classes in any safe spot they could find. … We were then off to the fortified American base at Tuzla, where over two thousand American, Russian, Canadian, British, and Polish soldiers were encamped in a large tent city.” [Living History, p. 343]

Contemporaneous news accounts confirm that Hillary’s trip to Bosnia was a dangerous situation:

Hillary’s trip to Bosnia marked the first time since Eleanor Roosevelt that a first lady traveled to a potential combat zone. Accompanied by singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow and comedian Sinbad, Mrs. Clinton traveled to this northwestern Bosnian town on a morale-boosting tour for the 18,500 U.S. troops participating in the NATO-led peacemaking operation. She heard a poem of peace from a Bosnian girl and praised U.S. troops for ’showing what American leadership is.’…This trip to Bosnia marks the first time since Roosevelt that a first lady has voyaged to a potential combat zone. During World War II, Roosevelt toured the devastated streets of London and the southwestern Pacific, bringing cheer to U.S. troops. [Washington Post, 3/26/96]

Hillary was ‘protected by sharpshooters’ in a ‘military zone’ when she visited troops in Bosnia. “Protected by sharpshooters, Hillary Rodham Clinton swooped into a military zone by Black Hawk helicopter Monday to deliver a personal ‘thank you, thank you, thank you’ to U.S. troops. ‘They’re making a difference,’ the first lady said of the 18,500 Americans working as peacekeepers in Bosnia. Mrs. Clinton became the first presidential spouse since Eleanor Roosevelt to make such an extensive trip into what can be considered a hostile area, though others have visited hot spots…” [Charleston Gazette, 3/26/96]

^^^THIS was written at the time. it is not a recount 12 years later of what happened but written the same date!!

                ::::::::::::::::::::::::

                From her Wikipedia biography:

Hillary Clinton traveled to 79 countries during this time,[151] breaking the mark for most-travelled First Lady held by Pat Nixon.[152] In a September 1995 speech before the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, Clinton argued very forcefully against practices that abused women around the world and in the People’s Republic of China itself,[153] declaring “that it is no longer acceptable to discuss women’s rights as separate from human rights”[153] and resisting Chinese pressure to soften her remarks.[151] She was one of the most prominent international figures at the time to speak out against the treatment of Afghan women by the Islamist fundamentalist Taliban that had seized control of Afghanistan.[154][155] She helped create Vital Voices, an international initiative sponsored by the United States to promote the participation of women in the political processes of their countries.[156]

^^^ Hmmm.. what is Obama’s record as far as this f\sort of thing is concerned? Did he go to Bosnia? Nope! And, he hasn’t been to Afghanistan EITHER – even though he’s the chair of that committee. He didn’t even know what language/s they speak. How sad sack is that?

Actually went to a LOT of sources, including the Colonel (Hunt) who was there to provide (or help provide) her security. HE was the one who initially sparked my interest by stating that when she initially went into the country (Bosnia), she came in by C-17 and he was irritated that she had said that it was a blackhawk copter.. he DID also state that she took the helicopter to take her to a different part of the country.. And, there seem to be no tapes of that part of the trip. I think I would like to see it!
Also, a part of the post here is from Hillary’s autobiography.. and some of what is here is fom a newspaper (Charleston Gazette) … it was a story from the March 96 edition. I, personally, would like to find a tape of her landing wherever else in Bosnia it was IN THE HELICOPTER as I think she may have mispoke about when what happened (though in the same few days.. in 1996) This is what I am saying!

I definitely believe that a LOT of what is in wiki is questionable as anyone CAN write pretty-much anything. I looked up many sources and this page (or part of page) simply brought all of it together more consisely than any other site or page. I verified everything that I copied from wiki prior to posting!

I also want to point out that she went on to 2 further outposts. Neither is mentioned anywhere as to how she got there and as to what happened.

Hillary still can’t get a fair shake. The media men remind me of little boys. It is fun to play with each other in their secret hiding place – with the “girls keepout” sign on the door!

                • imustprotest

Thank you thank you thank you!! This is exactly what I thought had happened, that in recounting the story on TV she had mixed up the two landings. I hoped the press would look into it more. I wanted Hillary to defend it. Thank you!

              • vinnie

                can you say S-E-L-M-A??

              • ownaa

She was in Bosnia, the minister warned them before they arrived that particular airport they are comming through had many incidents of snippers activities around it. In relaying the story some manipulation of the facts happened. But to say your uncle liberated a camp where no american or kenyan was there that was a lie, and the fact there was no uncle at all that hullicinations. No comparison there

              • Helen S

Believe ,”she told a story that had no truth”..A lot like the crap you post here…huh?

        • believe

I think he’s referring to this:

“Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev famously used an expression generally translated into English as “We will bury you!”

          • tampagurl

“Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev famously used an expression generally translated into English as “We will bury you!”

the original Russian phrase may as easily mean “we will outlast you” as the more belligerent sense suggested by the English translation.

    • Ted

The closest specific quote I know of was when Khrushchev said “We will bury you.” There is no denying that they (and we) had the ability to wipe each other off the planet, and strategic weapons delivery systems were on standby for decades. At any point at the height of the Cold War, the destruction of the earth was potentially only three hours away.

And so, for those who are willing to listen, when Obama says Iran is not the same level of threat as the USSR was, he he clearly, obviously, undeniably correct. But what is more important, and of course ignored by most here, is the context of his words. He was not saying that to downplay the threat Iran poses, he was making the point that if we could use diplomacy to diffuse an even bigger threat, perhaps we can use it to diffuse a smaller threat. He is saying we were able to talk to an opponent of equal strength from a position of strength, so we certainly should be able to talk to a much weaker opponent from a position of strength.

This is an example of Obama talking to people as adults. When you talk to people as adults, you give them a certain amount of respect and credit. You assume they will understand the context of your words. The whole reason Obama was talking about Iran is precisely because they are a threat. He was describing how he will deal with threats. A certain level of maturity is required when an adult conversation occurs.

      • tampagurl

You cannot talk to people that do not value life.

        • Seattle Moss

          Very true, Tampa.
Iran is building a shrine to Armagheden. Unlike mutual assured destruction against the soviets the Iranians welcome martyrdom and have no concept of deterance.

I’m really glad that the US has three carrier groups in the Indian Ocean and has complete control of the air over the middle east. By setting up Iraq as a stable ally we insure our presence in a region that could lead to world resource wars.

          • TommyC

Sure. We have all of our firepower in the MidEast, so that even Mexico could invade us and take over. Or, China ooops, sorry…China is already here (and so is Mexico).

What the hell are Americans so afraid of?

Last time I checked, we’re the only ones who’ve used nuclear weapons.

            • Seattle Moss

              Tommy

China has a military a tenth the size of ours.
              What’s your point?
We ended the 2nd world war by dropping nukes on Japan and showing Russia and others that we are willing to protect America at any cost.

              Dude,
The conflict is in the middle east.
Are you that dumb? get a map and see how the sphere of influences play out.
The world treasure is going to the middle east.It is up to the United States to prevent a complete collapse of western civilization by keeping the middle east stable through strength.

            • tampagurl

What the hell are Americans so afraid of?

Crazy people that hate us and stupid Americans that blame us for everything! Is that you Michelle?

              • Seattle Moss

                Where have you been Tommy?
We lost 3000 people on 911 and a trillion dollars.
If we get attacked again in the same fashion I can guaranty that you will be the first to be crying scared out of your wits wanting someone to keep you safe.
Obama has said that in a time of great crisis he is with the Muslims and 57 states of Islam.
You have never experienced a great depression. Imagine that you can’t get fuel or food to eat.
All of this could be reality if we have a major attack.
                Better start wizen up dude!

      • JoseyJ

Obama doesn’t treat voters as adults because when he flip flops he declares it wasn’t a flip flip and voters haven’t been listening!
        iow – we’re stupid.

        That leaves you out.

When the October Surprise and Iran/Contra scandals unfolded what was revealed?

Deals that were off the world radar, despite the rhetoric that was for public consumption.

Money, arms, military parts, were exchanged, even during the hostage crisis and the Iran-Iraq war. While Iraq was our ally.

So now Obama claims that we don’t talk to Iran, when history both recent and past proves that isn’t true.

Recently, Halliburton sold them the centrifuges to enrich the uranium. Don’t you think that is a weird stance to complain about the nuke probelm that Cheney started?

And last year the GAO reported that jet parts were sold and Iran is only country with those jets.

Both examples point to discussions between Iran and America….just because Obama doesn’t think they are talking doesn’t make it true.

History and the news proves him wrong….again.

However, if war does break out, I would be shocked, but not surprised since America has also armed a country and then disarmed them by force….Iraq.

But to claim we aren’t talking to them is a lie when we have been selling them military equipment since the 80s. While giving them the vital tools needed to attempt this nuke program.

    • TommyC

Years ago Krueshev’s famous quote was “we will bury you”. Same thing.

      • tampagurl

Several online sources incorrectly claim that he made this statement at the United Nations General Assembly) on October 12, 1960, when he famously pounded the table with his shoe (or with an extra shoe he had brought with him explicitly for that purpose).

Speaking some years later in Yugoslavia, Khrushchev himself remarked, “I once said, ‘We will bury you,’ and I got into trouble with it. Of course we will not bury you with a shovel. Your own working class will bury you.”

        * * *

Not exactly the same thing as wiping us off the planet.

    • hank48188

Nikita Kruschev once pounded his shoe on the table at the U.N. and said he will bury us, maybe 1960. I think that was the extent of it.

The only reason he voted “YAY” on the FISA bill is cuz of his three names. He couldn’t look weak on _errorism. And, cuz McCain didn’t vote. Never mind that he’s voted “present” 130+ times.
So, if it’s not cuz of the above reasons and we all know how crapola that bill is – then why vote this time, this bill?

Why do you support Obama? What has Obama ever done besides run for office 6 times in 12 years? I know he helped his slumlord friends Rezko and Davis get Gov’t backed loans to improve their slums. The slums didn’t improve, they got worse, boarded up and bankrupt, too bad the taxpayers had to pay off the bad loans. These are projects in Obama’s State Senate district, he was looking out for the peoples.

Whether a country is a threat or not varies over time.

So please, tell us what happened over the course of a month that caused Oblather’s opinion to “vary.”

BTW, have you noticed that there’s another candidate in this race named John McCain and he’s flip flopped like crazy?

Notice that this is really the only “argument” you ever give in your posts? “McCain is worse.” Very inspiring.

Well, maybe you haven’t. But the American people have and they think they both flip flop and that doesn’t especially bother them.

My argument is that ELECTIONS ARE ABOUT CHOICES. And that’s why you have to talk about both candidate and their comparative positions, advantages, and disadvantages. Otherwise, you’re intellectually dishonest.

        • John

Choosing is what we are doing.

You just can’t accept that we don’t agree with YOUR choice.

You are the one with the problem.

That and your almost frantic obsession with deflecting every criticism of Obama with what amounts to “hey, McCain is at least as bad!” You can’t deal with Obama being exposed as something much, much less than you thought he was- so you have to lash out at us, and McCain.

Again- YOU are the one with the problem(s.)

        • John

And I notice that (no surprise) you make ZERO attempt to actually ANSWER my post.

          Because, as usual, you can’t.

“He’s better than McCain.” It’s all you’ve got.

          We don’t agree.

So you accuse us of being pathetic and “intellectually dishonest.” Because it’s easier than actually defending your candidate in a (dare I say it?) “intellectually honest” way.

Call it a day, please. You are just making yourself look stupid and increasingly desperate.

What would be the advantage for America to have someone weaker than Jimmy Carter that doesn’t seem to know much about anything important, he’s up on all the rappers but I don’t think that is valued knowledge to most folks. Obama is not truthful at all, he said William Ayers, the WEATHERMAN TERRORIST, was just some guy from my neighborhood, not true. They worked on the ANNENBERG CHALLANGE GRANT,giving out $100 million to Radicals, and the Woods Foundation together for many years. He lied when Wolf blitzer asked him who Slumlord Tony Rezko was, Onbama said “He is a guy I did 5 hours of legal work on a Church deal for my firm”. Obama could have said, Rezko is my biggest fundraiser and supporter, raised over $250,000 for me, if he was honest.

Here’s my take back in May on Obama and foreign affairs…

“Today’s Foreign News that Obama Probably Doesn’t Know a Thing About…”

    http://preview.tinyurl.com/5ujojh

Who can forget that interview way back in 2000 when George W. Bush was asked who was heading Pakistan? Bush dismissively answered that it was some general and that it didn’t matter if he couldn’t recall the name, because he would be surrounded by advisers who knew all this stuff.

Were you impressed then? I sure wasn’t and I’m not impressed with Obama’s “expertise” on foreign policy either. His policies and some speeches may in large part come chapter and verse straight from the party platform and he can buddy all he wants with Jimmy Carter…but that sort of “foreign policy by association” doesn’t cut it with me, especially after seeing Bush and Cheney in action. Spending a few years in Indonesia as a kid, having a dubious relationship with Odinga in Africa, and never having the curiosity to explore Europe doesn’t count either.

So, when I ask if Obama knows the name of the current Japanese prime minister it’s because I want to see his ATTITUDE when he answers. Is he going to act like Bush?

I wake up to the BBC World Service news every morning via shortwave radio and in about 5 minutes I learn more than I could ever learn from the American media. Today was a BIG NEWS DAY on at least 3 fronts–Russia, Lebanon, and, yes, Japan. Having followed a lot of the related news while churning out the World Media Watch for Buzzflash for quite a few years, the stories I heard really woke me up, fast! Because the spectre of Obama (or McCain) reacting to some of the situations reported gave me a kick in the gut.

    Obama doesn’t understand Islamic Jihad!

These are the gravest days of our lives. Those on the left have forgotten 911 and believe that America is the problem and thus needs to be defeated.

McCain’s victory in Iraq by standing firm against all opposition allows the United States to confront the growing threat of Iran.

I’m glad the Iraq war is finally turning and will lead to a democratic, pro western and uniquely allied nation of the United States.

We are now positioned to maintein the western worlds vital resources and prevent outside players such as Russia, china and Iran from gaining control of the area and destroying Western Civilization

    • TommyC

Some would say it is us destroying western civilization. We’re the ones who watch “American Idol” and drive Hummers.

    • Seattle Moss

      Believe,
You need a thinking mind to understand the projection of American foreign policy in the world.
The two goals of which are to protect Western Civilizations vital resources and to protect the world against acts of terrorism.
Whatever you think of Bush we have not been attacked again since 911
Whatever you think of Bush in regard to Iraq we are uniquely situated with two allies Israel and Iraq to protect the Gulf states and to confront Iranian fundamentalism.
Whatever you think of Bush, Gadafi has thrown in the towel and North Korea has started destroying their nukes.

I remember back in the Carter days how weak America looked in the eyes of the world. The day Reagan got in office Iran released the hostages.
America has shown the world and especially the terrorists that we have Balls enough to take the fight to them.
As people tell me around the world..
They are happy that America is doing the Hard Hitting so that they can remain free and keep their way of life.

      • Austin

Bush has caused America, Americans, its foreign policy and all its cultural symbols to be despised around the world.

In the last few years, voters in Japan, S. Korea, Germany, France and Italy have all elected heads of states more conservative and more aligned to US global interest. The sole exception has been Australia, however, the Labour prime minister has repeatedly stated Australia’s interest lie with the US and remains a staunch ally. Local elections in the UK have all titled conservative, especially in London with a new conservative mayor and the Tories are expected to win in the next national elections ending Labour’s rule.

So much for political bent. How about those cultural symbols. Russia has now surpassed Germany as Europe’s largest market for the sale of new automobiles. Over 75% of new vehicles sold in Russia are imports form somewhere else. The top imported nameplates are Chevrolet at #1 and Ford at #3 behind Hyundai. In Europe as a whole, Chevrolet is one of the fastest growing nameplates being positioned as a mass market brand as GM’s Opel moves upscale. In China, GM has surpassed Volkswagen as the number one seller of vehicles and the Buick brand is the number one selling nameplate in China.

This anti-Americanism is rampant across the globe.

        • Seattle Moss

I used to think like you. What people think shouldn’t guide our foreign policy.
I have been finding that many people especially in business welcome what we are doing to protect the world from terrorism and the vital resources to keep their businesses running.
What we are doing is not popular. if the middle east is taken over by fundamentalists and terrorists the world will hate America even more.
That fact that the UAE is now canceling the Iraq debt is a very good sign that the rest of the world will get involved in securing the most important part of the world.
          I’m bullish on America!
          I’m bullish on Iraq!
The United States with a military bigger than all other countries combined along with it’s allies will keep the world safe and America as the Leader of free democracies

          • Austin

I was being a bit facetious in my opening.

Kuwait announced today that it too will be opening an embassy in Baghdad, the very same Kuwait that was invaded by Saddam. The Sunni governments are getting comfortable with the Shiite Maliki because he stood up to Sadr and Iran.

The Foreign Minister of Turkey also met with Maliki to discuss the opening of an embassy and full diplomatic ties. Turkey is a prized relationship for Iraq, getting the ottoanmns on his side with the tensions of the PKK on their mutual border. The Kurds as a whole are very pro-American and the Kurdish regions of Iraq are quite normal.

BTW, violence in Iraq is now down over 90% from a year ago. Petraeus’s next command should be in Detroit.

            • Austin

              ottoanmns? Ottomans

            • Seattle Moss

              Austin,
Thank you very much for that post.

The big change that America needs is for other countries to start footing the bill of our protection.
We need to start putting pressure on them and they need to realize that If America is to continue to do the Hard Hitting then they need to pay for that security.

            • Austin

I need to correct myself one more time, it was Erdogan himself who went to Iraq and Maliki met him at the airport, the ultimate diplomatic sign of respect for a foreign leader.

              http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080710/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

For years, security concerns and political suspicions kept the leaders of Iraq’s neighbors away. But on Thursday, Iraq’s prime minister picked up a VIP — his Turkish counterpart — at the airport, in a diplomatic victory for a country torn by violence just a year ago.

Turkey is seen as key to economic growth. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was the first Turkish leader to visit Iraq in nearly 20 years, and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki warmly greeted him at Baghdad’s airport.

Erdogan’s visit reflected an Iraqi security situation that has improved more rapidly than many expected, partly because of the U.S. troop surge and alliances between Sunni leaders and American forces.

Iraq is becoming increasingly bold in talks with Washington on an agreement that will govern the status of American troops in the country, and it now has time and confidence to reach out to other countries rather than lurch from one political and military crisis to the next.

The Iraq of today is a constitutional Iraq that is searching for cooperation with the regional countries,” al-Maliki said.

He said Iraq and Turkey had agreed their prime ministers would meet at least once a year, and he welcomed Erdogan’s pledge to increase bilateral trade to $25 billion in the next 3-4 years.

In another advance, Kuwait announced it will soon name its first ambassador to Iraq since Saddam Hussein’s troops invaded the country in 1990, a major step in healing the painful past between the two countries.

              • Seattle Moss

                Wow!

The Iraq war being won is the big surprise of the year.
McCain has won this war for America

When everyone was chanting retreat and defeat he put his political life on the line and went to bat for America.
                Now that’s what I call a Leader.

                Country before party/Country before self

                Obama wished for American defeat!

Obama needs a trademark backflip on meeting with adversaries. He seems to think Kennedy’s meeting with Kruschev made the US and Kennedy stronger.

In fact, it made Kennedy and the US look weak. In retrospect, Kennedy himself admitted the blunder.

“Kennedy’s assessment of his own performance was no less severe. Only a few minutes after parting with Khrushchev, Kennedy, a World War II veteran, told James Reston of The New York Times that the summit meeting had been the “roughest thing in my life.” Kennedy went on: “He just beat the hell out of me. I’ve got a terrible problem if he thinks I’m inexperienced and have no guts. Until we remove those ideas we won’t get anywhere with him.”

Paul Nitze, the assistant secretary of defense, said the meeting was “just a disaster.” Khrushchev’s aide, after the first day, said the American president seemed “very inexperienced, even immature.” Khrushchev agreed, noting that the youthful Kennedy was “too intelligent and too weak.” The Soviet leader left Vienna elated — and with a very low opinion of the leader of the free world.

A little more than two months later, Khrushchev gave the go-ahead to begin erecting what would become the Berlin Wall.

Now is not the time to experiment with brain dead diplomacy, nor a Brain Dead President.

Dean is trying to strong arm Hillary historically you have until the convention to retire your debt, he wouldn’t do this if she was a MAN.

    • PKat

      Right.

My mother and father were Jehova’s Witnesses, and together we would go knocking on the doors of people to try to convert them into our lifestyle. Up and down the streets, day after day, morning, noon and night we would travel, proselytizing. Singing, chanting. Dropping leaflets and tracks.

Of course people would run the other way when they saw us. They would pull down the shades, hide, and refuse to answer their doors. You see, they did not appreciate us showing up on their doorsteps to try to convert them to our strange beliefs. They wanted to be left alone. They did not want to stop celebrating holidays, or refuse to salute the flag. They thought we were weird and creepy.

But we knew we had to convert them. It was our mission. We knew better than they what was good for them. Praise him!

And by Jehova I swore I would make everyone a Jehova’s Witness Obot, so they could be as miserable as I was.

I wonder if my upbringing has any influence on my life today.

      ROTFLMAO!

Apparently it does. I despise the religious door knockers- I would never impose my beliefs on anyone for anybody or anything. So wrong.

      Believe,
You might want to go see a psychiatrist instead of irritating us with your mental problems.
I would give you this advise..

Use your own mind instead of copying and pasting.

Get past the polls. If leaders relied on polls to make foreign policy decisions we never would have gone to war to stop the Nazi’s.

Get past Bush. We all have felt the same about him but this is America and conditions change which leads to opportunities.
      Iraq is our problem now!!
We must finish the job for the Iraqi people and for the protection of the west.

It is just amazing to me. If it weren’t for the innocent in our country, I would say we deserve Obama as the ignorant, shallow and naive that promoted this yutz for ignoring the reality. But the lowder us Real World folks raised the obvvious concerns and problems with Barky, the harder those few pressed there hands over there ears and squeezed their eyes shut, exclaiming in praise “H, he’s the one”.

He’s the one alright. But I don’t think they meant the biggest flip floppiing loser the Democrats could have put forward.

  • HARP

Believe is going to start working for nothing now:

Major donors to Barack Obama’s campaign were told Wednesday evening that fundraising efforts were “a little slow” and that they should help retire Hillary Clinton’s campaign debt so that the New York Democrat’s supporters would, in turn, give to Obama.

This while McCain reports that he and the RNC have a combined total of nearly $100 million in the bank, and expect to raise twice that amount before the convention.

    • Seattle Moss

I also saw that hits to Obama’s web site are back down to pre Iowa levels.

      • Andrew

Pre-historic levels. The flip flop machine ran out of gas. To expensive to fill it up.

      according to who? You? LOL!

Don’t forget Nader! He’s already pulling 6% from Obama. That will help defeat him too. We’ve got LOTS of other options, and we are looking forward to exercising every one of them to defeat the empty suit. I can’t wait to VOTE AGAINST HIM!

My argument is that ELECTIONS ARE ABOUT CHOICES. And that’s why you have to talk about both candidate and their comparative positions, advantages, and disadvantages. Otherwise, you’re intellectually dishonest.

Obambi is intellectually dishonest, that has been proven time and time again. It’s always better to go with McCain the devil you know, than Obama hiding behind Donna Brazile’s skirt. In other words poster “believe”, I don’t give a rats azz how many times you want to post your Obambi dribble, I WILL NEVER vote for him. I will actually do everything I can to make sure that lying FLIP FLOP prick goes buh bye, lol.

  • Objective analysis

Does anybody realize that after Jesse wanted to castrate Obama, then Donna Brazile decides to show up and speak on CNN for commentary? What does this woman who helped Gore lost in 2000 really think her place is?

    I have no clue.

Sometimes “a cigar is just a cigar” said Freud.

And, sometimes “a liar is just a liar.” Not a politician who is “moving to the center”; not a “blank slate”; not a candidate of “soaring rhetoric.”

    Just a liar.

    That would be Obama.
