Is Tonight The Night? **OPEN THREAD** Updated

You know, the night the Yankees clinch the American League Championship? They lead the series 3 – 1 over the Angels, and HOPEFULLY, will win again tonight to meet the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series. The Phillies, in case you missed it, closed out the National League Championship over the LA Dodgers 4 -1. Now, many of us wanted to see a matchup with the Dodgers and the Yankees since the Yankees former manger, under whom they won their last World Series, Joe Torre, is now with the Dodgers. But, it wasn’t meant to be, apparently. Congratulations to the Phillies and their fans for a back-to-back return to the World Series!

Now you know I am a huge Yankees fan. I was telling my dear friend Bronwyn’s Harbor about the series, and got her started watching the games. I mentioned that I had a shrine to the Yankees in my living room. She suggested I share it with you, so here it is:

Let me just say, besides the t-shirt, and the baseball, I didn’t buy ANY of those things. My Mets loving cousin was kind enough to send most of them to me. She has an eye for all things Yankees for me. She knows of my deep and abiding love for both the Yankees and their captain, Derek Jeter. The small framed piece is actually a painted feather from Belize that my niece gave me.

I might add, the baseball you can see there was not purchased, either, at least not with money from me. My partner took me to Cleveland for 3 games with the Indians for my 50th birthday (it just happened that they were in Cleveland for the day of my birthday). We were in the section to get autographs during batting practice. That baseball was hit by A-Rod, a screaming foul ball that hit my partner. While it was bad that it hit her, had she not been where she was, it would have hit the very pregnant woman next to her in the abdomen, which would NOT Have been good. Anyway, after batting practice, Johnny Damon came over and signed it for me while my partner was getting medical treatment (no permanent damage, but the bruise lasted for WEEKS. Seriously. It was A-Rod, after all!).

Speaking of Derek Jeter, he has been playing sick the past few days. Not that that has stopped him from hitting a home run, and getting on base in every game, not to mention great defensive plays. He embodies the very best of a Yankees Captain, IMHO.

And in a totally “Entertainment Weekly” kind of way, don’t you think Derek Jeter and the singer, Leona Lewis, would make a beautiful couple? Check them out:

(PRNewsFoto/J Records)

Right?? I know! But, Derek is with the actress, Minka Kelly, and Leona lives with her high school boyfriend. Oh, well, as long as they’re happy…(Don’t worry – this is but a slight foray into Hollywood-style gossip. I’ll be back to political pontificating ASAP.)

Anyhoo – I’m not going to take any chances about the Yankees winning tonight. I’ll don my Yankees away gray t-shirt, put on my Derek Jeter official jersey, grab my Yankees cap, and watch the game with a Diet IBC Root Brewski or Diet Dr. Pepper in hand. Maybe if I play the video below a bunch, my prayers will be answered (major H/T to Nunly at Bad Habit). I warn you, the song may get stuck in your head, but it is SO worth it:

I just hope I won’t be laughing so hard I don’t miss a great play by the Captain, or another home run by A-Rod. And say what you will, but despite some apparent clashing between his new girlfriend, Kate Hudson, and the other Yankees’ wives/girlfriends, he is having the very best post season he has ever had since he started seeing her (h/t to Bronwyn for the link). Maybe he’s just a big Kurt Russell and/or Goldie Hawn fan, and likes having them around, too, since they often accompany Kate. Who knows? As long as he keeps hitting like this, I am happy, happy, happy.

So, you know what I’ll be doing tonight – wishing, hoping, and yes, praying. Hopefully, I’ll be CELEBRATING, too. Then, you know I’ll be at the MLB shop getting my new American League Champions t-shirt to add to the shrine for the upcoming World Series!

Consider this an Open Thread. What’s on YOUR mind today? Maybe that it’s been fifty-four days since Gen. McChrystal;’s recommendations landed on Obama’s desk about Afghanistan? Maybe the economy? Health Care Reform? Whatever it is, have at it!

UPDATE: And No. Swisher, for the second time with runners in scoring position (top of the 9th, bases LOADED), popped up. The series is going back to New York.

I just read about the UN Global Warming Conference coming up in December. Obama plans to attend and what he does there will have far-reaching ramifications for the U.S. (for good or ill). British Lord Monckton is warning that if Obama signs a certain agreement, he will be ruining our economy and this will be the beginning of the end of U.S. sovereignty. Can anyone shed some light on this please??

    http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-25466-DC-Independent-Examiner~y2009m10d19-Obama-to-surrender-US-sovereignty-at-UN-global-warming-conference

    • hokma

      Are they playing the Yankees?

    • Ferd Berfle

he will be ruining our economy and this will be the beginning of the end of U.S. sovereignty.

That One is an utter asshole but our sovereignty is guaranteed by the Constitution, the Supreme Court, and millions upon millions of unsung patriots who really do give a s h i t. Dont’ sweat the diversions and worry, instead, about the real problems. The UN is about as helpless as any bureaucratic entity I’ve ever seen. And if you’re *really* worried about our sovereignty, then you should ask your elected officials to stop pissing off the entire world for no particular reason. It is either one or the other. We don’t worry or we do. Either way, there are actions we can take or not take to mitigate the situation. I do not subscribe to the “we’re helpless” scenario or the we’re going to be subjugated one, either.

    • Country First

Here’s a a video by Lord Monckton and he explains how the governance by the Global Warming group will trump our Constitution if the treaty is ratified.

  • Peggy Sue

How funny, Amy. But I hate to tell you–you have a shrine for the Yankees? My husband and father-in-law and our sons, all have shrines built for the Phillies. Home turf, afterall.

    Should prove interesting! :0)

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

LOL – I was just emailing Brownyn’s Harbor abt how some of our faithful readers are Phillies fans! That will just make it more fun, right?? Just so you know, I love good baseball, and can appreciate good plays whether they made by my team or not. As long as the Umpires don’t impact the outcome of the game with bad calls (and heaven knows there have been PLENTY of those recently), it should be fun! Assuming the Yanks win, that is…

Susan H, thanks for the article. I’m just shaking my head. Is that what he wants to do?? Bankrupt the country? If we go by his actions thus far, I’m afraid we have to conclude yes. What do you think?

      • Nellie

        Rev Amy.

How did you ever live in Mass and become a Yankee’s fan???

Lordy, most of New England are solid RED SOX fans, even though they do not get to the World Series every year.

    • helenk

As a Phillie fan in Dodger land I told my co-workers they would have to learn the Mummers Strut when the Phillies won.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdmEBrlsrSg&feature=related

When the Yankees or the Angels play the Phillies and the Phillies win, I think all their fans should learn the Mummers Strut also.

      • Peggy Sue

Funny, Helen. I went to a wedding in Memphis last year. The groom’s family was from Philly and during the reception the group did the Mummer’s Strut. They even passed out the miniature umbrellas for an authentic touch. It was a blast–the day the Mummers Took Memphis!

        • http://rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com Rabble Rouser Revrend Amy

Holy smokes – would we have to wear the glittery pants, too?? ;-)

          • helenk

if you could see some of the costumes of the Mummers you would wonder how they can march up Broad St and around City Hall, let alone strut.

Anyone who can should see at least one Mummers Parade in their life. The fun goes on all day and after the parade the bands and comic clubs and the fancy clubs go to 2 st to party on.
This New Years tradition has gone on since the 1800s.

GO PHILLIES!My husband, myself, the kids and grandkids are huge Phillies fans. We waited a long time for the world series win last year, and I am hoping for a repeat this year. Good luck to your team RRRA, but my heart belongs to my PHILLLIES!

    • Pennsylvania Caucasian

Peggy – you may be able to appreciate this website devoted to the “fightins’” and their incomparable, twisted fans:
      http://www.thefightins.com/

“The Pride of Mayfair” is really special for all of youse familiar with the Great Northeast…

  • Tammy

Well my Twinkies are out of it, so I don’t care much who wins. And they(the Twins) didn’t deserve to win because they played like amateurs. Like you, Amy, I enjoy great baseball no matter who is playing.

Amy, I had no idea you were so cool.
    A baseball fan like me?
    A SHRINE fer chrissakes?
    I should have known.
    Go Yankees!

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

ROTFL – sorry abt the Twins. They gave it a pretty good shot there at the end, though, didn’t they?

And thank you! Oh, I love me some baseball. Last year was so difficult because not only was Hilary, thus us, screwed to the wall, but the Yankees didn’t finish up well. Insult to injury, you know?

My partner is very tolerant. She’s a Braves fan, after all, and they are my favorite NL team – sorry, Peggy Sue! I do believe, like Hillary, that one can have two different favorite teams, one in each league. Though I must confess, as the shrine would indicate, the Yanks win out for me.

I am certain I have completely alienated Jackarooty, possibly jbjd, and I don’t know who else, since they live in MA!

      • Lana

I respect you too much, RRRA, to remind you of the total collapse of the Yankees to MY team the BoSox in 2004. (wink) I hope that doesn’t HAUNT them tonight. (I do think it’s the Yankees year!)

        • Jackarooty

I can still hear that choking sound…heheheheh

          • http://rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com Rabble Rouser Revrend Amy

Sadly, after Phil Hughes gave up the game last night – oh HIS pitch selection, all his – I can, too. I just hope they’ll be giving the hometown fans a win tomorrow night. And that Girardi picks up the clue phone and benches Swisher (i.e., “Mr. Popout with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth”…).

      • Jackarooty

Ho hum, Amy. We’re still shaking our heads and gnashing our teeth here in MA.

My post season ritual of putting my father’s picture with my official RS cap on top of the frame and then placing it on the cable box just didn’t work.

We’re back to muttering “wait until next year”.

      • Tammy

Well the Yankees are playing their brains out this year, and their pitching is superb, so I think they may take it all!
I’m proud that my Twins won their division. They busted their asses at the end of the season and deserved it.

        I love BASEBALL! Whoo Hooo!

        • Margo Lane

          Cubs in 2010!

  • dormantdem

Hey Rev Amy, glad to see you’re a Yankees fan! We are steadfast Phillies fans (even through their 10000 losses)

    so,

Good Luck tonight, we are actually looking forward to an East Coast Series.

and, btw thanks for what you do here each day, you and all who post here keep me sane!

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Dangit, Lana – I just ATE! Are you trying to make me ill??? Oh, yes – I remember that series all too well. The usual Lights-Out Mariano had one of his few errors, and that was all she wrote…

If it helps, I have been to Fenway Park – I lived in Boston for a while. I saw Tommy Glavine’s younger brother play in a Beanpot Series, and saw the Yanks play the Sox. That was SOOOOMMMMEEEE game, I tell ya!

And nice of you to say abt the Yanks and their year. I’m guessing Peggy Sue and DormantDem hope you’re wrong!! :-)

dormantdem, you are a TRUE fan, sticking by the Phillies through thick and thin! Good for you! Amazing how a team can completely turn it around?? Mariano Rivera said the other day abt it taking 6 years for the Yanks to get back that it really is VERY hard to get into the Playoffs, so for the Phillies to do it back-to-back is mighty impressive. They SHOULD have had some stiff competition from the Dodgers, but they dispatched them with relative ease, it would seem.

I so hope we get to meet your team next week!

    • Lana

Well, we gave you our best idiot (Damon) after that series. He won’t let them forget. And I lived through Buckner, speaking of making a person ill.

Don’t you just LOVE Fenway? And just for you I will put away my usual Yankees animosity and cheer them on tonight…. GO YAn…Hey, I’m trying!

  • Portia Elizabeth

Amy! You go, girl! I have to confess a certain impish delight in seeing the Yankees whup up on the Phillies. (Sorry, Peggey Sue, but I still haven’t forgiven Mike Schmidt for ruining the Astros’ chance at the WS in the early 80′s.)

My husband is a wicked Red Sox fan, so guess who had to wear the pink “B” cap once we moved to New England? He doesn’t have a shrine, but he does have Lots and LOTS of BoSox paraphernalia. (Does a man really need Sox golf balls?)

Amy, have yo ever read The Bronx Zoo by Sparky Lyle? I had a dear friend when I lived in New Haven who was a total Yankees fan. She gave me that book and I thought it was a hoot. Who knew ballplayers could be so funny?

I know there are lots more serious topics, but for tonight it’s nice to smile and think about the boys of summer.

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Well, the Yanks are going to have to start getting their bats going if they are going to win this thing tonight…

Oh, and the umps just gave the Angels an out. Damon (Lana’s favorite Red Sox – teehee) was safe at first, and they called him out. They’ve already given them a bunch of strikes – against the Yanks, and extra ones for their players. Argh.

I have NOT read that book, PE – I’m going to have to get it, though! My cuz also gave me two Yankees books, one by Torre in his tell-all, the other abt the Yankee Dynasty.

With apologies to Peggy Sue and dormantdem, I, too, hope the Yanks GET to the WS, and beat the Phillies…

It is nice to have a distraction from the other craziness. Heck, Obama plays basketball, throws parties, and all kinds of stuff, so why shouldn’t we have a night off, too? :-)

  • Mandelay

Go Yanks! (Feel better Jeet!) Yay!!!!!!!

  • jeleanoro

Oh Yeah…I’m in my Yankee garb too…lol…(love your shrine Amy)the distraction is good right now. I know the anxiety over the state of our ‘Country’ will be back soon enough…but for now Go Yankees!!!…have to go find my Yankee slippers…

  • JMM

RRA, looks like you need some support here from a fellow Yankee fan. I’ll be doing the same thing you’re doing tonight, except my beverage of choice is Gatorade (fruit punch)and I’ll be wearing my official Jeter t-shirt.

    Go Yanks!!!

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Thanks, y’all – I just got off the phone with my partner, to whom I mentioned I had heard from Phillies fans, and a Red Sox fan, but no Yanks fans! Here you are! Yay!!!!

If only the game wasn’t on Fox – Tim and Joe bug the bejesus out of me. One fellow fan at the Yankees message boards said they might as well have their Angels uniforms on in the booth. Sheesh. Lucky Phillies fans with their TBS!! :-)

      • JMM

That’s really funny you should say that RRA. I was just thinking maybe I should listen to the game on the radio instead of watch it on TV ’cause I feel the same way about McCarver and Buck. McCarver HATES the Yankees and really finds it difficult ever to say something nice about them.

But then again, the Yankees’ radio announcers are pretty lame. I don’t know which is worse. I think I will watch the game on TV, but turn down the volume.

      • PYW

Actually, a lot of Phillies fans in the chat room I frequent complained that TBS was pro-Dodgers, lol. Another Phils fan here, BTW. :-)

      • Naomi

oh please – now the announcers are in love with the angels? not only are you a total loser with your political hatred but you love the Yankees??? for that I hope they lose big.

  • dormantdem

My dad was a loyal fan, and now my hubby…so, heck, I too fell in line. Geesh, with the late Great Harry Kalas singing “High Hopes” in the back of the plane and the locker room through his years….to live close to Philly and not be a fan…well just doesn’t seem right.

so, ahem, (now that my team’s IN) I am really looking forward to this Series! But, it’s because it’s such a great relief from the madness going on in our great country.

so, ladies and gents, I will look forward to all the terrific commentary as the Phills beat whomever’s BUTT!
    :)

  • dormantdem

    whoops… Phils!

    typing in the dark

  • texasdemocrat

    Go Yanks!
Funny, I have a ‘shrine’ for the Dallas Cowboys! (Didn’t other people did that too. HA!)

The only baseball Team I ever have pulled for is the New York Yankees. Been a Yankees fan all my life! Watching the Game tonight with my Yankees cap on.

  • Tammy

Oh, and Jeter is hot. Even if you’re gay, you HAVE to agree with me about that, right? LOL
    Kick butt tonight!

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

ROTFLMAO – yes, yes he is. No doubt abt it! And he cares more abt his team than his personal accomplishments. That should be a lesson for a few people (I mean YOU, Obama!)

Jackarooty, I am sorry your ritual didn’t work this year, but thnk of it this way – Spring Training isn’t that far off! :-)

Thanks for reminding me, TX Dem – I forgot my cap! But I have Jeter jersey on and I am READY!!!

JMM – I know, McCarver really does hate them. So does ESPN. They showed Aybar’s bare handed catch as one of the Top Ten plays, and NOTHING from the Yanks, even though they won that game 10 – 1!! Sheesh!

OHMYGOSH – did you see that alleged third strike on Tex???

      These umpires have been HORRIBLE…

      • Jackarooty

        Amy…Jeter is a class act…that’s all I can give you! :-)

        • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

ROTLMAO – thanks, Jackarooty – I know what a big admission that is for a Red Sox fan! He is a class act, though. An excellent representative for the Yanks, I thnk.

And Tammy, you are SO right. I have never seen so many glaringly bad calls. I can’t help but wonder if it’s on purpose so they can get instant replay.

YAY!!! The Yanks have tied it up! YAY!!!!!!!

      • Tammy

The Umps have been horrible for the entire play-off games. I’ve never seen so many mis-calls in my LIFE!

        • socalannie

I agree. It was the worst I’ve ever seen.

    • Sandy

Have you taken a good look at Chase Utley? That is one hot tamale!Oh, to be young again. LOL

      • Pennsylvania Caucasian

The Phillies have more than their share of honeys…

        mmm mmmm mmmmm

        lol

      • Pennsylvania Caucasian

        Sandy -

No Phillies hottie roster would be complete without the late lamented Pat Burrell

(not dead, just playing for some other team)

he gets about a dozen mmmmms

        • Sandy

Yes he is. We still wear our Pat Burrell jerseys, along with Utley,Ibanez, Victorino,Rollins, Howard, and how about that Cliff Lee. Oh heck, we love them all.

          • Sandy

BTW, when we go to a Phillies game, we see a lot of people still wearing their Pat Burrell jerseys.

  • JMM

Yes, the umpiring has been bad in all the series.

I would have DH’d Posada and sat Matsui, he’s done nothing lately.

  • hokma

Yankees WILL win the World Series this year.

The transforming event for this team happened in the beginning when A-Rod held a press conference to confirm his steroid use. A-Rod was always an outsider on the Yankees. But Jeter surprised the press by leading the entire team into the press room in a show of team support of A-Rod. It was the moment that A-Rod finally felt a part of the team and more comfortable.

When he came back from his injury, Alex had another great season and for the first time is a Mr. October.

Jeter did it and this one was not with his bat but with his leadership.

  • Portia Elizabeth

My first post still hasn’t shown up. :(

Is it because I’m an Astros fan?

    • Lana

One of my comments didn’t show up either. I think it’s because I used the id— word, but, Amy, I was using it about the Sox. Let me out, please!

      • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

LOL – yes, that is exactly why the Spam filter kept it out. You can use the f-word until you are blue in the face, but the i word?? Nope!!

        • Lana

I NEVER use the f– word. Well I didn’t until the televised rules committee…

          • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

hahaha. I know just what you mean…5/31/08… a major F-word day.

            • Lana

              Exactly!!

              • Portia Elizabeth

I think I went through every consonant in the alphabet that day. If it’s possible to paint the air blue, I did that day and the next and the day after that…

It’s no wonder my poor parrot has a potty mouth.

                • ~~JustMe~~

LOL @ parrot… yes 5/31/08 was bad language day hubby said I used words he’d never heard before. ;)

  • West Virginia

Well they just kicked off and I hope your team spikes a good one past the goalie through the net and in the line. Did you know that when the Obi one was broke (after my friends kicked his but in his 2000 election) a soft contributor paid him to watch ping pong? Well, it was more than that, but there is a suggestion of an investigation into how much the one was paid for trying to get the ping pong championship games to Chicago.

Oh yes. Your Yankees. I wish you the best for them.

Well. Since I like you so much. If you want them to win I will call the WH and ask them to create an Amy Wishes Czar and make it so.

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

      LOL – too funny!

Right now, AJ Burnett is tring to give away the *&&^(&&^& game.

And yes, JMM – Matsui really has not helped them much at all. Brett Gardner would be better at DH, too…

Portia Elizabeth, I’ll go check the Spam Filter – maybe IT has a bias.

Oh, great – now Laz Dias is giving extra strikes to the Angels, as if AJ can afford that…

    • Lana

      Amy Wishes Czar

Hysterical. Maybe we can all get one!

By the way, CAPS LOCK day is winding down here on the East Coast…the bots must be off somewhere celebrating. You know BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS START YELLING WHEN THEIR LOONY LOGIC DOESN’T WORK HERE.

  • JMM

Looks like AJ Burnett wasn’t able to make it to the game tonight, so pitching in his place is Carol Burnett.

  • Lana

Here’s some reading for a commercial:

It’s come to this: White House tries to bar Fox News from interviewing pay czar

    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/10/22/its-come-to-this-white-house-tries-to-bar-fox-news-from-interviewing-pay-czar/

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I’m working on that very thing for tomorrow, Lana – good catch!

  • tango

Sorry, just can’t get behind the Yankees. Don’t hate them but I’m rooting for the Phillies this time.

Also, did anyone watch Glenn Beck today? His secret phone call that rumour has it means Anita Dunns husband, Robert Bauer, will be named WH Counsel. He’s the attorney that supposedly worked so hard to keep all the information on BO quiet.

    “Robert Bauer — Obama’s Mouthpiece

Robert Bauer, the chief of the political law group at Perkins Coie, the Seattle law firm hired by the White House to defend Obama in court cases challenging his “natural born” citizenship status in the United States and thus, his eligibility under the U.S. Constitution to be president.

Bauer has done his best to prevent the American public from seeing a wide range of Obama’s records that could prove, or disprove, his eligibility to occupy the Oval Office under the Constitution’s requirement that the president be a “natural born” citizen.

Documents concerning Obama that the White House has refused to release to the public include his long-form birth certificate and his passport records, as well as other records that may possibly be relevant, such as records regarding Obama’s possible adoption by his Indonesian stepfather or college application and tuition financial aid records which would reveal whether Obama was ever registered as a foreign student.

Federal Election Commission records show $1,352,378.95 in payments were made by Obama for America to Perkins Coie while the law firm was representing Obama in various court cases which have sought to obtain Obama’s long-form birth certificate to determine if he is a “natural born” citizen under Article Two, Section 1 of the Constitution.”

If Beck hinted at this news before there’s an official announcement, it means that Beck has a contact in the WH or closely connected giving him information. I’m sure the WH is in a super snit right now.

    • Lana

Read about this. Un f—in believable! Is there anything or anyone he can’t shut up? Oh wait, that’s OUR job!

    • Portia Elizabeth

Some alert NQ poster noted that here last night.

If Glenn Beck is smart, he reads No Quarter for the tips from all the sharp readers. ;)

  • West Virginia

OK. I will go back up and read your Beck stuff. But the PA gang. Their town just hired Vick the dog killer. This is open thread and I am going off on this. My daughter just came home with another stray kitten. She said: “Hey mom and dad. If I give it to the shelter they will just do a Vick on him.” Now I have five cats. The four dogs want equal representation so I guess, during the seventh stretch, we will get another dog. Oh, wait. We got one. He is called the one. We are cool here.

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I was pretty shocked the Eagles hired Vick, too. I am not a fan of Rush Limbaugh’s, but I could not BELIEVE they were making this patronizing, condescending proclamation based on nothing but rumor and innuendo in locking out Limbaugh, while allowing Vick back in, as well as a NUMBER of men who have committed violence against women. And they claim they are so high and mighty? Please…

Welcome to your new addition, WVA!

Tango, we’re still friends. It’s a big tent. The important thing is for the best team to win, with a minimum of interference from the Umps (though this game is already full of errors), and lots of good baseball played.

If the Yanks have to go back to their hometown to close this thing out, so be it, but you know I hope they get it done tonight!

      • Lana

Agreed on Limbaugh. And I know you want to close this out tonight, Amy, but think how happy the fans will be to close it out at home!

        • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Yeah, I know – they would love it. And it would be nice for the new stadium and everything. But still…

They don’t seem to be playing with the same fire and intensity. I guess when your pitcher gives up 4 runs in the first inning, it can take the winds out of your sails…

Too funny abt the Rules Committee comment, btw!

          • Eastan McNeal

Is that like the 15th democrat rules committee? Even if you hit a home run they can call it a foul and not count it?

            • Lana

Laughing and sobbing at THAT comment!

      • Pennsylvania Caucasian

Hiring Vick was a travesty – and now it looks like the Iggles don’t even know how to use him on the field.

Not an Eagles fan anyway, blecch.

    • PYW

Please don’t blame the Phillies or the town of Philadelphia for signing Vick. That was the Eagles’ doing alone.

      • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

You’re right…It says more abt the NFL in general than Philly…

      • Sandy

Right you are. BTW, even though I am huge Phillies fan, I do not root for the Eagles. My football team is the Miami Dolphins, even though they have played pretty badly the past couple of years.

  • LoveJazz LoveAmerica
    • Portia Elizabeth

OMG! That is so funny! I almost choked from laughing. Gotta love those cats!

  • Eastan McNeal

I don’t want the Yankees to win. (well, yes I do)

I want the Phillie’s to fail. Oh. Sorry. Rush. I guess I stole that from you.

I don’t wish for bad things to happen to my opponent. I just wish his wish for bad thing happening to us does not happen.

Any more conversation from me would be sports philosophy 101 that all of you know. If my team does not win I want everyone else to loose. I don’t think that way, but I think that is the way America is thinking. I think it is called the Axelrod rule.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor
Go ahead and cheat a friend..

Four runs, many bats to go, many games yet. It is still alive.

    One Tin Soldier Rides Again.

  • JMM

    Tied.

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

And between the bullpen and the inexplicable decision to not bench Swisher tonight – who left runners on 3rd TWICE, including the bases-loaded 9th, they gave it back. Sigh. Joe’s managing skills, especially in tight games, leave me shaking my head…Why bring back AJ after half an hour? Why bring in Marte? Why not use David Robertson, who has pitched GREAT? Why??

I sure hope I’m not saying that Sat. night, too…

      • Tammy

        Sorry, Amy.
Man, that game made me feel like I was watching the Twins in their division fight! I was SWEATING watching it!

        Don’t worry.
They’ll bring it home on Saturday.
I’ll pull out my “87 Homer hankie and swish it a few times for your team!

      • JMM

Rev., Someday they’ll let women manage in the MLB and you and I will get our shot at the leading the Yankees. Until then…

  • Obamastolemycountry

Can you believe this was on MSNBC? What are they trying to win back some veiwers from FOX (never gonna happen, but still I am shocked):

Troops have advanced some 10 kilometres (six miles) in enemy territory from various directions but going up hills and clearing the routes will take time,” he told AFP on condition of anonymity.

“It may take more time than estimated. We are moving very cautiously,” he added. Military commanders said when the offensive was launched Saturday that the operation would last about six to eight weeks before winter set in.

Some of the heaviest clashes were around the village of Khaisura where eight militants were killed, according to an army statement.

“Many houses of this village were converted into bunkers. Heavily fortified bunkers having two metres (six foot) thick concrete walls have been discovered,” it said.

Sounds like Hezbollah has been sharing the designs for southern Lebanon.

  • socalannie

Tonight was not the night, Rev Amy! Angels still alive! Don’t feel bad…your guys will get us in game 6 or 7. I have to admit, the Yanks are playing much better. My hubbie & son (lifelong Dodger fans) are considering rooting for the Yanks in the world series!?!? Its an upside down world we’re living in!

Ack, look what Pravda says comparing Obama to Hitler:

“Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Benito Mussolini were very popular at the time, but they were not presented with the Nobel Prize. Yet, they were nominated for same.
If we look down the history from 1900 to 2009, we will find only one person who was extremely popular and talked about like President Obama. That person is Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party and chancellor of Germany.
Despite both men’s popularity; there are more scary similarities between these two leaders:
Both Obama and Hitler share similar ancestries: Obama German, Hitler Austrian.
Both leaders had been surrounded by many controversies concerning birth certificate, citizenship and religion.
Both had the father figure issues. Obama’s parents separated when he was two years old and they divorced in 1964. His father returned to Kenya and saw him only once more before dying in an automobile accident in 1982. Hitler had a troubled relationship with his tradition-minded authoritarian father, who frequently beat him.
During their teenage years both leaders had problems with alcohol. Obama called the alcohol phase “greatest moral failure”, Hitler called it “most humiliated experience in life”.
Both are unloved by the Jewish, for Hitler is well known why, for Obama, well, his victory in Presidential elections was not received with welcome in Israel.
Time magazine named Obama person of the year in 2008, Hitler in 1938.
Both had bestseller books: Obama had “Dreams of my Father” (memoir) and “the Audacity of Hope” (political convictions), Hitler had “Mein Kampf (My Struggle) in Volumes 1 and 2. It combines elements of autobiography with an exposition of Hitler’s political ideology.
Obama was influenced by Martin Luther King, Hitler by Martin Luther.
Both Obama and Hitler came to power during the recession-depression; Obama in 2009, Hitler in 1933.
Both are personality cult leaders, portrayed as saviors of political and economical depression; Obama as an American savior, Hitler as German. A cult of personality arises when a country’s leader uses mass media to create an idealized and heroic public image, often through unquestioning flattery and praise.
Both are/were very gifted orators, having ability to attract great interest in their speeches. Both have/had hand gestures when giving a speech.
Both leaders had initiated health reforms, environmentalism and animal protection rights, among others.”

Gosh this last part of the Pravda opinion piece is soooo funny:

“In order to pull his country out of recession Barack Obama will have no other option then to use his popularity to fill movie theaters. The US President will make movies! This is the only productive business left in the US. Obama will make few so called blockbuster movies which each will make more than a billion dollars in revenues, beating the legendary Titanic. Money from the movies will be used to support the US economy.

For his brilliant talent on movie screen Obama will get several Oscar’s and other movie awards. In addition, Obama will be presented with his second Nobel Prize, but this time in Economics (for discovering unique mechanism to use movie industry to directly support government budget).

Here are some possible titles for Obama’s movies:

Obama: The Extra-Terrestrial, Obama Wars, Obama-Man, Obama Almighty, The Obama Ultimatum, Obama vs. Aliens, Mr. & Mrs. Obama, Obama Forever, Obama’s 21, among other notable titles.

But what will Obama do when his movie career fades away? What else showmen can do, he will sing! Obama will record the peace album with the possible hit song “Heal the world make it Obamaland” (Heal the world by Michael Jackson), which will receive numerous MTV awards and Grammy’s (Obama won two Grammy’s, one in 2006 and one in 2008). It appears Democrats like Grammy’s; An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore won in 2009, Jimmy Carter in 2007, Bill Clinton in 2005, Hillary Clinton in 1997 and Jesse Jackson in 1989.

Obama singing career will fill the US budget additionally and will get him his third Nobel Prize, again in Peace (for sharing his gracious voice which brought untold happiness to all mankind, especially ones caught by war machinery).

For the end, the question that Obama Presidency should be asked is: Who is the director of this extraordinary performance in which Obama plays leading role?

  • mountainaires

Derek Jeeter is so beautiful, isn’t he?

And, here’s some good news, though it’s not about baseball:

The Senate has passed a LANDMARK HATE CRIMES BILL:

    http://www.southernstudies.org/2009/10/senate-passes-landmark-hate-crimes-bill.html#

    • Lana

I am so happy that this bill finally passed. The only sad note is that 0 will use it to act as if he has done something, just like he did with the Lily Ledbetter Act. Matthew Shepard, for whom this bill was championed, was killed in 1998. What was Obama–10 then? JK but almost. Heard Rush Limbaugh today called 0 a ‘delusional president with a 5 1/2 minute career.’ :)

  • Docelder

Maybe Obama will bring us real change after all.

Democrats are abandoning Obama on global warming

Among all Americans, only 36% blame humans, the lowest figure yet. Last year, 47% blamed humans.

    http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fpcomment/archive/2009/10/23/lawrence-solomon-democrats-are-abandoning-obama-on-global-warming.aspx

  • Docelder

    From today’s headlines

Pilots Likely Fell Asleep at Controls

The pilots, who were radio silent for an hour and 18 minutes

    They were also off course.

    http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/airline-expert-pilots-fell-asleep-controls/story?id=8897670

This isn’t the story though. The larger story could be why were no military jets scrambled when a commercial airliner goes off radio and off course for an hour and 18 minutes.

    • Docelder

In other words… if the pilots were asleep. That is bad, no question about it. If the military air command was also asleep… then that is beyond words.

Love the blog just referenced by a commenter on TOTUS.com: The Lotus (Laptop of the United States). Very funny blog featuring Madame (Sarah). Check out the comparison pictures between Sarah and 0zer0 on Wednesdays post.

    And today:

As Time Magazine called her, Madame “is a walking middle finger to the BosNYWash élite”. I should know; Madame’s fingers walk on me all of the time!

Why would ANY reasonable thinking American taxpayer trust the government with anything? Another example of citizens taking advantage:

“WSJ: The Treasury tax-oversight office said at least 19,000 filers who hadn’t bought homes claimed $139 million in tax credits and were reimbursed, raising new worries about the housing stimulus as lawmakers consider extending the credit. Treasury oversight officials said they have found an additional 74,000 tax-credit claims, valued at $500 million, where evidence of previous homeownership could make their claims invalid.”
