Good News, and Barack News

Will Bowers on Neil Cavuto’s show yesterday || click the 5 bux graphic to join in:

It was bad enough that Barack Obama failed to mention Hillary Clinton’s debt at a Manhattan fundraiser Wednesday night. Only after an aide reminded him, Obama had to climb back on stage, quiet the music down, and ask the crowd to reach under their chairs for an envelope and put “something” in it. Now, via Politico’s Ben Smith, we learn that Sen. Clinton is not even receiving the courtesy of being vetted for the vice presidential slot:

On Fox, former Clinton chief strategist Howard Wolfson indicated that Hillary Clinton is not being formally considered as Obama’s running mate, in that she has not been asked to undergo the formal vetting process.

“Not as far as I know,” said Wolfson, who remains close to Clinton, in response to a question from Sean Hannity.

Wolfson, a new commentator for Fox News, gave the report a positive spin:

He continued to say that the lack of formal vetting wouldn’t necessarily rule out the possibility that Obama would choose her.

“There is more information available about Hillary in the public record than just about any other public figure in America,” he says, citing in particular the tax returns that Obama’s campaign demanded she release.

Smith speculates what the report might mean about Clinton’s standing apart from Obama:

Wolfson’s words, along with Obama’s so far anemic fundraising on Clinton’s behalf, seemed to indicate Clinton’s willingness to stand apart from Obama — as a separate power center within the party if he wins, and as an instant rival for the next nomination if he loses.

But he suggested she’d clearly also like to be Obama’s running mate.

“I think she’d be a huge asset to the ticket. I think she’d be a great addition,” he said.

Hillary would be a far better addition to the TOP of the ticket, particularly given Obama’s increasing alienation from his base and the dramatic drop in visits to his Web site .

Then there is that, for the first time, his donation receipts in May were exceeded by his expenses, and the lack of any report, as of yet, on his total donations received during the month of June — during which month John McCain brought in at least $22,000,000. This trend, like his dropping Web visits, signals a dramatic lessening in enthusiasm for Mr. Obama.

It is up to the Superdelegates to nominate the candidate who ended the primary season on a high note — with growing donations, a series of victories in key swing states, and an increasingly enthusiastic crowd of passionate supporters who have yet to leave her side.

I just called the DNC and a spokesperson for the office of the chairman said Hillary’s name will be on the ballet with no preconditions.

I can’t hardly believe it, to confirm call DNC (202-863-8000).

  • Hank

Hillary you don’t deserve that treatment that the BO campaign gives you. They show no respect for you. Go Independent, we don’t want a 3rd Bush presidency under BO.

    ABSOLUTELY NO to VP!

Stay as far away from that fool as you can Hillary!

Anyone see that the Obama campaign has been BS’ing the number of bundlers, stating it had only 328, when the NYT’s inquired a list of an additional 181 names appeared, making the bundlers list 509!

    http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/10/lax-on-its-list-of-bundlers-the-obama-campaign-names-names/

So much for the astroturfing of small donations!

The lies this campaign keeps being exposed to is rediculous! The FEC needs to go in and do a complete investigation on Obama’s campaign reporting, especially with the small donors who can be played around with in so many ways!

This simply goes to prove Obama and Axelrod will stop at nothing to lie and fake their way to the nomination, these crooks need to be stopped!

  • TFitz

Agreed, Senator Clinton, please steer CLEAR of Obama. NOBAMA.

  • http://deleted AnninCa

Obama’s poor efforts at unity are showing. I’m convinced, personally, without a shred of evidence, that Hillary is just playing him on the VP stuff. She’s not interested. But it doesn’t hurt to jab him a bit for not considering her, given her power base that is very big, broad and real.

It’s made his VP search look downright silly. Edwards….two-time loser? Richardson……the whiner? Dodd, Mr. Mortgage Man? Women whom nobody can yet pronounce their names because they are so unknown? Everyone BUT Hillary. *haha

I’m guessing that Hillary will have some excellent news about how her base came through on the debt retirement. We obviously gave up that Obama’s group would treat her in the traditional sense.

Women Count Too announced yesterday that they have also had a great fundraising month. They now have over 500 thousand to work with and have laid out an aggressive agenda for women’s issues, redirecting their efforts away from any particular candidate. That was very good to see.

I think that group will outshine Emily’s List in a very short while. They are more relevant, obviously.

I haven’t yet seen PUMA figures. They are certainly on the ball as far as giving members action steps. I’m receiving direction daily. (Today, call Pelosi and insist that Hillary receive a rollcall vote.)

Meanwhile, HuffPo is in disarray. They no longer know who to ban. The true-blue progressives are so angry with Obama that their comments read a lot like PUMAS. *haha

McCain deflected well with his advisor’s “whine” remark. I felt a collective breath of air rush into America as he made a joke and we didn’t all feel like we were living on eggshells. Obama’s overly earnest qualities are just too much. This Germany story is the worst yet ever. Good God. The man is truly a rally rock star and isn’t even embarassed to be that.

The RNC is in great shape so far. McCain is pounding ads in PA and has the money to stay competitive. And the RNC hasn’t even spent a dime yet.

Meanwhile, the DNC apparently is still struggling. They couldn’t meet their financial goals with Denver last month. I’ve not seen any good news yet. I don’t think we will. The traditional Dems were Hillary’s, and we active supporters have walked. The “new and improved” Dem party isn’t even used to donating to a party. They will not likely come through.

And Obama himself missed his own goal by 20 million?

    *hehe

Today is one of those nice days, eh?

  • John

It’s very good news if she isn’t being vetted. I don’t want her on the ticket, because I don’t want guilt pangs when I vote for McCain.

MUMBAI (Reuters) – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama supports a civilian nuclear trade deal between India and the United States and would not push for changes to it, an Indian news magazine quoted him as saying.

“I voted for the U.S.-India nuclear agreement because India is a strong democracy and a natural strategic partner for the U.S. in the 21st century,” he told Outlook magazine, according to a transcript provided by the magazine on Friday.

Speaking of embarassments to our country, this is beyond belief, this is what Bush did at the end of this week’s G8 meeting:

His final words to the likes of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy: “Goodbye from the world’s biggest polluter.”

That was the report from the British press, citing “senior sources” who said Bush made the private joke as he was about to leave Japan on Wednesday.

It stunned his partners, according to the Telegraph, which said:

He then punched the air while grinning widely, as the rest of those present including Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy looked on in shock.

    HRC’s people have jobs, sweetie.

Why does Obama Nation hate people who work?

  • I Will Remember in November

Hillary is playing it very smart. She is “supporting” Obama because when obama totally and utterly implodes hillary will be the nominee. No rationale person will be able to say she did not try to help obama with her supporters now he needs to do the same.

BTW, i have always thought obama’s fundrasing numbers were “cooked.”. My question is when or if the numbers a candidate reports are audited and by whom? If anyone has any special knowledge please answer. With so few candidates the job would not be onerous.

BTW (again) the frannie and freddie thing is getting critical–between the two companies they control over half–half of the mortgages in this country –that is scary. Now in your minds eye who did you see fixing and adequately addressing this “game changing” problem—HILLARY..HILLARY!

Is Obama ‘Fit’ Enough To Be Our President?

While campaigning in Oregon, Obama appeared more like a zombie going through the motions during press interviews.

Now is the period of time in which there are fewer appearances, less travel, and lighter schedules; yet even the LA Times has noticed that Obama is not handling this lighter stress.

One of the most consequential decisions a presidential candidate has to make is that of running mate. It speaks volumes about judgment, and is even more important than the running mate him/herself. What does that say about Barack Obama’s decision to take a close look at Friend of Angelo Chris Dodd?

The former White House hopeful and Connecticut lawmaker indicated Wednesday that he has been approached by the campaign. “There’s been some inquiries, yeah,” Dodd said. “They ask for a lot of stuff. I’ll leave it there.”

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton and Dodd’s Senate office declined comment Thursday.

  • BernieO

OK I am no Obama fan, but I do not get why this matters. I am more disturbed by his implying that he grew up in a lower class family when in fact his parents and American grandparents were highly educated and his grandmother was a VP of the largest bank in Hawaii. In addition his stepfather was well educated and had a really good job with an oil company. Both Barack and Michelle have led very privileged lives, even if they did not grow up rich. Heck, only twenty some percent of Americans even have a college degree let alone one from and Ivy League institution.

I get that there may be an issue about where Obama was born but as the child of an American citizen I do not think that technicality should disqualify him anymore that McCain’s being born outside the US should. (I know that special statutes cover his situation, but even if that were not the case this is a silly argument.) This is a murky area, but there is a good argument to be made that this is a non-issue. Here is a good article about this issue:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/28/us/politics/28mccain.html

There are plenty more things about Barack that we should be worried about like the fact that he was naive enough to vote to give Bush the power to wiretap him and his campaign. If Glen Greenwald at Salon.com is correct, Bush can wiretap anyone he chooses for 7 days and even if the FISA court judge then objects he can appeal and get 60+ more days to snoop. Since the court proceedings are secret, we will never know if this is happening, but keep your eyes open for leaks of damaging info from inside the campaign.
Given that Bush had no qualms about bringing political prosecutions in order to defeat Democrats like the up and coming Don Siegelman, it is not paranoid to think that he will use his new wiretapping privileges to help Republicans retain power. Nixon must be spinning in his grave – we just legitimized Watergate-type political spying!

Foreclosure filings were reported on a total of 9,009 Nevada properties, an increase of nearly 24 percent from the previous month and a 72 percent increase from May 2007.

California foreclosure activity in May increased 11 percent from the previous month and 81 percent from May 2007, helping the state continue to register the nation’s second highest state foreclosure rate. One in every 183 California households received a foreclosure filing during the month, a rate that was 2.6 times the national average.

Arizona’s May foreclosure rate — one in every 201 households received a foreclosure filing during the month — ranked third highest among the states for the second month in a row. Arizona foreclosure activity increased nearly 12 percent from the previous month and almost 119 percent from May 2007.

One in every 228 Florida households received a foreclosure filing in May, giving it the fourth highest foreclosure rate among the states. Michigan foreclosure activity in May increased nearly 25 percent from the previous month, helping the state’s foreclosure rate to jump to fifth highest among the states after ranking No. 9 the previous month. One in every 353 Michigan households received a foreclosure filing in May.

Other states with foreclosure rates ranking among the top 10 were Georgia, Colorado, Massachusetts, Ohio and New Jersey…….

“Under the Independence Constitution of Kenya, Obama became a Kenyan citizen on December 12, 1963. He has never renounced his Kenyan citizenship. On his senate web site, Obama tap dances around his own dual nationality when discussing his father. Obama obviously knows, because his father told him, that he also held/holds Kenyan nationality.

“Once again, we find Barry O concealing fascinating information about his identity. There is nothing unusual about dual nationality. Indeed, ancient Roman Law doctrines of jus sanguini and jus soli come into play, because both Kenya and the U. S. recognize dual nationality. Once again, the issue is not ‘legality.’ The issue is the cover-up; Obama’s concealment of his own identity. From us, and most of all from himself.

“The American people, when deciding who to support for president, have a right to know if their ‘president’ is also a citizen of Kenya and owes dual loyalty to Kenya because he has never renounced his Kenyan citizenship.

    Divided They Fall
    http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1821662,00.html

    from the times piece:

But true, professional unscrupulousness–the kind of do-anything-to-win pragmatism that Democrats envy in Republicans–requires more than just working yourself up into a lather of dislike. Sometimes, in fact, it requires the opposite: putting aside your dislike, your disappointments, your anger, your feelings of betrayal. In the case of Hillary Clinton’s erstwhile supporters, all of these feelings seem overwrought to me. But there is no point in arguing about this, or at least not now. Now is the time to just get over it.

  • BernieO

I agree. If he wins and screws up, which is more than likely given how inexperienced and unprepared he is she will be tarnished, too. Maybe Hillary’s not being vetted because she doesn’t want to be. A couple of weeks ago, Hillbuzz reported an “insider rumor” that Obama offered Hillary the V.P. slot when they met at Feinstein’s house. She rejected the offer, essentially saying that he was going down (October-but-hopefully-sooner surprise) and that she wasn’t about to go down with him. With Webb and Strickland backing away from the V.P. position, maybe the only people left to fill it will be Dean or Brazile. Then we could call the combo either De HO, or Bra HO. I forgot about Nancy. There could also be Pel HO.

  • notodisenfranchisement

here’s one scenario why they’re not vetting Hillary:

She’s already turned him down. If the rumor about the secret meeting at Feinstein’s DC home is true, than that’s the case.

if instead the BO camp hasn’t asked Hillary, then, it’s irritating, even if I would like to see her turn it down.

Think about this: if the candidate “Z” were a MAN who wasn’t named Clinton who won the popular vote, 18 million strong, and that the party were fracturing because those 18 million are still loyal to candidate Z, it would be the most obvious scenario for the DNC to lobby for candidate “Z” to bring about true unity for the Democrats.

This has got to make you think how resistant the Dem leadership is AGAINST Clinton and how much they fear her.

When campaigning for Rep. There already were 45 Democrats in the U.S. Senate. Mr. Obama claimed to be lonely because he was the only African-American in the Senate. Tell me, why did you vote for Clinton solely because she had a vagina? Obviously you dont support any of her ideals. Did you think it was because Rush told you to? Or because McCain would beat her easier?

    From Hillbuzz website:

“Zoinks! Daily Kos is tanking, reflective of the beating Kos’ personal reputation has taken for so aggressively backing Obama, who then betrayed Kos and everything he claims to believe in by flip-flopping on every important issue throughout this campaign. Kos was so drunk on the Kool-Aid that he didn’t have sense enough to see Obama for what he really is: the same old deceitful politician Chicago’s always produced.

But, these graphs are interesting because they show how precipitous Kos’ fall has been: not only did web traffic drop off after Hillary Clinton suspended her campaign, but JohnMcCain.com’s traffic has increased considerably, now matching Kos in popularity (and looking like it will soon surpass the Big, or, uh, now Medium-sized Orange).

It’s interesting to also note Obama’s own site has a dramatic decrease in hits as well, once more corresponding to Hillary Clinton’s suspension.”

Looks like the Kool-Aid is wearing off!

In the Fox video, I wish Will Bower had said that people are contributing to pay down her debt as a means of further protest and also as an expression of continuing support for her (so whether she has the means to absorb those loans is irrelevant). We can give money and vote to the candidates we support — the basic expression of a democracy. It should make Obama and the DNC worried that she is still raking in millions not from big donors but little people like me who also vote in November.

If anyone here talks to Will Bowers, maybe they can ask him to mention Obamas birth certificate issue on one of his next live interviews. It seems to me that the media does not report anything unless it comes out on the air, so maybe an approach like this could work to get the birth certificate story out there. He could say ” I am curious as to how to verify a candidates birth certificate. I understand Fox News had questioned the authenticity of John McCains birth in the Panama Canal and how it would effect his ability under the laws of US to run for the presidency”. We have been trying to verify Mr Obamas birth certificate but it has been {re} moved from his fight the smears web-site, and no one seems to have seen a real copy or knows if the laws written in 1961 would effect his ability to run for President. If nothing else that should get the story out there and could be our only chance to get someone in the media to look into it.. Just a thought.

    30%……of 18 million.

That should scare anyone with a lick of commonsense.

What was amazing to me was how consistent those numbers were, throughout the primary, in every part of the country.

It’s got nothing to do with PUMAs, either. We’re activists, worker bees in the party, the folks who make the phone calls and send the money. No, that 30% were moderate-conservative Democrats as well as the PUMAs.

From the Boston Globe article on public housing:

Obama has continued to support increased subsidies as a presidential candidate, calling for the creation of an Affordable Housing Trust Fund, which could distribute an estimated $500 million a year to developers. The money would be siphoned from the profits of two mortgage companies created and supervised by the federal government, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

  • hank48188

I would think the reason Obama doesn’t want to show his REAL birth certificate is that under the race of his father it would read ARABIC or something other than BLACK or AFRICAN. Yes, I think the fact that McCain is holding is actually a sign of momentum going his way. He should be slipping, but he’s not.

His favorables are even with Obama’s. The pundits keep trying to make his age an issue, but the favorable ratings indicate the public isn’t thinking that way.

It’s going to be a repeat, I bet, of the primaries.

Obama will lose the older voters, older Latinos, a lot of Jewish Dems, Catholics, women for Hillary, and men who want to see experience, working class whites. Obama won’t get out the Latino youth vote. They’ll stay home. He may have trouble getting the youth vote to the polls. That’s a traditional problem. Obama will get the left independents, even though he may not get much more money from them.

McCain will get the Republicans and moderate-conservative Dems who are swing voters. He’s picking up a sizeable number of disenfranchised Democrats such as PUMAs and working class folks. He may crack the Latinos again, if he can figure out how to keep his own party quiet while he wins them over.

He’s got Florida pretty well locked up. He’s close, close in Ohio.

Lots of time to go. Lots more to learn about Obama.

There is a sliver lining in McCain being AGAIN questioned about his BC.

It now opens the doors to Obambi being questioned to PRODUCE an ACTUAL BC, WITHOUT anyone crying RACIST propaganda.

This is about Obama’s citizenship and his eligibility to be the POTUS.

America’s media critic Andy Martin(he is an adjunct professor of law) slams the New York Times for anti-McCain bias

(NEW YORK)(July 11, 2008) We have planned to hold a blockbuster series of news conference in New York City next week. The “hard left” accuses me of being the mastermind of an operation to undermine Barack Obama’s campaign; I have pleaded guilty to having a clandestine command-and-control bunker deep beneath midtown Manhattan, where I manipulate the mainstream media and cause agita to liberals.

A story in Friday’s New York Times, however, has forced me to respond earlier than scheduled to anti-Senator John McCain media bias in the New York Times:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/11/us/politics/11mccain.html?hp

The Times gives national prominence to the ruminations of a quack law professor (I am an adjunct professor of law myself) who suggests Senator John McCain is not eligible to be president because his father was serving in the U. S. Navy in the Panama Canal Zone when the senator was born. Professor Gabriel Chin’s legal theories are loopy. But they trigged a different response with me. I immediately had questions about unbalanced coverage and media bias.
Why is the Times writing about McCain’s citizenship, which seems clear, and not writing about Obama’s citizenship, which appears opaque?

As long scheduled, I am going to be taking action next week on the topic of Obama’s eligibility to serve as president. In the meantime, in response to Adam Liptak of the New York Times, here is an advance peek at my concerns.

Barack Obama was born to a married, itinerant huckster from Kenya. Obama, unlike McCain, has not been forthcoming about his heritage.

    …(snip)….

With my customary thoroughness, I have conducted extensive research on the claims in the video and I will be announcing some of my findings at a series of New York news conferences next week. I will also be taking legal action to pry open the vault of Obama’s “family secrets.”

This year does not bring me any opportunity in that area, but I am voting R for the open senate seat. In 2006 I stood in line for hours (with 2 kids) to vote a straight D ticket to put the brakes on the Bush administration. Do that checks/balances thing.I think everyone knows how that worked out. My state (done by caucus) went for BO so the idiots in my state have political cover anyways.

  • http://yestodemocracy.com Christina

You should be happy with those changes. He is more centrist like Hillary and McCain- you McCainiacs love centrism!
You cannot be mad at Obama for flip-flopping. he is flip-flopping in YOUR right-wing favor.
Also, he only flip-flopped on FISA and public finance… The rest were things he ALWAYS supported.
but just like true Rush followers, you dont know what the term flip-flop or “under the bus” mean. Gosh, there’s that no child left behind proving ineffective once again.

I’m curious, how much of his own money did Obama put toward his campaign? Did he pony up at all or did he not have enough faith in his own abilities and qualifications?
My hope is that Hillary supporters pay off her debt and raise enough on top of that to embarrass Obama and the DNC. We have been assured that the money will not go to Obama and the DNC so any extra can be used get her campaign back on track when Lord Obama crashes and burns.

  • Acaha

So now it doesn’t matter if he’s ‘legal’ or not? Only citizens born in the U.S. can be president. That has not changed. And it will not change in order to nominate your crook.

I have never found anything Oblahma has said to be funny. I can’t think of one time all year. I found the 57 states statement disgusting and I don’t care if he was tired or not. I’d be happy to see ones posted on “Why I USED TO be a Democrat.”

  • Karma

Since this is a news thread here are a couple of articles I ran across.

Another ‘Get over it’ and ‘alleged sexism’…but with a new twist.

They are starting to blame the Obama supporters leaving due to FISA, etc as disgruntled Hillary supporters and go a step further to call it childish. The article also includes the big money supporters in the insults, when clearly they already knew about Obama’s real issues. Not the shallow arguments the MSM offers.

Who here was really suprised by Obama going to the center? It is the kool-aid drinkers that are the ones with a hangover. After his 2004 Convention speech, he became a spineless Dem justifing his votes like the rest of them only DAYS after taking office. The caveats have been there from the beginning to anyone who was listening.

    Anyway, read for yourself….

How dare the American people not hand the nomination to Hillary. After all, she deserves it, right?

Now there’s a crock. No one wants (that I have seen) the nomination handed to anyone. Hillary was shoved out of the race, bullied to withdraw for the sake of the Unity Pony, and is threatened with not even having her name on the ballot after an extremely close race. Then there was the Michigan/Florida debacle. Neither candidate has the required amount of pledged delegates to clinch the nomination. Super=d’s do not count until the convention. But while voting is still going on in Montana and S Dakota, the Associated Press declares BO has “clinched” the nomination. Nothing like a little voter suppression to help the empty suit along.

Her supporters are making a statement with donations to retire her debt.

  • BoboBolinsky

The jealousy of Barack Obama here is astounding. And I will not dignify it with a comment.

  • http://deleted AnninCa

No, I think the polls simply are reflecting old assumptions that people will vote Democrat if they have in the past.

    That bumps up his numbers.

However, that assumption is highly suspect this year.

Look at Congress approval ratings…..lowest ever. And the Dems have to accept that includes them.

Pelosi is NOT popular. The DNC is considered in shambles.

I believe the pundits are misreading the American public this year. It’s not just vote the Republicans out. It’s vote the Rascals out.

  • vinnie

I live in Denver too, and I had at least 10 people at the state convention tell the that they will never vote for that fraud.

Some Obot left a note in front of my door yesterday evening, to come join their cult. Saw my Hillary signs all over the lawn so must have been scared to ring the door bell. Grrrrrrrrr. Do we have PUMA yard signs yet? It would add to my landscape.

  • Dave_Not_For_Obama

Poster “believe” are you feeling ok today?
The Rasmussen Reports are the most accurate, so much so that yesterday you post only the part that was favorable to Obambi but omitted the unfavorable part. Today you use Gallop because is works to your
dishonest ways, lol. Get a grip, I don’t want to see skewed numbers on a daily basis from you, I’m a big boy now and can do that myself, if I had a NEED, lol.

Start posting polls a few weeks before the GE on a daily basis, or at least post when there is a REAL trend of some sort, the daily cherry picked polls you post fools nobody.

  • Bonita

I didn’t realize it was jealousy. I thought it was thoughtful reflection on his ineptitude as a candidate.

    Thanks for the analysis.

  • George Smathers

Obama is nothing but a closeted extrovert who would prbably abuse his own family into practicing nepotism with him. He probably already has videos of his preteen daughters practicing celibacy with each other. I wouldn’t be surprised if the mental scars from that experience leads them to be openly practicing thespians in the degenrate bowels of Hollywood.

  • Elizabeth Reilly

I received a disturbing email recently to the effect that there are contributions to Obama coming from Middle Eastern countries. (Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc.)..in large numbers.
Why isn’t this being investigated? Have we reached a point, if this is true, where we are allowing other countries to have a hand in deciding who the next American president will be? This is too much for me and smacks of something truly nefarious in the Obama camp. I hope this is not true, but I wouldn’t be surprised, given his really bad friendships and relationships throughout most of his adult life. This man either has just plain bad judgement, or has a plan he isn’t telling us about until it’s too late.

  • Bonita

Do they ever send you new material? You gotten so boring and I just used to love reading the posts that you’d cut and paste for us.

  • s. hall

betty — When I called the DNC a couple of months ago they told me they were totally neutral. So I will have to wait and see.

  • JozefAL

Sure, Percy. Go back and look at some prior historic precedents.
In 1968, Nixon was concerned that George Wallace would take too many Southern Conservative voters (many of whom had pushed the Deep South into GOP territory in 1964), thereby allowing the Democrats to retain the White House. Nixon still managed to eke out a narrow margin of victory in the popular vote (although less than a full majority–he only took 43.5% of the popular vote) but he won enough votes to capture an Electoral majority.
In 1980, John Anderson ran as an independent, after rejecting Reagan as being too conservative for the Republican Party as a whole. Unfortunately, there were almost as many Democrats attracted to Anderson as there were disaffected Republicans (but even more Democrats who actually liked Reagan) that Carter was hurt more by the Anderson campaign in the end. (Carter and the Democratic Party were initially happy with the Anderson run because they honestly believed that the GOP would be split, but when Evangelicals who’d gone for Carter in 1976 began opting for Reagan–with his “stronger” moral platform–that glee was quickly gone.)
In 1992, Perot took enough votes from potential GHWBush voters to cost Bush the electoral votes in some key states. (While it’s likely that some potential Clinton voters went for Perot, the general consensus is that Perot hurt Bush much more than he did Clinton.)
In 2000, there was the Ralph Nader problem. He took far more votes from those who would have otherwise gone for Gore, than Buchanan did from otherwise likely Bush voters. As Gore won a slightly larger popular vote on a national basis, that “Nader effect” cost Gore just enough votes in several very close states to lose those states’ electoral votes.
Of the last four campaigns where a third-party candidacy had a real impact on the election, three helped the GOP, despite the initial thought that the Democrats would be helped.
I don’t see how Democrats voting for ABO will do anything that will help O. (Especially when you’re talking about as little as 25% of 18 million Hillary supporters.)

  • Indy

My plan for after the convention (I’m waiting in case Hill pulls it out),is to put up a McCain sign and adorn it with my Hillary Supporters for John McCain bumper sticker. If they make PUMA signs, I’ll get one of those too.

    From the Gallup site analysis:

In the last two weeks, Obama’s share of the vote has ranged between 46% and 48%, while McCain’s has ranged from 42% to 44%. So while preferences have not shifted dramatically, Obama enjoys a larger lead in the latest report because his support is now at the upper end of his recent range while McCain’s is at the lower end of his.

If Obama loses in November his political career will be over. He will not be a rival to anyone for the nomination in 2012 or any other year.

Hillary can run again. She can say I told you so.

Obama would have as much chance of getting the nomination again as; Humphrey/Mondale/Dukakis/Kerry

Now that might be an interesting 4-8 yrs!

  • noproblama

Most of the outspoken and donating Obama “supporters” were simply Hillary haters.

He’s losing the “ZOMG, Hillary totally voted for the war” lefties and will soon be left with just the kids and the AAs. That is if the AAs don’t jump ship too.

  • basil

    Water spurt over the keyboard!

  • Dawnelle

    lmao!

  • Dawnelle

    Pahahaha!

  • DancingOpossum

What’s even funnier about those 133 signatures is that most of them were from PUMA folk. And some of those were downright hilarious.

I am AMAZED once again by HRC’s supporters. I was only able to make a small donation as I’m sure many were, but together we delivered a THUMPING blow to the DNC and the Obots.

I thin kthat is why they are so nervous. The DNC is going broke, BO is missing his fundraising goals and losing support, while Hillary–the evil loser–STILL commands overwhelming support and loyalty. Amazing!

That’s why she has to play the “good Democrat” and back Obama. When her turn comes in 2012, she can’t be seen as the one who tried to sabotage him or the party in any way. Her supporters can do it for her as long as she personally continues to support the party and party’s nominee, and continue to build a stronger image for herself and a stronger presence within the party. And she is smart enough to know that.

AnninCa, your post really lifted my spirits. Onward and upward!

    And:

I’d be happy to see ones posted on “Why I USED TO be a Democrat.”

    LOL, Ellen.

  • Dawnelle

I think DODD is one of the Senators that “soapboxed” against that FISA bill that BAmbi (the coward that he is) voted FOR!!

    Hillary’s a GOOD GIRL!! Again!!
She gets all the stars. True Blue. God BLESS HER!

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

Why do we hate America? That’s what Bushbots say, now who’s the republican? You are a piece…but not of ass.

  • barack who?

    Yes.

It’s so glaringly obvious, but the BHO camp won’t admit it, just like they conveniently ignored the fact that Hillary swept through the big battleground states.

It was said that the general election was BHO’s to lose, but now it looks like the Dem nomination is slipping away from him.
C-SPAN will be some good viewing come August.

  • Dawnelle

roflol ooo that’s baaaad! but funny

  • barack who?

please, after that lady didn’t sing the Star Spangled Banner when that’s what she was contracted to do, I thought two things:

    a. She’ll be hard pressed for singing gigs in future

    b. Put Colorado in McCain’s bucket

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

Boingo! I’m lucky to be able to hang at home with the kids and blog, most of my fellow democrats are busy working two jobs and scooting kids all over hell. They are the ones barky pissed off with his bitter comments and scared the hell out of with Rev. Wright. No Barky for them.

  • http://yestodemocracy.com Christina

Sigh- learn about your candidate please.

“John McCain supports faith based initiatives, and recognizes their important role in our communities. He has co-sponsored legislation”

    Right off his site.

  • http://yestodemocracy.com Christina

Aw, look, you couldn’t comment with anything to refute what I said so you insult like a moron.. err.. like a true, blind, PUMA.

  • noproblama

Yeah, when obummer gets treated like this by the media, be sure to let us know.

By the way, saying someone is not qualified to be POTUS is not a personal attack. Not surprising that you don’t know the difference.

  • http://yestodemocracy.com Christina

    1. You should be doing back-flips about Obama supporting FISA, your golden boy McCain also supports the bill.. even though he didn’t care enough to go and vote on it.

2.Also, why would you want your tax dollars going to someone you hate so much? I would think you would be soo happy that he opted our of public financing.

3.You should READ something besides NoQuarter because Obama doesn’t want to continue Bush’s faith based initiatives, he has his own faith based initiatives. MCCAIN supports BUSH’S faith based initiatives. He’s even cosponsored bills in support of it.

more people not knowing what they are talking about. Geez, you would think you people were Repub- oh wait…. you are Republicans.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

HIGHLY MUSCLED?! You did see him in his swimsuit, right? Blech! You are disgusting. He’s scrawney and flabby. And he was/is a smoker, how can he be in good health? Don’t forget the coke he did in college. You have very low standards. Yuck.

  • http://deleted AnninCa

I always knew Obama would ditch the support base that brought him here. No surprise to me on FISA. More to come, too.

What’s interesting is that he THINKS he’ll replace them with Hillary’s folks in fundraising.

    Not happening.

He may have just met his Waterloo. The only real stand he’s taken as a senator, and it may well sink him.

  • elise

A naturalized citizen is not elegible to be president.

  • http://yestodemocracy.com Christina

oooo you told me! I better run away now! haha
I can have just as vile a mouth as your group of hypnotized cronies. I didnt name an entire coalition obscenely. Want to guess who did?
Republican-facsism should scare you, you’re so dense and self-centered you are supporting it. But I imagine that you could care less, you’re like a child stomping around because your balloon popped.
you only care about YOUR feelings and YOUR vote.. not about Iraq, not about Afghanistan, not about Iran, Isreal, not about women’s issues.. NOPE. YOU.. Smart thinking. how many cats do you have?

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

I thought believe was some sort of female, it seems to find barky sexually attractive, but then again…this is barky we’re talking about.

  • http://deleted AnninCa

*hehe….never know these days. That was a funny misread on my part.

I guess the Sinclair influence. :)

  • http://yestodemocracy.com Christina

I know that bushbots say that- which is why one of the Noquarter readers accused me of being one. Bushbots, all of you! hahahahaha See how smart you are?

  • CognitiveDissonance

This is so funny! Maybe you don’t care, but you can bet the Republicans do. It would be just like them to have a copy showing he isn’t eligible and then drop it the day after the convention. (Along with the Michelle whitey tape and all their other ammunition). That’s how they play the game.

  • http://yestodemocracy.com Christina

Obama hasn’t ditched anyone.. he did what he has been saying he would do for the longest- worked across the aisle. thats more than I can say for 95% McBush.

  • elise

Seems like OB didn’t turn over information about his bundlers. BTW where are his tax returns from 1993-2004? Then there are his legislative records from Chicago. The Rezko money not originally reported and where did it go? I just saw Harry Reid is on the VP list. It should be fun for the Republicans to vet him. Dodd and Countrywide would be a good ad for the RBC.

And let me see if I understand this part: The Clinton Foundation ( a charity ) has recieved donations from Saudis and others from around the world and that needs to be open, but Obama’s donations from Rezko and Auchi are ok as is?

  • elise

I donated to Hillary today and can’t wait for my tee shirt.

  • elise

Diane Feinstein voted for the FISA Bill. If she has an opponent in Nov. I’d be happy to donate to that person’s campaign. and i don’t even live in Ca.

  • elise

Sorry bj, but I don’t agree. The PUMA people looked very prepared and determined and any hearing they get right now is good. I don’t like FOX, but I absolutely LOATHE CNN and MSNBC. FOX has a large audience and getting the word out is the point.

  • elise

    BRAVO!

  • Bri

Great news. I contributed money again this morning.
Now. Talking points. If someone asks why you’ll not
voting for NObama then ask Do you not like Black people?. You should ask them..Do you not like white people or Women?. They will have the biggest shock and
    disgust on their face, lol.
BTW I am American and Black.

  • imustprotest

ha! lol, you’re very strange Chrisina.

  • imustprotest

Are you nuts??? McCain has the most extensive bi-partisian record of any senator!. He has co-sponsored (he is the main sponsor, thus first) bills with Kennedy, Feingold, Edwards, Lieberman. The biography, Citizen McCain, by Elizabeth Drew emphasizes his bipartisan view and concern for the national interest over partisan politics.

  • imustprotest

Christine, you need to calm down. Why don’t you go blow a few smoke rings like your messiah and come back when you feel better.

  • cc

does anyone know where we are in paying down Hillary’s debt?? I bought the t-shirt today…it’s a bit pricey, but I had to do it. I can NOT have her prostituting herself to such an ugly thug.

  • Katmoon

Prior to this primary, I hadn’t seen overt sexism used to this extreme. Also, when Senator McCain was Swiftboated in 2000 and Senator Kerry in 2004, there was backlash. But none, for Senator Clinton, because she has been their favorite “whipping post”, for many years. There is a great page on the NOW site, with a media Hall of shame, just so you remember, in November.

‘beleive’ are you the only responder/defender for BO, ’cause seriously they need an UPGRADE.

  • Deep Truths

Hey ‘believe’ is only here for distraction. He brings up everything except the gist of the thread: PUMA raised a hell of alot of money in three days.

Don’t believe in ‘believe’. Not only is he a distraction but a narcissitic punk as well. Just like BO.

  • Hmm

Can you imagine the look on the faces Howard Donna Nancy and old man Reid when the hear that we paid off Hillary’s debt.

Do you think that its starting to sink into their fat ugly heads yet that things are not going to be ok?

  • cc

did we do it???? I can’t find any confirmation anywhere.

I’m not sure Obama likes Black, white, or women.

    Just high dollar folks….lol

Christina dude, I care about Iran, Iraq, Afgahanistan and Pakistan. Will you please remind us where Obama currently stands on Iran and Iraq? Also, does he still want to bomb Pakistan? I thought PAkistan was our ally- epecially given Afghanistan and all.

Also, why does not Obama care about a woman’s emotional state for late term abortions? Even McCain and the majority or dem and repub allow for this. So Obama will not allow for an abortion for incest? I guess those sweeties will just have to “get over it.”

You are right. I do only care about my vote. I am glad you can vote for your candidate. Democracy is fun. Plus, it is the duty of the minority to question the majority in order to supplant the tyrany of the majority.

    No mob rules here.

You are welcome to kick and scream here all you want.

    Hillary 2008

  • eriezindian

Adlai Stevenson did just that in 1956. But I really think the Dems that knew they would not defeat Ike, a popular war hero, so they gave the nomination to STevenson two election cycles in a row.

  • Hmm

If PUMA pays off Hillarys debt the DNC will attack it.

  • http://hotair.com/archives/2008/06/02/michelle-obama-dont-trust-bloggers-because-people-lie/ Kelly

believe– you know this has been covered.

There are federal laws that spell out the requirements for naturalization and citizenship. They have been covered and addressed over and over. They cover situations where the parents are on vacation, birth on military base, or when ONE parent or more is not already a US Citizen.

Plus, I will let you in on a little secret. The 14th says that if one establishes CITIZENSHIP in one state- that person is a citizen in all other states. This is a law that the states must follow- this is not a law which allows states to determine citizenship.

As such, you are quoting out of context. That is OK. I like it because you give us the opportunity to educate.

Keep it up believe. You serve a valuable function. Thank you.

    This is a comment:

The jealousy of Barack Obama here is astounding.

  • SueB.

It’s in the DNC “2008 Call to Convention” which describes the procedures of the Convention. They HAVE to take candidates’ names into nomination from the floor.

I’ve read a whole lot of the RULZ since May.

Not that the rulz mean anything anymore. :(

  • Karma

I went to the DNC Convention website and came to the same conclusion.

Though it didn’t have an official rulz feeling either.

    http://www.demconvention.com/convention-101/

  • C D Ward

JozefAL (apparently channeling Howard Dean) said:
. . . that “Nader effect” cost Gore just enough votes in several very close states to lose those states’ electoral votes.

Sorry, friend, but that one just begs for a “bullshit” call.

Several very close states? By that you mean . . . uh . . . Florida? Or would you rather discuss how Gore’s campaign manager, Donna Brazile, seized defeat from the jaws of victory by losing not only his home state (Tennessee) but also Big Dog’s home state, Arkansas.

Naw, that doesn’t fit into Donna’s “it was all that Nader’s fault” lame excuse for losing, does it?

Florida 2000 has been thoroughly and factually researched by newspapers and other media more than once in the last few years. Here’s what one longtime reporter (since 1957) and editor (since 1964) discovered:

[. . .] While it is true that during October, Nader began pulling a running average of 6% at a time when Gore was fading, Gore continued to lose ground even as Nader’s support dropped to its final 3%. In other words, despite the help of defectors from Nader, Gore did worse.

Further, as Michael Eisencher reported in Z Magazine, 20% of all Democratic voters, 12% of all self-identified liberal voters, 39% of all women voters, 44% of all seniors, one-third of all voters earning under $20,000 per year and 42% of those earning $20-30,000 annually, and 31% of all voting union members cast their ballots for Bush. [. . .]
    http://www.prorev.com/green2000.htm

Now, if you believe that there should be only be three choices in an election — D, R, or stay home — and everyone should just somehow shoehorn themselves into that corrupt system, like it or not . . . that’s your option; just say so up front.

But let’s leave Aunt Donna’s lie propaganda story of how the evil ogre stole victory from good Sir Albert where it belongs: on the kindergarten bookshelf with all the other fairytales.

  • Diana

Our Golden Boy McCain isn’t the one that ran around saying he didn’t support FISA and how he was going to filibuster it. Then changed his mind. Our Golden Boy isn’t the one that that ran around claiming there was 57 states. Our Golden Boy isn’t the one that was pounding his chest about women’s rights with all his present votes. Our Golden Boy isn’t the one that ran around voting “FOR” the criminal and against our children. Our Golden Boy isn’t the one that ran around saying he was against NAFTA. Wait he’s for it. Our Golden Boy didn’t rung around screaming he was the Candidate of Hope and Change then changes his mind on campaign financing. Our run his campaign on the same program as a man accused of Genocide. Raila the candidate of Change. Our Golen boy isn’t the one that ran around saying he was going to withdrawl the troops, set a timetable, then turned around and said he never said that. Our Golden boy isn’t the one that out and out lied in an ad claiming he extended health care to vets when he didn’t write it. Sponser, co-sponser the bill. Our Golden Boy isn’t the one that has written ONE bill for Kenya and had 25 more handed to him. He actually worked and did write bills. Just as Hillary did.

If O-Boy has to run and switch to every single plan Hillary had why not let the one that came up with those plans run. Hillary.

How can we be right wing centrists? Do you even read what you write?

  • mahaska

Despite the name you are using, I think you’re a male.

  • Diana

Oh and one more thing our Golden Boy isn’t the one that sat in a church for 20 years listening to Black Liberation Theology being taught, then subjected his children to racism and vile. That ran in ’96 under the new party as the Black Panther’s candidate; as well as a Democrat.

  • mahaska
