As a Catholic Conservative Republican resident of Zanesville, Ohio, I can attest to the non-plussed attitude of our community. I must object to the Catholic inclusion in Linda's assessment of who was looking for the handouts. Maybe in Chicago, dear, … but not in these parts! We tend to our neighbors as family, whether we agree with them politically or in faith.

We sent teams and individuals from every congregation in town, to help after Katrina! Some of us wonder why the hue and cry against FEMA arose, since any and all help deserves gratitude, and so much advance warning was given, … and the feds are forbidden from action until invited by the state!

Democrat or Republican, Zanesvillians are grateful for every cent of federal aid we have ever received. The Army Corps of Engineers attenuated and regulated our flood problem after 1913, by damming the Licking river at Nashport. We know how good they are, and question the cooperation vs. corruption of the New Orleans/ LA government, while aiding and comforting their populace.

If the money were left to the people, their charity would be great! Create wealth, and you will fund charity! Many of us would like our local government to attain the level of sophistication necessary to reduce our need for federal funds in the future, as our charities are great, and our hearts strong. We are Zanesvillians!

I'm in the minority, here. I came back. Most of my peers left, and most of the people here came from poorer, smaller communities to this County Seat, ( New Concord is a Village, Zanesville is a City, by the way, ). Much was said, when Michelle Obama told us to forsake aspiration, about our low per capita ratio of college grads. This is merely a reflection of opportunity! Degrees are only tickets out, because the jobs are not here to support the skills. Education, Health Care, and Justice are the only certain paths. Muskingum County generates many great minds, that find fame elsewhere, while the vacuum left in their departure is filled with the less opportune seeking to fill the void en route the fate of their predecessors!

America is far greater than it might be, for the efforts of the people of Zanesville, Ohio!

When Obama announced his "faith based" initiative in Zanesville...I thought this guy is clueless.

Those people from small towns, bitter, gun totin' bible thumpin' folk from congregational churches do not care for Bush's faith based initiatives.

Obama incorrectly assumed since they were "religious" bitter white folk that must support Bush's religious policies.

The large denominations are for the Bush dollars including the Reverend Moon. It is the Roman Catholic, the Presbyterians and the Moonies. The rest want the government to stay out of their business. Congregationalists are fiercely independent. Two minutes of research would have answered that question.

Obama has no clue what goes on with average Americans especially mid westerners and folks from Appalachia.

Ted Strickland, gov. of Ohio, is from that part of the state. He is also a minister Ted offered to help Obama campaign in Ohio as long as Obama did it Strickland's way versus Kerry's way. Guess what way Obama decided? Obama could have asked Strickland if announcing his idea to that part of the state would have been well received. I guess Obama didn't ask.

“Even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools?” Obama said. “Would we go with James Dobson’s or Al Sharpton’s?”quote>

Oh I don't know. How about that guy Jesus?

I'm just a patriotic bitter white/catholic/Irish/Italian man raised in bitter country and am a son of a steel worker from Pittsburgh who instilled the values of hard work and family with an appreciation and respect for all people in our great country.
My family are FDR/Reagan/Clinton/McCain Democrats that value Country before Party.

Patti...Thanks for the kind comments!

There are two types of people in this world. Those that simply receive information usually by the TV or more recently through cult worship.
The other type of person seeks out information from all sources and are constantly discerning and modifying there views based on conditions and how they change through time.
The Obamabots are told what to say and are attempting to force those views onto us.
They have hit a brick wall called reality thinking!

Here's a little known fact.
John Glenn went to school with my father at Muskingum. As we all know he became the first man in space.
What people don't know is that he could barely drive a car.
In fact he drove his 57 Chevy right into the lake.

We love John Glenn!!

The faith-based initiative is the same as it is for Bush, a way to buy support from church leaders with promises of future money, from which, naturally, the leader, family and friend will draw "salaries."

I totally agree with this, Ohio. I think because of the stench left by ME-shell's horrific flop by telling the women of Zanesville they shouldn't go corporate and seek out money has left a permanent scar both in the town and nationally, and this was BaCaca's attempt to "Brandenberg Gate" it. That is, to try to paint it over with some phony, 'soaring' imagery.

BZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTT

He only revealed himself as the snob he is (dissed the common folk) and did more damage. What a clown.

People in my county in PA (Luzerne and neighboring Lackawana) really dislike this guy and he was extremely rude when he first came through here, according to many reports. He tried to clean that up with his whole bus trip fiasco, but it didn't work: Both counties, I believe, went like 75-25 HRC.

The guy is an arrogant punk, and the more you get to know him the more you see that. Unlike his moronic statements like to know him is to love him, he wears extremely poorly on people.

Look out below! BaJoke's a falling fast and hard. Next stop: Back to Chi-town and the Senate.

Excellent work by Fund on that piece. Thanks so much for posting that link and info, Ilyich.

This is exactly what those opposed to BaJoke need to do: Start shining the light on his corrupt henchmen like ACORN so that we don't get "caucused" again.

We got bamboozled one time. No more.
