    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/11/AR2008071102545.html

Pulitzer Prize winning writer David Broder of the Washington Post on the Obama flip-flops:

The McCain campaign issued its own list of Obama’s changed positions; it totaled 17 items but confessed that “nobody knows what Barack Obama truly believes.”

I can do no better, and I confess that it is only speculation to suggest that Obama’s recent performance is motivated by a desire to confuse the opposition.

[skip] But Obama’s case is more challenging than the typical candidate’s post-primary adjustment. For one thing, he is more opaque than the usual nominee. No one in recent decades has emerged as the party standard-bearer from so truncated a political career: four years in the U.S. Senate, during which he has yet to lead on any major domestic or foreign policy issue, preceded by largely anonymous service in the Illinois state Senate.

There have been few occasions when Obama’s professed beliefs could be tested against his action. [skip]

He won by convincing a narrow majority of Democratic voters that he could mobilize otherwise distrustful and alienated citizens with his promise to change Washington and to introduce a more open and less partisan brand of politics. Because his personal credibility was such a key to his success — and remains so — the changes now occurring in his positions have a significance far beyond themselves. [skip] Obama is making it hard for the Republicans to figure out how to attack him. The risk for him is if he also frustrates the voters who need to understand what makes him tick. They don’t elect enigmas to the Oval Office.

I’m wondering what the people here think they can accomplish by defeating Obama.

I’ve seen a a few people advocating for McCain to win so that Hillary can run against him in 2012.

But maybe, we should stop and think about how if folks like the PUMA’s help defeat Obama, and if Hillary is seen as helping to defeat Obama (either by not campaigning hard enough for him, or by giving the Republicans talking points via her attacks against Obama in the primary, or by not condemning attempts like this to defeat Obama), that there will be such a backlash against her, that any future presidential aspirations she has might be ruined (if she is seen by many, many Democrats as contributing to us losing the White House in 2008).

Sites like this one might be doing more harm to Hillary and her future aspirations than you think.

    Just a thought.

My first priority is making sure Obama is not elected president. Secondary would be Hillary’s political career. I think many PUMAs will agree with me.

Agree absolutely! This isn’t about HRC. It’s about making sure that Obama and his motley crew never walk into the White House.

And besides, Hillary Clinton is quite capable of taking care of herself and her legacy.

The New Yorker has published an article about Obama and his Chicago connections and a little beef he had on the floor of the Illinois Congress with another
Senator where he told the guy……”I am going kick
your ass,” Doesn’t fit with his image of Uniter…more of a street fighter. The article has a lot of the history of his time in Chicago that you have read on No Quarter but it also has some other tidbits. The one thing that is missing, is something that has not been in any acoount of Obama except here and that is his time with Ayers and the Annenberg Education Fiasco. It’s a long read but if you are interested, here is the link.

One point the article seems to make over and over, is this guy is a politician and always has been and his claims to the contrary are a joke.

    I agree with you, anon.

Oh, remember that flap about Obama and foreign languages a few days ago? It turns out he doesn’t even speak a foreign language. Wait, what about his claims of Indonesian proficiency? Not so much . . .

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/07/como-se-dice-ob.html

While the Obama campaign says that Obama speaks a little bit of Indonesian, Obama himself admits that he isn’t bilingual.

“I know because I don’t speak a foreign language. It’s embarrassing!” he said.

I know the Indonesian stuff is old news — the Chicago Trib covered it last year:

Obama has claimed on numerous occasions to have become fluent in Indonesian in six months. Yet those who knew him disputed that during recent interviews.

Israella Pareira Darmawan, Obama’s 1st-grade teacher, said she attempted to help him learn the Indonesian language by going over pronunciation and vowel sounds. He struggled greatly with the foreign language, she said, and with his studies as a result.

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/chi-070325obama-youth-story,1,7937142,full.story

But it’s good to know his campaign now admits it.

Noah, You’re late to the party. We will not support the corrupt leadership of the Democrats. We will not enable Dean/Pelosi/Reid/Brazile to foist an unqualified candidate on us. We will not allow a poseur to mislead a gullible desperate public or misrepresent the founding principles of what used to be the party of the people. We and Hillary can take care of ourselves. The Democratic party will not survive what it is doing. We need a thorough housecleaning…soul cleaning actually. We can start from scratch if we have to. McCain is not GWB and you should get beyond that right now. He is infinitely more trustworthy than the crooks we are standing up to.

For the second straight day, the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows that the race for the White House is tied. Sunday’s numbers show Barack Obama and John McCain each attracting 43% of the vote. When “leaners” are included, the two candidates are tied at 46%. For most of the past month-and-a-half, Obama has led McCain by approximately five percentage points. It will take a few more days to determine whether this recent tightening of the race reflects real change or is merely statistical noise.

  • BytheBeardofZeus

Noah tour argument is weak. Your candidate expects people to forget all his primary positions.

By that standard in 2012 Hillary will be totally forgiven.

  • hillaryfighter

Our priority is to defeat Obama. It’s not about Hillary, it’s about defeating a Hitler-lite type of monster from the get go.

Nobody is sure what the future will hold for Clinton. We are not BOTS, our loyalty is not with any single political figure. I doubt many PUMAs really put much thought on whom to support in 2012 at the moment. 4 years is life time in politics.

Can somebody tell who is funding Taylor flip flop Marsh? She seemed to haul in lots of money during primary as many Hillary supporters donated to her site.

Now her site is becoming a ghost town, I’m just curious who is footing her bill? Obama campaign or some labor unions?

Obama is unfit for office. If you have two bad choices, you choose the lesser of two evils. If not Hillary then McCain.

This is a little OT -but I watched Donna Brazaille blow off the possibility that HRC would be put in nomination at the convention today on George S program. A few weeks ago I googled the Democratic Convention to see what they were saying -at the time I checked they gave a run down of what usually happens each day – like the first day they take care of business – like the Credentials Committee, any outstanding issues, votes for candidates etc – this evening I went there and none of that info is present – just that Obama is the presumed nominee – nothing about HRC being voted for – the whole site has changed. It looks like the Obama campaign has totally taken over that web page too. It is really unbelievable!

And then there was Donna Brazile on CNN yesterday acting as if she was kissing Bill and Hill’s butt…saying how important the Clintons are, blah, blah, blah. I wanted to throw up. What a snake.

HRC just raised 4.1 million for Obama. She’s doing what she is supposed to be doing for him. We PUMA’s are on our own, and if we do manage to defeat him, the country will be better off.

HRC will be fine, in fact, she is a star. She could have won. Obama won’t. We all knew that.

How do you expect me to take your comment seriously when you compare Obama to Hitler? That’s just ridiculous and pathetic.

No American politician (even Bush) deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as that genocidal maniac.
