This is one of the neatest stories i've seen in a while, and your commentary throughout, Amy, brought it even more to life.

Clara, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I can understand the sadness of absence - I still keep looking for my beloved Sweetie, who died a couple of months ago. My condolences to you.

Yes, a miracle indeed.

And thanks, Linda! When I saw this last night, it just made me smile - Sabi has such joy in her eyes, even after her 14 month sojourn...

Dogs are really, in my mind, angels given to us as a reminder of how much better we could be.

What a great statement and I fully agree. I lost two of my Golden angels this year and the sadness of their absence is profound. I'm so glad that Sabi's return meant so much to her unit and her handler. What a miracle!

ROTFLNAO - that Hobbes is one smart cat (as I type with one hand while the other is holding up my cat, Pubkin').

I just happened to read the article last night when I was checking out the latest. It is a great stry, isn't?

I'm with you, Kbentleyis - we make them monthly to the Humane Soc., to the ASPCA, WWF, special gifts to North Shore Animal League (a no-kill shelter long ago), horse organizations.

This story, and the others like it (see Joel's comment below) really do open up a window into what these soldiers are doing, and with whom they are working. Amazing.

While in the US Marine Corps I got into a fight in LA and the MPs put me in the dog kennel (Canine Corps)all night. Some of the best friends of man are dogs. The dogs and me got along just fine. People are what bug the hell out of me. Too bad the Marines wouldn't let them (the Canine Corps) eat in the mess halls. But then maybe they got better chow at the Kennels. Don't think they got SOS like us shit birds did. Aussies are a lot like dogs too- loyal to almost a fault :)
