To NARAL, NOW, Ms Magazine, Emily’s List, all Clairol Girls who ignored The Signs, How ya doin’?

(Bumped up from Saturday morning.)

this-is-what-a-feminist-looks-like

ARE YOU SURE?????????????

There’s a little gift waiting for all of you for endorsing Barack Obama.

Congratulations, the misogyny is about to complete itself. Start hauling all the water all over again. My generation did it once for you and you let it all be whittled down.

It started with things like calling a reporter “Honey”. Playing “99 Problems But a Bitch Ain’t One Of Them” at a rally. Did you attend and bounce around to the moooooosic? There was the vibrating cell phone in his pants, and him telling the woman next to him he wasn’t being “fresh”. You’re likeable enough, Hillary. Hillary has “Periodic” moments of “depression”. She threw the “Kichen sink” at him. There were the Mental Children groping cardboard cutouts. You all saw, but it was just too much FUN to swoon over the sexy man!

Women’s Rights are Human Rights”. Now, gee who said that again??? Hint: It wasn’t Barack Obama. His idea of Women’s Rights when he spoke in a part of the world that is most noted for maiming, hating on and killing women is women have the Right to wear the hijab. He made it very clear that Human Rights were NOT a priority. Yes He Can and Yes He Did.

You all threw Hillary under the Yes We Can bus and Now You Can’t. You all watched them give away her delegates, restructure how delegates were distributed. You all watched how she would clobber Obama in a state primary and the next day another big shot would endorse him. You said nothing. Nada. Zip. And lo and behold, she would clobber him in a state again and he would get more delegates than she did from that primary or bogus caucus that she won. Now HOW could that BE! Well, you didn’t care. It was all so much FUN! Even when they called women C*nts! Wasn’t that cool!!!!? Expect the same primary and caucus treatment when you are looking to advance yourself in Corporate America, because this kind of shit always rolls downhill.

The Stupak Amendment. You did it yourself, didn’t you? You let it happen. Now I surf the net and read about how you are doing what the rest of us horrible PUMAs did last year. Ripping up those DNC donation cards, writing “Sorry I’m giving my money to Planned Parenthood” notes and mailing them back at their expense. Angry, are ya? Well, this could have been avoided. A President is supposed to wield power. A President is supposed to influence Congress, especially when that Congress is of that President’s own party. Where are you seeing that? Stupak just crapped all over you and your President used, to coin one of his stump speeches, “Just Words”.

I have news for you. Obama will sign that bill with or without the C Street Secret Fundie amendment. If he does, he won’t take the blame either. He never does. Even if that amendment dies in the Senate, don’t you find it more than a little frightening that it even made it to the House, with a WOMAN in charge? You don’t find this in the least disconcerting???? Funny isn’t it, how all the boyz you followed are telling you to stop being “hysterical” and “emotional” now, isn’t it? They are telling you to “Calm down” and you will “Feel better about it later”. Sound familiar? It’s called being Marginalized.

You reap what you sow. But you can still sit around and do nothing. After all, he played golf with a girl last week after people noticed what a Boys Club his White House really is. Keep ignoring the signs, if you want. It’s probably too late anyways. But hey, it will give you something to do for the next decade or so, while you revolt to take back what you already had and lost. My generation marched and stood in the rain and snow to fight for your rights, girlz. We incurred the bruises in Corporate America to make it easy for your asses. We made it and you blew it. Do you have what it takes to take back the rights of women as Human Beings? We’ll see. My money is not on you. Prove me wrong or go quietly into the night.

nationalwomanspartyLet me tell you girlz, and that is what you all are: You can believe me or you can continue to hum with your fingers in your ears: The only difference between the far right and the far left is the far right practically comes right out and says they hate women and want them to live with Father Knows Best. The far left feels exactly the same way, only they have lied to you and the signs were always there. The one thing they always brandished to keep your ass in line was “Abortion”. And now they have forsaken you. You are nothing to them but a vote to help the powerful see to your own subjugation. Did you notice now that all those boyz you stood side-by-side with during campaign time are NOT rallying very loudly for you? Where’s that huge demonstration at the White House and Capitol Hill steps? Just asking.

If the Fundie named Stupak and his amendment written by his Republican co-sponsor goes down in the Senate, they will say,” See??? We love yas!”. If that happens, will you be smart enough to ask loudly, why is it that this amendment ever passed in the House in the first place????? They will be counting on you hockey puck broads do be grateful after they scare the crap out of you. Again. They have been playing this game with women for years, gang. How many times do you have to be a puck before you Get It?

Even George W never tried this, gang, and he was the social conservatives’ and the religious right’s puck. How telling is that? I’m staying home in 2010, you on the other hand will be tossed some bone and you will pull those misogynist levers again, isn’t that right????? The message here is you are the Suckers. You are nothing more than votes. And when the votes are tallied, you are the Target. Rinse and Repeat. Women have Power and they don’t use it! Don’t be a voting fool. The only way to let this “New” Democratic Party remember you are a human being just like the boys are is to show them they don’t have the votes to win without you. Stop being pucks. This is not a ”Progressive” Party. It’s a Regressive Party, starting with subjugating you. Stop voting for your own oppressors! I’m not voting for any Social Conservatives. Not Ever. But I am also never going to again vote for a Liar or a Regressive. That means, both parties will not get my vote. I don’t vote for women’s oppressors. Why would YOU do it? I’m not leaving the Democratic Party. I plan to show my face to vote in primaries against Regressives who hate women. How about you?

Indulge me one more time, here. Let me show you what you missed and what you lost. They are called Signs, girlz. Signs you CHOSE to ignore.

Let’s take a trip to 2007, a little stroll down memory lane. You know, humor the Old Girl, mmmmmkay?:

What’s most interesting about this endorsement from March of Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, which the Clinton campaign is trotting out again this morning, is not so much that Bonnie Grabenhofer, president of the Illinois National Organization for Women Political Action Committee would support “our native sister.”

It’s that Grabenhofer underlines that during his 2004 Senate race against Alan Keyes, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, did not receive Illinois NOW PAC’s endorsement.

Why?

“(B)ecause he refused to stand up for a woman’s right to choose and repeatedly voted ‘present’ on important legislation. As a State Senator, Barack Obama voted ‘present’ on seven abortion bills, including a ban on ‘partial birth abortion,’ two parental notification laws and three ‘born alive’ bills. In each case, the right vote was clear, but Senator Obama chose political cover over standing and fighting for his convictions.

“When we needed someone to take a stand, Senator Obama took a pass,” said Grabenhofer. “He wasn’t there for us then and we don’t expect him to be now.”

I guess Kim Gandy was absent that day. And you fought to keep her.

And OOOPS! That Illinois NOW Clinton endorsement link quoted above is gone.

Aren’t you all bright and wise Know It Alls? No sense of listening to those old hippy wimmin who busted their asses for you (Phyllis Chesler comes to mind), when you were having so much fun with the cool charismatic messiah! You hitched your star to a misogynist, girlz. And you attached feminism to one thing and one thing only, while the rest was being whittled away. You hitched your star to abortion rights. And now, even as we speak, your own party is working against you to finish you off and marginalize Pretty Little You.

You have been pwnd. Congratulations! If they don’t succeed now, there’s always tomorrow. You all be sure and continue to support these gender warfare liars, okay?

Now suck it all down, girlz. Move your asses or get thee to the kitchen. Because that’s next. Roll up your sleeves, break some fingernails and get to work. You have a lot to do. Basically you have everything to do that was already done by the second wave feminists. You were given a gift that others worked very hard to give you, and you threw it all away. You’ve got 40 years of progress to take back and believe me it’s going to be WORK!

Terry O’Neill, the president of the National Organization of Women, was not happy to hear President Obama’s response when ABC News asked him about an amendment added to the House Democrats’ health care bill Saturday night that further restricts abortion services in both public and private insurance plans.

“He has passed health care for half the population and an anti-abortion bill for the rest of us,” O’Neill said.

She said she understood the president’s frustration in wanting to pass health care reform, but “it is not acceptable for him to achieve that goal by pushing women back into the back alleys to die.” And the anti-abortion amendment added to the health care reform legislation “does just that.”

Yup, you threw it all away, now YOU do the work. Have fun! Maybe Naomi can help out. She thinks hijab is oh so sexy! How about you, girlz?

Yup, it bears repeating. You thew it all away. If they don’t get you this time, it’s coming. A nice appointment of a Sharia guy named Koh to the SCOTUS would be a good start, don’t you think, girlz?

One more thing. Hillary would have never stood for this. You have to live with that now.

Hey Ms, do you still think Amy Siskind is a pain in the ass and Naomi Wolf is a feminist”? You sure? You be sure and do another cover of what a feminist looks like you hear?

Which woman was right in this video, Amy or Naomi. Take your time. I’ll wait.

Uh huh. Bet it doesn’t feel Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s now does it?

So, NOW…………who’s sorry NOW?

  • Ladydawnelle

People will believe what they WANT to believe.

    Amy gets my vote.
Naomi? the REST of the delusional FOLLYWOOD & DC Bubble dolts pffft.

They will believe what they WANT but the truth tends to slap you in the face regardless of what you BELIEVE!

LOL, I can see them now, scratching their heads in puzzlement as to “WTF just happened? how did we miss this?”

dee dee dee – this year it’s the stupee (punk driven) donkeys

    • http://powerandcontrol.blogspot.com/ M. Simon

If you go to the NRLC www site you can find House and Senate voting records on abortion.

Lots of Ds who are not ardent abortion foes voted for Stupak.

But you will get Nationalized Health Care.

      • Janis

No, I won’t. You will, though. Am I supposed to sit on the sidelines and lose health care to make sure someone else gets it?

I’m not getting a thing, sweetie. I’m getting stuff taken away.

    • FranSC

Uppity, you knocked it out of the park with this post! Thank you for reminding us and “them” how far we came just to have it virtually yanked away by our own gender and then freeing and encouraging men to feel justified in continuing sexism as usual.

  • I’m a Linda too

Great post Uppity. But I have to admit, I really want this to stay, because these folks so deserve it. Really. That I had to watch hateful extreme lefties propagating lies like “What did Hillary ever do for women”. WHAT? That one just slayed me. How much time do you have you ignorant sexist? I mean really, they knew, they just don’t mind lying for their own end. And their end wanted this sexist butt hole helping lead the way a woman who doesn’t want any other woman challenging her power.

Sorry, I won’t fight for them any more.

And, now, let me see a woman who wants to fight the same fight. What female Congress critter will fight to strip Vasectomies from health care legislation. After all, a Vasectomy is not “health care”. It has nothing to do with health. It’s actually qhite the opposite. Only a luxury procedure that can cost more with possible side effects.

Give me a woman that will make sure this AWFUL procedure, meant only to allow men freedom without consequences for improper behavior ( :D ) from using our tax dollars for such a procedure.

And now full circle. Hey Connie! My old boss was married to Connie. And just last night I heard the new duo, Beck and OReilly will be ?performing? at the Westbury Music Fair, and I thought about Connie when I heard that. That was a bad time that started a big life battle for Connie. Hope she’s doing well now.

    • I’m a Linda too

Oh, but wait, maybe those exteme left “Feminists” won’t mind so much. After all, they were preaching such meaningful arguments like, “look at how [Palin] treats salmon, she eats meat and hunts. But, Joe Biden is good looking”.

…I don’t want to be in THAT camp.

    • b mathews

what about them covering viagra??? it has nothing to do with healthcare but do you think all those men in the house and sentate would take that away? no, of course not but lets take away abortion for women. does anyone really think most women over 50 are thrilled by the idea that old men can have erections at will now? i doubt it. shows where their priorities are and its not women.

      • http://powerandcontrol.blogspot.com/ M. Simon

My old lady likes it. But I’m only 65. I don’t use Viagra. I use something Better Than Viagra.

      • I’m a Linda too

Yes, good observation. Correct you are. Will the ladies in Congress do something about this? We know the men won’t.

    • tek

Linda Too: Viagra isn’t healthcare either, but that’s covered.

      • I’m a Linda too

Well, doesn’t that say it all.

Ladies in Congress, you wanna get busy?

    • PIta

Hey, I’m a Linda too, Friday morning I wrote my Senators about excluding fertility treatments, vascetomies and impotency drugs from coverage if they plan on excluding abortion or any medical proceedure pertaining to women’s health.
Fertility treatments play with life on the same level as abortions, are expensive and usually require more than one try. It’s optional and is not required so much for health purposes but to satisfy someone’s DESIRE for children.

I agree about vascetomies. In some cases, impotency drugs are just allowing some men to go out to play beyond a rational child producing age.

  • obsp

I was waiting for this post. When I read that these groups were upset all I could think of was the endorsements they gave during the primaries. Who’s sorry now??? Thanks Uppity.

Yup, us old hippy wimmin folk knew we were being sold out, when they wouldn’t count Hillary’s VOTES!

There was never any question as to where Hillary stood on Women’s Rights are Human Rights.

    • http://noquarter foxyladi14

they threw the best one under the bus and we got the mud from the tires

    • FranSC

Not only did we know we were being sold out when Hillary’s votes were not being counted, but also when this idea was being perpetrated by women. Who can ever forget (or forgive)Alexis Herman, Chairwoman of the DNC Rules & By-laws Committee (May 29, 2008) who helped engineer the unprecedented give-a-way of HRC’s delegates, Donna Brazile, who traveled to states scheduled to have primaries and talked them into having caucuses instead, and SC Dem Party Chairwoman, Carol Fowler certifying that B0 met the Constitutional requirement of ‘Natural-Born- Citizen’ instead of having B0 himself make the certification. Fowler was following instructions from Nancy Pelosi who then certified the votes for the entire country and also answering the N-B-C qualification requirement herself instead of requiring the answer be sworn to by the ‘selected’ POTUS.

When you add the NOW, NARAL, MS. Magazine endorsements of this ‘Non-Feminist’, the crime goes far beyond merely not counting Hillary’s votes.

  • Janis

Can I just ask who in gawdz name ever thought this geeky, butt-ugly, jug-eared loser was sexy? Seriously? What the hell were those girl-Obots smoking anyhow? He is at best ordinary, at worst frankly sort of funny looking. And THAT was enough to get the girlies on “The View” practically ovulating on camera?

    How desperate ARE women nowdays?

    • obsp

I have only written a couple of checks since then and only to retire Hillary’s debt. Remember he was suppose to help her with that too. I will never give to NOW, NARAL or Emily’s list again in this life time. I was a supporter (maybe $500 annually), but not a penny in 2009.

      • Amae

Yes I can! Never support another Democratic woman as long as Obama is in office. Emily’s list is the only I have not cancelled. I’m staying on it simply to receive information. They will not get another contribution from me until they wake up and denounce Mr. Obama. Such a loser. We are all
sorry now. Thanks Uppity – that was done so well.

    • PIta

We need to have a PUMA party or a new independent party. I really don’t see either Republicans or Democrats supporting women’s issues or, let’s be real here, the interests of the general public.
We’re still looking at the same big issues year after year that we elect them to fix but every election the issues are more of the same.

  • Freedom Fighter

You women need to chill out. 2008 was a historic year for the nation and for African Americans. Hillary Clinton had already occupied the White House, it was time for an African American to do so. I am not sure how you can see misogyny in this. Women have made it, American college campuses now have many more women than men, and yet African Americans are still under-represented and discrimination against African Americans by college admissions is pandemic. There are more African American men in jail than in college. This is an effort to uplift and give African Americans a chance, not to oppress women. We, as progressive should all understand that.

    • Prime Obot

FF, what’s wrong with you? Don’t you get? Obama didn’t win the election; HRC really won it. Obama just out and out stole it. The entire Democratic Party and the mainstream media all conspired from the very beginning to steal the rightful nomination from Hillary and hand it to Obama because they were on his side all along.

Come on, this is NQ. Get with the program.

Oh, also: John McCain would have been a good president, and Sarah Palin is a great role model.

      • hc123

Hey, Prime Obot. Piss off. You are a boring grade D troll.

Freedom Fighter, you are ridiculous. The presidency doesn’t exist to “uplift African Americans”. Barack Obama is an amateur and a terrible president. This doesnt “uplift” anyone but our enemies. In fact his constant playing of the race card diminishes the accomplishments of competent minorities everywhere.

Go bow to some head of state somewhere and stop filling this blog with your drivel, both of you.

      • jbjd

On what basis did Nancy Pelosi, Chair of the 2008 DNC Convention, Certify to state election officials that BO was Constitutionally qualified for the job, to get these officials to print his name on the general election ballots in the states? (She refuses to tell us; my 9th graders said this means, she swore he was qualified before she checked. But then I told them, we asked DNC Secretary Alice Germond, her co-signer on these Certifications, using the FOIA. Ms. Germond gave these requests to DNC General Counsel Joseph Sandler. He told us, the DNC is not a public agency and so, cannot be compelled to release documents through the FOIA. And he, too, refused to disclose the basis for that Certification. Now, the kids gasped. ‘What do you think that means?’ They looked at me, wide-eyed. ‘That means, they DID CHECK; and he isn’t qualified!’

See, even 9th graders in inner-city schools who support the BO Presidency in theory know when someone is screwing around with their Constitution.

        • Prime Obot

Your thesis presupposes that the conservative media machine — Limbaugh, Hannity, Fox News, Beck, etc — either have ignored this story or looked into it and decided not to publicize it, despite finding the same evidence as you. Both theses are by their very nature absurd. Therefore, your thesis must be false.

          • PO’dVet

So you’re trying to claim that no one has questioned Obama’s eligibility? Are you really THAT stupid?!? The question has been asked, not once, but hundreds of times! Lawsuits have been filed and improperly dismissed without due cause by certain members of the Supreme Court. Get this through your thick head moron. Corrupt officials covering up the crimes of others by committing more crimes themselves….does not make any of it legal! The undeniable fact, that his school records from Harvard are still hidden despite his direct personal promise to make them available after election day over a full year ago. Should be evidence to even someone as dimwitted as you, that he is a lying sack of shit!

            • Prime Obot

Yes, the question has been raised by many people, and dismissed as lunacy by many others, including Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and Fox News, none of whom qualify as friends or protectors of the current President. So now you are hinging your arguments on the belief that Limbaugh, Hannity et al are protecting Obama despite the evidence, and that sitting members of the Supreme Court are also, for equally unfathomable reasons, in on the conspiracy?

              • jbjd

No, the question as to what was the basis for Certifying BO is a NBC has never been asked by these people; and saying this is so, does not make it so. Several lay people have asked NP on what basis she Certified BO is a NBC; she refused to answer. Several lay people asked Alice Germond, who passed on the requests to Joseph Sandler, who refused to answer. But so far, no well known media pundits and, certainly, no AG of any state in which the law requires the candidate whose name is submitted to appear to appear on the ballot, must be eligible for the job; has asked NP (or AG, or JS, or…) on what basis s/he certified BO was Constitutionally qualified for the job. (I am not saying he is unqualified; I only want to know, on what basis NP swore, he is. Because as you know from the Certifications of Nomination found on the internet, she absolutely swore, he is.)

              • goldengrahme

Oh, well said, Prime Robot…I am assuming you are serious and therefore, I defer to your wisdom. NOT! You saved me a lot of
                backtracking. Thanks.

Now read my keys: O’Bambi, Hannity, Rush,
Bill O’, et al. and the entire Dem Party
and judicial branch are playing the game.
That is why they are so handsomely “positively reinforced.”

                Come on–this isn’t rocket science; it’s
politics, for heaven’s sake! You scratch my back and me yours and we stay in power and claim our just rewards. The media
minions are but one part of the equation, a very crucial part. Turn off the TV.

I would like to see more mainstream
                (and alternative press) chatter regard
                TARP, derivatives, carbon tax scams,
the coming Dec. meet-up in Copenhagen,
the obvious H1N1 hoax, CODEX Alimentarius takeovers, and other really important issues. But that’s just me.

Think women and men should come together for global rights. If we fall under
the UN, WHO, IMF–the EU model, kiss all rights adios, including reproductive
freedom. As I say, politics rules. To
keep you uninformed is a soft-kill technique employed by the ruling elites. Willful ignorance is pathetic.

              • TeakWoodKite

the question has been raised by many people, and dismissed as lunacy by many others,

Obot, to you the world is flat as evedenced by calling it lunacy.

When BO stands before the American people with a peice of paper alledged to be his VAULT BC from Hawaii, then one more lie will hatched from the pie hole of BO.

There is none. He was not born in Hawaii and is not a NBC. What was the 14th amendment advanced by BO if he was an natural born US citizen?

it was time for an African American to do so

That is absolute racism you freaking lunatic! You know what it’s time for???? All you libby loonies to be locked up in an insane asylum. Since you hate America and freedom so much, get the F-ck out, and take that sexist, racist, America Hater in Chief and his creepy wife with you!!!! You can leave the kids here. Maybe there is still time to save them. Go find some communist country to live in! Fool!

An African American who is not qualified and doesn’t represent the majority of Americans is not helpful to African Americans! When there is finally a qualified, experienced AA who runs for President, they will be under the disaster shadow of Barack whos-cks Obama and have a real uphill battle! BHO is not helpful to any group of Americans!

      • Seriously Sick of Obama

HMMM..Hello..Obami has a WHITE Mommy, so technically, he is the first mixed race! Facts are terrible things, huh?

    • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

“Hillary Clinton had already occupied the White House, it was time for an African American to do so.”

Saying that a woman has already been in the White House because she was married to the president is like saying that African-Americans have been in the white house because one worked in the kitchen.

      That is utter BS.

Not to mention your “It was time” line of BS.

Why wasn’t it time for a Latino president? An Asian president? How about an Eskimo president or a Native American president?

I’m all for having more than old white men in power but not to the extent that I’ll vote just ANY ole person of color in just because they want the job.

    • TeakWoodKite

      You women

      ??? WTF???

There are more African American men in jail than in college.

I’ll go with Bill Cosby on this. And who’s is “we”??

Obots are really a manifestation of the Multi-Cultralism having run its course. It’s a pandemic.

    • http://! stodgie

freedom nonfighter dufus, you are embarrasing yourself with you pathetic platitudes that don’t address reality. LOOK WE ELECT A PRESIDENT REGARDLESS OF COLOR FOR ALL AMERICANS. HAVING SAID THAT now slunk off and don’t bother us again.

    • FrenchNail

Hey you media wh&&re, check your mailbox. The New Talking Points are in. No more race card: Overplaid. No more Progressive this, Progressive that: This is a BAD word. And no more sexism overt or otherwise: “THEY” don’t find it funny anymore.

Get with the program, you are obsolete FF. Party is over (punt intended)

    • Tex-Mex Soup

LOL at the stupidity that is freedom fighter.

So conveniently FORGETS that his dada barack was bore from a white women. Yup thats right, he came out of a white womans vagina!!

so he is only half African as his daddy was not American.

    • N. Lee

You have GOT to be kidding, right?

      • Tex-Mex Soup

are you talking to me N Lee?? If you are, no I am not kidding about what I said about this freedom fighter character on here. Why overlook the fact that obama is half white. Why is that always forgotten or never mentioned? AND his father was Kenyan not American. Whats the problem?

        • NomNomNom

it looks like N. Lee’s post is attached to FreedomFighter’s

        • Ellen D

It’s fine with me to overlook the fact that he is half white. I really don’t want to think I am connected to him in any way.

      • http://! stodgie

n lee, no we aren’t kidding. you dimwats are done for and thank goodness for that. i never thought i’d see suck a clueless group of fools in one place but dang it i sure did.

    • catherine

No you self-entitled dunce! It was time for a competent leader to occupy the White House and the only one was Hillary who just happened to be a woman and certainly not that rookie loser who just happens to be black.

POTUS is NOT an affirmative action job! But thank you for finally admitting what we already knew as to why so many voted for Barky. Geraldine Ferraro was right all along.

      • Unabashed Galt

We tried to warn the electorate, but they turned a blind eye and now the entire nation suffers.

    • Janis

“This is an effort to uplift and give African Americans a chance, not to oppress women.”

Congratulations — you just gave poor African American WOMEN thousand-dollar abortions.

But they aren’t REALLY black, are they? Just they means by which black people (meaning MEN) are reproduced.

      Kiss my bald, wop ass.

    • nan

Democracy is supposed to rule in this country, not someone’s arbitrary decision that it was time for an AA MALE. Why not trust democracy? Obama would have learned how to be president at her side and would have NATURALLY become president without cheating or crude behavior.

Hillary got more votes than Obama in the “Democratic”
primaries and would have been the nominee without all the cheating, which was Dem on Dem cheating.

    • Luis in Charge

FF, do you even know what “FF” means? How’s this? Go FF yourself, you tool.

    • tek

freedom: funny how he’s uplifting black men by bringing millions of Mexicans into the country illegally to take the jobs black men would otherwise have. Yah, great strategy.

And just so you know, it wasn’t anybody’s turn; it was the American people’s choice and the first “black president” who crowed about the lack of black people’s civil rights got in the WH by robbing millions of Americans of their votes!

But just keep thinking he’s a hero (and keep smoking that stuff).

      • Janis

And it’s funny how all those black MEN he’s uplifting didn’t feel the need to show any loyalty to black WOMEN by voting for Shirley Chisholm or Carol Moseley Braun when they were running. Black women have been running for president since the dawn of time. How many black men gave a shit? The word “zero” pops to mind.

    • Amalia

seriously? cause she was in the White House already? with her
husband? and that counts? and your vote for Obama was
cause of the high number of African American men in prison?
wow, I don’t like obama but I sure call that comment insulting.

face it, women got the vote 50 years after all men got the vote, when
men of color got the vote, and it was all about sexism then.

it’s all about sexism now. women who stood with Obama, shame
      on you.

    • Cooney

We are over 50% of the population, why are we always compared to AA. Besides what men in the world are forced to wear a Burka, and what men in the world white or black are stoned to death for having an affair. Get real Freedom Fighter, take a look at the world outside.

he’s probably one of those men locked up he looks at the world through metal bars!

    • Concerned

“2008 was a historic year for the nation and for African Americans.”

Does this mean in 2012 we’re going to elect a Hispanic for President? How about Chinese? Or Koreans, or Jews or the hundreds of minorities we have? When is it their historic time? What? They’re not getting one? Are YOU a racist? As a minority, just not of that particular denomination, I’ve always found the term “minority” American bloody derogatory.

“Hillary Clinton had already occupied the White House, it was time for an African American to do so.”

THAT’S SURELY THE BEST REASON TO ELECT A PRESIDENT!! SORRY I DIDN’T GET THE BLOODY MEMO!!!

“I am not sure how you can see misogyny in this. Women have made it, American college campuses now have many more women than men, and yet African Americans are still under-represented and discrimination against African Americans by college admissions is pandemic.”

BECAUSE THEY WERE GIVEN THE POSITIONS YEA?! LET’S IGNORE THINGS LIKE STUDYING HARD. THEY’RE STILL UNDER REPRESENTED BECAUSE WE JUST AREN’T GIVING THEM ENOUGH SPOTS!! OBVIOUSLY WE SHOULD JUST PRINT OUT DEGREES AND GIVE IT TO THEM LIKE WE DO WITH MONEY! WHY NOT?!! SURE BEATS LEARNING.

“There are more African American men in jail than in college.”

THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIRS I’M SURE. OBVIOUSLY THE SYSTEM FAILED THEM. THE MONEY QUEUES WERE TOO LONG SO THEY HAD TO ROB SOMEONE. HOW’S A MAN SUPPOSED TO LIVE? SERIOUSLY.

    • Jillie

“hillary clinton had already occupied the white house…”

that has got to be one of the stupidest statements i have ever read on this or any blog.

        Here here, Jillie!

Wrong thread Freedom Fighter. The f123edupedness of the misogyny applies to black women also, my momma, sisters, aunts, grandmother, etc. Put the race card back in your pocket cause Bawack aint’ gonna do jack shizit about your concerns for brothers. He aint’ done sh12 since he was a little bit. Too late.

    • Freedom Fighter

Purely fiction and wishful thinking on your part. African American women voted overwhelmingly (95%+) for Barack Obama, and I will wager even more will vote for him in 2012.

      • Janis

Then they deserve those thousand-dollar abortions.

Funny how you just don’t seem to give a crap for the quandary they are in, isn’t it? They’re happy, convenient little gambling chits for you, but you couldn’t give a rat’s ass for them. I guess when white boyz talk about how much they care about the cause of the black man, they really mean the black MAN. Black women are just black men’s property.

But when black women don’t even care about their own cause enough to vote in their own best interest, how can I expect white men to do?

      • http://! stodgie

dang nonfreedom dufus, still not taking those meds i see. you are a pathetic example of why we have to vote obummer out of the wh. what a pathetic excuse you are as an american voter. what a joke! no wonder the world is laughing at us with fools like you hanging around.

Well, I will say one thing: Obama is now uniting women from many previously-divergent avenues. Too bad it is under such tragic circumstances.

  • http://! stodgie

off topic but he just read obama doesn’t want congress holding hearings on ft hood. good luck with that obummer!

  • Frankie

We need a REAL feminist in the White House, like David Vitter!

  • Helen

Thank you for this article. I thought this at the time Gloria Steinem and the rest were lining up for Obama. When they stood quietly by when he and his campaign trashed Hillary, I decided to not vote for him because neither he nor the Democratic Party would protect roe v Wade. If they treated Hillary with such disrespect they had no interest in women’s rights. I would rather discuss abortion issues with Sarah Palin and hash them out with someone who understood the issue at a gut level. Although I don’t agree with her on many social issues, the way they demonized her told me that many so called feminists didn’t know what feminism about. Now let them do it over again. They kissed ass and found out what they got in return.

    • jbjd

If they treated Hillary with such disrespect they had no interest in women’s rights.

I say a variation of that to young women on the train/bus when the man with them does not give up his seat for an elderly woman. (How he treats HER is what he thinks of YOU.)

    • Janis

And Palin never once worked to limit abortion while she was governor of a damn big state. She could have, as strongly as she believes it’s a bad thing. But she didn’t.

She SAYS she’s pro-life, but in practice, she’s pro-choice. She flat-out stated it wasn’t her place to make Alaska pro-life, and she appointed two pro-choice people to the supreme court.

He SAYS he’s pro-choice (although he’s not REALLY, he’s just assumed to be since he has a D after his name), but acts pro-life.

And yet SHE’S the one who’s supposed to rip my abortion rights away from me!? She’s the Big Bad Scary Monster that all the feminists hate and ridicule?

      • trixta

        Well said, Janis!

Tricia — ditto. Looking at Obama’s record, I can’t imagine why anyone believed he cared about the rights of women, or AAs or GLBT, or anyone. He cared about his own advancement.

      Uppity, you rock! Great post.

  • ziggy

“If that happens, will you be smart enough to ask loudly, why is it that this amendment ever passed in the House in the first place?????”

Anyone who understands how hotly disputed bills get passed and how politics actually work already knows why an amendment ultimately destined for the trash can was allowed to stand in the House. This is known as strategy. Stupak was intended as a poison pill that would kill the healthcare reform bill, utilizing a tried and true wedge issue. It didn’t quite work out the way those who dropped it in the mix had planned. Instead, it gave cover democrats with pro-life constituants.

Does anyone actually believe McCain/Palin would have been the true champions of reproductive choice in particular and women’s rights in general?

    • Portia Elizabeth

Well, Ziggy, I attended a town hall meeting by McCain here in New Hampshire last July. Somebody asked him about that very issue. He stated then (as well as at other venues), that he would not try to change the status quo. Does that answer your question?

      • Frankie

He stated then (as well as at other venues), that he would not try to change the status quo. Does that answer your question?

It would be interesting to know who was on McCain’s short list of judicial nominees.

        • Scout

Well, that’s a moot point, isn’t it, since the House just gutted access to abortion and the pResident doesn’t give a d@mn about women’s rights to reproductive health care.

      • ziggy

I’ve generally liked John McCain, but had decidedly mixed feelings about just how much of the status quo I thought he probably wouldn’t try to change. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund gave him a zero lifetime rating on womens’ health and reproductive issues.

He didn’t support the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2007, as I recall. He also proposed the same wrongly-tilted tax cut scheme that we had during the Bush years. It was all a bit too much status quo for me.

        • http://powerandcontrol.blogspot.com/ M. Simon

Fortunately you now have Change You Can Believe In.

        • Portia Elizabeth

Ziggy — by status quo I was referring to Roe v. Wade. As Scout pointed out, it’s a moot point now, isn’t it?

        • Ani

Meanwhile, he paid the women more money on his staff than the men.

        • Jillie

that ‘wrongly-tilted tax cut’ is now gone…so, everyone, including the middle class, has to pay more. and those who were receiving bigger cuts are now cutting themselves…jobs, that is.

hope you are happy with the ‘rightly-tilted tax increase.’

    • lauraks

I don’t know before this charade we’ve endured at the expense of our daughters(and no not all baby boomer mothers were swooning over O so we don’t deserve this as uppity coherently detailed)who would have dreamed the democratic party would not be the champions of reproductive freedom. Give me a break! Pelosi et al out there in SF etc. couldn’t give a flying fig about the people who put her and them in office.Let’s not get into what McCain and Palin would have done because the people who should be respecting us DON’T.

The disillusionment I feel at literally not hearing from two of my closest friends for almost a year because they actually believe Obama is the answer and I do not now , did not during the campaign nor will I ever believe he is the answer.

So talk strategy all you want because I don’t care about those who don’t care about me and all women in this country.

      • Unabashed Galt

The disillusionment I feel at literally not hearing from two of my closest friends for almost a year because they actually believe Obama is the answer and I do not now , did not during the campaign nor will I ever believe he is the answer.

I pity your friends for their blindness to reality.

      • b mathews

i also have a friend who, during the primary, kept sending me all kinds of anti-obama stuff and dissed him at every chance. come election day SHE VOTED FOR HIM!!! when i asked her how come? her answer was ” because he was going to win anyway” some people shouldnt be allowed to vote. btw..she is still sending me anti-obama stuff.

      • tek

lauraks: this ain’t your daddy’s (or our) Democratic Party. Bunch of Manchurian Candidates. Every one of them should be impeached for treason.

      • IndianaDem

I had friends who obviously hated Obama, so I decided the best thing was not to talk with them about Obama. Even knowing my feelings were different they compulsively brought the topic up, sent me b.s. forwarded e mails, etc, then eventually stopped talking to me altogether when I failed to come around. That seems to be the usual pattern. I would have been perfectly happy simply agreeing to disagree and avoiding the subject.

        • Mia

I do not believe you. If so, what are you doing here?

        • TeakWoodKite

I would have been perfectly happy simply agreeing to disagree and avoiding the subject.

Gee, Nothing like sticking your head in the sand, is there? Tough not to get a visceral reaction when being LIED TO.

But that doesn’t bother you does it?

      • Cooney

Pelosi is Obama’s concubine, she exists to do his will and satisfy his needs, just watch her watch him when he speaks. Doesn’t take a psychic to see the her drool.

    • Uppity Woman

No I don’t think that of McCain/Palin at all. I voted for them because I thought Obama was worse. How bad did he have to look to me for me to vote for McCain? Just food for thought. It wasn’t a difficult choice either. I simply accurately deduced exactly how much Obama dislikes and disrespects women. It wasn’t hard at all. He did all the work for me, The Enabler that he was. I’ll just bet you joined right in with the fun too.

It doesn’t matter now Stupak made it to the floor. It matters that it made it to the floor at all. Even if it dies it is just another example of how the Democrats continue to scare the shit out of women to let those broads know how grateful they should be for their crumbs. They have been pulling that shit on us for decades. Furthermore, that amendment will stand if Obama needs it to pass his trash legislation. Then he will feign innocence, something he does quite often and quite badly.

And we appreciate how smart you are and how dumb we all are that you should know all about how the political system works and we shouldn’t—all without having a clue who we even are. You should leave home right now while you still know everything.

Truly you must be one of the boyz. No self-respecting woman would trivialize this like you just did. If they passed an amendment that ruled out covering anything to do with your dick or the two boys, fire would be shooting out of your eyes.

      • I’m a Linda too

And surely all these folks also ignored the fact that Obama paid the women in his office about .80 cents to their dollar.

And McCain paid his female counterparts to the male counterparts in his office, $1.04

Isn’t it funny how those real facts just smack ya in the face. And now, they just don’t understand all this from Barry? :(

    • Janis

Goddamn right it’s strategy. We ladeez learned it.

You shitcan the coathanger amendment, or your precious healthcare package goes right down the crapper.

It’s called hardball, asshole. Get used to it.

      • ziggy

A House fight over Stupak was exactly what healthcare reform opponents hoped for. That expected response was how the poison pill was supposed to work. Instead, the poison pill passed through the system without slowing anything else down, and it will ultimately wind up in the crapper anyway, as you so elegantly put it.

I suppose some temporary energy can be had out of the assertion that democrats have betrayed women by not stepping into so obvious a trap.

        • Janis

So they cannily and meanly forced Democraps to shit on women so … women would selfishly send the bill down the shitter because a healthcare bill is supposed to provide HEALTHCARE?

And GMAFB, it doesn’t provide shit to anyone, except poor dollars into rich OVERWHELMINGLY WHITE pockets anyhow. It DESERVES to go down the shit chute. We’s doin yallz a favor if it tanks.

          • ziggy

“…it doesn’t provide shit to anyone, except poor dollars into rich OVERWHELMINGLY WHITE pockets anyhow.”

If that’s the case, I wonder why it’s primarily those profit-driven special interests that are fighting it tooth and nail? My guess is that they’re mainly interested in the billions they’ve been extracting from an increasingly dysfunctional and increasingly unsustainable system, and realize someone has finally gotten dead serious about punching the reset button.

            • Jillie

do you include big pharma in those ‘special interests’ fighting this ‘tooth and nail?’

              • ziggy

Pharma support was won by extending patents on new drugs they develop to 12 years. This will increase their profits by protecting them from generic competitors for an additional 4 years, which should be an big research incentive.

The downside for them–and the upside for taxpayers and patients–is that HHS will be empowered to negotiate for lower prices for drugs covered by Medicare Part D. Negotiating for lower covered drug costs was specifically ruled out by the original Part D provisions.

                • TeakWoodKite

But Pharma, as it exists, will exist 12 years longer than the patent on the drug would allow for. That means that the beast will live in perpetuity. The flaw in your argument is that manipulating these conglomerates is not a valuable exercise, if Pharma is allowed to adapt unnaturally to being an arm of the Federal Government. ooops, I have that backwards.

When the drugs are all gone and the party is over, (again) we will be forced to purchase our drugs from a state controlled organ. Or smuggle them in from Canada. None will be made here in this country without a cut to the Capo.

        • Janis

BTW, I suppose I should tell you that the we’s and yallz I used was MY OWN DIALECT lest I be accused of being a racist.

    • jangles

No, but a whole bunch thought 0 and the Democrat Party would be.

      • jangles

Sorry this comment was supposed to be a reply to the ? about did anybody think McCain Palin would have supported women and choice. And to that I can only say not really but I certainly thought 0 and Dem party would at least pay lip service to it. But in the end I did vote for McCain because with a Dem congress and a Repub pres the issue was about 99% moot. (Now we know that the Dem congress would have sold us out long before McCain Palin could have.)

        • Janis

McCain and Palin wouldn’t have gone near it. We’d still be sitting where we were, and more vigilant. Under these chuckleheads we’ve got there now, we lost ground.

McCain and Palin would have been the better result. But people can’t think strategically.

  • Portia Elizabeth

Uppity Woman — thank you for this excellent piece! I hadn’t heard all the fuss from the outraged females who thought their party would represent their concerns. I find it amusing but painful to learn they’re angry now.

What I want to know is what went down at all those meetings at the BO White House? The heads of NARAL and NOW were on the list of most frequent visitors to BO’s office. Did they use their influence to betray women? Something’s rotten in the state of feminism.

    • Uppity Woman

Hi Portia. Good to see you.

The word “Feminism” was hijacked just like the word “Progressive” was hijacked by Regressives.

      • Portia Elizabeth

Exactly! They’ve joined all those other words that have lost all meaning, like “Democrat” and “racist” and “transparency”.

  • Unabashed Galt

Freedom Fighter, you do not combat racism, inequity and injustice by perpetrating acts of racism, sexism and injustice – that is, unless “the ends justify the means” for your stated goals. Your comment conveniently ignores the main point of the blog piece.

Calling yourself a “Freedom Fighter” does not make you for freedom, just as calling something the “Patriot Act” does not make the law patriotic, or calling legislation “Health Care Reform” does not guarantee any real reform will take place.

Sometimes I wonder if you are actually against Obama and the progressive movement. For example you are doing them no favors with your total lack of logical thought in your comment (2009-11-14 12:01:31). You are not doing them any favors FF, so by all means please do carry on.

Sadly, I used to identify as liberal/progressive, but lunatics have hijacked the movement in my opinion – just as they’ve hijacked the conservative movement. I will remain a centrist for the duration of this lifetime.

  • Unabashed Galt

Below is a comment I am posting for a fellow ex-progressive ex-Democrat who is now a black PUMA WONK.

    Comment by Freedom Fighter | 2009-11-14 12:01:31

You women need to chill out. 2008 was a historic year for the nation and for African Americans. Hillary Clinton had already occupied the White House, it was time for an African American to do so. I am not sure how you can see misogyny in this. Women have made it, American college campuses now have many more women than men, and yet African Americans are still under-represented and discrimination against African Americans by college admissions is pandemic. There are more African American men in jail than in college. This is an effort to uplift and give African Americans a chance, not to oppress women. We, as progressive should all understand that.

    Hey Freedom Fighter –

Thanks for your post! And what the hell are you talking about? Wake up and try to connect your three brain cells together. You failed to grasp the reality that the Democrats pushed a candidate who was not qualified, not a U.S. citizen, and had a long record of self-interest versus public interest. But hey, he’s a male, he’s black. Push the unqualified candidate and black people will think they are accepted, “have arrived” or as you said, “made it.”

Your comments are yet another reminder that as progressives, you negate personal responsibility. If we continue to blame society (aka “the man”) for what happens in our lives, we become victims. Do black people feel less victimized because “the man” is now black? Someone said one said that now that the president is black, the White House will turn black. Yeah right, just like pigs can fly.

Your concept of freedom is misconstrued. Women are “free” because there are more women in school than in jail? Or because there are more black women in school than in jail? Or because that there are more women in the world than men? Or because our misogynist culture values women for their surgical body alterations? Or because you don’t know what you’re talking about?

Freedom is for ALL people – winning at the expense of others is short term. And quick fix “solutions” are the status quo for this administration. Slap on some band aids because they are too lazy to thread the needle and suture the wound. Lincoln said that “Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.”

And in case you also missed this one: When there was a Clinton in the White House, we had a federal budget SURPLUS ($127 billion in the end of 2008), we had NEW JOBS, and we had a BULLISH STOCK MARKET. Hillary was right there honing her skills and learning to work both sides of the aisle. She was learning to make government work for the country. Hillary understood the importance of crafting her diplomatic and negotiating skills needed to sit at the desk in the Oval Office.

BTW, a Gallup poll (October 15, 2009) revealed that people favored Hillary (62%) over that person in the WH (56%).

You know, you actually had a compelling argument, until you drop in lies like this one:

You failed to grasp the reality that the Democrats pushed a candidate who was not qualified, not a U.S. citizen, and had a long record of self-interest versus public interest.

When will you guys learn that dragging birtherism into any of your anti-Obama screeds shuts off people’s eyes and ears?

      • Unabashed Galt

His eligibility to be president is still in question. I doubt the SCOTUS will have the courage to deal with it. Sad state of affairs! :(

        • Frankie

His eligibility to be president is still in question.

No, it’s not. You’re just unwilling to accept the truth, or unwilling to admit it.

Like I said before, you had a compelling argument. Well written. Well argued. Made a lot of good points. Got me thinking. Then you dragged in the citizenship nonsense. Blew your entire piece immediately.

It’s like a prosecutor who in closing to the jury, lays out the accused’ fingerprints on the murder weapon, eyewitness testimony to the crime, DNA evidence, motive, and then shouts “And he killed Bambi, too!”.

I doubt the SCOTUS will have the courage to deal with it.

Of course. Because they aren’t retarded.

          • Unabashed Galt

Like I said before, you had a compelling argument. Well written.

I did not write it. I posted it for someone else.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on the eligibility issue.

          • Uppity Woman

You fake intellectualism truly cracks me up. But I’ll bet you score high on the Narcissist scale just like your Barack does.

            • Unabashed Galt

He claims to like the comment overall, then proceeds to hone in one one point he disagrees with, then proceeds to state his mind is closed to the overall comment. There seems to be a logical disconnect here.

      • jbjd

Assuming there is a reasonable basis for Certifying, BO is Constitutionally qualified to be POTUS; can you come up with a reasonable explanation as to why, when asked, Nancy Pelosi, Alice Germond, Joseph Sandler, or Boyd Richie (the D state party Chair in TX, who signed the Certifications in that state), all have refused to answer this question. On what basis did you Certify to state election officials that BO is Constitutionally qualified for the job of POTUS, to get them to print his name on the state’s general election ballot?

      • ANHA

Say what you will Frankie. It’s the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about or touch. My argument is still compelling.

        A non-hyphenated American

        • yttik

Three cheers for non hyphenated Americans!

          • carlaforhillary

Glenn Beck was interesting last night. It is time for us all to be non-hyphenated. Growing up in my town back in PA people were Italian-American, Polish-American, irish-American etc. The Churches were separated by ethnic groups. The reason people identified themselves this way was because of their parents or grandparents coming over from Europe, etc. Black people were not called black people or African American. Race is just an illusion created first by the Eygtypians I think-as a way to define groups, and then later as a way to subjugate them. The time has come for us all to be American.

            • b mathews

i also saw that glen beck show and was very surprised at all the african americans who have turned on obama. they have finally realized that he is NOT looking out for their best interests. he throws them an occasional bone (like HANDING OUT MONEY IN DETROIT…by the way was that taxpayers money?). he also promised them money to supplement their utility bills when he passes cap and trade (also taxpayer money ) to keep them in line for his 2012 run. he treats the stimulus money like its personally his to do with whatever he chooses.(actually he looks so worn out and confused already in less than a year, that after hes done travelling the world on our dime,i’m not sure he’ll even want to run. and if his poll numbers continue in freefall , he wont want to be embarrassed by losing the next election.

              • Janis

You should read the Black Agenda Report. It’s not a right-wing or Republican site by ANY means. And they are PISSED OFF, and able to tell everyone why in excruciating, perfectly researched detail right down to the micron level.

          • Concerned

            Ditto :)

            Hip hip hooray!

      • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

Hey Frankie, prove beyond a doubt that Obama IS a natural born citizen. Show proof that hasn’t already been proven to be fake. Come on, if you have that information and it is absolutely irrefutable then you can unequivocally make that statement.

Until then, you’re just blowing smoke up your own wahzoo!

        • Portia Elizabeth

Buzz — I was thinking that, too. I’ll be happy to accept proof if anybody will ever show it. The real BC I mean, and not some cut-and-paste job that’s been proven a fake, and a bad one at that.

          • Janis

Sometimes I think they don’t want to show it to anyone because somewhere on it, it might say “Race: White.”

            • lorac

My BC doesn’t list the race of child.

              • Janis

Neither does mine — but is this a uniform thing?

                • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

Galt, it’s too bad you took that long “vacation”. But it’s great that you’re back. Great post.

      • Unabashed Galt

Hello Lorac. The post was something I posted for someone else.

Thanks. I decided after my voting rights were turned into dogshit during that sham “election” to take a long break. I stopped watching the news and was not active until just maybe a week ago.

        • Cindy

Galt—i sent you a “welcome back” comment, but it’s lost somewhere on this list of comments.
Anyway, good to read you again!

          • Unabashed Galt

            Thanks Cindy! :D

  • beachnan

Thanks Uppity. Agree 100% with your article. Unfortunately, the younger generation doesn’t have a clue of what life will be like without the rights the rest of us worked our asses off to secure. They listen to music that reduces them to one thing: a sex object. Many of them accept being slapped around by the guys they think love them. They take for granted the in roads their mothers and grandmothes fought for in the corporate world. Unfortunately, as we and Hillary found out, the glass ceiling is still there. The cover of Newsweek leaves me speechless. I just wish I had a subscripion, just so I could cancel it!!! Shame on anyone who still purchases that rag.

    • Ellen D

Something weird is going on with women even beyond this Obama fetish. My career daughter is hanging out with non-career friends because she is having her first child and wanted advice. To my horror the latest fashion appears to be marching backwards to washing your own cloth diapers, rejecting baby formula and one actually asked her if she was going to home school her child.
I don’t know how you are supposed to go back to being a pioneer and hold down a job at the same time. Young women now seem to be voluntarily restricting their lives with the dubious claim that it is better for the baby.
Sacrificing your life for your child is a bad concept in so many ways and certainly not what I fought feminist battles for. Is there something in the water?

      • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

The cloth diapers issues is environmental – plastic diapers truly are an environmental horror, so I don’t fault her on that one.

But my own sister is now homeschooling her kids (in a liberal way, not a Christian way). A friend of mine from high school got utterly obsessed with having a child. She told me she HAD to have one. Her Facebook name is the name of her child plus “mom” at the end of it, which creeps me out.

My friend seems to think if you aren’t totally obsessed and OCD with having a kid, you aren’t mean to be a parent. I think the opposite – if you are obsessed with having a kid, and you as a woman are subverting your entire identity into your child, and hers into yours, then you aren’t a better mother – you are playing out your own psychological neediness and crap on your kid.

Which does not mean I think my friend (or sister) are bad mothers, but I know that they are doing it because they have a big hole inside they want to fill, and kids are their answer. It’s easier to pop out a baby than deal with your emotional issues. Somehow, career doesn’t fill the void in the way a captive kid does, a little critter to shower you with unconditional love and meaning (at least during the first 10 years, before the pre-teen angst sets in).

Women are screwed up in this culture – there is a lot of self-hatred. Women are by and far the biggest consumers of anti-depressants too. I don’t have an answer…except to say, I’ll bet the pendulum will swing back when all these home schooled, helicopter mom kids grow up and rebel against the suffocation they got from their own mothers.

        • Janis

Yep. HAVING a baby may be a lot easier than dealing with your issues, but RAISING one sure ain’t. Those women are in for a big surprise.

      • Concerned

So you fought feminist battles so you could avoid sacrificing your life for your child?

I have to disagree with you here. If you aren’t prepared to give 100% for your child (male or female), you have NO BUSINESS having one.

For 1, it’s proven beyond ALL doubt that breast milk is far superior to formula. Not only does it improve resistance to many diseases it also helps prepare the newborn’s intestines etc etc…WHY WOULD YOU NOT GIVE THAT TO YOUR CHILD?

“Sacrificing your life for your child is a bad concept in so many ways” – Love is about giving. You can’t have your cake and eat it.

        • Janis

You can’t raise a human being if you relinquish your own humanity. Period.

My mom raised three of us, and did a bang-up job on it. And she was a complete person while she did it. Not in that self-actualized upper-crust garbage way, but in the working-class, pink-collar “she and my dad busted their asses on us” way. I saw them work like hell to raise us on a combined salary that would have been tight for only the two of them.

No, you NEVER give yourself 100% to your kids, or else you have nothing let for yourself. Physically, financially, sure. We came first. But my mom and dad stayed whole, entire people — they didn’t act like their entire worth as human beings was centered on vacuuming and handmaking our clothing.

You know why? Because only well-off people think that’s some sort of proof of wonderfulness. Only people to whom handmaking clothing and homeschooling is not a necessity can kid themselves that it’s some proof of worth. To people who actually have to work for a living, it’s just what you do. Handmade clothing wasn’t some trendy hipster proof of sustainable living to my mom when she was growing up, and it wouldn’t have been to us. It was what they did because they had to. Store-bought meant that they didn’t have to kill themselves sewing and darning all fucking night long. Try telling that to a kept SAHM with a husband with a fat salary and rich relatives who can tell herself what a happy little hobbit she is because she knitted a garter-stitch scarf.

Homeschooling? Please. And HOW does a family manage to do with only one salary, remind me again?

All this back-to-basics movement is a goddamned hobby for well-off people with family wealth behind them. The rest of us work for a living, and can’t afford to find spiritual fulfillment in macrame and square-foot gardening.

There’s a BIG difference between planting a garden because you saw it in some cute sustainable living magazine and pulling up the fiddlehead ferns between your house and the highway to fry up because otherwise it’s a one course meal. Ask THOSE people whether they’d define their self-worth according to those fiddlehead ferns.

Any woman who defines her self-worth according to homemade diapers, homemade baby food, breast milk, and homemade everything else is a woman with the leisure time and money to do all that stuff, and who can’t think of a single other thing to define herself with. Motherhood may be the basic animal, but if you want to raise your kids with a real sense of themselves, you’d better be more than an animal.

        • Janis

You can’t raise a human being by giving up what makes YOU a human being. Motherhood may be the basic animal, but if your kids are going to have any sense of themselves, you’d better be more than an animal.

Only the well-off with husbands with fat salaries and family wealth behind them can kid themselves to making everything from scratch, homeschooling, and growing all of their food is anything but backbreaking. Growing organic peas behind your house in an enormous backyard with a square-foot garden setup that you got from a glossy sustainable living magazine is NOT the same as pulling up the fiddlehead ferns between your house and the highway because otherwise it’s going to be a one-course meal. And while the first family may be able to kid itself that it’s self-worth is determined by those organic peas, I’ll tell you right now that the second family doesn’t define it’s wonderfulness and willingness to sacrifice by those fiddleheads.

Only someone who has never had to stay up all night darning handmade hand-me-down clothes because they couldn’t afford store-bought can kid themselves that they’re the best parents in the world for hand knitting a scarf.

“Sacrificing” isn’t romantic. It’s fucking hard work, and my parents had to fight like hell to retain themselves and their own humanity and interests in the face of raising three kids on a combined salary that would have been a stretch for just them.

These women who defend breast-only, handmade clothes, and handmade baby food are like Marie Antoinette who used to dress up as a shepherdess and playact at being a peasant. They have no idea what it means to really depend on that stuff because you have no choice. My parents did.

          • Concerned

I’m not rich and I don’t plan to have alot of children I can’t afford to have. But that’s not the point.

Further, I’m not talking abt handmade clothes and handmade baby food just to be chic…but c’mon breast milk? There is so much goodness in breast milk (and it’s free! + helps you lose weight + bonding) I can’t believe anyone would equate the feminist movement with denying your child breast milk.

That can’t be right. I know sacrificing isn’t romantic, and it shouldn’t be. But you know what? I’ll bet you’re alot closer to your parents then all the latchkey kids. Look what wealth did for them? Bet you all they want is time with their parents.

        • Janis

          Sorry, dupe comment …

          • Ellen D

Thanks, Janis. I agree with you.

As for the diaper situation, my sister in Canada tells me they use biodegradable diapers up there and put them in the green bin. Sounds OK with me.

            And thank you “Concerned” for:

You can’t have your cake and eat it.

Actually, I did. I had a great couple of kids who are now my best friends as adults and I had a successful and fulfilling career.

I don’t think my kids noticed they were bottle fed and the youngest one went to “Baby School” at 6 months – the oldest one went at 3 years after being looked after in the daytime by his grandmother. They continued on in outside schools until they graduated college.

I had a great time and my kids turned out fine. I’m just afraid these new mothers are moving backwards. There just seems to be enormous peer pressure now to wash your own diapers and breast feed which is impossible for most working mothers. The idea that any new mother should feel guilty and think that they are a bad mother because they aren’t involved with their children in every area 24 hours a day is just nuts.

The women who do this stuff aren’t Mothers, they’re Smothers.

      • Margaret

Well, young women today are having a love affair with their own oppression, the more severe the better, because it allows them to feel “cool” and no sacrifice is too great to remain part of the kool-aid crowd.

  • Unabashed Galt

Uppity, I was thinking of you yesterday. Since my return to the blog a short time ago I had not seen you around. I’m very pleased to see you around and thanks for the excellent post! :)

UW, in retrospect, doesn’t Naomi Wolf sound naive and uninformed? And insipid, hinting TNA and Amy Siskind, in expressing disdain for what she characterizes as Obama hero-worship, front for “right-wing” ideologues (“right-wing is skillful at funding voices of dissent…”)

    • Ellen D

Someone sent me her book on the evils of advertising and branding. It’s ironic that she didn’t realize she was sucked in by the biggest promotion of a brand in the last 50 years.

  • Eastan McNeal

My fear – and I feel that in your point-on rant here – is that the bots have not learned anything. Obama starts his “cut the domestic budget” tour next week and he will be hailed as a budget cutter. Same thing with gender equality. He will make a woman overture before 2010 and all the fem bots will come flocking back, crying “oh, how could we ever have doubted you?” I am getting emails from the local Dems heralding Obama for how brilliant his Stupak move was for women. “Get this health care bill (which is “wink” really women friendly) past the evil woman-hating GOP and then strip out Stupak at the last minute.” That email came from a local feminist. It has started. The underground digital reformation of O with women. The FemBots will fall for it and, Uppity, we will have to get out of our rockers and carry that water again. I just hope we are not singing “there’s a hole in my bucket..”

    • yttik

Some people really have learned nothing, but some things have changed. NOW has a new president.

I remember when Obama took the family planning funds out of the stimulus bill within days of taking office. So called feminists from NARAL to NOW and even Planned Parenthood were busy spinning ridiculous excuses for him. I’m not hearing anymore bizarre explanations about how he’s just playing 11 dimensional chess.

      • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

NOW’s new president has a huge mess to clean up. Years of it. I wish her luck. I wonder what Gandy’s doing? Maybe some nice speaking engagements and contracts compliments of the “New” Democratic party?

        • Senneth

          Hey Uppity,
Email me and I’ll be happy to share with you what Gandy is doing. It’s not pretty. Ugh.

Eastan I’m not going to do a thing. I just want the popcorn concession. I’m not hauling these dumbbells’ water for them. It’s time they grew up and did their own damned work.

      • Arabella Trefoil

I agree. Plus, dumbness water is heavier than regular water. My back is strong, but it ain’t that strong.

I stand at the ready with my rubber gloves, my bucket, my mop and my PineSol ready to start cleaning up the mess when people start getting serious about it.

  • MrMike

Just wondering, what happened to don’t feed the trolls after going thru the Freedom fighter detour.
I don’t know how certification works but if it includes documentation that BHO was nominated after due process following party rules including that the selection process in the state primaries and caucuses was done honestly, he could be in trouble.
Other than that the only recourse we have is Patrick Fitzgerald finding something the House Dems can’t ignore.
I look at the MS magazine cover and think what a shame you guys got in that fight with Joe Cannon over techdude wacky birth certificate stuff.

    • lorac

I would vote for a “don’t feed the trolls” rule. If everyone ignored them, I’m certain they wouldn’t hang out here. They keep coming back because they can get people to take the bait, and they are enabled to hijack the threads.

      • Janis

Nope. If everyone ignored them, they’d just come in here and shit with their mouths open any time they wanted, and TAKE OVER.

One thing works: banning. “Just ignore them and they’ll go away” NEVER WORKS.

        • Scout

I was just about to say this after reading the comments: DON’T feed the trolls.

It’s a waste of everyone’s time and energy.

MrMike, it’s just plain fun to play with dependents pushing 30 who pretend to be upscale on their parents’ supplements. I can’t help myself. It keeps them off the streets while they play at the computer their parents bought and laughingly await some CEO telling them he wants them to be Lord of Their Company.

  • Unabashed Galt

The “don’t feed the trolls” rule never seems to work. I think its human nature to respond.

This is one the best post’s I’ve ever read, Uppity. Sorry that you had to write it actually.

A friend of mine actually uttered the words “I can’t wait to see what Barack does for women.”

Also, the Daily Kos is boycotting the DNC. Wow. I never would have thought that would have happened.

    Thank you again.

Yes, Janis, I have as well. And some family members who continue to be irrational – I only talk infrequently to them. When I think of all the decades of work done by we, the activists, trying to get passage of bills and to keep those rights in place, to be tossed aside by the younger generation – and they don’t even know what they’ve done is painful. Like Uppity, I will do very little except watch the parade with popcorn and milk duds.

  • I’m a Linda too

OMG, see, these groups just weren’t hip to the real mission. It’s all about Barry and feeding is ego. He still carries a big chip from his young life and his remake has not gone as he hoped.

..Obama, “I’m the first Pacific President”.

    OMG..can they just keep him?

    • Luis in Charge

They (the Pacific) can keep him. I’m still waiting for the first real AA president. Thomas Sowell in 2012. (It will take a fiscal conservative to even begin to clean up this mess.)

Oh what a pleasant surprise to log in on a Saturday and see a post again from Uppity, and a good one at that.

The word betrayal doesn’t even begin to describe what these feminist (and I use that word loosely) organizations are guilty of.

  • Seriously Sick of Obama

I have nothing to add to this article…IT IS PERFECTION..THE COLD HARD TRUTH…all points hit and pounded into the face of all the women who voted for this Man-Child in Chief!! THIS IS YOUR BEST ARTICLE TO DATE!! Uppity Woman..YOU ARE MY HERO!!

    • lauraks

      I agree.

  • Animal Control

Naomi didn’t answer the question “Is Obama a feminist”?

    Hummmm, wonder why?

  • tek

Heck, they don’t need women anymore in Democratic Party, after next year they’ll have 100 million new hispanic voters! The instant new majority vote. You women served your purpose to get The One in office, now the D. C. Democrats don’t give a rat’s a** about you.

    • lorac

It makes me really angry. We just did this 20 or so years ago, and in that short time, there are millions and millions more illegal immigrants. What’s the point of giving them all amnesty AGAIN when our borders aren’t sealed? We’ll just be doing this every 20 years, and then what’s the point of legal immigration? There are quotas for immigration, and South America already has higher ones than European nations. All this uncontrolled (and then rewarded) illegal immigration is just going to cause a lot of problems, IMO.

    • beebop

No female Hispanics? How odd …

      • Janis

Of course not. Just like there are no female black people.

At least to hear Democraps and black MEN talk. Black women lined up out of some false sense of loyalty to black men to vote for Barky, who just handed his poorer black sisters thousand-dollar abortions. They said they couldn’t look their sons in the eye if they didn’t vote for him. Now, let them look their daughters in the eye.

And I keep asking myself how many black MEN felt any loyalty at all to their equally black sisters and daughters, and voted for Shirley Chisholm or Carol Moseley Braun. I’m guessing … ZERO.

      • beachnan

beebop-where have you been? Uppity is here, and galt, and now beebop. Fabulous!!!

On the downside I think NQ lost Ferd. I read a comment he was upset with the spam filter and was leaving. Not sure but it appears Katmoon left with him?

I have no way of knowing, but I’m going to summarize they both needed a break. I obviously know all about needing a break, having taken a massive one after the sham “election” sapped my essence and impurified my precious bodily fluids. :D

Naomi, your definition of Christmas Hanukkah and New Year’s came in 1992, when Bill Clinton was elected, or don’t you remember the days when women actually had lots of leadership roles in the cabinet. welcome to retro props to women, where a speechwriter can grope a cardboard cutout of a woman who nearly became the nominee of her party, and where boyz play basketball and don’t invite women, while they talk about healthcare and apparently don’t think that keeping at least the status quo on reproductive choice is mandatory. Amy Siskind schooled you in that CNN spot.

Uppity Woman, you totally ROCK!!!!!! this is a keeper column, one to be shared with the women of the troops we must assemble to defend the encroachment on our liberty.

    • thetownecrier

      Indeed, a keeper post, Uppity.

  • Doc99

No worries – I’m quite sure they’ll blame the whole abortion debacle on Palin.

    • yttik

I am prochoice and I was a Dem my whole life up until the primary last yr, but I voted for Palin and I’ll do it again.

Tell you the truth, I think she’d be so busy trying to reign in corruption and out of control spending, she wouldn’t bother with abortion. Also there’s the unintended consequence of a Republican presidency, Dems and women actually get off their ass to protest things instead of rolling over because the guy in the white house is so dreamy and playing some sort of 11 dimensional chess game that will become clear to us as soon as he finishes repealing all our rights.

And to tell you the truth, abortion is a non negotiable demand that has existed for thousands of years. It doesn’t belong to a political party and it is not bestowed upon us at the whim of some politician.

      • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

It doesn’t belong to a political party and it is not bestowed upon us at the whim of some politician.

Unfortunately, politicians pimping for votes don’t understand that and it will continue unless and until pro choice women show them all where the bear goes in the buckwheat by withholding their votes altogether UNTIL we are SHOWN that they support the law. Not TOLD. SHOWN.

I’m not voting for anybody who has SHOWN me nothing.

    • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

To be honest, the crickets coming from Sarah Palin regarding the Stupak amendment reminds us and makes it fairly easy to understand that she isn’t exactly our great hope either. If we are willing to skewer our own party over this treatment, surely you can’t imagine we will all be running to her camp when we can expect the same. Just saying.

I will always defend Sarah Palin when I see sexism and misgogyny heaped upon her, as I will defend any woman, but I will never embrace a far right and particularly a religious right agenda. I suspect I am nowhere near alone with this thought.

When it comes to women’s rights the Republican and Democratic parties both truly suck.

      • Unabashed Galt

It’s so sad that in a country with so much talent the only choices we seem to get are lesser of evils. Sometimes I wonder if it would be nice to be a koolaid drinker or ditto head and live in blissful ignorance, then I read some of their comments here and realize I am better off suffering and knowing.

        • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

Thanks for reminding me why I always enjoyed your comments, Galt.

          • Unabashed Galt

            You’re entirely welcome. :D

I have a colorful addendum to me previous comment:

Our political parties are akin to having the choice of a small dog or a large cat as to which animal poops on our rug.

            • Ellen D

Our political parties are akin to having the choice of a small dog or a large cat as to which animal poops on our rug.

Is that why both parties are represented by animals?

        • alibe

They are not even lesser evils anymore.

      • yttik

The two parties do suck, especially when it comes to womens rights. I genuinely like Palin, her heart and soul and her fighting spirit. We don’t even know if Palin is going to run, so it’s a mute point right now, but I think I am feeling what a lot of people are feeling, which doesn’t bode well for the Dem party. People are wanting to hear some pride in country instead of apologies. They want to feel good about themselves, instead of hearing about all the evils and greed in the country. And even though I am strongly prochoice, I find myself much more comfortable with Palin’s respect for life rather then Rahm’s brother’s ideas about zero population, and the cost effectiveness of human beings.

      • abycat

I would not expect her to comment on it. She has commented on the entire bill and opposes it. Why would she wade into what is Democrat political infighting? It is not her battle to fight.

        • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

She has commented on the entire bill and opposes it.

Of course she does. SHe’s a far right social conservative and prefers that there be no reform at all, just like during the last 15 years when Republicans had plenty of time to come up with something sensible. But nope. You guys gave us Barack Obama, do you realize that? People were fed up with the status quo and the middle class being screwed left and right. So now we are screwed again by the other extreme.

I’ll wager that the Stupak amendment is the ONLY thing she approves of in that bill. Come on, let’s not pretend. Sarah is anti choice. So of course we didn’t hear from her on this issue. If she were outraged she would have been yelling about it. SHe’s had no problem objecting to other things in that bill specifically.

You all make me sick. Both sides. We are constantly forced to pick between one side or extremist crackpots or the other.

You want our votes? Then change. Or get your votes someplace else. That’s also what the Independents are telling you, and they seem to be growing in numbers such that they already outnumber the Republican party, and are coming damned close to the Democrat’s numbers.

I’m not giving my vote to anybody who wants to subjugate women. And I’m not giving it to anybody who keeps fighting the Law for their religious views either. That leaves out both parties. I’ll stay home first.

          • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

I used “You” in the generic, not specifically towards you. Just wanted to add that.

      • Janis

I’m not sure … Palin never once touched abortion rights when she was governor in Alaska. She’d actually be better than what we have now. She says she pro-life and acts pro-choice. I’ll take that over someone who says they’re pro-choice (or doesn’t really say anything but we just assume they are because of the D after their name) and acts pro-life. Palin is better than what we have now.

      • trixta

It’s interesting though that then Gov Palin appointed a woman pro-choice judge over a woman anti-abortion judge last year. I don’t think Palin is as unyielding as some think.

Clinton would look forward to coffee with Palin.

n an interview for broadcast Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Clinton says she’s never met the one-time GOP vice presidential hopeful and former Alaska governor and thinks it would be very interesting to sit down and talk with her.

Clinton was responding to a question about a passage in Palin’s new book. Palin writes that if she and Clinton ever meet for coffee, “I know that we would fundamentally disagree on many issues.” But Palin says, “my hat is off to her hard work on the 2008 campaign trail.”

    I’ll supply the coffee!

  • Doc99

In a related matter, is George Soros ssetting up Hillary Clinton?

According to the documents, George Soros’ Open Society Policy Center pays the annual salary of the NIAC staffer who heads the Campaign for a New Policy on Iran, according to an email among NIAC officials. And the minutes of a series of meetings including NIAC and other coalition members offer a glimpse of the strategy and tactics involved in the push for a rapprochement with the Islamic Republic, from an attempt to undermine the appointment of Dennis Ross as Iran envoy to a planned “Send Hillary to Iran” campaign.

It’d be nice if one so-called journalist would begin to connect all the dots involving George Soros. Any takers?

    • Doc99

Forgot the Hat Tip to Armed Liberal at WindsofChange.net for this tidbit on Soros. Props!

    • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

      Dear Doc,
Do you even slightly realize how obvious you are?

    • mary soros

George Soros is the one who financed Obummers Campaign to begin with.

From pulling the deceased’s golden teeth as teenager in Poland and selling them for a profit, this educated neanderthal, woman-hater and Obama-lover is the most dangerously WEALTHY man in the world.

Why did he finance and back Obummer all the way?

Soros’ corporate interests comprise pipeline projects in Afghanistan circumventing Iran/China. In fact, the reason OBUMMER WENT TO AFGHANISTAN and started a new war (his own Vietnam) and has spent 200 billion to date and created 3.5 million refugees, mostly widows and crippled orphans in Af-Pak–the reason is that Soros wants to use the American Army and private co’ contractors (paid by the American taxpayers) as protectors of his pipelines. What more convenient way than to finance this Moron?
Soros is a dangerous Wealthy guy who does not care about American Imperialism. He cares about making money from the pipelines leading to the Caspian. Afghanistan is perfect for this. But the Taliban and the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan spoil Soros’ devious planning and DumbObama’s War project.

Why do you think Obummer went gung ho in Afgani land? He had an obligation to this financial masters. And WHO ENGINEERED THE WALL STREET MELTDOWN? Obama would not have won. McCain would capture the votes if Soros’ interests did not interfere to cause the Disaster at that particular time!

  • gadem

If I could write worth a damn this is the article I would have written. As a 61 year old card-carrying lifelong Democrat who pulled Republican levers a year ago and am still trying to get over it I’m reminded of an outburst of mine to some co-workers several weeks ago. I had been hearing them moan and complain about how BO is bankrupting this nation for our children and how their college student kids were going to spend the rest of their lives paying for this mistake. I could take it no longer; I told them the youth vote all went for BO in the election so now it was only fair that they pay for what they bought.

    • Docelder

There are consequences and a price to be paid for everything we do. Nothing is free. All the government giveaways whether it is fat contracts to supporters of free benefits for illegal alien supporters… all of this has to be paid for by somebody. I don’t think the Chinese are our rich uncles. The bill will come soon enough. Change is a euphemism for “rice and beans”. I hope college kids like rice and beans. I mean really, really like them a lot.

      • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

……and after the week of working at the job the government tells you to do, those rice and beans won’t go very far.

    • Janis

AGREED — trendy hipster college children are the ones who built that gallows. They SHOULD be the ones to swing from it if there’s any justice.

Otherwise? Get to cleaning up your mess, children. That’s what being a grown-up means: coping with the consequences of your own goddamned choices. Unfortunately, all of us who knew better and were shouted down also have to cope with them. Thanks. A LOT.

    • thetownecrier

Yes, it is frustrating listening to those with buyer’s remorse. Especially when they have given off the impression they are rationale adults who could have discerned better, but for some bizarre reason or other(s), threw themselves under the bus in support of what the DNC annointed.

You reap what you sow. And all those yet to come will bear the responsibiity of fixing the problems borne from the attitude of arrogance, misogyny, disrespect, hypocrisy, in the hope and change “throw caution to the wind” wishful thinking, that got the prized Manchurian candidate selected.

Trouble is, everyone else has to pay for THEIR poor decision-making skills. History will record the facts accordingly, and they will not be favorable. It isn’t looking so good so far.

      • leslie

        tcc~
It is even more frustrating to know there are still many who do not have buyers’ remorse. Unfortunately, that is where many of my family remain – with their a$$es planted firmly in Ozer0ville. I cannot even begin to tell you what it is like to hear very bright people say that they keep “The Audacity of Hope” on their nightstand. And say it with that glazed over look of people still drinking the proverbial koolaid.
it is frightening to me that people that I love are staying so oblivious to the truth.

  • I’m a Linda too

Well, I guess Hillary is correct. She said the rumor of her running for NY Gov is dead. And then added,

Clinton said, “an extraordinarily important time to be secretary of state for our country.”

Yes Hillary, I would have to agree with you. Putting your country first and rescuing us from this Obamao Nation is important. Thank you.

  • glennmcgahee

I thaqn No Quarter and Larry for allowing differing views, etc. I’m unaware of anyone being banned for comments unlike other sites – Huffington Post, KOS, TPM, Demo… Underground and others. BUT, I’m sick to death of engaging Freedom Fighter in every single post that gets written. Does everyone realize by now that he hijacks every thread and everyone tends to engage the lunatic over and over again. Can we try to just “not feed the animals(obots)” so that the discussion remains an intelligent, rational exchange instead of listening and responding to the same thing over and over. It gets weary, not to mention boring with nothing of value discussed.

    • Unabashed Galt

It gets weary, not to mention boring with nothing of value discussed.

Actually I beg to differ. Did you read the excellent comment by “A non-hyphenated American? It was entirely inspired by that mis-self-identified “Freedom Fighter” the walking contradiction. He did not even respond, unless a sock-puppet of hers/his did. :D

      • lorac

Galt, I agree that sometimes the responses to trolls are very good. Maybe you haven’t seen it since you’ve been back, but often all that happens is some people just start insulting them, and then there is post after post after post of back and forth flaming – all insult, no substance. I have to say I get really tired of having to scroll through all them. I just don’t get the point of it.

        • Unabashed Galt

Baby / bathwater axiom applies. :D

          • lorac

Galt, you went over my head. I’m throwing the baby out with the bathwater? Are you saying that putting up with the higher number of back and forth flaming responses is worth the occassional good response to a troll? (responses which we all already know are true, and which probably won’t change the bots’ thinking?)

            • Unabashed Galt

Are you saying that putting up with the higher number of back and forth flaming responses is worth the occassional good response to a troll?

Yes. I skim over the flaming.

Let me ask you this: what do you see as an option to stopping the flaming? Short of banning folks, I don’t see one. And no, I am not suggesting you are promoting banning.

              • lorac

Well, I always wish people would just ignore them. Partly because I don’t enjoy seeing all the back and forth venom, but also because I think, without the negative attention, the bots would lose interest. But people have different opinions on whether that would actually happen.

And you’re right, I don’t advocate banning, because I like hearing different opinions. Plus, there are people (like ziggy) who agree with some things but not with others – I wouldn’t want people banned just because they don’t agree with every single thing (there would probably only be 4 people left, and I wouldn’t be one of them!)

But it seems like you can often tell, just by their posts or their history, that they’re just trying to inflame – they’re not really trying to have a dialog. And that’s what I wish would be ignored. I don’t have a problem not fighting with them, but I do have to remind myself to take my own advice and totally ignore them.

Or how about this – a magical “fighting tab” – just click on the tab button, and go straight to the well-meaning posts, and skip the trouble-makers without having to skim! lol

                • Unabashed Galt

I agree with your general sentiment.

I said it in January, and I’ll say it again – I would LOVE to square up one on one with Wolf on any station and discuss what her POV.

It would be great for CNN to show this video and then have an open discussion now wouldn’t it!

Uppity, it appears your post was a giant bot magnet.

Makes me wonder if misogyny is ingrained in the bots on a deep subconscious level just as it is in their Sith Lord master’s?

UW, you causing trouble on Larry’s board? My bad….you are absolutely just speaking the TRUTH!

    As always very well said!

Freedom Fighter…for real? You said that? Geesh!

UW…thanks for the compliment on your board. I can’t understand how some who have Mothers, Sisters, Aunts, Friends, etc. can believe that Obama has done anything for those we most treasure. What he has done is turn the clock back to the 50s and 60s.

Makes me sad and very angry! 2012 can’t come soon enough!

Keep telling it like it is.

    “Women’s Rights Are Human Rights.”

A husband took revenge on his wife by killing his little daughter and burying her in a forest. A man who lived with the wife of his son killed her daughter, his own granddaughter, put her little body in a suitcase and threw it into Tel Aviv’s Yarkon river. A son who quarreled with his wife killed her and her mother, cut up both bodies and dispersed the parts in garbage bins. A young man who had a quarrel with his mother killed her, and then went off to kill his brother, too. A man in his 70s killed his wife in her sleep with a hammer.

Note the relative proportions on female corpses versus male …

If they hate each other so much, why don’t just shoot each other and solve everyone’s problem?

    “Oh shit,I think I started a women’s Jihad!”

Absolutely brilliant. I remember every day, every month clearly. Hillary was supposed to sit down, STFU, and go AWAY. Be careful what you wish for, chumps!
