An Observation:

Thanks to PPM for sending this cartoon to me via a political humor site. I wish I could credit the cartoonist, but can’t make out the fine print under the name “John Cole.” John Cole, wherever you are, this is great cartooning!

  • OBSP

Just got in from the office and saw that I had no phone messages, but 10 new calls, all but 2 were from DNC or BO asking for money. Please someone tell me how many ways can you tell them to KMA (kiss my a_s).

    • Carol

I think you should offer $2300 and then ask them to hold on a minute while you get your cc. Then give them a series of numbers and then get accidentally disconnected. Do this several times. They should then get the message.

      • HARP

Better yet. Offer $2300 and then ask them to hold on because someone is at the door. Put the phone down and let them wait forever. Time wasted that could be spent annoying other PUMAS.

      • mahaska

Yeah w/o the last 4 numbers.

    • Clinton Fan

They keep sending us pleading envelopes that go straight to the shredder. I haven’t noticed any phone calls, yet…I’m sure they’ll get round to that soon enough.

You could always tell them that you’re a Yellow Dog Democrat, and you’ll vote for a Yellow Dog if it’s a registered Democrat…but you won’t vote for a misogynistic assclown who pretends to be a Democrat while walking, talking and VOTING (FISA) like a Republican. And yeah, they can kiss your ass, too!

    • vinnie

Saying NO to them while they read the script really messes them up. I got 3 calls already. I basically told them to take me off their list, and that for every call I get from them now, I will donate to McCain and send them my receipt. Wonder if that was clear enough.

      • misspeach2008

Be sure you use one of their postage paid envelopes to send the receipts.

      • mahaska

Put yhem on hold or just lay down the phone. Tell them you’re getting your cc and keep yelling out I’m still looking or be there in a sec.

        • csuzeq

Use one of those air horns into the phone or put it right next to a stereo speaker, turn the volume to highest and turn it on!

    • Joel

I simply kept responding with Bite me Obama. After about 20 times, they stopped sending me their crap.

    • shirley Beverly

if your name is on the national do not call list and you tell them more than once not to call i thought they had to pay some sort of fine would be a quick way to drain their money lol

This is a terrific cartoon–I am glad to see more Teflon-peeling from political cartoonists and media commentators. It’s about time!!!

    • IndayHill

Pat, please, continue your political caricatures/cartoons. Thanks for sharing your talent & skill.
I agree with you that people react better to political satires, like the recent one of New Yorker.
It speaks louder than fine prints.

Also, I would be happy to donate to a vets org. or an orginazation of your chosing, just to commission a rendition of BO’s CRAP CANNON.

The story link above is Denver’s plan to make the homeless “disappear” during the convention. It is not clear who is behind this (Secret Service, Denver officials, DNC) but if I were running for president I’d go talk to some of the homeless outside the convention. Yes, I suppose some of the more mentally ill ones may need some protection from the crowds — but they need help 365 days a year. This seems to be the routine in lots of countries — spray paint walls to clean up and flush the streets — and get rid of all troubling images. It should not be done in the U.S.A.

My main point — the Democratic Party should not be a partner in this enterprise — it should not allow ills in our society to be whitewashed.

Got this item from Wonkette — a snarky site with often sophomoric humor, but they really expose a lot of good stories over there.

    • mahaska

Bus ticket to Chicago? They can go stay on lower Wacker Drive.

    • TeakwoodKite

How many of them are vets?

      katmandu, Thanks for the link.

Did this jump out to anybody else from his foreign policy speech this morning – Obama decries messiness of the Wild West – lists it as one of four major threats we’ve endured:

“From the oppression of an empire to the lawlessness of the frontier; from the bombs that fell on Pearl Harbor to the threat of nuclear annihilation – Americans have adapted to the threats posed by an ever-changing world.”

I swear, he’s a top-down guy with so-called young grassroots volunteers (AKA Stalin youth) giving him the look of a bottom-up populist. No no, he likes “streamlined” “unity” “efficient” “message control” and hates “lawlessness of the frontier”. He can’t handle populism. He needs control.

Please tell me I’m wrong, he’s not referring to our frontier “lawlessness of the frontier” right? He lists the four threats in chronological order: 1) Britain (“oppression of an empire”), 2) westward expansion (“lawlessness of the frontier”), 3) WWII (“bombs that fell on Pearl Harbor”) and 4) Soviet Union (“threat of nuclaer annihilation”). His inner conflict shows itself again – just as he wishes to purge the whiteness from his own person, one of the four major threats to our country WAS our country.

    • mahaska

A guy from chi talking about the lawlessness of the frontier?

      • AF catfish

I think he’s saying we should have stuck with the 13 colonies, and never annexed California in the first place.

        • mahaska

It would have been a lot easier on the Native Americans. And Cal would be so nice and quiet.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State is a worthy organization that fights to uphold the First Amendment. One of their bloggers discusses (and links to) James Madison’s 1822 letter stating that such separation was working well in the new government; both government and religion were flourishing. Obama’s young advisers should read this letter for some historical teachings.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), son of the one-time presidential contender, said Obama’s victory overwhelmed him.

“I cried all night. I’m going to be crying for the next four years,” he said. “What Barack Obama has accomplished is the single most extraordinary event that has occurred in the 232 years of the nation’s political history. … The event itself is so extraordinary that another chapter could be added to the Bible to chronicle its significance.”

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Spike Lee says the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s crudely phrased criticism of Barack Obama won’t affect the Democrat’s campaign, which the filmmaker expects to succeed at bringing “seismic” change to the world.

Lee predicted Obama would be elected in November.

“When that happens, it will change everything. … You’ll have to measure time by `Before Obama’ and `After Obama,”‘ Lee said during the panel. “It’s an exciting time to be alive now.”

The presidency of the first African-American will ripple throughout arts, sports and more, said Lee, whose films include “Malclom X” and “Do the Right Thing.”

“Everything’s going to be affected by this seismic change in the universe,” he said.
    …………………..
JJr who wanted the bible section on Obama is saying naughty things? Hmmmmm…

    • Joe

Jesse Jackson Jr. is a putz.

      • mahaska

There is a word in my Yiddish dictionary that is so rude nobody calls anybody by it. But I’m thinking it, JJ jr.

I object, there is no proof he said that and no transcript and that isn’t the Huffingtonpost. Now, lets leave Jesse Jackson alone. Proof please.

Other sources are reporting Jackaon said Obama was talking down to blacks calling them the N word not
    Obama.

  • PamFlorida

There is more to this story than we are hearing. Rev. Jackson has always stood up for his beliefs, no matter what the consequences were. You can bet he had good reason to be ticked off at Obama.
