Tina Brown’s Sad, So So Sad Late Nite Open Thread

Here’s Tina Brown’s lament for The One’s visit to China on today’s MSNBC Morning Joe, transcribed by moi:

It’s sad that Obama can’t say anything about dissidents when he goes to China. It’s sad that he can’t raise anything. You know, he just has to go there and suck up.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Geeeeeeeeeeeez. That is so sad.

Re: Tina Brown’s remarks: is that any worse than Chris Matthews saying, (sending letters to al Quaeda) “that’s not a crime is it?” I mean, jeeeeezus. Did he actually effin say that??? Well … uh … Chris … actually, it is a crime, especially when the person sending the letter is a US military officer. Jeeezus what HAS that a-hole been smokin’ lately?
And Tina … ummmm … you did know that our great great grandchildren are now indebted to the Chinese for the next …oh … say 100 years? When you owe that much, you don’t get to make the rules. You have to ummmmm well … suck up.

Couple Busted for Refusing to Pay Tip

Patrons claim service was so bad, they had to get napkins and silverware for themselves
    By DAVID CHANG
Updated 12:20 PM EST, Thu, Nov 19, 2009

If you’re frustrated by poor service at a restaurant, think twice before you decide to not tip. You may be in for a bit more than just a dirty look from the waiter.

“Nobody, nobody wants to be forced to pay a tip or be arrested for terrible service,” Leslie Pope said when her happy hour ended in handcuffs.

Pope and John Wagner were hauled away by police and charged with theft for not paying the mandatory 18 percent gratuity totaling $16 after eating at the Lehigh Pub in Bethlehem, Pa. with six friends.

I hope those arrested file suit for false imprisonment! Those cops could have issued a summons rather than the overly dramatic and senseless handcuffs routine. What has this world come to? I’m truly perplexed!

Sounds like another example of -entitlement without the work- that is so popular right now.

Poor, down trodden wait person, das restaurant SS vil make sure you get you fair part of das wealth distribution.

  • **== SUPER GALT **==

If you read the entire story, it mentions some employee called the cops. Only a petty asshole would ever do such a thing, if the facts in the story are correct. I hope that establishment is sued as well, if there is a legal basis to.

  • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

I doubt there is a law that compels people to pay tips for bad service. But, it’s a crazy world right now. Next thing, we’ll be signing contracts agreeing to pay before being served.

The cops should have let this go.

  • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

    …fighting all the american citizens…

    You got that right.

  • **== SUPER GALT **==

The cops should have let this go.

Absolutely, or as I pointed out, issue a summons and not arrest the poor folks.

It is very sad that the best we could do as a country is to send an invertebrate to champion our cause.

These links will be of interest to all of you, I think. It looks like the Washington Post has fallen off the Obama bandwagon, and Congress too.

This link has Congress calling for Geithner to resign because he doesn’t know what the hell he is doing. It also has a nice whine by the Black Caucus about how the first AA president isn’t doing enough for black people. Hell, he isn’t doing enough for any of the rest of us, either.

Then there is Dana Milbank pointing out that the “transparency” in Obama’s administration is opaque. The first opening paragraphs are stunning..at least they were to me.

As the first congressional investigation of the Fort Hood massacre began Thursday, a curious collection of witnesses assembled in the committee room.

There was Fran Townsend, White House homeland security adviser — to President George W. Bush. There was Jack Keane, vice chief of staff of the Army — during the Clinton and Bush administrations. And there was Juan Carlos Zarate, a deputy national security adviser — in the Bush White House.

Conspicuously absent: anyone from the Obama administration. They declined a request for their testimony by Joe Lieberman, chairman of the Senate homeland security committee.

Of course, Eugene Robinson is always ready to back up Obama, no matter what he does.

The jihadist narrative is largely about justice, or rather what radical imams and their followers perceive as injustice.

That is just some of the drivel he comes up with in backing the decision to try KSM in NYC.

Just thought I would drop these in for your perusal, and I hope the spam monster doesn’t eat this comment too. All of my comments seem to end up in the spam filter, only to emerge a day or so later, if then.

Anybody catch the mail hacking story at University of East Anglia… one of the homes of climate change “research” and “science”? Well on the bright side… Al Gore can eat as much beef as he wants and keep his jet. Here is one of the emails apparently.

    Dear Ray, Mike and Malcolm,

Once Tim’s got a diagram here we’ll send that either later today or first thing tomorrow. I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd [sic] from1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline. Mike’s series got the annual land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999 for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.

    Thanks for the comments, Ray.

    Cheers, Phil

This was no longer “science” if it ever was. Global warming had become more of a religion. I hope people go to jail over this…not just the hacker either. Lives have been literally ruined because of this scam… perhaps the largest scam ever perpetrated against mankind to date.

And there is this. It just keeps coming. Can Californians watch the super bowl on big screens again? Pretty please maybe? Can we have real energy independence now? Maybe drill more into the North Slope? Pretty please? With sugar on it?

places that have mandatory tips have this fact written on the menu. the couple knew the tip was mandatory before they ordered. when their service was poor they should have called over a manager and asked that the mandatory tip be waived.
an .18 gratuity that equals $16 means their freaking dinner cost $88.888. awww my heart bleeds for the poor little f#ckers. they had to get their own napkins. and silverware! maybe they should have called MEchelle and asked to borrow a spoon.

not saying I agree with mandatory tips, I don’t. solution: go somewhere else that doesn’t have them.

  • Onofre’s arm

Doc, since 1989 when James Hansen pulled the concept of man-made global warming out of his ass, there has been constant pressure to collect and exaggerate data that supported warming trends, and ignore or manipulate data that showed no such warming. The radical environmental movement was infiltrated with far left idiologues and misanthropes, and they were searching for a cause that would sound plausible to a scientifically myopic public, and could be based almost entirely on manipulated evidence, and scary but nebulous predictions. Recently, a rapidly growing skeptical scientific community has now firmly established a more credible bulwark on the issue. It’s a bulwark that deceitful jerks like Al Gore refuse to acknowledge or confront, because his whole for-profit crusade would be dismantled by the mounting evidence that contradicts almost all of his claims. And many of his charts, graghics, photos and films would be exposed as fakes, and outright lies. Many of them have already been proven as fraudulent.

If one were to calculate the economic and sociological damage caused by Al Gore and his phony and fraudulent global warming campaign, it would dwarf the 60 billion dollar swindle of Bernie Madoff. And it would be justifiable for Al Gore to go down as one of history’s greatest criminals.

    warning gun owners in Illinois
…”The law requires mental health care providers to report patients that are deemed a threat to themselves or society to the Illinois State Police (ISP) but the new law has taken an unexpected twist.
The ISRA has learned that during certain hospital admission procedures a short interview with a Psychologist maybe part of the admissions process.

The admittance process that triggers an interview with a psychologist may include stress, alcohol treatment or other scenarios.

These seemingly innocent hospital knock and talk interviews are being used by the ISP as a disqualifier for gun ownership.

The ISRA has learned of gun owners being sent notices from the ISP that their FOID card has been revoked after a visit to the hospital.”
