Senate Cloture Vote Thread [Updated]

I had a big report all ready to share with you, but it got lost in the server upgrade. Cutting to the chase: You can watch the vote LIVE on Fox News TV (and on-line) or on C-Span TV (or on-line). I see that Blanche and Mary have caved, so it may be a done deal. But, I’m looking forward to Fox’s observations as the vote goes on. (The conversation is good.)

Update: In lieu of my missing story, let’s see what John Batchelor has to say in “Hunt for 60,” reprinted in full below the fold:

A peculiar cliff-hanger on Saturday 21 in the Senate that takes more sentences to explain than it takes to say that it come to very little.

Red Line on December 4.

wildTurkey.jpg

Will Harry Reid find the 59th and 60th vote to move his healthcare bill to debate after Thanksgiving? It comes to Joe Lieberman, who can be agreeably contrary when he chooses.

Yet does it signify?

Nancy Pelosi and Herry Reid have turned the healthcare bill into a game of bumper cars. Once upon a time, it was about cost-savings and public insurance plans. But that was before the jobs number went over the cliff.

After Thanksgiving, the week of November 30, is also when we will get the November jobs number.

Health care? Who has patience for that song?

If that jobless numbers climbs toward the 1982 high of 10.8%, the Senate and the House will get out of Washington as soon as the Christmas tree is lit on the White House lawn. POTUS has called a Jobs Summit at the White House for Thursday December 3. The next morning, Friday December 4, at 830 am Eastern Time, is the red line for healthcare reform and the 111th Congress.

Is it fate or is it a coincidence that Sarah Palin will be signing books at Fort Hood on Friday December 4 — in a media blackout as designed by the US Army for anxiety that her event will become a political circus. Who is the 60th vote? It’s what happens on December 4th that is the 60th vote.

I will speak to my professionals all weekend re healthcare, but eyes are on the prize two weeks from now, after the turkey is pardoned, the last mercy in DC if the jobless number touches 10.8.

  • HARP

Congratulations Tinkerbell. You have finally completed turning the Senate into Chicago politics.

  • Prime Obot

This health care bill will succeed despite the utterly pathetic, juvenile, pointless GOP. And so will a second stimulus package to encourage job creation in 2010.

  • Bronwyn’s Harbor

Did you see/hear Blanche Lincoln today? She was CHOKING on her words. She was clearly terrified. Somehow they got to her and are forcing her to vote. Even though she was stammering that she will not vote for the final bill, it was pathetic — and she knew it — that she would not stand up to Harry and Barry.

  • AF catfish

Wow. Wonder if some Chicago characters got to her.

  • hattip

Prime, you are projeting. This Bolshevik attempt to take over the medical system is what is “juvinile”–infantile would be more like.

The GOP is trying to save this nation from a bill that would destroy us. If you were an adult, if you were a self releinat, hard working American who resepected those qulities, you would be out their rooting for the GOP. Instead, you want your “entitlements” which are really “rewards” that you have not earned.

It will destroy us. It will mean that the USA becomes another corrupt, sociasy third world pigsty like Mexico.
Go down there and see what the PRI has wrought down there the last 90 years or so.

Grow up. Stop thinking that you are entitled to a standard of living that you have not earned, and that you have the right to impoverish the rest of us in order to steal that lifestyle from decent and hard working people who have earned what they pay for.

  • Donna Brazile

    You’ll need it since you’re a freeloader!

Are we paying for all the prime Obutts as well?

Stop the give me free money fest!

  • Bronwyn’s Harbor

    Test.

    Try not to fail.

  • Docelder

Carternomics for the 21st century. All we need now are gas lines. No doubt people are working on that. Crisis upon crises. That is all there is.

  • Seriously Sick of Obama

The fix is in, those that could be bought were bought, any hidden secrets that could blackmail any member of the senate has been done, so why bother to even go through the lying chatter on cspan, they already know who they blackmailed and that they have the votes or this scam would not be going on!! JUST DISGUSTED!!!

  • tomcj

For so many of you Obama haters, if Obama does NOT get a Bill, you call him a “weakling” and a “Jimmy Carter Clone”. If Obama DOES get a Bill, he is a “Thug” and a “Dictator”.

That is a somewhat neat trick. However, such “Heads we win, Tails, Obama loses” thinking is not simply formulaic (and therefor lazy) but also the defeatist ideology of losers. People who lose train themselves to get the last word.

While Obama’s enemies are all saying “Oh, yeah!” and congratulating themselves that there only cults are the cult of The Clintons, or of Hillary, or of Sarah, life is sailing along without you qute nicely.

  • Bronwyn’s Harbor

HERE IT IS. Let’s see if there are any honest Senators left.

  • Docelder

    Where’s the jobs?

  • TeakWoodKite

    PBot,
Malheureusement, vous croyez que votre liberté invincible. Un sénateur américain vous vendu pour trente pièces d’argent et vendu vos enfants dans une vie de servitude tyrannique.

  • jangles

    Pyrrhic victory comes to mind.

  • Bronwyn’s Harbor

I can make out just enough words to know that that is not a very positive remark about our Congress and President. Why, Teak!!!

  • Docelder

Yes, winning the battle and in so doing losing the war. Ask Bill. He knows it is about the economy. Where’s the jobs? As the democrats slap each others backs and spend another trillion and raise taxes for something we won’t see anything from for years… people continue to lose jobs. Where’s the jobs? Democrats are tone deaf and arrogant. Where’s the jobs?

  • Seriously Sick of Obama

Well, I think I just seen 60 job openings in 2010 on CSPAN, LOL!

  • TeakWoodKite

Bronwyn’s Harbor, since the English language has taken on a very jarring tenor in the halls of Congress, I figured I would learn French, as it has a a better sound when describing the betryal of a US senator.

Unfortunately, you believe that your freedom invincible. A U.S. Senator you sold for thirty pieces of silver and sold your children into a life of tyrannical servitude.

This health care bill will succeed despite the utterly pathetic, juvenile, pointless GOP. And so will a second stimulus package to encourage job creation in 2010.

The first stimulus was supposed to keep unemployment under 8 percent this year.

You are the juvenile thinking that “winning” a failed law equates to sound public policy and fiscal responsibility.

  • **== SUPER GALT **==

For so many of you Obama haters

You are projecting. Most here do not hate anyone. Apparently you hate anyone who won’t march in goose step to your fuhrer with you. Ain’t never gonna happen.

Ware a wire when these thugs talk to you and then call FOX

  • Prime Obot

Me, a freeloader? Ha. If only. I’m a top-bracket homeowner in California. I pay as high a % of my income in taxes as pretty much anyone other than maybe a Manhattanite.

Haven’t you figured out yet that it’s the liberal blue-state collectivists who pay lots of taxes, and the conservative red-state “individualists” who collect all our tax money in social services?

  • olivia1998

Harry Reid stands spills out that crap and he has no idea whats in that bill. The communist in the white house wrote it.

  • Georgia

To those senators that said they were merely voting for debate and not the final bill…. when you dance with the devil, you better bring a long spoon!

  • Gabi Lange

Blanche LIncoln: I wonder what her incentive was? Mary Landrieu got 100 Million for her vote? Sen. Blanche is in trouble with her home folks.
Terrified of Reid? Well, also no backbone or principles either.
Hope Harry goes down big time in Nevada next year. Looks possible.

  • Hank

Obama and his puppets have known they have had the 60 votes and will have them at the end. All they are doing is Bull Shitting everyone that certain democrats are having second thoughts. That’s exacting what the Pelosi’s people did and that is what Reid’s people are doing. They are just messing with us, to make us think they are having problems getting the votes to pass this bull shit bill.

  • lorac

I don’t think Obama knows how to write policy, olivia. Seriously.

  • hokma

According to the FoxNews Opinion Poll over 60% of Independents are opposed to the House and Senate health overhaul bills.

Nearly all elected people who work inside the beltway of D.C. are out of touch with their constituents and frankly don’t care what they think.

They only care about what their own political party thinks and satisfying their major campaign donors.

I am still reading the actual bill and as the years go on it’s effects will get worse in terms of taking control of all healthcare and the dramatic increase in taxes that will hit middle class Americans.

Short term, this is already a job killer. Companies – large and small – are not hiring people because of the effect healthcare costs will have on each new employee.

Yet you hear the same lies and the same mantra from these elected officials and the poor excuses of news media who are just aping those lines.

  • **== SUPER GALT **==

    Good point, lorac.

  • jbjd

In January 2009, then DNC Counsel Bob Bauer, defending client BO in Hollister, another lawsuit aimed at exposing his Constitutional qualification for POTUS, submitted his usual Motion to Dismiss. Only this time, presumably trying to end the constant barrage of such suit, he took advantage of this opportunity to add a footnote asking the judge to take judicial notice of evidence tending to establish at least the fact, his client was born in HI. That is, he wrote Annenberg Political Fact Check noted a “contemporaneous” newspaper birth announcement indicating BO was born in HI. In fact, APFC had merely posted on their blog a phantom computer image which they admitted they had grabbed off of td’s blog, posted there by an anonymous commenter. But if BB had been able to bamboozle the court then, he could have perverted judicial notice that APFC ‘noted’ BO was born in HI; into the meme, the federal court has now ruled, BO was born in HI. And that lie would have silenced much of the opposition. Lucky for us, the federal court did not take such notice; lucky for BB, the judge never inquired as to where is this announcement, or what is the name of the newspaper. Because such “lack of candor to the tribunal” could cost BB his license to practice.

Question: Why was BB willing to risk his license to practice in order to stave off future attacks against his client’s qualifications for POTUS by attempting to trick the court into taking judicial notice of a phantom computer screen image; but not submit to the court the official DNC Certification of Nomination that BO is Constitutionally qualified for the job of POTUS, which document was signed and sworn to by Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, acting in a non-governmental role as Chair of the 2008 DNC Convention, and then submitted to election officials in dozens of states to get his name printed on the general election ballot?

Answer: Because Nancy Pelosi’s Certification is also bogus but, she is his client, too, and he could not exonerate one client facing a civil lawsuit by incriminating another in criminal election fraud.

Carter Defends Handling of Botched Iran Crisis.

.CHIANG MAI, Thailand — Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said Monday he has no regrets about his handling of the Iran hostage crisis more than 30 years ago, saying he didn’t attack the country as his advisers proposed because thousands of people would have died”
“My main advisers insisted that I should attack Iran,” he said. “I could have destroyed Iran with my weaponry. But I felt in the process it was likely the hostages’ lives would be lost, and I didn’t want to kill 20,000 Iranians. So I didn’t attack.”

From an email making the rounds.

    Let me get this straight.

…we’re going to pass a health care plan
written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn’t understand it,
passed by a Congress that hasn’t read it but exempts themselves from it,
to be signed by a president that also hasn’t read it and who smokes,
with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn’t pay his taxes,
all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese,
and financed by a country that’s nearly broke.

    What could possibly go wrong?

  • Docelder

Not only was Carter the worst US President of all time… he has been also the worst ex-President of all time. But, I think Carter will be displaced from both of these titles. I personally think he already has lost the active worst President title.

  • Seriously Sick of Obama

Drudge reporting this..I SAID it bf the vote and imagine my non shock at reading this…Staffers on Capitol Hill were calling it the Louisiana Purchase.

On the eve of Saturday’s showdown in the Senate over health-care reform, Democratic leaders still hadn’t secured the support of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), one of the 60 votes needed to keep the legislation alive. The wavering lawmaker was offered a sweetener: at least $100 million in extra federal money for her home state.

And so it came to pass that Landrieu walked onto the Senate floor midafternoon Saturday to announce her aye vote — and to trumpet the financial “fix” she had arranged for Louisiana. “I am not going to be defensive,” she declared. “And it’s not a $100 million fix. It’s a $300 million fix.”

  • Prime Obot

You are precisely, 100% wrong, which is what one comes to expect from a conservative Republican.

    1. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that both the Senate and House versions of the Bill will shave many billions from the deficit within a decade.

    2. I’ll almost certainly never use the public option; I work for a very good company and have a very good health plan that protects my family very well and which I will almost certainly never lose. I want this bill because I want America not to go bankrupt.

A third-world pigsty like Mexico? Because we adopt public health insurance like Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Germany, Japan and so on? They are all third-world pigstys? Not quite. They all have longer life expectancies and spend less money on health per capita than the U.S.

Grow up and get a worldview based on facts, not fantasy.

  • NomNomNom

facts are things that have actually occurred or can be proven. fantasy is pretending what you want to happen has already happened.

  • Prime Obot

Yes, exactly. The facts, which have already happened in dozens of countries over a period of decades, are that every single country on this planet that has a national health care system provides better health care for less money than the United States. This is according to the World Health Organization. The fantasy, which has not yet happened, is that the Democratic health plan will turn America into a third world pigsty. That is sheerest Republican fantasy, and it will almost certainly be proved false in the years to come.

  • NomNomNom

we are not proposing anything remotely similar to those countries’ plans: we are proposing a massive subsidying of insurance companies, including jailing people who can’t pay
I don’t think they do that in Europe.

  • TeakWoodKite

You are precisely, 100% wrong, which is what one comes to expect from a conservative Republican.

ROLF !!! HA! oops That is funny.

  • FranSC

Well, yeah. Mary won’t have much trouble being re-elected to the Senate so her ‘bribe’ was a gift of $100M to her state of LA. Blanche is in a tough re-election in AR and was no doubt threatened that if she didn’t vote ‘yes’ tonight, they would find somebody to run against her or she would receive no help or money for her campaign. This congressional money is huge and carries a big stick.

It was reported this week that there was one AA in the Black Congressional Caucus that voted ‘no’ on the house bill. Jesse Jackson, Jr., the resident racist in the congress asked him, “How can a black man vote no for healthcare?” JJJ is the snake himself who finds opponents to run against such people. That was his job in 2008 as well. That’s how he got super delegates like John Lewis who were committed to Hillary to switch over to 0zer0. They were scared to death of this little weasel.

  • Prime Obot

Ah, so you’re suggesting that health reform won’t work *unless* it includes a true public option? Excellent! I’m inclined to agree, at least to a degree (though even a botched Senate version that lacks a public option will contain many positive steps forward). Welcome to the minority of opinion at NQ, where most people consider the public option evil, awful “socialism” that will destroy America.

  • Revolution 2010

My guess is, if you were a top-shelf california liberal you may have been in the room when Obama showed his hand in SanFran last year.

You Obots think you know what’s right for the rest of the country–unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be too many economists or accountants over there. (Hence the clueless economic policies and lack of concern for joblessness by this administration. Obama did say change was going to be painful, didn’t he?)

    1. The CBO–even if well-intentioned, has been wrong in estimating the costs of many programs in the past, including Medicare and Social Security estimates (which are quickly on their way to insolvency). The Dems are doing a little creative accounting. The taxes begin in 2010 but the “Health care reform” doesn’t begin until well past Obama’s second term. The cost would actually be 2.5 TRILLION–liars or dolts are all the libs on the senate floor.

The “savings” is on the backs of senior citizens (have you helped a senior select their healthcare or are you just a mindless dolt? AARP now stands to profit with their “medigap insurance policies” with the end of Medicare advantage. How about those “cuts” proposed by Congress? Don’t have a senior on Medicare, do you?

The “savings” is on the back of the only industry that is currently growing–healthcare. It requires a lower standard of living for all of those in the industry–including doctors who already pay huge malpractice premiums and have student loans. How many people want to become doctors after this? The AMA sold out on its small portion of physician constituents. All because they get a huge subsidy from the government for CPT and diagnostic coding systems. What happened to reforms to tort reform? I have to say, for the time being, Obama is protecting his base–which includes the trial lawyers.

    2. “I’ll almost certainly never use the public option; I work for a very good company and have a very good health plan that protects my family very well and which I will almost certainly never lose. I want this bill because I want America not to go bankrupt.”
Haha. The joke will be on you when your “very good company” dumps you into the public system. If you don’t understand how, you don’t know much about employee benefit systems. Let me know when you’re flying to Europe to pay for a life-saving treatment not authorized by the US government and panel of “unbiased” bureaucrats trying to save some money. Congress has very good reason for exempting itself from any of the changes that will be imposed upon the ENTIRE US population. You’ve been watching too much Maddow and Olberman.

“A third-world pigsty like Mexico?” “They all have longer life expectancies and spend less money on health per capita than the U.S.” Longer life expectancies? They spend less “per capita” because of rationed care and how often do you hear of scientific breakthroughs in the US versus Europe? Listen to Robert Reich who assured potential voters that we won’t live as long as the previous generation because we won’t be on the cutting-edge of research in healthcare any more. (need a link? You post yours and I’ll post mine.)

“Grow up and get a worldview based on facts, not fantasy.”

Get your head out of the clouds and get with reality. This farse will come back to haunt those inflicting this damage upon us. By that time, none of those who voted for this monstrosity will be in Congress by the time the American people REALLY become outraged. Hopefully people will have long memories.

By the way, I’m tired of hearing how the “insurance industry” is the big, bad guy. They make about 3% profit as it is, and that is because they are trying to get the best price for services rendered to remain afloat. Now, if you go to business school you will understand how this all works. This isn’t the pie-in-the-sky utopia you think it is, this is the real world. This legislation (as well as many others, including cap and trade) will further pile on the hurting and overworked American people.

You Obots are clueless. If you hated this country, why didn’t you just pack your bags and move to one of those other countries?

PS–you brag about your share of “taxes”–again, clueless. The libs think that you have to tax to death the American public for good things to be done. Apparently, charity has to be enforced upon you stingy lot rather than allowing people to choose the charity of their choice. If you don’t believe me, check out charitable contributions of conservatives vs liberals in Congress.

Really–you Obots are the most uneducated or dishonest lot there is.

  • **== SUPER GALT **==

I share many conservative ideals as well as liberal ideals. So I suppose I am a centrist/moderate. Whatever.

The problem comes with the political parties, as both tend not to practice the ideology that they preach – think GOP “less government spending” ideology versus Bush II spending – think Dems “pro-choice” for women yet they rigged the general election for a man.

As it stands now, the GOP is the lesser of evils and can hopefully restore some balance in 2010 – an imperfect solution at best.

Liberal versus conservative is one reason America is in such deep trouble – meanwhile those of us in the middle get screwed. And we are tired of it. So perhaps less of the soap boxes from both “sides” is in order? Look where that’s gotten us.

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

No offense, but give me a break. The Republicans had nearly 15 years to come up with SENSIBLE health care reform and did nothing. They GAVE us Barack Obama because people were sick of them ignoring the problems in this country. So please excuse me if I don’t jump on their wagon. They are a useless extremist party same as mine is.

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

I am totally in favor of a public optiom. I am sick of being screwed by insurance companies. Try finding a single pay HMO where I am for less than $900 a month for one person. For a family, over $2k. This is for an HMO that will kill you first chance they get. I would kill to buy into Medicare right now, although my ex party is doing its damndest to dismantle it.

We have a Democratic President, A Democratic Senate and a Democratic House. The problem is, Obama is no leader. He is supposed to be the leader of this party and he has no leadership qualities whatsover unless you include campaign platitudes that only children fall for. He is a bust as a leader and Congress is running up and down his back. If Hillary were our president she would never put up with the shit Congress is pulling, particularly on women’s health care, not that you care, Obot. Barack Obama uses nothing but…..to use one of his campaign lines….nothing but “just words”. He will sign ANYTHING and declare it a victory even if it sucks. And that’s exactly what Rahm told congress. Give us anything and we will sign it and call it a victory. This is bullshit and not the mark of leadership or even caring about a country much less its people.

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

Then how come all the blue states have the highest concentration of welfare and public entitlement participants?

    Just asking.

You think Octomom could get away with her shit in North Carolina?

If California is so smart then how come its bankrupt. And how come the wealthy people are fleeing the place?

  • Prime Obot

Yeah, well, when every single Republican in Congress will automatically vote no on any health care bill of any kind proposed by this president, that does leave every single Democrat in a position of incredible power, doesn’t it?

That’s life in an America with one completely dysfunctional party. Thank God only around 15% of Americans are stupid enough to still support them.

  • Prime Obot

LOL, most people here don’t hate Obama, huh? So all the people who *say* they hate him are just kidding?

That is a truly delusional statement.

  • **== SUPER GALT **==

One party rule is reminiscent of Nazi Germany and look how that ended up.

  • NomNomNom

we’ve got a bazillion illegals on welfare here in NC, sorry UW. I see the pos in line in front of me at the grocery store buying fresh fruit and things I could never afford.
our economy is in the toilet outside of the counties with the larger cities (Charlotte in Mecklenburgh, Raleigh (RTP really) in Wake): as a whole NC is listed as 10.2% unemployment, but it’s way worse than that here because we USED to have a great many small businesses: when you get laid off from a small company that doesn’t have to pay unemployment you’re not appearing on those unemployment statistics.

  • **== SUPER GALT **==

The comment I was replying to was implying conformity that everyone that disagrees with Obama hates him. No delusions in my reply.

The actual consensus on NQ is not of hatred. In reality, you are projecting your hatred of dissent, as did tomcj – thus proving my point. Thank you.

  • NomNomNom

I’m all for socialized medicine that covers health care (not insurance) for everyone if it has some sort of upper limit: it’s not possible that everything can be covered.
I think our defense budget is more than large enough to cover costs for a moderate universal health care plan.

  • Prime Obot

Hi Revolution. Thank you for the long and thoughtful note. Obviously I disagree with much of it, but I appreciate the educated, reasoned discourse.

    >Really–you Obots are the most uneducated or dishonest lot there is.

Well, statistically speaking, that is false. Obama voters had far more eduction than McCain voters, as Democrats almost invariably have more education than Republicans or Independents. Fact, not opinion. Of course, you might take issue with actual education versus “life” education or whatever. But that’s the fact.

    >ou Obots think you know what’s right for the rest of the country

No. Democrats are trying to pass legislation against the remorseless opposition of the Republicans. This notion that “Obots” (whoever the hell that phrase is meant to describe — all 53% of the voting public that voted for the man?) are trying to put one over an American public that *still* supports a public health care option by a wide margin is just laughable and inane. You may live in a fantasy world where “Obots” are trying to run the country. I live in a democracy where one party won a large electoral victory and is now trying to govern while fending off an irrational, immature, dysfunctional, dying opposition party.

    >1. The CBO–even if well-intentioned, has been wrong in estimating the costs of many programs in the past, including Medicare and Social Security estimates (which are quickly on their way to insolvency)

Well, any estimates like these are just estimates. And I’m aware of the 6-year, 10-year fudge that makes the numbers look better than they might really be. But you know, America needs to decide what our priorities are. Over 40,000 citizens die every year because they lack health insurance (or don’t you believe the Harvard School of Public Health either?). We can either change our system so that that horrific mass tragedy doesn’t happen every single year, or we can drift away into uncompetitiveness.

Personally, I find the fiscal priorities of many Americans sickening. It’s okay to spend a few trillion destroying Iraq, wasting time in Afghanistan, giving enormous tax cuts to multimillionaires — but god forbid anyone suggest that the American government try to prevent hundreds of thousands of American citizens from going bankrupt, getting sick and dying from lack of health insurance — *that* is fiscally irresponsible.

It’s repulsive, and it takes a Bush-era Republican to spout such insanity. There is a reason that Europeans live longer than Americans. This is it.

And please spare me your notion about me not loving my country — I love America, in my opinion, far more than flag-waving Republican who blindly spouts moronic Rush Limbaugh talking points about Democratic perfidy and idiotically rants about America’s greatness when it is perfectly obvious to anyone with an IQ over 80 that our health care system is grossly dysfunctional and MUST be reformed.

And yes, I am in my 40s, so of course I have family members on Medicare. If you really think that any American government would significantly reduce health care for our seniors, you are even more politically foolish than you sound.

  • Prime Obot

Uppity, I wouldn’t make any final judgments until this battle is over. It is good to know, though, that there are NQers who agree with me that a public option is important for this country’s future. I assume you realize that many NQers disagree with us. They are against Obama because they think he WILL implement a public option. You’re against him because you think he will NOT implement a public option. I guess he really can’t win on this site, huh?

  • Prime Obot

What? Yet another pro-public-option progressive on NQ? I love it!

  • Onofre’s arm

I hope Mary and Blanche have their taxpayer provided healthcare insurance in order. The people they’ve just made deals with are the type that break knees.

  • Prime Obot

Had a very long response to this swallowed. Why does this site constantly do that? I know of no other site with such a harsh spam filter. anyway, maybe it will come back. No more time today to rewrite.

  • stodghie

    obot get gone!

  • Peggy Sue

    Galt said:

“So perhaps less of the soap boxes from both “sides” is in order?”

That would be refreshing, wouldn’t it Galt? The partisan BS has brought us to the brink. In my opinion both parties are absolutely bankrupt.

And yes, there are many of us, left and right of center who are sick of it.

  • NomNomNom

the GOP isn’t the lesser of 2 evils because it’s the same evil: the exact same entities own both parties; they just give off 2 lines of talk to rope in different kinds of people. There’s only one party: el partido fascista república bananera. Maybe I should say والحزب الفاشي جمهوريات الموز or 香蕉共和國的法西斯黨 in homage to our owners.
every member of congress needs to go, our Dear Narcissist and his vp, the cabinet, & all their committees and staff, and the SC with them. they are all bought and paid for.

  • Prime Obot

Thank you. Yet more sanity breaks out on NQ. But really — the Democrats, an extremist party? Ha. I only wish they were more extremist. We need a real, national public option. Unfortunately, it is no longer clear that the Democrats possess the political will to achieve. And yes, if we fail, I will give Obama a big share of the blame for that.

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

I was never much to care who disagreed with me, Obot.

But I hold out no hope that either women getting quality health care or the public option will happen. If it does, they will somehow screw it up.

As it stands now, I received a letter from my insurer and so did everyone I know who has single pay. The premium will increase nearly 33% in January, as they all gear up to Price Fix and crank up the rates before “reform” kicks in. If you ask me, the health care insurers have already ordered their champagne. Ditto for pharma, as they are gearing up to raise prices again. What with no negotiations on prices and making it illegal to buy the same drugs in canada, we are screwed there too. I fear this “reform” will work just as well as “Credit card reform”. They gave the companies nine months to crank up rates and add fees before “Reform” kicks in. They helped them extort and blackmail people. Congress loves them their investments in the Bank Of America. Check out opensecrets web site and drop your jaw. These people in congress aren’t helping us, they are helping the very campaign contributors that we need protection from.

I hope I can come back here and tell you I was wrong. I honestly do.

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

The Republican party was hijacked by far right cliff hanging extremists. The Democratic party was hijacked by far left cliff hanging extremists. They are no longer the progressives, they are the Regressives, particularly when it comes to treatment of women. This was Enabled by Barack H. Obama. He started it and he encouraged it and I am not about to forget that. Neither are most of the women I know. I no longer have respect for the Democratic party and I only remain a Democrat so that I can vote in primaries against more far left totalitarian pigs who have set gender relations back a minimum of 40 years — and I am going to do all I can to influence people to defeat this behavior. That’s not to say I will ever vote for the other extreme. I will say home first.

Obot you are talking to someone who despises both of these parties for their extremist hijacking of what were once two sane parties. Extremism is and always will be the path to destruction. I have learned that and so will you one day.

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

Life and death should NEVER be attached to a stockholder’s bottom line. It’s simply wrong. Insurers should be forced to be not for profit or there should be a public option. Without one of these two things, WHERE exactly is the incentive to lower premiums???

  • Donna Brazile

    Damn Stup Bot:

How many Clinton lovers were at the National Republic site? How many Bush lovers did you find at DailyKooks and Huffpuff sites?

    Get a damn job man!

Stop the please love me and my guy fest!

  • IndianaDem

Mine also jumped way up. I’m part of a very large Blue Cross group plan. They explain that the costs of all plan-covered services and meds have increased by a similar degree during the past 12 months. I have no trouble believing that.

No one provides an explanation as to why those covered costs have increased to such a degree when the rate of inflation is officially ZERO, however.

I understand that the consumer cost of the widely-used medication Xanax is $136.79 per 100 1mg tablets, while the cost of the active ingredients comes to $0.024. The 569,958 percent mark-up might offer us a clue.

  • NomNomNom

my health insurance jumped at the beginning of the year so high I had to drop it. ugh.

  • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

    Prime Obot,

Get an effing clue… this isn’t about GOP this or that. This is about the DNC engineering the travesty known as the Obama Administration. This is about the DNC being just as corrupt, if not more so, than the GOP. This is about corruption trumping common sense.

We’re tired of being lied to, preached to, put down, and fleeced by both parties. We’re tired of little CA azzholes (like you) telling everyone how to live, what to eat, and how to dress when their own state is going down in flames literally and figuratively. Shut up and eff off for you happen to be part of the biggest joke in recent history. Typical Left Coast wad: “Oh boo hoo! I want my big screen TV, but everyone else has to do what I want them to!”

Obama is the face of the DNC corruption and since he’s “Mr. Healthcare Reform”, he and his party are going to own this one and he’s going to own it all the way. If it fails, so be it. The healthcare reform is only a symptom.

Herein lies the demon that will not be stopped. May they all burn in hades.

  • IndianaDem

Anyone wondering what’s in the bill might want to consider reading it. It’s that stack of paper elected officials have been pointing at for weeks while loudly proclaiming No one knows what’s in there!

Being a congressman or senator is a full-time job. I assume most of them can read. And most of them have technical and legal staff. I assume they can also read. It’s not a stage prop, like Glenn’s bright red telephone. It’s pending legislation, that actually says things.

  • **== SUPER GALT **==

Based on the lack of results on the stimulus, you know that pesky 8 points cap on unemployment we were promised but has not been delivered, whether or not they can read is a moot point as to what matters to the electorate. People demand results. I’m afraid for your partisan and/or alleged “progressive” cause this does not bode well at all.

I guess there is some comfort knowing I did what I could by voting and being active. The ball’s in your court now, and please spare me the blame shifting. My dissent is healthy and you and your party have a majority of congress and the executive. So, own your congress and president and please spare us the incessant whining, misdirection and blame shifting.

  • IndianaDem

The ultra-rich, who have now sucked up some 95% of the nation’s total wealth, have somehow convinced many average people that America’s real problem is the greediness and laziness of the poor.

The USDA reported just this week that 49 million Americans–16% of the population–lacked dependable access to adequate food last year.

The report said that this problem affects an estimated 1 of every 5 American children.

  • **== SUPER GALT **==

Where are the jobs your party and dear leader have promised?

That food figure won’t get any better when folks who want to work can’t find it. Blaming the ultra-rich is just more blame shifting from you. You are quite adept at it. It seems to be automatic with you, like you are an android.

Sorry, your point in this comment fails the logic test.

  • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

    IndianaDem,

You just played your hand, you little left-wing minion. LOL!

    Whine, whine, whine…

There are so many more factors than rich people sucking up most of the wealth.

Try working as a social worker or teacher in the lowest of low economic strata. You’ll so find out that alot of the problem is parents with criminal records or substance and alcohol abuse. They sell the food stamps, the kids’ medicine, clothing, food, anything for their habit. Also, they won’t take advantage of programs to better themselves with their eye on welfare as their “career”.

No, the wealthy are the least of the problems.

When is the last time you ever, ever looked at the charitable donations that the rich give? Never? Well, there you go.

So little lib, it’s time YOU went out and got your eyes opened.

  • IndianaDem

That was a couple of facts along with an observation. People seem to have differing opinions about what it means when 5% own 95% of the wealth of the richest nation on the planet, and 16% can’t afford food.

  • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

That’s right. Keep defending your right to be myopic and, shall we say, naive.

Look into those charitable donations, yet? Found out why those who need it won’t better themselves, yet? Figure out WHY some choose to remain in poverty, yet? Ooh, now you’re messing with karma…
Question: When were those stats gathered? The feds are notorious for releasing two or more year old information. Did they include or exclude indian reservation statistics? Did they include those that receive welfare but report not being able to buy food because of geography? Did they include the estimated illegal population? Did the report include statistics over time or seasonal needs – ie more illegals during the picking season taking advantage of Dept of Ag. lunch and free food distribution? But more importantly:

Figured out HOW to get more money without Obama’s wealth distribution nonsense?

  • IndianaDem

Perhaps your own comments are revealing of certain attitudes and beliefs as well? It isn’t only we “little left wing minions” who have our preconceptions.

“Researchers say it is striking that most of the families that face “food insecurity” contain at least one adult with a full-time job. Obviously, those jobs offer very low wages.”

    http://blog.syracuse.com/opinion/2009/11/hunger_in_america_recession_un.html

Yes, I would funnel more money from the top downward. I have no problem whatsoever with progressive income taxes, nor with higher rates at the uppermost tiers to do so. It that alone defines the left, then I suppose that’s where I am. Though to me it seems more like common sense.

  • The Advocationist

That California, the one being run into the ground by a republican. Yeah, *that* California.

  • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

…Swartzenegger is governing a blue state with amnesty for illegals and the majority of voters who vote democratic..Nancy Pelosi, anyone?

Since so many in the entertainment industry reside in CA, how about doing a distribution of their wealth experiment. Let’s take a third to one half of THEIR income to “distribute”.

See how fast they’d all move to those second, third or fourth homes in Montana, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho and leave ol’ blue state liberals to foot the bill.

    Different story, huh.
