It is not just about abortion. It’s about having another unqualified person in the position of president.

I have lived in Illinois most of my life. At age 12 I was encouraging my mother to vote for Paul Douglas’s re-election to the Senate against Charles Percy.

As far as the SCOTUS is concerned, we lost it when former Illinois senator Alan “The Pal” Dixon voted to confirm Clarence Thomas. The other Illinois senator, the late Paul Simon, said that he was giving the benefit of the doubt to the American people and voted against the Thomas confirmation, while Dixon voted for it saying that he was giving Thomas the benefit of the doubt. (Think of how much different things would be if there wasn’t a Clarence Thomas to vote against Al Gore in the 2000 decisions.)

In terms of character, Obama is an accomodator like Dixon was. It is good to be bi-partisan only when it benefits your constitutents. Paul Simon understood that. Obama has not stuck his neck out which is why I consider him an accomodator.

In 2006, Illinois had a primary in March and the governor was at the top of the ticket. The chairman of the Cook County board was up for re-election. His name was John Stroger and he was being challenged by Forest Claypool. Obama had been sworn into the Senate the previous year, 2005.

Obama was tacitly supporting Claypool who is white. He did not openly endorse Claypool. Stroger was black. A week before the primary Stroger suffered a stroke, but the family did not inform the public that the stroke was a major one and he was completely debilitated.

Stroger won the primary, and during the summer the family arranged for Todd Stroger to replace his father on the ballot for the general election.

Obama did endorse Todd who has not cleaned up the county government. On July 1, 2008 sales taxes increased and now the city of Chicago has the highest sales taxes in the U.S.

An Obama presidency means that we will continue to pay for incompetancy in ways unknown.

I hope in August the kool-aid will have worn off and Sen. Clinton will be the nominee. There is no official nominee until the convention votes.

Thank you, JohnE for the post. I have been saying similar things to friends. Repeatedly. If Hillary is trashed at the convention, I will vote for McCain. Read Tarpley’s book on BO. Am now reading Dutch writer, Geert Mak’s “In Europe” which covers the history of Europe from the late 19th and to the last of the 20th century.

The parallels between America now and Germany then are eerie. The economic crises, the people’s spiritual malaise, the jaded youth seeking meaning & relevance and the rise/success of fascism among the tiny, supremely wealthy elites are more than food for thought. It is a call to action. BO’s CNSF stinks of Gestapo. We have already experienced the crude thuggery of the Obamabots. The CNSF is what’s next. It started small in Germany, too. Just an idea. Just words. And it worked.

If we do not fight back and speak out, we will be lost. Our Democracy, will be an illusion. All the legal mechanisms are in place(thanks to W, and a corrupt Congress)to utilize those 600 detention centers Halliburton built. Sure it’s crazy stuff but it is here, ready to be sprung on us. Free speech zones? Illegitimate nomination/coronation in a football stadium? Barak Obama is a dangerous sociopath. Conspiracy? You betcha’ at the highest levels of corporate power who done bought themselves a candidate.

I will never stay home(they want us to). I will vote for John McCain since he is a known factor. Obama is an unknown unknown. He must be thrown back into the Chicago swamp from whence he crawled!

Comparing a NEWSCASTER–a FULL-FLEDGED MEMBER OF THE FOURTH ESTATE–to a “blogger”. Yeah, that’s entirely the same thing.
My POINT (which you obviously missed) was merely to correct a false impression that Amy had left. What went unsaid was the fact that IF that same newscaster/pundit had made a similar claim that “Obama was pimping out” either Michelle or his daughters, that newsman would have been out on his ass in a heartbeat. OTOH, many so-called progressives (the ones so supportive of Obama) went ballistic when Hillary demanded that MSNBC take some punitive action over the comment.

I was an Edwards supporter who voted for Senator Clinton when Mr. Edwards dropped out of the race. However, I disagree with you that Clinton “was the most qualified candidate in the presidential field this year.” Though far from the best candidate, and probably not the individual who would have made the best president, Bill Richardson, given his breadth of experience, was the most qualified candidate in either party.

Women got the right to vote 50 YEARS AFTER Black men. But from the media and complaining, one would think women have had some great entitlement and been pushing Black men around forever.
