I read it in Philly and thought it was a devastating indictment of everything we're seeing and hearing right now--the glitz, the happy chatter, the party-crashing pranksters, the Dubai default, Climategate, the Jobs symposium [the day before the new numbers come out], the whole big mess rolling along at breakneck speed while we eat ourselves sick and start rolling out the credit cards for Christmas [big tallies reported for Black Friday and e-commerce Monday], a stream of crazy consciousness summed up in that last paragraph: "Phony hope sounds. Clinking glasses at a phony state dinner. Camera clicks at a prankish phony reception. Silent dread that Dubai World is our phony world, a cheat." Chilling. But good writing. Kudos to Batchelor! There is the guy saying how "flyover" US is basically screwed and at the mercy of the mega-cities. Then there is the mega-city guy saying nobody lives in the "flyover" US. This is what I have been saying about "democracy". It has devolved into a head count. A head count influenced by corruption, graft and what's in it for me? We have lost our constitutional republic to this new and contemptuous "democracy". Look at the Louisiana purchase senator. This is beyond contemptuous. The only way for "flyover" US to "play" now is to not play at all anymore. If the flyover US can no longer be represented fairly, then it's time to dissolve the union. It is like a bad marriage. It probably can't be fixed at this point and it would be better probably for everyone to just part ways. Notice the comments at that 3D map site. If journalism were alive, the two would have wanted to preserve at least the appearance of objectivity. Just as Obama would have rejected the Nobel Peace Prize on the grounds that it could be seen to have influenced his decisions on war and peace in the United States.
