[Updated] We Are All Mourning

* Bumped up *

TUESDAY (Dec. 1st) MORNING UPDATE: Maurice Clemmons has been fatally shot by police. See the Seattle Post-Intelligencer for details.

Original Post: You all are familiar with this horrific story. And so, we say, to the families of the slain officers, and to all of their law enforcement brethren, we extend to you our deepest condolences for this insane, senseless act. Via The Seattle Times, here are photos of the four who served and protected us and who were gunned down while peacefully sitting in a nice neighborhood coffee shop:

FourDeputies

Shame on former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who granted the alleged perpetrator, Maurice Clemmons, clemency despite the desperate pleas of Arkansas prosecutors – SEE the astonishing section from a Times story below the fold, along with my commentary – and the judge who granted this man bail a week ago despite the child rape charges:

From “Suspect let out of Pierce County jail one week ago“:

Maurice Clemmons, the 37-year-old man wanted for questioning in the killing of four Lakewood police officers Sunday morning, has a long criminal record punctuated by violence, erratic behavior and concerns about his mental health.

His criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington. That record also stands out for the number of times Clemmons has been released from custody despite questions about the danger he posed.

Mike Huckabee, while governor of Arkansas, granted clemency to Clemmons nine years ago, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protests of prosecutors.

[BRONWYN'S INSERT: If this doesn't end Huckabee's presidential aspirations, I don't know what will. As an aside, Huckabee is such a likeable "regular joe" that people tend to overlook his poor record as governor. A friend in Tennessee, close to Arkansas, told me her local news was always full of the latest scandal in which Huckabee was embroiled.]

“This is the day I’ve been dreading for a long time,” Larry Jegley, prosecuting attorney for Arkansas’ Pulaski County, said Sunday night when informed that Clemmons was being sought in connection with the killings.

In Pierce County, Clemmons had been in jail for the past several months on a child-rape charge that carries a possible life sentence. He was released from custody one week ago, even though he was staring at eight felony charges in all.

Clemmons posted $15,000 with a Chehalis company called Jail Sucks Bail Bonds. The bondsman, in turn, put up $150,000, securing Clemmons’ release on the child-rape charge.

Clemmons moved to Washington from Arkansas in 2004. He was placed under the supervision of the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) for an Arkansas conviction, according to a department spokesman. The DOC classified him as “high risk to reoffend.” His supervision was to continue until October 2015, the spokesman said. …

(Emphases mine.)

I pray that no one else has to die before this man is caught.

Here is a recent A.P. video on the shootings. Of note: He was not at the home that was surrounded, according to the Seattle Times, but may be in the neighborhood surrounding the huge Seattle campus of the University of Washington. This in itself is very, very worrisome in that the “U District” is heavily populated and receives more incoming people than any other area of Seattle except downtown.

We can only hope, and pray, that the gunman who slaughtered these four police officers in cold blood, is apprehended quickly, and before he can kill anyone else.

Update: The frantic search continues. Now the police think he may be in South Seattle. Please let them find him before any more people die. I know that these law enforcement units – and they are ALL out there — are great, and they will find him in due time. But his violent nature makes me worry for all who are pursuing him, and for any innocent bystander.

Perhaps people who have had at three felony convictions should have mandatory life sentences with a minimum of 25 years in solitary confinement.

This happened in the next town over from me and I was just sickened at the thought of the officers being killed and what this loss will mean to all their family members. I wish I had some profound thoughts on this terribly sad event but all I can come up with is that there are some really awful people in this world.

Thank you to all police and fire fighters who put their lives on the line for us everyday.

  • TeakWoodKite

My deepest condolenses to these brave officers and families, shot down in cold blood.

Why is anyone allowed back on the street after being arrested for CHILD RAPE?

What is wrong with this Judge who released him on bail??????

    • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Oh, by the way, the dolt who released him “takes full responsility” for this…what meaningless BS. What? Is he going to serve a jail sentence for being stupid?

Let’s hope their guess that one of the officers was able to fire back, wounding the creep in the abdomen, is true.

My heart breaks for the families of these officers.

I, too, wonder if he was radicalized in prison. What a vicious looking guy.

  • tango

It’s not just bail for child rape. Look at his criminal history – this guy should’ve never gotten bail period after he was arrested this last time. He proved over and over he is a danger to society.

I’m so sorry for the families and friends of these fallen police officers. My thoughts are with them now.

  • HARP

I hope they realize this was a hate crime.

    • maryann

if it were four black officers shot by a white criminal given slack time and again

all Jesse hell would be breaking loose

      as usual…”where’s Al and Jesse?”

  • Bronwyn’s Harbor

There are sme brilliant defense attorneys in Seattle — bet one of them will take this case pro bono. But no jury is going to give him anything less than life w/o parole or the death penalty. I pray it’s the death penalty since I would feel terrible for corrections officers who’d have to deal with this insane monster.

    • http://noquarter foxyladi14

i don;t usually like the death penalty but in case i will make an exception.

      • ~~JustMe~~

I don’t usually like criminals being shot down but in this case I will make an exception. He’s had enough freedom to correct his past seems he is hell bent on making others suffer. Save us from a long lengthy trial where mistakes are continually made.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the fallen officers.

    • jbjd

Of course, condolences to the families and loved ones of these slain officers.

So many facts to be sorted out before concluding what went wrong. I was struck by this in that Seattle Times article, faulting the DA’s office for failing to make timely service on several felony charges, resulting in the decision not to prosecute certain charges.

After his release, Clemmons remained on parole. Soon after, he found trouble again. In March 2001, he was accused of violating his parole by committing aggravated robbery and theft, according to the Democrat-Gazette.

He was returned to prison on a parole violation. But in what appears to have been a mistake, he wasn’t served with the arrest warrants until leaving prison three years later.

Clemmons’ attorney argued that the charges should be dismissed because too much time had passed. Prosecutors thereafter dropped the charges.

Then, there is this, from the Times.

In another instance, Clemmons was accused of gathering his wife and young relatives around at 3 or 4 in the morning and having them all undress. He told them that families need to “be naked for at least 5 minutes on Sunday,” a Pierce County sheriff’s report says.

“The whole time Clemmons kept saying things like trust him, the world is going to end soon, and that he was Jesus,” the report says.

As part of the child-rape investigation, the sheriff’s office interviewed Clemmons’ sister in May. She told them that “Maurice is not in his right mind and did not know how he could react when contacted by Law Enforcement,” a sheriff’s report says.

“She stated that he was saying that the secret service was coming to get him because he had written a letter to the President. She stated his behavior has become unpredictable and erratic. She suspects he is having a mental breakdown,” the report says.

Deputies also interviewed other family members. They reported that Clemmons had been saying he could fly and that he expected President Obama to visit to “confirm that he is Messiah in the flesh.”

Prosecutors in Pierce County were sufficiently concerned about Clemmons’ mental health that they asked to have him evaluated at Western State Hospital. Earlier this month, on Nov. 6, a psychologist concluded that Clemmons was competent to stand trial on the child-rape and other felony charges, according to court records.

Evoking shame for Governor Huckabee for granting clemency to a man the whole parole board recommended receive such clemency; for crimes committed when he was a minor, none of which involved physical violence, seems at this point, unwarranted. It also seems incongruous to call for the death of any human being after identifying him as insane. And, even assuming this man killed these officers, this does not make him a “monster.”

I pray it’s the death penalty since I would feel terrible for corrections officers who’d have to deal with this insane monster.

      • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

I see an insanity defense coming…

I vote no. Anyone who could take out 4 police officers, plot it when they were defenseless…not insane. Crazy, of course but knew his mind.

        • Bronwyn’s Harbor

I don’t think they’ll be able to get an insanity plea. It’s thankfully very difficult to attain one.

        • Patrick Henry

And I hope the gunshot wounds that Clemmens recieved from that Brave Lakewood City Police officer who died is causing Clemmens agonizing pain…and that He is will Die from his wounds as he should..That is the kind of due process he deserves now..
That would be JUSTICE for everyone..especially for his Victims and thier familys..

      • Bronwyn’s Harbor

I will continue to call him a monster. You may disagree but I call it like i see it.

        • elizabethrc

Where will all of this white hatred end? Badly for blacks, I suspect. There is a rising anger in the country against the violence, the arrogance, the increasingly bad behaviour, the random challenging of whites by the black community. Just how long do they think we are going to take this? Do they not see that we are beginning to be done with the white guilt excuse and will no longer accept without question the actions of these people? The black community would do well to rejoin the human race where civility and respect for others and their rights are the norm. Nothing’s going to get better until that happens.

          • http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/2009/11/27/what-i-now-love-about-the-holidays-thanks-to-the-crobonomy/ Silence Dogood

The black community would do well to rejoin the human race where civility and respect for others and their rights are the norm. Nothing’s going to get better until that happens.

Perhaps we can begin by seeing there is only one “community” — the human community?

Race dividing “leaders” akin to what Hitler did to the Jews to gain power — look how “well” that ended up!

History does indeed repeat itself, when folks use the divide and conquer approach to gain power and wealth — they end up morally bankrupt in the end and fall out of power in total disgrace.

History books may never report this, but the parallel between America now and 1930′s Germany can not be denied.

I feel like I am stuck in a tub of excrement without the ability to pull the drain, get up and shower… :(

            This is pure unadulterated madness!

      • creeper

jbjd, with all due respect it was Governor Huckabee’s signature on those commutation papers. Are you advocating that the governor is blameless because he followed the recommendation of the board? I would submit to you that he bears as much responsibility as they do…more, in fact since without his signature Clemmons would have remained where he belonged–in prison.

As for the fact that he was a minor at the time, I have two words for you…Dylan Klebold. Minors are capable of committing the most horrendous crimes, now it seems more than ever. Clemmons had been convicted in Arkansas of not one but five felonies. This was not your everyday misguided teenager. I think you’re being incredibly naive.

        • jbjd

I think you’re being incredibly naive.

More straw dogs. An acknowledgment that minors can commit atrocious acts is separate from an understanding that all adolescent brains are not adult brains; and that some perpetrators of crime could be capable of rehabilitation.

          • IndieDogg

We’ll send Clemmons to your house; you can rehabilitate him.

            • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

Clemmons is another example of where mental health issues need to be brought out, labeled, and treated accordingly in person’s under the age of eighteen. Some etiologies don’t magically appear or disappear at the onset of adulthood.

Rehab? Yeah right. More like maintenance in lock-up.

        • Portia Elizabeth

Creeper — I saw Mike Huckabee on TV this morning. He explained that his decision to commute the sentence meant that it was reduced to 47 years with a chance of parole. If the parole board had made him serve 47 years, he would still be locked up. While Huckabee accepts some of the blame, I really don’t think he should receive the scorn that more appropriately belongs with the board who had the chance to actually interview the man and make a decision to parole him back into society nine years ago.

        • Owllwoman

Sorry, but Huckabee’s commutation was 9 years ago after he had served many years for crimes he committed at 16. Any one of us may have done the same thing especially when the judge who gave the sentance agreed with commutation. MSNBC is totally mis-representing the facts. I would vote for Huckabee in a heartbeat. At least he is real!

  • EWard

My sympathies go out to the familes of these officers.

What’s wrong with our justice and parole system? This man had an extensive rap sheet in Arkansas going back to his teens and Huckabee commutes his sentence. Anyone can claim to turn their life around but with all these felonies, the handwriting was on the wall. Shame on Huckabee and the judge that set a low bail for child rape…..

  • Patrick Henry

Thank you NQ,Larry and Bronwyns Harbor for putting up this story..and for your comments..as a former CSI and Deputy Sheriff..who has seen first Hand.. our Criminal Justice system deterrioate to this point since the 1960′s when I began my job..I am both deeply saddened and outraged..but NOT surprised..Yet another Henious Crime has been committed ..just like Fort Hood..becuase the system FAILED the People..

Our system and many of our govenors and legislators have become more sympathetic to the Criminals and THEIR rights, than those of thier Victims .. or thedamage these criminals have done to our society and thier Victims..

Like Teakwood said…this guy CLEMMENS should never have gotten out of Jail or Prison by now…or have been Granted BAIL..by another LIBERAL..Idiot Judge ..Clemmens had NINE Felony Arrests..and was in Jail for CHILD RAPE..and Assault on Deputy Sheriff’s..and was on PAROLE..

I understand that One of Lakewoods Brave officers managed to fight with Clemmens on the Way out the Door…and shoot him in the Abdomen and wound him.

Now..I Hope Clemmens Bleeds to Death and dies in a Ditch like a bleeding PIG..before he can Abduct or Hurt anyone else..

Also, there were Nine HOMICIDES in Obamas Hometown of CHICAGO over this weekend..and he has NEVER made this BLIGHT on Our Society a PRIORITY..or he would be in Chicago making Criminal Violence and Gang Activity a Priority ISSUE..

I say..Shame on Him..and his Liberal ACLU mindset..
    Shame on them ALL..

    .

My prayers are with the families of the four murdered heroes.

As a retired state trial judge, I can tell you any time defendants are on another state parole list, IDEALLY that state is contacted prior to setting the new bond on the newly charged offense. Due to outside state parole holds (which can be waived by the parolling state), a modest bond may be enough to hold the defendant in custody. Bond setting is one of the most harrowing and courageous task for judges acting as bond -setting magistrates.
How and where an out-of-state parolee defendant raises the 10% bond premium should be of interest to the WA detectives researching the defendant’s friends/family.
IMO, 15K is outrageously low for child rape charges, considering prior record, regardless of clemency. The victim/witness unit out there needs to be on guard for that man.

    • Portia Elizabeth

Thank you for your insights, oldone.
It’s too bad you’re retired. The courts need more of your kind, especially now.

  • I’m a Linda too

Truly a horrible incident that could have been avoided. I wonder if that’s why Huckabee came out with his, “less likely to run” yesterday before the news of his parson came out.

So sad. Just gunned down while sitting in a coffee shop. All so young, entire life ahead of them.

I hope this man is stopped quickly.

    • I’m a Linda too

I thought this sounded a bit familiar. Huckabee’s 2nd gone awry clemency/pardon. The other was a rapist, Dumond, that Huckabee claimed was railroaded by Bill Clinton, but after his pardon, raped and murdered another woman.

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Indeed, my prayers go out to the families of these fallen officers. What a tragedy this is.

Just mind-boggling that this man was EVER released.

Oldone, thank you for sharing your experience – nothing like hearing from someone who knows the system.

  • creeper

Huckabee’s political fate is sealed. His support, which had been increasing recently, was primarily right-wing Christians…the “eye-for-an-eye”, support-your-local-sheriff crowd. This isn’t going to set well with them.

It’s still tragic. I’d almost be willing to put up with Muckabout in the White House if it would bring those four officers back. As it is, all I can do is take some small measure of consolation in his consignment to the dustbin of politics.

Oh, I note that on his website Huckabee referred to this as a “failure of the justice systems in Arkansas and Washington.” Yeah right, Mike. Your putting that animal back on the streets had nothing to do with it.

  • SHV

Huckabee’s chickens are coming home to roost. First Wayne DuMond, now Maurice Clemmons, who’s next? Huckabee was always a sucker for the “born again” felon.

  • elizabethrc

This is the end of Huckabee’s political aspirations. What a fool, so typical of do gooders who plunge in over their heads, all the while thinking that liberal treatment of criminals is good and godly. He’s setting back liberalism decades, and none too soon.

  • SHV

liberal treatment of criminals is good and godly. He’s setting back liberalism decades,
    *******
Huckabee’s weird behavior in his pardons had nothing to do with liberalism but all to do with his fundamentalist religious beliefs. Wayne DuMond, who Huckabee pardoned and later raped at killed one or two more women was basically pardoned because the victim that got him sent to prison was a distant relative of Bill Clinton.

The worst thing about Huckabee, just like Obama; it’s always the fault of someone else; never takes responsibility.

    • elizabethrc

You may well be right about the religious factor, but I still believe that as far as social programs go, he leans liberal, Republican or not.
Do gooders do more harm than good and he’s one of the worst.

  • http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/2009/11/27/what-i-now-love-about-the-holidays-thanks-to-the-crobonomy/ Silence Dogood

The worst thing about Huckabee, just like Obama; it’s always the fault of someone else; never takes responsibility.

People in positions of authority by the nature of the tasks others entrust them with, have a special responsibility to shoulder the burden of the outcomes of their decisions and never blame-shift.

That being said, all of humanity, including the best of us at times are guilty of blaming someone else for our own foibles.

That begs the question, should we be surprised at the all-too-human behavior of our leaders?

Not trying to excuse the behavior. I just seek to understand human nature. Its an important step if one is trying to figure out how to fix something: understanding what’s broken.

I heard this morning that these young public servants have a total of nine children. What a horrific event!
These officers face so much danger while doing their job, but they were murdered in a senseless act of violence.
The newspapers each morning are full of murder, mayhem, child abuse and animal abuse.
These predators should meet a swift end!

    • Portia Elizabeth

      Heartbreaking to read that.

  • Dcmediagirl

I almost feel sorry for those of you who were hoping this scumbag is a Muslim. Too bad he turned out to be a run of the mill Jesus freak like Dr. Tiller’s killer and the Holocaust shooter.

    • Patrick Henry

It does not matter if Maurice Clemmons was a Jailhouse Muslim Convert or another type of religious Nut Case who was “Waiting for Obama to come to Lakewood and Declare Him the Messiah” as Clemmons stated..It appears that Clemmons had the same type hatred for the “Whie Mans system”..and took that hatred out on those Four White police officers..

Our police officers often pay the price for that Racial and Idelogical hatred spewed by the likes of Obamas mentor jeremiah Wright..Remember that Rant of his..”God Damn the USKKK of A..”

What message does that send to members of the Black Community…and Black Youth..?

Chicago gangs are a Prime Example of being in the Center of that Culture of Hate taught to Black people by those type of Civic Leaders..

Did you know that One of barack Hussein Obama’s offical Acts as President on Janurary 5th 2009 wasd to Appoint his Harvard law school Friend..and classmate..THOMAS J. PERRELLI as the UNITED STATES ASSOCIATE ATTORNY GENERAL..?? Or that One of Perrelli’s first official acts was to order the Civil Rights division to drop a case they had prepared against the NEW BLACK PANTHERS..??

Or…while you are at it…Look up Barack Hussein Obama’s recent appointment of the “Devout Muslim” ARIF ALIKAHN to the Post of Deputy Director of POLICY for the Department of HOMELAND SECURITY..This is the guy who campaigned sucessfully ..to prevent the LA Police department for “Profiling”muslims or Muslim Groups in Claifornia in 2002..and a dedicated Activist for Muslim causes..

Combine all that with all of Obama’s crackpot CZARS..and you might connect some DOTS and see a pattern in Obama’s Administration..

I agrree with those who say that BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA is Indeed “THE ONE”…

The “White Mans system” is systamatically being Dismatled..piece by piece…

      • ahs

If the “White Mans [sic] system” (whatever you think that means) includes racial and/or religious profiling of American citizens, then it should be systematically dismantled.

This is the guy who campaigned sucessfully ..to prevent the LA Police department for “Profiling”muslims or Muslim Groups in Claifornia in 2002..and a dedicated Activist for Muslim causes..

Equal treatment under the law, and by law enforcement, is not a “Muslim” cause. It’s an American one.

        • Patrick Henry

Barack Obamas mentor ..Jeremiah Wright is the one who ranted about the oppressions of the “White Mans system”..What he called the God damn USKKKofA..” The same system that fought the civil war to End slavery..The same system that Produced John and Bobby Kennedy who campaigned to end segregation and Discrimination..the same system that has fought for equality..and womens Rights..The same system ..that is so concerned about equal rights and racial profiling that it failed to Prevent the 9/11 event because its EXTREME Fear of Profiling..allowed the Terrorist to carry out thier Henious Acts and use several ways to Cover and Finance thier Terrorist Operations..and continue to do so today inside the United States because they hide behind the “PROFILING “Issue..

          thats a FACT..

        • Patrick Henry

radical Muslim terrorist are hiding behind the “PROFILE” Cover..and they are funding terrorist operations here and overseas ..

They hid behind it prior to thier 9/11 massacre ..and they hide behinde it now..They are getting cover from people in positions of power all over the United States..who are preventing law enforcement and our Intelligence Agencys from doing thier Lawful Job to Maintain Law and order…especially when we are at WAR with Muslim radicals..

I am disgusted by people with stupid comments and attitudes like yours..

        • http://www.sonicninjakitty.wordpress.com Sonic Ninja Kitty

Equal treatment under the law, and by law enforcement, is not a “Muslim” cause. It’s an American one.

          Very well said.

  • Patrick Henry

Yes…there were nine more murders in Obamas home town of Chicago this weekend…remember the young boy having his head bashed in on the Streets there recently..??

Chicago is FULL of Street Gangs and Killers..The town Obama brags about being a Community organizer in..well…CHICAGO is where our President should go too…and DENOUNCE these Violent criminal Acts, Street Gangs, and Hatred that is directed at Law enforcement Officers and the “White Mans System” there..

Oh, Wait, Obama was hanging out with Jeremiah Wright,Billy “BOMBER” Ayers the Domestic Terrorist.. and Louis Farrakahn, and “The Nation of Islam,” You know..the Muslim group that DC Sniper JOHN ALLEN MUHAMMAD joined after converting to Islam and going on his Self proclaimed killing Spree and “JIHAD”..The guy who said that Bin Laden was his Idol and Role Model..

Did you know that John Muhammad had a three phase plan..?? The first was his snipwer killing Spree…the second was to only shoot pregnant women in the stomach…and then to start assassinating POLICE OFFICERS and then Planting expolsives at thier Funerals so he could kill Many more Police and thier Familys..

The third Phase was to find many other kids like Lee Malvo to train as Killers to continue the types of killing all around the United states..

Did you know that the Seattle cop Killer Christopher Monfort, had an apartment full of Bombs and Booby traps also..what was he planning on continuing to do…?? what were his Motives..?
What was he doing in california 12 years ago..Isolated with no seen Contacts.?

There are clear patterns and Attitudes displayed here..and they are Indoctrinated from Cultures of Hatred for the “White Mans System”..which includes Law enforcement Officers..

We are Hearing more from Main stream media about Poor Tiger Woods than we are about this Assassination of four “White” Police Officers in Lakewood..

Based on DC Sniper John Muhammads plan to BOMB His police victims funerals..I am concerned about the funerals for these Poor Lakewood Officers..

Its a widespread CULTURE OF HATE…Period..

I don’t know, her statement that Clemmons turns out to be a run of the mill jeebus freak seemed to sum up her point quite nicely.
not sure anything else really needs to be said.

As if that is relevent what electric bolt struck these monsters?

Who gives a shit what branch they fell from.

disingenous, both her remark, and mine are in response to the proposition that Clemmons is likely a black muslim.
neither dcmedia girl nor myself said anything about what we thought his motive was or sentence ought to be.
interesting that you choose to imagine such a thing for me: I have made my position in support of capital punishment quite clear in the past couple of years.

Sorry if my tone was obtuse. It was not directed at you. I just did not see why DCMediagirl, who’s opinion I respect, as well as yours, would go there in the first place.

DcMediagirl was the first to raise the point as I read thru the thread. I thought it was a cheap shot that was out of line. So be it.

I still say “Who gives a shit what branch they fell from” Hassan will be dead soon enough. And cudo’s to the patrolman who took that garbage out. He should NEVER have been on the street to begin with.

        • Patrick Henry

He, Clemmons.. is about as much a run of the mill ‘Jesus Freak..” as Bin Laden and John Muhammad were “Run of the Mill Muslims..”

People like them are radicals using religion to to excuse thier Hatred and Murderous Acts..They are the EXCEPTION among religious believers..and people who behave like they do Need to be Profiled and monitored..BEFORE they Kill someone..

      • DCMediagirl

TeakWoodKite: I didn’t respond because I think “Patrick Henry’s” post was incoherent, reeking of bigotry and irrational fear of the slow degradation of what Glenn Beck refers to as “the white culture” (which he can’t or won’t define).

But since you’re so interested here’s my view.

Violent and dangerous scumbags need to be off the street. This particular scumbag was not a Muslim. This may come as a surprise to some who post here, but many violent criminals in our jails are not Muslims. Many crimes committed in the name of religion or “patriotism” have been committed by extremely dangerous and violent white people (Oklahoma City, the Holocaust Museum shooting, the murder of abortion providers, etc.) An ill-informed person reading “Patrick Henry’s” angry rant would assume that all crimes are being committed by non-whites, Muslims or Muslims-at-heart.

And by the way, Bill O’Reilly, who I know is a hero to some of you, had this to say to Huckabee:

Well, it’s not your fault, Governor. I mean, look, you’ve got 1,200 of these cases a year. You gotta look at them. I’m not saying it’s your fault. I don’t think anyone watching thinks it’s your fault.

Funny coming from a man whose boss, Roger Ailes, helped Bush 1 defeat Michael Dukakis in 1988 by making use of the Willie Horton case. But hey, if you’re a Republican governor employed by FOX and you’re responsible for allowing a violent offender to go back on the street then all is forgiven.

        Disgusting.

        • Docelder

There was also this Dukakis picture in a tank. Which reminds me also of Kerry’s “reporting for duty” line and Bush II’s “mission accomplished” banner.

            @DcMediaGirl
I almost feel sorry for those of you who were hoping this scumbag is a Muslim

This what I find odd coming from you. Show me a comment on the thread that has someone SAYING or implying that they were “hoping” he was a Muslim?

            • rw

Actually, I was thinking some how I missed something…did not see anything with “hope” and “Muslim” either. Bit, defensive statement, I would say.

            • rw

What a small little coward, targeting a little girl and distracted police officers. His elimination did not come soon enough. Human progress will come when science eliminates these deviant elements before they are born.

Here’s the second comment on this thread:

              Comment by Khan Krum | 2009-11-30 16:15:00

Indeed. Along the say line, has anyone checked to see if this guy was Islamicized in prison?

Why would the man’s religious proclivities come into it, unless there are warning signs (as there were at Ft. Hood) that an individual’s religious beliefs posed a danger to those around him?

Dangerous people do not belong on the streets. Repeat offenders should not be walking free. That goes for felons, religious radicals who preach and practice violence (shooting abortion providers) AND self-described “patriots” who plan, promote and carry out violent acts. Simple.

  • NomNomNom

a dangerous mentally disturbed convict who is a possible childraper, bail???? unfreaking believable…
    just sickening.
what is the matter with this court system?

  • Cathy in Ks.

My heart goes out to the family, friends, and co-workers of these cops. Such a senseless and preventable tragedy compounded by the fact that it occurred on Thanksgiving week-end – a time when families gather together to celebrate their many blessings and now these families of these slain officers are left with grief and loss. Undoubtedly there is also tremendous anger – anger as to why this man was not behind bars.

Patrick Henry, I agree with you that there has been more media attention given to Tiger Woods than to this horrendous tragedy that should never have occurred. I do wonder about this. If the situation were reversed and the police officers murdered were African-American and the perpetrator was a “white male”, wouldn’t there be MSM outrage 24/7? The Tiger Woods story would probably be a blip on the radar screen.

  • Patrick Henry

Yes Kathy..Thanks for your comments..The Main Stream media channels on TV are Playing it Safe
on this Hate Crime…They ..like thier IDOL..Barack Hussein Obama..who gives them Tingles ..refuse to Call this a HATE CRIME..or a RACE CRIME..

As Barack Hussein Obama said about the Fort Hood Terrorist NIDAL MALIK HASAN..who was shouting the Muslim Phrase “ALLAHU AKBAR”..while he assassinated Our troops in Fort Hood..

“Lets NOT have a Rush to Judgement here”..

The same way the media played down the DC Snipers
professed “JIHAD”..and muslim Background..or his being a member of Nation of islam..

The Rush to judgement must only be made against white Police officers arresting a Black Professor friend of Barack Hussein Obama..

    No Predjustice there…

    • Cathy in Ks.

Patrick Henry, I appreciate the information you have shared about these perpetrators of “hate crimes”. There is definitely a “method in their madness”. It was only recently that I heard that much about the DC snipers Muslim “jihadist” background. Their plans that you shared were truly frightening and diabolical. Again, I wonder if these men had been white males of a “right wing fundamentalist Christian persuasion” wouldn’t this kind of information have been shouted from the rooftops by the MSM?

I fear those who call the MSM in our country the “state controlled media” are not far from the truth. I think about men like my father, son of an immigrant and a veteran of W. W. II, who served his country with pride and honor. Unfortunately if he were alive today, he might now be looked upon with suspicion by this current administration because he was a “veteran” and even worse a “white, Christian, male”. I miss my father but I thank God he’s not alive to witness what is currently happening in this country.

    • DCMediagirl

Do you honestly believe that this story hasn’t gotten any coverage? Are you serious? Do you follow the news at all? And by the way, “Patrick Henry”, there were TWO DC snipers. The second one was not a Muslim. And there’s strong evidence to suggest that John Mohammed’s motivation was not political but rather domestic. He was out to kill his wife.

Do you honestly believe that this story hasn’t gotten any coverage? Are you serious? Do you follow the news at all?

I’m sure Patrick Henry will correct me if I am wrong, but I don’t think that’s his point. My read of his assertion: It is not a lack of coverage as you claim he is saying, but how they are pussyfooting around certain aspects:

The Main Stream media channels on TV are Playing it Safe on this Hate Crime…

Playing it safe is not a lack of coverage.

By trying to sidestep the thrust of his argument, you actually made his point stronger and hit home harder to me.

Close / no cigar axiom applies. :D

In this morning’s Boston Globe, Woods’ name was on the front page; the police officers’ story inside.

I noticed his personal troubles taking precedence over more pressing matters. No surprise there. Woods should not be on the cover page, but the media is obsessed with idols.

And how convenient, the MSM can avoid something that really matters like the big O’s flowery rhetoric spewing tonight. Perhaps that’s not the best example? ;)

DCmediagirl…I suggest you look up John Muhammad in Wiki and read the full story about him and his Plans..also read what Lee malvo, his accomplice told investigators..Muhammad considered his killing spree a JiHad”..and yes..He got his weapon in Washington State..trained malvo on using it..and intended to kill his wife before going on his follow up “JiHad”..

calling his actions “Domestic vilence” is absurd..

No The police killings have not gotten Full MSM Coverage..otherwise they would see what I see on local media Coverage in Washington State…an outpour of public grief and support for the Police..thier familys and departments..much of that coming from many wonderful members of our black community going on TV..and expressing thier outrage and sympathy for the police..and holding Hugh Vigils..

i am waiting for Barack Obama..Jeremiah Wright..Jesse Jackson and other PUBLIC Leaders in the Black communitys to do the same..

I suspect there are those in Chicago who consider Clemmons a Martyr and “Freedom Fighter” ..and applaud his henious acts..just like there are those who applaud those who have been motivated to murder workers and doctors at Abortion Clinics..

All of that is SICK..and a Blight on our society..

Those who have pushed people like Clemmons to level of anger and hatred He has displayed..or Initated the Watts Riots or Supported Islamic JiHad or push Christians to kill abortion workers..or promote ALL types of Racism and Bigotry..or Sexism..or Discrimination are at Fault..

TUESDAY (Dec. 1st) MORNING UPDATE: Maurice Clemmons has been fatally shot by police. See Seattle Post-Intelligencer for details.

    Editor: thanks for the update.

I assume some people will now automatically accuse the cops of misconduct, without knowing all the facts, hypocritically some of the same people who tell us “innocent until proven guilty” about an alleged perpetrator.

“Innocent until proven guilty” applies equally to all.

I might seem on the right of a lot of issues. The comments you are replying to do seem coming from the right. When views speak truth to my heart, I go with that. I also am left on a lot of issues.

My bleeding heart left side is not happy when someone was gunned down, even if lawfully, and even if they are a murderer themselves.

My left side would have preferred a trial and conviction, and life in prison without the possibility of parole, if the alleged was indeed guilty himself.

This shooting avoiding the need for a prosecution works out well for anyone who wanted to sweep this under the rug. Its not very popular when racism from the “oppressed” themselves comes out. But we all know racism is not just a “white” problem: discrimination is a human problem.

          • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

My perspective is different. I had a lefty bleeding heart until I actually worked with the criminally gifted. I worked with adolescents and young adults with various degrees of buy-in to their budding criminal lifestyle.

Some had very serious mental health issues underlying that played into their MO. Others, for whatever reason, had adopted a criminal mentality. All took pleasure in their behavior. Don’t forget that part when you look at these cases.

When I finally figured out that most, for whatever reason, would rob you or cut your heart out with the same amount of enthusiasm as an Olympic athlete, I wised up.

I see no paradox betwixt your beliefs and mine, expressed in your last comment.

I was just trying to distance myself from the perspective I am a “conservative” — apparently at your expense. For this I sincerely apologize.

On race issues I am pretty conservative, that’s for sure. But I will never buy into any one whole philosophy (not saying you are!) lock stock and barrel. :)

Crime and punishment I am more liberal, being against CP and if it can be quantitatively demonstrated to be more effective, actual rehabilitation for those who could be helped.

Drug / so-called vice laws / same-sex marriage: count me libertarian.

Thanks to the change in our political climate over the past decade, I now support the much unfairly maligned “gun-clingers.” They are necessary to instill fear into our “leaders” so they will never push an agenda too far. The 2nd Amendment was wise in this regard.

              And so forth…

Hey FF, your broad-brush-all-people-of-color-hate-the-cops-so-let-the-shooting-begin attitude is not constructive at all. It’s obvious that it is never proper (your word) for law enforcement to shoot people in the back.

Your comment makes several giant leaps including: All people of color (POC) are criminals with a natural affinity for being suspicious of the police; POCs deserve special dispensation because of POCs have been “victims” of society (i.e. slavery, yeah, let’s go there); Obama needs a break because he can “represent” all the “victims” who never had a chance to “make it;” POCs can blame “the man” for their victim status. After all, it was “the man” who pulled out the gun and shot those officers in the coffee shop.

Your flawed reasoning and leaps of lunacy are aligned with your ability to overplay the race card. Try something new – How about this: anyone who has a history of dealing with the law is suspicious of cops. Let’s move on here, it ain’t all about race.

My conclusion is that if you want to combat racism, please do not act like a racist yourself.

I am quite unfamiliar with Facebook, but for those of you who are, i hope you can find the page referred to in this section of a Seattle Times story, and you can share that direct link with all of us so that we can also go there and leave our expressions of feelings:

Jacob Kimerer said he was moved to create the Facebook page after seeing a similar page honoring Timothy Brenton, the Seattle police officer who was slain Halloween night.

Still, he said, he was unprepared for the outpouring of sympathy. As many as 15 posts per minute were being logged on the site Monday.

People from as far away as France and Mexico left comments. In the United States, posts came from Wisconsin, Michigan, Utah and California amid thousands from Washington state.

A constant stream of calls and visitors came into the city of Lakewood and its Police Department Monday. Mourners left cards and flowers outside the Police Department.

Jeff Brewster, Lakewood’s communications director, said he’d received calls from a New York police officer and a Long Island officer who both want to fly out to attend the memorial service on their own time. …

I knew that the accused perp would not be brought in alive. Not after killing four officers. I told a friend as much.

Condolences to the families and friends of the slain officers. I can imagine their grief. I know sorry doesn’t really cut it but I am sorry.

My goodness who let this insane, dangerous, person walk the streets? That judge should be removed from the bench. Heck you can get 30 days for a DUI without killing anyone. This guy got a walk after all of the violent crimes he committed? Good grief.

  • Peggy Sue

I’m glad this is over. Why a child rapist and repeat offender was out on the streets to begin with is inexplicable.

But I agree with candymarl. I’m not surprised this guy was shot on the spot. On the other hand, I have no doubt he was reaching for a gun either. He had nothing to lose after killing 4 cops, and another officer could have easily been wounded or killed.

I’m glad it’s over for the police and the local citizens. No pity parties for murderers.

  • Patrick Henry

The police officr who shot Clemmons did recognize him, and ordered him to stop and show his hands, appropiately..Clements refused to stop or raise his hands..and was shot.

He WAS armed with a gun He took off of One of the Police officers He murdered in Lakewood..

This had nothing to do with a revenge killing..

BTW..Clemmons friends knew he was going on a cop Killing Spree the day before it happened..They also assisted him, harbored him, and gave him Money for the Bail that put him back on the streets six days before he murdered the police..

Three of His friends have been arrested..Several more arrests are expected today..There is nothing
they can say to justify thier Acts..I have no doubt this was a Hate crime by Clemmons and that his friends were justifying His Henious Act in thier own Minds..even to the point of Ignoring a $125,000 reward..

I am curious to see what will be revealed about this Hate crime in coming Days..

  • Patrick Henry

BTW..I Talked to a person on the Pierce County Crime Tip Hot Line…He told me they had recieved calls from people who stated they were “GLAD” that Clemmons had Assassinated the four police Officers..

Yes..there is a culture of Multi Racial HATE in the United States..and I maintain this was a HATE Crime..Built upon attitudes of Civic leaders like jeremiah Wright and I hope the Media and Our society will denounce ALL those who promote or Excuse any type of racial Hatred or Bigotry in the Unted States…for the good of our nation..

The KKK and the Aryan Nation are not the only groups capable of racism and bigotry ..There is a Cadre of Black Americans who are trying to justify
the same Attitudes of hatred too..and we see the results from all the way from the Watts Riots to

People need to be educated on what Huckabee actually did and the time line of what happened with Clemmons.

Huckabee received strong recommendations from both the judge who put Clemmons behind bars and the parole board who were 5-0 on the subject. Indeed the prosecutor was against he decision which is not surprising given the prosecution mentality.

Knowing what he did then, the decision to commute and outrageous life sentence for burglary at the age of 16 down to a parole eligible 45 yeas was made.

The parole board let Clemmons go later on conditions, those conditions were broken and he landed in jail again. The only reason he was free was because the prosecution muffed the case by not producing the correct paperwork in a timely fashion.

With all of this history and the more grievous crimes occurring later, Huckabee has been unfairly slandered. Does he still get blame? He has to, he was Governor and made decisions that were often life or death decisions and those have the potential of ending horribly.

Consider the flip side, Huckabee had denied clemency to someone who was put behind bars for life without parole even though the parole board and the judge who put Clemmons behind bars strongly recommended clemency. What would we think then if the case were brought to our attention, we would think that it would be speak a cold hearted political nature that was self serving.

Clemmons killed those four people, and a breakdown within the justice system of two states played a far greater role than Huckabee being favorable to the request of his parole board and an Arkansas judge. In the feeding frenzy that is to come, I do not expect people to be wise or fair as the only thing anyone wants is a pound of flesh to pay for this horrible tragedy.

    • Cathy in Ks.

Thank-you chukmaty. I heard Gov. Huckabee’s statement earlier today on Hannity’s radio program. Gov. Huckabee says he commuted the sentence which was originally for over 100 years. Clemmons was as you stated only a teen-ager and apparently Clemmons was not armed when he committed his crime as a 16 year old.

It appears to me that Clemmons, at the age of 16, although already committing a burglary was not yet a hardened criminal. That seems to have come later. Correct me if I’m wrong but I also understood that Clemmons did serve 9 years of the commuted sentence of 46 years that Huckabee gave him and then became eligible for parole.

I’m no lawyer or law enforcement officer but it seems to me it would have been a gross miscarriage of justice to have sentenced Clemmons to over 100 years in prison for a burglary and/or robbery he committed without being armed. It seems ludicrous to hold Huckabee responsible for the murders of the police officers. There was just no way of knowing when Clemmons was 16 that he was going to turn into a cop killer many years down the road.

  • getfitnow

I’m sure I missed Obama speaking out about this tragedy, didn’t I? I mean, surely he had something to say about the slaughter of four police officers, right?

  • ziggy

I’m not comfortable with the way the media seems ready to wrap this story up as the work of a crazed killer with a prior record, leaving the all too obvious question, What else should anyone have expected?, as the final comment. Clemmons’ killing of 4 police officers looked as much like a planned and purposeful assassination as a random murder. The guy may have been someone else’s perfect disposable tool.

    • getfitnow

Perhaps this is the reason, ziggy: From GatewayPundit:

“The Seattle Blackfoot Soldiers, an offshoot of the Nation of Islam, celebrated cop killer Maurice Clemmons.”

      • ziggy

I just looked at “The Seattle Blackfoot Soldiers” website. I strongly suspect it’s a false-flag disinformation site put up by white supremacists. They do all sorts of crap like that to stir up racial anger.

I won’t insult anyone by posting the link. You can easily find it by Googling what’s in quotation marks up above, if you’re curious.

          I strongly suspect

Without proof, your point is meaningless.

          • ziggy

A very good thing for all here to bear in mind as they consider what they read.

I wrote the entire Blackfoot Soldiers site off as meaningless.

            • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

I guess we’ll find out if it’s real if/when they start the celebration of the killing of the officers as the website suggests. Seems like a strange site to be put up by “white supremacists”. If it is authentic, it is certainly not meaningless.

              • ziggy

Seems like a strange site to be put up by “white supremacists”.

Such things are done to create and reinforce the negative impressions they want people to have of the groups that they hate. It’s a common tactic among extremists. It’s used to a lesser extent but with increasing frequency in mainstream politics.

false-flag disinformation site put up by white supremacists

Ziggy, seriously, you should write for the show “Spooks”.

Or haven’t you come to understand there really IS a false flag op going down. It’s BO.

Personally, I think the stealth helo’s are awesome.

          • ziggy

Have a look at the website in question. It’s hard to know with certainty what brand of lunatic actually set it up, but it seems way too over-the-top to be a sales pitch for the sort of lunatics who supposedly did so.

            • http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/2009/11/27/what-i-now-love-about-the-holidays-thanks-to-the-crobonomy/ Silence Dogood

Good to see you perform once again. I always enjoy when the dance/spin troop Minions de Trolls are in town.

              Seriously woman/man, that was pathetic.

              • NomNomNom

imo the website (blackmalefelon) was designed by the same person who does (underprivelegedjournalism: “Welcome to UnderprivilegedJournalism. We publish content for numerous New Age black (Nubian) grass root movements such as the Yakub Muslims, National Black Foot Soldier Network (NBFSN), Yakub Islam, Blacks Against Israel (BAI), the Global Black Alliance (GBA) & even the GhettoBraggingRights. Before our emergence, many of the movements we publish content for did not have an Internet presence.
We are part of the UnderprivilegedMedia Network. As a matter of reference, we are a non traditional, 100% black publication that publishes updates, news and opinions from the afore mentioned groups.”
), and which lists slaughter lightfoot as its publisher (who is also a writer at ghetto bragging rights, apparently).
                there are oddities at blackmalefelon (no blogroll, no affiliated organizations, absence of any names of owner, no ads, 3 trackers, completely crazy hyperbolic commentary but with a disclaimer on its about page that it is against violence…);
jmo, all of these sites are very weird: they do not look quite real to me either.
there is something that seems to me off in the presentation, it lacks bite for the level of hostility displayed. it lacks coverage of topics it ought to have as well. it’s difficult to describe, one must simply go see.
                I am thinking more honeytrap.

                • NomNomNom

something else: there are numerous rebuttal comments to their posts: but there aren’t any angry diatribes in response to the challenges, and the rebuttal comments are left in place: that’s not very believable, jmo.
if the writers were really so angry they want white people to die, etc, I just don’t think they would be able to restrain themselves from responding.

                  • NomNomNom

                    here is an example:
                    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Report-FBI-paid-controversial-apf-120149424.html?x=0&.v=1
“A New Jersey blogger about to stand trial on charges he made death threats against federal judges apparently was paid by the FBI in its battle against domestic terrorism, according to a published report.
The Record of Bergen County reported Sunday that Hal Turner received thousands of dollars from the FBI to report on neo-Nazis and white supremacist groups and was sent undercover to Brazil.
Turner also claims the FBI coached him to make racist, anti-Semitic and other threatening statements on his radio show, but the newspaper also found many federal officials were concerned that his audience might follow up on his violence rhetoric.”

            • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Huh? You don’t think extremist Muslims are lunatics? You don’t think that Rev Wright is a lunatic? You don’t think black liberationists and L. Farrakhan is a lunatic?
This site looks and sounds right down their alley.

              • ziggy

                Hmm…

Yes, definitely; No, for the most part; and Yes, in excess of 50% of the time.

The site under discussion doesn’t look “real” for a number of reasons. Maybe it was done by someone who thinks batshit crazy is some sort of avant-garde art form.

I’m not comfortable with the way the media seems ready to wrap this story up as the work of a crazed killer…

And many of us are not comfortable with the way the 4th Estate shirked its responsibility and campaigned and became the de facto Ministry of Propaganda for a political candidate.

My Sister-in-Law just sent me an invitation to join the group page on Facebook: In The Memory of The Lakewood Officers. It’s being flooded with condolences. Nice effort for the families.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

The site was put up by a HS student and now has 136,000 members.

NQ…I was just filtered out and blocked again..while defending some of my Comments..as a rebuttal..to others..

Please keep this an open and fair debate…

    • http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/2009/11/27/what-i-now-love-about-the-holidays-thanks-to-the-crobonomy/ Silence Dogood

I don’t think you were blocked deliberately. We’ve all had comments eaten by the spam monster.

Just post a comment asking for whatever was filtered to be rescued. Posting the comment number (such as #comment-123456789) helps — its at the end of the URL, even after your post doesn’t show up.

      • Patrick Henry

No Silence Dogood…I have never had a problem so far until I Rebutted some of Dc girls Snarky remarks..she has gone out of her way to attack me personally here..as you know..and I I have been civil with making this debate personal attacks on commentors.. like she did..

I know she has her friends administrating NQ other than Larry..who I know since he started NQ ..and I respect him..

Explain how my rebuttal directed at Media girl got Kicked out..Do any of the administrators see comments during the filtering process..?

Why is it that my rebuttal has not been posted since I asked for that an Hour ago..?

        it makes me wonder…

No clue. I support free expression and hope its just a filter snafu, PH.

        • Peggy Sue

PH, I haven’t followed this thread but I have comments that hit the spam filter all the time. In fact, I may hold the NQ record! :0)

So, don’t take it personally. The spammy monster is fierce!

          Hummmm. You’re a “Patrick” and I’m a “Peggy.”

Maybe, Ps are the problem :0).

Patrick Henry as frustrating as it is, the spam filter has no masters or friends.

…Only sanitation engeneers who wade through the worst filth known to man or woman to rescue comments and they do it for free. LOL

I heard BO say “tal-e-ban” and I wanted to break into a song… Tal-e-0bannana, day light come and I want to go home.

I listen to the 3 goals. If anyone is still believing BO when he says 18 months good luck with the “conditions” on the ground.

What was VERY odd is how he concerned about “Nation building at home”. Huh?
