I probably fit into that 30 percent that lived at home. I had returned to my home state (and parents house) after a very rapid job change that afforded little time to find my own residence. During my stay, I paid my parents rent and utilities and did my share of house and yard work. I still stop by to do yard/house work as needed. How does that factor into the 30 percent you have used to generalize an entire age group? The survey is either incomplete or
you have cherry picked data for the purposes of your
article. Either way, you lend yourself zero credibility.

Then again, I was born in 1985 so feel free to dismiss everything I say.

uh yes, another pointless article from an over entitled, under educated boomer who had the government take care of all his or her financial responsibilities.

I will say that many older adults are moving back in with the parents.
You know, the same one’s who had there full secondary education paid for ( buy the youth now ) only to bow out when times got tough ( remember that oil shortage for 3 days in ’74) and then spend the money there parents earned on crap made by other lazy HIGHLY over paid boomers working there ” Long 28 hour work weeks” to afford both brand new cars and the boat that cost pennies on the dollar…

Look on the bright side though, atleast the kids can take care of you so your graying future can be somewhat the same as the Dog Fucking, under achieving 1950′s-1980′s era you were HANDED down from mom and dad and uncle sam.
You know, the era of FREE, FREE FREE and consume consume consume and let the kids pay for it later.

One more FUN FACT ( I know boomers hate those FACTS )
Maybe just get the kids should just QUIT the jobs thay have and live on FULL BENEFITS for 5, yes 5 straight years by CHOICE…
Oh wait, thats not possible anymore, Sorry about that…

It really has been a hard knock life for the boomer era, maybe just put in a little more effort and maybe just maybe, Oh wait a minte, there’s that EFFORT word….Sorry boomers, wouldnt want you to have those Pitty attacks your generation patented by CHOICE…

The house-less, under-employed chickens are coming home to roost that is all. Is it any surprise the next generation is getting the shaft and baby boomers never thought about the consequences of this all?
By blocking the next generation’s ability to leave home using the leverage of a decently paying job and affordable owned housing yes of course the children of baby boomers live back at home.

haha thanks for the entertainment! Found this post snuggled in with all the other posts about why Baby boomers suck. So this is somewhat refreshing.
But I have to ask – “Why are the all these “loser” kids moving home?” Could it be because there actually aren’t any jobs for them? I mean even entry level jobs not CEO positions.
And could the reason there be no jobs be somewhat related to *ahem* just some “mild” over-borrowing by their parents that led to a systemic crash of the entire economy.
Hmmmm did the boomers have to contend with this when they were coming of age? Right they oversaw the greatest period of prosperity in history and managed to use it up all for themselves.

Haha remember who gets to classify the preceding generation. Trust me, the name won’t resemble your parent’s generation (The Greatest Generation).

Half the kids living with there Boomers parents are actually helping the Boomers out with bills,I did,because I was renting a house and couldn’t loan my parents money but could share bills so they could pay their mortgage,they should have paid off 15 years ago but keep remortgaging.By the way many of us did pay our own way through college while paying out money for higher costs of living.Sorry your generation decided to export your own jobs before you even retired along with new jobs for younger ones,while letting banks and corporations screw us all over while you borrow large amounts of money Communist Chinese a Greatest Generation President Reagan was trying to help bankrupt along with other Communist,but you Boomers go and borrow large amounts of money which you aren’t paying back but your children and grandchildren will.So you can retire like your parents but still suck up jobs with Part time work loop hole you selfishly put in again taking more from younger generations.M

Yes, but mixed in with that arrogance was a nice heaping dose of FEAR. While FEARING your parents is not the ideal way to proceed in life or to grow as a human being, it is actually a few notches better than Sarah Silverman’s highly arrogant and completely unfunny youtube that I linked to in a prior message up above and that basically sums up the condescending viewpoint that many younguns have towards their elders in general.

I think the point was that they are moving back home, and in addition, not contributing to the running of the household (either by working outside the home, or helping inside with chores/cleaning up after themselves).

Baby boomers are 50 and older. I don’t think many are moving in with their parents, unless it’s to take care of them.

The baby boomer era was a long one – I think from the end of WW2 until around 1960 – so almost 20 years. Subsequent “eras” have been comprised of many fewer years.

The hippie era was for only part of those 20 years, and it was really mainly joined by people who were of a certain age during that period. Most boomers weren’t hippies.

Well stated, Peggy Sue. While we practiced duck and cover, the newer generation practiced whining when they didn’t get the gold star. While we hoped our birthdate didn’t mean a low draft number, they whined when they had to wait in the drive-thru for their super-sized fries.

Big disparity in life experiences.

IHe is extremely happy that we now live 800 metres from one of the worlds great surfing beaches.
