What A Contrast

So Barack Obama is finally making his highly touted trip abroad. What does he do when he is on his way to Afghanistan, the country about which he could not be bothered to actually hold a meeting as Chair of the Senate’s Subcommittee on European Affairs (and NATO)? He plays basketball. Hoops. Roundball. We are currently fighting a war in Afghanistan, and he spends part of his less than two whole days there playing a game. Wow. Have we not had enough of almost eight years of an adolescent in the White House?? Do we REALLY want another one?? From what I understand, he isn’t even all that great!! Yet, he spends all of this time on the campaign trail playing basketball. Have a debate?? Oh, he is WAY too busy for that!! But he can sure find time to go shoot some hoops! Bush has his bicycle, and Obama has his basketball. It boggles the mind.

MEANWHILE, Hillary continues to work for women and the military. That is what SHE has been spending her time doing. Not hanging out and playing some game, but actually working. In this video, she is fighting for the rights of women particularly as it relates to choice.

And, she took the time to mark the 160th Anniversary of the Seneca Falls Convention. This is her statement:

July 19, 2008

Statement of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on the 160th Anniversary of the Women’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York

Washington, DC – “Today we honor the trailblazers who 160 years ago rejected the status quo and gathered together in Seneca Falls, New York, to demand economic and political opportunities for American women. Thanks to the courage of 68 determined women and 32 brave men, generations of Americans who followed in their footsteps pushed our democracy closer to fulfilling the promise of opportunity for all. It took almost 75 years for women to win the right to vote, and another century for women to see gains in employment and education and economic status. But the ideal of women’s rights never died, and those fighting for it never gave up the struggle.

This anniversary gives us the chance to reflect on our progress, assess the present, and look to the future. Just as we are the beneficiaries of brave generations past, we must also be the benefactors to generations to come. We must appreciate our progress, but also acknowledge areas where we still fall short of our ideals.

As a nation, we’ve widened the circle of freedom and opportunity but while we’ve come a long way, there is still so much work to do. It is our responsibility to those who gathered in Seneca Falls to keep their spirit of determination alive — to keep standing up to inequality, shattering glass ceilings, breaking down barriers, and opening doors for women across the country and around the world.”

While Obama gallivants around in his “O” plane, playing games and pretending that all of the world leaders support his plans (which are HILLARY’S plans he stole), Clinton is working hard in the Senate for the American people. I don’t know about you, but I want the hard worker as president, not the game player. But that’s just me. And about 18,000,000 others…

This is the lamest post I have seen in a long time…he shot two baskets while talking to servicemen and women….which is what any politician would have done. you are digging so deep to find an attack point it is pathetic. hillary and bill should be so lucky to be able to shoot a basket…clumsy as they are! i guess you would rather obama be chasing skirts on his overseas trips like old bill has a habit of doing?

        • imustprotest

give me a break! he shot 2 baskets…it was total phot-op set up city. Oh, he just happened to walk in and they just happened to be playing basketball so he spontaneously threw 2 baskets while the cameras just happened to be running….Okaaaayyyy then. Whatachump.

        • Karma

Yeah, it is so Presidential to be shooting hoops in Chicago twice as long as campaigning.

On the very day the Gov states he wants to call in the National Guard for his old district…no less.

I guess brushing up on that three pointer was more important to his supporters then actually solving probelms.

Clumsy? Your messiah bowled a 37, that is pathetic. The typical 4 year old can beat that score. But Obama is accustomed to residing in the gutter — he spent 20 years in Wright’s filthy church.

    Teleprompter broke again.

Let me be absolutely clear,” Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, said today at a press conference in Amman, Jordan. “Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s. It will be a strong friend of Israel’s under a McCain…administration. It will be a strong friend of Israel’s under an Obama administration. So that policy is not going to change.

          • I won’t join O’s freak show

Has he parted the Red Sea on this trip?

            • JozefAL

Well, in all fairness (something the Obama camp doesn’t really grok), Obama’s little excursion didn’t have Eilat or Aqaba on the schedule. (If Baracky could manage to part the Red Sea without even being on the Gulf of Aqaba, then I think we’d all have reason to be truly afraid. Even Moses had to actually BE on-site to do the parting–even if scholars don’t accept that it was the REAL Red Sea.)

As of today, some of the up echilan are questioning if Obama graduated from harvard or was law review professor..his lies are paper thin.

She doesn’t trip over her tongue because her brain is fully engaged all the time. Obama has a disconnect because he is just mouthing the words. His performance in the debates should have been enough to eliminate him as a candidate. His umm and uhhhh are a curiosity and at times, he stops speaking completely for several seconds and then he picks up. I wonder if there is a word or thought he goes to, like someone under hypnosis, to connect? Hillary’s sanity and intellegence is missed a great deal in this house. She made him look like a bumbling high school freshman.

I don’t know about that. Andrea Michell has done a turn around, and she was a Koolaid kid. Here is what CNN is now saying about BHO.
This is a repost from politicallydrunk.blogspot.com
commonly known as Politically Drunk om Power. This site has been very helpful to PUMA’S and is not into party politics.

    Tuesday, July 22, 2008
CNN Reporters: Obama “Presumptuous” & Negotiations Overstep His Authority as a Senator
Last night on Anderson Cooper 360, two CNN political analysts charged that Senator Obama overstepped his authority as a United States Senator in acting as a negotiator with the Iraqi government and publicly disclosing statements made during those interviews. During an interview with Anderson Cooper, David Gergen, CNN’s Senior Political Analyst stated, “Barack Obama made the first mistake of his trip, in my judgment, in releasing a statement in which he said exactly what Maliki had said in those conversations.

We have a long tradition in this country that we only have one president at a time. He’s the commander in chief and the negotiator in chief. I cannot remember a campaign which a rival seeking the presidency has been in a position negotiating a war that’s under way with another party outside the country.

I think he leaves himself open to the charge tonight that he’s meddling, that this is not his role, that he can be the critic, but he’s not the negotiator. We have a president who does that. So, I think the underlying facts support him, but I think it would be a real mistake — and I think it was a mistake — to get into these conversations and let it be used politically. ”

Gergens comments were later echoed by a second CNN Analyst, Gloria Borger, who charged, “I do agree with David. And Candy, in her earlier piece, talked about walking the fine line between being this candidate and being presumptuous. And I think that he may just have crossed that, because, you know, it is a tradition. You don’t talk about these private conversations. And it’s not up to Barack Obama right now to negotiate troop withdrawals. It’s up to Barack Obama to be on a fact-finding mission, which is indeed what he has said he was on. ”

Gergen and Borger have it right, Senator Obama is not the President and in fact is not even the official presidential nominee of his party. Obama’s trip to Iraq is a taxpayer funded “Fact-Finding” mission in which he has no authority granted to him by congress nor the administration to engage in negotiations. His actions yesterday were indeed ‘presumptuous’ and violated his duties as a United States Senator.
The President of The United States is responsible for the course of foreign policy, and although Obama has the right to question or criticize that foreign policy, he has no constitutional authority to act in a negotiative role with foreign dignitaries.

The current administration is in ongoing negotiations with the Iraqi government concerning the role of US forces in assisting that government; a government that has been strengthened by a ‘surge’ that Barack Obama opposed and claimed would fail. Obama overstepped his role as a Senator and potentially undermined ongoing negotiations by engaging in diplomatic negotiations for his political gain.
Obama actions yesterday should be condemned by other members of congress, just as former President Carter’s actions in Palestine earlier this year were condemned by congressional members. Obama is not the President and he is on a taxpayer funded fact-finding mission. Senator Obama’s actions in Iraq yesterday clearly demonstrated his use of this trip for political purposes; the military should immediately pull funding for the trip and charge the Obama campaign for the millions of dollars that this overseas farce is costing.
No Congressional Member has the authority to engage in negotiations or dictate US foreign policy. Yesterday’s actions show a clear arrogance and lack of respect for the office of the presidency and state department

Listening to this remarkable woman, I feel like the Obama propagandists/manufacturers and the media that is propping up their phony make-believe candidate is really committing treason on this country.
We’ve suffered through 8 years of total ineptitude. Cheney and his friends have grown rich on destruction, and the rest of us are miserable. The life we enjoyed in the 1990s is a distant memory.
And here is this woman who is so damn smart, and such a hard worker. Even her opponents do not dispute the fact that she is tough, dedicated, efficient, and hard-working.
We had this unique opportunity to repair all the damage of the past 8 years and even catapult ourselves forward. And the propagandists and peddlers force fed this phony cotton-candy candidate and people ate it up. I mean, we are all in this boat together. Why are people so determined to make us drown?
There has got to be a way to make the SDs realize their mistake and vote for Hillary.

Exactly this is the fall of our democracy. It happened in ancient rome. People are fat, lazy, and want eye-candy. Gone are the days when progress and the experience to prove it mean something. To America if it looks good, its got to be good. I feel for us, because at this point I don’t see any change of attitude of people. Even though some are hurting, they would rather opt for what feels good to them than something that would actually be good for them.

Do you want some spinach or chocolate cake?

It makes me think they want Obama because Hillary makes them look as inferior as they really are; Obama on the other hand is their equal, which is nothing to be proud of.

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

What a surprise, Karmandu! Oh, wait – not it isn’t. Clinton continues to work HARD for the American people – she sent out an email today asking for signatures on a petition to protect Women’s Health.

It just boggles the mind that this guy has gotten as far as he has – my fave claim for why some Obama supporters picked him was that his policies are so close to Clinton’s, so…Well, of COURSE they are – she wrote them, and he stole them!! Frankly, I’d rather go with the smart one who actually KNOWS the policies instead of the one who can only read a teleprompter (and not even that sometimes).

The SDs really do need to stand up for the person who is the BEST choice, and who can actually WIN!!! And that is not Obama…

    • Lou

Now he’s dumped her policies and is stealing McCain’s. Any coincidence? Is it because he doesn’t want us to know what he is really about? Or is it his campaign strategy to win based on “the same policies?”

      • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I stand corrected (and sorry for the typo above)! Apparently, it IS his strategy to not have to come up with anything of his own on which HE has to take a STAND. That simply will not do.

And abt his taking on the role of already BEING president?? That is dangerous indeed. Great comment abt that, Lou. That point needs to be shouted from the rooftops. Not only is he overstepping his bounds, but I have to wonder if that could be considered treasonous (remember when the Republicans were in talks with the Iranians against Jimmy Carter? There was a Congressional hearing abt it, and they were basically let off the hook. But I am not sure this is all that different – oh wait – then, they did not issue press releases or whatever abt it!). Just wondering…

I might add, I guarantee you that CLINTON would not be pulling that, even if she was having those discussions in private, she would not be broadcasting it to the world!!

I have to say, I am furious that he is taking this trip on OUR dime – his big Around The World Campaign trip funded by US??? Oh, hell no!!!

  • Ferdberfle

Every time I see that blithering Oblowhard on TV I think I’m in a Twilight Zone conjured up by Rod Serling’s evil twin Axelrod.

  • Lou

How many times has he overstepped his bounds and got USA in trouble with other countires? anyone lose count yet? Condi is always going behind him to clean up the mess. She has to go and pay these people a visit to clear things up.

The media better watch out though, if Obama gets POTUS and the media questions him finally then, THEY will be called racist too. What goes around comes around. Better to judge a candidate on their competence, experience, and qualifications- but then where does that leave Obama? Playing hoops.

    • wac for hillary

I think he has overused the racist label. In fact, using the word “racist” so much is going to wind up hurting the very people who do face real discrimination–and that is sad.

      • Northwest rain

You’re right — so what if someone calls me racist — I really do NOT give a damned. THEY are the racists. And to the white liberals who believe that ONLY whites are racist — you idiots are dumber than rocks. Ethnocentrism — dislike of the other is older than humans.

All the while sexism is ignored — and this is the blatant, deliberate sexism.

So we have a guy wearing a mask who could pass as someone of color — this guy grew up where being someone of color was an asset. And this sack of racist sh*t is going to lecture us about racism — I DO NOT think so.

This guy is a two faced freak — who is bat shit crazy.

Seeing as Patty is my US Senator I can feel proud to give her a vote. Now when the delegates wake up and demand Clinton be voted at the Convention I’ll hold a modicum of respect for the Democratic Party.

Us third party members may be smaller, but principle drives our reasons for being in third parties.

I’m still not sure what to do about Rossi and Gregoire. She came out for barky early and hard. Rossi is an ass. Last time around, he tried to claim he won before all the votes were counted, tried to get his kids into my children’s school and prctically shut down the place with all the security. He ‘presumed’ he won and acted like it. I laughed my ass of when he lost.

      • Lou

Gregoire is MObamas best friend..difficult choice for you. They are having a UNITY parade in WA in early August. Everyone is to bring their umbrellas as a symbol of unity. Time to bash their party. I’m not in WA

      • wac for hillary

It’s an easy choice for me–any one who backs Obama over Hillary doesn’t get my vote. I’ll either abstain or vote for their opponent. I’m tired of my representatives at all levels looking out for their own interests first.

      • Northwest rain

I will not vote for either.

Last time I held my nose and voted for Gregoire — but not this time.

Gregoire is so arrogant in her support of Obama.

However — IF and only IF — she comes out as a Super Delegate FOR Hillary and shows leadership FOR Hillary — I will consider and vote for her.

But so many of the local democrats in WA have come out for Obama — I’ll only be voting for Jay Inslee and at the point McCain. Easy votes.

        PUMA

        • yttik

I’m not supporting Gregoire. But Rossi is an ass. The first time around, 20% of my country abstained from voting for governor at all.

I’ve written her several times telling her I am specifically not voting for her because I believe her endorsement of Obama shows poor judgment. I’ll not campaign or contribute to any Dem in this state who endorsed Obama.

Patty Murray will certainly get my vote. She came out early for Hillary and flat out said, I don’t want a president I have to train.

I guess I did not follow the “Tour” closely. Was Ibama in Afghanistan for ONLY TWO HOURS?

That is unreal. I’ve spent more time eating lunch.

Two hours to confer with commanders and Ibama is shooting hoops and getting in photo ops.

That’s some foriegn cred he’s building up.

    • Darryl

Yeah, believe you me, most people realize whats going on. This little trip makes him look retarded. I mean it was bad enough that he had this “illusion” of experince and judgement around him but then he had to actually believe it himself and go there. Now that he is there, he looks completely dumb.

My understanding is he was / is there for 2 days.

      • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I think that is right – not two full days, though.

The other piece of this is his claim to care so much abt what happens in Afghanistan when he has done NOTHING in his Senate role to DEAL with Afghanistan!

    • wac for hillary

I feel sorry for the troops; you know they had to spend a whole lot longer than two hours getting ready for Obama’s “Cliff’s Notes” visit.

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

He was there for a little longer – two hours was how long he spent at one of our military bases, meeting with the “commanders on the ground” (you know, the ones he said he’d listen to, but then disagrees with – just like Bush!), and shooting hoops to show he is just “one of the guys”, who happens to be incredibly arrogant, narcissistic, etc., etc., etc.

      • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I might add, that time does NOT make up for him not ever bothering to have a committee hearing on Afghanistan, or not going there BEFORE this. Now he is using it as just one more stepping stone to get where he wants to be, not that he really cares abt what is going on there. If he did, he would have been doing the work needed for Afghanistan, Europe, and NATO. IMHO, that is.

And really – he thinks that this short visit is going to MAGICALLY give him all of the foreign policy credentials in which he is sorely lacking? Seriously? A week or so? Well, golly gee – I guess that makes a while BUNCH of us more experienced than Obama in “foreign policy”! I’m betting many of us have more work experience, too. Who knew that we just had to ride in on a little Unity Unicorn and we’d have people falling at our feet??! It’s the unicorn, right?

      Thanks – I appreciate it!

I think people, small-minded people, especially in the DNC, are incredibly threatened by her. She is just heads and shoulders above so many of the other people in the House and Senate (talking to YOU, Pelosi, Jackson, Jr., Kerry, to name a few), that they care more abt beating HER than doing what is best for the country. That is why it is so important to get all of those people who have worked against DEMOCRACY out of office. They do not deserve to be there. They know she is the best choice, and they are too small and insecure to rise above it, sadly. IMHO, that is.

  • http://mmb silverfox

John McCain or Hillary Clinton for POTUS.

there truly is no other choice.

these are trying times…not for the faint of heart.

i am more afraid of an obamacan reign than 4 years of Sen John McCain(who has integrity,, is a patriot, and may surprise us in some very good ways….i’m in for giving him the opportunity to show us what he can do).

You just have to watch the many, MANY verbal blunders this man has used not only in our country but now overseas with world leaders, getting coverage & representing the USA. Now also look at the political situations in many of these countries involving opposing views, weaponry & the pursuit of it (Venezeula & Russia), Iran & the nuclear situation, the list goes on. And the thought of this bumbling, inexperienced puppet in charge of our country & not to mention the miliary, is frightening. Take away his teleprompter, and the true BO is shown. The 300 advisors can’t help him there. He’s lost in his own thoughts…how few they are…

Word as of yesterday is there is under the radar stuff going on with SD’s and they need to have your support in a blog nod or whatever. They need some good energy sent their way. It takes backbone and they need to know we are behind them.

        • Seattle Moss

How about this kind of energy.

This is why Obama is now toast!

          By McCain

          By Obama

Oh, my God. You all should have seen Chris Matthews and Roger Simon on Hardball last night. They think Obama’s shooting hoops in Kuwait was the greatest thing in the world, particularly the three-pointer. From the transcript:

MATTHEWS: Let me go to the politics just generally. I hope we can show pictures now of Barack Obama over the weekend in Afghanistan with the troops.

Now, these are amazing pictures. Just, Roger, give me your sense of how it‘s going to hit the person watching in Iraq. Here‘s some pictures from Iraq of him with the uniforms and fatigues in camo there, but also those pictures of basketball-playing over there in Kuwait.

    SIMON: Yes.

    MATTHEWS: They‘re pretty impressive.

SIMON: The optics are all very good at this trip. The beginning of this trip is so good, Senator Obama may want to call off the end and just keep running the videotape.

He goes into a gym. Everybody, all the service people there cheer. He shoots a basket. It goes through the hoop. He‘s obviously standing there with troops. They seem to like him and smiling. They don‘t seem to feel that Barack Obama wants to desert them and to leave them in Iraq.

    [snip]

    MATTHEWS: Yes.

You know, Roger, sports fans everywhere make judgments about political figures. When George Bush threw that strike at Yankee Stadium at 9/11 right down the right over the plate, you didn‘t have to be a screaming, outlandish right-winger to think, wow, that‘s great for the country.

And then you see this guy, lean and mean, hitting that three-pointer from way outside. Could this be the bookends we‘re looking at, the—the athletic bookends of this—this whole contest over foreign policy?

SIMON: I‘m amazed, looking at him, how he played that shot for everything it was worth. He must have bounced the ball four or five times before he took that shot. It went in. And then he made a cutting motion, saying, that‘s hit. I‘m not going to do it again. I have done everything I have come for.

There’s more, and Matthews continued the gush into the next segment, in which he interviewed Trent Lott. Lott had the good sense to look embarrassed.

You can see the videos here:

    Matthews, Simon, and Andrea Mitchell”
    Matthews and Lott

Michael Jordan for President! What could make more sense? If you think Obama can shoot hoops…

    • http://liberalrapture.com scott in jupiter

You should see Chris Tingle looking at the surveillance cam of barky in the john. He really gets excited.

    • wac for hillary

“Lean and mean”–I agree with the “mean” part, just not in the way Matthews intends. I’m glad I’m not overseas now; I’ll bet we are really getting laughed at.

I called Nancy and while I left a message I played Hillary’s video. I asked her why she had to stick her nose into the primary process and work to deny us this magnificent women and stick us with the guy who is playing basket ball in Afganistan instead of holding a single hearing to ensure the well being of our young men and women in uniform.

Then I called Betty McCollum and kicked her in the schin too. Told here there is a great woman called the Honorable Susan Geartner who I would love to see take her place in the congress. Susan is a MN super delegate for Hillary.

  • PayAttention

I come here every few days just to check in on you guys… I worry that if you’re left alone too long, you’ll get into mischief.

The more comments I read (doesn’t matter what the diary is about, or who wrote it) the more I am convinced that just under the surface of each and every one of you is a raging hatred and fear of black/brown/non-white people. Oh, you’ll think of anything and everything to disguise your hatred, and pretend it’s really your fervent support of Hillary that spurs you on in your mission to expose Obama for the charlatan that he is, but it is pretty obvious that your real issue is Obama is black. Your words may accuse him of arrogance, but they really say: “He is not white. He is different, and scary, and threatening, and must be put in his place!”

Luckily, there are just a few of you. Thankfully, you aren’t being taken seriously. Mercifully, you’ll fade away into your quiet little lives of desperation, and your influence, such as it is, will dissipate like… like… like a bad smell once the garbage has been taken out.

Obama is our next President. Get used to it. Start thinking like your children, most of whom don’t see “color” the way adults do. Start thinking of their future. McCain will have us in perpetual wars and our children and their children will live in constant fear.

    Obama is our next President.

And if we’re so small, so insignificant, so pathetic . . . why bother? Go plan the victory party.

Btw, I don’t ask my children for advice. They ask me. It’s one of those weird family things: you take advice from those who have lived long enough to have a modicum of wisdom. I know it’s foreign to you but it does exist.

The thing that upsets me about what Hillary is talking about in this video about the contraception rules that Bush IS implementing (My daughter has told me her birth control pills are not covered in her health insurance policy) is that the Repugs don’t care about babies, the corporations need more workers is the main push against Choice issues. I know many think its a religious attitude and I suppose on an ideal level it may be, but we, the citizens are considered like worker ants and Consumers. That is our only VALUE to the Corporate Elites.
