It’s Katie Couric’s Turn to Interview Obama Tonight

That first interview yesterday with ABC News’s Terry Moran didn’t turn out as well as expected. But, if the clip below is any indication, Katie Couric — one of the three network anchors accompanying Obama on his closely-controlled travels — won’t give Obama a free pass either:

Today, CBS Anchor Katie Couric Says Barack Obama “Raised Some Eyebrows” For Saying That He Would Still Not Support The Surge Knowing What He Knows Now.:

KATIE COURIC: He also raised some eyebrows, by the way, when he said knowing what he knows now, he would still not support the surge, the addition of some 30,000 additional troops last year, and that is largely being credited with bringing the level of violence in Iraq way down. ironically that’s one of the reasons Senator Obama can even think about proposing up to three military brigades to Afghanistan, which he calls the front line in the war of terror.” (CBS’ “Early Show,” 7/22/08)

RECOMMENDED: Read Larry Johnson’s post last night, “Obama and McCain Clueless on Afghanistan (Updated).”

Here’s more “opposition research” from a McCain press release (which any of you can sign up to receive via his Web site):

ARLINGTON, VA — Today, Barack Obama will sit down with CBS News for an interview to be aired on the CBS “Evening News.” Please find below a reminder that while Barack Obama was trying to score political points in the Democratic primaries by calling the surge a failure, CBS News was reporting the progress being made in Iraq because of the surge:

BARACK OBAMA ON THE SURGE

In January 2007, Barack Obama Opposed The Surge:

Barack Obama Said The Surge Would Actually Worsen Sectarian Violence In Iraq. Obama: “I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse. I think it takes pressure off the Iraqis to arrive at the sort of political accommodation that every observer believes is the ultimate solution to the problems we face there. So I am going to actively oppose the president’s proposal.” (MSNBC’s “Response To The President’s Speech On Iraq,” 1/10/07)

In July 2007, Barack Obama Said The Surge Had Not Worked:

Barack Obama Said The Surge Had Not Worked In Iraq. Obama: “My assessment is that the surge has not worked and we will not see a different report eight weeks from now.” (NBC’s “The Today Show,” 7/18/07)

In November 2007, Barack Obama Said The Surge Strategy Was Not Working And That America Was “Actually Worsening” The Situation In Iraq:

Barack Obama Said The Surge Has Not Worked, And Had Potentially Worsened The Situation In Iraq. Obama: “Finally, in 2006-2007, we started to see that, even after an election, George Bush continued to want to pursue a course that didn’t withdraw troops from Iraq but actually doubled them and initiated a search and at that stage I said very clearly, not only have we not seen improvements, but we’re actually worsening, potentially, a situation there.” (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 11/11/07)

CBS ON THE SURGE

In July 2007, CBS Reporter David Martin Reported That American And Civilian Casualty Rates Had Decreased:

CBS Reporter David Martin Reported That “American Casualties In July Are The Lowest Since The Troop Surge Began In February, And Civilian Casualties Are Down A Third.” Martin: “With one day left in the month, American casualties in July are the lowest since the troop surge began in February, and civilian casualties are down a third. US officials attribute that to the dismantling of networks which make roadside bombs and to American soldiers protecting the local population. It would only take a few spectacular attacks to reverse those trends, but even critics of the war strategy are encouraged.” (CBS “CBS Evening News,” 7/30/07)

In November 2007, CBS Anchor Katie Couric And Reporter David Martin Acknowledged The Success Of The Surge:

In November 2007, CBS Anchor Katie Couric And Reporter David Martin Acknowledged The Number Of U.S. Casualties In Iraq Are Down. Couric: “Clearly Iraq remains a very dangerous country, but the number of attacks and the number of US casualties are down. From the Pentagon, here’s David Martin.” Martin: “Twenty-eight combat dead in November. Compare that to 120 killed last May. Even a hard core critic like Democratic Congressman John Murtha, who once pronounced the troop surge a failure, is impressed.” Rep. Murtha: “No, I think–I think the surge is working.” (CBS’ “CBS Evening News,” 11/30/07)

Is this standard, for Obama to meet private with the Saudi King? Sorry, but he’s so naive I really fear what kind of intelligence he would just reveal in a careless effort to try to impress Abdullah:

After attending a banquet at King Abdullah’s Beit Al Urdan palace Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, hitched a ride -lliterally – to the Amman airport with the King.

Abdullah drove himself – with Obama riding shotgun – from the palace to the airport in a silver Mercedes 600 series with blacked out windows.

The King – in the driver’s seat – raced onto the tarmac and came to an abrupt halt, stopping on a dinar, just a few feet away from one of Senator Obama’s pre-positioned secret service agents.

The King’s car was followed by a squadron of myriad Mercedes filled with the King’s security forces.

The Senator and the King got out of the car, spoke on the tarmac for a few minutes and then shook hands. Obama then boarded his plane, without the King, to fly to Tel Aviv.

Katie Couric should be tried for treason right along with George Bush’s impeachment.

  • imustprotest

Didn’t Katie Couric bring up the issue of sexism against Hillary in the primaries.

  • http://me414@wordpress.com Mary Ellen

I have the feeling that Katie will just give Obama a pass as she starts to drool over the media rock star, Obama. Besides, if she doesn’t, she knows that Obama will never give her another interview, that’s the way it works. I hope she remembers not to wear green and is donning her Burqa for the Messiah.

  • AF catfish

Yes – I think that woke her up. Katie’s been through a lot as CBS anchor and I believe she’ll be a tougher interviewer now than she was a few years ago.

  • NOBama in August

I think she brought it up after the primaries were over.

I thought her interview with Hillary was back was terrible. Very disappointing.

This is a good Israel newspaper online in English. Obama has now landed in Israel.

They also have a write up about Katie..this quote is at the end of this link:

    http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1004185.html

This is Couric’s first visit to Israel, to cover Barack Obama. “He’s a fascinating man. I’m here also in order to get a look into his foreign policy.”

And she promises to return another time.

“My mother is Jewish, but I’ve been raised as a Presbyterian. I’m interested in finding out more about these roots.”

She is also curious about the various scandals involving Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and admires Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni of whom she says: “She’s an impressive woman. Is she popular in Israel?”

  • imustprotest

Even so I think she took a lot of heat for even bringing up then.

Oh it turns out they had a private meeting before:

Their joint ride to the airport follows their closed door meeting this evening and a dinner reception at the palace.

His Royal Majesty issued a statement announcing that “His Majesty King Abdullah II stressed during talks this evening with US Senator Barack Obama (Democrat, Illinois) that ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and achieving a just settlement to the Arab-Israeli conflict tops the priorities of the people of the Middle East. During the meeting, King Abdullah reasserted the need to establish an independent Palestinian state on all Palestinian land in the West Bank and Gaza, saying it is the key to a final settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.”

Is this standard – for a naive presidential candidate to get a private meeting with the King?

  • Mr. X

Obama is the Pampers candidate. You always have to keep cleaning up after his ass from all the bullshit.

  • AF catfish

One thing Obama always falls for, in my journalism textbook it says to leave some time at the end of your interviewee’s answer. Many will get nervous and feel compelled to fill up the silence with more words. That’s when they tend to reveal something juicy.

Surely these Middle East leaders know this trick too, and as we’ve seen on this trip, Obama tends to blabber a little too much.

  • MaryPat

Or maybe she will feel she has nothing to lose by being a fly in the “Everybody Loves Barry” ointment. On a practical level, she’ll get more notice by being tough with him and getting a few good sound bytes than by acting like the rest of the press groupies.

I’ve been hearing today that a couple of Obama advisors have made “Freudian slip” comments to the travelling press corps–talking like the boss is already POTUS. The trickle-down theory of self-entitlement in action.

But if those types of grandiose comments don’t clue in the MSM that they are being played for suckers, nothing will.

Obama is unraveling. He wanted the surge to fail so badly he cannot even admit it has been successful. Due to the success it will allow withdrawal of troops as Iraqi forces take over the law enforcement. If Obama gets elected the surge is a gift for him, otherwise Obama would be trying to pull out with chaos on his hands.

AMMAN, Jordan, July 22 — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama Tuesday defended his proposal to withdraw U.S. forces from Iraq over a 16-month period and send more troops to Afghanistan, despite what he acknowledged was the opposition to any pullout timeline from the U.S. commander in Iraq, Army Gen. David H. Petraeus. [skip]

In Ramadi, Obama saw firsthand Iraq’s bitter political rivalries. Ali Hatem Suleiman, a top Awakening tribal leader who was at the meeting, said they asked Obama to support the tribes — and not the Sunni Islamic parties that rejoined Iraq’s government over the weekend. They also told him that a security pact with the United States, currently being negotiated, should wait until a new U.S. administration “because the Iraqi parliament does not represent Iraqis well.”

Obama asked the tribal leaders whether Iraq’s security forces were ready to take over security, said Suleiman. They informed him that while Iraq’s forces had improved, the province was still fragile and faced threats from al-Qaeda in Iraq.

“You can pull out and withdraw all the forces in Iraq, but you have to keep the Marines in our province because we still have problems with the Islamic parties and we can face a bad situation at any moment,” Suleiman said they told Obama.

They also warned Obama to be cautious with his plan to withdraw U.S. combat forces. “You have think carefully about the area,” they told Obama, according to Suleiman. The tribal leaders expressed concern about neighboring Iran gaining influence in Iraq.

“We told him that if your party wins the elections, you have to keep the promise that the United States gave to us, which is to rebuild a new Iraq and to fix the mistakes done by the politicians,” Suleiman said.

Will he listen to the tribal leaders? To the generals?

    MESSAGE FROM HILLARY

    Dear Lou,

Since 2001, I have served as the honorary chair of HillPAC, an organization dedicated to helping working families. It is our goal to fight for a better future for every child, and for every family. To keep fighting for those who get up every day, no matter what the odds, and never give in. For those who never back down, and those who always stand their ground. HillPAC works to elect Democratic candidates to office who share these same ideals and goals and I’m proud to serve as the honorary chair and I hope you will join me in this mission.Right now, I’m working with HillPAC to lead the fight on one very important issue, and we need your help.

The Bush White House is working to rewrite the definition of abortion in federal regulations to include common forms of birth control. This would undermine women’s health and put family planning services in danger. Simply, it puts women at risk — it could even prevent victims of sexual assault from receiving emergency contraceptives.

I need your help to speak up for the health of millions of American women who are in danger, once again, from the latest assault from the Bush administration.

Will you join me in sending a strong message to Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt to put women’s health ahead of right-wing ideology?

Click here to send a message to the Bush administration asking them to protect women’s health.

Imagine being told common forms of contraception like birth control pills could now fall under the definition of an abortion. This is another assault by the extreme right on the rights and health of women everywhere. They will do anything in their power to impose their beliefs — no matter what the risk to women.

We’ve worked hard to guarantee women have access to a full range of health and family planning services, and we can’t let the right wing undermine those efforts. This issue is far too important not to act, so I hope you’ll join HillPAC and me today in speaking out to protect women’s health.

Tell Bush’s HHS Secretary to protect women’s health!

Thank you for all your support. I’m so happy that we are still working together on vitally important issues like this one.

    Sincerely,
    Hillary Rodham Clinton

Please sign the petition for Hill to help stop this.

No he will not listen. Gordon Brown has already backtracked from specific timetables, even though he’s currently withdrawing troops:

The Prime Minister, who visited Iraq at the weekend, acknowledged that the rate of reduction of British troop numbers was not as rapid as he had hoped.

After previously offering optimistic targets for drawing down troops, Mr Brown was careful to not set specific timetables.

David Cameron accused the Prime Minister of making “premature announcements” last year that raised expectations about when British troops would be home.

The remaining British force is based in Basra and are involved in training Iraqi servicemen.

Mr Brown said he envisaged a “fundamental change of mission” after the end of the year.

He said: “Of course, future decisions will be based – as I have always said – on the advice of our military commanders on the ground. But just as last year we moved from combat to ‘overwatch’, we would expect a further fundamental change of mission in the first months of 2009.”

Mr Brown said that the security situation in Basra had been “transformed” since Nouri Maliki, the Iraqi Prime Minister, launched Operation Charge of the Knights against the militias in the city last March.

Katie is desperate for redemption and will pounce on Obama for the ratings and play she would get.

Hillpac. Hillary is working hard and has a new pac.
    Interesting.

    About HillPAC
    The Mission Of HILLPAC

HILLPAC is committed to electing candidates who are dedicated to the principle that by coming together and working as a community, we can improve opportunity and security for all Americans.

HILLPAC works to elect people who want to ensure our country lives up to the ideals of our nation’s founders and embodies the values of the Democratic Party, dedicated to a better future for every child, from every family.

HILLPAC recognizes that the Democratic Party shares the priorities of the American people, while the priorities of the Republican Party are set by the special interests. That is why we work to elect Democrats across the country and to majorities in the U.S. Congress.

Under the presidency of George W. Bush, America has lost opportunities on the environment, the economy, education, health care, civil rights, education, foreign policy, and the Supreme Court. We’ve reversed the tremendous progress made during the 90s under a Democratic president.

HILLPAC believes we can make a difference by electing Democrats who will work for universal health care, a strong middle class, energy independence, an end to global warming, and a responsible return of our troops from Iraq.

We believe that this election is a turning point in America’s history, and that all Democrats must work together toward a White House victory and veto-proof majorities in both houses of Congress.

Working together, we can achieve anything. Our unity is the key to victory, and our differences with each other pale in comparison to the differences we have with the Republicans and their misplaced priorities.

HILLPAC respects voters and works to protect their votes. We believe that every vote should be counted and that voters’ voices should be heard, not just on Election Day but every day.

Obama whether out of arrogance or fear, seems to be on the same track. I don’t know anyone who likes this war. But the surge has provided some stability and the violence is down. Not to admit that makes Obama look like an arrogant ass [which frankly, is quite okay with me because I think that's his true nature]. McCain was for kicking Russia out of the G8 before he was against it.

McCain supported moving “toward normalization of relations” with Cuba. Now he believes the opposite.

McCain believed the United States should engage in diplomacy with Hamas. Now he believes the opposite.

McCain believed the United States should engage in diplomacy with Syria. Now he believes the opposite.

McCain is both for and against a “rogue state rollback” as a focus of his foreign policy vision.

McCain used to champion the Law of the Sea convention, even volunteering to testify on the treaty’s behalf before a Senate committee. Now he opposes it.

McCain was against divestment from South Africa before he was for it.

  • kellie

McCain recently claimed that he was the “greatest critic” of Rumsfeld’s failed Iraq policy. In December 2003, McCain praised the same strategy as “a mission accomplished.” In March 2004, he said, “I’m confident we’re on the right course.” In December 2005, he said, “Overall, I think a year from now, we will have made a fair amount of progress if we stay the course.”

McCain has changed his mind about a long-term U.S. military presence in Iraq on multiple occasions, concluding, on multiple occasions, that a Korea-like presence is both a good idea and a bad idea.

McCain said before the war in Iraq, “We will win this conflict. We will win it easily.” Four years later, McCain said he knew all along that the war in Iraq war was “probably going to be long and hard and tough.”

McCain has repeatedly said it’s a dangerous mistake to tell the “enemy” when U.S. troops would be out of Iraq. In May, McCain announced that most American troops would be home from Iraq by 2013.

McCain was against expanding the GI Bill before he was for it.

  • imustprotest

I am not voting for Obama, get over it.

  • DeaninMI

I think somebody is getting a leeetle worried about the PUMAs. LOL.

  • Hank

Come on Katie, ask him a question that will start with uh duh ahh make him studder. Andrea Mitchell left the door open.

  • kellie

    Nice deflection!

  • wodiej

signed petition, thank you for posting…

  • Hank

Kellie no matter what wrong McCain does, My vote is with him.

  • judd

Obama should be arrested and locked up.

He has no right to speak in any way shape or form or make any promises on behalf of our country to any other country.
He has not been authorized in any state capacity to speak with foriegn leaders on behalf of our…..my country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHEN IS ANYBODY GOING TO GET THIS!!!@!!!

WHEN IS ANYONE GOING TO GET THIS!

    TAKE HIM DOWN NOW!

HE IS BLOWING OUR COUNTRY TO BITS AND THIS IS HIS MISSION!

  • ziggy

    Yeah, right.

    You’re gonna “protest vote” a guy into the White House who has publicly referred to the Jewish holiday of Purim as “their version of Halloween”;

    Who claimed it is “common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaida is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran” (Total bullsh-t, because Iran is Shiite, while al-Qaida is Sunni);

Who persists in confusing Shiites and Sunnis, given any opportunity; and

Who has frequently expressed his support for Czechoslovakia–a country that hasn’t existed since 1993. (Several times this year, in fact. Maybe John should visit Czechoslovakia sometime soon to convey our solidarity with them.)

Don’t correct him, however. If you get John upset he tends to go ballistic.

  • Disgusted

Nice deflection on your part too. All of these are linked into my comment. Where did I ask you a damn thing about McCain? I asked you WHERE IS OBAMA GONNA GET ALL THE MONEY TO MAKE GOOD ON ALL HIS PROMISES AND PAY DOWN THE DEBT ? I wont hold my breath for your answer.

  • ford

I agree , I think Moran got Obama all stutters and moist air, so get to it…I love the Obama pregnant pauses…you can see the computer start to fizzle.

Kellie I am sorry that Obama does not pay you more, you deserve a raise. The monstro tag of emails was alot of fun. You should consider running yourself next time, instead of helping a married man.

  • ziggy

Not to mention the fact that John apparently believes Iraq and Pakistan share a common border. (His geography lesson, provided during a “Good Morning America” interview earlier this month.)

I hope he doesn’t decide to launch an invasion, because we might wind up occupying Turkey by mistake.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

Turkey is aleady scewing up Northern Iraq.

  • Northwest rain

    Go away troll!

Idiot — probably a hairy guy from Gaza.

  • Katmoon

Just signed it, thanks for letting us know.

  • ziggy

Right. This was Barack Obama’s second visit to Iraq.

I believe McCain has made eight? (Someone else was driving, so he actually got there.) It’s OK for McCain, though. Probably because he goes right along with Bush policy?

You’d better watch those TAKE HIM DOWN comments, btw. There’s a thin line and you’re almost out of bounds.

  • kellie

BY RAISING TAXES, just like Hillary was going to do!

  • ziggy

Yeah, you’re right. The Kurds seldom get any respect from us, even though they’ve given us the least trouble of any Iraqi ethnic group.

  • Katmoon

Oops all out of troll food here, so many to feed and fussy eaters. I’ll be back need to pick up some

    Pie in the Sky

Grandiose Gatorade ( not the Green one)

Watermelon ( so they can call me a racist)

  • kellie

Of course you will because you’re a republican.

    Now let’s pretend you’re not a republican

Haha! Look at what you just wrote. Do you even realize how stupid it sounds?

  • Hank

I have never been a REPUBLICAN….I’m 100% behind Judd Obvomit should be arrested upon his arrival back to the U.S. Maybe, he will just go back to KENYA..

  • ziggy

If Hillary were the nominee, she would be running in the double digits ahead of Mc Cain.

Not necessarily. You forget how much the conservative right dislikes Hillary Clinton. They’re keeping mum on that at present, hoping to pull the anti-Obama democrats over to the McCain camp, but if you just think back a year or two you’ll remember their true feelings about her. A lot of republicans feel about Hillary as most here feel about Obama.

The Obama campaign is poised to take on McCain in 17 new battleground states that are traditionally republican. Would Hillary’s campaign have been in a position to do that?

  • kellie

What are we arresting him for again?

  • kellie

Senators can speak with foreign leaders you moron.
What do you think John McCain did when he was over there, get some sun? I hope not with the skin cancer history and all….

  • Disgusted

This is a nice little game. How much is he going to raise taxes? You know, to pay for all his promises AND pay down the debt? Here’s the thing Kellie, I have heard all this before from Obama. He is my state senator after all. To me this sounds like ” the tolls on the tollway are only there till we pay for the road” 15 years later the road must be paid for 100 times over. Still tolls though. Hmmm. I think it’s great that you come here toeing the party line. I used to do that too. Then I woke up. Maybe you should open your eyes and ears. Compare what you hear to what you see. It will set you free.

  • Boxer Mum 06

Play nice Kellie – no need to bring up the skin cancer.

What you are failing to understand is that unlike Obama, McCain has a record and is an open book.

We know what we are getting when we vote for McCain.

Do YOU know what you are getting when you vote for Obama?

  • Disgusted

Oh and for the record, I never said I was voting for McCain. I don’t think Obama is a flip-flopping liar. I KNOW he is. I have known it since the first day he darkened the doorstep of my home state.

  • kellie

How would you suggest we get out of the mess we are in? I have NO REASON not to believe that Obama has the best intentions for this country. Do I think he’ll do everything he says he’s going to..of course not.
But since you are voting for McCain please tell me what he’s going to do!
That is the purpose of this movement isn’t it? To get McCain elected? So tell me…what is he going to do? Why should I believe him since he is constantly changing his stance on EVERYTHING?
All any of you do is bash Obama and make ridiculous claims. So since you are so hell bent on getting McCain elected why don’t you ever talk about the great things he’s going to do for this country?

  • ginaswo still says no Uhhbama

oh shxt this sounds pretty anti israel right here:

that ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and achieving a just settlement to the Arab-Israeli conflict tops

they r calling it an OCCUPATION by Israel, this is just great, God Help Us

  • ginaswo still says no Uhhbama

yes AFTER Hill was out, didnt stop her from doing a truly horrendous job interviewing Hill when Hill was actively campaigning

buyers remorse from the press corps setting in…

  • ginaswo still says no Uhhbama

yes didnt she almost lose her spot a while ago, perhaps she is looking to break from the herd…as they resemble lemmings more and more each day..perhaps self preservation is kicking in, after all the press corp DOES have to LIVE here in America like the rest of us…

  • ginaswo still says no Uhhbama

    ohhhh good Freudian typo there

press corp.? corporation, ches of course

  • kellie

Yeah, actually I think I have a pretty good idea.
But you didn’t address the issue. Why are we having him arrested again? So because McCain’s record is an open book he can talk to world leaders but Obama can’t? Now that makes sense on what planet again?

  • kellie

Oh and yes I do know what I’m getting with McCain. I’ve been getting it for the last 8 years.

  • Disgusted

    Honestly,
I don’t want either. Is that ok with you? I think McCain is a liar. I know Obama is a liar. I don’t think McCain would be good for this country. I know Obama wont be good for this country. Obama is a career campaigner. Plain and simple. He talks about getting things done but he never gets around to doing them. Too much work I suppose. He has been in my state for 20 years and I swear, as god is my witness, the only time I hear about the man is when he is trying to reach some loftier goal. He has done absolutely nothing for the state of Illinois. Nada, Zilch, Zero. I can not vote for Obama. Sorry.

  • ginaswo still says no Uhhbama

    yes it is

    tag youre it kelli
    prove its not true now

we have posted his econom ic diaster of a plan several times over

go do some homework then come back and promote your candidates economic plan

focus on business taxes and FICA taxes, cap gains dividend taxation and then the various brackets

  • Disgusted

FTR, just so you don’t look foolish. The purpose of this movement is to make sure that Obama does not get elected. McCain is just the undeserving recipient of our desire. We are not PRO-McCain we are ANTI-Obama.

  • ginaswo still says no Uhhbama

Uhhbama plans to move our troops to Afhghanistahn, cant save money there

we are BORROWING to fund the two wars

    he will still be BORROWING

he refuses to CONSIDER PAYGO or balancing the budget for at least 4 years

he plans a private domestic security force as well funded as our military, higher deficit coming there!!

his advisers push a US military presence in a divided Jerusalem moving Israel out of ‘Palestinian lands’, King of Jordan sems happy about it as well
where will that money come from and how will Israel take it?

he wants to insure 43 million undocumented immigrants

he wants to expand faith based iitiatives and govt funding of those as well as his rollcall of other social programs, none of which will get us to universal healthcare

where are you getting a surplus there?

  • Hope Floats

Something tells me you shut kellie up for while. She’ll chime in with a couple of idiot Obama trolls on another thread, but you chased her off this one. Nice!

  • ginaswo still says no Uhhbama

    damn right we are Lou

    WooT!!!!!

  • Hope Floats

Changing the subject. Still no tax plan.

  • kellie

Why don’t you vote 3rd party then or write in someone who does deserve your vote?

  • Hope Floats

No, he’s not. McCain was skeptical, but he always opposed subsidies. He still does. He is also against stiff tariffs on Brazilian sugar cane ethanol imports, and he is more open-minded about the potential benefits of using ethanol in an alternative energy plan. He has not flip-flopped. That is what an actual nuanced position is.

  • Hope Floats

McCain took a page out of Obama’s book and skipped the vote. He sure never made a bunch of promises that he would vote against it.

  • kellie

I’m not asking you to vote for him.
I respect your feelings for Obama. I feel the exact same way about my former gov. Mitt Romney.
I think it takes a certain type of person to be a politician, and generally it’s not the type of person I would like to spend time with.
But, for me Obama is the lesser of two evils. So that’s why I’m voting for him.

I’m sure you will make me regret saying this, but it’s refreshing to have an argument on here without someone bring up fake birth certificates and whitey tapes

I’m sure you will make me regret saying this, but it’s refreshing to have an argument on here without someone bring up fake borth certificates and whitey tapes.

  • Hope Floats

Kellie, do you actually read this inanity before you cut and paste it?

McCain supported moving “toward normalization of relations” with Cuba. Now he believes the opposite.

Did you hear there’s a new leader in Cuba?

Have you heard about the geopolitical shift in Middle Eastern relations?

You don’t think imminent war with Iran has something to do with a different approach to Russia?

  • WildChild

You just brought up fake birth certificates and whitey tapes.

  • kellie

    Hillary supporter. Riiiight.

  • Hope Floats

Dumb dumb… McCain was the biggest critic of Rumsfeld. Democrats cheered when he made the push to replace him.

We would have won the war more easily, if McCain were the CIC instead of Bush. What did Obama say in 2004? “My strategy is the same as the President’s.” He was wrong!

In May, McCain announced that most American troops would be home from Iraq by 2013.

You forgot he flip flopped and said we’d be there for 100 years, too. Oh. Obama said we would be in Iraq till 2013, too. Doh!

McCain was against expanding the GI Bill before he was for it.

McCain has always supported Sen. Lindsay Graham’s GI bill which is better than Jim Webb’s, because it offers transferability and improves retention rates by 19%.

  • kellie

I was wondering when you were going to slither in! How are you? I hope your having a great day!

  • Disgusted

Many will do just that. I haven’t decided what I will do yet. It really doesn’t matter what I do. Obama will win Illinois handily. Most of the people on this site are not Republicans, we don’t want to vote for McCain. I know I don’t. A lot of people on here will vote for McCain however, whether it be to send a message to the DNC about the ROOLZ or just because they believe that strongly against Obama. After all a 3rd party or write in vote will have much less impact, than a vote for McCain. The bottom line is that NONE of us want Obama. That is why you don’t see much love for McCain. To us he is just the lesser of two bad choices. We don’t have anything good to say about McCain. We are, for whatever reason, pissed off democrats. I would have voted for any Dem. Just not Obama.

  • Hope Floats

Kellie the Kinko’s employee has nothing to talk about but fake BC’s and whitey tapes, because she’s got a weak grasp of issues. She’s a low info voter, armed with talking points and a lot of squishy feelings about change.

  • kellie

I got all of this information off of a Pro Hillary website. Hmmm makes you think doesn’t it?

  • Hope Floats

She can’t step to you on taxes, Gina. Second of her “deflections.”

  • WildChild

I was wondering when you were going to slither in!

LOL simply amazing. The second time you said it and then you did it.

  • WildChild

LOL what was it called, Huffy poo?

  • kellie

Right, I’ve been spending a lot of time talking about fake birth certificates and whitey tapes. You’re an idiot.
No actually i was tring to have a real discussion about the issues. It’s ok though, I forgive you. I know you have a hard time reading.

  • WildChild

Right, you were trying to have a real discussion about the issues, so you brought up fake birth certificates and whitey tapes. LMAO I totally understand.

  • Hope Floats

The surge unanimously worked. Everyone but Obama himself admits it. Time lines are still wrong. Every single person involved in decision-making says we are relying on improved conditions on the ground. There are definite benchmarks we are looking toward to gauge our progress. 1 out of 49 Republican Senators voted against the 2002 Iraq war resolution – which was not a declaration of war – and despite the reality we find ourselves in, McCain’s GOOD judgment has reduced the casualties and accounted for most of our successes.

  • Hope Floats

They haven’t spoken, you dumbass. That happens in November.

  • Jay

I just watched the interview after reading this hamfistedly clumsy post, and he-knocked-it-out-of-the-park! Thoughts? You smoldering piece of shit…lol

  • Hope Floats

At least he writes what’s on his mind instead of what’s on the latest memo from HQ. As Chateaubriand said, “Genius creates, and taste preserves. Taste is the good sense of genius; without taste, genius is only sublime folly.”

  • Hope Floats

When McCain speaks with our generals in the ME or foreign heads of state, he does not presume to speak on behalf of the CIC but instead within the constraints of his position as a ranking member on the Armed Services Committee, you silly twat.

  • Hope Floats

That’s because he took out loans to keep his campaign afloat while he was still pursuing his party’s nomination.

  • Hope Floats

Hillary ran as a centrist during the primaries instead of waiting to reverse her positions after they were over.

  • Hope Floats

You and millions of Americans especially when we look at the polls now. Kellie’s the one in for a rude awakening. It couldn’t have happened to a snider person.

  • Hope Floats

“their version of Halloween” … I prefer the John Carpenter classic, but I like The Wiz as well as The Wizard of Oz. I’m multi-culti like that.

  • Hope Floats

You should have seen Pelosi and Bush stick it to the Armenians. Talk about no respect!

  • Buzz Latte

    Kellie,

Your noobieness is really sweet but not very well studied or convincing.

While we’ve noticed a marked decrease in the intensity and, shall we say, offensive name-calling, we haven’t seen an increase in any real merit for Obama.

You have no power here and therefore are not convincing anyone to support Obama. Perhaps you need to go canvas in Ohio where Obama is sliding into a certain oblivion.

Meanwhile, we’ll all still cringe as Obama doesn’t answer Katie’s questions with any real merit or substance. Is there a trend in the Obama Camp?

    No real merit? No substance?

  • Hope Floats

Maybe if Obama had visited Afghanistan, he’d know they don’t speak Arabic there. And credit McCain for sticking up for what is now known as the Czech Republic and Slovakia. (MOAR Trivia… Horses question: What horse breed originated in (former) Czechoslavakia? Kladruber.) Obama can’t find Poland on a map.

  • Buzz Latte

Knocked what out of the park, more Obama bullshyt? He didn’t even show up for batting practice on that one.

It was NOT a credible interview and even Katie had to resort to a less complicated question to get a response out of him on the surge.

Obama is the biggest joke since Dukakis. No, he’s an even bigger joke.

In case you don’t believe it, just check out the latest numbers from Ohio. Portends of things to come.

    No Obama – ever!

  • Hope Floats

For the 5% of the time McCain disagrees with Bush, he is 100% more correct than Obama. And I would at this point take another four years of Bush over Obama. That’s why I voted against Kerry.

  • Buzz Latte

We still aren’t voting for Obama.

    PUMA

  • Nader Rox

Like me! At least I can sleep at night. See, I never wanted a faux progressive, I wanted a strong, smart centrist…

  • Mr.Murder

Aside from the theatrics of the Miami Vice car ride, (where Obama went without one of his 300 consultants, having seen the same recent INTEL briefings every other candidate and office holder has to this time for the final six months, and was suddenly free to confirm who knows what to a foreign leader), what is going on with the thread topic?

His taking that knowledge and claiming to have been the inspiration for what was probably already agreed is pretty brazen. Also it creates significant pressure on leaders seen with him, for Obama’s proclamations. You should always schedule appearances abroad with the host, they are more than an ornament for your photo op. The puppet leaders of Iraq and Afghanistan hold tenuous to the power cord of their countries. The wrong move and it is lights out.

The fact remains that Iraq’s surge “success” occurs from the spike of casualties that start with it, and the usual drawback of field action to help shape perception violence went down, when it’s more or less spiked opposite for brief times ahead of said benchmarks.

The so called surge success is actually a matter of ethnic cleansing being done to the extent that the Green Zone and Sadr city are effectively being cordoned into ethnic enclaves.

When the presence of forces is a welcome item, it is true that greater numbers of troops lead to less casualties as a whole. This reflects the role as peacekeepers and the stability they can provide for particular demands.

“…occuptation casualties were directly proportionate to the numbers of troops deployed;”
pp236, para.III, Ch XI, U.S.Peacekeeping in Bosnia, The Politics of Truth).

This of course would come with the understanding that the mission and its CiC want resolution and they enable transparency. Those assumptions are not evidenced by the Cheney Corporation’s brand of policy.

There is also the fact that larger figures at play are biding time with the hope of taking a bigger slice of influence at later times. This would include Sadr’s own times that he cooled off the action to an extent he could best determine political gain to the goal of assimilating the majority party’s hold.

That said, Sec.Gates and his Generals appear to have coordinated efforts to pair diplomatic advance with the accompanied forces. The deployment curve shifts in this new era, as Amb.Wilson noted from the record in Bosnia. The initial phase is big on military, lighter on civilian autonomy. Then, as violence subsides, the NGO and civic functions take control of items and allow the military to focus upon its core purposes, and the numbers will result in favor of improved casualty ratios.

Whether this is in per capita terms, which of course is obviously expected, or with actual raw numbers, could be a matter of debate. Most certainly it is a result of both in Wilson’s references. In Iraq it is mostly due the use of Mercs. In the case of the Bosnia/Kosovo conflicts it was so, but there were clearly defined parameters for the most part.

This case is one of assimilated groups being separated, and not having quite the distinct cultural, ethnic, and tribal differences in terms of appearance for the urban regions that would make this matter expedient. In fact, Saddam had as close to a plural society as one could claim within the Middle East. The country is having its very soul ripped from its being at this point. We were along for the ride…

  • NOBama in August

Kellie I am sorry that Obama does not pay you more

  • Chicago Joe

That’s a pretty lame talking point. What…the first string all overseas with no wifi?

  • Chicago Joe

Kellie, when you cut and paste, it is customary to show you are quoting. I just copied your words into Google and they pop up on a zillion web sites. COpying from Prof. Obama can get you kicked out of that nice school your parents are sending you to for plagiarism.

you need to understand and see that many democrats are voting for McCain….life long democrats who love our country. I am one of those at its been more than 35 years.

Obama is a danger to our country, to the constitution, and to our national security. He is a reckless egomaniac who thinks he knows everything.

when you call life long democrats republicans, you just show yourself as young, naive, uneducated, starry-eyed, ignorant, uncritical and just plain stupid. You think you can insult your way around, be a thug, and get people to vote for your fake plastic jesus.

so just get over it. many democrats don’t like obambi because he is a fake and unqualified.

you are in for a rude awakening.

  • Donna Brazile

    Kellie:

    Why all the hate?

Axelrod not paying you enough attention.

We’re about love and understanding here.

obama is such an ignorant prick. he never holds a hearing to find out about afghansistan, and heads over there only when he gets media coverage. Shit, and riding in a plane with a fake presidential seal? What an ass clown.

he can’t make promises, this is no more than a photo op, and no he doesn’t speak for america and hasn’t been authorized to.

a fake plane, a fake press corp which he bought to go with him, controlling demonstrations, questions, dress code–now that sounds like Bush to me.

Obama–the petty tyrant faker fairy tale liar masquerading as senator, with no core values. its all about him.

you are a fool, kellie. and laughable. no pity for your willful ignorance and stupidity.

This is why parents don’t let children choose Presidents.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

Speak for yourself. I think kellie should be dumped of in Pakistan where barky spent a summer as a college student. She can wave her passport around and tell everyone that she’s an American that can’t be treated that way.

  • Just A thought

Mr M. re your comment: “The country is having its very soul ripped from its being at this point. We were along for the ride…”

I disagree with “we were along for the ride”. Factually, we did the ripping. We destroyed a viable, functioning country under the pretext of saving it.

However, as Powell said, once we broke it, it is up to us to fix it. No easy task, yet the morally correct one.

As such, the surge is the closest we have come to bringing stability. How well it will continue remains to be seen. As of now, though the situation is tenuous, both civilian and military casualties are down and previously unstable regions like Kirkuk to the north, and Basra to the south are enjoying comparably stable day to day life.

Such could change tomorrow. However, what is being done is the best we can do for now. Those who say just leave, or leave in X number of months are delusional.

Logistics will dictate when we can leave, along with the question of “will we be allowed to leave”. Unless “we are allowed to leave”, we will see the bloodiest mess we have seen since the early stages.

Getting out is a hell of alot harder than getting in, and so far I have not seen one detail, or proposal, as to how we will accomplish such. Until I do see such from all, or any of, the “get-out drumbeaters”, I can only assume that they are blowing smoke, and engaging in irresponsible, wishful thinking.

Do you just have a big fucking mouth or are you willing to put up something of value as a wager. Like your citizenship.
