Are Democrats Finally Getting A Clue?

~ Bumped Up ~

Yes, and no. They realize they need to change how the primaries are conducted, yet don’t see any real problems with how the last one went. I have written about the rampant Caucus fraud ad nauseum, but apparently, the DNC missed it. Even though the Clinton Campaign told them about it. Oh, whatever – you can’t make the blind see, especially when they don’t want to see.

Of course, my favorite (cough, choke) representative, Jim Clyburn, who is MY representative (cough, choke), is the voice for this article, “Democrats Consider New Presidential Nominating Process.” Honestly, the whole thing would be laughable if it weren’t so delusional:

National Democrats are considering changing the presidential nominating process, by establishing a new primary calendar and deemphasizing the influence lawmakers and political insiders have on choosing the party nominee.

The battle for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination was marred by controversy as the Democratic National Committee argued with some state parties over when they could hold their primaries and caucuses and candidates were forced to take sides in this important internal party dispute.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-South Carolina, said that the 2008 nomination contest “yielded a great candidate,” but readily acknowledged the problems that arose.

“We need to improve a little bit in spite of the fact that we got a great candidate out of the process,” Clyburn said Saturday at a meeting of a DNC working group tasked with drafting a new plan. “It was not very comfortable at various points along the way.”

Oh, yes, Obama the unqualified was just the most outstanding candidate in the entire field, with all of his vast leadership experience. Yeah, right.

And that pesky little “controversy”? That’s more often referred to as CHEATING, and people getting pissed off about it. But don’t let me rain on the Democrats’ Delusion Train.

How many of us complained about the way in which the Primaries were conducted, particularly the caucuses, and how states were penalized? How convenient for them to consider changes now that the damage has been done:

Democrats see an opening to change the system now, because this is “a rare cycle of no apparent Democratic presidential nomination challenge” in 2012 as President Obama is expected to seek a second term, according to the “Draft Report of the Democratic Change Commission,” discussed at the meeting.

Commission members, who range from lawmakers and grassroots activists to President Obama’s campaign manager, are charged with putting forth recommendations to help expand the Democratic base and increase more ethnic and regional diversity in choosing the party’s presidential nominee in 2016 and beyond, assuming Obama seeks a second term.

A commission suggestion would be to allow the first four states that held nominating contests in the January 2008 maintain their early, privileged calendar positions. But these states – Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina – would be directed to delay holding their caucuses and primaries before February 1. All other states would be forbidden from holding their nominating contests until at least the first Tuesday in March.

Another recommendation in the report suggested grouping states by “region or sub-region.”

“This would not be a mandatory obligation upon the state parties,” the commission stated. “The commission recommends that these clusters be staggered throughout the window to allow for a deliberative process that benefits all voters and caucus-goers through the country.”

States parties that abided by the DNC’s calendar would be rewarded by getting special perks at the national nominating convention.

“Special Perks”? Oh, wowie zowie – like their own Rainbow Pony?

Here is where it gets good:

The commission also discussed how to reduce the influence of unpledged delegates – lawmakers and party insiders also know as superdelegates – who played a big role in the 2008 nomination contest.

“Unpledged delegates constituted 19% of the total convention and the presidential candidates were compelled to spend a substantial amount of candidate time and other resources to seek the support of these automatic delegates,” the commission stated. “We learned that in a closely contested presidential race, the nomination could be decided by this category of delegates.”

No formal solution dealing with superdelegates was arrived at Saturday and the commission will draft a plan to reduce their numbers in the coming weeks.

“The DNC must address the perception that there are too many unpledged delegates and those delegates could potentially overturn the will of the people, as determined by the state contests,” the commission stated.

COULD potentially overturn the will of the people“? How about it DID overturn the will of the people! Between the Superdelegates and the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee, which decided not to follow its rules and by-laws, it most definitely DID overturn the will of the people. The PEOPLE picked Hillary Rodham Clinton. The DNC and its minions made damn sure of that (make sure you read the Comments at the end of the article – other people get the influence the caucses and ACORN played). What a crock. See why I said these people are delusional?

Finally:

The commission is expected to vote on its final recommendations before December 18. The recommendations will then be sent to the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee for further debate and discussion.

Mark Brewer, chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party, said he had no problem with reducing the number of superdelegates as long as state party chairs and vice chairs maintained their status and party leaders continued to play a role at the conventions.

But Brewer took exception to the idea of allowing four states to be granted a special exemption to hold their primaries before other states.

“From the perspective of Michigan and other states, it is unfair that any state have a permanent place at the top of the process,” said Brewer, who attended the meeting but is not a commission member. “It is unfair to give any states or state a monopoly.”

The Republican National Committee is also looking at how its party chooses its presidential nominee, and the DNC expressed interest Saturday in working with its political rival on a nomination calendar.

As a resident of SC, you may recall we were allowed to get away with having our primary TOO early, with absolutely no penalties whatsoever, because they knew the state would go to Obama. Especially since they, including Jim Clyburn, were working HARD on painting the Clintons – both of them – as racists.

Pathetic. Truly pathetic. These people will simply refuse to admit there was ever any wrong-doing whatsoever by Obama’s minions with caucuses or the DNC in stealing the nomination from Hillary Clinton, thus from US.

Personally, I don’t support liars, cheaters, and thieves. I guess I can add “Delusional” to the beginning of that list, too. Problems in how candidates are chosen cannot truly be addressed until past wrongdoings are acknowledged and rectified. The DNC seems far, far away from ever being able to do that.

And this is exactly why, after being a lifelong Democrat, my response to them is to fuck off. Changes now aren’t going to make up for the machinations of this past campaign season, and the arrogant, petty, neophyte with whom they stuck us. When they admit they should have a do-over, perhaps I won’t be so harsh on them. I’m not holding my breath for that ever happening, thus the sentiment is justified.

Bottom line, too little, too late, and with no remorse on the part of those who manipulated the outcome. In other words, no, the DNC hasn’t gotten enough of a clue. Will they ever?

  • Patrick Henry

No.. They are Addicted to Cicle Jerks..

    Another FINE Piece Amy..F.O. Indeed..

  • lahana

Not that it has a chance of happening, but if I were to be revising the rules, I would get rid of the caucuses and make them all primaries, and make sure that all districts had an odd number of delegates which would magnify the winner. As opposed to the current even number delegate districts which allow a candidate that lost by 10 or so points to get the same number of delegates.

  • NYSmike

The creeps will never admit the past errors because that would burst the bubble that The One ran the smartest bestest ever campaign. It would tarnish their selection and they can’t step on
O-bow-ma’s toe less they want Meeechelle to come after them!

  • Tricia

Excellent Amy. Living through all of that, watching it unfold, made me ashamed to be a Democrat.

  • DS

Hmm… addressing ethnic and regional diversity, but nothing about gender? Same old DNC…

…charged with putting forth recommendations to help expand the Democratic base and increase more ethnic and regional diversity in choosing the party’s presidential nominee in 2016 and beyond,…

  • JMM

Thanks for this post Amy. I hadn’t heard the Dems were thinking of changing their process. I think they should all be primaries, no caucuses and there should be ONE national primary day. That way there would be no supression of the vote by spinmeisters saying one candidate ‘can’t possibly win now, they can’t get the number of delegates, blah, blah, blah.’

  • Peggy Sue

The Dems must be sweating in their booties with this early declaration that “they’ll be better next time out.”

Too late. They’ll never get my one-party loyalty back. What they did wasn’t “uncomfortable” and I don’t give a damn about state “perks.”

What they did in 2008 is act like a bunch of foul-mouthed thugs. No excuses. No forgiveness either.

But it’s nice to see them squirm.

    Good article, Amy!

  • http://! stodgie

it won’t be better next time because they have lost the heart and soul of the average american for whom they have shown nothing but distain. too late dims way too late.

  • Anon

I don’t believe they got that good of a candidate either.

  • beachnan

I wish I knew the number of Democrats, who no longer consider themselves Democrats, as of May 31, 2008. I remembered calling the DNC numerous times to complain about the process-the rampant violations by Obama and the caucuses, and the debacle concerning Florida and Michigan. There came a time when I realized that there no longer was a Democratic Party, but an Obamacratic Party. He and his minions had completely taken over. I am still registered Dem, but I consider myself Independent. It’s more fun this way. This way, they waste their time and money sending me mailers that I return to them empty and with postage due. Lastly, what is this crap about expanding with more regional and ethnic diversity. What happened to the ideal-one person/one vote?

  • FranSC

This 37-member commission is not about to end caucuses since that is precisely how B0 got the nomination. One of the major arms of the 0bama campaign, MoveOn.org, fraudulently ran up the delegate count in traditionally *republican* states knowing that the other dem candidates had never spent their primary funds competing in those states and would not in 2008.

In addition, the DNC sent Donna Brazile to states to convince them to have caucuses instead of the primaries they were scheduled to have. That in itself should have been a red flag to state leaders.

So, why would they end this dispicable practice when they still have 2012 to go?

  • Obama: Dubya 2 Electric Boogaloo

IMO, I think the more Obama tanks in the polls and with the rank amateur performance as President thus far, will make the rabble question how he beat Hillary in the first place. So when it’s exposed that Obamafraud happened during the 2008 primaries they can point to this CYA moment.

  • FLDemFem

Don’t forget that Donna Brazile also conspired to give districts with a heavy AA population got more delegates per capita than other districts. That means that the AA votes counted MORE than the ones cast by people not living in heavily AA district. That is so un-Constitutional that I can’t even fathom how they thought it was acceptable in an American election. Someone should make sure that Donna Brazile never gets near another election, except as a voter, in her lifetime. She is a cheat, and she and her cohorts cheated me out of the full value of my vote.

  • Diana L. C.

It might also begin to open the doors, so to speak, to shed some light on their complicity in the froud.

  • Diana L. C.

    OOP! fraud, not froud.

  • FranSC

Peggy Sue, I don’t think they are squirming at all. They have no reason to squirm other than to keep in place the fundamentals of the caucus/voter/fundraising fraud that nominated and elected the neophyte we now have.

I googled a majority of the 37-member commission, and they are ALL hard-core 0bama supporters that have no complaints about how this illegitimate POTUS got to the WH.

It was the Hillary supporters (not the corrupt other side) who were disenfranchised, locking them out of the caucuses or telling them in TX, “If you voted in the primary, you don’t need to vote in the caucus” when they needed to vote in both. Worse yet were the bused in caucus goers who were not from the county or the state.
Then in every caucus state they made sure the numbers were manipulated so 0bama would win by 12-17 points even when he lost the primary in the same state! Many of these states where Hillary won the primary, 0bama would “win” the caucuses in the same state and end up with more delegates than Hillary – aka, TX.
The fact that SC Rep James Clyburn who should be in jail for treason, is the Chairman of these hand-picked 0bama die-hards and the vice-chair is Clair McCaskill the continuous drum beater for 0bama, and who has confided it was her *daughter*, her child, who brought 0bama’s *greatness* to her attention.

Other members include David Plouffe, his so-called campaign manager (who by no means managed that multi-faceted campaign). He was simply the front man. Many of them are members of “Organizing for America”, 0bama’s 2012 campaign people. All of them gave big bucks to that corrupt campaign and have quite an investment in 0′s election and re-election.

There is *one* member that was a Hillary primary supporter, Randi Weingarten, President of the powerful AFT Teachers Union and lesbian activist who wasted no time jumping on the 0bama bandwagon after June 7, 2008.

The only reason this commission exists is the Hillary delegates insisted on having a “change commission” appointed to come up with reforms for the very corrupt practices that went on in 2008. A lot of good it will do to have members of the offending camp to “reform” this process. This is a mockery of “reform”.

  • wanderer

There are also a lot of Republicans–both conservatives and moderates–who no longer consider themselves party members, even if they’ve held on to the basic conservative/Republican fiscal and social values. The Tea Party phenomenon, despite attempts by the MSM and the modern Left to depict it as an uprising of old, white, right-wing racists, is made up of about equal numbers of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents who have found common ground in basic fiscal conservatism, an aversion to “big government” meddling in their private and business lives, and just plain disgust for the elitist arrogance of both major parties.

  • wanderer

And while a lot of Democrats are getting a clue, that doesn’t mean that the leadership/political elite of what presently calls itself “The Democratic Party” has gotten it, any more than most of the political elite of the Republican Party has gotten it.

We live in interesting times. The Chinese phrase “Ch’i ‘hu nan hsia pei” means that “He who rides a tiger is afraid to dismount,” but it seems to me that neither party is willing to admit that the populist tiger is loose. Some Republicans who have tried to put a saddle on it have found out that it’s not going to allow itself to be saddled. The “Democrats” won’t, for the most part, even admit that it’s a tiger.

It is, and this is the best explanation of it’s philosophy I’ve seen:

I AM THE PEOPLE, THE MOB
    By Carl Sandburg

    I AM the people—the mob—the crowd—the mass.

Do you know that all the great work of the world is
    done through me?

I am the workingman, the inventor, the maker of the
    world’s food and clothes.

I am the audience that witnesses history. The Napoleons
come from me and the Lincolns. They die. And
then I send forth more Napoleons and Lincolns.

I am the seed ground. I am a prairie that will stand
for much plowing. Terrible storms pass over me.
I forget. The best of me is sucked out and wasted.
I forget. Everything but Death comes to me and
makes me work and give up what I have. And I
    forget.

Sometimes I growl, shake myself and spatter a few red
drops for history to remember. Then—I forget.

When I, the People, learn to remember, when I, the
People, use the lessons of yesterday and no longer
forget who robbed me last year, who played me for
a fool—then there will be no speaker in all the world
say the name: “The People,” with any fleck of a
sneer in his voice or any far-off smile of derision.

    The mob—the crowd—the mass—will arrive then.

Good question, FranSC – though it has been some time since a candidate usurped a sitting prez in the nominating process, though still – I know they will do nothing to stand in the way of Obama.

    And good point abt MoveOn.org…

  • jbjd

Ignore this obfuscation by the DNC Services Corporation. The states decide, state by state, whether they want a primary or caucus. Everything coming out of the National is smoke and mirrors. Why on earth would anyone credit the word or good intentions of the same people who perpetrated election fraud to get the name of BO on state ballots, the prerequisite to getting D Electors to elect the man POTUS notwithstanding the Corporation refuses to respond to requests to disclose on what documentary evidence they based their Certification, he is Constitutionally qualified for the job.

    Excellent observation, DS!

The democrats are getting the clue that they have revitalized the Republican Party!
The will of the people? What part did that play in 2008?
I know that Hillary over-whelmingly carried my state, and yet we were thrown out like yesterday’s garbage!
Hey democrats, “clue” this…I won’t be back!

can forget about expanding the part of their base into the house and yard in which I reside. Besides, as someone pointed out above, I’m probably just a “typical white woman.” They are not interested in me anyway now that they have me back in the tub where I belong (at least according to them).

How infuriating. I don’t give a damn if they stand on their heads and choose straws for the rest of infinity! This propaganda and spin to improve their destroyed image in the minds of voters because there is, ahh, a little ELECTION coming up next year and they’re running scared because of their, ahh, “FALSE PROPHET” Obama…..

It’s a big fat stinkin’ WASTE OF TIME, Clyburn. We won’t drink your kool-aid next time either. You people make us sick. Get my my GAG bag. I think I’m going to puke, just seeing his name.

They gave 55 delegates to a candidate who wasn’t even on the ballot in Michigan!

Let me repeat that: THEY GAVE 55 DELEGATES to A CANDIDATE WHO WASN’T EVEN ON THE BALLOT IN MICHIGAN.

It was brazen election fraud. They should all be arrested.

Don’t even try to peddle that HORSESHIT Clyburn. You and your party stink up the place.

NO.. in my book Coward Dean and Nancy Scary face… have special place in HELL for what they did in the primary.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Thanks, RRRA, great post. I couldn’t agree more. Although I removed myself from most of the campaign websites (Move On, and all the criminal Dims)one or two sometimes arrive through snail mail. It gave me great pleasure yesterday to respond to Barbara Boxer’s plea for money. On the back of her diatribe against Carly Fiorina (always send back in their paid envelope), a note telling her just what I thought of her, the DNC and 5/31/08. Ended my rant with “As a former life-long Democrat, I look forward to voting for Ms. Fiorina and sending you back to Marin County for good.” Her letter was pretty desperaate sounding. Fiorina has apparently been raising lots of $$. Fingers crossed. I’d love to see Boxer retired…make that Senator Boxer. What a biache.

Each time I see Clyburn standing in back of Pukelosi, when she appears to make her pronouncements, I feel sick to my stomach. Racist SOB.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

The one person/one vote wouldn’t allow all the dirty dealing and manipulation of the process. I’ve been very involved in every election, studying the candidates, considering myself pretty knowledgeable. Along with most of you, I watched the R&B committee meeting with tears streaming down my face. When their one hour lunch went on for 2 (2 1/2?) hours, I knew the fix was in.

To think that these 60′s throw backs were actually able to take over was shocking…and I was one who was infuriated by the 1968 convention when they did it the other way. I never thought they’d so it again. Too bad they couldn’t conjure up Rubin and Hoffman in suits…wait…they have the ghoulish Rahm. No need. They’ve lost me for life although I may, from time to time, re-register as Dim for primaries. Anytime the Republicans have a strong candidate, I’ll vote for the weaker Dim state or national candidate. This time though, I’ll vote straight Republican no matter who is running. Guessing in CA it’ll be Carly against former (and running again) Governor Moonbeam.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Even with Cutie Pie Edwards siphoning off votes from Hillary in CA, she still won. Even with Pukelosi and Biache Boxer in CA, she still won. As I recall, Feinstein was the only one who initially stuck by Hillary…but not in the long run. Even so, what do you hear from Feinstein now? Has she been marginalized?

Excellent point, DS (and I tried to respond to you before – my computer is having some technical issues).

Thanks, JMM. You and Peggy Sue make some great points, as does Diana L.C. above. Unless and until the DNC is willing to deal with issues of gender and their own misogyny, as well as the rampant caucus fraud we saw this past election, they can forget abt my vote.

Frankly, I don’t see that happening real soon…

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Well said, Sassy. I could not get over the senators and SuperD’s from Massachusetts and West Virginia glaringly going over to Obama even though the people spoke LOUD and CLEAR for Hillary.

The DNC could care LESS abt the voice of the people, and they sure as HELL don’t care abt one person/one vote. They have made that abundantly clear.

Good point, jbjd. I do wish we could do away with these caucuses, unless there are going to be nonpartisan overseers to ensure they are ACCURATE, unlike the last election. The fraud perpetrated was rampant, yet the DNC turned a blind eye and deaf ear.

I cannot believe this is the party to which I have belonged all these years. So much for being the party of the people, eh?

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Exactly, Mountainaires. How in the WORLD they could justify giving delegates to someone who took themselves off the ballot THEMSELVES is beyond me, hence why I ceased being a Democrat. That was such blatant fraud – such blatant disregard for the will of the people….

And Annie, excellent point. I have tried – in vain – to get myself off of the DNC mailing lists, too (and I LOVE the “Organizing for America” crap that comes with a DNC return address), and often send them back.

Carly Fiorina would be a tremendous boost over Boxer, someone whom I USED to support. Not any more, that’s for sure.

Along the same lines, jbjd, it is my never-ending hope that those local caucuses, state and district conventions across the country that were so egregiously manipulated for the purposes of out-of-county and state perpetrators that those local people will not forget and are at this moment planning their strategy to take back their votes.

Regardless of which side you were on in 2008, that kind of obvious corruption of the process would be an unpardonable breech of democracy that could not stand.

  • FranSC

Yes, I do, Diana L.C. Howard Dean more than anyone was responsible for *masterminding* what would become B0′s strategy. It was one of the 3 Dean Geeks who discovered the loophole in the law that became the caucus fraud that was part of Dean’s 50-state strategy. This was the strategy that Dean would have used had he gotten off first base in 2004. If it couldn’t be his strategy, then as Chairman of the DNC, Dean was willing to hand it over to the hand-picked candidate of the DNC and Dem leadership.

In addition, MoveOn.org was happy to move from working to get Dean nominated to getting B0 nominated due to their visceral hatred of GWB. Remember the huge crowds Dean had in 2004 – MoveOn.org was lining them up online. Since they knew from 2004 they would need more to insure victory, they then included organizing the caucus fraud online with the help of Jessie Jackson Jr.’s “Race Team” at least in Iowa and Nebraska.

But the interesting thing about Dean is 0 told
Dean on the Greek Column night that he could not have done it without him. Dean was quickly thrown under the bus because of the bad blood between him and Rahm – and you know, Rahm and Pelosi tell 0 everything to do since they are primarily responsible for his selection. Dean, a medical doctor and deeply interested in the job of Secretary of Health and Human Services. He had even told B0 of his interest. Dean got passed over twice.

The reason I’m interested in Dean? I’m hoping he’s writing the tell-all book from an insider’s point of view. If anybody knows, it’s Dean.

  • FranSC

They gave 55 delegates to the candidate who wasn’t even on the ballot in Michigan!

Yes, they gave 55 delegates to that candidate, but worse than that, they took them away from the candidate whose name *was* on the ballot in Michigan!!

  • FranSC

RRRAmy, is it possible to mail each of the 37 members of this so-called “Change Commission” a copy of your post, the comments, plus the exhaustive analysis of the caucus fraud by Peniel Cronin that references Dr. Lynette Long’s work? I think it would give them ‘pause’ that this many people know about what really happened. Surely there is someone you know that would gladly donate their time and cost to this important cause.

I think the “Change Commission” would worry being associated with this “fix” commission might come back to haunt them if they did not make some efforts toward constructive change. If one person wrote this, it would be quickly dismissed. But, with all the names, references, and groups mentioned here, it might help.

The post written recently about Sean Hannity’s HRC comments, etc., was sent so many times to Hannity that I got the error message his box was full. But in this case, it needs to be snail mailed individually. Clyburn would burn them if sent to him for the others.

Thank you, Diana, Scout, and Portia. I’m certain that others have thought of it, too, because I’ve seen it being used by a good many other Tea Party organizations, but back when our local Tea Party first organized, I pulled my collection of CS down from the shelf and sent it to the committee. She said it was a perfect comeback to those who dismissed Tea Partiers as “the mob.”

Interesting thing about the poem–some have dismissed it as being a representation of leftist or socialist sentiments, especially back in the day when it was first published. I’ve never seen it that way. Of course, it’s a standard practice of the two sides of the statist coin–fascism and socialism–to cynically co-opt, or attempt to co-opt, the kind of populist sentiment it reflects. History demonstrates how such regimes claim to commit their crimes in the name of “the People.”
