Bronwyn thanks for a great post. You’ve hit it on the Medicare mess proposed by Reid and the absurdity of adding to Medicare while cutting benefits, and all the other dangerous inconsistencies you point out.

This must be Reid’s swansong. He simply has to go and should be roundly defeated. His cancer language had to be removed by way of intervention from the American Cancer Society, as it was deceptive and prohibitive to cancer patients.

What other goodies lurk in his garbage laden bill that we’re unaware of?

This bill must be opposed. Harry must go.
All of this is the result of no leadership from the White House, and a two-faced position from Obama.

Each republican amendment is pre-empted by a vote on a watered-down version by the democrats.
The democrats all vote yea, and cover their trail(and tail).
Reid is counting on Vegas odds that many seniors will be dead by the time actual benefits are paid out in 2014!

Yeah LOL LOL LOL HA HA hee hee tee heeee, who in the hell was talking about 1993? Not me. I was referencing Bill Clinton’s RECENT advice to his fellow Dems this fall, 2009, & as for my comment about Hillary lobbying for mandatory participation, well hopefully you can recall all the way back to 2008. See this is so typical…selective memory? Hypocrisy? Denial? Bad policy is bad policy no matter who brings it forward & raggin’ on me won’t change that. But if you’d like some criticism from the oldies but goodies “dial-up” era, try the CRA & it’s quid pro quo, the repeal of Glass-Steagall, or do some of you now think giving mortgages to the uncredit worthy & turning the commercial banks into casinos was good policy?

And thank you, beachnan. The problems with the current system aren’t addressed in any way, form, or fashion by any of these bills. Moreover, only those willing to suspend disbelief or are terminally gullible believe these cornucopias of manure will do anything at all to mitigate the numerous problems inherent in our current system, which has been cobbled together over the years through the VERY SAME process that has given us these NEW bills.

Yeah, that’s what I want–another POS system to replace the POS system that they built in the first place.

Thank you Ferd. Why can’t they start with the current system, and make effective changes? I don’t have health insurance. I am now 55 and worried that something catastrophic could wipe me out. I have been checking out many of the plans out there and they offer so little for $$$$$. The system needs to be changed, but not with the current monster they are creating. My Brother recently was getting chemo, and had a reaction. They called the paramedics to take him to a hospital approximately 3 miles away. The bill was over $3,000. Every chemo treatment is $10,000. My Mother, who is also getting chemo, wasn’t feeling well and instead of calling her children, she called 911. That trip to the hospital, approximately 2 miles away, was over $1,000. I recently had to go to a Doc in the Box. I hadn’t been to one in about 5 years, so I was shocked when the clerk said the bill is $180. I thought that included a lab test, but I later got a bill for an additional $60. Fix the current screwed up system, and drop this dud of a bill.

This “Healthcare” bill is wrong on so many levels but the worst part is that it will increase administrative costs on the regulator and regulated sides of the equation, which is one of the real problems with the current system. You don’t repair a broken system by adding more cogs to the part that caused it to break in the first place. Has ANYONE actually performed a process-flow diagram on the mess that is our healthcare system? Do the boneheads that put together this fustercluck have any concept of inputs and outputs to a system? Was there even an attempt made at requirements management? Do these m o r o n s think in anything other than soundbites? I tried parsing the stupid bill into one of my databases and came up with a number of requirements on both sides that are more numerous than those necessary to design, build, and operate a nuclear powerplant for 30 years. It is staggering–we’re speaking in terms of decades of thousands on an atomized level.

But the Obamabots won’t discuss this one.
