Palin Goes Star Trek

This is ultimate cool. Conan OBrien has been sucking ass up to this point. Tonight (last night?) he jumped the shark and did something brilliant.

Check it out:

Sarah and Shattner are class.

This exchange is great on so many levels. Well done Conan. Who ever suggested this bit needs a raise.

  • Lonni

This was great! Who says right-wingers can’t be funny! LOL Neat!

  • Peggy Sue

I caught the Conan “Master Thesbian” reading. Palin did a really good job. And Shatner? He can ham it up with the best.

    Funny skit!

  • Steve Judd

What I find so interesting about this clip (and thanks for this, Larry) is that Conan’s audience went totally nuts when Gov. Palin took the stage. Think about that a second…Conan O’Brien’s audience went totally nuts when Sarah Palin took the stage, literally stopping the show.

And I think she’s working on her voice control a lot…not nearly so nasal and high plains twangy as it commonly is. And she locked in to the teleprmpter effortlessly and naturally.

I’m not saying I agree with all her positions or am converted to her brand of right-wing Republicanism. And I certainly know all my liberal friends are drooling at the thought of her running in ’12 or even ’16, but I am here to tell you as a long time observer of the political circus, this woman is a force to be reckoned with and will only grow as such. Her opponents underestimate her at their.

Damn, this is going to be so much fun to watch.

    • Steve Judd

…underestimate her at their peril”. (obviously) Sorry about that.

    • carlaforhillary

What you said! People are programmed to laugh at Palin, but it looks like she got the last laugh.

    • I’m a Linda too

      lol right.

The only liberal friends drooling at the thought of her running in 2012, are the ones who suppport her and can’t wait to see her in the WH.

The rest, even though I’m sure not your friends, look at her as the Democratic Parties enemy and are pretty sure Obama will lose if she runs. The media and Obama himself made that clear.

  • SoCalDem

Sarah is a force for sure. Her poll numbers are picking up the more people see and hear her speak. She doesn’t speak Washingtonian, we the people can hear her and comprehend. Which is more than I can say for any of those now seated in Congress or the Senate.

    Country before Party Always!!

  • helenk

Sarah Palin in time will be a well respected force to be watched.
At the rate of the current government it will be sooner rather than later.
    think about it.

excutive branch = an inexperienced, anti-american president

legislative branch = half a dollar hookers have more integrity.

judical branch = made a decision that congress can not stop funding acorn. that means that voter fraud, advising tax fraud, using children for prostitution is alright and our money should continue to pay for it.

Just how long before people decide all of Washington has to go and new people brought in to replace them.
Sarah Palin will be on the top of the list of replacements.

WOMEN WITH INTELLIGENCE AND EXPERIENCE,MEN WHO SUPPORT THEM AND COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMAS,BUBBAS,EQUALISTS AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE

  • socalannie

Larry, this was way cool & thanks for putting it up so quickly. But isn’t “jumping the shark” something bad for a tv show to do? I believe its when a show’s best days are over & then it does something ridiculous which sort of heralds the shows decline. The phrase comes from when Fonzie (Happy Days) jumped a shark on waterskis near the end of that show’s run.

This was a very clever idea–Sarah was great.

  • Jackarooty

Great skit! I don’t think Sarah is quite ready for prime time (POTUS) but she’s a strong force to be reckoned with and fearless! You go girl! Enjoy the ride.

Did you see how how Shatner’s eyes were “checking her out” with great approval? She’s a beautiful woman.

I wonder if she’ll make an appearance on SNL this season. Alec Baldwin is due for his annual hosting gig and he has a new movie (with Meryl Streep and Steve Martin) to plug.

    • trixta

As you suggest, Jackarooty, we at NQ can appreciate Sarah in all her glory as a great American, savvy politician, and attractive woman. But
checking her out with lustful eyes– especially as some do on the Left — is a way to put her in her place as a “beautiful woman.” They would love to reduce her to just her looks and gender. (I didn’t take your comments, Jackarooty, as such.)

As a great fan of Sarah I can say that although she is pretty, she’s no raving beauty — nor does she even want to be seen as a such! She presents herself in a professional way, and yet the Left treats her as if she were just a pretty face or some kind of a sex kitten. This is not meant as a compliment. It’s a sexist tactic. Unfortunately, it looks like Shatner was playing up that angle.

We NQers appreciate that Sarah is so much more than her looks. This is really what frightens the Left — that Sarah is the full package.

      • Jackarooty

I don’t even think it had anything to with left/right. I’ve watched men look at other women and it was obvious that Shatner was “enjoying” her! It also occurred to me that he might have been angling to get her on his Raw Nerve show for an interview. He does some good work on his show. That would be fun to watch…Sarah and Bill!

  • http://sarainitalyblog.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

    LOL! that was great!

  • http://www.syd4.blogspot.com SYD

Sarah is as ready for prime time as was Obama at this point four years ago. Hell, she is MORE ready for prime time than he was… uh, er is… today.

Good on Conan. And on Conan’s audience being full of more than a bunch of hateful Obots.

    Thanks for the link!

  • getfitnow

Her confidence level was astounding- what an amazing performance she gave considering the beating the “elites” (RINO’s included) have tried to lay on her.

    BTW–her book is still #1 @ Amazon.

    Go Cuda!

  • Kristen-in-ohio

The more I see of Sarah the more I love her! This was great! The applause for her was fabulous. What a strong and funny woman!

  • Khan Krum

    Bravo B.R.A.V.O.!!!

  • Texas Playwright

Well done, Sarah! Conan, good for you, too.

Sarah is real. bho the fraud is fake. Americans are seeing the difference more and more.

  • I’m a Linda too

Didn’t she rock?!? Great job Sarah.

  • tango

I loved it! I really appreciate the Conan show for thinking of this idea and running with it!

  • Smart-Jazz-Just Me

    Scary…

  • yttik

It was funny, I put Conan on to help me fall asleep because that’s really what his show is best for, and Palin came on stage and woke me right up.

That pretty much sums up how I feel about politics, wake me up when they’re done screwing us over…oh wait, is that Sarah Palin? I’m awake, I’m awake!

She brings energy to the whole process and dare I say it….hope!

  • Craig Della Penna

I hadn’t heard about this, thanks for putting it up. Very funny bits by all parties.

What’s especially interesting is that Conan O’Brien – a pretty left wing guy – thought it would be a good idea to treat Sarah Palin with respect: tweak her, sure, but give her a chance to tweak back. Smells like a change in wind direction…

  • barry bums a ciggie

This skit was very funny. Letterman should take a clue from this skit and write something funny that doesn’t involve a teenager getting knocked up.

  • ladydawnelle

Larry, everything Sarah does turns to GOLD!

She’s the real deal. The more people read up on her the more they like her. Those that won’t give her the slightest chance or are soooooo far out there in the looneysphere wouldn’t understand. Lemmings don’t cha know – all wear blinders! One size fits ALL (lemmings)

so far, I can’t think of one good reason NOT to like this lady! Whether she runs or not! I personally hope she does! And although I am Pro-choice (up to 4 months) I still like her. Maybe because I am also pro-GUN and pro-MEAT!

Thanks for noticing Sarah and posting the truth! ;-)

  • Sassy

Sarah is a natural! I like her more each time I see her!
She has plenty of time to introduce herself to the country through this type of venue.
Then, hit the nitty-gritty on policy!
    Go Sarah!

    • getfitnow

AUTHENTIC!! This woman is sooooo comfortable in her own skin.

  • trixta

As Geraldine Ferraro said after reading Paline’s book, her positions on some issues won’t sit well with the far Right. This is heartening. As Gov of Alaska, Palin put her personal views aside to work in a practical manner with both Dems and Repubs. After all, didn’t she go after the corrupt Republican establishment in her state? Didn’t she appoint a pro-choice woman judge over an anti-abortion woman judge? Doesn’t she see herself as a feminist? So far, in my view, she has not shown herself to be a demagogue.

  • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

Sarah hit it out of the park. The play off of Shatner was brilliant. Her outfit even looked star-trekish. The jazz riffs in the background were a stroke of genius.

Letterman is a bitter old man who has become repetitive, negative, and unfunny.

  • Khan Krum
  • Mandelay

She used to be a diamond in the rough … but boy oh boy is she sparkling lately! Thanks Larry — so much fun and so classy!

thank you Larry this just made my day

William Shatner 2012!! I love the guy, lol.

Palin was polished, confident and funny. Well, good for her, but as far as I know she is still a bailout apologista, is gung-ho for the war, and has never spoken in depth about the economy (the #1 issue, imo, so I cannot judge her understanding of it). All still deal breakers for me.

OBAMA NOW PLEADING FOR MONEY TO FIGHT SARAH PALIN

    LATimes
    November 20, 2009

Never shy about $eeking money, Democratic President Obama’s Organizing for America is now using the threat of Republican Sarah Palin as an opportunity to acquire more.

It has just sent an e-mail out to its millions of supporters today pleading for urgent donations to fight the mother of five, now on her heavily-publicized, cross-country book promotion bus tour. She holds no political office currently; in fact, she’s among America’s unemployed, though doing quite well financially.

Perhaps you’ve heard a little something about Palin in recent days.

The former governor of Alaska has written a book called “Going Rogue” that details her experiences in last year’s presidential campaign, her values and thoughts on various issues.

William Shatner 2012!! I love the guy, lol.

I love him too, SNK –
    but Bill Shatner is Canadian!

      Oh, Breeze, I’m crushed! :(

But then again, who needs to follow the Constitution?

  • http://N/A breeze

    Larry,
This is one of the comments.
    Can you answer her?

She is a private citizen. Isn’t it illegal for the President to single out a private citizen for attack using the power of his office (and possibly the Federal Government)?? We do NOT elect dictators here and our Constitution enumerates our God-given rights–including that of free speech. It also limits the powers of federal government against the individual. Does Obama really want to break the law??? Does he really want to look ridiculous doing so?? Maybe it is time to impeach him and half of Congress too. Nobody seems to abide by the laws of this land anymore.

Yes, excellent point. Thanks for bringing that up.

  • obiwankenobe

Sarah Palin was awesome in this skit. she is NOT a right wing ideologue. She is the ONLY national politician who is front and center for Native American rights. She is the ONLY U.S. Governor(now retired from political office temporarily) Who LEGISLATED mandatory 50% alternative energy use by 2025. This is right wing? I don’t think so. Palin 2012 America first!

P.S. She will support with all her power U.S. troops and special forces in the defence or our STILL GREAT NATION!

  • RecoveringDemocrat

I loved that skit. She’s so smart and funny and genuine (notice that her main focus was in those photos she posted was to raise awareness for the Wounded Warriors).

When I see comments all over the web about how stupid Palin is, I’m just exasperated. People claim she didn’t write her book, didn’t write her WaPo Op-Ed… Even mainstream commentators seem to get away with calling her a bimbo (i.e. Chris “She didn’t write her book” Matthews).

    How do we combat this?

I was recently in Missouri to attend a Palin book signing, and to see her speak to the College of the Ozarks. Two things struck me (beside the AMAZING crowd turnout in sub-freezing temps):

    1. The local paper interviewed her dad who related the fact that Sarah worked 20-hour days the entire month of August writing her book. She has kept a journal since she was 8 years old. Her father says “Sarah wrote her book.”

But people want to think she’s an idiot.

    2. At the speech, she delivered a stirring hour-long patriotic speech WITHOUT a teleprompter. She barely looked at her notes. She never lost her place. She was interrupted half a dozen times for standing ovations, but she just paused, then continued, as if reading the speech inside her head.

This woman is so much smarter than anyone gives her credit for. Her record IS bi-partisan. And I guess the only thing that gives me hope is when I hear some people starting to treat her with respect. I hope to see more of that.

Palin on the Rise; Obama is Old News

    By Jack Kelly
    RealClearPolitics.com

I’m sure a 6-year-old with a crayon could do something not unlike that,” snarked White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs Tuesday.

The object of Mr. Gibbs’ scorn was Gallup’s tracking poll for the day before, which showed only 47 percent of respondents approve of the job President Barack Obama is doing, with 46 percent disapproving.

Perhaps Mr. Gibbs’ skin was thin because this was the lowest ranking for a president at this point in his presidency since Gallup began conducting presidential approval polls in 1938.
