Obama Gives Himself a B+; U.S. Says C-

As you may know by now, Obama gave himself a B+ as president. If you haven’t read Bronwyn’s Harbor’s piece with the video clip, you might do so before eating. If you choose to watch after, I won’t answer for any sudden illness.

But what does the country think Obama deserves? CNN did a poll. U.S. citizens aren’t in the mood to grade on the curve. The country gives Obama a C-.

Do go to the CNN site. It is very interesting. As you scroll over each state, you see how people there graded Obama (and Democrats, Republicans, Congress). The most interesting thing I found is that the average grade of “C” is mostly an average of all grades received. Not that many people actually answered “C.”

For example, in Illinois, Obama gets:

A+ 16%
A 12%
A- 5%
B+ 6%
B 6%
B- 3%
C+ 2%
C 3%
C- 4%
—————–

D 13%

F 32%

Responders to the poll could choose from among 9 “passing” grades, from A+ to C-. There were only 2 “below average” grades: D and F. Yet, in Illinois, 45% chose some version of fail or near-fail.

The state with the lowest proportion of “failing grade” responses was Maryland, with 25%. Washington, DC is included in the poll and is even kinder at 17% F.

But take a look at those numbers. There are an awful lot of “Fs” in that data. Interesting.

How can the national average be C- when D and F account for 52% of the votes?

  • Preliminary and Pre-Decisional–Not For Distribution

We’ll have to wait to see what this does to his GPA:

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/12/15/obama.debt.commission/

You’ve got to wonder how documents allegedly marked “Preliminary and Pre-Decisional–Not For Distribution” turn up in a CNN article.

It’s probably not a good idea to let students assign themselves their own grades. Those who think they walk on water might give themselves “A”s no matter what, and those who are accustomed to doing poorly might just flunk themselves because they’re used to failing in every circumstance. In fact, I remember classroom experiments along these lines back in the ’70s. And if you happen to have a narcissistic personality disorder . . .

  • Peggy Sue

Wow! I hadn’t seen this Illinois poll. Those numbers are stunning, Lisa. I guess the “charm” has worn off and people are indeed waking up.

Obama and the Dems have us on an unsustainable fiscal track. And it’s all going to go “Boom” if they don’t put on the brakes. Anyone who has run a business or even a household budget knows that what we’re doing will only result in one thing: utter disaster. You cannot continuously spend more than you’re bringing in. I simply do not know what sort of bubble these DC types are living in. La-la land.

The self-grading on Oprah’s show was embarrassing. Even she looked/sounded a bit incredulous. B+? And an A- if he gets a healthcare bill passed? Has he not been reading the papers, heard the outrage?

The economy and jobs is the number 1 issue on the public’s radar. Not a botched healthcare bill that from all accounts will not reduce long-term costs and is fraught with problems.

This new omnibus bill is a perfect example of how out-of-touch this Administration and the Democratic Congress truly is [and btw, the Republicans stuffed this boondoggle, too]. $1.1 trillion. Another pork-fest after Obama said he would not agree or sign another one of these monsters. Yet, it’s expected the President “will” sign this, again.

My grade? An absolute F. And a free, one-way pass to get out of town.

  • TeakWoodKite

LisaB, what is of special note is the grade for A is a consistant 12 percent. It has the smell of a google bomb to me.
The second thing one notices is the absolutly soft belly of the “blue collar” B grades. This is the number that grabs me. It says BO would not be elected for a second term if a “selection” were held today.

Looking at the contrast of SOS Clinton’s job and state, is very telling. BO has consistent 30 percent negitive across the board and her grades
SOS Clintons map looks like more like an electoral map. Even the “conservative” states give her a C.
What does that say about BO’s political future?

  • PO’dVet

F- he has failed at every test, and done none of his homework. That’s failing no matter how you try to skew the poll!

  • Docelder

What does that say about BO’s political future?

What does it mean for our futures? That one isn’t going to be happy. It is going to take a major crisis to divert the negative attention.

We need a bigger clown car. Is there even a such a thing as a clown bus?

The White House is once again explaining how uninvited guests wound up shaking hands with President Barack Obama. This time, a Georgia couple hoping to tour the White House ended up at an invitation-only Veterans Day breakfast.

    Obama? C- Congress? Absent….totally

I just finished an area graph of these CNN “test” results. Who in the heck started this “grading” system? First BaBaWaWa tricks BillO into grading the pres. Then 60 minutes falls into this. Then harpO.

The bottom line is the CNN “grade” matches the performance polls we have been seeing for the past few weeks. Performance is measured that way only if you are playing politics, not running a business or a government.

Politics is like gambling or sports team stats. In those two ventures anything above 50% is a winner and anything is below. If you set F at 0 and A at 100 then, according to those comparable rating methods a C would be anything between 45%-55%.

In reality we would not accept a 50% grade in a classroom as average. We would not even accept it as passing. Some very creative person in the RoadHouseBeerJointOn1600 came up with this “points created and points not lost” and successfully got the press and public to buy into the premise that “grades” can be assigned by the decimal system, as opposed to the standard satisfactory performance system.

The CNN “survey” is a joke. This was a self-selected poll, a poll that is not only unscientific, but considered the easiest to corrupt. Even if the poll was accurate..

A score of 50 is a FAILING GRADE. Ask your teacher.

We are the teachers. We pass or fail people who ask for our votes. Remember that. You are the boss!

  • elizabethrc

This president seems intent on making himself totally unattractive and disliked by the American public. Surely he is bright enough to understand the arrogance his self-grade shows us?!! If not, that degree of delusion is dangerous and we should think very hard about impeaching a man who cannot see his mistakes, for surely he will continue to do so and ultimately may destroy us.

  • hokma

My thoughts exactly, but without seeing the raw numbers I would guess that the 33% in the “A” area probably skewed the average above “D.”

But given that this was CNN I would not give them the benefit of that doubt and they probably made it up.

Now the Arabs want their own money so they can have their very own bubble machine. I guess they don’t have faith in the prince of peace.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/6819136/Gulf-petro-powers-to-launch-currency-in-latest-threat-to-dollar-hegemony.html

The move will give the hyper-rich club of oil exporters a petro-currency of their own, greatly increasing their influence in the global exchange and capital markets and potentially displacing the US dollar as the pricing currency for oil contracts.

  • Docelder

We already know that the prince of peace is sending 100,000 troops into Afghanistan.

Zardari also “called on the United States to speed up military assistance to Pakistani forces and to intervene more forcefully with India

“With India” being the key phrase. Wow, they have no clue do they? Those troops aren’t there to help them fight with India.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has rebuffed an appeal from US President Barack Obama for a speedy expansion of military action in tribal areas

There is a disconnect building that corresponds nicely with the 100,000 troops. This answers the riddle… Why do we need 100,000 troops to counter 100 or so Al Qaeda? Maybe we don’t.

I haven’t read this anywhere yet, regarding Oprah’s question to Obama, inquiring as to what grade he gives himself.

Oprah “outed” Obama for being clueless. By responding that all he needed to go from a B+ to an A- was getting Health Care passed, he effectively told the nation that JOBS are not even a concern.

    Quite a “tell.”

  • FrenchNail

Those results are completely irrelevant to the White House.

The New York State Board of Elections just certified the results of the recent elections ALL THE WHILE admitting the results were riddled with fraud.

    http://www.thepostemail.com/2009/12/15/ny-board-of-elections-certifies-fraudulent-ny-23-election-results/

And they are working hard on redistricting for 2012.

And electing Socialist leaning candidates via a Soros funded group called Secretary of State project.

    http://spectator.org/archives/2009/12/04/soros-eyes-secretaries/

America is slowly awaking to the fact that this White House is not operating within the workframe of a Republic.

They do not care about our opinions or our votes for that matter. They are planning to do without as soon as yesterday.

  • Sassy

BO was being modest(in his own mind)when he went for the B+.
He stated early on that he “was good at being President”!
I will go with F followed by “up”!

The arrogance of this man limitless and dangerous. How can he give himself a B+ for doing nothing. I teach, and I worry that students who do nothing will come demanding that they get B+ just for the fact that they are students, since the president gives himself a B+ just for being president!
