The Test of Barack’s Character (Or Lack Thereof)

This is a simple question and a disturbing answer. If Barack would neglect his own family and tribe, what will he do to Americans he does not know?

This story in the Evening Standard exposes once again the Barack Obama we have been writing about for the last six months. According to the Standard:

The small brick house with no running water, a tin roof and roving chickens, goats and cows is owned by Sarah Obama, Barack’s 86-year-old step-grandmother. Inside, the walls are decorated with a 2008 Obama election sticker, an old “Barack Obama for Senate” poster on which he has written “Mama Sarah Habai [how are you?]“, a 2005 calendar that says “The Kenyan Wonder Boy in the US”, and more than a dozen family photos.

But this bucolic scene in his father’s village of Kogelo near the Equator in western Kenya conceals a troubling reality that, until now, has never been spoken about. Barack Obama, the Evening Standard can reveal, after we went to the village earlier this month, has failed to honour the pledges of assistance that he made to a school named in his honour when he visited here amid great fanfare two years ago.

At that historic homecoming in August 2006 Obama was greeted as a hero with thousands lining the dirt streets of Kogelo. He visited the Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary School built on land donated by his paternal grandfather. After addressing the pupils, a third of whom are orphans, and dancing with them as they sang songs in his honour, he was shown a school with four dilapidated classrooms that lacked even basic resources such as water, sanitation and electricity.

He told the assembled press, local politicians (who included current Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga), and students: “Hopefully I can provide some assistance in the future to this school and all that it can be.” He then turned to the school’s principal, Yuanita Obiero, and assured her and her teachers: “I know you are working very hard and struggling to bring up this school, but I have said I will assist the school and I will do so.”

Well, it was a pretty good bet that no one would dig into his roots. He’s been running for over a year and this is the first time I’ve ever heard of his step-grandmother’s plight or of the school’s existence.

Is the MSM all over it? No. Will we hear anymore about this shameful situation other than here on the blogs? No.

After Odingo lost the Pres. election Barry wrote the World Poverty Act and in deference to that, the elected Kenyan Pres. let Odingo become Prime Minister along with Sharia law. Those “pledges of assistance” Obama made may be stalled in a global poverty bill that has already passed in the House of Reps. and Obama is now trying to get it passed in the Senate.

Senator Obama wants to tie the U.S. into spending millions, if not billions, on Global Poverty. His Senate Bill S-2433, along with the already passed House version, never mentions the money involved, and for good reason. They don’t want anyone to know how much the money would be. The attempt at hiding the money in this Bill is ingenious to say the least. However, it is outright prevaricate, for it certainly took some maneuvering and underhanded thinking on the part of Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) in his HR 1302 and by Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) in his S2433 to come up with the idea.

The claim that there is no money provided for in this Bill is partially true in that it never directly mentions the money needed to fund this act. However, if one reads the U.N. Millennium Development Goals as set forth by Jeffery Sachs, it is easy to find out where the money is hidden.

Obama may be waiting for this bill to pass before he helps people in Africa, but once he does, the United States will have to file bankruptcy.

Wouldn’t any aid funds be funneled through the existing governments of African countries? Corruption is rampant in Africa and is the main reason that its people remain impoverished. I wonder what safeguards are built into the legislation that Obama is sponsoring to ensure that aid will go to the people of Africa and not to some Swiss bank accounts of Africa’s political leaders. One thing that these payoffs accomplish is to give multinationals the opportunities to exploit oil and minerals from these poor countries. It would be in our best interest (not to mention the best interest of the people of Africa) to do our best to make sure the poor share in the wealth of their continent’s assets. This would help a lot more than any aid the U.S. taxpayers could give.

Obama could easily have raised this sum of money to maintain the Kenyan orphanage. Rev. Wright or Father Pfleger could have taken up a collection at Trinity United Church of Christ or St. Sabina’s. Or it is not too late for Obama to donate some of the profits from his books.

Obama’s behavior follows a pretty consistent pattern. Prancing and preening in the public spotlight while doing nothing behind the scenes when it comes time to actually do some work.

I stand by what I said yesterday. A person is only as good as their word, and the word they choose to keep. Obama has not stood by any of his words. That tells me all I need to know about his character. What he promised them, and then actually did for them does not surprise me in the least. There are times I listen to him and I don’t know whether to be sad for the people believing all his promises. Or to be angry at him for making promises he has no intention of keeping. For these people it’s both sadness and anger because they have so little. They believed in him…

I looked at that photo, and my first thought was, “It looks like the happy gene skipped him.” He’ll never be content in life. No matter how much he has, he’ll want more and resent those who he thinks have what eludes him. We’ve not seen the likes of him, yet. I would like to see posts on these swing state polls, too. In analysis with why the national polls are claiming he now is eking ahead (barely) of McCain.

My guess is that they are skewing polls like mad to show Obama in single-digit leads over McCain because if they don’t make him seem competitive, however marginally, he WILL be dumped at the convention.

Here is their talking point on why Obama will win: they aren’t polling cell phone users. Yeah, and so, and what? Cell phone users are those kids who never vote.

And Greg Palast is floating their talking points on why Obama is gonna LOSE New Mexico and Colorado. He’s sending around BEGGING LETTERS for MONEY claiming that Colorado and NM Republicans are stripping minorities off the voting rolls.

Barack Obama could have done a number of things to help the school in Kenya, but it seems he did nothing.

He could have started a matching schools program in his own district and put American kids in touch with the school in Kenya. If $12,000 a year is all it takes to keep the Kenyan school going, a group of American kids raising money could have gone a long way towards this.

He could have set up a foundation and asked his political donors to dedicate a small portion of their donation to it.

Finally, a poster who gets the point of Larry’s article. Contrary to the paranoid outbursts with regard to AA reparations and the like, what this shows is how really inexperienced 0bama is and gives credence to the diagnosis that he is a narcissist.

This could have easily been dealt with using any of the suggestions that LDW posted. And what about his Church helping out, too? Back then he was a proud member, why didn’t he ask his fellow parishioners to do a fundraiser?

Interesting. I just watched the ’06 interview wih Charlie Rose (the one with Huffington on after, didn’t watch that part.) You’re right, both his words and actions show he’s on a mission besides money.

He sounds good on a superficial level. He contradicts himself a lot; I’d have to see more interviews to see how interviewers handle it… not impressed with Mr. Rose in this one at all.

It would seem Soros would have us believe he supported Obama to stop the disaster in Iraq, and for other reasons we’d generally agree with. $27.5 mn expended on getting rid of GWB. (But I think he made more than that manipulating the stock price of Halliburton through MoveOn… drove the stock down, bought it near bottom and then, yada, yada… not mentioned in interview…)

But when he goes a little deeper into it, it just doesn’t look like it’d hold up. Too much to go into here at 1:00 a.m. again my time. I’d love to see some of LaRouche’s colleagues interview him; they’d ask the right questions and wouldn’t be unkind (to the man… to his ideas, yes.) Interviewers have to ask the right questions, and be sure they get answered. I still think reading the dossier would be good preparation for an interviewer.

Anyway, thanks. I’ll try to look at more of him in these types of videos. …Oh, the dossier does quote an interview (I’ll have to look to see if it’s on video) the upshot of which was that Soros explicitly said he has no moral responsibility for the “unintended consequences” of his currency manipulations. Yet he’s well aware of the great suffering they cause.

What is on my mind this morning, still-Obama not visiting our troops; and how we are being treated as if we are stupid.Anyone, who has spent time with a service member or a military family knows there are and always have been DOD procedures for visiting any base or military hospital, or installation. What is being put out as a reason by the Obama campaign is a condescending load. There is an assumption that the American public is too stupid to see, that Obama, should have known the rules in advance; why doesn’t he? This garbage about trying to protect the troops from being part of a political discussion is pure bull.
Obama says he has visited at Walter Reed, then surely he remembers the rules, because they aren’t any different at Landstuhl.
Also, with the media joining in helping with the excuse making, it is insulting again to be treated as if we are stupid. Senator McCain has been both the wounded soldier and the one visiting. When he said it would be a seismic event if someone prevented him from visiting a wounded soldier, it is because he he knows the rules and follows them. His agenda is to visit the soldier, it is clear Obama’s agenda is himself. And it goes go to experience, Public Service 101, don’t try to pass off an inability to follow the rules with excuses of hollow respect, when it is clear a manipulation of the rules is at hand.
This attempt at trying to wiggle out of something the Obama campaign terms as “inappropriate” (which is code for, gee this is the best excuse we can come up with), isn’t going to work. It smacks of an entitlement attitude, which screams well I’ll just blame this on someone else, in this case the Pentagon.
I have had it for a long time with any fool who treats us as if we can’t connect the dots. If this was the truth, then nothing need have been said. But, hey Obama gets even more coverage because he has a sore hip, and made a visit to the hospital last night. He’s lucky to have a functioning hip, unlike many soldiers who probably do not; but he wouldn’t know, he couldn’t be bothered to meet them. A larger question, why doesn’t the voting public know these aren’t new rules, being “enforced” on a candidate? They are the day to day operating of the military. Maybe the voters need to also take some time to visit a wounded soldier or two.
He didn’t visit Landstuhl in 2006, but he didn’t get in his basketball. He won’t meet with Veterans groups; be he paints himself the hero who many people believe “voted” against the war. He made a speech against it, so did I in my kitchen, and it was more heartfelt with what I have to lose, my son. His handlers say he would have been criticized if he had visited the troops; so what!
He is afraid of this kind of criticism? Good thing he didn’t go, I wouldn’t want him spreading that “coward dust”, anywhere near our soldiers.

Barack Obama could have done a number of things to help the school in Kenya, but it seems he did nothing.

He could have started a matching schools program in his own district and put American kids in touch with the school in Kenya. If $12,000 a year is all it takes to keep the Kenyan school going, a group of American kids raising money could have gone a long way towards this.

He could have set up a foundation and asked his political donors to dedicate a small portion of their donation to it.
