The full text of the pending Senate version is available online. Maybe someone should send the republicans a memo?

Absolutely, Lorac. But in the year 2008, you would think women would better be able to spot that kind of brainwashing.

Much as I agree with where the behavior comes from, there may be an excuse for young women to buy into advertising and peer pressure and not know any better, but once a woman has been out in the world, fending for herself and/or raising a family, there comes a point when one has to make a decision about whose principles prevail -- someone else's or one's own.

I was raised in a ridiculously patriarchal environment where women were shamed constantly, yet no one could convince me that women were not capable of being in charge. I knew better from a very young age. If a woman doesn't trust herself, she is probably not going to trust another woman.

Check the new and improved HP now. After Afganistan, Wall street bailout, no help for
Main street, no public option HC etc, they are disappointed with Obama. Surprize,surprize... They were quick to label others who criticezed BO as racists. They are "racists" now too.

Layla, its just not men its many women also who feel they have to continue to be n*t lickers (sorry for being crude, it just irks me)as if they need to have approval of men. I come across too many women who spew such hatred towards Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin especially but coo about the men in office. I just don't get it.

A propos my post (to lorac), women as a gender need to evolve too. 2008 was surely a sign that this is what is needed too -- aside from calling out and standing up to sexism and misogyny.

Bingo, lorac! Patriarchy also teaches women to compete with each other, even though that interest may be against their own (women's) self-interest individually or as a group.

It's good to see that Hillary is receiving some appreciation now.
However, in all honesty, she has lost the support of my family.
They do not follow politics as closely as I, but were life-long dems, and always voted.
If John McCain had gotten the Republican nomination against George W. Bush, we would have voted McCain over Gore, and we reside in TN.!

The opposition is offering nothing but across the board opposition. They're quick to condemn any and every democratic initiative, but offer no constructive suggestions and spell out no clear alternatives of their own. Either they haven't got any, or realize that what they do have simply doesn't add up to anything different than what they've offered in the past.

Taxes are going to go up. They should go up. Any fool knows that the government can't spend more than it's got coming in without eventual disaster. The elephant in the room is the obvious conclusion that the wealthiest should be paying more, because they've already got 95% of the wealth, and because they continue to benefit far and away the most from the system we've got. They have a certain obligation to the pyramid below that supports the privilaged pinnacle they occupy, without which they would be nothing.

The perennial republican misdirection is to convince the common man that any talk of increased taxes is targeting him. I see through their duplicity. They support a very expensive war, for example, and howl about deficits, but they won't for a moment entertain the idea of specific taxation to pay for it. What does that reveal?

It would be interesting to see if Rahm runs for a congressional seat. I did read somewhere some time ago that he would like to have Pelosi's job. It would be a clear signal that perhaps he thinks that Obama might not run again in 2012
