Listen and Weep (or Laugh, Smirk, Sigh and Groan)

I’ve jotted down some highlights from this expansive, important discussion via Morning Joe that gives you an over-arching feel for what Obama’s real problems are, particularly Peggy Noonan’s brilliant differentiation between the spirit of 2008 and the hard realities of 2009, which you’ll hear towards the beginning of the video. Later in the discussion, Peggy Noonan says this, and it encapsulates what is wrong with the Obama presidency:

“He had a wasted first year. He was on one topic, and America was on another topic.”

Here are a few more notes I took as I listened to this segment from MSNBC’s Morning Joe:

“The president is weak. He needs to show more force and certitude.” (Scarborough) … “You sign a bad bill, you cost Democrats even more seats.” (Scarborough) … [Reads the polls, which you must hear (!)] … “When the left is mad at you, when the right is mad at you, when the center is mad at you, you’re doing a few things wrong.” (Peggy Noonan) … [Listen to Peggy Noonan's brilliant treatise on the difference between 2008 and 2009] … and on and on.

P.S. This is why I DVR Morning Joe every day. While a lot of the show can be fast-forwarded through, there are moments like this that make the show worth listening to.

Thanks for this, BH. I cannot STAND listening to Ed Schultz. He was SO conservative when he had his radio show, and when he went to MSNBC, he became this massive Obamaphile.

Like HILLARY wasn’t a generational candidate? Like she wasn’t the first of her GENDER to accomplish what she did? And like she didn’t get the majority of Dems? And like she didn’t have young women (and girls) FLOCKING to her? Such a BS reason to still push Obama – the youth vote crapola. The stats showed it was statistically insignificant anyway, so why keep harping on it? Because that’s all Schultz has. And he’s still back him? Shows he isn’t capable of learning from his mistakes, if you ask me! :-)

Joe S. is something, though. I can’t help but like him, maybe because he calls Hillary his girlfriend…

  • tango

What about when Peggy asked Ed Schultz that while she understands how he would choose Obama again over McCain but the big question is if he had to do it all over again, would he still choose Obama over Hillary? Of course, Ed said yes.

Even so Peggy still tried to downplay that Obama has a reputation in Washington of being weak and outsourcing all important decisions.

I saw only the last part of “Morning Joe” this morning (it ends at 6AM here on the Left Coast).

    Just two remarks:

David Axelrod turned up as stomach-churning as usual, and a lying sack of s**t, also as usual. His condescending/contemptuous dismissal of Howard Dean was disgusting, this is a pretty close quote:

“Yes, Howard Dean called the White House and we put him on to our point person for healthcare [some third level flack whose name I can't recall -cdp] and she went over it point by point showing him where he was wrong but he just wouldn’t listen.”

Think of it, Howard Dean (for whom I have no great love), a doctor, a former governor and arguably one of the best informed people in the world on American healthcare fobbed off on some political hack West Wing employee. Axelrod’s just another sociopath as far as I can see.

He then went on, incredibly, to whine about how the White House was fighting the insurance lobby tooth and nail… I turned off the TV before I did something drastic.

Second point: I didn’t see Peggy Noonan but I would be very careful before giving her any credence at all, she is a true enemy of any true progressive, read this:
    http://peggynoonan.com/article.php?article=244
and see if you don’t agree – be warned it’s pretty stomach-churning too.

  • Venus9

Why is Obama losing the support of his base? That’s a no-brainer. He’s betrayed them each and every time.

  • mountainaires

David Axelrod was simply astonishing this morning on “Joe.”

He lied, and he looked so DESPERATE while he was doing it.

People don’t believe this White House anymore, and this WH better figure that out.

They seem to think they can muscle their way through, sign this abomination, and all will be well. It won’t. The American people don’t want this bullshit; they want JOBS.

I cannot–CANNOT–believe any White House could be so fucking tone deaf.

  • mountainaires

Oh, uh, and Howard Dean, DNC Chair, is the one who actually got Obama elected. Don’t forget, his DNC voted to give Obama 55 delegates from Michigan in the race for the Dem nominaton. Obama wasn’t even on the ballot in Michigan during the primaries. Dean got Obama INTO the White House.

So Axelrod just proved to everyone who knows what a bunch of FUCKING SCUMBAGS they are in the Obama Administration. They aren’t even loyal to the people who put them in office.

If they can SHIT on Howard Dean, you don’t think they’ll SHIT on you?

    Of course they will.

    And, they have.

    And, they will.

Bush was the “WORST PRESIDENT EVER.”

    Obama is “WORSE THAN BUSH.”

  • http://www.syd4.blogspot.com SYD

OMG! Howie will support Obama for re-election. “Not vigorously” though.

    ROFLOL…..

    *Not vigorously???”

  • http://! stodgie

look obama is weak, not that bright, not that articulate and certainly has no great love for americans or america. now if i believe that, rest assured that america and now the rest of the world either knows or is starting to understand that. if the pundits and dc says weak, it says move ahead with the challenges to the bad guys. all the dufuses who would vote for him again, i ask you to get medical help.

  • jangles

Ed apparently did not notice that it was the youth vote that did not show up in NJ and VA for the anointed -0 candidate of choice. They were not there for Capauano either. Nothing could be worse for the Dems Big Eddie than to have all those young folks gaga over -0 and then to sell them out on all the reasons they supported him. Just wait until they start getting their health care mandate—they are going to love that. They can pile up those health insurance premiums they do not need and can’t afford on top of their student loans.

  • jbjd

BH, thank you so much for posting these videos. I would not have known otherwise the latest provisions of the health bill, which bill I reject anyway. BO told us the real reason he wants the bill to pass: while the provisions of the bill become effective only in a few years; the taxing to fund the bill becomes effective immediately. And he said, without the bill, the country will go bankrupt. This means, he needs this bill to fund the US Treasury (to pay off the loans to Wall Street or, to spend to stimulate the economy to create jobs?) but not to provide immediate relief to individuals and small businesses in terms of providing affordable health care options.

  • Diana L. C.

    Bronwyn,

Thank you for the videos. I’ve been busily cleaning my entire house so I can FINALLY decorate for Christmas. I haven’t watched t.v.–etc.

As these people discussed O’s leadership style, or lack therof, there was one issue that nobody EVER brings up. How much influence in regard to his falling polls do people like us–the Hillary supporters who feel he is a total liar, jerk, narcissist, sexist person who felt it o.k. to steal a primary, who refuses to really turn over his records–have for those low ratings? I have been pounding my obot friends and family with my reminiscences from the primary. As these obots are losing their love for and faith in The One, they have been less eager to call me paranoid and actually DO listen. Perhaps they are also starting to question his lack of good character.

  • beachnan

Ed has an ego that is almost as big as Obama’s. He can’t admit that he would have preferred Hillary, because then he would have to admit he was wrong and he certainly wouldn’t want to do that.

  • Obamastolemycoutry

Just think how many more birthers there could be within the next couples months! Boy, put those lefties on that mission and he;ll probably get impeached for sure. Many of them want him recalled (if that were possible). Since Daily KOS posted that supposed COLB, maybe they could just as easily created a “real” Kenyan BC. This should get more and more interesting. I always knew the left would turn on itself. Many even think tea parties are a great idea.

You have to give Obama credit. It was certainly true that he is a great uniter. He has united Democrats, Republicans and Independents all against him. That is an amazing feat and I am very willing to credit him with that accomplishment.

    Accomplishment list:
    1. Everybody hate Barack Who’s Vain Obama.

Mission accomplished and so rapidly! Bravo BO! Bravo!

  • jbjd

DLC, I don’t know whether your theory is correct but, I suspect, it could be. The latest article I posted on my blog describes a history lesson I gave to 9th graders. The class ends with the students exclaiming that the DNC vetted BO and found out he was not a NBC. (I remain ‘neutral.’) Obviously, the point I made is that, the fraud was so obvious even 9th graders ‘get it.’ Well, I have been inundated with ‘new’ commenters, sounding suspiciously like, they were ‘trying’ to be polite but, too often bringing up snarky remarks like, ‘Did you tell your students that many people thought John McCain might not be a NBC, either?’ Or, ‘Did you tell them that HRC announced her support for BO even before the Convention?’

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

    On that we can agree!

  • Peggy Sue

I agree, jbjd. I think we’re looking at another shell game. And that would certainly explain why the Administration is willing to pass the bill, any bill and the consequences be damned.

I think this has little to do with healthcare, just another game in a series of interlocking games to avoid telling the truth.

    Another disaster in the making.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Hahaha. I saw that too. Feels like he’s giving him an ultimatum. Well, those sure work! hahaaaaa. How sad is Dean for even suggesting he’d take that abuse and still be willing to bend over for the Dems. Guess he has no place to go.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Yes, PeggySue…now you see it, now you don’t. Now there’s a public option, now there’s not. Now illegals are out but wait! we’ll make all of them citizens next year and by the time it all hits the fan they’ll be tax paying Dims. Pretty damn shameful.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Although I didn’t watch the Ophrey WH special, I saw a clip (before I could switch the channel) of the 0zer0s thinking they were being cute by pretending to argue over who gives the best gifts. Not cute, rehearsed and mere amateurs without a smidge of presidential polish. So sad that we have had these frauds foisted on us.

When the Republicans take over congress next year, they’ll be outed each and every day as to what a couple of neophytes we have in the WH.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Dims have always had an appetite for eating their own. See how they salivate! I knew this even when I was one though I hate to admit that I was always loyal.

  • Docelder

At the least, we need to address this issue of natural citizenship so that it never comes up again. You have to show a birth certificate to play little league baseball, but not to be the President of the United States. That is the sad reality of it. Without admitting fault or assessing blame at all, this issue could and should be addressed.

  • Patience

Thanks for the videos Bronwyn. I’m appreciating Joe Scarborough more and more. He’s the only one worth watching on MSNBC/NBC.

So, to sum it all up: Mika’s hoping yet another leg-tingling speech will save the day, Chuck Todd’s expression is looking funereal, Joe Conason seems ready to jettison the President (nothing new — except now it isn’t Bush), Mark Halperin is still making excuses (and probably wondering if he should’ve helped the POTUS by making him Time’s Person of the Year again), Tina Brown and Ed Shultz — well, do they even matter?

Peggy Noonan stated the obvious, in her usual confessingly-pedantic way.

I’m curious to see how things will unfold with major media now that it can’t be denied something’s very wrong with this POTUS. They may never fully admit it but surely they know he’s no leader or man of principle, but is instead a vain, lazy little-leaguer and the charmless Rahm Emanuel is our de facto President. It’s deja-vu all over again except these political pikers have fractured their party in record time.

  • Becky

    what Patience said

  • http://! stodgie

yes true annie! i do think that dean has been waiting for an opportunity to return the knife stuck in his back by bo. now he has it. i think he relishes it also.

  • http://! stodgie

patiece, good post. mika just irritates me no end. i want to yell through the tv and say shut up lady, you are an idxxx.

  • foxy voter

Peggy Noonan in comments about Healthcare said — The Left Hates This Bill, The Right Hates This Bill and The Center Hates This Bill. What you have on your hands is a DISASTER.

  • foxy voter

I thought Obama didn’t celebrate Christmas.

  • foxy voter

The Bill Senators will be voting on is not the floor bill but another bill which has only been seen by Pelosi, Reid and the Dem Leadership. So when Lieberman made his deal with the devil what in the Hell was he signing onto?

  • Docelder

The senate is just learning that being the 59th democrat is worth squat… but being the 60th democrat is the lotto. This is to their own peril as they are creating a monster they can’t afford to feed.

  • jbjd

PS, yep, it’s just like I wrote about WH Counsel Bob Bauer! (COUNSEL for DNC SERVICES CORPORATION PERFORMS 3 CARD MONTE* for FEDERAL COURT)

You my dear, seem to be the only American who has picked up on this.

I remember this because I dont do Xmas either.

  • Elizabeth

They may listen but how much of the mounting many trillion dollar buildup of public debt to bail out industry and banks, and to provide a fiscal stimulus is recoverable ? Irreversible errors are a moot point.

  • maryann

    Which would make Obama TWAP.
    The Worst American President
(even though he’s a British citizen usurper and none y’all give a rip about the Constitution so you call him a president)

  • maryann

The think if they just push through their marxist agenda they will hold ultimate powah and the little people will be made irrelevant.
“Damn the torpedoes full steam ahead!!” They believe commie Nirvana awaits them.

And Axelrod IS the combover commie, in the shade he looks EXACTLY like hitler.

  • maryann

The GOP will be gobbled up by and married to tea partiers to now become the GO-TEA
    which sounds nice to boot

  • Sassy

While these pundits appear to be acknowledging some reality, there are still many “Obama’s first term” references inserted in the discussions.
Hello! They are still being presumptious!
