The Obamacare Late Night Open Thread

Oh, I can’t wait until you all see the post that LisaB has written about a great American’s fears about Obama. I can’t wait until you see the cartoon that Pat Racimora has created, along with a poignant story. I can’t wait until you see Larry Doyle’s critically important piece on the Cantwell-McCain legislation. I can’t wait until you see Craig Della Penna’s stark takedown of Obamacare … but you must wait until manana (and Sunday). Yes, these are all posts that these writers have completed, and are scheduled for the next couple days. But, you’ll just have to wait to see them. In the meantime, here’s the latest ad to fight Obamacare:

The League of American Voters is asking for donations in order to run this ad as much as possible. Hey, I suppose most of us could handle $5, which all adds up.

Ben Nelson is in a world of hurt if he votes for the Obamacare plan. He will almost surely lose his Senate seat. You’d think that for the sake of self-preservation, he’d vote against it. But the pressures from his fellow senators and the White House must be enormous, because he keeps hinting that he could be talked into voting for the plan. I don’t get it. Why, Ben, why? Stand strong, man!

Maybe this ad will help sway Nelson. Let’s hope that his constituents call and flood his office with angry calls.

This is one of those “Profiles in Courage” moments. Guess we’ll see what Ben Nelson is made of.

If he turns out to truly represent his constituents, I’ll take back my earlier comment that there’s not one member of congress worthy of respect.

  • Docelder

he keeps hinting that he could be talked into voting for the plan.

Yep, because after the Landrieu payoff these greedy bastards have a taste for the lotto prize they can have for being number 60. Being numbers 1-59 is worth squat, they face the same payback from the voters as number 60, but with none of the benefits of bringing home the number 60 lotto winnings. So, I expect that a lot of them will want to have a turn at senate lotto. As soon as they get to 60, somebody will have some reason to drop off and wait for the jackpot. Repeat. They may never get another thing done. Good for them.

But it seems that his constituents are so adamantly opposed to Obamacare. Do you really think that they will be sufficiently aware of the goodies he might get that they wouldn’t hold his vote against him?

I’ve wondered the same about Landrieu. Do her constituents realize how much pork she got for them, or are they still furious with her for backing Obamacare?

About these questions, I am ignorant. I don’t read the newspapers in Louisiana and Nebraska. But I am very curious what the residents of those two states really feel.

My hunch is that most residents are not aware of the pork. But nearly all of them will be aware that their senator voted for Obamacare, and will throw them out on their ears.

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Today, I had a small issue to resolve with Amazon about an order. And I called 411 and got the 800 customer service number. You all might want to add this number to your ADDRESS BOOKS just in case you ever have a problem or issue with an order:

    800-201-7575

I got through to a real human being very quickly, and he couldn’t have been more helpful. It was a great customer service experience.

Where have all the tea partiers gone? Now is not the time to give up. Maybe the fact that so many have been out of work for so long, they have given up hope that we can change the minds of our representatives. Are these congressmen even reading the polls?

Right about now Ried is lookin a might pale. Someone is checkin it twice.

    Coal in the Stockin Blues?
    OT:
I have been offline for a few days with going to Win7 and it is better than Vista. The driver libraries for all but one device worked ok, even though they were the Vista drivers. Dell does not have drivers for my model on their download page yet.

Harbor Master, I still have a few last minute items to get from Amazon via NQ. :)

It has been such a busy week, I did not know it was Friday until my 2nd cup o’ java this am.

A family member was looking over a medical bill and found a hospital charge for 600 dollars for 2cc’s of some cancer drug. After some research they found it could be purchased for 2 dollars for 2 cc’s.

Prime Minister: Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaking suspicion… love actually is all around.

    “Love Actually”

    Happy Holidays one and all.

Actually I don’t think Ben Nelson is any great champion with the health insurance bill. He just wants to make it more difficult for women to have reproductive rights and choice:

Nelson just doesn’t want any chance that abortion may get covered in some way in the health care plan.

beachnan: I don’t think anyone has disbanded…hard to get plans going around the holidays. I think my locals are still calling congress and gearing up for a war over amnesty. What can you expect from a state which spawns a Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, Arnie and Gov. Moonbeam? Not to mention SF Mayor Newsom.

Our Rep, Sam Farr is completely in the pocket of the ag growers…and a member of the Democrat Socialists of America. We have no representation from him. Democrat rubber stamp. I’m hoping he can be voted out…but it’s a long shot. He inherited his office from his father…how sick is that? Oh, forgot. Same with Algore. However, if Boxer can be in jeopardy, maybe we can find a challenger to Farr. I think people around here would welcome a change…if they could put up someone strong on the coastal protections. If former ebay CEO, Meg Whitman takes the Republican primary (and there are no strong challengers as of now) she has a great chance of becoming Governor…against the only serious Dem contender Jerry moonbeam Brown. There’s no enthusiasm for a return of Jerry. Poor California…it used to be such a paradise in which to live. Still beautiful but harder and harder to live here…12% unemployment statewide…15% in our county.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Doesn’t that also represent the stance of the majority of his constituents as well?

I don’t want to be forced to pay for someone’s abortion either. Abortion is legal. Fine. But Planned Parenthood should not be funded with tax dollars. All of these things belong in private funding so far as I’m concerned. I would prefer the entire issue be separated from government involvement, laws, etc. It’s a private matter.

  • Peggy Sue

Oh good! This is an open thread. And I may not get another chance to post this link before leaving for the holiday [unless we get totally snowed in].

Anyway I caught this over at RBO and then picked up the original on you-tube.

But this made me laugh and God knows we need laughs where ever we can find them. Enjoy!

    Hahahaha…no apologies necessary, PS.

AnnieCarmel: isn’t it amazing the transformational time the election season of 2007-2008? I used to love calling myself a liberal, and I was very proud of living in such a liberal/progressive area/state. What an awaking the past election was. I still can’t listen to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, without feeling icky, but the same can be said of listening to Air America, or our local affiliate KXRA. I’m still trying to figure out where I fit in, but I feel that my eyes have been opened, and I can look at everything now with a more objective mind. As time goes on, I hope that there are more of us than the crazies on the right and on the left.

There’s going to be a Tea Party convention in Feb. There have been demonstrations all along around the country. MSM ignores.

At one of the first tea parties, a black guy selling flags got beat up by union members; called all kind of names. Where was Shapton/Jackson? If this had happened on the other side their mugs would have been plastered all over the news. As for the guy beat up, he’s seeking his day in court.

  • jangles

LOLA loves pork; Nebraska, not so much. Mr. Nelson is probably not looking at re-election but at his post Senate career and playing for a big post retirement payoff.

  • Peggy Sue

I heard this morning that Nelson had folded. It’s becoming increasingly clear that every US Senator has his or her price. In this case, it’s reported Nelson’s concerns over the abortion question has been addressed. Apparently, his constituents concerns were put on a back burner.

They’ve got to get that vote locked up and get out of town. Before the posse arrives.

For good or ill, the Democrats own this one.

I am really perplexed why no one seems interested in this story. Americans are involved in yet another war, this time helping the Saudis blow up the Yemenis. We have now managed to begin killing civilians on another front. WTH is wrong that this is not considered news?
