Am I Going To Have To Support This Baby Chick?

My first thought when I saw the MoveOn ad below was,

Gee, I really want to suck my thumb.”

But after I saw it on the internets a few times, I realized that this is not what most adults would be thinking if they saw this ad. Instead, they would more likely recognize their own Gen-Y kids who are hanging around still being supported by Mom and Dad, pretending to be “upscale” on their parents’ money. The parents would be thinking about how their charming and sensitive little dependents don’t seem to be offering the slightest indication that they have any intention of actually getting off on their own and paying for silly things like their own own heat, food, property taxes, car insurance and cell phones–for a change.

This condition, of course, allows a generation known as America’s longest-running parental dependents to hang around all dreamy-eyed, thinking of Hopey-Changey – while pushing the age of 30 in some cases. So I would imagine that their parents’ actual reaction if they saw this ad would be,

Am I going to have to support that baby chick!???”.

That’s why MoveOn will be more likely to run this ad on MTV and Comedy Central– so that all these sweet, sensitive, expensive dependents will remember to get up on Election Day and do that irritating Vote Thing.

On second thought I guess it is. Ho-pes…affects the mind…and you you can catch it from close contact with Obots…rots the mind instead of the genitals.

        • Jack

Hell, at first I thought it was an ad for a herpes drug.

It’s a blend of a herpes drug commercial and the 1980′s “Just Say No” anti-drug abuse commercial.

those MoveOn-ers. Not only are they tacky, they are out of date.

Hey, MoveON guys, YOU ARE NOT HIP, you are old-fashioned, old fogeys. Maybe you should look for work writing out-of-date jokes for Saturday Night Live.

Cannot beleive that our future is going down the tubes with these spoiled brats that have no idea why they are voting for Obamafraud.

They don’t realize Obama’s Hope campaign is over. The hope is over, it is realized in the nomination (they think) of Obama. We do not need to hope for change any more. Obama has proven he is for change. He is no liar here. Obama is Change. Changed positions. Changed ideas. Changed friends. Changed mentors. Chhhaaaannngggge.

The Republicans will love this ad. They see Democrats (and now I’m starting to agree) as utopianists.

The ad reeks of how ungrounded Obama’s campaign is. Hope is great if it bridges what’s on the ground now to what you hope it could be. But with Obama there is no bridge. You just have to leap. That’s why he says “I’m asking you to Believe” at the top of every page on his website.

    • http://www.oohnuance.blogspot.com madamab

That ad is so ageist. “Sorry Mom and Dad, I have Hope.” WTF? People over 30 don’t hope for anything?

Seriously, that ad misses the mark by a mile. People who already support Obama will love it, I’ll bet, but it certainly won’t convince anyone who thinks Obama is unqualified to “come to” him.

      • AF catfish

U.S. Census data shows the estimated percentage of the population between the ages of 20 and 29 is @ 14% or 42,100,000. Of them, Barry is claiming, I think, something like 70% of them, or just under 25,000,000.
This leaves around 250,000,000 people OLDER than they are.
Barry’s numbers for that huge group just flat suck.
After this election, there will be NO ONE who will have admitted to voting for Barry with the exception of Bill Ayers and that murder attempting bitch he married, Rev. Wrong, Donna of the Brassiere, and that dumbshit wife of his.

Oh really? By your standards Obama is an old man. Actually he is past middle age, not quite the young man he wishes to appear. Rock concerts, rap music and flippin the bird and dusting the shoulders do not make him young, just infantile. It’s your world only if you can take it and HOLD it. I can tell, you underestimate the force and power, both monetary and patriotic that is moving across the USA, and it is NOT in favor of Obama. It is the baby boomers and mid age people, the ones that you hold in such contempt. They are the ones with the money and not the college students who call daddy and momma for more money. Dream on. Follow your ONE, lie, cheat and steal,as do many of his supporters. You may win the battle but I promise you,you will lose the war.

That is so typical of the Obama campaign, no substance. When I saw it I started having flash backs to 2000 and the Bush campaign a lot of sloganeering and not much else. The Obama campaign has taken that tack and up it.

I haven’t seen the ad but the other day I went to visit my daughter who lives about 30 miles outside of the city where I live in a rural community. She’s in her 20′s and we went to a strip mall where they have the chain grocery store and a Chinese restaurant(very rural). We were coming out of the restuarant when this young 20 something guy with an Obama 08 t-shirt comes up to my daughter, not me, and asks if she’s registered to vote. He had his petition with him and she told him she’s already registered and that she’s not voting for BO. He just walked away. I almost felt sorry for him because he’s buying this crap that BO is dishing out because he can’t see past the hype. He’s using these young people promising them something that doesn’t exist. How horrible that he has tapped into the desperate need of young adults to believe in anything when he can offer them NOTHING.

    • NoTrollZone

those who have been caught up in Obama-hype should read “grief- it’s a quiet thing” cause they’re about to get a big old plate of grief. Emily Dickinson and methadone might be the only hope they have as they try to make the long journey back to reality.

ad of frying eggs was stupid enough. If you were on drugs, it made you hungry. If you weren’t on drugs, it made you laugh.
I’m actually quite happy to see that this is the quality of ad the Obrats will produce. Between this quality of ad and anything Michelle says I believe McCain will win Illinois as well as every province in the realm. Keep it coming!

I WONDER IF THIS AD IS TELLING US NOT TO EAT THE EGGS. LET THE EGGS GROW UP TO BE CHICKS, MAYBE? SURE AS HELL AN EGG IS NOT THE SIZE OF A BRAIN

What shows his campaign is so nonsubstantive is the way they are so easily turned away with a “No, not voting for Obama!” If it were me, I’d at least ask why and try to change their mind, if only for a minute.

What worries me is the discussed Olymipic advertizements he’s planning.

This ad reminds me of the song Sugar Mountain by Neil Young

Oh, to live on sugar mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You cant be twenty on sugar mountain
Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon,
    Youre leaving there too soon.

Its so noisy at the fair
But all your friends are there
And the candy floss you had
And your mother and your dad.

Oh, to live on sugar mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You cant be twenty on sugar mountain
Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon,
    Youre leaving there too soon.

Theres a girl just down the aisle,
Oh, to turn and see her smile.
You can hear the words she wrote
As you read the hidden note.

Oh, to live on sugar mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You cant be twenty on sugar mountain
Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon,
    Youre leaving there too soon.

    Now youre underneath the stairs
And youre givin back some glares
To the people who you met
    And its your first cigarette.

Oh, to live on sugar mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You cant be twenty on sugar mountain
Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon,
    Youre leaving there too soon.

Now you say youre leavin home
cause you want to be alone.
Aint it funny how you feel
When youre findin out its real?

Oh, to live on sugar mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You cant be twenty on sugar mountain
Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon,
    Youre leaving there too soon.

Oh, to live on sugar mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You cant be twenty on sugar mountain
Though youre thinking that youre leaving there too soon,
    Youre leaving there too soon.

It is time for the under 30 crowd to jump off the mountain and get a clue.

‘Active grannies’ the new soccer moms
By MARK J. PENN | 7/29/08 4:36 AM EST Text Size:

Despite all the talk about this election being driven by the youth vote, America as a nation has never been older and the power of the senior vote has never been greater.

In the relentless quest to find the soccer moms of this election, perhaps the answer will be found in the “active granny” vote — empty-nesters who have found a new freedom in their lives after the kids have left and who look at the world very differently than do their kids graduating college. The seniors of today may not be the so-called Greatest Generation, but they sure are the biggest generation — and their voting power has been compounded by the dramatic expansion in average life expectancy that’s occurred since they were born.

  • jbjd

These are the same people who complained the death of 3-year-old Curtis Cooper could not be blamed on the fact that an iron gate guarding a dilapidated public housing complex in Chicago fell off its rusted hinges and crushed his skull, but on his mother, who let him play outside while she watched from her balcony; on the adults, who weren’t around to lift the gate off his lifeless body; and, of course, the children, who should not have been swinging on the gate in the first place. I blame BO, and Rezko, and Davis, and their cronies for Curtis’ death, because they stole the tax revenues intended to improve the lives of residents of Chicago. And I blame all the voters who failed to stop these men from killing this baby.

We need solutions to the problems that we will be

“Obama Voted For Bush/Cheney Energy Bill, Written In Secret By Industry Lobbyists”
    – New York Times

OBAMA’S SUPPORT FOR BUSH/CHENEY ENERGY POLICY
Sen. Obama voted for the 2005 Energy Bill, written in secret by Vice President Cheney and the energy lobby. Thomas Friedman referred to the bill as “the sum of all lobbies.” U.S. PIRG noted that the bill’s “heavy tilt toward big oil companies reflects the influence of Exxon Mobil and other oil companies on policy-makers in Washington, DC.”

The Washington Post editorialized that the bill was a “piñata of perks for energy industries.” Indeed, the bill contained $6 billion in subsidies to the oil and gas industry and $12 billion to the nuclear power industry.

Although Sen. Obama voted for the legislation, he has spoken as if he opposed it on the campaign trail, criticizing it repeatedly. At a presidential debate he said “You can look at how Dick Cheney did his energy policy…he met with oil and gas companies forty times, and that’s how they put together our energy policy.” He’s attributed the failure of our current energy policy to Congress’s “failure to stand up to the lobbyists.”

Sen. Obama’s rhetoric blasting the policies of Vice President Dick Cheney and energy lobbyists can be stirring. But Obama’s actions haven’t matched his words.

    Read the details:

Public Citizen: Energy lobby gained ‘exclusive, private access to lawmakers’ to advocate for 2005 Energy Bill ‘starting with vice-president Dick Cheney’s energy task force’: “Since 2001, energy corporations have showered federal politicians with $115 million in campaign contributions—with three-quarters of that amount going to Republicans. This cash helped secure energy companies and their lobbyists exclusive, private access to lawmakers, starting with Vice-President Dick Cheney’s Energy Task Force, whose report provided the foundation of the energy bill passed by Congress and signed by President Bush on August 8.” [Public Citizen, "The Best Energy Bill Corporations Could Buy," citizen.org]

U.S. PIRG: ‘The [2005 Energy Bill] energy law’s heavy tilt toward big oil companies reflects the influence of Exxon Mobil and other oil companies on policy-makers in Washington, DC’: “The new energy law’s heavy tilt toward big oil companies reflects the influence of ExxonMobil and other oil companies on policy-makers in Washington, DC.” [U.S. Public Interest Research Group, "How Exxon Mobil and the Oil Industry Benefit from the 2005 Energy Bill," 8/2005]

Thomas Friedman: 2005 Energy Bill Was ‘The Sum of All Lobbies’: “This bill is what the energy expert Gal Luft calls ‘the sum of all lobbies.’ While it contains some useful provisions, it also contains massive pork slabs dished out to the vested interests who need them least — like oil companies — and has no overarching strategy to deal with the new world…The sum of all lobbies.” [Thomas Friedman, New York Times, 8/5/05]

Washington Post: 2005 Energy Bill was ‘a piñata of perks for energy industries’: The Washington Post said, “…The energy bill, touted as a way to reduce dependence on foreign oil or moderate gasoline prices, has been turned into a piñata of perks for energy industries.” [Washington Post, 7/30/05]

Energy Bill gave $6 billion in subsidies to oil & gas industry and $12 billion in subsidies to nuclear power industry: [Public Citizen, "The Best Energy Bill Corporations Could Buy," citizen.org]

Obama: ‘You can look at how Dick Cheney did his energy policy…he met with oil and gas companies forty times, and that’s how they put together our energy policy’: “The one thing I have to remind folks, though, of – we’ve been talking about this through Republican administrations and Democratic administrations for decades. And the reason it doesn’t change – you can take a look at how Dick Cheney did his energy policy. He met with environmental groups one, he met with renewable energy folks once, and then he met with oil and gas companies forty times, and that’s how they put together our energy policy. We’ve got to put the national interest ahead of the special interest, and that’s what I’ll do when I’m President of the United States.” [Democratic Presidential Debate, 7/23/07]

Obama: ‘I’m in Washington. I see what’s going on. I see those powers and principalities have snuck back in there, and they’re writing the energy bills’: “Speaking early this month at a church in Selma, Ala., Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said: “I’m in Washington. I see what’s going on. I see those powers and principalities have snuck back in there, that they’re writing the energy bills and the drug laws.” It was a fine populist riff calculated to appeal to Democratic audiences as Obama seeks his party’s presidential nomination. But not only did Obama vote for the Senate’s big energy bill in 2005, he also put out a press release bragging about its provisions, and his Senate Web site carries a news article about the vote headlined, “Senate energy bill contains goodies for Illinois.” [The Politico, 3/26/07]
    =====================================================

Let’s not forget Obama said that he wa the only candidate that voted no on Bush-Dick Chengy Engery Bill. And then with the same breath he said Hillary did not stand up to the oil companys. He stood there and said this infront of many.

They couldn’t find good-looking people to be in their ad? That guy’s teeth were disgusting AND yellow! Hope to brush his teeth, get off the couch, and get a job.

Maybe MoveOn was going for shock and horror value by including repellent looking people.

    • Clinton Fan

Yeah, that jerk with “the teeth” was a bit over the top, IMO. And that bozo crouched on the stool? Didn’t any adult in his life teach him how to SIT? That’s pretty fucking basic, IMO…

I realize that styles change, but basic grooming never goes out of style. Good thing we don’t have Smell-a-Vision, I guess!

    Hope.

It’s not just for elections anymore.

Oh, and I knew this country was in DEEP TROUBLE when mature people like Claire McCaskill (someone I donated money to in ’06 and regret it completely now) revealed multiple times in the media that she was for Obama because her kids were.

I hope they don’t also advise her on Senate decisions.

Hey Claire, I’d like a refund now.

This is the most absurd ad I’ve ever seen.

Can anyone tell me what the Hell it means?

    Hillary or McCain ’08!!!

Is this like those school projects where they pair them up and give them an egg to take care – pretending it’s a child? or, is it a chicken in every pot promise?
Although, by the look of those kids it’s more like “some pot in each cheek”

  • apishapa

DO chickies make a squishy, chirpy sound when they get thrown under a bus? Cannot wait for that commercial.

  • Clinton Fan

OMG!!! Like, WOW, DUDE!! I mean, actually, that’s, like, you know, seriously, like, maaaahn, actually…that’s, like, … an AD!! Maaaahn!!!!

That is easily the most HORRIBLE ad I’ve ever seen! That goofy guy looks like he’s about to EAT the little chick…and most of those ugly, overgrown, pimple popping and self-satisfied children DO look like the No Income Kids with Education (NIKEs) that dwell in the basements of way too many laboring parents, who are not only paying off little Fauntleroy’s college loans, they’re also recharging his Debit Visa every month so he can pretend to be prosperous.

That’s the future? We’re fucked. Giddy little tools.
