Stop Picking On My Messiah!

In today’s Washington Post, Richard Cohen discusses Obama the Unknown. Here’s the main juice:

Obama “gave a hell of a speech, but it was just a speech.” There is little else to back it up.

He wouldn’t want to underestimate Obama, but his paper thin record is troubling.

Obama can flip flop with the best of them, just like any other politician.

Cohen states that Obama is a ‘near perfect political package although he’s just not sure what’s in it,’ but in a mystifying moment of pandering rivaling that of his subject, he’s still willing to compare BHO to JFK and FDR.

WTF?

Richie, if you’ve been watching this man campaign and perusing what there is of his record for a year and a half and you’re still not sure what’s in the package – maybe the package is empty. Whadaya think?

If this passes for mainstream commentary, I’ll take the net. However, Cohen still finds a lot more in Senator McCain’s record, conduct and proven courage over time to admire and trust. It ain’t a smoking gun, but frankly, given the media’s love-fest with Obama, I’ll take what I can get.

Yes, Richard, we know. One speech, or even two, does not a President make. Lofty generalities and lefty platitudes designed to seduce latté liberals and young minds for the primary, only to throw those ‘principles’ away lock, stock and suitcase for the general election does not FDR make.

Obama wishes he had the resolve of FDR. As for Kennedy, this is a romantic notion, nothing more. Neither packaging nor symbols lead people: women do, men do.

Far more interesting, and entertaining, than the piece itself, however, are the blogger comments that follow. Senator Obama’s fans, or should I say, believers, are absolutely apoplectic over this article, as if Richard Cohen has just told Obama to bow out of the race. Some of the insults are really quite comical, like telling Cohen what to do with his typewriter…I’ll leave out the more vitriolic references. You have heard them before, too.

Now as a huge Hillary supporter, of course I’m going to defend my gal, so I can understand their inclination. Then again, her record of 35 years of work on behalf of children, education, veterans’ benefits, first responders, Medicare and women’s rights (both in evidence again just last week), and her correct vote on FISA, give me a lot to crow about.

Given Obama’s 130 present votes, 6 ‘oops-I-pushed-the-wrong-button’ votes in the state legislature; missing over 40% of his votes in the Senate; reneging on FISA, voting for Bush/Cheney’s energy bill; his penchant for throwing everyone under the bus as soon as the heat is on him, I guess Cohen could not find anything in Obama’s record worth advertising.

One incensed commenter suggested that Cohen:

1. Read one of Barack’s books…
Would that be one of the books where he takes creative license with his own life story?

2. Go to the web site and look at his policy stances.
Does she mean the policies he sort of lifted from Hillary or the ones he has now completely done an about face on?

Even Cohen chimes in on this one:

Obama is not noted for sticking to a position or a person once that position or person becomes a political liability. (Names available upon request.)

He has been for and against gun control, against and for the recent domestic surveillance legislation and, in almost a single day, for a united Jerusalem under Israeli control and then, when apprised of U.S. policy and Palestinian chagrin, against it. He is an accomplished pol — a statement of both admiration and a bit of regret.

3. Interview Obama.
But Barack is too busy to answer real questions from the press corps. Isn’t that their main complaint about him now? Read his interviews. When you are done, I defy you to figure out where he really stands on anything.

His fans also wrote that: Judgment trumps experience. Obama has no scandals. Obama is an honest man.

Oh, where do I begin? The judgment that put him in a racist church for twenty years, canoodling with Wright, Pfleger, Auchi, Ayers, and buying a home with the aid of the convicted criminal Rezko? Or running to the right as fast as feet will carry him? How about now vetting Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine for VP – who has a faith-based opposition to abortion? Ladies? Ladies? Are you sure Barack’s got your back?

No scandals? Let’s just say a few too many people are riding shotgun for him to make me comfortable with that statement. The man won’t even show his birth certificate, his college records, state senate records and more…

An honest man? Painting everyone who does not vote for him as racist and outright lying on national television about his relationships and knowledge of certain associates is not what I would call pure as the driven snow.

Here was one of the few reasoned responses to Cohen’s article:

For god’s sake stop freaking out any time someone makes a legitimate point that you perceive as anything other than a glowing recommendation about your guy. It’s getting old.

Cohen is correct that ‘the next president will have to be something of a political Superman.’ The qualities crucial to wading through these dangerous waters are experience, character and moral courage. So far, Obama is batting zero.

We also require humility rather than hubris. No President is anointed by anyone. No President is going to get everything right. But someone who is addicted to, and insists upon total adulation from, his supporters, and who has had the DNC all but hand the nomination to him tells me he has no clue how deep in over his head he is.

Obama is supposed to be the ‘new politics,’ so unlike the Chicago political machine from whence he matriculated. Yet, even his mentor Rev. Wright admits that “he says what he has to say as a politician.” Obama’s behavior to this point shows that he is the old politics, head to toe.

How ironic is this July 3, 2008 Obama statement:

“Let me be as clear as I can be. I intend to end this war. My first day in office I will bring the joint chiefs of staff in and I will give them a new mission and that is to end this war.”

Well, after his overseas trip, I think that’s, uuhh, changed. Uh oh.

So if he is not the change we have been waiting for, if his judgment is suspect, if his resolve and moral courage are not in evidence, all he has left is character. And how can his supporters still be so hooked when his character is to abandon when the going gets tough? Why is he their chosen one, again?

Ironically, Jim Kramer of CNBC’s Mad Money , and many others have made it clear to the American people that the best choice on the economy is Hillary. 34 flag officers also endorsed her. Somebody surely trusts this lady’s judgment.

Oops, sorry. We don’t have her to choose from right now.

I recently heard the phrase, ‘faith is restful, hope is stressful.’ I have complete faith in Hillary Clinton because I see evidence of her work ethic. But hoping he ‘won’t be too bad’ is not enough reason for me to go with Obama the unknown.

Speaking of the messiah, Michelle is the one who said at one of her rallies that she’s married to the only person in this race who can “heal our souls” something that I was always taught only the Messiah can do.

Now, I don’t know about you, but hearing that come from the wife of a politician is scary as hell! But perhaps I just need more info to alleviate me of my concerns.

Tell me, what is Obama’s stance on soul healing? Is this supposed to be part of his “in name only” universal health care package? Will we therefor have the option of opting out of said soul healing services? Will this be covered by my health insurance, or does soul healing come under some other plan? What about those who don’t have insurance?

And how is he planning to implement such an audacious initiative? Get to each of the 300+ million of us individually (which wouldn’t exactly leave time for anything else, like running the country) or will it be a sort of all at once type of affair? And how are we supposed to know when our souls have in fact been healed? Can I expect to undergo some type of metaphysical change? Or ummmm I dunno maybe my clothes start to feel a bit tighter? Of course that could just be too many donuts.
Or perhaps he’ll just send out mailers informing us he has in fact healed our souls? Which I’m assuming would be under tax payers expense. But then what’s a few extra million in the budget for something as monumental as persons soul being healed!

Really, someone needs to press him on this. There are sooooo many questions I have about it. And I would like some answers.

It COULD make the difference in how many more people come out to vote for him….or not.

  • CountryFirst

Kudos to Ani – what a great response to this surprising article from the Washington Post. I hope Richard Cohen reads it.

  • yttik

Ewwww, he wants our souls? Perhaps I was too quick to dismiss all those antichrist allegations, LOL.

My soul is not available for “healing,” michelle. My vote is not for sale either.

Obama’s books can be found in the “Fiction” section of the book store.

  • candymarl

His books? What does that have to do with the current situation here in America? Nothing.

What in his books qualifies him to be CiC? Nothing.

What in his books makes him knowledgeable about international and world affairs? Nothing.

Apparently his books couldn’t move Obama to actually call a committee meeting.

There are many authors of books. Does the fact that they wrote a book(s) qualify them for POTUS? I don’t think so.

If authorship of books makes you qualified for POTUS I’d go for someone like Bill Moyers, James Wolcott, or Gore Vidal.

Why do people say he gives a good speech?
There are more uhhs and ahmmms then a four year old.
We had a class in junior high school called forum that taught us to speak better than that.
What position that he has taken has he ever stuck with?
When has he ever put the good of the country first?
He and his wife show no pride or love for America.
All you ever hear from both of them is what can we do for them not what can they do for the country.
When he goes on his taxpayer paid vacation overseas, he can’t even give America credit for all the good things we have done for the world.
He is a racist anti-american know nothing and is not good for the country.

You might want to watch that. I can hear the cries of racism already.

“Oh, so you think a black man is only fit to shine your shoes”.

The evil, racist, no good American taxpaying public should pay for his trips. You owe him after all.

Good point. He’s not the descendant of slaves but of slave owners. A little fact the MSM likes to overlook while they scream racism on his behalf.

  • Paul3triple

To be honest, they can compare him to JFK all they want. JFK did not do much good as prez. The Bay of Pigs is something i could see Barry doing.
Civil Rights JFK never lifted a finger until riots started happening and he had to.
JFK is a martyr. as for FDR, nobama is not close.
Obama has no character at all and IS a packaged product. notice the polls, he has a cieling right around 47% i garuantee the undecided’s are mostly for McCain.
I always thought i was a Democrat all my life. These poeple now playing the part of my old party are no dems. They sold the party to the highest bidder.
I switched and became a republican after June.
I want nothing to do with them.

Even Pat Buchanan gave Hillary props about how much her public speaking and speeches improved over the months.

You would think with all the support….Obama could have this public speaking thing down by now.

It is not like the media are on him for his gaffes….so where is the pressure?

It seems like every time he opens his mouth he is fighting Chicago-cocktail-party-talking-points from spilling out.

Realizing they have left him open to attacks based on facts or flip-flops. He still can’t control them or access the real data that Hillary can effortlessly.

  • Northwest rain

Obama has so effectively used the race card their either we self censor our remarks or someone else makes a remark.

Obama is not and has never been a great orator — I think that perhaps writers say this because they can’t think of any other positive thing Obama has done . . . and well he did make that speech (written for him) at the 04 Dem convention.

If Obama were really a great messiah — then he wouldn’t need hordes of paid bloggers to swarm any thread that happens to mention that perhaps their messiah is slightly human and not perfect.

Obama has never “given a hell of a speech” — Ray-Gun perhaps gave a couple memorable ones — but Ray-Gun was an actor.

Now the tv series “Designing Women” WOW those broads could give fantastic on point speeches. It would be hysterical to hear Obama parroting one of the “Designing women” rants.

Actually i read his book. It was one big whine fest about how he felt so down about white people discriminating against him. He actually says some really racial stuff in his books. Especially the first book. He actually has two books, but its hard to find a copy of the first one now. He wrote that one to appeal to the black community on the south side.

  • Peggy Sue

When will the Obama folks and Michelle and the army of Obamatrons get it? We don’t need nor do we want our souls healed. We don’t want a faux Messiah. We want and need a leader, not a pretender.

Compare himself to JFK and FDR? Cut me a break. Kennedy had a war record and a near death encounter. FDR struggled with the after effects of polio, and then made life and death decisions during a world war.

Please tell me what Obama has suffered or pushed against that has tempered him for the POTUS? And please, don’t use the race card. Barack Obama has had every priviledge, the best education, and then thumps his chest how he walked away from corporate offers to work “for the people.” And exactly what did he accomplish?

Funneled money to Tony Rezko and then turned a blind eye to the suffering in his own Congressional district. Sat in in racist church because it furthered his political career then lied about it, only to give a speech in Philadelphia to make it all go away. Played the system for everything it’s worth, throwing any and all opposition to the wolves and stating that dubious financial/real estate agreements were “boneheaded.” Double tracked on gun control, FISA and public financing without batting an eye. Condoned [and/or pretended he didn't know about] rampant sexism during the primary. Fictionalized his own autobiography [if James Frey can do it why can't The One?]. Threw his friends, family and enemies alike under the bus. Learned to work a teleprompter like a carney show huckster but still mumbles and stumbles when speaking without a script.

    And the beat goes on.

And we don’t know who Barack Obama is? Opportunist comes to mind. But fraud has a better ring. To their shame, the Democratic Party has sanctioned this sad piece of theater.

    They will rue the day.

Exactly, he needs to be held acountable for all the promises he made during the primaries. And forced to explain why he flip flopped. This is one of the most corrupt campaign season I have ever seen. I have been a voting democrat for 40 years. I say no deal. I have drawn a line in the sand and we are fighting for what is righteous. They have underestimated the intelligence of the working class. They have abandoned the morals and values of the true Democratic Party and they done it all for money and greed. I will not allow Karl Rove and Donna Brazilenut to choose my candidate. Nancy Pelosi has been such a heartbreaking disappointment for me but she must go. More later.

You gotta hand it to them, a one statement response like that may not be effective, but it’s handy!

    “I’m a racist,
    he’s a racist,
    she’s a racist,
    we’re all racists,
wouldn’t you like to be a racist too?!”

  • Puma-SF

  • candymarl

Look at the 2008 State of the Union address. Nancy Pelosi spent so much time jumping to her feet and applauding Bush that even Dick Cheney looked at her as she’d lost her mind.

Obama is very smooth. As long as he panders to the Dem leadership’s egos and convinces them that he’ll get everyone on board they’ll never remove their support.

Obama’s ego, as evidenced by his hubris thus far, will not allow him to ask for non-supporters votes. He thinks he and his supporters can intimidate or browbeat folk into supporting him.

    But this ain’t Chicago.

PS. Larry has to produce the whitey tape as soon as Obama produces the following:

His original birth certificate with signature and raised seal in front of reporters (McCain did).

When Obama produces his full State Senate records.

When Obama releases his full medical records. Not just a letter from his doctor (McCain did).

When Obama releases the whitey tape (obviously they’ve seen it). Why the ” why’d he” explanation? How can you explain something that you claim never happened? If it didn’t exist the campaign would have said so by now. Instead they’ve said the following:

    You misheard what Michelle said.

It’s not something someone of her generation would say.

If the whitey tape thing is the best you’ve got, something even Obama and his campaign never said didn’t exist, you’ve got a problem.

There are two far more important facts:

Well, it would be very hard. Julia (played by the wonderful Dixie Carter) had sooo much passion in her speeches, regardless of the topic.
But, for a truly wonderful example, check out the episode, “The Candidate”. In it, Julia runs for a local political office against an African-American conservative, Wilson Brickett (played by Jason Bernard).
The capper of her debate with Brickett came after a call-in viewer made a comment that Julia said was “ignorant” and Brickett said “See there, she called you ignorant” which led to

I do not think everyone in America is ignorant! Far from it! But we are today, probably, the most uneducated, under read, and illiterate nation in the western hemisphere. Which makes it all the more puzzling to me why the biggest question on your small mind is whether or not little Johnny is gonna recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning! I’ll tell you something else, Mr. Brickett. I have had it up to here with you and your phony issues and your Yankee Doodle yakking! If you like reciting the Pledge of Allegiance everyday then I think you should do it! In the car! In the shower! Wherever the mood strikes you! But don’t try to tell me when or where I have to say or do or salute anything, because I am an American too, and that is what being an American is all about! And another thing, I am sick and tired of being made to feel that if I am not a member of a little family with 2.4 children who goes just to Jerry Falwell’s church and puts their hands over their hearts every morning that I am unreligious, unpatriotic, and un-American! Because I’ve got news for you, Mr. Brickett. All liberals are not kooks, anymore than all conservatives are fascists! And the last time I checked, God was neither a Democratic nor a Republican! And just for your information, yes I am a liberal, but I am also a Christian. And I get down on my knees and pray everyday – on my own turf – on my own time. One of the things that I pray for, Mr. Brickett is that people with power will get good sense, and that people with good sense will get power… and that the rest of us will be blessed with the patience and the strength to survive the people like you in the meantime!
That single speech was THE highlight of the episode, and ranks right up there with her blow-up in the episode “Killing All the Right People” and Charlene’s confrontation with her minister in the episode “How Great Thou Art”.

I’ve seen that also. They use them as references without researching anything else. They claim, because of the doubtful results of CNN’s exit polls, they are wealthier, better educated and more intelligent than anyone else. Wasn’t there a study done a few years ago where half of the subjects were told they were superior and the other half told they were inferior? If I remember correctly, the study had to be cancelled because the first group became too aggressive and abusive?

  • elise

Actually, Helen, he does give a good speech unless you are looking for substance. I was impressed the first time I heard him speak and that was the 2004 Convention. If you notice, he turns his head at specified intervals and always finishes with his voice rising to a crescendo. I believe I read the teleprompter tells him when to turn his head. It is when he speaks off the cuff or responds to questions, his speech is punctuated with the uhhs and ummms. My father was a minister and he read a book years ago about memory triggers to avoid losing his place. It’s a simple idea. You take a starting point with one word and another for each change in important points and just memorize the words. It’s almost a form of hypnosis. I watched Obama in the debates when he started stuttering and then, suddenly, he would pull himself together and answer the question. Many times the answers are vague and generalized. I really wish we could get an academic record for him because I don’t believe he is overly intelligent. He may even have AADD.

Sorry, elise. He does not give a good speech, period. Maybe because your father was a minister you like his stylized delivery, but in fact that should allow you to better realize that Obama’s mannerisms, when delivering his practiced slogans, are hokey and overplayed. I want to vomit every time he turns on the fake preacher voice. But maybe that’s because I have zero tolerance for poorly mimicked Southern accents.

I think what Elise refers to is the 2004 speech at the convention–he wasn’t southern and hokey at that particular venue. In fact, he was more “young, ethnic Harvard” than anything else. He pulls that “voice” out from time to time, when the crowd has “other than acolytes” in it.

I fail to understand how an upbringing in Hawaii with a short interlude in Indonesia somehow infused this young man with an accent that sounds, to my civil rights era ears, like he is MOCKING the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. It’s not an homage, it’s a pisspoor, EMBARRASSING imitation…and an insult to those of us who took King’s mission and message seriously, because we LIVED it.

It’s also an insult to his audience. It’s all very well and good to jazz up a sentence or two with a little bit of soulful expression, but when one tries to carry off an ENTIRE SPEECH in a bullshit accent, why, it’s as absurd as if he got up there and did the whole thing imitating, say, Peter Sellers doing Inspector Clouseau, or Mike Myers doing his Doctor Evil character.

Leave the impressions to the impressionists, Barack. Otherwise, ya come across sounding like…a PHONY.

Well, there’s a bit of truth in advertising, I guess…

JULY 25–Memo to Barack Obama supporters everywhere: If you plan on soliciting some sexual favors from a prostitute, perhaps you should leave your t-shirt promoting the Democrat’s presidential campaign at home. For the second time in recent weeks, a Chicago man has been nabbed on a misdemeanor rap for soliciting sex from an undercover officer while promoting the hometown pol’s White House bid. Sherman Cleveland, 40, was arrested last week and had his car impounded after he allegedly offered a female police officer money if she’d perform a sex act upon him, according to Officer Laura Kubiak, a Chicago Police Department spokesperson. As seen in the mug shot below, Cleveland was wearing a shirt with the words “Obama For Change” and a caricature of the presumptive Democratic nominee. Previously, a Chicago man with a “Barack” t-shirt was arrested on a similar solicitation charge.

The picture of the idiot is hysterical. What a putz. Bet he offered her money, and at the very same time, demanded “change!”

Obama: I’m a Symbol of ‘America’s Best Traditions’

Jonathan Weisman is reporting on his “The Trail” blog that presumptuous Democratic nominee Barack Obama told House Democrats that he believes himself to be the symbol of all that is good in America. It appears that he is beginning to believe the over-the-top hype that he really is the Obamessiah for America. So, will this little Washington Post blog post make waves in the media? Will Barack’s increasingly out-of-control ego become the talk of the day?

Weisman reports that candidate Obama met in a closed door meeting with House Democrats and he let loose with a “real zinger,” as Weisman put it. He told the rapt audience of House members that his candidacy was the moment “the world is waiting for” — as if the whole world clamored for his presence?

Dana Milbank wrote a column about Obama today which deals with Obama’s hubris:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/29/AR2008072902068.html?nav=rss_opinion/columns

Be sure to read the comments. Many Obama supporters are claiming that saying Obama is overconfident is – TA! DA! – RACIST because it is the same as saying he is uppity.

I am sick of people saying that we should not be concerned about this because Kennedy was inexperienced (and certainly overconfident) as if that had not been a serious problem. PLEASE read this article. It is from the Weekly Standard, but it uses credible sources and is consistent with what I have read many places:

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/015/149gqohu.asp?pg=1

I admire a lot of what Kennedy did, particularly how he learned from his mistakes, but we do ourselves no favor when we turn our leaders into gods. The truth is that Kennedy’s inexperience and overconfidence was a major factor in leading to the world to the brink of all-out nuclear war, and was a factor in the arms race, the Berlin Wall and our getting into Vietnam. The fact that he handled the crisis well does not make up for us coming so close to Armageddon.(Contrary to what we were told at the time, Krushchev was not crazy, as his backing down from the brink even though he knew it would likely end his career clearly proved.)

I am also sick and tired of people who worship Kennedy bashing Bill Clinton, particularly because of his infidelities (like all those Irish Catholic buffoons at MSNBC/NBC. I am one, too, so chill out). Clinton was an incredible president yet we cannot build on his legacy because Democrats have allowed it to be trashed. If Dem leaders had stood up for his record Hillary would be our nominee and a shoe-in and our country would have the best possible team in place to begin solving our huge problems. Unfortunately even liberals are not fully rooted in the reality-based community.

  • apishapa

More hype. I never even liked his speeches–they are full of platitudes and his style mimics other great speakers–MLK, JFK etc. but is not his own. It sounds hollow and predictable. And what does the rest of the “package” offer? Poor experience, a bad debater?, swaggering and sauntering? I just don’t get it.

  • hootnannie

Since BO is always trying to have it both ways, it wouldn’t be surprising if he chose a right-to-lifer as veep. He knows that without the Evangelical vote to add to the black votes, he won’t take a single Southern state. And he can’t win with just DC and a handful of Northeastern states (though I don’t think he can be sure of even that!) Most Evangelicals, however, would be as likely to vote for him as they would the self-avowed Antichrist. (And this guy aint about to “fool the very elect”!)
As for Michelle and soul-healing: No doubt she means that by voting for hubby, one can wash away the sin of racism. Some bleeding hearts have already bought into this. So, if someone is a racist, he’ll wake up Nov. 5 feeling as as clean as the driven snow. (Or is THAT racist?)

Bernie, that WAPO article by Millbank is revolting. I cannot believe this is happening in our own country–he is parading around like a Prince, being carried from event to event in a gilded carriage. And WHY is he so overconfident about winning. They mention his “large lead in the polls.” What lead would that be?? 4-5 points is hardly a “large lead” at this stage, and the USAToday/Gallup poll had McCain up by 4 on Monday. It would be such beautiful justice if he gets creamed and is left in shock after already having the drapes fitted for the Oval Office. I am so disgusted by him each day.

I think this stuff about Obama hubris is getting traction. Yesterday they had Richard Cohen on Morning Joe and the panel talked about his article and length and apparently quoted from it all morning. Joe Scarborough also was suddenly struck by the notion that we were considering electing a man who hadn’t even had one term in the Senate as POTUS and the whole panel agreed, like none of them had even thought about this before. Comical..

Yup, this mornin gon Morning Joe the whole discussion was about BO’s overweening arrogance and hubris. Naturally, Mika B (why doesn’t she just slap an Obama bumper sticker across her forehead already??) had to step in and say that the remark was probably taken out of context and explain what Obama really meant (now he’s got pressies doing the WORM for him!), but the other commenters quickly shushed her. Her bias is getting more obvious every day: at one point someobdy mentioned the New Yorker cover, and she snapped “Well I didn’t like it!” Sheesh.

Actually, connecting Obama to shoe-shining would be an insult to Albert Lexie.

He has raised thousands of dollars by donating his tips to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. for over twenty years.

He has used polish and persistence to raise over $110,000 for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He’s been shining shoes at Children’s since 1982 and accepting tips from customers on behalf of “his kids,” as he calls the patients. Charging $3 per shine, he donates all tips to Children’s Free Care Fund, which ensures all children receive medical care, regardless of a family’s ability to pay.

Albert won the 19th annual National Caring Award from the Hall of Fame for Caring Americans in 2006.

Not 90% of blacks like the media is trying to portray. Right off the bat, close to half the people don’t vote at all just like other racial groups in this country. They’re fed up, disgusted, or indifferant. We’re now down to approx half the black population that actually votes. Of those, 22% are Republicans. Some are Pumas. Some are Hillary supporters. Some are McKinney/Clemente supporters. When all is said and done Obama probably has the support of 30% of the black community.

  • MyBrainHurts

Glad this site if finally coming right out and brandishing its right wing credentials.

If there are still any actual Hillary supporters here, hopefully you can take a minute and think about this: If this election is close, and Hillary voters swing it for McCain, her reputation will never, ever recover. Like Ralph Nader, she’ll be blamed, rightly or wrongly, for the continuation of the War and the lack of national healthcare, as well as continued rightwing drift of the Supreme Court and pointless drilling that will follow a McCain win. She knows how much we need a Democrat in office, and unless you’re not a liberal, I don’t see how you can possibly not see that as well. If McCain wins, Hillary’s political career will be over, and unless you’re a Republican like Larry, I don’t see why you can’t simply vote for the candidate you agree with, even if you dislike him personally. Every Obama supporter I know would’ve done it for her.

The irony, the irony – Dana Millbank has been one of those Obama media cheerleaders!! So, what – they gave him free pass after free pass, and when he dismisses them, only THEN will they do their jobs?? Holy cow.

And Kennedy was NOT inexperienced, certainly not compared to Obama!!! He served his country BRAVELY, saving the lives of the sailors on his PT boat, even before he got into government. The two are absolutely NOT on the same level, and I am so tired of people pretending that Obama, with his trumped up resume, is anywhere close to Kennedy OR MLK. She’s a completely rude boob. Aha-ing and yeah -ing – and harumphing through what everyone says to brak their rhythm.

She never has anything of value to offer. Morning Joe is at least fair a lot more of the time than the rest of the thugs at MSNBC — why they don’t tell her to take a hike, I’ll never know.

Besides, split government is a good way to maintain some checks and balances. McCain has shown that he can work with Democrats anyways, so your argument is specious.

So “paid blogger boyz” and FISA trump McCain’s promises of more war, less healthcare and pointless drilling?

Only a republican would actually buy into the whole flip-flop angle. The pulled it on Kerry, but you probably voted for Bush. McCain on the other hand has shown as much flexibility as Obama, if not more. The fact is, Bush has barely ever flip-flopped on anything because he’s stubborn. If you agreed with Hillary on ANY IMPORTANT ISSUE, not just the politics but the real issues facing Americans, then you agree with Obama. If you’re a Republican, then you always disagreed with Hillary, and you’re simply making a transparent ploy for her supporters.

I love the logic of we can’t vote for someone because of FISA, so we’ll vote for McCain. It’s laughable. Why don’t you just admit you simply dislike Obama, and that your personal animosity trumps every issue facing this country?

  • Deke

I think you are getting a bit mixed up giving a good speech and delivering a speech well are too different things. Obama delivers a speech well but giving a good speech implies some ownership of the speech and the process of crafting the speech. Given today’s politics both the broad cast of the tone of the speech as well as the actual writing of speech are removed from the candidate. What we are left with is a resume of accomplishments and policy position it is here were Obama falls down big time. There is were he demonstrates he is truly an empty suit.

Only by losers like you, Dean, Piglosi, and Donkey Brazier.

And all of you will crawl back into your holes while Hillary contiues to do right for the US.

In the spirit of George Carlin… people should say what they please…. and bty that was very funny.

People called Bush a cowboy, a chimp…. Hillary, anything offensive to a woman…
Obama’s race and relations,to me,are just fair game.

But again Obama already painted anyone in KY a racist… guess he didn’t realize it was a Democratic Primary… most Democrats are not racist and really take offense if accused. He should have waited until the General election for that race card!

  • NObama in August

No actually I predict just the opposite will happen. Hillary’s reputation will probably be enhanced, like it has the past 6 months.

  • morgan

My mom thinks so… really, and she is rarely wrong. I personally don’t believe that kind of stuff but if I did… read revelations… I might believe it if I was so inclined.

  • MyBrainHurts

You guys only see the shades. He has surely changed his emphasis, as every candidate has always done after the primaries. The fact is his stance on the really important issues (heath care, iraq, the economy, tax breaks for the rich, etc) have not changed, despite what the right wing says.

When you irrationally hate someone, it colors the way you see every action they take. For the right wing in the 90′s, everything the Clinton’s did was a calculated lie. Now some Hillary fans have turned around and are doing the same thing to Obama. Luckily, he’ll follow in Bill’s steps, ignore the people filled with hate, and win the election, because on every issue, Barack, Hillary and the Democrats are right. I don’t believe most of you are actually Hillary fans, because you could never bring yourself to vote against everything she’s worked for out of spite or hate. If you’re willing to put our soldiers at the whims of McCain and his temper, you couldn’t have possibly witnessed what blind hate did to the Clintons in the 90′s.

Yes, there have been a few of them and they always turn out the same.

There was the Stanford Prison Exp with college students pretending to be jailers. That one had to be cancelled in six days.

There was one called the Milgram Experiment where if an authority figure…read dude in white coat. Tells you to inflict pain on an unseen person connected by only a speaker. Even when they can hear the victim beg for it to stop. They will listen the authority figure’s instructions to continue inflicting pain.

    Short clip..

There was the famous blue eye/brown eye classroom test. Which mirrors racism and shows how quickly that dissolves into abuse, if the kids were told they were better than the others.

There are a couple of other examples of these types of studies….maybe someone else remembers those ones.

He HAS changed his stance on the important issues. FISA is important, Public financing is important. NAFTA is important. Women’s rights are VERY important. HE HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED HIS STANCE ON IRAQ. Please go back and do your homework.

Don’t just read the talking points his campaign emails you.

    Look over there….it’s a Republican!!!

    Run Mybrainhurts….run!!!

    LOL

Funny, my soul will be healed when that butthead from Illinois is defeated, and booted out of the Senate.

He sure is a hero. Here is a link to a CBS report on him, from Jan 14, 2005. He truly is an inspiration. Unlike Obama.

So sad, you’re probably right. Yet the shoe repairmen I know, real artists who deserve recognition, are all hispanic, mostly 1st gen. American. At the airport, last time I looked, a white woman had the shoeshine concession. Maybe the stereotypes should be challenged?

  • Kevin

    bingo!

  • Kevin

In fact the only consistent stance BO has taken is his revealing, publicly, yesterday that reparations are on the table. But we knew that would come out eventually.

The reasons i won’t vote for him are:
    Character
    Judgement
    Experience
    Credibility
    Reparations
    Ayers
    Rezko
    Wright
    Pfleger
    Trinity
    The finger
    The dust off
    The shoe wipe

In fact, I don’t hate him. I don’t know him. He’s probably a nice enough guy in person.

I met John Kerry back in the 80s. He came into a marine store I worked at, I spent about 45 minutes with him. Nice enough guy, kind of stiff at first, but decent enough. I voted for him, I even bought a “Veterans for Kerry” yard sign. What I don’t like about his positions are: his opposition to the Cape Wind project. His arrogant presumption that his superdelegate status means he knows better than his constituency, which means his support of Obama trumps the fact that MA dems voted otherwise. That is what I don’t like about his positions. I don’t hate him, but I’m not going to vote for him either.

At this point, I feel fairly certain that Obama would not even shine his own shoes — which, prior to this nomination process, would most likely have been the ONLY shoes he’d ever consider shining. NOW he’s got hired help to do such menial tasks for him.

Ah, the luxury of thinking you’re a king, living like one, and having so many followers bow down and treat you as such. It’s just constant reinforcement.

My goodness, when will this bubble burst?

  • Raven

It is Sen. Obama’s arrogance, hubris and his cam-
paign’s attitude that those undecided voters are
just going to “fall in line” for him. That we have
NO alternative! Sen.Clinton’s voter’s some have
given their support, others are still waiting to
see HOW she is treated at the convention; how our
democratic process is observed and carried forward.
    NOT DIFFERENTLY this year!
Yes, many people want change but, “NOT some mockery
of our democractic process”, offered under the
guise of a campaign letter referring to an “open
    convention”.
    Its so Orwellian…doublespeak!
After Bush, is this the “new politics” we’ve been
    waiting for?
No, Sen. Clinton will NOT be to blame for an
Obama loss. This is his nomination to loose. The
interest groups have come together to put OB in
    the “presumptive state”.
It is up TO HIM to close the deal!
An OPEN CONVENTION is part of that deal!

  • Cahil

    Very nice article, Ani.

Isn’t Cohen pretty typical of MSM hacks though? They all praise Obi but none can tell you what he’s about other than to say he’s a healer.

Strange, though, the amount of non-healing that is found in his wake. I’m still waiting to see him ride in on his unity pony and actually unite someone or something.

I’m afraid that when someone suggested he should unite something, he was with Ayers and just assumed they said he should ignite something.
