[UPDATE: Time Extended] URGENT: Complete This Survey by 2 p.m. ET

UPDATE: Do not be concerned if you missed the deadline. Keep submitting surveys because the number totals will continue to be updated. We got a huge response this morning but every single additional submission helps! And look for more posts, probably tomorrow, with more ACTIONS we can take.
………………………………………………

This is an urgent action alert. Please take action before noon 2 p.m. EST by clicking on this link.

The Drafting Committee of the Democratic National Convention is meeting this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Cleveland. This committee will draft the platform that the Platform Committee will debate and ratify at a meeting the following weekend.

Many people think the party platform is a document with no force, but it is actually binding on the party and the next DNC chair for four years. As Hillary supporters who believe the party needs to be reformed, it is absolutely critical that we use whatever opportunity we have to affect the platform.

The Obama Campaign invited voters to tell the Democratic Party what the Platform should be.

I Own My Vote responded by putting forward 10 possible platform planks that address the concerns of Hillary Clinton’s supporters and asking people who signed the I Own My Vote Pledge to vote on whether they agree or disagree with each plank. Each plank that receives a majority of the votes will be submitted to the DNC as part of the I Own My Vote Platform Suggestions.

It is imperative that we deliver the results to the Drafting Committee on Thursday afternoon before the committee meets. Hillary’s platform committee members are waiting for this platform.

It is our goal that over 1000 people will participate in our virtual platform meeting so we can show a real commitment to the positions we articulate. So please, sign the I Own My Vote pledge and visit the virtual platform committee now.

HERE ARE THE PLATFORM MEASURES YOU WILL BE ENDORSING. VOTE now, and then ponder the possibilities! We could actually change how the Democratic party operates its primaries!

Equal Rights Amendment

The Democratic Party apologizes to all women for removing the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment from John Kerry’s 2004 Democratic National Convention Platform.

The Equal Rights Amendment must be passed during the next congressional session.

VOTE.

Universal Healthcare

The Democratic Party will use all available means to create a system of universal healthcare under which 100% of the population will be covered by comprehensive health insurance.

The Democratic Party and its leaders will oppose any efforts to redefine the term “universal healthcare” to mean any policy that insures less than 100% of the population.

We believe that Senator Hillary Clinton’s health care plan is the most effective way to create a system of universal healthcare for all Americans.

The United States must mandate that all citizens have health insurance.

Vote

One Person One Vote

In our democratic system, every adult person is entitled to one vote.

The 2008 primaries illustrated that a caucus vote is worth more than a primary vote because each delegate elected by caucus represents less voters than each delegate elected by primary.

Caucuses allow party officials to exert undue influence and coercion over voters.

Caucuses are immune from federal oversight, while primaries are subject to federal election law.

Therefore, the Democratic Party will forbid caucuses in all future nominating processes and will require all states to conduct primaries to select their delegates to future national conventions.

VOTE.

Fair Reflection

The Democratic Party and Senator Obama apologize to the voters of Michigan for supporting a delegate selection plan that allotted pledged delegates to the Democratic National Convention through a method that substituted the judgment of members of the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee for the judgment of Michigan’s voters.
VOTE.

No Geographic Preference

No state is more important than any other state. No voter is more important than any other voter.

The Democratic Party has engaged in a practice that has given preference to some states over others.

In the future the Democratic National Committee will not give preference to any state in scheduling the primary elections.

So long as all states hold their primaries within a prescribed window of time, the Democratic Party will not penalize any state for scheduling its primary before or after any other, even if as a result all states schedule their primaries for the same day.

VOTE.

Discrimination

The Democratic Party will not tolerate discrimination based on race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or nation of origin.

The Democratic Party leadership, including the DNC executive committee, presidential and vice-presidential nominees, House and Senate leadership, and members of all committees within the Democratic National Committee, will from this point forward publicly defend candidates and officeholders who are attacked on any of these bases in the media.

VOTE.

Prevention of Unjust and Foolish Wars

The Democratic Party opposes all unjust and foolish wars.

The key to preventing unjust and foolish wars is an informed electorate with a vested interest in the nation’s military policies who will hold Congress accountable.

Relying on a volunteer military constituted of paid soldiers and contractors insulates the vast majority of Americans from the dangers and consequences of our nation’s military actions.

The Democratic Party opposes any disproportionate impact such military composition has on individuals, families, and communities based on race, economic status, economic opportunity, or educational level.

Barack Obama has inspired young people everywhere to support him. The Democratic Party believes that these young people are the key to stopping unjust and foolish wars.

Therefore, the Democratic Party supports the reinstatement of the draft as proposed by Congressman Charlie Rangel of New York.

VOTE.

A Fair, Open, and Legitimate Convention

It is in the best interests of Party unity that there be no question about the legitimacy of the electoral process.

The election of the Democratic nominees for the offices of president and vice president shall take place at the Democratic National Convention.

Party leaders shall not do anything to discourage or suppress the delegate vote at the Democratic National Convention.

In the event that any candidate receives more than 25% of the popular vote for president, his or her name shall be automatically entered into nomination for the office of president of the united states and the secretary of the convention shall take a roll call vote of all the delegates. In this eventuality, the party shall not nominate any candidate for president by aclimation.

VOTE.

LGBT Rights

All members of the Democratic Party, led by the nominee for President, will work together to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and to provide equal federal benefits to all married couples, with marriage defined by the state or country where the marriage was solemnized.

The Democratic Party will also use all means to ensure that the same benefits that exist for married couples exist for all civil unions.

Further, the Democratic Party and its elected officials will not fund or promote any educational material or organization that spreads a message of hate or discrimination against LGBT people.

VOTE.

Defense of Labor

The Justice Department has oversight of some labor unions such as the Teamsters because of a history of union leadership misusing union dues and pension funds.

The Democratic Party supports the working class and unionized labor.

Therefore, the Democratic Party supports continued Justice Department oversight of those labor unions to which such oversight currently applies.

OBAMA BRINGS RACE TO THE TABLE AGAIN!
Well guess what Obama and his cult following…..
You cannot keep resorting to race as your defense for your shortcomings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama you have not only divided the Democratic Party you have created two Americas. Are we going back in time to represent The North and The South? What will happen this time Obama?

    Have you taken the survey?

Have you asked all of your e-mail friends to also complete the survey?

This is CRITICAL. It is our real chance to make a REAL difference.

    Delegate’s Showdown In Denver

In one of his blogs this week, Jack Cafferty of CNN asked the ominous question, “What happened to the Clintons?” Well, I for one can’t wait for the fireworks to start at the Democratic National Convention. For those of you who think Hillary and Bill Clinton are going to peacefully surrender to Obama, I’ve got some Eskimos who are looking to buy some ice.
    http://countusout.wordpress.com/

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Have you completed the survey, and have you asked all of your friends to complete the survey?

  • destardi

    Absolutely!

    Just finished.

  • Andy

Completed the survey yesterday, it’s a very good one.

I strongly encourage everyone ehre to do so ASAP !!

    Thanks !!

  • Dawnelle

    Yes and Yes!

Pumas have you seen this ARTICLE

Hillary Clinton agrees to Denver keynote – sign she’s not running mate

I think this was brought up yesterday but I missed it. FYI to others who also may have missed this about our GAL HILL! :-)

  • no waffles aka drkate

survey complete and sent to 5 friends yesterday!

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Great, Andy! I knew you’d be on top of things.

  • janicen

Susan, I have not completed the survey, but I took a look at it and it almost seems too good to be true. I am suspicious that it may be a way to gather e-mail addresses and stack the stats of Democratic participation in this year’s farce.

I don’t believe the question about the caucuses. I am under the impression that the individual states can do whatever they want. I know for a fact that Washington State intends to hold a caucus in 2012. When I spoke with the Chairman of the 5th District Democrats, he was very clear about that.

If you really believe this will do any good, I’ll take the survey, but I’ve come to believe that the people in power in the Democrat party don’t give a snot what the rank and file think or want.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

    WTG!

Thanks to all of you, in 2012 I may not have to go through that stupid caucus system again.

Only 14 states have caucuses. Surely the Platform committee will take note of that. Surely the committee will want to create uniformity in how we elect (not select) our nominee.

  • Dawnelle

    Hey Fred,

I’m having some REAL time gut fears that this will get ugly with black & punk college kids 4 Obama in FIGHT MODE against all these mostly elderly women!!!!

How UNEVEN a fight is that????

I just don’t think some of those crack heads for Bambi will keep it FAIR. I fear for knives and fists and abusive treatment of these PUMAs over 50.

    Thats all. :-/

  • Mr.Murder

Asking the DoJ to get into Union business is a bit steep IMO. They have votes in unions, that’s sovereign enough for their policies.

  • Shainzona

I just completed it – my husband is doing so in about a half hour.

Susan…anyway to keep us posted as to how the survey is doing with regard to achieving 1,000 votes?

  • bornagaindem

I will leave this comment here because the web site for Iownmyvote always only shows the pledge with no links to this survey or any info on others things they are doing. WHERE IS THE PLANK TO ELIMINATE THE SUPER DELEGATES ALL TOGETHER? The supers didn’t vote like their states or constituents and are just another undemocratic way for the democratic big wigs to control the party. Not even the repugs have them. How is this not on the ten planks???

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

I believe it will do good. ALSO: I know the people behind this, and they are trustworthy. They will NOT exploit the information about your identity.

Larry Johnson also knows the people involved, and backs them.

It cannot hurt to do the survey. It can only help. Please do it.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

You can vote yes or no on that one, and leave a comment. But you can vote affirmatively on the ones with which you agree.

  • http://www.nativeamericansagainstobama.com/ timepassages

Yes here is another time he did it just this morning ..

    http://nativeamericansagainstobama.wordpress.com/

  • DoroB

    I completed it yesterday.

  • Grail Guardian

Excellent news! I can’t stand the thought of her associating herself with Obama any more than necessary.

Susan – what I’m infinitely more interested in is whether or not anyone plans to challenge Obama’s eligibility for POTUS at the convention. I think Judah Benjamin and Texas Darlin have presented enough evidence to raise a serious challenge before the Credentials Committee. Does anyone at PUMA or Just Say No Deal have any plans to do so?

I completed the survey, but if Obama is the nominee it will take waaaaay more then this proposed platform to bring me back into the fold.

  • janicen

    Okay.

  • Grail Guardian

    Excellent question. Serious oversight.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

I actually think that Superdelegates are important. Let’s say we have a candidate who has captured enough primary delegates to win the nomination…. but, later, some disturbing info comes out about him/her before the convention. The Superdelegates can step in and change the outcome.

My state’s Superdelegates include Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell. I trust their judgment as well as their political courage to do the right thing.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

    Thank you, Doro.

  • suthrn

    yep..all done a few min ago….

  • http://tinyurl.com/IOwnMyVote-News I Own My Vote

It’s the 88th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage on that date. I Own My Vote is glad she will have a prominent role on that night and hopes that the convention will treat the anniversary and Hillary’s accomplishments with the respect they deserve.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

I just spoke with one of the authors.

If a plank gets voted down by people like you, it will NOT be presented to the committee this weekend.

How’s that for REAL democracy ?!?!?!?

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

    Definitely.

STAY TUNED FOR A NEW POST later today with more ACTIONS you can take to affect the outcome of the meeting this weekend.

I don’t want to say anything just yet, so the ‘bot lurkers get a jump-start on us.

Thanks and YES Susan – happy to do so. Excellent survey questions

We need to change WHO operates the democratic party. We need to give Howard Dean, Donna Brazile et all their walking papers. This is achieved by handing them Obama’s head on a plate on November 4. And guess what? That is exactly what will happen.

    http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/groundgame/2008/07/is-clinton-still-pressuring-de.html

The prestigious Congressional Quarterly has a blog, and this report is on it:

    http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/groundgame/2008/07/is-clinton-still-pressuring-de.html

Hillary Clinton has been publicly supporting Barack Obama since she excited the race for the Democratic nomination. But the Moderate Voice’s Tony Campbell is hearing rumors that Clinton supporters are still actively pressuring delegates to switch their votes from Obama to Clinton:

I talked to a Clinton delegate here in Maryland and he told me that they have been instructed to vote for Hillary on the first ballot.

The blog writer at CQ thinks this effort will not succeed, but it’s nice to see recognition on a blog that is neutral.

30% of Conservative Democrats Say They’ll Vote for McCain
    Thursday, July 31, 2008

Thirty percent (30%) of conservative Democrats say they’re voting for John McCain. Rasmussen Reports data also shows the Republican hopeful picking up support from 19% of White Democrats and 15% of Democrats over the age of 50.
    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/30_of_conservative_democrats_say_they_ll_vote_for_mccain

  • DoroB

You’re welcome, but it just occurred to me that if the Obots also complete this survey, they can vote it down. Right??

  • CheatedFLVoter

Never under estimate what old broads carry in their purse. Come to think of it, have you picked up a ladies purse lately? They make a good defensive weapon all by themselves. LOL

  • mimi

I completed the survey. But I also agree that Dems don’t care.

But everyone should complete it regardless because there is power in numbers. And if enough people complete it, it will be hard to ignore. Also it is a platform for us to organize if they do ignore it and frankly as each day goes by, I grow more interested in the potential of a viable Third Party.

  • Diana

Signed, although I still think this should be sent to all parties. Not just the nominee’s and the DNC. They all should know how we think and what we believe should be being done by all parties. And I really hate that I had to put other so they can associate me with the Communist Party, the Socialist Party, when I am Not-Declared to any party. :( That may not bother some, but it does me to think I could be associated with those parties.

  • ldyoung

I just finished the survey. Since the DNC has now chosen to block my personal e-mails in which I demanded these same considerations from our Party — completing the survey is the only way my voice will continue to be heard. I guess Howard didn’t appreciate my last e-mail when i told him I gave $200 to Hillary to help pay down her debt — and refused to give the DNC $5 for Obambi’s football stadium speech. Oh, well. I’ll just open up a Yahoo e-mail account and start e-mailing Howard again until the DNC blocks that address. Then I’ll open up another… Well, you get the picture!

  • Sharon

Completed the survey, sent it on to friends.

On a related topic, I was paying my bills this morning and, since I had TWO solicitation letters – one from the DNC, one from the bambi campaign, I was so happy to tape a penny to a piece of paper where I wrote:

Nobama – ever! PUMA! Party Unity My Ass! Then I put it in the mail.

The messiah’s campaign hasn’t called me for a while now – guess they got tired of being screamed at and told what frauds bambi and the DNC are – in words they’re probably not used to hearing from a “sweetie.” Or, maybe they are – now…

  • http://www.nativeamericansagainstobama.com/ timepassages

yes I did and I also passed it around..

    http://nativeamericansagainstobama.wordpress.com/

  • missE

    I filled out the survey.

Yes Uppity, Obama’s lose will get rid of Dean, Brazile
& Co. In New Orleans we call that lagniappe (something extra). Oh happy day!

  • jan

    yes

  • ldyoung

THANK GOD she’s not going to be on the ticket with Obambi. The very thought of it made me ill. I guess that will be the ONLY time I watch the convention. There’s no one else worth hearing.

  • Diana

But doesn’t that go against the one vote thing? What’s to stop the Supers from going against the majority to stand behind a nominee that didn’t have the majority vote in their district as we’ve seen in this race?

  • ldyoung

HA!!! Love the penny idea, Sharon! Now they’ll be able to pay Howard what he’s worth! :-)

  • http://tinyurl.com/IOwnMyVote-News I Own My Vote

That’s why you have to sign the pledge at IOwnMyVote.com. This survey is not open to just anyone. It’s for people who sign a pledge saying they stand with Hillary’s 18 million voters and who declare that they own their vote and that it doesn’t belong to any candidate who doesn’t earn it.

If Obama supporters want to support that proposition, bully for them.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

    Stay tuned!

  • Bye bye Obambi

    I have done both!

  • Diana

I’ve been thinking a lot about this election and wondering why do I even bother to vote anymore? Supers and delegates just stood behind whoever they wanted, never mind how their constituents voted. Giving us ZERO say in the matter. In the election the Electoral will do the same. What right do we even have anymore? If they don’t like the way you voted on a bill they just keep putting it up for re-election, holding special elections till they get the vote they want. It’s like this big facade, we really care how you vote as long as you agree with us…Maybe I’m just depressed today thinking Dean lied to us and that Hillary won’t be on the ballot. That there won’t be a roll call or why would she only be at the convention one night and it’s the second night as a keynote speaker.

  • Sprout

my grandmother carries a big can of sweet potatoes in hers. She says it packs more of a punch!

  • Sprout

Hillary has NOT conceded, only suspended.
So, the vp pick speaks monday and wednesday, Hillary speaks on Thursday, I guess that leaves Tuesday for obambi before he finds out that the supers have changed for Hillary and he is humiliated out of the convention?

  • Lou

    yup

  • DoroB

So what happens if people who didn’t sign the pledge click on the link? Sorry I’m asking so many questions. I don’t remember if I signed the pledge, so I signed it after I completed the survey.

  • Brodie

    Just took it- thanks!

finally, mccain campaign calling Baracktrack on his race card playing:

    http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/07/31/obama-turns-to-race-to-defend-himself-from-mccain-camp-offensive/

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A day after Democratic candidate Barack Obama warned that Republican rival John McCain would tell voters “he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills,” McCain’s campaign on Thursday accused Obama of playing racial politics.

Obama “played the race card, and he played it from the bottom of the deck,” McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said in a statement. He called Obama’s remarks “divisive, negative, shameful and wrong.”

Stumping in Missouri, Obama, the first black candidate with a shot at winning the White House, argued Wednesday that President Bush and McCain will resort to scare tactics to maintain the GOP’s hold on the White House because they have little else to offer voters.

“Nobody thinks that Bush and McCain have a real answer to the challenges we face. So what they’re going to try to do is make you scared of me,” Obama said. “You know, ‘he’s not patriotic enough, he’s got a funny name,’ you know, ‘he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.”‘

I hope they mention it! Women’s history month went by completely unnoticed during the primaries when we had a viable Democratic woman running for president.

Stupid survey questions! Why is ‘I Own My Vote’ even offering the DRAFT as an option???

  • Lou

Have faith. Never give up. Hill said if you get knocked down get right back up.

  • imustprotest

I agree. They haven’t shown any interest in listening to us at all. So much for “unity”. I was also concerned about the survey because it had “Obama is our leader” plastered all over it. The first time I looked at it I clicked it off because of that. Then when I saw how much Susan and Larry wanted us to do it, because I trust them I went ahead (with disclaimers in the comment section about Barry though!)

    BOYCOTT THE SURVEY

One of the questions in the ‘I own my vote’ survey askes if you want the draft reinstated.

If a majority of voters do, but you don’t, then you will have signed your name to calling for a DRAFT.

Why is ‘I OWN MY VOTE’ calling for DRAFT reinstatement as an option for the Dem party platform???????

  • athy

    Thanks for doing this Susan.
I have taken survey and will forward it.
Thanks for helping to empower the voters…

  • imustprotest

I think we should do away with Supers. In the scenario you mentioned if a candidate won the nomination (legitimately) but some info come out after.???…how about we get the MSM the 4th estate to DO THEIR JOBS!!! If a candidate is VETTED then there wouldn’t be a scenario as you describe!

  • Sharon

Oh – I forgot to say that when you send your penny it’s at THEIR expense – postage is free for the sender.

And just to show how hard up they are, they have a line on the top of the return envelope that says:

“Save the DNC (also got one from the DSCC and the DCCC) a stamp – donate online” Of course, it goes to “Barack”

Ha ha ha ha ha! If we all do this, it may not cost them a fortune, but it’s gonna cost ‘em – and irritate the hell outta them!

Obama’s convention crowd: Biggest phone bank ever
By NEDRA PICKLER and RON FOURNIER Associated Press Writers
Article Launched: 07/30/2008 02:09:04 PM PDT
DENVER—Those 75,000 Democrats who will pack a football stadium for Barack Obama’s convention speech won’t be there just to whoop and holler on television. They’ll form the world’s largest phone bank to boost voter registration—fired-up supporters using computer targeting the campaign has spent months putting together.

The move to the Invesco Field at Mile High stadium for the convention’s final night next month—at an additional cost of $5 million—will capture a huge crowd the Obama campaign plans to put to work. They’ll be armed with data gleaned through “microtargeting” unregistered voters the campaign believes are ripe to back Obama if pressed to get on board.

“If we do this right, we’ll be unbeatable,” said Steve Hildebrand, the Obama adviser overseeing the effort.
“He compares Obama’s potential to change the party to President Reagan, who remade the GOP for a generation. “If we do it right, we can be the dominant party for the next decade,” Hildebrand said.”

Were American voters happy with the change President Reagan ushered in?
Short term-yes-for some voters; long term-no-for many voters.
If Sen Obama’s efforts succeed- I am truly frightened for our country. WHO WILL REALLY be the dominant party for the next decade- The Democratic party OR Sen Obama’s hidden puppetmasters who pull all his strings. Sen Obama owes so many people so many political favors that I am truly worried for our country…IF he gets elected…based upon his past actions (his voting record and FISA ruling) it seems reasonable to predict that he –and his puppetmasters- will do everything in their power to wipe out any venues for people to voice disagreement or differences of opinions.

Please-no matter who you choose to support in November- read this article first (see below):
This is one of the most accurate and concise analyses I have come across regarding Sen Obama’s voting (NOT SPEAKING) record. Actions don’t lie.
The ramifications of Sen Obama’s past legislative votes make it VERY CLEAR who Sen Obama supports and protects- and its not the average citizens/voters of our country.

Once again this presumtive piece of garbage thinks he’s important enough to be given a place in history by being placed on our currency. I think you’ll see Carter or Nixon there before this idiot.

There again, with his policies and what they will do to our economy we’ll all be walking around with a fist-full of $1 Million bills (because of inflation) so I guess he’ll reserve that one for himself.

    Headline right now on Yahoo:

McCain campaign accuses Obama of playing race card

About freakin’ time bambi got nailed in public for his insidious, divisive games.

Warning, though. The article doesn’t live up to its headline – it’s very pro-bambi – with lots of WORM…

  • ugo

The problem that the DNC has is their candidate, Sen. Obama.

Those that are on TV, tvTalking heads, or the DNC attack dogs don’t get it. If more than half DNC-members sees all that is wrong about Sen. Obama, how can you now turn around and defend those lies?

Do not just vote for a candidate because he is a “democrat” please for the sake of the country vote for the qualified candidate. Sen. John MacCain is the man this time. Come 2012 we will have a real democrat and the more qualified candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton for president. We all can wait. Do the right thing.

Once the damage is done it will take time and money to be fixed.

    Let put the country first.

  • bemused

Good. That one about the draft doesn’t address the fact that in such an egalitarian environment, women will also have to be drafted. Big can of worms, there. And, there are plenty of people who would cheat or be unacceptable. I’m in favor of everyone serving their country somehow, but I think as it is the draft plank is very poor, and as I recall Rangel brought it up as much for threat value as practical value, so its inception is suspect too.

  • Andy

Because all those kiddos drolling over Obama should stand up when it counts and assume responsibility for their vote. If there was a draft they would pay serious attention to the substance of politics; not the empty rethoric a la GWBush now being offered by Barack Obama. PUT UP or SHUT UP.

You can always vote “I do not agree” on that question but take the survey and answer the other ones truthfully if you are serious about politics.

  • Andy

    Meant “kiddos drooling over Obama”

  • Deelee

It’s a nice thought, but they won’t. They already have that capability, but I don’t know of any one of them switching to Hillary, which is a pitty, because if just one of them had the courage to do it, it might start a trickle that could become a torrent.
Personally, my wife and I are going to vote against any downticket candidate that supports him. If their judgement is so flawed as to promote him, we don’t want them representing us. We are going to let our candidates know our feelings, maybe others will do the same. That’s the only way they (delegates) will get the message.

Barack Obama’s critics laid down the foundations of the strategy months ago: The Republican National Committee started the “Audacity Watch” back in April, and Karl Rove later fueled the attack by describing the first-term Illinois senator as “coolly arrogant.”

It wasn’t until the last week, however, that the narrative of Obama as a president-in-waiting — and perhaps getting impatient in that waiting — began reverberating beyond the inboxes of Washington operatives and journalists.

Perhaps one of the clearest indications emerged Tuesday from the world of late-night comedy, when David Letterman offered his “Top Ten Signs Barack Obama is Overconfident.” The examples included Obama proposing to change the name of Oklahoma to “Oklobama” and measuring his head for Mount Rushmore.
“When Letterman is doing ‘Top Ten’ lists about something, it has officially entered the public consciousness,” said Dan Schnur, a political analyst from the University of Southern California and the communications director in John McCain’s 2000 campaign. “And it usually stays there for a long, long time.”

Following a nine-day, eight-country tour that carried the ambition and stagecraft of a presidential state visit, Obama has found himself in an unusual position: the butt of jokes. And the snickers about Obama’s perceived smugness may have a very real political impact as McCain’s camp launched its most forceful effort yet to define him negatively. It released a TV ad Wednesday describing Obama as the “biggest celebrity in the world,” comparable to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, stars who are famous for attitude rather than accomplishments.

DRAFT? Well not surprising that Obama the person who never joined the armed services would start the DRAFT again. World Wars to look forward to.

I say the DRAFT should only be for those who voted OBAMA in the primaries. Let there be a section in the rules for those supporting Obama to also support the DRAFT. Let’s see how many votes he would get from that. And if he picks Kaine as his running mate – look for Roe vs Wade to be defunct. Not that I give a damn about that anymore.

  • Lou

We can’t wait until 2012 and we do not appreciate being bambozzled one bit. No OBAMA not now not ever!
    Say no to Islamic rule.

  • B from Bloomington

One theory is that those behind bo want to start war between Russia and China. If that is true, we would most certainly need the draft.

Pay attention to his empty rethoric: what are the “new bold proposals” he, BO is offering?
He is offering nothing, same as McCain, for that matter. He talks about “offering new and bold proposals for change” but doesn’t give any: WTF ??

    Are people that stupid?

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/109177/Gallup-Daily-Obama-45-McCain-44.aspx

Gallup’s daily today, July 31, has Obama back down to a one point lead (but a statistical tie). The pollster concludes this race is going to remain close until the conventions at least. But this Gallup poll only reports registered voters. Remember the one from a few days ago by Gallup for USA Today showing McCain with a four point lead? The difference was that USA Today wanted to see the “likely voters” results. http://time-blog.com/real_clear_politics/2008/07/gallupusa_today_poll_mccain_4.html As I understand it, Gallup switches to “likely voters” later in the season.

During that same reporting period, the Gallup “registered voters” poll had Obama up by 6 and 8 points. Does this mean that right now McCain has a lead among likely voters in the 4+ range, perhaps approaching a double digit lead?

  • Lou

fraudbama says—“I was puzzled by this notion that somehow what we were doing was in any way different from what Sen. McCain or a lot of presidential candidates have done in the past,” Obama said Sunday, speaking about his trip at a conference of minority journalists. “Now, I admit we did it really well. But that shouldn’t be a strike against me.”

He thinks he is president already and is soooo impatient.
    emissary of the devil.

  • B from Bloomington

Have heard that the only people allowed in will be bo supporters and the DNC is doing all they can to facilitate getting them there. They want to get voters out in force. It doesn’t matter if the votes are for bo or McCain, they will be fixed to go toward bo. It doesn’t matter if the registrations are legal or not. They will count if they are for bo. We’ve seen it before, get set to see it again on an unimaginable magnitude.

PLEASE TAKE THE SURVEY ASAP AND SPREAD THE WORD:
WE NEED TO SEND A STRONG MESSAGE TO BRAZILE, PELOSI, DEAN AND THE DNC Rules & ByLaws Committee.
The Caucus thuggery, the Michigan vote stealing and FL should not be forgotten !!’

    DO IT PLEASE.

I’m am glad Hillary will speak on Tuesday and I am going to tape it for my granddaughters. My grandmother was involved in the marches for women right to vote and I have old black and white pictures of her and heard many stories. I guess plastic face Pelosi and blank blank McCaskill will be on stage to get their photo-op. I guess Michelle veto her being VP. She would have outshine both of them. Also I just heard on the news that he is playing the race card again. Give me a break.

    agent 77-
this is why many people support Rangel’s DRAFT reinstatement proposal…People are too detached from the repurcussions of far off wars-especially now that govt’s are using private contractors (like Blackwater and other mercenaries) to fight these wars. When people you know, have grown up with, and love are drafted- the premise is that you will pay more attention to avoiding stupid wars to begin with. Some wars are necessary however US citizens will conclude that there had better be a damn good reason for being in a war if the draft exists because more US citizens will be DIRECTLY impacted in the most personal way possible…Its shocking how detached some US citizens are from what is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan and other areas of conflict around the world.

    (From wikipedia-link below)
Rangel has repeatedly called for the government to bring back the draft. According to Rangel, “There’s no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress, if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm’s way.”[13]
He has also argued that reinstating the draft is a way to make the military more representative of the American public at large. “A disproportionate number of the poor and members of minority groups make up the enlisted ranks of the military, while most priv¬ileged Americans are underrepresented or absent.”[14] In 2003, Rangel introduced HR 163; legislation that would draft both men and women between the ages of 18-26 starting as early as June 2005. It was defeated 402-2 the following year in the House of Representatives, with Rangel voting against his own bill.[15]
In November 2006, he outlined his proposed bill to reinstate the draft. The bill, H.R. 393 (2007), if passed, would require a draft of all men and women in the United States between the ages of 18-42. Polls show 70% of Americans oppose a reinstatement of the draft.[16] In an interview on Face the Nation, Rangel emphasized that people could fulfill their draft obligations through non-military services, such as port and airline security.[17]

    Off topic

    Lanny’s mad:

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/07/clinton-support.html

But I really hope they don’t pressure Hillary to be VP as the poll numbers keep dropping. I can’t vote for her as Obama’s VP. McCain’s VP yes. Obama’s? No.

  • http://investigatebarackobama.wordpress.com/puma/ kat in your hat

WAIT. Who is running this? Also why are we filling out this survey?? Why is everyone just easily filling this out?

It says that Obama wanted to get advice on what his platform should be.

SO WHY TF are WE helping him to build a platform, since this will be handed in…? He can see what “I Own My Vote” wants, and then BS and talk about those specific issues JUST TO try to get Puma votes.

    Ugh, man!

  • Mr.Murder

Just like they stacked supposed donors with rolling totals by issuing cards with predetermined donation back to the campaign….

I have been including pages of “junk” mail along with the any information included in the original envelope on which I have written “PUMA” in their postage-paid envelope and returning it to them (Obama or DNC). I cut my name, address, and any bar or numerical codes from the documents so they will continue to send me contribution requests so I can continue the process. I always make sure there is enough material in their return envelope so that it is going to cost them more than the cost of one stamp to get it back.

  • http://investigatebarackobama.wordpress.com/puma/ kat in your hat

Also, where is the “About” page, or “Who We Are” page?

Why should we sign with our first and last name, email address, and zip code.

I’ll come back later for answers.

  • agent77

no thanks, no how to the draft and to ‘i own my vote’.

the survey shows the changing of ‘i own my vote’ from a hillary support group to a group with a ‘platform’ that includes support for the draft

    boycott ‘i own my vote’

  • Lou

Obama is mysogynistic. He’s bamabozzling when he says he’ll pick a woman. He’s only the presumptuos nominee and he does NOT HAVE ENOUGH OF THE REQUIRED PLEDGED DELEGATES TO BE THE PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE.
I’m saying the everyday until the convention. The news reporters keep writing like he won the nomination..b*llshot

KAT — Larry and I would NEVER post a survey unless we had vetted the people behind it.

That is why we almost never put up links to petitions.

We KNOW this group of people and they are beyond reproach.

If you see it up here, assume we have vetted them.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Just who are you an agent for? Mr. Change?

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

This blog does not, and will not, endorse John McCain.

  • Don

I would love to see Hillary as McCain’s VP but I know it will not happen. Even though I view each as more of a moderate within their own parties I guess the differences between the parties is too great to even allow such a union to be discussed.

Go here to see suggestions for new Obama slogans:

  • susan

I’ve taken the survey, but I would also like to add that it should be made illegal for superdelegates to accept money from any presidential candidate. Obama has paid out to them 3 times what Hillary did, and as long as this practice continues, so does the notion that campaigns can be bought, if not won. I think superdelegates should be done away with completely. Ialso think the Republican practice of winner take all in the primaries makes much more sense than the Dem primary process.

  • susan

I’ve completed the survey. I do have a concern about superdelegates, however. I’ve seen statistics that in past elections, they have overwhelmingly supported the candidate who contributed the most to their own political campaign coffers. In this primary season, Obama was able to pay out to them 3 times what Hillary was able to. I feel that as long as this practice is allowed to continue, so does the notion that presidential campaigns can be BOUGHT if not WON.

  • street_parade

Why don’t you just vote no? That’s what I did for that question.

I am 100% opposed to the reinstatment of the draft.

  • ugsome

I completed the survey. I disagree with the draft because I see no reason to believe that a draft would change the United States government’s propensity for getting into ill-advised wars. Nor do I trust the government to abide by its obligations to servicepeople and veterans.
