The Real Hurdles That Obama Faces

The latest Gallup poll shows the race in a deadlock: “Gallup Daily: Obama 45%, McCain 44%.” That means that Obama not only received no bounce from his whirlwind trip, but that McCain’s attacks are probably working, along with Obama’s own “issues” with arrogance and presumptuousness. I found two particularly fascinating featured items in LisaB’s article:

(1) People are turned off by the “race-baiting” and Obama’s playing the “race card”; and

(2) The Iraqis were unhappy by Obama’s lack of focus during his meetings with them. LisaB quoted an L.A. Times piece using a “source close to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki” who said that Obama “was not interested in what we had to say.”

Then there are these important historic facts from a thought-provoking article, “It ain’t over yet,” written by The Phoenix‘s Steven Stark in Boston:

… Obama’s head winds are just as strong. To win, he will literally have to rewrite history. Some of the hurdles he’ll have to overcome, as I’ve observed previously, include:

No Democrat who hails from north of the Mason-Dixon line has been elected since 1960.

No candidate in the modern primary era has ever been elected in November after failing to win more than one of the nation’s seven largest states in either its pre-convention primary or, if the state didn’t hold a primary, its caucuses.

No candidate in modern times has ever been elected president with a voting record that could be identified as his party’s most liberal or conservative, yet in 2007 Obama was designated as the former (by the National Journal).

No candidate arguably since Abraham Lincoln has been elected president with as little political experience as Obama.

None of this is to say that Obama can’t overcome these historical obstacles, and he has exceeded expectations before. But as any lawyer knows, try to defy too many precedents and the odds begin to run against you.

Moreover, McCain has some cards to play, even if he has not played them yet. The press seems to be under the assumption that, because it knows so much about McCain, the electorate does too. The hunch here is that, while the outlines may be familiar to voters, the details are not. Few voters are intimately familiar with the specifics of McCain’s war heroism; or the fact that he and his wife adopted a little girl from one of Mother Teresa’s orphanages, in Bangladesh; or the personal kindness he has displayed to colleagues like Democrat Morris Udall, who McCain visited regularly while Udall was dying. By November, they will. …

    great post as usual susan!

Good morning guys.. posting this on all pro-hill sites: Please take a few minutes to do this.. Thanks!

Yesterday, Sen. Mccain called Obama out on his incessant race baiting, and it was about time. Enough is enough! I for one am estatic that Mccain and Repubs are not lying down over the fraud and his awful antics.

The action item involves 2 things:

    1) I wanna encourage ALL of you to PLEASE call the Mccain HQ to thank them for calling that fraud out on his incessant race-baiting, and ask them to continue to vet Obama to the FULL extent! Our beloved country’s future is at stake.. and I want Mccain and the RNC to vet him on EVERYTHING. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE call Mccain’s HQ as well as the RNC.

    The phone numbers:
Mccain HQ: (703) 418-2008, open by 10am, EST
    RNC: (202)863-8500

2)The second item, yesterday on CNN, David Gergen said Obama is tanking and needs Hillary as VP to seal the deal. As someone on Hillary’s forum wrote : “Thats like the Cook asking the Captain to peel potatoes.”. For me either Hillary as the nominee.. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HER IN ANY OTHER CAPACITY! She is more qualified, she should NOT accept the VP spot.
She SHOULD NOT bail out this fraud!

It is up to us to remind her campaign WE do NOT want her as VP
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take 2 minutes to call her campaign to relay this message.

Hillary’s Campaign office: 212.213.3717 (should be open by 10am EST)

EVERYONE, PLEASE TAKE 2 MINUTES TO CALL MCCAIN AND HILLARY’s OFFICES.

    Thanks!

    • Postmaster

thanks for the phone numbers….I will call today.

    • BernieO

I agree. I have already emailed the campaign (the contact link is under “Take Action”). Calling is next. Please, please, please everyone do the same. If they realize people are responding the campaign will not back down and people will finally be made aware of just how dishonest Obama is.

Here is a statement from the McCain campaign, courtesy of talkleft.com:

“The McCain campaign was compelled to respond to this outrageous attack because we will not allow John McCain to be smeared by Senator Obama as a racist for offering legitimate criticism,” he said. “We have waited for months with a sick feeling knowing this moment would come because we watched it incur with President Clinton. Say whatever you want about President Clinton, his record on this issue is above reproach.”

Finally someone defends the Clintons! How bizarre that it takes a Republican to do it! So far the media is ignoring this part of the response – surprise! But if the McCain campaign knows that Clinton’s supporters are responding favorably they will be more likely to keep repeating this and the media will have to report it.

In addition to contacting the McCain campaign, please take time to contact media outlets, too. Ask why they are not reporting the fact that McCain is defending the Clintons.

      Done!!!

      • ginaswo still says no Uhhbama

but I told Hill I will support whatever she wants to do, all the way, :0>

        • georgiapeach

I’m with you here. I hope that he has to ask her, if he hasn’t already. And I sincerely hope that she smiles sweetly and tells him to go Cheney himself. But if the offer is made and she thinks it is in her best interest to accept it, I will accept that too. I would just hate to see her go down with a sinking ship. But it is probably a moot point, because I don’t think his ego could handle her as his running mate. He would have to share the spotlight, and if they did win, Hillary would probably get the credit for it. I think he would rather lose than risk it.

  • Sami

I hope the true facts about McCain will be revealed. And also about Cindy. All I have read about her, at various blogs around the blogosphere, had been negative, until I researched for myself. I was shocked to find that Cindy has been actively involved in charity work all around the world, especially facial disfigurement of children in war-torn countries. The daughter who they adopted and obviously love, was one of those children. McCain’s sons have served in Iraq, and yet he doesn’t make that a selling point for political gain (maybe he should). He voted 75% Conservative and 25% with Dems, which means he knows how to include ALL Americans, and I think that’s vital for a President. Obama voted Liberal 95% of his time in the Senate. When Bush made the horrible racist attack against McCain in the Repub Primary, (that he had fathered a Black love child, right before the SC primary), the McCain family decided to not make public their daughter and her facial reconstruction problems, due to her youth at the time and how it might bring embarrassment to her. I really, really admire that! There is much to admire in McCain, and there are years to back up his character and his resolve for ALL Americans. I’m a life-long Dem, Hillary supporter, who will vote McCain ’08 if Hill doesn’t run.

    • Total disgust

Sami- Many americans could learn from you. That is to do their own research and quit listening to all of the propaganda put out by the far left. I have been encouraging everyone I talk with to do just that.
It is so amazing how little americans really know about what is going on right here at home. McCain 2008

Thinking for ourself is an amazing thing.

      • C.S.

~”Thinking for ourself is an amazing thing.”~

A skill, it seems, that schools no longer teach and which mine required. The Obama youth who flock to him seem to be the type that buy their term papers and use Clift notes so a Clift notes candidate would appeal to them. But the surprising thing is how many parents said they supported Obama from this synopsis their kids gave them instead of demanding a well researched reason.

        • Total disgust

C.S.- Scary isn’t it? Maybe it is because they really don’t know.(parents) Many Americans still have a false sense of security. If by some crazy miracle he did become POTUS we would probably experience similar reactions we had with post 9/11. Disbelief and vulnerable.
The schools I attended demanded much more from us as well.
          I don’t know……like a history book to start.

          • C.S.

I was absolutely stunned when I talked with my 16 year old niece a couple of years ago and learned that history was below the discussion of creationism vs evolution while the “3 Rs” were given a quick glance and every academic subject made way for Sports. Fortunately, her parents were more enlightened and her family ended up supplying her with the education she wasn’t getting.

She gets to vote this year and she has already said it won’t be for Obama because she knows he isn’t “the one.” The sad thing is that, although she has converted her friends who were being swayed by the hope thing, there are still so many followers out there and far too few future leaders.

            • Total disgust

              Yes, we arent totally lost.

    • Skiron

McCain’s got great character all right, like when he called his wife a “trollop” and a “cu**”, and unceremoniously dumped his first wife for the much younger and prettier (and richer) Cindy. Great character.

      • No for O

Go away and do your homework first.

      • Lucinda

New troll designation: Broken Record Troll. When they have nothing relevant to say and no valid argument to present, they just repeat the same stuff over and over and over and over and over and over… The result is that they do nothing to help their candidate and might actually hurt him, because people are sick of hearing this stuff.

        • Joe

Lately, all they can do is come here and question the sanity of us infidels for continuing to resist being converted to their Messiah’s jihad. They are really worried that the truth behind the Messiah’s origins and missing years will be finally revealed, that thinking people will realize that he has nothing to offer except whatever “coolness factor” is associated with the idea of a black POTUS.

        • Skiron

Yet, even though McCain’s pattern of chauvinist behavior is common knowledge at this point (or should be, anyway) the McCain apologists on this site still apparently don’t take it into account when they speak so highly of his “character”. I guess you need to repeat the truth a few times before it finally sinks in with some people.

          • Lucinda

Before you can repeat the truth, you have to know the truth.

            • Skiron

Do you evidence to refute him having called his wife those things, or that he dumped his wife for a younger woman?

              • Deke

What is your evidence he ever said those things. Trolls come here like the college republicans did in 2000 and just throw any kind of shit against the wall. As a typical republican they feel that if they keep repeating the lie it will be accepted as truth.
Skiron you must be a college republican who drank the obama koolaid. As well as being required to post here do they make you sell flowers in airports.

                • Skiron

The insults he made to his wife took place during a campaign stop in 1992 in front of aides and reporters, as documented in Cliff Schecter’s book “The Real McCain”.

                  • Zeke

                    Skiron,
You really Must be new here. We don’t tolerate Moral Equivalence arguments here. No PeeWee Hermanism’s. “I know you are but what am I” will not float nor will the excuse your mama used to spank your ass for that since everybody else is doing it, that its OK for you too.
We will vote FOR McCain, warts and all, simply because he loves his country.
Barry may love his country too, but I say F**k

Hey Skiron, why don’t you just go to your own Obamatrollic site and play your Ludicras crap rap dust off JayZ or watch Obambi “Obama gives Hillary the Finger’ on Youtube! That’s your Obambi Anthem ain’t it, moron?

At least Cyndi did go to a wartorn country and adopted a disfigured orphan little girl and gave it the love she is so capable of giving.

What did Michele do? Busy collecting form the Hospital Board thanks to Obambi’s slumlord connections and billionaires from Iraq (Auchi).

Nah. Michele and Obambi were busy allowing their 2 young impressionable girls listen to the hatred drivel and watch Uncle Jeremia’s OBSCENE PULPIT GYRATIONS imitating “Pres. Clinton doing to us what he did Monica”!!! Now, that’s RAP PARENTING FROM THE OBAMARAMA FAMILY.

Any sane parent would have removed his 2 girls from that damn “church” ages ago! Sexual simulations don’t belong on teh pulpit! Of course, listening to JayZ and LUDICRAS has given Obama the right parenting tools all these year, right, Clueless Obamabotic OBAMYOPIC idiot?

and where was Precious Obamaramadingdong when Hillary Clinton was bashed by the media misogynit frat-boys, eh? His gutless sexist SILENCE was palpable!

        This is gonna be fun….LOL

        • tzada

I hope they got it and use it …. However Condi Rice’s insistence that Odinga be made Prime Minister of Kenya will blunt the truth behind what Odinga is and what his supporters did. Like Obama he ran on the CHANGE campaign. His change was to turn Kenya into a Muslim country even tho he claimed to be an Anglican not a Muslim. Is that like Obama is not a Muslim but a Christian? hmmmm?

          • workingclass artist

Well…..you make an interesting observation Tzada…..It will be interesting…..No ?

        Ann Coulter, is that you?

I, too, was really impressed when I learned about Cindy’s charity work. Check out this article:

      http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/22/AR2008072202114_pf.html

The lady has guts. McCain supporters need to get this out. I have a feeling they are afraid if they do, it will revive the story of her drug abuse, but that will almost surely happen, anyway. This would go a long way to counteracting that damaging story which they need to be ready to address anyway. It could be used to argue for a more effective approach to drug abuse, especially since our current lock-em-up approach is bankrupting our system and wasting lives.

      • Ellen D

All it takes to defuse Cindy’s drug use is to link her with the courageous Betty Ford in her fight against it.

    • Zee

The Obamabots actually TAUNTED Cindy for her charitable work.

They photoshopped pictures of the little children with Cindy’s face on them.

      Nice, huh?

Yttik posted a lot of interesting facts about her, too…such as she’s a pilot!

Meanwhile, Michelle is under wraps and hasn’t been seen since she let slip that Obama’s mom was “very single” when she had him!

      • sowsear

That wasn’t a slip. It had more to do with the wording of the citizenship law at the time. They are now trying to pull that chestnut out of the fire.

    • http://texasdarlin.wordpress.com TexasDarlin

      I am a Cindy fan.

      • standard

if we could just convince McCain that nuclear power poisons the earth for an eternity, I would probably vote for him.

  • Sami

Thank you for the phone number, ssmith. I will make those calls at 10:00 today.

Maybe we should include a call to DNC telling them we don’t appreciate Obama injecting race into the campaign, too.

  • ssmith

Sami: thanks for calling.. I wouldn’t waste my energy on the DNC, or I should call it ONC….they are too drunk on kool-aid to know any better..

thanks much for calling mccain, rnc and hillary’s offices!

  • Sami

    You’re probably right, ssmith.

I keep forgetting that the DNC is no longer MY Party — after years of revering, almost, the Democratic Party, it’s really difficult to realize the mindset now, for many of us, is that we no longer have a Party. . . .

I think that if Hillary is nominated, people will come back to the party.

It’s funny that in the end, it will be Hillary Clinton who will ultimately be the uniting person and bring the party back together.

      • mahaska

        Taking bets? ain’t gonna happen.

        • Patrick Walker

I sort of agree. Hillary would be very clever to let this Obama mess play out.

If she were the nominee the party would be torn asunder.

The question is does the Party deserve this amount of regard or is it time for monumental change? I don’t think the Party establishment will learn from this debacle.

          • Patrick Walker

Going a step further, I’m hoping that Hillary asks for and receives Harry Reid’s job as leader of the Senate. I think McCain respects her and she could be a better leash on Obama and limit the damage and ineptitude of his administration.

Man, I have a ton of pictures and tomorrow SimoFish will publish the video she took while Hillary was speaking.

Originally it was labeled an event to help pay down her debt but some how it morphed into a unity event. Hell, there were about 10 Pumas that I know for sure but I’m sure there were more. Afterwards we all stood around and told each other our pen names.

She said that she thinks it would help unify the party if her name was put into nomination and that she wants her supporters and delegates to be recognized and heard.

I shook her hand. I hugged her and I told her to sign the petition that she would win and that we had her back.

    • Sami

This is great news! After jusst reading the NY Times article saying that Hillary did NOT want her name put in nomination, it’s so wonderful to hear straight from her and to set the record straight.

      Thanks to riverdaughter.

      • Hillary for President ’08

So, Hillary IS putting her name in nomination. I knew she would.

It only makes sense that misinformation was spread around about Hillary. They must have known Hillary was going request to put her name in nomination August 1 and tried to deflect it.

Hillary ’08, not Obama, not McCain.

Never forget those could be individuals who frequent Free Republic.

However, if Sen. Clinton demands behind closed door Harry Reid’s job I’d be very, very happy. Reid is a freakin’ Republican doormat and Hillary could work with a McCain administration and be a leash on an Obama one.

  • hootnannie

Let’s face it–Obama had a big problem just running for Prez as a black man. He had to exhibit that it didn’t matter, that he wasn’t going to play up to black folks and make white folks nervous. But, instead, Michelle virtually started off the campaign by saying blacks would wise up and vote for BO when they saw that he could win lots of white votes. And not only has this happened, but high-profile entertainers have rubbed it in the public’s face, arrogantly hooting that whites better get used to having a black Prez because it’s a done deal. Imagine if women had run around hollering this about Hillary and making men believe that they were gonna get their comeuppance! BO has only gotten where he is by playing up his race, and he appears to not know how else to play the game.

    • wodiej

agreed, people are sick to death of having the race card thrown in the ring. It isn’t necessary and it is defeating MLK’s purpose. No one has to do much to bring Obama down, he and his supporters are doing it themselves.

      • Total disgust

You are correct. Sadly the most hurt from all of this crap will be the blacks. It really sucks for them. The damage is already done no matter the outcome of this election.
I never thought affirmative action could be this powerful I know it can help an unqualified person get a position over a qualified but come on, give me a break. This is not supposed to be a selection process, It is supposed to be an election process.

I agree with you. Not my intention to distort it though. It is just the entitlement mentality that bothers me the most. I feel it keeps people down. Keeps people from striving for something better for themselves.

As an “older” white woman — I’ve SEEN the snObama effect. I’ve had AA’s look at me like I was the enemy, as if I were wearing a white robe and KKK hood. One AA guy went out of his way to shun me.

Guess what your life would be like if you were in the minority at about 13% in your country, then further in the minority of 8% who voted for Hillary and imagine how you would be treated by your own kind for not voting for or supporting Obama. We are treated like clan members with black sheets on our heads. We are verbally abused by our own friends, strangers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, neices, and nephews and told we are ignorant, Uncle Toms, etc. Chin up, be encouraged for we still say no Obama, ever.

  • Shainzona

Oh ouch….in today’s NYT, an Op Ed entitled Allies Obama Overlooked, the commenter says:

“In 2004, J. Cofer Black, the State Department’s coordinator for counterterrorism, testified about the success of these partnerships before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s subcommittee on European affairs. Had Senator Obama, who now heads that subcommittee, read the transcripts from the meeting, which took place before he came to office, or had he held a similar hearing, he might have known that the partnerships he called for last week already exist.

Well you can’t expect Obama to call his subcommittee to a hearing. You also can’t expect him to do the homework that would have told him that these alliances already exist.

I mean really. All we need is hope, change and racism. Not hard work like reading transcripts and learning stuff.

I mean a President wouldn’t have to read stuff and learn about actual international alliances and foreign affairs. Please.

Good point about the birth certificate. An official copy only from the Hawaii Department of Health only costs $10.00.

Someone pointed out Obama is going to Hawaii soon.

You don’t need to travel to your birth state to get a copy.

I just sent this list of 13 to the DNC. Had to put my e-mail address before they would accept the e-mail. I wonder if I will get hate mailed or hacked.

          Hey Irish-
You probably will get solicited for contributions. Some of them might ask you to help Hillary settle her debt. After Hillary suspended her campaign I started getting e-mails from the dnc and bho. I have tried to cancel them several times. I think I was finally successful.
But don’t worry if there is one thing the dnc knows, its that they don’t really know him. They will never vet him.

Obama compared himself with Paris Hilton!!

“Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame,” then Senator-elect Obama said at a Gridiron dinner in December, 2004. “I’ve already had an hour and a half. I mean, I’m so overexposed, I’m making Paris Hilton look like a recluse.”
That attempt at self deprecating humor was delivered little more than a month after he was elected to the US senate, and just weeks before he was sworn in.

When I read below about Senator Clinton withholding her name from nomination I was disappointed. But then I thought why not. Let the sane members of the DNC come to her and ask and let her refuse. That way, when the Reid/Pelosi crowd have their way and coronate obama and he goes on to lose they can’t blame her.
I think that enough damage had been done to the donkey brand that she couldn’t win either. Riots at the convention should she win won’t help in that department either. The Old Media would pick up on the meme that the black man was cheated by the racists in the party.
I know that this is moot because apparently the item in the news was just another attack on Hillary. The question is, did it originate from the obama camp or the Old Media themselves?

Plus, now we learn from a Republican source yesterday that if Obama HAD gone to visit the hospital in Germany, they had an attack ad in the pipeline that would have ripped him for supposedly using troops as a campaign prop!

  • AF catfish

PLEASE CORRECT THE RECORD: Abraham Lincoln was much more distinguished and experienced than Obama.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Whig Party Leader by his peers during his short time in the Illinois State Legislature. Obama never was elected to a leadership position.

Abraham Lincoln ran his own law firm, and tried over 400 cases before the state supreme court before running for president. Obama never tried a case and never published a brief or paper.

    • workingclass artist

Aaaand Abe Lincoln was known as….HONEST ABE ! Good points AF Catfish

    • pm317

You’re right. It is a myth (and shame on historians for not correcting it) that Lincoln was as inexperienced as Obama. In trying those 400 cases you cite, he had to travel a lot — like go where the cases are and that travel in itself was like campaigning because he had to make people trust him to hire him for their legal troubles. In those days, people did not go to him but he had to go to them in different parts of the state/country.

      • pm317

So he had made a name for himself as a successful lawyer even before his political foray. Compared to him, Obama is a zero. Look at the emancipation idea and how he stuck with it to make it happen and What has Obama to show for? It is disgusting that this puny person is even being compared to that historical figure.

Obama is middle-aged loser, having achieved nothing in his 48 years, with a humungous ego who thinks his life has prepared him for the office of POTUS. What he has is — illusions of grandeur.

  • Patrick

I have a very close friend who likened McCain’s add to the adds that Corker ran against Harold Ford in 2006. Again, for disclosure, I’m a centrist republican so as not to hide behind anonymity. He is fully steeped in the Kool Aid but we do good go back and forth constantly with the barbs. It’s fun and it keeps me sharp! He said that Obama SHOULD have been outraged by the add and I asked him why? No response. I then informed him that the ad certainly was not racist, it simply painted Obama as an empty vessel, a cold vacuous piece of corporate flotsam and that because it hit so close to home, Obama did the only thing he could do, inject race into the campaign once again.

The irony, I pointed out, was that the Democratic Party in Tennessee (and nationally) did little to help Ford out and eventually basically assisted in his falling from political grace. I have always been a huge Harold Ford fan. Why? Because he is a centrist and, as you can see, that’s me :) ! I thought back in 2004 when he began speaking on the news, etc., that he was the first real shot at an African American president. But because his views didn’t match those of the power elite in the party, he was pushed aside for the empty rhetoric of Obama and now it appears that the DNC is in deep trouble. Too bad, because Ford would be (and maybe someday will be) a great president.

    Take care,
    Patrick

    • Mr. X

I remember the election when Kerry was running. That’s what struck me the most. NO ONE would stand up for anyone. When Kerry messed up a sentence, something that Bush did constantly mind you, the press would be all over Kerry. But NO ONE would stand up for Kerry. Same thing with Ford. No one stood up for him. The media commented on it, but no one from the party did anything. Kerry had already dissed the Clintons, so I’m not sure who was on Kerry’s side, but they were wimps.

The Republicans however, really stood up for each other.

      • Patrick

I have to admit to not watching the democratic primary as much in ’04. I had already made my mind up to write in McCain/Lieberman (which I proudly did and who knows, maybe I’ll get my chance to vote for BOTH this year!). But I do remember being absolutely stunned by how Ford was hung out to dry by his party. I just didn’t understand how both parties had become so polarized and ruled by the far right/left wings of their respective ideologies.

It is a fearful thought for me to have a Far Anything President AND Congress. That is scary.

        Take care,

Nothing like political maneuvering to make the hot summer days more interesting! The question is turning from “How can Obambi capture the nomination and gain support from Hillary supporters?’ to ‘How can the DNC support Hillary’s nomination without alienating Obambi supporters and not be called racists?’ Money is the least of their worries. I use to think that a third pty run by hillary would be disastrous for hil but now i believe she would be seen as the person who saved the democratic party by preventing them from making a huge mistake. In principle hil’s “independent” run would be really the new formation of the democratic party. The people who vote for her and make her the 44 would be in no small part democrats with alot of indies and a signicant showing of repubs.
This choice hillary would have to make would be monumental, colossal, a marker in the timeline of mankind –to force a third pty–to leave the demo pty–how would she govern the demos and repubs in the senate and house? Hillary is up to that challenge. Hillary was made by God to do this thing at this time. See i believe we all have a divine purpose. that purpose can be small like being a friend to sdomeone or giving birth to the next president or a doctor that will cure cancer.
Hillary has gone through a lot of stuff she is NOW made of steel forged out of the hottest of fires. SHE CAN DO THIS.

IMHO, this is why I believe HRC isn’t interested in running as Independent.

Any bozo can run as Independent. But being the nominee of one of the 2 parties (R or D) has more status.

HRC has the qualifications, experience, vision, passion, leadership, etc. to be THE nominee of the Democratic party (or at least what it used to be).

It would be diminishing to HRC for her to run as a 3rd party candidate. To do so would be like having played ball in the major leagues and then trying out for a minor league team; it’s a step backwards.

Unless the DNC is dissolved due to the bull that it tried to pull this year with selecting the unqualified Obamarosa as its nominee and is replaced by a viable 3rd party, then I don’t foresee HRC running as a 3rd party candidate.

She would want to do it right, to be the nominee of one of the 2 major parties, with all of the pomp and status that comes with that, which HRC most certainly deserves!

Maybe Gallop should see how it would look if they just look at likely voters.

    • tzada

Many people don’t know that Zogby Polls is owned by one of two brothers. One is a SD for Obama and has an Arab paper, the other runs the poll. Both appear to be in the tank for Obama.

Also polls can be slanted. One set of questions for one group of people and a second for another. Depending on the voice at the other end of the phone, it wouldn’t be hard to switch over. Also seeing some of the straw polls at AOL there are many times 2 choices, both of them worded in such a way as to elicit the same response, the one THEY want.

      • mahaska

Polls are like lie detector tests. It all depends on how you ask the questions. That is why they are not reliable.

    Super Delegates:

    1. Obama cannot unite the party. He doesn’t have the wherewithal to do it, including the psychological complexity. Telling supporters of other candidates, “you’ll come around,” or “get over it,” or “get a life,” or threatening to punish holdovers in the party, is not the way you unite anything.

    2. Clinton cannot unite the party from the sidelines. She cannot FORCE her supporters to support someone else. She can however bring together the party as the party nominee, because she has the depth and experience to do it. She would never talk to Obama supporters the way Obama minions have to us.

    3. Talk Obama into the vice presidency where he can be cast as “the next generation” and then spend time gaining experience and real credibility. He can make sure from that spot that efforts in Washington are bipartisan and friendlier.

    4. Obama’s “one-worldism” is fatal to his campaign. Other countries do not want a king of the world, with Obama at the top. The world has regrouped into power centers that compete against the U.S. and they want less of U.S. dominance not a “regaining of it.” And Obama’s diplomacy is “getting the world to like us again.” The thrust should come from a desire for cooperation and mutual survival, not to be “liked.”

I made my phone calls, and the lady who answered at the RNC was VERY nice to me. When I told her that I hoped the RNC would properly vet Obama, since there’s a lot we don’t know about him, she reminded me that a book about Obama was coming out today.

She seemed genuinely pleased that I had called. I started out saying I was calling about the racist remarks, and when I said that I agreed with McCain on it, she sighed in relief and said, “Oh, good”.

Obama is delving into an area that he is going to bring retribution on to not only the Democratic party, DNC, his supporters and this country, but mostly to HIMSELF. Using race to get anything is wrong. But it is especially so for something as important as President. Whenever someone uses the race card they do so knowing it will trigger emotion, often times violence. It is not just white guilt that gets some to play along w these games, it is utter fear. I believe by the time this is all over there will be violence and race relations will have been set back if they haven’t been already. In this day and age there is no reason for it. But the people it is affecting are allowing it to be done to themselves. They have allowed themselves to be convinced that only a black person can help bring equality forgetting oh so quickly about the Clintons.

        Total,
Using Obama’s definition of Democrat, your last two statements are mutually exclusive.

Thanks for the story. I don’t think Cindy’s past illness of becoming dependent on pain killers is an issue, but rather an educational piece. Many people become dependent on pain killers due to illness and it is just now being addressed by the medical community.

If they try to go after Cindy for this, it will open the door to Obama’s drug use and that is some thing they don’t want. Cindy’s charity work and her commitment to it will continue, whether or not McCain is elected.

Cindy is a humanitarian that works for those less fortunate and does it quietly like countless others. The world benefits from humanitarians that never seek to be rewarded, doing good is their reward and seeing the good works is their motivation.

Thank you Cindy McCain, the world needs more people like you.

“It is not about me — it never has been. I felt it was important — that I had to do it. I never took government money. It was my own, and I am not ashamed of it.”

Excellent article. Cindy McCain will be an excellent first lady and role model for all women.

Michelle Obama can’t hold a candle to her.

Michelle couldn’t hold a candle FOR her!

Since Howard Dean has done such a brainless, LOUSY job running the DNC, just think of the bullet we have dodged when he lost his chance to be the Democratic nominee way back when. Hillary was the logical, experienced choice this year but Obama bought the nomination from her, aided and abetted by the DNC.

My position is simple: I don’t admire or want McCain-I simply can’t support Obama. Given the choice of two bad Presidents, better the GOP takes the hit.

Yes, and there are all those historical facts Hillary kept reminding us of: Remember PA, OH, and West Virgina…there were stats, like NO president has won the WH without winning those states in decades, or even ever.

“It’s funny that in the end, it will be Hillary Clinton who will ultimately be the uniting person and bring the party back together.”

Hillary has *always* been the unity candidate. From day one, she was the candidate capable of bringing the races together, healing class divisions, resolving conflicts between domestic and international communities, mending gender divisions, and most importantly, building the foundation for a new Democratic assault on the southern republican power base. If she were the nominee, Arkansas, West Virginia and Florida would definitely go blue, and Virginia, Kentucky and North Carolina would be in play. With Obama, everything in the south is gone except quite possibly Virginia.

Hillary Clinton is the uniter. Barack Obama is the most divisive mainstream democratic candidate since George Wallace, another race-obsessed flim-flam artist.

LISTEN TO HILLARY DIANE CLLINTON’S SPEECH IN BEJING 1995…and you’ll see what a President’s Voice sounds like!

HILLARY FOREVER! THANKS FOR SETTING THE BAR SO HIGH NO ONE BUT YOU WILL EVER REACH IT!

(and thanks to McCain for respecting Pres. Clinton’s flawless record on race relations that the Obama Axelord despicably dirty campaign spun to their own dubious ends! More respect from an honorable republican than from a XEROXED DEMOCRAT LIKE OBAMBI!

Maybe the reason no one has seen michelle obama lately is the campaign thinks the rnc will pounce on her for her college thesis, and in my honest opinion did not nor has not been spoken of enough.
If one is to read it then all that she has said about america and the black/white issues are rather disturbing. It is vitally important to the voting public, not just non-democrats are aware of this paper. it provides a unique insight into her poltical agenda. It cannot be dismissed as simply a college paper – it is the blueprnt for her and bho’s political career.

“Michelle Obama does not look into a crowd of Obama supporters and see Americans. She sees black people and white people eternally conflicted with one another.

The thesis provides a trove of Mrs. Obama’s thoughts and world view seen through a race-based prism. This is a very divisive view for a potential first lady that would do untold damage to race relations in this country in a Barack Obama administration.”
