A Young Woman’s Comment

Tonight, I went to Hillary Clinton’s Senate Web site. You should visit her News section — what a rich array of accomplishments she achieves, every single day.

Regarding the video below, recommended by one of our readers: The young woman is terrified of Barack Obama’s lack of experience and lack of effort to take the time to learn in-depth the knowledge truly required to be president. Unless she’s a diehard far-right Republican, this young woman would not be “terrified” of Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton has done the work. She IS a worker. She doesn’t TALK about doing. She DOES. And she has done the work for 30-plus years.

By the way, we haven’t posted the McCain ad that is causing such a brouhaha among the liberal media and blogs. I honestly don’t see what the fuss is about. Do you? Check it out:

  • agent77

Why would ‘I Own My Vote’ confuse its support of Hillary with promotion of a platform that includes promotion of the DRAFT??

    BOYCOTT ‘I OWN MY VOTE’

  • JoseyJ

Obama compared himself to Paris Hilton long before John McCain did…

“Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame,” then Senator-elect Obama said at a Gridiron dinner in December, 2004. “I’ve already had an hour and a half. I mean, I’m so overexposed, I’m making Paris Hilton look like a recluse.”

That attempt at self deprecating humor was delivered little more than a month after he was elected to the US senate, and just weeks before he was sworn in.

By the way, we haven’t posted the McCain ad that is causing such a brouhaha among the liberal media and blogs. I honestly don’t see what the fuss is about. Do you?

    The truth hurts.

  • Clinton Fan

Because, as Charlie Rangel points out, people who are SUBJECT TO BEING DRAFTED are less likely to engage in stupid, idiotic wars. Do you actually think that so many people would have freely voted to go to war in Iraq if there were a “no exceptions” draft on the books? Of course not–it would be political suicide to so do.

You don’t seem to understand the full nuance of the issue.

Go back and look at Rangel’s rationale. It makes perfect sense. He’s right.

  • Idiocracy08

    That’s uncalled for.

  • Dot

Please tell me this isn’t true! Hillary just said she will not be asking for a vote at the convention. She has given up. I will now be voting for McCain.

  • Idiocracy08

    That’s to Mr. X

How would you like to be tortured like that?

  • hedy

I don’t know why the media is so down on the ad. Whoopi went way over the top about it and Elizabeth was right when she said that we can’t say anything about Obama. He played the race card and now they say McCain did. How stupid the media looks when they don’t see what the ordinary everyday people see in him. The Obama campain is getting nervous because his acting job on the world stage didn’t play out to the american people the way that they wanted and they are doing eveything they can to push us against McCain. So lets play the race card so he can get everything stirred up AGAIN.

  • Idiocracy08

Don’t believe it until you hear it from her lips.

That’s what the MSM does. Puts out lies like that and then if Hillary says she does want her name on roll call, then the MSM will be talking about what a liar she is.

  • RepublicanChick

As I mentioned to james andrews (I believe that was the poster’s name) yesterday, do not believe anything until you hear it from a reliable source. I believe another poster stated it wasn’t reliable until it came from Hillary herself.

    I agree wholeheartedly.

The MSM is angered by PUMA and JSND and therefore, I wouldn’t put anything past them trying to rile up Hillary’s devoted supporters.

Just my thought–take it for what it’s worth.

  • sowsear

She told PUMAs,including Riverdaughter, last night that she DID want her name placed into nomination at the convention.

WOW! McCain is great in that setting. The man still has no elbows though.- Mr. X
    …………….

McCain, was beating, and I believe both of his arms broken at various places while in captivity for 5 years as a POW. So, it is for that reason that he can’t move his arms above his shoulders to wave.

Despite his mobility issues he continues to work and isn’t afraid to take questions from the citizens which is what is important. The man has the will and reflects the American spirit of never giving up and more importantly willing to work for it.

We will just call his heart level wave the McCain Wave!

  • Paul3triple

yes that is the problem with his arms.
It is disgusting to poke fun at someone’s handicap recieved while fighting for our country.

  • RepublicanChick

Elizabeth drives me nuts sometimes, but I geniunely think she’s a very courageous person having to put up with those windbags all the time. This is what life is like on any of those shows—liberals outnumbering conservatives. In her own way, she just speaks her personal beliefs and then manages to make Whoopi, Rosie, etc…look like an ass.

As for Whoopi, she reminds me of my neighbor who is a self professed “strong black woman” that will get into your face if you speak anything appearing unfavorable regarding Obama.

She amuses me and I enjoy watching her blood pressure rise.:-)

  • Seattle Moss

Just about sums up how I feel.
As Clinton supporters we were able to see beyond and into the soul of Obama and his followers.
Obama nation is a menace and a threat to all we hold dear.
I never thought this election could come down to a vote on our actual existence and way of life, but that is what we are facing.
An attempted hostile takeover of our great country.
When I saw those two ladies in fear and almost in tears thanking McCain I felt the same way.

    McCain is the protector!!

  • Indy

Vietnam went on almost my entire childhood and youth because of the draft. An endless supply of bodies can only lengthen a war. And those with money, power or priveledge can avoid the draft (they did then) so it certainly doesn’t put a different class of people into the mix.

The democrats are the ones who pushed for the end of the draft, and back then they were right. Bringing it back is wrong.

  • PUMAtastic

I think it’s a “that’s so crazy it just might work scheme”

It won’t work and here’s why.

During the Vietnam was when there still was a draft, the rich had an ‘out’ by going to college. As long as they were in school, they didn’t have to serve. The rich and the powerful always have ways to keep themselves insulated from actually having to feel the effects of their policies and actions.

It’s a crazy scheme, and it won’t work, and they know it. There must be some other reason they put this in. They have a plan for using the draft that they are not being forthright about.

  • Andy

    sowsear:

Where did she said this? Could you give a link.
I really really wish/need to know what HRC is thinking these days…

  • yttik

After the McCain ad, Obama’s website has some words about how it’s you they’re attacking and it’s you who must prove them wrong. Those words combined with the messiah like energy around Obama, could really rile up some crazy people. Obama never seems to think about the consequences of his words or what craziness they could inspire. Is this the kind of thing that happened in Kenya?

Obama never seems to denounce the violence of his supporters. Tavis Smiley was getting death threats, a decent human being would have said, hey people that’s not okay. That’s not how you honor me. Obama remained silent.

Again, people were talking about riots at the DNC when it looked like Obama may not get the nomination. Obama never denounced that, he never led his supporters down a more appropriate path. He takes no responsibility for his supporters and shows no leadership.

  • s. hall

agent 77 — are you referring to Obama wanting to institute a draft? PUMA

  • Andy

Whoopi lost it when she stupidly and with NOT an ounce of intelligence critiziced from her guts HRC for not
conceeding the race the Tuesday HRC WON South Dakota !! Whoopi said she was “offended” WTF??? What an imbecile !!

    Mr X — Elbows aren’t necessary for a President — but a brain is. McCain 08

  • bert

This young lady is not the only one who is scared of an Obama Presidency. I am too. As in the primary he and his campaign are playing the race card. I hope McCain and the Republicans fight back. HARD.

In the mean time – has anyone else seen this? Seems Obama has a birthday next week and in a campaign stop in Iowa yesterday his adoring fans sang, “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.” Mr. President???? There he goes again. Let’s just skip this election thingie. It is so not the change I seek thinks Obama. Link below.

  • PUMAtastic

That’s why I’m voting for him.

  • Indy

It’s true, Mr X. He is unable to raise his arms normally due to torture.

  • Dawnelle

I totally agree and RAngel is WRONG!

And retention rates would always be at this 4 yr or 3 yr interval. NO one would stay in if they were forced to serve.

Some people just do NOT take orders well and not much you can do will change them.

PLUS, Rich people would STILL FIND A WAY to keep their spoiled brats out of serving.

PLUS, I served and would NOT trust the guy in the fox hold next to me that was only complaining about having to be there in the first place.

I want someone who CARES enough to donate some of their TIME not only there cuz their NUMBER CAME UP like some big DEATH lotto!!

NO, no , no! That bird will NOT fly!

    trust me

  • fif

do you know why his arms are like that? He broke both arms when ejecting from his shot plane over Hanoi. He was then repeatedly tortured for years as a pow. Have some respect.

  • s. hall

Mr. X — thats OK. I know you’re a good person. McCain doesn’t talk about his torture. McCain was tortured for 5 years in Vietnam and even when his captors wanted to release him he refused to go because he felt they would use his release for propaganda reasons. His father and grandfather were Admirals.

  • Dawnelle

    fox HOLE not hold

and yes a draft would only continue a needless useless war which must be what SOME want right? ON THE RIGHT?

Will the GOP turn McCain into a rock star?

Plan, hold a free concert in Central Park with free beer, pizza and hot dogs and pre-speech entertainment provided by the Rolling Stones, after all Jagger is a Senior Citizen now too.

McCain will have 1 million plus people to give a useless speech to, but will become as rock star famous as Obama has cheated to be! McCain can also claim that he is the one we’ve been waiting for!

  • PUMAtastic

In her own way, she just speaks her personal beliefs and then manages to make Whoopi, Rosie, etc…look like an ass.

Actually each of those three possess the abilty to look like 4 asses each, at the same time. So you should have said she manages to make them look like 12 asses.

  • Dawnelle

    for future wars perhaps????

    No, no, no, no!

  • Linda

The real fuss is about the real issue, and they’re upset he SAID IT.

…that Obama is NOT ready to LEAD. He has become just a celebrity that sounds good reading speeches from a teleprompter. Speeches and words that have been reused and resused by the Axe(lrod)

  • Idiocracy08

I think it was yesterday that Joe Scarbrough said that too (can’t say anything about Obama or will be called a racist).

He kept laughing at Mika saying she drank the koolaid and is in the tank for Obama.

    I’m still voting for HILLARY!!

    It aint OVER!!

  • PUMAtastic

I’ve not heard it on CNN or any other news agency, I’ve never seen any link.

It is confined to the internet and is a malicious lie.

  • s. hall

Andy — I have lost all respect for Whoopie. She used to be proud to say she was a friend of the Clintons. She even started the primary season as a Hillary supporter — then something happened and she turned militant. I have not always agreed with Elizabeth in the past–however, I don’t like when the other 3 gang up on her. The day after Whoopie used the N word 8 times she was forced to apologize. So Elizabeth was right — if you don’t use N word at all you never have to say you’re sorry.

  • Dot

I read Hillary is not asking for a vote at the convention on the http://www.dailynews.com/politics.

  • Dawnelle

I also honor his service but don’t think that automatically makes him a perfect man or candidate.

    So sorry.

  • RepublicanChick

Actually, what you said was humorous and Senator McCain has used humor when talking about his injuries as well.

As with other Americans that know the story about Senator McCain, we deeply respect him for his service to his country.

HOWEVER, let us not fall prey into the Obama mentality that everything is off limits especially when Senator McCain has joked about it as well. Folks were afraid to laugh and he said it was okay. “You have to find humor in life to enjoy it fully.” Or something to that affect.

McCain can have a temper when he’s passionate about something and believes you’re wrong, but he also has an incredible sense of humor. He was a Sailor after all. :-)

  • Indy

“shows no leadership” is exactly right. But from the emails sent to pumas from delegates & supers (as documented on the pumapac website), BO and his supporters will do anything to win. He accused Hillary of that, but actually he was projecting when he said it. He is also projecting when anyone who questions him in any way is a racist. In the beginning I was against him because I knew he was an entrenched Chicago politician. In the course of the last 16 months he has presented dozens of other reasons to fight against his bid to be King President.

  • candymarl

I’ve watched this ad. They’re criticizing Obama’s positions and lack of experience.

    That’s racist too?

Well then, criticism of Hillary should have been considered sexist. But it wasn’t.

When Hillary was called names and referred to as reminding one commentator of his ex-wife not a word was said.

A news program with men openly discussed women being called b*tches. It was agreed that some are and not a word was said. Not by Obama or his supporters.

The old double standard is alive and well.

Some things are politically correct. Calling a sitting female Senator a b*tch, wh*re, and c*nt is okay.

Criticizing Obama even in the mildest terms is not okay.

If this type of criticism is too much how can Obama withstand the heat of being the POTUS and CiC?

  • http://nobho.blogspot.com/ Johnny at Work

The only person injecting RACE into the campaign has been IBAMA.

As pointed out by McCain, Ibama played the “Race Card” in Missouri. The networks reported Ibamas comparison with the Presidents on the dollar bills, but they did not report Ibamas comment about being Black.

This has been reported: “What they’re going to try to do is make you scared of me,” Obama said. “You know, ‘He’s not patriotic enough, he’s got a funny name,’ you know, ‘He doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.’”

This injection of race in the same speech has not been reported: “It’s a leap, electing a 46-year-old black guy named Barack Obama,” Said Ibama.

The video of the speech was posted by the Ibama Campaign, but they recently scrubbed it from youtube.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o5IQvMl4A0

This is the same scare tactic used by Ibama during his attempt to shake down Hillary supporters for cash. And again during a fundraiser among his supporters in Jacksonville.

OBAMA: We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run. They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me,”
“He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black? Obama told the crowd, which cheered.

Some young racist black protesters stood up, unfurled a banner, and heckled Waffles this morning during his Florida Town Hall, shouting the chant “What about the black community?”

The crowd (which was both racist because they booed black protesters and not racist because they are supporting Obambi)seemed befuddled and responded with a chant of their own “Yes we can!”

Waffles looked nervous and told them more than once to sit down and wait for the Q&A.

Oblowme took a question from one of the protesters who wanted to know why he hasn’t down more about the state sponsored oppression of poor blacks.

The response? “I’ve issued several statements about these issues and I passed a death penalty reform bill in Illinois.”

P.S. I threw death penalty reform under the bus a few weeks ago. But don’t worry, there’s still plenty of room for the likes of you.

  • RepublicanChick

I agree…it’s disgusting what they said about Hillary. They can all kiss my ass. Obama is a friggin’ pansy ass too. Hillary has more balls than he does or ever will have. She purposely tried to avoid anything that might be construed as using her gender for leverage. Please….

  • candymarl

Funny how the media keep reporting this with no direct information from Hillary herself.

Translation: The DNC doesn’t want Hillary on the ballot.

They’ll disregard the rules and keep her out of nomination by saying “she didn’t ask for it”.

The same way they twisted the rules for apportioning delegates from the primaries. The fix is in.

  • imustprotest

I’ll go one further…it’s disgusting to poke fun at someone’s hanicap, period.

    I agree with you here.

I don’t like Elizabeth. I didn’t like her on the Island where she lost right away by her uppity attitude.

She’s mellowed and at some point has become a bit more enlightened and Whoopass has totally changed. That is scary. She used to be the THINKING one. Now I guess it’s all up to JOy? lol

I have no idea what is all the fuss with the “Celeb Ad”
The NYT Ed. went totally crazy (Loony Land) saying it was doing “an OJ on Obama” ?? Tapper wrote about this yesterday:

NYT Editorial Board Says McCain Camp Playing “O.J.” Card

    July 31, 2008 6:11 PM

The New York Times editorial board says of Sen. John McCain’s “Britney” TV ad: “The ad gave us an uneasy feeling that the McCain campaign was starting up the same sort of racially tinged attack on Mr. Obama that Republican operatives, some of whom work for Mr. McCain now, ran against Harold Ford, a black candidate for Senate in Tennessee in 2006. That assault, too, began with videos juxtaposing Mr. Ford with young, white women.”

The NYT also said that when McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said “Barack Obama has played the race card, and he played it from the bottom of the deck,” he “conjur(ed) up another loaded racial image. The phrase dealing the race card ‘from the bottom of the deck’ entered the national lexicon during the O.J. Simpson saga. Robert Shapiro, one of Mr. Simpson’s lawyers, famously declared of himself, Johnny Cochran and the rest of the Simpson defense team, ‘Not only did we play the race card, we dealt it from the bottom of the deck.’”

And I thought Obama meant we wouldn’t have to re-fight those 1990s battles again!

she quite. She swore she never would, but she did. Hillary just set women’s causes back 100 years. I sent money, and time, and I feel betrayed. Was it all just a show? I am so disillusioned. Have the last 2 months been all about getting more donations from us? There will not be a woman taken seriously again in this generation.

  • alee21

McCain is right to go on the offensive; Obama has gotten away with murder during the primary run, throwing out the race card at every turn, having his surrogates intimidate Hillary to drop out of the race almost every day. Meantime Obama has no morals fixing the caucuses and having his minions intimidate Hillary supporters.

Obama is in love with himself and thinks he is Presidential material because he looks good (that’s what others say – I personally find him unattractive made even more so by his arrogance and sneer).

I think McCain’s ad is right on: America loves the idea of American idol except when things do down the tube. Unfortunately we don’t get to elect an American Idol President every season.

There were tons of loopholes to get out of the Draft and still there was a strong effort to end the war from the youth. I certainly don’t see that kind of commitment from the youth today to end the war in Iraq (looks like old people are leading the charge), and IMOP, it is because they have no real worry about serving.

I really don’t know if this is politically the smart thing to do for the Dems (but, the Dems have not done too many smart things anyway), but I believe that something needs to be done to ensure that our Country is fair in who pays the price as well as who gets the benefits. Right now, it is totally skewed and most citizens are getting a free ride on the back of our Volunteer Military.

Everyone is so sick of the cries of racism coming from Obama that this criticism is going nowhere. This was a successful ad and the smartest move McCain could make.

Blondes have more fun. They are shallow and stupid. A blonde is desirable, especially to blacks who want to prove they’ve made it in society. Blondes are trophies and sex symbols. Our media thrives on stereotypes, so a spoof on celebrity is bound to expose this at work.

Obama exploited his “relationship” with blonde sex pot actress Scarlett Johansen. He milked the email scandal to seem sexier, younger, hipper and play to Hollywood bad boy stereotypes. He mentioned Paris Hilton before. Obama and his campaign know what they are doing. Every politician knows how to manipulate public sentiment and exploit our culture.

McCain made a bold move by revealing the man behind the curtain and subtly calling Obama to the carpet for subtly exploiting his race to his advantage. He inoculated himself to further accusations of racism. He has effectively leveled the playing field after Obama’s repeated digs at his age. It pissed McCain off to have to endure these insults. When Cindy said something rude about his age, he called her a c*nt, and he said she wears too much make-up and looks the trollop. Being told you’re not sexy, that you’re old and close to death hurts, especially from a loved one in the heat of an argument. It’s fighting words.

If I remember correctly, it was the Governor of Illinois that shut down death row. The Governor was George Ryan. I remember that because it was in the news.

It was the Governor that pushed for the reform bill.

But I guess Obama can take credit for that too.

But if Obama had addressed this in his speeches then why couldn’t he give the protester specifics? Hillary would have.

  • Hope Floats

Reading the Salon article by Joan Walsh, I came across this comment. The person writes consistently good ones, but this was their best this time. It was a response to “domeni.”

It makes you wonder what kind of saint one must be to be the first black to win the presidency. I don’t think Obama will win. But evidently people want a leftist Jackie Robinson, who never fights back, who never calls out racism and ugliness, who always does what they want. No human can really do that. Even Robinson took a piece out of William F Buckley when he got the chance. Some people think any mention of race is bad. How CAN we talk about race when anti-Obama people accuse us of racism by even mentioning the elephant in room? He’s black. It matters to a significant number of people.

You may disagree with me, but I was pointing out the perspective that people Obama needs to win might have. These are folks he hasn’t won over yet and, let’s face it, they are almost all “white” folks.

I think this is going to get very tough and ugly for many of Obama’s black supporters. It’s going to be an extremely hurtful race and much worse that anything they think the Clintons flung at Obama and — what is going to get really frustrating — is that they will see people getting away with it. The people Obama needs to win now are out of range form chastisement at Salon. They don’t care what you think.

Yes, he is going to have to be like Jackie Robinson and he’s going to have to do it while still seeming tough enough to be president. He is tightrope walking now, trying to do the racial equivalent or what Ann Richards always said women had to do: Dancing backward in high heels.

They are trying to paint him into a corner. If he complains about racism, he reminds people that he is black not biracial. If he acts assertive about racism, he arouses fears about angry black men. If he rolls over and allows himself to be stereotyped, feminized, and painted weak — then he fails the leadership test.

Everything that Shelby Steele said, plus nightmares.

Short answer: You, or rather he, can’t really talk about race. If he makes this about race, he loses. I know that this is not the historical redress people wanted. It’s simple: If he attempts to have another conversation about race, he can kiss the presidency goodbye. – AKA smith

I thought the same thing! I thought it showed crowds filling up the DC memorial area like the ones from MLK’s speech. He’s never garnished crowds of that size! I actually thought in some ways it promoted Obama!

Thanks to the both of you. I still feel like a jerk though. I should have known better. I should have seen the link with his POW days, but I never knew anything about what happened to him there. I never made the connection.

In light of this, who really knows more about hope and change than a 5 year POW survivor? Obama’s campaign seems so trite compared to what McCain has done and gone through for his country, in ways that did not sink in before.

  • RepublicanChick

Why not? I’m praying God forbids an Obama election. If not, we’re all in trouble. This chick will be crying right along with that girl in YouTube video.

No, it wouldn’t be God’s fault if Obama is elected. However, it will most certainly mean the racists (that would be us anti-Obama folks) will no longer be able to stomach living in this country.

I’m just waiting for the anointed One to tell us to bow at his feet.

  • Clinton Fan

No, Vietnam did not go on all of your childhood “BECAUSE OF THE DRAFT.”

It went on because assholes in office, and that includes everyone from Eisenhower (who, along with Kennedy, missed an opportunity to CO-OPT the North Vietnamese) to Nixon, Republicans AND Democrats, got mired in French Indochina/Vietnam–a place where insurgents were determined to win, where there was no “front line,” where the enemy looked like a friendly, and vice versa, and the situation–as CHARLES DEGAULLE warned JFK–was a fucking, unwinnable quagmire. And of course, NO President wanted to be “the first to lose a war.” So they kept schlepping along, hoping to pass it on to the next asshole.

“The Greatest Generation,” parents of the draftees, went along with that bullshit, too, for the longest time. They didn’t want America to “lose the first war ever,” so they backed the government, many of them, when they should have been saying “Fuck, no–I am not sending my kid to war.”

Don’t blame “the draft” for the actions of lazy politicians, or the unwillingness of mature adults to admit our country fucked up when they became involved in the Indochine.

When “the draft” got serious–and do go back and check your history, you seem to have an incomplete understanding, there–THAT’s when kids took to the streets and started protesting. No one was griping when they were taking them by dribs and drabs (see, there was ALWAYS a draft after WW2…they used it in Korea, too–ask CHARLIE RANGEL, war hero, Democrat from Harlem, Ways and Means Chair, and very smart sumbitch, about Korea) –it was when the lottery hit and everyone was checking their number, that people started getting concerned, and started protesting in MASSIVE numbers. That large scale lottery draft is what ENERGIZED those protests. That’s why the war ended. And that’s why Bush will NOT start up a draft–he’d rather do a back-door draft, put people on stop-loss orders (even when your enlistment ends, you have to stay), con them with sweet initial orders, only to have those assignments changed if bodies are needed, or, push come to shove, lower the recruiting standards and offer massive bonuses to persuade the poor and stupid to join. And, where you can’t fill in the holes, there’s always BLACKWATER.

Why do you think there have been so few decent antiwar protests over this war? Because no one takes the war PERSONALLY–they don’t HAVE TO–there’s NO DRAFT. The few demonstrations there have been are piking, stupid, asinine efforts compared to what used to happen during Vietnam.

Every year, those idiots from INTERNATIONAL ANSWER put on a hodgepodge protest in DC, griping about everything, including the war, but back in the day, in the late sixties, early seventies, before the frigging internet, before text messaging and cell phones, people managed to get to protests that were about the war, and ONLY the war, every single weekend in most major cities and college towns by the THOUSANDS simply by hearing about them from friends, in person or via a LAND LINE telephone, or from a quaint thing called “flyers” pasted to phone poles and bulletin boards and shoved under dorm room doors. These kids didn’t just go to those protests to meet members of the opposite sex and have a social experience, maybe smoke a little grass (though that was a draw, these were largely “young people” efforts), they went because they were indicating their personal displeasure at the prospect of they or their loved ones being drafted. It became PERSONAL, you see.

Again, “the draft” — those lotteries, on a large scale–is what ENDED Vietnam. You have it backwards. You misunderstand the dynamic and the cause-effect completely.

Rangel–who knows all too well the horror of war–has it right.

  • shtuey

I heard Michelle Malkin is reporting that the Hiltons, big Republican donors, are pissed about the ad. If I were them I’d be more pissed about a daughter like Paris. Priorities.

  • Hope Floats

Also, I have agreed with domeni to a point. I know the stigma of AA makes it difficult for truly gifted people, blacks or white women, to be recognized for their accomplishments. There is the “celebrity” trap like “Michael Jordan makes tons of money. Any black can make it.” Women have a harder time, because they are seen as benefiting from their role as consort to the oppressive class, the white male. Hillary had a hard time in this election, because of her marriage to Bill Clinton. Obama was aware of this and played it to his advantage. Her surrogates should have been more diligent about pointing out coded language and subtext. She ran a bad campaign in many ways. But…

That Obama encouraged sexism and was guilty of it himself and used every dirty trick in the book, it didn’t endear him to me, that’s for sure. It made me look closer at who he is, and I genuinely can’t stand him now. He’s a snake oil salesman. He is a lot like Bush – smug, self-absorbed, weak, cruel. Obama was raised as a privileged white male. This is hardly a change. He is out of touch with the AA community, despite his “community service” which was – as always – all about him. He is out of touch with most Americans. Than God it looks like he’ll lose.

  • RepublicanChick

Again, you didn’t know. McCain knows about war and the tragedies firsthand. When Obamabots try to use that speil that he wants to endanger our children to further wars, I laugh. McCain has 4 sons. The oldest served in the Navy while his youngest two are currently active duty military themselves. They do not highlight this very often because the McCains want to be sensitive to other families that have loved ones serving.

(I’m not sure if the other son from his previous marriage served or not. Wouldn’t surprise me if he did, but I do know of the other three.)

As for his injuries, McCain has used humor to put people at ease.

  • Clinton Fan

Dawnelle, you’re wrong. I’ve elucidated elsewhere under this topic Charlie’s rationale. The reason this war continues is because NO ONE is at risk.

at his town hall meeting today in FL he was heckled by a group of men……
Who held up a sign with about the African Americans Mr Obama…..

During his speech, Obama was interrupted by three men who stood up with a banner asking, “What about the black community, Obama?” Many in the crowd began chanting, “Yes, we can,” the Obama campaign mantra to counter the criticism.

Obama told the three that they would have a chance to ask questions after he had his opportunity to speak. A town-hall organizer later took the banner from the three.

During the question-and-answer period, Obama called on one of the men who held the banner, who chastised the candidate for not speaking out more about predatory lending and its impact on the black community, Hurricane Katrina’s destruction and the fatal shooting of an unarmed man on his wedding day in New York.

Obama defended his record, stuttering wait wait wait..saying he had spoken out on all those issues. “I may not have spoken out the way you want me to speak out,” he said. And as the crowd stood and applauded, Obama stressed the need to be respectful, saying, “the only way to solve the problems in this country is if we all come together — black and white …”

Mr Obama needs to take his own words and be respectful ……

I say, implicit in the idea of a draft is fairness. Granted, there have been serious abuses of draft dodging. I say the abuses must be forcefully stopped, and not the principles of a draft. Implicit also is the notion that participatory defense of our country to share the responsibility (and honor) to protect and defend our country and those we love is a good thing. I find it interesting and ironic that many people subjectively select fairness issues, and often unfairly rationalize away other fairness issues. It sometimes seems, there are some people who oppose the draft, are themselves unwilling to serve, yet are aghast at war and count bodies of OTHER people, then go about their daily comforts. Some politicians want us to believe in the illusion that simultaneous “guns and butter” are possible. This is false. The cost is omnidirectional and immeasurable. The “butter” in a no draft situation is, along with other huge things, a serious loss of individual integrity, individual responsibility, and political integrity and responsibility. There was a draft during WW II, and still countless numbers volunteered.

War is not a game. I believe a draft (among other positive things), would better instill and nurture from within the needed sobriety in all of us to see and really feel the horrors of war, even if sometimes necessary, and that real people, military and innocent, on all sides, really die and really are maimed.

I was against the the horrible Vietnam war. I am against the sham of the Iraq war. I am appaled that Wrangle abandoned Hillary, but on balance, I believe Wrangle is fully correct about the draft.

  • justme

  • Peggy Sue

I think Rangel’s suggestion was pretty clear: bring back the draft and you’d have a lot more dissent about stupid wars because the risk would apply to many more families.

Vietnam cost 58,000 lives and 150,000 wounded U.S.soldiers. The Vietnamese lost countless more. We should have learned our lesson. Apparently, we did not. The Iraq war has cost far fewer American lives but the burden has been put on the few rather than the many. What the American public has noticed is the financial and diplomatic costs. But for our soldiers in uniform and their families there is no rest from facing the day-in, day-out personal costs and risks.

Rangel was making a pointed statement rather than a real suggestion because unless we’re threatened on our shores, the vote for a draft will never fly.

As for the ad McCain ran on Obama’s celebrity status vs his lack of experience and/or ideas on energy [or anything else]? Where’s the foul? Obama has made his own problem with the counterpunch and then the stupid, veiled race-baiting. Making it worse [and proving McCain's point], Obama comes out with the “inflate your tires and tune-up you engine” comments.

    Bingo! Energy problems solved.

It’s the sort of advice your grandpop might offer. Do I think he meant that as his major energy suggestion? No, but the timing could not have been worse, only adding to the meme that’s been running–despite all the hoopla, Obama is not ready for prime time.

When you’re opponent is shooting himself in the foot, you step back and let him do it.

We’re watching a meltdown moment. Finally!

  • mom2nomads

Peace Corp volunteers don’t make a salary. They are paid a monthly stipend that covers basic living expenses, allowing them to live like the people in the community they are volunteering in. They live often with no electricity, often with very basic amenities (if any), and work hard to make those communities better.

Where the heck did you get the idea that Peace Corp volunteers get paid 40/hour??

Man, I have a ton of pictures and tomorrow SimoFish will publish the video she took while Hillary was speaking.

Originally it was labeled an event to help pay down her debt but some how it morphed into a unity event. Hell, there were about 10 Pumas that I know for sure but I’m sure there were more. Afterwards we all stood around and told each other our pen names.

She said that she thinks it would help unify the party if her name was put into nomination and that she wants her supporters and delegates to be recognized and heard.

I shook her hand. I hugged her and I told her to sign the petition that she would win and that we had her back.

Vietnam wasn’t a “war” either. It was a police action interfering in a civil war in a soverereign nation. Our justification back then was “the domino theory.” If Vietnam went red, why, all of its neighbors would, too, and that Commie business would spread like an awful virus!

We used WMD as an excuse to interfere in Iraq’s, also a sovereign nation’s, affairs, because we didn’t like that nasty dictator, who was abusive to some elements of his society and allowed his sons to be very brutal as well.

This war isn’t going to end if Obama wins, or if McCain wins. We’re “in it to win it,” and the only thing that’s changed is we’ve changed our definition of “win it.” The goal originally was to spread democracy to the Middle East (Bush wanted to be seen as the George Washington of the Turban Set) but now, our goal has shrunk to making Iraq a place we can base out of, should we need to involve ourselves in even more middle eastern adventures, and also, grab as much oil as we possibly can–our friends in Kurdish Iraq will no doubt help us there, if we do right by them (this time, for a change).

If there’s a draft, though, this war will end–those fat kids at their computers will be emailing their congresspeople non-stop, and may actually even get off their raddled asses and take to the streets; and the politicians who refuse to vote against it will be tossed out on their behinds.

About the only way they’ll be able to continue the game over there is to make it All Blackwater, All The Time…a largely mercenary effort.

And that would get too expensive, unless that Black Gold those guys have is used to pay for that kind of firepower. The Iraqis, at the end of the day, would finally be forced to pay for their own war, and all we’d do is help in the hiring of the meat for the grinder, at Soldier of Fortune wages, and take a nice profit off the oil industry while we’re at it.

The history of the women’s movement for equal rights, and African American empowerment, have always been intertwined. One hand washes another, as it were.

Obama managed to sever the bonds between those two elements with his sexist insults, and I wonder if they’ll ever reunite after he departs the scene. I resent him for doing that, too. Really, really disappointed at how Whoopi has become due to this election. Why can’t Whoopi look beyond race and understand that anyone can be criticized, including Obama, irregardless of one’s race? I thought we have reached a point in race relations where we should and can see beyond race, and allow anyone to be criticized, including Obama, for his flaws and weaknesses as a candidate, instead of viewing each critique of Obama as racist. ENOUGH OF THIS SHIT!
Unless you political geniuses actually SERVED during this period in American history, you don’t know shit. Every last one of you has denigrated not only the courage of the brave troops who went along with the draft and served, you denigrate their patriotism. All of you need to know that if, during that time, you wanted to avoid the draft, that there were myriad ways to get out of it. Guys swallowed balls of tinfoil and got out because of their “Ulcers.” One guy, on the first night I was in Basic training, simply made a pass at another guy in the shower. His discharge cost him a black eye.
And lets not forget Canada, the last bastion of the American coward.
None of you has the slightest fucking idea of what you’re talking about. MEN, ladies, non-emancipated young men who, despite their aversion to war, despite their fear of death, stood up, raised their hands and swore to protect and defend this nation, did what their government said and did it with courage. They were true patriotic citizens who were responsible enough and brave enough to not do what others did. They hated being there and almost all said “FTA all the way,” (F**K the Army) But they did their jobs.
THEY didn’t run to England on a scholarship or hide in the National Guard. They went because they believed they had to in order to still believe in themselves.
If you’ve never seen the beast keep your fucking wisdom yourselves.

    Vince,
    Good points, well stated.
    Thanks

I am no fan of Senator Obama. I think he’s a dangerous, inexperienced man who is trying to gain the White House by use of his “Blackness”. That world tour of his flopped terribly and he gained npthing he’d hoped for from American voters.

Come November he will be a footnote in American election history.

  • Zeke

    Vince,

  • mom2nomads

Yes, I know that Obama has called for people to be more involved in our country by actively participating in programs that help make our country a better place to live, by joining the Foreign Service, by becoming a Peace Corp volunteer, by teachers becoming more involved in mentoring programs, et.

I don’t see where there is a problem with providing some benefits for people who do this, this is already done to a certain extent in the military and the Foreign Service.

But nowhere have I seen a proposal by him that Peace Corp volunteers should be paid an hourly wage.

  • MrMike

I didn’t but a family member did. Two tours in Vietan. He did the second tour because it got him an early out when he rotated home. This was when the 101 jumped out of airplanes and he has a second set of wings from the ARVN.
His comments was why risk getting killed following the orders of some lifer non-com.
Anyway back then the draft worked and the services got many well qualified individuals. Those that were drafted and those that enlisted so they could have a choice of duty.
When people comment on the poor performance of draftees they neglect to mention that Sec.Def. McNamara lowered induction standards to keep the draft numbers up. He was faced with a choice, activate guard units with the resulting uproar, or draft ill equipped inner city your and inbred bumpkins.

  • BABALU123

draft??? well all above 18 will be call to serv!!! If anyone think it will be different it just show, that this person who think like that is Obama supporter. I wonder, what those young Obama fanatics are thinking, are they ready to be soldiers???Are they ready do fallow their corrupted and full of lies IDOL>, maybe they will open their eyes and start paying attention to Obama speaches, and lies!!!
They are supporting someone, who will send them to die for OIL and other corrupted Corporation working deals in Iraq or elsewere!!!
Well YOUNG VOTERS, DONT YOU UNDERSTAND, WHAT OBAMA IS ASKING YOU FOR??? SUPRISE IS AROUND CORNER. 50 THOUSAND YOUNG MAN DIE I VIETNAM, ARE YOU READY TO SACREFISE YOUR LIFE FOR HIS IDEOLOGIES???? IFE YES, THE, YOU ARE SO NAIVE, I WILL NOT FEEL SORRY FOR YOU!!!

  • mom2nomads

And, BTW, we do have to teach our children about citizenship, and give them concrete ways that they can become active and involved. We have to teach them that each of us must take responsibility for our country and be an active participant in our democracy, and in making our country, and the world, better.

Being a good citizen is a learned skill and it is a value that is taught, we can’t just expect children to pick it up by osmosis.

We should have exactly the type of programs that Obama is proposing to encourage young people to go out there and be good citizens.

Exactly! and those unwilling soldiers perfected ways to hurt the military by stealing, fragging officers–and I knew men who would do very hurtful things to themselves, like chop off a big toe or become an alcoholic deliberately, so that they would be excused. The service part of the idea is good but not forced service.

  • BABALU123

it look like communis. Peace-Corps…its communists propaganda!!!

    Zeke–
I am not trying to put down the ones who served in a good spirit, but the one-size-fits-all-and-we’ll-mandate it approach. Now the ones who can serve proudly, in my opinion, also get a better press for it because they stand out so from the ones that were unwilling. And they deserve it.

  • BABALU123

once they (young Obama fanatics especjally) they on their own!!! Now occupation in Iraq(maybe soon of Pakistan-Obamas dream))is very expensive and the whole America is paying a big price. Once drafting starts, the war will be cheep and all Young and stupid will pay for, they will be send to die for same reason as the are now!!! OIL – MONEY- POWER!!!! Government will owe them. Will owe ouer young boys and girls to die for few rich bastards!!!

I will not believe the media, they have never been for hillary, so your right unless i know shes paid her debt and will not be strong armed in helping the messiah, , i have my reserve, we all should be cautious. Have you noticed all the bull today , about Obama will be better for the conuntry , the dnc trying to convince McCain is not a threat , sorry NObama for me, period, Hillary would have to be on her own ticket, as an Independant. I do not trust the DNC to twist her arm to thinking it would be fair for Hillary , since they blame any demise to the polls to the Clintons. This is just a ploy for the DNC to get in the good graces and to take heat off Obama NO thanks NOBAMA , and definietly no Dean Pelosi or Brazile,,,

  • http://mmb silverfox

barack obama is a cheap suit corrupt politician of the most dire kind.

if he wants to think i feel that way because he is a black man and i am a racist, then that’s his prerogative. it still doesn’t change the truth about the fact that he is a cheap suit corrupt politician of the most dire kind. if the least that i have to endure is racist slurs by speaking truth to the obamacoup lying cheating bastards , then i will happily stand solid and smile at their idiocy.

the people around him have put him where he is today. they are criminals in the truest sense of the word. these are the people who own many of the career politicians. all politicians need to be limited in their terms. this would keep the crooks too busy, and of course, the cost would upset them. it would also keep most of the politicians honest, and in it to serve the citizenry.

Sen John McCain is a patriot who has paid dearly for the right to be called an American hero. i believe he truly cares about his country and the Democracy it stands for in the world community. anyone who is still supporting obama simply does not have the truth/info about who he is and why he is here. call it the kool-aid or whatever, but there is something sinister afoot regarding this movie.

if Hillary is not the nominee after the convention, i will support Sen McCain because he is the next best thing to Hillary irregardless of his political affiliation.

    country before party.

    McCain before oblahma….

    let freedom ring.

  • vi

Remeber who some of those Rich bastards are supporting, alot R bundlers for Obama , so lets be cautious when the Democratic DNC is involved, and remember this is Obama , he says one thing and backs the others, so he will vote against the democratic party ,, look at FISA

  • bemused

Come on, everyone knows and loves someone in the service, even when they themselves are not serving! It’s silly to think our military are like a bunch of outsourced mercenaries that don’t have a personal impact on other people in this country, that they are not cared for.

  • BABALU123

I guess, You are lying to Your self. You dont understand what “draft” means. Draft is an order, nor valuntary service, Government will sent those kids a letter , than they must report, if not, they will be send to Martial Court!!! Now young people have a choise, with draft no choice, service or prison, or escape to another country, like douring Vietnam WAR. Remember how many people were burning they draft cards???
Remember demonstration, do You It is coming, and those naive young boys and girls will wake up very soon, and will hate for the rest of their life, for choosing wrong President!!!

  • mom2nomads

The Peace Corp is a government program that provides American citizens with the opportunity to travel to parts of the world that most Americans are not able to go to. While there they do amazing work and help people in those communities to become more self-sufficient, learn skills, and make their communities better. And they leave the Peace Corp knowing that they have done positive things and have made concrete differences in people’s lives.

And, to top it off, it is American diplomacy at its very best because the people who live in those small communities (in, say, a majority Muslim country like Guinea) get to know Americans and see that we are good people.

I’m not sure where you get the idea that any of that is “communist.” It is good for the communities, good for the world, good for the volunteers, and good for our national interest.

  • Zeke

I was there, asshole. What I KNOW, you ignorant shit, is that the VAST majority of those drafted served. They weren’t physical cowards and they didn’t run. They didn’t want to go, didn’t believe in war and still went. A man I grew up with here was a total pacifist. Non-violence was and still is his mantra. He earned the Silver Star in VietNam, receiving wounds while saving his wounded brothers.
The percentage of men who went to Canada out of true moral belief would fit in VW Bus. The rest were and still are physical and moral cowards who, ’til the day they die, will have to live inside their own slimy, useless skins.
Men died. Those worms still live.
F**K them and anyone who supports them

    Indy –

I’m not happy about fighting the war on a cost plus basis with civilians.

Additionally some people in the military are avoiding incarceration for criminal offenses.

Others fighting this war are doing so because they are hopeless and impoverished.

I think that the Rules of Engagement in Afghanistan are unrealistic, demoralizing and likely deadly.

My friends serving support Gen. Petraus for being “In It to Win It”.

Viet Nam was a whole different cluster.

  • MEchelle Hates America!

Actually, Frederick Douglas threw women under the bus a long time ago re: the right to vote.

I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for black men to do the right thing by women.

  • Ai1een

I respectfully DISAGREE with you. I truly do not believe that America is as racist as you and others paint the picture to be. I live in South Carolina – our neighborhoods are a mix of races, we have mixed race couples, mixed race children & no one bats an eye or looks twice. As a matter of fact, in several studies that have been done, the South is more integrated in their neighborhoods than the Northeast and Midwest. The mainstream churches still tend to gravitate to one race, but a few non-denominational have an equitable mix of races. The “racist” smear tactics the Obama campaign has run has done more damage to race relations and has truly set our country back (so much for his “unity” powers). Last fall and spring,(and even now) I wish that the big pollsters would have dared to ask a question that would have put this whole RACE issue in perspective: “If Colin Powell was running for President, would you be able to vote for him?” I think the results of that question if posed to Americans would have shown far greater numbers able to vote for Powell than are willing to vote for Obama and therfore, would have provided a clearer picture of this entire supposed RACISM issue. People against Obama, don’t like Obama because he is, in fact, a power seeking, narcissistic, fraud; always jumping from one position to the next higher postion – plagarizing and stealing others’ work to get himself there.

  • MEchelle Hates America!

    Hope Floats –

Oblowme has always used race to his advantage.

For his elitist education, position and politics.

Oblowme uses race as both sword and shield.

THE GREAT DIVIDER OBLOWME is cutting the U.S. to pieces

with his racist beliefs and charges of racism

much like his Muslim cousin Odinga (who wants to put women back in veils)in Kenya,

who sent his followers out with machetes when he lost an election.

  • FembotsForObama

    Clinton Fan,

I’m in 100% agreement with you! It was the fear of the DRAFT that had most kids my age interested in the first Iraq War. It was a palpable fear for a lot of my guy friends. And, thanks to CNN’s 24/7 coverage we were able to see the airstrikes. We even experienced a sort of 60′s renaissance at Madison, and “hippie chic” came back in style..

At 18, I did everything possible to become informed about politics and national issues and world affairs, and many of my friends did likewise.

But this generation is disengaged. Perhaps it is due to the fact that W told us to go out and buy after 911, I don’t know. But I do know that most of the college kids today, aren’t aware that we are fighting in both Afghanistan and Iraq. And, like I’ve pointed out they have internet access 24/7, so they don’t have the excuse that because it’s not on TV, they don’t know, like some older misinformed adults can claim. I think they just don’t care! They are more concerned with their Ipods and driving their SUV’s and partying. The war is hardly discussed in our campus newspapers, but they sure made it a point to report how coeds are using their loans to buy breast implants. These are strange times indeed.

I also think the reinstituting of the Draft would shed more of a national spotlight on the lack of oversight and missing $8 billion. We need to get the war and its effects on the economy etc back in the discussions at our kitchen tables. It seems that the election is more a distraction than a discussion of these war-time issues. Just ending the war is not going to solve the problems. We also have Iran to be concerned about now. Whereas I’m not so concerned at this point about them having a nuke, I am concerned about what will happen to Iraq if we just book out of there. And then there remains the question of the military contractors, which Obama seems to believe should still have a role.

  • bemused

I thought it was just the use of “uppity” because it was now one of the words owned by AAs, the same way the “n” word and now apparently the “a(rrogance)” word and probably the “b(lack)” word. That is, anyone other than an AA using those words is racist, whatever the context or intent of the communication. Soon there will be special politically correct dialects of English.

  • FembotsForObama

Awesome, thanks for the reminder of that juicy tidbit. Obama has been relishing in his celebrity status. Another thing I can’t stand about him. Especially after his Euro tour where he didnt’ even visit our wounded troops (and he’s a US senator).

I’ve heard from many others that JFK was also a sort of celebrity — but it seems to me that he handled it with much more grace than Obama could hope to have.

  • http://hotair.com/archives/2008/06/02/michelle-obama-dont-trust-bloggers-because-people-lie/ Kelly

I took the survey and I said I No Draft unless necessary. I do not want old people playing puppeteer with the lives of young people to make a point.

  • WildChild

JFK lived in a time when wealth and power was there to serve America. Since then wealth and power have mutated into something that has no more ambition or purpose then to suck America dry.

  • FembotsForObama

He takes no responsibility for his supporters and shows no leadership.

    Yttik,

That really disturbs me. It’s like he is playing Pontious Pilate, if the supporters commit atrocities (i.e., mass riots) he will just wash his hands of it.

That young woman echoed my sentiments exactly. I am terrified of Obama becoming president. And I’m a liberal who lives in an urban multiracial neighborhood, who as much as anyone would like to jump on the Obama bandwagon, but I can’t find any reasons to do so.

Anyways Obama is like a date who is alluring and has a sexy voice saying all the right words, even has some great dance moves, but when you get into bed he you are left less-than-satisfied… wink! wink!

  • jdona

Whoa here. My husband was drafted, my brother in law was drafted, both in Vietnam, my father was of course drafted in WW2, and all three of them served well, served with honor, and not one of them was an “inbred bumpkin”. My husbands buddies trusted him and relied on him, just as he did his buddies, most of whom were drafted. Insults like this do not reflect well on the people here, and I personally find it extremely insulting to insinuate my husband is less patriotic and somehow less dependable because he was drafted at the tender age of 18 years old. Cut the crap.

All these young kids who are under the age 18.Most are 16b and under Obama gets them to blog for him. They canot vote but the more people sign on his site and the more people who blog for him makes it look like he has more. But really alot are under the age 16 years old. They don’t really understand. They really think that it’s simple to be all one.”It’s not”Obama is palying just as Bush did and JFK did.

Well these kids under the age will soon be faceing a war and they will be the ones fighting in the war and get killed.I really belive that Obama wants us to and more gointo war to get rid of most americans.

It’s the way Obama is running around countrys and going to concerns as if they were there for him.A free concerns as well as the one in portland Oregon

I am for Hillary but not when it comes to helping support Obama or vote Obama.I will vote McCain.

This is our will and for the democratic party to take our will and then wants us to fall in line-yell call us names ..no way never will I fall in line.

Where is Obama’s true birth certificate. You would have thought he would have came forward with it by now.He is not wanting us to see whatb is on there. And he is trying to buy time to make another fake one.

    Obama is a hilter!
